Small fantasy worldbuilding elements you might want to think about:
A currency that isn’t gold-standard/having gold be as valuable as tin
A currency that runs entirely on a perishable resource, like cocoa beans
A clock that isn’t 24-hours
More or less than four seasons/seasons other than the ones we know
Fantastical weather patterns like irregular cloud formations, iridescent rain
Multiple moons/no moon
Planetary rings
A northern lights effect, but near the equator
Roads that aren’t brown or grey/black, like San Juan’s blue bricks
Jewelry beyond precious gems and metals
Marriage signifiers other than wedding bands
The husband taking the wife's name / newlyweds inventing a new surname upon marriage
No concept of virginity or bastardry
More than 2 genders/no concept of gender
Monotheism, but not creationism
Gods that don’t look like people
Domesticated pets that aren’t re-skinned dogs and cats
Some normalized supernatural element that has nothing to do with the plot
Magical communication that isn’t Fantasy Zoom
“Books” that aren’t bound or scrolls
A nonverbal means of communicating, like sign language
A race of people who are obligate carnivores/ vegetarians/ vegans/ pescatarians (not religious, biological imperative)
I’ve done about half of these myself in one WIP or another and a little detail here or there goes a long way in reminding the audience that this isn’t Kansas anymore.

Some of the biggest fantasy worldbuilding fails that I see, in no particular order
Gods without religion. The Gods are real and a known historical fact, but virtually nobody is religious.
Cultural racism/discrimination without structural racism/discrimination. Discrimination that exists only in microagressions or mean comments, without existing in any sort of structural way.
Secret history with no clear reason for it to be secret and no clear method for maintaining that secrecy. Major parts of the world's history are kept entirely secret, even though there's not an obvious reason to do so and even when history has shown this is virtually impossible to enforce (especially in a world with any movement or communication across borders).
Large, homogeneous countries. Even without immigration, virtually no country larger than the Vatican will be fully homogeneous in terms of culture, dialect, beliefs, traditions, etc., much less a large one with limited communication technology as is often seen in fantasy. The Planet of Hats problem.

You might be more than one. You might be different ones at different times. 🫶🏽🫶🏽 you might not be one of these. There are more roles 💪🏽 but this is an amazing intro.
You can’t just like the idea and envision yourself in one of these roles you have to figure out how to be about it ♥️🫶🏽

This was sent over Google Voice. Reading over the 'acceptable use' policy, the only potential violation is that Google (or more likely, an AI) flagged it for 'promoting illegal behavior'.
We all knew google was no longer abiding by it's motto of "don't be evil" but this is censorship and an attempt to thwart our ability to organize.
I've never been particularly radical in my politics but shit like this? I can feel myself being radicalized in my very bones. (And I am now much more fueled to go to any protests I'm capable of going to)

34,709 words of all sorts of various drafts and ideas since I last updated lol
Total word count for 2024: 42,422
Not great, the first half of the year being particularly slow, but that's because my work was going to shit.
My work is still going to shit, but it's to the point where I'm disconnecting which I guess gives me a bit more time to write lol

you may even project all of these but some things get reused more than others... for me it's being aspec, giving the blorbos a cat, and headcanoning them as being good at singing lmao.

Tbf, that is exactly how Matt described him at the end of C2 during the wrap up.
Also can I just say that I love that we collectively agreed that Verin must in fact be a himbo. Like there was no other option, he was a himbo. And Matt delivered. Bless.

Self care post to deal with the election:
FUCKING LOG OFF
Take a walk.
Sit, close your eyes, and breathe evenly
Engage in a hobby
Literally touch grass (grounding, touching actual earth helps shed electrons and improves mental health)
Lay down and close your eyes
Print and color some pictures
We need to process and grieve. We need to take care of ourself. We need to remind ourselves of the immediate communities we're in. We need to remember that the fight can be made my inches day by day
Please: disconnect and assess the environment you actually live in and the fights that are actually worth it
