I yap so much about the comic and the importance i find in its contents but i hope when i write dirk or jake or rlly any of them it doesnt come off as me dumbing them down😭

I know the core internal mechanisms at which they all operate from otherwise i wouldnt understand why they even do what they do and why they speak how they do since that is so crucial to analysis of their behaviour and Why they were written.

But i mostly write silly scenarios so the deeper messier parts dont get to show much😭 working on deeper things tho rest assured i am locking in🫡🫡🫡

I try to match the tones of how i believe the characters would act continuing off the ending of homestuck. With dirk and jake specifically i try to write them to where they still both kinda dont say everything they need to but they dont have the weight of narrative destiny on their shoulders anymore so they can admit they like spending time together and have actually confessed like normal people and got out those apologies they kept yammering on about in the last half of act 6

I try to reinvoke the ridiculous nature of the one time we really see the real dirk and jake talk (which was actually a dreambubble memory. jake is so gay.) but i try to make it feel how that did, they really do love spending time together and just being weird and cringe and bantering about stupid shit ❤️(the most we see dirk type laugh in the comic)

I feel like the Best Bros part of dirkjake kinda gets lost alot of the time considering THEY NEVER SPEAK DIRECTLY (which is insane that hussie could craft this universe bending gender norm shattering yaoi with no fucking interactions wtf anyway) but there is alot you can gleam from jakes interactions with hal and this one log to tell us how they usually speak

Dirk always veers into making homoerotic comments because.. i dunno he might have feelings for jake or something whos to say. and when jake presses him dirk immediately diverts. I think from being around dave and everything daves realised thats bullshit about masculine standards and heroism that let him have a healthier relationship to masculinity, hearing abt that would loosen dirk up about Actually being affectionate to jake

But hes still somehow trying to no homo his way out of things that are incredibly homo just in a subtler way, not immediately going “Haha, what? I never said that. Anyway.” (Its both out of his fear for what his true identity means about him as a man but also because he doesnt think he deserves to get such affections cough thinks himself an evil)

And jake was always going with the flow. If his friends socially decreed something as okay to talk about then the fucking damn burst open and he couldnt keep it in anymore but they had to Very Clearly Clarify with him about it. So i think dirk going down a more positive road would lead jake there too seeing that if its okay for dirk to be less restrictive with his feelings jake can be too.

The Epilogues has a highly specific premise and was being manned by caliborn and calliope 2.0 cranked to the max in the deranged fanfic behaviour so. Of course it would not be a healthy environment for characters to grow💀 anyone who takes it as full confirmation about how theyd act or become as adults and ignores the fact of its premise Being “Homestuck but Sick and Twisted; The Fanfiction” is kind of stupid its like saying homosuck was in character. Ofc everybodys lives goes to shit because the two running the show dont know how the hell to be good puppeteers 😭

Said it on twitter but you can tell how much a dirk hates himself based on his relationship to a jake. Because tho ult dirk wouldnt ever admit it jake is dirks anchor of self worth just as dirk is jakes. When they show compassion and kindness to one another its a step closer to self acceptance because Jake is quite frankly a living embodiment of EVERYTHING that is “wrong” (queer, cringe, sincere, feminine) about Dirk to himself in his saviour complex surrounding manhood. (See Everything caliborn says about jake) jakes always waiting for dirk. If dirk were to step down and admit his own humanity itd mean hed have to accept he is capable of growing and isnt inherently evil, and jake would be ready to embrace that about himself too

Anyway all that to say. Even in my simple silly writing i at least do try to retain dirk and jakes strange emotional dodging olympics but also its just on a smaller level since theyve inching their way to fully internalising that Its Okay to be Cringe and Gay Together❤️ because the World isnt Ending anymore. Its in the little things they dont say because haha im the one who makes them say words.

Establishing stuff right now for it:

Evbo (the Villain) takes the place of Clown but, to add some flavour to it, he was originally the Parkour Champion and was well loved by the people before he ended up getting betrayed and locked up in the lava prison by Seawatt. Void (EmF) ended up finding out what Seawatt did when he interrogated him on Evbo’s whereabouts and felt a overwhelming sense of revulsion at the realisation of what his lover (toxic Yaoi x2) did to his best friend, though Seawatt tries to justify his actions that he did it for them since now Void can be the champion instead of Evbo. Evbo eventually grew bitter and resentful from the betrayal by Seawatt, as well as seeing it as a betrayal from his people that he looked after, that he promised Void when he returns that he would destroy it and leave it all in ashes. He gets commonly refer to as ‘Hero’ by everyone and when it’s revealed that he used to be the old parkour champion that’s what everyone calls him except Void, even Seawatt forget Evbo’s name after so long.

Seawatt takes on the takes the place of the Evil Champion and pretty much has done his best to erase the Evbo’s name from the records of Parkour Civilisation and the Leather level from complete existence as well (similar to how the chain level was erased from everyone’s memory in Parkour Civilisation 2), utterly paranoid on the potential of Evbo escaping from there…he pretty much has a sock puppet Champion that wears decoy diamond boots (similar to his own in the end) that he uses to ensure that people are following his rules and to keep them in line from behind the scenes. Exceedingly paranoid, desperate and very dangerous to keep what he did underwraps…as well as missing Void a lot as well…still terrible at Parkour as well lmao

Void takes on the place of the old man (and Seawatt as well lol) where he’s trying to guide the Holt (the old man) and Clown (who kinda takes the place of both Evbo and EMF as well mostly EmF for Holt but he’s also Evbo’s role here) to find the Leather level and ferry back information to Evbo on what’s going on with them. Pretty much a tired, regretful man that desperately wants to make things right and help his friend with what happened to him since he doesn’t deserve it. He’s a mentor and guide to Holt and Clown and ensures that they are safe to the best of his abilities while leaving little breadcrumbs of a place that shouldn’t, but does, exist and the people from it…

Holt (the old man) mostly takes the place of Evbo and is the person that Void decides to use in order to get Evbo out of his prison with Clown being his longtime friend in the Chain Level. Pretty much a ace in parkour and exceedingly skilled at making jumps the more he got used to it in the end. Clown was his longtime neighbour before the other decided to move up in parkour and take on the challenge of climbing the tower while Holt decided to hold back onto it until a recent decree by the champion made him want to climb up the tower to face him.

Clown takes the place of EMF (and technically evbo as well UwU) but in the au holt and clown both hailed from the chain level before clown decided he wanted to rank up since he was tired of how little skill the parkour on the chain level took and wanted to prove himself moreso in the upper levels. That’s not the only reason to why he wants to rank up as well…he ended up finding a strange book that talked about the old parkour champion…something that he could barely read but the desire to know consuming him that he decided to track up to try and find out more about them.

That’s pretty much the roles that they all play here in this au for the time being…Evbo the hero turned villain that’s manipulating Clown and Holt in the background to get him out, Void who wants to help his friend out and then Seawatt who’s desperate for recognition but wants to hide himself from the light…then we have Holt who wants to do the right thing and help people…Clown who wants to prove himself to someone-anyone-and be seen by them.

I’ll be posting more on this at a later date but I shall leave you with some particular design quirks they would all have!

Evbo has a more kingly/princely look to him with a flowing green cloak, no headband (unfortunately) with his hair flowing (shoulder length hair for this one), green stripped shirt, black pants and diamond shoes (something that resembles sneakers in the end that contrasts his entire look). He’s kinda meant to contrast Clown’s look in PkCiv with him looking more like a Prince/king while clown is a jester.

Seawatt keeps the same design in all honesty except his diamond boots are meant are duller in colour (a big indicator that they’re fake diamond boots) and look like sandals with slight, pale green cracks in them. His hair is longer and messier as well with dark circles under his eyes…as well as gold ring on his finger.

Void has a dark purple wrapped over his shoulders, that goes below the knees, with a golden rope tied around the waist, a golden headband and golden ankle boots. His skin also looks a black vortex of stars and dying supernovas with a red spattering of stars around his neck and chest…a golden ring is on his finger as well.

Holt is pretty basic with a teal shirt, blue pants, dark brown hair and beard, silver arm band with a spidery design and diamond sandals (the ones that cover the back and front of the foot). He also has a red jumper wrapped around his waist with bits of black stripes on it.

Clown does wear his typical outfit with the addition of a dark teal jacket being worn, fingerless gloves, his hat is more softer looking (not pointed like devil horns but more like a rams horns kinda??) with silver bells on it, his mask is a plain white mask with eye slits and a black smile on it (a red heart under the right eye with a black diamond on the bottom left corner of the lip to resemble a beauty mark) and his diamond boots resemble laced up riding boots that goes below his knees.

Finally cleaned this up so here’s my DnDads ultimate ship opinions list. I was waiting until after s2 ended to clean this up in case I had any final opinion changes with the last few episodes. Please don’t bash me for any of these. The DnDads fandom is generally very nice but shipping discourse is something that can get heated no matter the fandom.

Dads

Henry Darryl: very neutral. I understand the ship I just never fully got on the boat

Henry Glenn: absolutely fucking feral about them do not get me started on Glennry

Darryl Glenn: feral in a different way that I don’t know how to describe other than toxic yaoi in the way that they’re damaged but refuse to talk about it so they kiss about it instead

Loveeeeeeee polydads but only as Henry/Glenn/Darryl. Not really a Ron shipper I love him and Samantha too much. Ron and Glenn’s friendship is very important to me though

In terms of Jodie, I don’t really ship him with any of the main dads, ESPECIALLY not Glenn. Even if Jimmy didn’t play Jodie I’d still never ship them. Wish Scamster was real and not completely a scam because they’re literally a crackship become real except it was never a crackship before canon. It’s surprising to me that they weren’t really shipped beforehand

Henry Mercedes: THE T4T OF ALL TIME BABEYYYYY. Absolutely iconic couple, fate was in their favor with how they met they were destined for each other

Darryl Carol: After hearing how Darryl talked about his family in Heaven, I was actually really happy they ended up not getting divorced. They clearly had a rough patch as seen in s1, but they genuinely love each other and I love how devoted to her Darryl is. The little finger puppet he made of her in the time out zone… :,)

Glenn Morgan: GLORGAN!!!!!!!!! Oh my god these two tear me apart. I am feral for Glorgan angst there’s too much to work with. More people need to start calling them Glorgan instead of Morglenn please please please please pretty please indulge me in my silly ship name

Terry Veronica: I think the reveal that Terry is infertile is a nice touch to their relationship. It sounds weird to say and I feel like I might word this all weirdly. Him being unable to have bio kids but finding love in someone who wants to raise a kid with him anyways. Veronica finding new love again after a supposedly abusive relationship. Both of those combined is something I really love.

Grant Marco: Canon gays ftw. The Titanic episode was so generous in letting us get to see their dynamic. Obviously Grant still has a long way to go in finding self love but I’m so happy he found someone who can support him and loves him back like this.

As I mentioned in your previous ask, it's kind of a toxic yaoi dynamic.

Initially, they used to be close. $oviet, despite not agreeing with $am's ideals or ways, genuinely found him charming. And he was incredibly kind and loving to $ov's kids. A relationship formed between the two.

But, $am started to get sick. Radiation sickness, to be exact. His nuclear power stores, nuclear weapon stores, and excessive nuclear testing of all sorts of shit (also it was uranium glass and Fiestaware GALORE. Radioactive shit was being sold like hotcakes), just led to him getting really, really sick.

Now, in the typical $wap AU, this just makes $am too weak to stomp out any sort of rebellion and the states rise up and collapse the UCSA, thus killing him. He'd come to terms with this, at that point, and didn't fight it. He knew he needed to go.

In $ovime, though, it results in a brain tumor. One that fundementally changes $am's entire outlook on life and completely reverses any progress he may have made with $oviet in terms of becoming a better person. Instead, he grew obsessive and possessive, and gained a nightmarish fear of death. In his mind, he was essentially god and should have anything he wanted. And that included people.

Because of this sudden shift in personality, $oviet started to grow distant and tried to pull himself away. Which was a bad move, because now $am had the motivation to force $oviet to stay. He wasn't going to lose the one man that kept his attention.

$am's takeover was more aggressive. Though still calculated. He managed to corner $oviet into a "treaty" that gave $am all of the control. Resulting in $ov becoming a puppet state, and a guinea pig for $am's cybernetics.

ok my feelings on Minecraft movie is like...

it could have been like the lego movie. it should have been like the lego movie. bc it's the same basic thing: blocks being used to express individual creativity. lego movie takes a boring average unimaginative, but life loving guy and makes him use the premise of the basic thing, his individual creativity, to solve the conflict.

now, granted, minecraft is limited in creative solutions for man vs. man conflicts beyond combat. the world of minecraft is essentially the same as children's wooden blocks; there's no inventions like the wheel, sail, aviation, so using minecraft universe rules to solve problems is tricky. minecraft is mostly ppl building structures and resource farming. children yearning for the mines. not really a lot you can do for an action packed adventure.

so. jack black going "you're stifling the Boy Lead's Creativity," is NOTHING. especially when Boy Lead does fuck all with his creativity while he's been isekai'd. it's a nothing problem.

it could have been a FANTASTIC theme to actually do something with — but it goes nowhere! absolutely nowhere! we don't see anyone actually Do Any Minecraft Building in the minecraft world.

additionally. the girl power??? we had Girl Lead and Woman Lead go "oh no how do we solve this?" get a Girl Power Empowerment Music Fight AND THEN all the fucking development of their characters is offscreen. They're the only characters that build anything and it's offscreen. Everything.

ADDITIONALLY. I LOVE JENNIFER COOLIDGE. adore that woman. if i could muster the brain cells necessary for idolizing people, she'd be my idol probably. and so i am so so so sad her scene with the villager makes no fucking narrative sense. it does fuck all. very unnecessary to the narrative??? shoehorned in there. haha funny villager wanders through a portal and gets injured hahaha funny. AND? comic relief needs to be tied to the main plot! can't be some stupid omake moment tacked on like a post-it note that's lost it's glue and literally had to be hammered in!!! like when the villager wanders through the portal you're like "oh shit! it's gonna cause problems on earth! they're gonna want to invade earth!" but. no. it's nothing. i hate it.

like, this movie would have been better animated with heart. like 2d The Pagemaster, or hell, puppets like The Labyrinth or The Muppets. We could easily suspend our disbelief watching the cartoony designs of Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Space Jam, the attempt to design the Minecraft mobs "hyper realistic" was a disservice.
