I see what you mean with the switching around for the least canon version now— it makes a lot more sense!!! Johnny and Dally’s relationship will never change with the personalities of their characters I fear. It’s just the way their characters are so it makes sense they stay like that. I feel like if soda were to be 18 by the time that the story starts (around around October/november), that would just leave a few more months left— that’d leave a whole year. And I feel like soda doesn’t have the passion for school like Darry or Pony would— so I feel like it still makes sense for him to drop out for me but I see your point.

Don’t have much to add onto the non canon part— it all seems pretty solid to me! I like ur ideas a lot :)

Pony’s job — he wouldn’t have gone to college, but he wouldn’t have been a roofer like Darry, he’s a lanky and tall kid, and really only has strong legs from his years of track. I’m not even sure why but I feel strongly that Ponyboy would be like a project manager on some project or some shit— in his interviews he tells them how he pays for his own house and takes care of his two brothers and can manage 4+ teenage boys just fine & with the added in sob story of his parents. So I feel he’d be a fine project manager.

As for a conflict, are we thinking a killing a kid and then two people dying type level conflict (obviously not the exact plot of the book but something of the same impact) or just something like their tensions start rising so much that it becomes unbearable type conflict?

I feel like If you want something not as impactful and big it could be soc’s pressure and influence digs in so much into Darry that he stops coming home entirely, and when he does come back after like a day after crashing at a friends house he’s greeted by two pissed brothers (you can decide if soda’s that pissed or not..) and Ponyboy’s not pissed but more like distraught and sad that he just screams at Darrel but not like an angry scream but a crying scream, and Darrel, because he’s a 14 year old and not a maturer 20 year old screams “I fucking hate you, we’d be just fine without you if mom and dad were still here!” Or some shit—

‘But Vincent!! darry would never say that!!’ The Darry YOU know.. this is a 14 year old kid with the influence of rich mean snobs with ungrateful parents who always get everything they want.. maybe he wouldn’t have if their parents were still alive but they’re not and Darry has so much pent up anger for the way he lives and what happened.

Pony is just left there stunned and soda tries to comfort him saying “he didn’t mean that, Pone, I’m sure— right Darrel?”

Darrel just stares at him, a straight face and crossed arms with tears silently flowing down his cheeks.

Pony tells him to get out of the house for a couple hours— but hours turn to days or even a week before he comes back home

Has anyone done a Curtis brothers role reversal where Ponboy is the eldest and Darry is the youngest? Because I think that would be such an interesting dynamic to explore.

How differently does Ponyboy deal with the stress of being responsible for his siblings following their parent's death? What would his relationship with Soda and Darry look like?

How would a Darry who wasn't burdened with the responsibility of caring for his siblings react to the loss of his parents? What sort of friends would he surround himself with? What relationship would he have with Pony and Soda?

I feel like this has a lot of potential, especially if you play into the fact that Darry had Soc friends when he was in high school so it's highly likely he would also have those friends in this AU. If he and Pony argue like they do in canon, would Darry start to pull away from his brothers and the gang, to act more like Soc? What sort of issues would that cause within the gang?

I will make no excuses. This is the biggest example of self indulgent art ive done since my birthday last year. I have no fucking clue what au this is. I jsut wanted to draw Sabo as a sheep, Ace as slutty and greasy as i could with him still being hot in my eyes, and luffy with adorable little bear ears. Also that shading on luffy’s pic was really fun to make.

I had a physical reaction to drawing the little animals. Theyre. Everything. To me.

Why luffy is bear- bears are so food motivated i love them.

Why sabo is sheep- rebelling against fate’s design, breaking from herd mentality, etc etc

Why ace is coyote- it’s really funny how people keep thinking theyre cats or dogs and take them in but theyre just feral creatures. Very similar to Ace me thinks.

I wanted to make luffy and ace typical predators of sheep. Something something them born to destroy the system of all that has ever been (harking back to that herd mentality) something something also breaking that promise too to be brothers with someone from that system

Like, listen listen listen, the main reason our boy grew his hair long at all is because his father promised it to the river-god Spercheus upon his safe return home. Please. Peleus promised to sacrifice his son's beautiful hair in exchange for his beautiful son's homecoming. And Achilles, fucking Achilles (beloved/beloathed), cuts it all off to give to Patroclus on his final journey, because he knows, he knows, the river-god won't fulfill his father's request. Because Achilles won't let him. Because in that moment, Achilles already knows he won't be coming home.
