one of my favorite things about the whole buddie dynamics is the fact that while Buck is healing and beginning to choose himself (armchair scene) there's still a part of him that thinks he's only going to get love by risking his life, and that his life IS expendable. an "if I die, that's fine, but i sure would be sad if someone else dies" mentality.
it reminds me of that one line in inochi no kirawareteiru "Frankly, we don't care a bit if we, ourselves died but we'd be pretty said if the people around us died".
and Eddie... Eddie has been assuring him consistently that he is cherished, he is important, and he gets him out of his head when he's starting to spiral.
1...
Buck: I just, I wish I could- Eddie: Fix it? Buck: Yeah, yeah. I know I'm the guy who always wants to fix everything. Eddie: Hey! It comes in handy when you have a bunch of holes in your wall.
2...
Buck: They never wanted another kid. They just had me for parts. Defective parts, as it turned out.
Eddie: Hey, that's not on you.
3...
Eddie: I'd eat a couple extra slices. You look like you're wasting away to nothing.
Buck: Eddie--
Eddie:I will say, honestly, you being laid up is working out for me. I mean, you're no abuela, and you're half a Carla, but you'll do in a pinch.
Buck: You want me to watch Christopher?
Eddie: It's easy. He's not very fast.
Buck: After everything that happened?
Eddie: A natural disaster happened, Buck.
Buck: I lost him, Eddie.
Eddie: No, You saved him. That's how he remembers it. And now, it's his turn to do the same for you.
Buck: I was supposed to look out for him.
Eddie: And what, you think you failed? I failed that kid more times than I care to count, and I'm his father. But I love him enough to never stop trying, and I know you do too.
Eddie: Buck...there's nobody in this world I trust with my son more than you.
Eddie: Thank you for not giving up
4...
Eddie: Are you hurt? (shooting scene)
5...
Buck: Now, listen, I had an entire fire truck fall on my leg, and hey, look at me now.
Eddie: *shakes his head*
Carson: That sounds horrible.
Buck: No, horrible was the blood clots you get after. Mine was in my lung. I was coughing up blood. And they put you on these blood thinners and...
Eddie: Buck.
(I always saw this as Eddie shaking his head because Buck was making fun of what happened to him and not because Buck might scare Carson because Carson wasn't really that scared anymore at that time)
6...
Bobby and Buck arrives at the firehouse, Eddie is alone and opens his arms, waiting to hear the news.
Bobby: Clean bill of health from the docs.
Eddie: Glad to hear it.
Eddie: Show-off.
Buck: I had to do it.
Eddie: No, I know you did.
7...
Doctor: We'll do our best.
Eddie: Do more!
and of course 8...
Eddie: Because, Evan you came in here the other day and you said you thought it would have been better if it had been you who was shot. You act like you are expendable, but you’re wrong.
there's probably a lot more but these are the top ones that I can think of.
i think for someone who lived their whole life looking for purpose (and somehow putting themself in harm's way is something they are accustomed to do) and having someone who has their back, defending them not just from others but their own mind as well, consistently, is a match incomparable.

I think it would be funny - in a post-BT breakup, Buck still oblivious to his feelings about Eddie world - if there was an episode where Buck tries to manifest his perfect partner into existence, and every reference to this practice is immediately followed by Eddie just showing up.
For example:
"I'm waiting for the universe to send me a sign."
"A sign about what?"
"About my perfect match. If I manifest hard enough, maybe the universe will point me to where I need to go?"
"Buck, the universe doesn't just... hand out relationships or - or signs to people who want it bad enough!"
Cut to Eddie walking up the steps of the loft holding a package.
"The new signs you ordered for the loading bay just arrived Bobby."
"Perfect. Let's see what they look like."
Buck is still talking with Hen and Chimney while this is happening behind him.
"I know it won't be, like, the universe will point an arrow at someone going 'This Is the Love Of Your Life' but maybe I'll feel a certain energy in the air... or a spark?"
Eddie takes a sign from out the box.
"What do you think?"
"I think you're holding it wrong. The arrow should be pointed down, not up."
Eddie looks and sees the arrow pointing at him. "Yeah, don't need anyone thinking they can just park on my face."
Anyway the episode kinda plays like that for 44 minutes.

Buck, watching Eddie play with Jee and Mara: One day I'm gonna put a baby in that man. Hen: How would that work exactly? Chim: Yeah man, do we need to have the bees and the bees talk again? Buck: You're both forgetting I helped Connor get pregnant before, I can definitely get Eddie pregnant, no sweat.

As if I wasn't already exhausted enough this morning...
It's been brought to my attention that people are taking my fanfics, editing them, and sharing them around. I don't have the words to describe how not okay this is. If you don't like something about my fanfic, then I'm sorry to hear that, but there are a lot of other fics out there you can read instead.
I put time and effort and care into my writing, as does every writer. To take my work without permission and change it feels like someone just punched me in the gut. Frankly it makes me not want to share my work at all and to take down all the writing I do have up, because why should I share anything with people if all they're going to do is decide it's not good enough and they're going to do what they want with it and make it "better"?
And before anyone comes at me, this is not what a transformative work does. This is not the same as fanfiction. I'm fucking exhausted from working two eleven hour shifts over the weekend so my brain is not working so someone smarter and more articulate than I am can explain why. I'm tired.
This genuinely makes me want to take down all my works and not share anything new. It's very simple, kiddos: Don't like it? Don't read it. You will miss out on some fanfics that way, just like you'll miss out on some films, or books, or TV shows. I've missed out on really good fic, novels, films, etc, for the same reason. We all do. It's a part of life. Stuff will sometimes have things in it that you don't like. Skim those parts, fast-forward those scenes, grin and bear it, or just go and read/watch something else.
Normally I would make this post unrebloggable but I worry other writers in this fandom might experience the same thing and not realize it. So people are welcome to reblog this. Anyone who's an ass on it will be blocked, no second chances.
Just. Don't do this guys. Holy shit don't do this. What the actual fuck.

9-1-1 getting renewed before they finish filming means they don't have to try to wrap up everyone's story with a little bow like they did at the end of season 6 because they had no idea if they'd be back for a 7th season. They can write stories that span seasons if they want to!!
This is SO exciting.

Sometime going into a trending tag is very funny. "If the two male leads of this tv show from the 2000s/early 2010s don't canonically end up together, I don't know what I will do with myself !"
I don't know how to explain to you that before, like, 2017, This Did Not Happen. There were straight couple, and next to them were Ambigusly Close Men (Often With Female Love Interests), and you considered yourself lucky if in the finale they weren't in straight relationships. There were hints. There were gay actors, there were jokey "ahah let's not talk about New Year Party!", there were people being homophobic to them. But it was known that they Would Not End Up Together.
Please manage your expectations.

I just feel like it's nasty for Hen Chim Eddie to be dancing when Buck looks so upset next to them. Yes, Gerrard being gone, but they should be more aware that their team member is actually not happy. They didn't try to stand up for him either, Buck was the only one pushing back.
i've been thinking about how to answer this for a few days now without being outright rude, and who knows if i managed but here it goes:
hen, chim and eddie don't owe anyone a single thing. it is not their job to stand up against everything, and it is not on them to defend buck at every given turn. they aren't in the wrong for wanting to keep their head down in front of their racist, misogynist boss. it is not the responsibility of people of color to keep standing up for themselves and others in face of such racist and backwards behavior. sometimes the safest thing they can do is just keep their head down.
they say it canonically in the show that hen is trying to keep her nose clean for the sake of getting her foster license back. that chim is in the same boat. hen and chim have dealt with gerrard for years before bobby, and theres always been this underlying current that gerrard will find ways to get them fired if they do anything he doesn't like, even more so now. and eddie has been in the army and knows what it's like to keep his head down - also his job is kind of the only thing he has left in his life anyway?? he can't really afford to risk that, or his parents will never let chris come back to him. if they want to celebrate not having to walk around eggshells at their place of work, then they damn well deserve to.
we saw maybe a thirty second clip about this whole thing anyway. we don't know if anyone talked to buck about it off-screen. we don't know if they even had time for the discussion given that los angeles was taken over by bees and there's a plane about to crash to earth with athena in it?? in that split second scene, we do see eddie telling buck that he saved gerrard's life and we see eddie sort of angle himself in front of buck all the while, too. that in itself speaks volumes.
also you mention buck pushing back - tell me right now that if hen, chim and/or eddie pushed back the same way buck did, they'd still get to keep their jobs. gerrard wouldn't waste a single minute writing them up, or putting formal warnings in their files, whereas buck has at least one type of privilege that they don't have, and it's often the one that people can't ignore: he's white. kitchen and bathroom duty is the worst consequence he has - that is not the same for hen and chim, or eddie. their consequences could involve losing their children, so forgive me if im not so eager to jump to buck's defense here.
yes, buck is conflicted, and he's valid for that cause he's never wanted to be the reason someone's hurt. but to expect hen, chim and eddie to coddle him is just not it.
this is such a pattern with racist people and i've seen it all my life, so getting an ask like this was upsetting, but also seeing this rhetoric in fandom was also upsetting? why is the onus on the poc characters to keep the white characters happy??
tl;dr: hen, chim, eddie don't owe anyone a single thing, and buck is a grown ass man who can handle himself and he can communicate like a big boy if he needs more reassurance :) also, they were so true for that dance party.
