Rags to Riches Challenge (Revised) - Sims 3

Hey guys! A while ago, I told myself that I wouldn’t attempt to do another challenge until I completed the Sweet & Sour Legacy Challenge, but I lied. As of lately, I have been in the mood to do the Sims 3 Rags to Riches Challenge, but I noticed that it was a lil’ outdated. Sooo, I decided to add and change some of the rules to the Rags to Riches Challenge because I wanted to enhance and toughen the gameplay.

S T O R Y L I N E:

You’ll start with a blank slate—a single Sim with zero Simoleons. Your Sim has been dealt a rough hand in life and is now starting from the absolute bottom of society. They have nothing, but a will to survive and succeed. Will your Sim rise to the challenge? Or, will the weight of their past keep them from reaching the heights they dream of?

The choice is yours—but one thing is certain: success will come at a cost.

T H E U L T I M A T E G O A L:

In this challenge, you struggle your way from homelessness to a rich life! The goal of this challenge is to earn §100,000 in household funds, and fulfill your Sims Lifetime Wish.

R U L E S:

Create a Sim or select a Sim from a household. The Sim can be female or male, but they must be a Young Adult. 

Style your Sim in a worn-out look to reflect a more rugged, carefree style.

Give your Sim the traits of your own choice, but you need to give them the ‘Living in the Lap of Luxury’ Lifetime Wish.

Have your Sim move into an EMPTY LOT of any size, and then build/upgrade your Sims house as you progress in earning Simoleons (Remember: your Sim has to live on the same lot the entire time, they cannot move until their Lifetime Wish is completed).

Feeling extreme? You are not allowed to buy a bed, toilet, shower, and a fridge until you have enough Simoleons to build a house. (OPTIONAL)

Change the household funds to §0. (Open the cheat window (CTRL, Shift, C), and type in "familyfunds ________ 0". Replace the lines with the last name of your Sim). 

Visit friends'/partner houses or community lots for your Sims needs, if needed.

Relationships and marriages are allowed, but your Sims partner or spouse must be unemployed. And if they move in, deduct ALL of the Simoleons that your partner or spouse brings in.

Lifetime points can be used, but you cannot use inheritance or the Dusty Old Lamp.

No public transportation (ex: taxis and subways).

No stealing objects.

No engaging in real estate or growing money trees.

No purchasing any lottery tickets or traveling to the future to cheat the lottery.

Once your Sim has earned at least §10,000 in household funds, they are allowed to travel to other worlds.

Do NOT get a part-time/full-time job or profession. It will defeat the purpose of the challenge.

Do NOT use any money cheat codes (ex: motherload, kaching, or rosebud).

Zoro Edition!

A= Aftercare (what they’re like after the act)

Zoro is sleepy after sex. So he will do quick clean ups, maybe a few wipe downs of your body and maybe some light kisses and cuddles before he is out like a light.

B= Body part (favorite body part their own or their lovers)

His favorite part of himself is his arms and chest- It shows off his hard work and dedication to his craft, even the scars on his chest he sports with pride.

For you he loves your ass and thighs. It's his pillow of choice and his favorite spot for his hand to be.

C= Cum (anything that has to do with it)

Zoro likes to cum on tour skin. Enjoying the sight of you having 'pearls' either on your face, back or belly.

D= Dirty secret (Pretty self explanatory)

He wants to have sex in Sanji's kitchen and get caught.. he will never voice it but you and his Quickies seem to be getting closer and closer to the kitchen-

E= Experience (do they know what they’re doing)

Zoro will lie and say he is experienced but surprisingly has only had a handful of partners in the past. Being that he never cared for people much and would occasionally have sex just to test to see if he liked it.

F= Favorite position

Honestly he doesn't have a favorite but he does enjoy fucking you against a wall- So missionary or any position were he can hold you in his arms.

G= Goofy (how serious are they)

Zoro is fairly serious in bed but can crack a smile or gave moments of his composure breaking, especially if you are a particularly playful or Goofy person.

H= Hair (grooming habits)

Don't expect any grand grooming habits. It's a God damn jungle down there. Only if he's pressed will he do a light trim up bit otherwise I hope you're ready to be a Jungle explorer!

I= Intimacy (in the moment romantic or rough/dirty)

He is more rough and dirty when it comes to sex. He can have romantic moments but his natural roughness bleeds through during sex-

J= Jack off (do they masturbate and how often)

Zoro does not masterbate often if at all. He truthfully would rather do other things then just masterbate be it training, drinking or sleeping with you.

K= Kink (kinks what they like possibly unusual)

A Kink he Secretly has is being caught doing the deed- He loves risky sex and has a secret thing of wanting to be caught.

L= Location (where they like to get it on)

Anywhere- this man will absolutely bend you over in any location he can. No surface is safe and will claim you on any part of that ship.

M= Motivation (things that makes them tick/turn ons)

Zoro finds you handling his swords or wearing tradional clothes from his region a massive turn on.

If you were to wear a Yukata or heaven forbid you wear one of his outfits. He's fucking you against the nearest surface.

N= No (turnoffs or absolutely won’t do)

Ironically knife play he doesn't like the idea of using weapons on his S/O. Or seeing them bleed at all.

O= Oral (receiving or giving and how skillful they are)

He is more incline to receive then he is to give. Enjoying feeling his partner giving him Oral far too much and can get lost in it.

P= Pace (how fast they are and how long they last in bed)

Zoro has quite a fast pace, while he last a long time his hips will always keep a fast pace against his partner. They are in for a wild ride

Q= Quickie (do they prefer fast and hard)

This man quite liked Quickies- Be it in the broom closet, in the hall or even in the storage room of the Ship.

R= Risk (do they like to try new things)

Zoro surprisingly is open to trying just about anything. While he does has things he's not interested in he will try stuff that his partner thinks is interested.

S= Stamina (how many times they can go and how long each round lasts)

Zoro trains quite a lot so his stamina is quite high. He can last for on average 30 minute round and up to 3-4 rounds. Which is far far longer then a normal person should be able to.

T= Toys (are they game for using sex toys on themselves or lovers)

Zoro hasn't thought much on toys- But if he discovers his partner has them will have no issue using them in the bedroom.

U= Unfair (how do they tease or do they enjoy suspense themselves)

Zoro is surprisingly fair- Not the biggest Fan of teasing or having the upper hand all the time.

V= Volume (are they loud, what sounds, and do they talk)

Zoro isn't very loud, more of making a serious of deep grunts and some growls. He will mutter or hiss out some words of pleasure as he fucks you.

W= Wild card (random sincannon of any sort)

Drinking games mixed with sex is his favorite thing. Like strip poker with shots included is the fastest way to get him riled up and excited.

X= X-ray (what’s down below in dem pants)

Girthy- Very Girthy. His length is 7in when hard, a rich tan with thick blue vains running up the sides.

Y= Yearning (sexdrive level)

Zoro has a fairly strong sex drive. However is never one to instigate sex unless his partner show interest.

- I  wouldnt say strict but he defiantly has his rules. He gives the “quit it” looks and he will verbally tell you to stop if he needs to

- He mostly dresses up his little one in comfy clothes such as hoodies and comfortable pants but he tries to dress u the way you like when he figures out your style 

D = Defense (Are they protective caregivers? Maybe overprotective even?) 

- He is protective but only when he needs to be. Such as around certin people or places

- He expresses his love by acts of service and words of affrimation  

F = First (How was their first experience as the little's caregiver?) 

- It was sweet, his little one started regressing in the lobby so he turned on cartoons on and asked them questions about there show since they love it and then later the little fell asleep with their head on husk shoulder 

G = Guide (Would they be a good teacher to their little? What would they teach them?) 

- Yes he is! He would teach his little on how to stand up for themselves and that its ok to make mistakes as long as we fix or learn from them  

H = Health (How do they make sure their little is healthy?) 

- He makes good lunches, helps brush there teeth, gets them water to drink, etc  

I = Intuitive (Can the caregiver feel when their little is regressing?) 

- Yea he is pretty good at knowing when his little one is regressed. He starts noting the little signs in his head so he knows when to go into his caregiver headspace  

J = Jealous (Are they the jealous caregiver type?) 

- Nah i dont think he is really that jealous but i do think he can get clingy at times  

K= Kiss (Are they used to kiss their little? Where?)

- He is gently for sure, however sometimes he will accidently yell. But he will talk to his little first and make them eat more veggies and early bedtime for his little  

S = Seasons (What are their favorite season to play with their little and why?) 

- He loves the winter and fall because he loves to stay in with his little one and do crafts with them  

T = Toys (Are they used to spoil their little with toys? Or they'd rather play with their little most of the time without toys?) 

- A good mixture of both, he loves playing pretend however he will also set up a reward chart for you so that when you be good for a certin amount of time you can get rewards such as new toys

U = Useful (Is there anything they learned before becoming a caregiver that is *really* useful while caring for their little?) 

- Uhh- he knows more simple games such as go fish and peak a boo ( he thinks its cute when the two of you play peak a boo) 

V = Vulnerable (Would they show vulnerability around their little?) 

- Somewhat? He mostly tries to act strong around you espically when you are regressed  

W = Weep (What is their reaction when their little starts crying?) 

- His ears go back a little with a small amount of worry. He will pick you up and try to rock you asking you whats wrong as he rubs your back 

X = Xtra (Write the headcanon of your choice) 

- ( i headcannon that angel is a flip/big brother) so one day you and angel had a play date while husk watched you to from the counter. You ended up getting sad cause you felt icky but big brother angel was there to save the day! Husk was happy and relived to find angel comforting you, he adores moments like those  

Y = Yummy (Do they know how to cook? Do they enjoy cooking for their little?) 

- Yes, he loves and he actually knows how to cook, he will try and find fun ways to get you to eat your veggies as well! 

Z = Zzz (What about naptime and bedtime?) 

- He loves bedtime especially in the winter with soft led lights (if you want them) when its cold because he can hold you close with blankets and soft lullabies while the two of you sleep.

random thoughts i have while playing isat pt. 7

[woe, spoilers be upon ye!]

opened the game and immediately went "im gonna make odile question my sanity!!!" but of course when i enter the house Siffrin decides to turn the scripted tutorial enemy into bean paste and ruins the run--

anyways. this panel will haunt me

i. i dont even know how but. I beat the king without him ever getting a chance to make his first attack. i just kept spamming slow and two jackpots later he was dead. i didn't even knoiw that was possible.

after a bit of fucking around i decided that i was gonna move on to act 5 and promptly burst into tears

update: i accidentally posted this too early dont look at me

sat and cried through the entirety of the party's interactions in act 5

even the king took one look at this dude and was like "are you good man like, you can take a rest before we do this you're literally about to topple over"

that post where odile says the oven copypasta during the mal du pays scene has permanently altered my brain and i literally laughed out loud when this line appeared

i haven't talked about it before but. a while ago i made a concept for a game based off the backrooms and omori, and odile talking about someone who is forgotten may not exist is the basis for the entire game's plot, it makes me want to go back and flesh it out a bit more!!!

i am deadset on the idea of making an edit with mirabelle's reflection craft but it's an uno reverse card

simultaneously in my brain: an edit where the sound mirabelle's reflection craft makes is the metal pipe meme

i am. such a fucking sucker for sickfics. i cannot get enough of them. act 5 has enough sickfic tropes to make a million spinoff fics on its own, it brings me life and i love it dearly

i will continue playing to get some of the different loop endings and i totally plan on doing two hats in the future!!! so im not quite done with this game yet i just got impatient in act 4 and i needed the Emotional Catharsis of Act 5

Wow you guys really seemed to like the steampunk AU, that post got way more attention than I was expecting, so here's some more information and stuff:

-The world is still like a videogame that they got trapped in but now it’s a steampunk adventure-y type game with circus elements 

-The adventures are probably a bit different

-They’re probably more like, fantasy adventure video game style things with like puzzles and fighting? Idk I'm not a big gamer I've never actually played any steampunk video games. What are those like?

-Instead of circus tent, there is a big wagon thingy that I'll draw eventually

-there's still not much of a story and I'm not sure If there'll ever be

-I'd also kinda want to make some mini comics for this au but I suck at coming up with ideas :/

Pomni:  

-She likes to craft things

-friends with Gangle and Ragatha

-still very anxious but less anxious then normal Pomni?

-has a very logical mind and is good at puzzling things together but also doesn’t do well under pressure and typically panics in stressful moments where these skills might be useful

-She can play the flute because flutes are good, they are the best instrument. (I am totally not biased just because I play the flute in marching band)

-My headcanon for regular Pomni is that she’s less anxious than she initially is in the pilot after getting used to things, like, beyond the anxiety, her actual personality is very cheery and friendly, also very logical, because idk it just fits her somehow? So yea, that headcanon also applies to this au 

-but of course she is still an absolute nervous wreck because yes

-How else is she supposed to react in this situation

-also look at those fingerless gloves I want those

-the gears in her eyes turn when she is thinking

Gangle:

-Also likes crafting things

-friends with Pomni, Zooble, and Kinger

-she often borrows  sewing needles from Ragatha to sew her comedy mask back together when it’s torn, and also constantly tries to craft new ones

-She really likes her boots

-I don’t blame her those are some nice boots

-Ok wait a minute what if that little wing bow thingy on her head is actually a pen/quill that she can use to write stuff?

Caine:

-He can control the time of day with the clock that’s on his hat

-It’s a lot harder for him to heal injuries in this world, he can’t just instantly fix anything anymore it requires a bit more effort

-ok but what if he had a collection of mechanical insects? Omg designing mechanical insects would be so fun-

-They are a robot now

- Zoob’s in denial about their feelings and still pretends not to care because they’ve had such a “I don’t give a shit about anything” attitude that suddenly developing feelings for someone has caught them off guard cause they suddenly are giving a shit about something and they don’t know how to handle it, But if Jax does anything to Gangle they will rush in to protect her in a heartbeat and just try to play it off as it just being because they don’t like Jax BUT WE ALL KNOW THE TRUTH ZOOBLE JUST CONFESS ALREADY-

-I’m so excited to design mechanical centipedes I love bugs so much guys you have no idea I finally have an excuse to draw insects and maybe people will actually care because it’s fandom related now

-He does not like getting wet. At all. (this is also just a general headcanon for him but especially in this au)

Ragatha:

-the seams of her fabric are prone to tearing so she always carries a needle and thread to sew herself back together. she's good at sewing

-My main headcannon for normal Ragatha is that her button eye is a parallel to an eye injury she had in real life before joining the circus, but in this AU she probably acquired the injury in this universe.

-she’s good at using tools and weapons but not in like, a mechanic sorta way like Zooble but in a defense sorta way

-like, she’s very kind and caring but also sorta tough and even though her body is good at falling apart, she knows how to use strategy to fight and um wait what would they even be fighting-

-idk I haven’t thought about that yet

-Gloinks?????

-do those exist in this au???

-wait it’s my au why am I asking this

-overall she is very, “tries to help everyone else and seems very tough on the outside but is prone to falling apart both physically and mentally but just gets good at quickly patching it up and ignoring it until it become too much for her to bear”

Profession: She has a summer job working with the hippo riders, although that doesn't pay as well as adventuring, so she's looking forward to Dawntrail and doing more than delivery runs.

P H Y S I C A L     A S P E C T S

Hair: maroon and light pink

Eyes: maroon and light pink

Skin: brown

Tattoos/scars: I headcanon the single choice of tattoos per face for roes are meaningful somehow - I chose coming of age, getting her Adventurer Name, and leaving home, so those were fresh porple swoops over her cheekbones in ARR :D I've only known her as long as she's been Frog and looked like this.

The scar on her nose is from being underhand punted like a rugby ball by an older brother back when she was an orb shaped child. Since adventuring the regular healing has stopped her getting too scarred up from any misadventures.

F A M I L Y

Parents: Notable members of their remote mountain community, maintaining an important set of Arcanima wards around an aetherically dangerous geological fault. Of course, they're good at their jobs so this wasn't very scary as an upbringing. They're a lovely couple and make a hell of a bowl of soup. All else I know about them is they're very supportive and Frog writes to them regularly.

Siblings: like six rowdy older brothers. She was very spoiled by this squad of bodyguards tbh. (Ignore the previous comment about one of them maiming her, they DO love her even if they saw her as a cannonball under other circumstances.) A couple of them left to be mercenaries, uncertain if for Garlemald - they don't write home as thoroughly.

Grandparents: Probably, tbh. We're getting out of my limited perception of Hellguard culture and history but I think I can say the remoteness of their village is an excuse for nothing too terrible to have happened to any of them :P

In-laws and other: She was sort of starting to think of Edmont as a potential in-law and he began acting like it after Events so she's acquired some without marrying. He DID also adopt Aymeric informally, so now she's courting him it's coming back around!

Pets: Multiple, even not counting animal sanctuary beasties. Some she drops by to visit where they're being looked after once she'd raised them or sheltered them for a while (the baby hippo was donated to the hippo riders thankfully before he got too large and hungry for example). Others live at the free company house getting spoiled by the staff. The free company is named after the baby tapir who is the best and cutest. :)

S K I L L S

Abilities: In character, she has yet to find something she isn't good at after a couple of false starts. (ooc is much more of a mess depending on my ability) As an all-jobs all-crafts all-gatherers weirdo she's genuinely alarming to contemplate.

Hobbies: crafting/gathering/fishing is more of a wind down respite than a career calling for her. Canonically she's finished the fishing log... ooc I haven't by a long shot :P She also loves visiting bars and pubs across the world that she's visited to drop in on old friends, or go on foodie tours of places she's liberated. They stole G'raha being a foodie traveller in the dawntrail trailer from her actually.

Kinda always wanted to do a in character review of all the drinking establishments in game.

T R A I T S

Most positive trait: determination and everything that went into being strong enough to do the end walk, which did feel like a culmination of all the positive things they ascribe to the WoL. Since she's living the life of box art Meteor with no plot deviations or alterations except what I can put into the downtime and spaces between cutscenes, I can't argue with times when they REALLY show the admirable heart of the WoL.

Most negative trait: She's not going to say no, so if you need a favour just stand near where she wanders by routinely and look forlorn and you WILL get helped to within an inch of your life.

B A C K G R O U N D —

- Bernie grew up the daughter of two first-generation Korean immigrants. Her and her younger sister were treated under the harsh boots of two loving parents who both feared and adored America, so curfews were strict and screen time was non-existent. Bernie was always good with the rules imposed in her household, but her sister, Carol, was not. - Carol and Bernie's relationship seesawed back and forth depending on how harsh their parents were being. Most of the time, they weren't on good terms. The four year gap between them kept them at odds, and even after Bernie left for college, the divide between the sisters stayed. - The only escape Bernie ever had from her home - the only place she could be completely alone - was in her writing. Poetry mostly, though also short stories and, though they made her blush to handwrite, romances. Her passion (and talent) for her craft was clear from a young age; her teachers encouraged her, even if her parents didn't, and preferred she follow a more lucrative career path like being a doctor, or... being a doctor. - Bernie applied to as many colleges as she could, as far away as she found, with as little contact with her family as possible. While she promised she'd pursue a degree her parents would be proud of her for, the first thing Bernie did was declare herself undeclared and the second thing she did was fill her schedule with classes she thought were more interesting than biology or anatomy. - The third thing she did was fall in love.

- Kilroy Wray was charm with legs. He captured Bernie's heart immediately with feats of romance like flowers delivered to her dorm room and improv'd songs in the cafeteria. He was like a character from a rom-com come to life and wouldn't you know it, he loved her, of all people. Plain Bernadette Cho was the apple of a man's eye. That's what she always wanted, right? What she always should have wanted? - Three years of school flew by, and the summer before their senior year, Kilroy pitched marriage. It felt like a simple choice: her parents would hate it, so of course Bernie should do it. This was also, unfortunately, around when Bernie's horrible bout of writer's block took hold; she struggled academically through much of her English degree requirements, and many professors spoke of their concern. She waved off their worries, graduated, and then Kilroy whisked her off to Aurora Bay to start their family. - For a long time, Bernie took birth control pills religiously. While she knew that, eventually, her husband expected children, her own strained relationship with her parents always turned her off to the idea. She just wasn't ready, and, truthfully, she wasn't certain she ever would be. Instead of a baby, Kilroy decided they should invest in a business. Without a real plan for her life anymore, Bernie agreed, and together they opened Hot Spot: a night club that, though insistent upon it's unique qualities, turned out to be just like any other night club. - And so that was life for nearly a decade. Years passed by like water through her fingers; never once did she turn back to her writing that had at one point been her only solace. Her distance led to some drinking and partying that she isn't proud of, and her drinking and partying led her to a string of bad decisions (and lack of care) that resulted in a baby. When Bernie was a ripe 30 years old (truly in her prime!) she gave birth to a daughter: Penelope. - Though she's loathe to admit it, Bernie felt burdened by the child. While she'd been pretty sure before, now she was certain: motherhood wasn't for her. She didn't even know if she loved Kilroy anymore. She didn't even know if she really loved men at all.

- In a terrible turn of events (and decidedly not the fault of drinking), Bernie began sleeping with Kilroy's sister when Penelope was 2. It just happened. The stress of being a new mother paired with the stress of being in a relationship she wasn't even sure she was still happy in drove her to terrible places - mostly between Elliot Wray's legs. - Three years of on-and-off sleeping around finally led to Kilroy discovering the affair (2019). Crushed and murderous, he threatened Bernie's parental rights. She didn't want them anyway. While she did want to be there for her daughter, she knew she couldn't be the parent that Penelope deserved, so she took partial custody of Penny and full custody of Hot Spot. - With a failing business on her hands and a new life in front of her, Bernie decided to embrace the newer clientele she had been serving. Most of the Hot Spot's patrons were fruity as it is, due to their high security measures making drag queens and their crews feel safe enough to dance without watching over their shoulders. In January of 2020, Bernie closed the Hot Spot for "renovations", and in April, she re-opened it under the name Seafoam. Since it's rebranding and reopening as an LGBTQ+ bar, its impact on the community (and Bernie's sense of self) has only grown. - After Kilroy and Bernie's divorce, Bernie called off the affair with Elliot. They're civil - more civil than with Kilroy - but it's not exactly hugs and kisses. Now, Bernie's throwing everything she has into making Seafoam as lively as possible, as well as being the best every-other-weekend-mother she can be. - When the whole ordeal with Bernie and Kilroy went down, Carol reappeared in her sister's life, this time with the intention of staying there for good. They've been repairing their relationship ever since, and are now best friends in the way they could never be while growing up. Carol has also been her biggest fan, hyping her up to get her back into writing (because the minute she left her ex-husband, her muse came back. How funny!)

One For All, chapter four

In an AU where the protagonist never fell from the sky, the Survey Corps will have to pull together and make use of every resource at their disposal to face the challenges present in Pokemon: Legends Arceus. There will be surveyshipping.

Sorry for the long wait between chapters- the next one should be up in about a week.

The Survey Corps members moved aside for Laventon as he approached the pastures, each understanding that the quest of the lake guardians would take precedence. Laventon didn't have many Pokémon that were trained as anything but research subjects, but he gathered his typhlosion and beautifly nonetheless, along with some particularly mysterious specimens he hoped would come in handy. He then stuffed his backpack with healing items, food, and crafting materials and met the others at the gate. It wasn't long before the six were gathered.

"According to Cogita, the materials we need to forge the red chain can be obtained from beings in the three lakes," Cyllene reiterated once everyone was present. "Splitting up seems inadvisable until we know what exactly the trials will entail. We'll start at Lake Acuity, as it's the furthest from any route Kamado is likely to be taking. I've gathered enough flying Pokémon from the pastures to transport those of you who do not have your own. My staraptor is fit to carry two. Laventon?"

"Alright, you'll ride with me. Let us be off." Cyllene took out the staraptor and mounted it. Laventon got on behind her as the other four got onto various flying creatures themselves.

With that, the staraptor took off into the air, the other four following. Afraid of falling, Laventon grabbed onto Cyllene's waist. If she minded, there was no sign of it. Everything looked so small from the sky, and the air rushed past them as though they were going a thousand miles an hour.

In less dire circumstances, this might be very pleasant, Laventon thought. Then he took a closer look at the world below.

From the up high, the disarray caused by the bleeding sky was already apparent. Grasses were beginning to wilt and turn brown, and normally docile Pokémon were running about, agitated and confused. Worse was that in the distance, Kamado's army could be seen marching up the trails of the Coronet Highlands. Laventon looked up at the hole in the sky, two massive shining creatures seeming to peer through it, and it dawned on him that he might not live to take a recreational flight.

The group landed on the island in Lake Acuity, returned their birds, and entered the small cavern without much thought, only to be faced with a ghostly maned fox that was larger than an ursaluna.

"Is that- the vengeful fox?" Irida exclaimed, terrified. It was so much bigger than the legends had said.

Whatever it was, it charged towards the group, teeth bared.

Volo ran to the front of the group and threw out a Pokémon- a strange, ghostly thing Laventon didn't recognize. "Dark pulse," Volo ordered. The second the dark beam caught up to the charging zoroark, it went down. That was another disturbing thing about Volo- he always seemed to have just enough power to handle any given task, and no one quite knew how he'd acquired it.

In a flash of light, a small, blue figure appeared in the center of the cave. Though the creature was small, power could be felt emanating off of it in waves. Cogita had described the being with a yellow hood as being the representation of knowledge. Was this it?

R e i came a voice. It was like a horrible vibration in Laventon's skull, but somehow he could tell that it had come from the lake guardian. S t e p  f o r w a r d.  M y  t r i a l  i s  y o u r s.

Rei stepped forward.

S h o w  m e  h o w  y o u  h a v e  u s e d  y o u r  c a p a c i t y  t o  l e a r n.  I  w i l l  j u d g e  i t s  w o r t h i n e s s.

Rei hesitated, trying to work out what exactly he'd learned that might impress the being. It wasn't though he was terribly intellectual- wouldn't Laventon be a better choice for this? But he had to try.

"Well... I learned how to make a pokéball," Rei said. "I guess I could show you."

Rei knelt down and took out his crafting kit. "Basically, you just have to make something hollow. The nuts are already hollow, and I take the ores to a smith to make the top half. You just put the two parts into the seal belt, and that’s all they need to be functional,” Rei explained as he cobbled together a basic ball. “There's other stuff you can add, though. One thing that’s a really good idea is the spark release on top, so you know when a catch has been successful. Without that, you might think you’ve caught something only to have it burst out in your face when you go to pick up the ball. Aside from that, there’s different types of ore for different weights, and iron for better quality. And that's pretty much all I know."

The strange pixie twirled in the air and then lowered itself down to Rei's level, presenting him with something in its tiny hands: what looked like a fragment of claw.

"Is this... for the chain?" Rei asked. But before he even finished speaking, the Pokémon was lifting into the air and was already fading away- perhaps teleporting, or simply destroying what had always been a mere representation of itself controlled from elsewhere.

"Wait! I have so much to ask you! We need your knowledge to fix the sky!" Rei called out, chasing after the form. A few steps into the chase, the creature had faded entirely, and Rei stopped.

"You did well, Rei," Cyllene assured him.

"Indeed you did," Laventon added. "I'm sure it has its reasons for not granting us its knowledge."

The trip to Lake Valor was uneventful, and this time the group had a better idea of what to expect. Cyllene led the group in, on alert for a Pokémon standing guard. No sooner did she poke her head into Valor Cavern then were a barrage of poisoned quills shot at her. She scrambled out and took out her alakazam, which put up a forcefield.

"Laventon, can you identify what Pokémon these barbs are from? I didn't get a good look at the Pokémon that shot them."

Careful not to exit the safety of alakazam's forcefield, Laventon picked up a barb from the ground. He squinted as he looked at the quill, trying to place where he'd seen anything similar.

"Those are definitely from an overqwil," Adaman cut in. "Looks like a big one, too. Their only weakness is ground."

"Then I know something that might help," Irida said, taking out her Celestica flute. With a few notes, an ursaluna came running over the hill. It swam through the lake and shook itself off once it washed up on the island, soaking the six humans.

"Hey, big guy," Irida said, giving the bear a stroke on the cheek and ignoring the grime she was now coated with. "I know you're usually a finder, but would you mind fighting something for us today?"

The ursaluna grunted in acknowledgment and shuffled into the cave. After taking out a few additional psychic-types to bolster Alakazam's forcefield, the others followed in and watched as the bear charged the enormous pufferfish. The overqwil expelled its quills, but most of them bounced off the bear's thick hide as easily as they bounced off the forcefield, and those that did prick it didn't seem to bother the ursaluna in the slightest. The ursaluna roared, reared up, and took the giant fish in its mouth, shaking it around as it deflated. It threw the fish against a wall and then ran to it and slashed with its claws until it was satisfied that the job was done.

No sooner had the bear returned to Irida's side did a light begin to shine in the middle of the cave. From the light, another sprite appeared- the one Cogita had called "Azelf."

L a v e n t o n, came the spirit's voice, s t e p  f o r w a r d.  M y  t r i a l  i s  y o u r s.

Laventon glanced nervously at the others and then stepped forward.

Y o u  m u s t  c a t c h  m e, Azelf stated. A large bag of ultra balls appeared in Laventon's arms. Then, Azelf turned into a shiny zubat and flew out of the cavern.

Laventon continued to cast nervous looks at his companions. He probably seemed on the brink of panic. "This is much more suited to any of you, I mean-"

"Laventon," Cyllene said, "We will help you however we can, but Azelf wanted you. It must have its reasons. You can do this."

Rei gave a nod of agreement. "I had the same thought with my trial. If I could do mine, you can do yours." Behind Rei, the clan members were nodding as well.

“Jolly good,” Laventon said, straightening up. “Irida, I’ll need use of Ursaluna’s nose.”

"You have my blessing," Irida said.

Laventon mounted the bear. Ursaluna didn't wait for orders. As soon as Laventon was securely upon it, it took off back into the lake and began swimming across. Laventon had to pray it knew what it was doing. As the bear neared the opposite shore, Laventon looked back at his companions, following him on various flying Pokémon. Ursaluna ascended over the hills, and that's when Laventon caught sight of a glimmer of hope: to their left was a colony of zubat flying about in the shade of a forested area.

The bear took an aggressive right.

"No!" Laventon told it. "Ursaluna, you have to turn around!"

Then, Laventon saw it. A shiny stantler in the fields was looking at him with a competitive gleam in its eye.

"Oh my, Azelf has taken a new form! Ursaluna, you're a genius!"

The stantler took off at a run. It was faster than Ursaluna.

"Stop," Laventon ordered. The bear skidded to a stop. Moments later, the other five landed. "I need something swift enough to catch up to Azelf. Cyllene, may I borrow your alakazam?"

Cyllene handed him the pokéball. Wasting no time, Laventon released it and used the creature's teleportation to catch up with the stantler just as it transformed into a buizel and scurried into a thick, wooded area. The woods were too dense for a riding Pokémon, so Laventon took chase on foot. He was hardly the fastest runner, but the weasel stayed within his sights, looking back at him periodically as though to mock him. Laventon fumbled for an ultra ball, took aim at the creature as it watched him from atop a log, and then promptly tripped over a tree root.

Laventon laid in the dirt, trying to catch his breath as Azelf scampered away and his companions caught up to him, none of them half as tired as he was. He really was terrible at this, wasn't he?

If it was the only way for them to pass the trial and save Hisui then perhaps that was for the best...

Cyllene offered Laventon a hand up. He took it.

"You know, individual strengths are often less important than the ability to use the strengths of others," Cyllene said. "Kamado has issued commands while injured that led the Galaxy Team to success. You are a field researcher. How have you caught slippery Pokémon in other regions?"

Laventon thought on that. "Well, there have been other species that I've had to flush out of their hidey-holes, and this isn't a big bush," Laventon mused. "If the five of you surround it with your Pokémon and move inwards, we can force Azelf out no matter what form it takes. I'll stand outside the bush, you get it to come towards me. Does that sound like a plan?"

"That sounds like an excellent plan," Cyllene said.

Laventon stood at the edge of the bush and waited as the other five and their Pokémon marched inwards. Bugs, birds, bats, rodents, and the occasional stantler were flushed out, and Laventon watched for any that showed signs of being Azelf, ultra ball at the ready. Azelf wanted to test him on willpower- on not giving up- so surely this was the correct course of action. Yes, he was sure of it.

Finally, a shiny buizel emerged from the bush, grinning at Laventon with pleased determination. Laventon hucked a ball at it. It bounced out of the way. He hucked another. It wasn't even close. Then, a number of other buizel emerged from the woods, scampering about as though Azelf had ordered them to make this trial even harder. Laventon trained his eyes on the white collar of the shiny and kept throwing.

Ten balls later, one hit. The ball shook once and then sparked.

Laventon let out a sigh of relief. Blood was coursing through him, and he felt more alive and keyed up than he could ever remember being.

The buizels dispersed, leaving behind only one- a second shiny. To Laventon's horror, the creature turned into Azelf. But then it picked up Laventon's ultra ball and handed it to him, along with a small horn.

"That was some leadership, professor!" Rei explained.

Laventon was stunned silent. "I caught a swift and slippery little buizel all by myself," he mused. "A shiny one! My God, that was... I don't even know what that was!"

"It was a fine performance," Cyllene said.

Before long, the group was on the move again, and not long after that, they were on the island of Verity Cavern. Before heading in, the group took a moment to heal their Pokémon.

"So, if Uxie's trial was showing knowledge, and Azelf's trial was showing willpower, Mesprit's will be showing emotion? That sounds like a really lame trial," Adaman stated.

"Maybe it'll go to someone who struggles to control their emotions, and they'll have to do something frustrating," Irida suggested.

"In that case, it's definitely your trial."

"Oh, please. You're the drama queen. And anyhow, I fought overqwil, so I had my turn."

"Ursaluna isn't your Pokémon, and you didn't give it orders," Adaman countered.

"Hmph! well-"

"Now is not the time," Cyllene said, leading the group in.

Within the cave was an alpha goodra. Rei took out his decidueye, but Cyllene stepped in front of him. "Allow me," she said, taking out her staraptor. "Close-combat."

The bird struck at the armoured dragon, denting its shell, but the goodra struck back, hitting Cyllene's staraptor with its massive tail and knocking it into a nearby wall.

Cyllene gave her bird a stiff nod to let it know to continue, and took out her samourott. "Ice beam," she commanded.

Between the two attackers, the Goodra was giving out far less damage than it was receiving, but Laventon found Cyllene's choice to step in baffling nonetheless. With the amount of office work they had to do while the other members were in the fields, he and Cyllene were among the weakest of the Survey Corps when it came to their Pokémon's levels, and Rei had long surpassed them. It wasn't like Cyllene to fail to delegate when it was for the better.

Is she trying to make sure she won't have to face the trial? Laventon wondered as the Goodra finally hit the ground and Cyllene's Pokémon returned to her for healing.

Just as had happened in the previous two caves, Mesprit appeared to the six in a flash of light.

Abilities: After gaining skill with a lance and then becoming a Dragoon, Myriam found that she could mold the light in her self to form a weapon, which would let them throw as many lances as they wanted. After some losses that weighed heavily upon them, they also found a skill at molding the darkness as well, learning to hone it under the tutelage of the one calling themself Frey. Wielding light and dark in equal measure, Myriam is a skilled frontline fighter, and would best be described as a “dodge tank” if such a thing were actually a thing in FFXIV.

Hobbies: In addition to learning every form of gathering and crafting so that they can make and maintain all her own gear, Myriam honestly loves dancing and music, and will take any opportunity to do a quick step dance or one of the Manderville dances she learned from Hildibrand. She takes particular pride in making food and potions for people, thanks to their memories of hunger as the Calamity-induced winter caused problems for their adopted hometown’s farms.

Most Positive Trait: Generally friendly with everyone, willing to learn all sorts of new things, generous with her time, and does not stand for injustice
