In Honour Of This Week’s NYFW

The Met Gala outfits were kind of a letdown. In general I wasn't happy with the Karl Lagerfeld theme because he was kind of awful. (Which is on brand for Chanel, I guess, because Coco Chanel was a Nazi.)

But so many people just wore his designs plain. They looked like normal red carpet outfits. But that's not what the Met Gala is for. It's to wear something you couldn't wear anywhere else. It's a runway! Like Tyra says in ANTM, "make if fashion."

Jared Leto wore a Halloween costume of a cat. That annoyed me. He annoys me. I appreciate the impulse to dress like Lagerfeld's cat, who was the non-problematic member of that family. But it wasn't fashion.

Doja Cat, who I'm still a little bit mad at for continuing to work with Dr. Luke after he raped Kesha (I don't understand why this man has music coming out in the year of our lord 2023), did a sexy cat dress. I just wish she hadn't done prosthetics and meowed on the red carpet. But it was pretty good.

Michaela Coel was my favorite I think. Rihanna and Anne Hathaway also had very on-theme outfits that I appreciated.

I also thought Brian Tyree Henry looked great and you know Karl Lagerfeld was rolling over in his grave because he was such a fatphobe. Seeing plus sized men (I don't think Henry is even "fat" just normal) serving at an gala in Lagerfeld's honor gave me life.

I think cis people should also be their gender of choice. Like, if you're a man, you should get to really enjoy being a man- have fun with it! If you're a woman, take the parts of womanhood that really deeply make you happy. If being a little androgynous or ambiguous or hidden is the part that really makes you happy, you don't have to be trans for that. If you wanna lean really hard into being femme or masc- do it! You have one life in your body, do what makes you happy. Ditch the stuff you don't like.

My sinister queer agenda is I think that everyone should be the gender they like in the way they like it.
