Christmas in New Orleans: A Magical Journey
The French Quarter during Christmas time. Royal Street., perhaps the best of all the decorated street in The Quarter. A strange thing is happening to me on the way to Christmas. I’m really missing New Orleans, especially The French Quarter during Christmastime. The city is especially magical during this time of year. Let’s just take Christmas Eve for instance. We start in Lutcher, Louisiana…

Not What You Think
Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta 2006 No. It’s not what you think. I didn’t post yesterday because our modem broke. We ordered one and it arrived in a day, but things were so quiet and peaceful that I didn’t bother installing it until today. If the internet isn’t used for so many things; podcasts, news, music, pictures, business and so on, we might not have installed it yet. This…

Saturday Walk Reflections: Embracing Cold Days
Saturday reflections on a cold day. Saturday story. It’s not that cold yet. Yesterday we had a low of 38 degrees, but a pleasant high of 62 degrees. It wasn’t quite this frosty, but this is last year’s picture. It’s also a partial reflection. Reflections is me. Anyway, we took a five mile walk around the farm. The dogs joined us, although they didn’t exactly walk with us. Instead, the charged…

Fall Fell Yesterday
Southern Fall Excuse the brevity of this post, but we played two less than fulfilling shows this weekend for a total two and a half hours of music and two days of traveling. Something is happening out there in live music world. Fans are not coming out for concerts. It doesn’t matter who. Unless you are Taylor Swift, nothing sells out. In fact, some tours have been cancelled for lack of ticket…

Spring Into Summer
Hot, hotter, hottest. It’s very early in the season for the weather to be this hot. I read that in Las Vegas that was temperature was around 110 degrees when a convicted felon took the stage and told them that he didn’t care about them and he just wanted their vote. He also claimed that there was 20,000 people in a venue that holds 3,000. They were paid to be there. The beat goes on.

After The Longest Night
Christmas in The Quarter. The Winter Solstice occurred two nights ago, but that doesn’t change things. It’s still dark at the wrong times of day. These pictures are more Christmas scenes in New Orleans. Some of them are a little bit sad. See all those teddy bear images. There are four of them. I used to photograph them every season because the decorations changed yearly. Then, one year I…

Thinking, Always Thinking
Maybe I should stop thinking. I’d hoped to force a week of Mardi Gras into an already crowded schedule, but the universe said no. With new COVID infections reaching a million a day and deaths hitting 1,000 a day, I didn’t think being in crowds on the streets with 100,000 of my best friends was a good idea. So, I decided to make my own Mardi Gras using Generative AI. You can see the results,…

Sometimes in Winter
M y mind seems to have settled on winter, which is really a long way off. I suppose I’m thinking about it because in the deep south and gulf coast never seems to have much of what I’d call winter. Luckily, in Virginia, we do. Last winter we had enough snow and wind — a storm — that our road lost power. We didn’t because we have solar panels and battery storage for ten days. Normally, the…

Thunder Road
Drive back. T he road (and the sky). I truly love this photograph. It’s iconic, symbolic and mythical. It was hard to make because I was traveling at about 50 mph. I braced the camera on the dashboard and pressed the button. I made about 20 exposures, this was the best of them. The position of the road and clouds works very well. The symbol and myth is wrapped up in the darkness enveloping…

Sleepy Sunday
Lines and blue. Sunday. It came again. You know what that means. Quietude. Less complaining. More sleeping. More pictures. And, other things.

All The Nights
The layers and the drift. Winners and losers. Who decides? We were talking about that in the musical world which maybe as close to the wonderful world of photography as it can be. Just like converting from film to digital capture changed everything in the photo world, digital recording followed by streaming changed everything in that world. Along comes AI in many forms to disrupt the…

Knowing
Rock lizard. Music is magic, some say. This proves it. Or, maybe making music is a nightmare. I keep experimenting with Generative AI mostly out of self defense especially since an expert, no less than Adobe — those fine developers of Photoshop and Lightroom — said that using their version of AI is the next evolutionary step in photography, making cameras obsolete and no longer needed. I knew…
