Round three of coloring my sketches of the D&D!Lifers (original idea again courtesy of @theglitternet)

Featuring: Bdubs, Etho, and Impulse! (Again, does this group have a trio nickname?)

Thought processes for the designs below the cut:

Bdubs was assigned Wild Magic Sorcerer, and I ended up hybridizing his default Life Series skin with his mossy skin because I feel like Bdubs with a moss cloak/jacket is just way too iconic in the fandom by this point to not include. Helps with the messy gremlin vibes he has going that fits way too well with Wild Magic as a subclass. I ended up using that magenta color for his magic explosion, mostly because I didn’t know what other color to use and decided to just reuse the color of the dragon eye on his bandolier just to keep the palette concise. And I made him short because yes. Probably would be a halfling.

Etho was assigned Artillerist Artificer, and for his outfit I basically just translated his skin as best I could. I’ve never watched Naruto so I didn’t use Kakashi as any reference even thought that’s literally what Etho’s skin is. So I ended up just improvising based solely on his skin, and gave him a big ol’ canon to set off. Also, you can’t see it very well because his hair hides his ears, but I assigned him as an elf.

Impulse was assigned Arcane Trickster Rogue, and for his outfit I ended up kinda hybridizing a couple of his Life Series skins together and trying to incorporate at least a bit of leather armor because rogue. Oddly, for being one of my main POVs I watch, I had a hard time figuring out the colors and such. Though I’m pretty proud of how I basically snuck in his iconic “I” shape by having his leather chestpiece cover part of the yellow stripe on his tunic. And of course, he’s a tiefling to go along with the fanon of Impulse being an imp. I did experiment with adding a bit more of a yellowish tone to his tail and horns to push the tiefling idea but I didn’t like how that looked. The yellow spectral arm is his Mage Hand.

I was listening to the "I'll let the world burn for you" song and, while thinking on kakaobi, I realized that's SO farcille coded

So now I thought "crossover au where kakaobi is farcille", but idk who would be marcille bc, honestly, both would use dark magic to resurrect the other, mr. Hatake "Don't use rinne tensei even if it means not saving many lives" Kakashi and mr. Uchiha "I'll destroy this world and create a dream one to have my loved ones again" Obito

I think Marcille Kakashi fits best if we really wanna play off that "star student turned you're worst nightmare" angle, hes my favorite rising star prodigy who tried to run too far and too fast and crashed and burned for it

Also just Chimera Obito, cmon, come on. If nothing else, I am now committed to seeing Uchiha as chimeras, it's fun

Mad Mage Madara and ruler of the golden kingdom Izuna fits alarmingly well actually, both for the roles and like, narratively from multiple angles. Madara going mad bc of his brothers death, him turning Obito into a monster, his general monstrousness coming from a place of love. It works scarily well

Maybe Tobirama can take the role of that Yaad has, cursed to be immortal and lord of the golden country hidden within the dungeon in Izuna's absence. Madara visits him sometimes and insists it'll all be ok once Izuna is back as Tobirama calls him insane to his face

Anyways; back to the party.

So Marcille Kakashi and Falin Obito. Rin has to be on their team for obvious reasons, but I reeeeally wanna see Itachi, Shisui and Tenzo on it too bc I'm such a sucker for Team Ro.

Alternativley tho, if we make Kakashi an elf, what if we have Team Ro kind of take the place of the Canaries, and say Kakashi was once part of it but bc reasons eventually left and did his own thing? ANBU/ROOT -> Canaries pipeline or smthn idk

(I just want to see team ro somewhere around)

Anyways, Kakashi turning to black magic to save Obito, only inadvertedly managing to make him into a monster, both of them effectively dragging eachother down more and more and further and futher in their unwillingness to let eachother go.

I bet it'd do awful things to Kakashi's guilt complexe too, that'd be fun

Doing smthn fun, let Hashirama be a ghost wandering around trying to talk Madara down from his usual bullshit, but confined to the lower floors or else he risks losing himself. Now let him posess Tenzo bc they have similar magic and let it give him a cool plant magic power up, and also let this mean he can now move between floors as long as he stays inside of Tenzo. Maybe he can help guide them through the dungeon

Let Madara see Obito or Itachi for the first time and realize that his family somehow continued to exist outside of the dungeon walls, and let him feel smthn about it. Let him call him turning Obito into a chimera as something like love, something like welcoming him home, and let him try to offer Itachi something similar.

I have a couple other thoughts but Imma hit post on this bc its been sitting in my drafts for too long now, might come back to add more later but idk

The term “Modern AU” for Naruto fandom needs to die. (Jk, sort of). It needs a new name, for ontologies sake.

Like. There is no consistency to the technological advancement in Naruto at all, but nonetheless, it is a demonstrable product of its initial years of development, which is the 90’s.

Throughout pt1 and Shippuden, we get a weird and nonsensical mix of Showa era (all of it, from 1886-1949) postwar period (1947-1980 thereabouts, though Wikipedia will disagree with me on that) and mid-late 90’s tech boom.

Now you could solidly argue for a “modern” interpretation of the Showa-era systems and customs, although that very much interferes with 1. the Uchiha as a clan, because they are 100% late Showa / WW2 period culturally. Hyuuga are more representative of the earlier Showa era, like 1920’s or so. SO yes you could do away with that, but frankly those clans are not themselves outside of that satirical context. (And I do actually think Kishimoto meant it to be satire, or at least his editor, who came up with most of the Uchiha premise, did). And

2. The whole Shinobi premise, which had still-living threads during that time period despite Shinobi as a profession supposedly dying in the 1850’s. (Pfffffft, Like mercenaries went anywhere during the European renaissance; they simply went from mercs to commissioned officers. Title change but not role change. Same idea.)

Furthering this, if you take them out of the dirt, so to speak, then they cease to have the in-universe function that they do. They don’t have to — you can still absolutely mock up a Mercenary-Paramilitary-Mage Caste for the “modern” world, by which is typically meant: In Japan/Our World, not the NarutoVerse.

Yes I know I’m being pedantic, but to say “modern” implies “past” and while there’s lots of that in Naruto, there’s also:

90’s Telephones (why doesn’t the Hokage have one in their office??? Landline is pretty darn secure.)

90’s Electricity

Computers (90’s era, but clunky things with limited functionality but can store data)

Floppy Disks to go with the above

Security cameras

Polaroids (again, 90’s era)

The cutting-edge-of-its-time (90’s again) radio collars

Industrial production of steel (how? We don’t know. But they can build 80’s-90’s skyscrapers, somehow.)

Steam engine (not that impressive or modern, but like, Where Are The Trains. We got 90’s steam boats in Kiri, but no locomotives? How? Why?)

Medical devices. Oh the list I could make about that. All like mid- late 90’s, at least in Konoha/Orochimaru and Co. The iron lung does not exist, replaced by stately 1999-2002 ventilators. (Kimmimaro) The concept of IV nutrition exists and is applicable, even if Kishi did an absolutely abysmal job of demonstrating that. (On Kakashi) (the reality: So. Many. Ports.) That little innovation didn’t exist until 1982, and didn’t actually work until 1996. (Because figuring out how to synthesize metabolic fats and proteins was really hard); you’ve got Ostomy tubes and bags that belong in 1995, (Kimmimaro again) and don’t even get me started on Lab equipment. Do you know how long it took to produce incubators that didn’t take up a quarter of a room? Do you have any idea what the world of cloning looked like in the 90’s? (Actually, it was a lot more advanced at that point than it is in Naruto, which is stuck in like, 1980’s with that notion).

And I could go on!

And there is just as many examples of the inverse, too, where there’s things juxtaposed to the past level. Example:

Psychiatric care. Granted we don’t see a lot of that outside of Kakashi’s little stint, but it is very 1940’s-1950’s type BS.

Similar to that, most the stuff in the Interrogation Unit. From attitudes to technology, but mostly in just the very weird, 1930-1950’s way the whole thing operates. Kishimoto did not do his research there, very obviously (Torture does not work like that), but nonetheless they give me Nazi vibes. (Well, Inaba and Ibiki do, respectively). That part might be intentional, but it still doesn’t really make sense in the bigger scope. (Why doesn’t the village know things when they are a SHINOBI VILLAGE. A postwar village no less! Make it make sense Kishi!)

Some elements of medicine. There’s a very weird divide there, between synthesized chemicals that are complex poisons, which SHOULD mean complex medicines exist, (because the only difference between medicine and poison is the dose and many toxins have medical value) and the demonstration of this, which relies upon herbalism. I suppose both those would exist in a Shinobi’s world, but there’s a bizarre element of “only the bad guys actually have good medicine” going on, which again is a very 1940-1950’s thing.

Idk, I feel like “modern” sort of fits? But not entirely. Because fundamentally the NarutoVerse is a completely separate dimension, a twisted alternate reality that is very removed from our own yet also very like it.

Gahhhhh the world building in this series is hot, messy garbage 🤣

I would love to see an AU where it’s more homogeneous, like smack-dab postwar all over the board. Or even just bring her up to the 90’s. That would be actual modern-NarutoVerse.

But using Modern to mean “Our World” has always just been a small thing to bugger me. Use what you want, because I don’t think the term is going anywhere, but if I can’t share this anywhere else I can share it here.

I've been walloped over the head with Naruto fixation in the middle of being eaten by FF14 (having fun with Dawntrail) and I keep thinking about the Team 7 light party that I assigned on the fly HAHA my personal thoughts on the matter is

- Sakura is the tank (Warrior for the party heal/self heal/blue healer joke) (also realized after the fact that warrior has the whole Inner Beast thing, so you could crack an inner Sakura joke) (also warrior keeps getting bigger and bigger Fell Cleaves and I think it would be funny)

- Kakashi is on Scholar/healer because he gets a little book and the carbuncles and I thought it would be funny (also I think he should play lalafell for fun)

- Sasuke is Reaper for the edgey melee dps. I think reaper enshroud & the lore might be enticing bc the, like, pact with a little funny demon thing

- Naruto is a Ninja for the bit and also melee dps (menace with shukuchi/gap closing and also greeding DPS) (finds the smallest teeny tiniest safe spots about half the time)

I keep pondering who else you could add into the party to make a full static but I fell off of reading around halfway thru the Gaara Rescue arc years ago...absorbed the rest by osmosis so I know about Sai and Yamato but I'm not sure who else I would pick for a party of 8...there's too many options....I think Sai would of course be pictomancer but idk what Yamato would be HAHA maybe white mage? For the blood lily? Kakashi and Yamato shield healer/regen healer team? (This leaves one tank spot and one damage-dealer spot open if I can count correctly)

It would be kind of funny if the inevitable desire to make all things an FF14 AU is what makes me reread Naruto but that depends on getting my brain together HAHA

I thiiiiink it would be a modern AU where they all game together just bc I don't have the brain to try a fusion AU at the moment, but I could imagine Sasuke having surprisingly really deep lore for his character and writing fanfic in his head and then getting mortified when he accidentally lets it slip (not ready to be perceived by his friends)

(someone gets Sasuke to pick up dark knight and like, if you connect with it, dark knight quests can change man HAHA, they check in on him in a while and he's having a Time)

I'll think about it...I'm in the ao3 trenches right now (close 5 tabs and somehow I have 50 more tabs)

Were you thinking of itachi and Naruto being the same age or just closer (and is sasuke and everyone still younger or are they aged up too?)

But either way, I keep thinking of itachi being this little genius far too aware of what life as a shinobi and heir to a major clan means. Him finding everything in this world predictable in its cruelty. At least until he finds a selfless little blonde hunched protectively over a hurt fox kit and flashing long fangs at two kids that were clearly trying to hurt it for fun.

This Naruto with whisker shaped scars instead them being jinchuriki marks. Scars over mute marks? I love that fanon idea so much but I honestly forgot about it for a while. So maybe?

Kinda in love with this Naru looking just like his mom but having a lot more of his dads mannerisms? It’s just doing something to my heart (and probably Kakashi’s life expectancy)

If he had the uzumaki bite healing thing, do you think it’d work with Itachi’s eyes? That’d be interesting.

I would say Naruto a year or two younger than Itachi while the other usual suspects are the same age as normal.

(I’m also playing with the idea of them of course being spies in the Akatsuki but also playing both sides and working together to try and save the Jinchuriki)

Okay yes the eye question for the healing is important but what would it do for Itachi’s tuberculosis UNNAMED RESPIRATORY ILLNESS

Snnxndjshsbs Naruto who while more jaded still has a good heart under all that scar tissue and a weak spot for the underdogs. Naruto who made genin but was left in the dust because no matter how hard he tried to prove himself no one wanted to promote the monster. Naruto who is just as skilled as the ANBU (he runs circles around all but two of them after all sharp chittering laughs mocking grown adults as he eluded them yet again) but gets none of the perks. Naruto who feels one of the two chakra signatures that are kind and perks up.

Both of them who see someone like them. Someone that doesn’t fit in. Someone with a gentle heart in a cruel world. Someone who grew fangs and claws to fight back against that cruelty.

Itachi isn’t entirely sure why he confessed everything to Naruto. Why he told him of every horrible detail of his assignment.

He wasn’t expecting righteous anger on his behalf. Wasn’t expecting a clawed hand in his own offering to help so he didn’t have to do this alone.

(He still isn’t sure to this day if Naruto meant help with the ordered Uchiha massacre, help him run, or help him kill the mage and his advisors himself. He isn’t entirely certain Naruto knew either.)

They leave the village covered in blood. Naruto still cloaked in chakra that dripped with malice as he supported itachi with an arm around his middle. They were rogues now. Missing nin. They could never go back.

“Why?” Itachi gasped forcing them to a stop as he looked at the short boy next to him. So much power in such an unassuming package. The power to destroy entire clans entire villages if he wished. “Why help me?”

Naruto blinked, eyes still more red than blue as he cocked his head to the side. (It was hard to tell how much blood was on him with that wild mane of red hair.) “you were one of the only people who were nice to me, and you needed help.”

It hits Itachi then, how much power he truly has here.

Naruto doesn’t hate the village. (Or he does but that is not his driving motivation)

Naruto is following who he considers to be his only friend.

And itachi…

He will not be as cruel as the world around him. Will not throw that friendship back in Naruto’s face. Will honor it and return it tenfold.

He owes Naruto that much.

Meet Mira

For my first post, I wanted to introduce myself. Hi! I’m Miralina and I created Give Me Anime as an outlet to discuss the anime I was watching and, from time-to-time, the manga I’m reading.

When I’d get home from school, I would rush to watch whatever anime was on during the early afternoon timeslots on the kids channel; Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, Digimon, and Pokémon. Then one day I caught an episode of Dragon Ball Z and I was hooked. I used to stay up late to catch whatever shows were playing at night (Dragon Ball, Gundam, Naruto, etc.). When streaming became a thing, it was exciting to discover all the anime I never have access to. The world of anime felt endless.

I thought it might be fun to answer some questions so that you can get to know me through my anime preferences. Let the interview begin!

What's your favorite anime? We can slice this question in a few different ways, but if we go with number of times I’ve rewatched it, probably Haikyu (my #1 comfort anime). Number of watches aside: either Demon Slayer or Attack on Titan.

What’s an anime that you think everyone should watch? I’m interpreting this question as if I’m being asked by someone who is new to anime - so I’m thinking something easy to watch, that would wow you with the art style while also having a story that keeps you hooked. To me, that would be Spirited Away. Otherwise, if you watch a ton of modern action anime, try Ghost in the Shell. If you’re looking for something modern but unique, try Orb.

Which anime do you think deserves a sequel or another season? Maybe an odd choice but I would love it if Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan got a second season. It’s an anime about adults who work on a children’s TV show and how soul sucking it can be. The adults on the show are going through the struggles of adulthood, the realizations that their lives aren’t quite turning out how they imagined, all the while having to keep a constant stream of positivity and high energy levels as they interact with their child audience. Despite the heavy topics, it’s actually a comedy and I find it incredibly funny and watchable - hits nice and close to home in adulthood.

What kind of anime do you enjoy watching? I watch everything and anything. But I probably watch Shonen/Seinen anime the most.

Who’s your favorite anime character? Lately, I’m loving Frieren. She’s cute, kind, a little socially awkward but she tries so hard to compensate for that weakness. She’s totally unassuming but then you learn she’s like the One-Punch Man of mages. My answer changes all the time. I could pick Itachi Uchiha for the nostalgia (and because he’s awesome), or Shoyo Hinata because his determination is inspiring, or even Gin (from Gintama) because he’s beyond ridiculous and always gets me laughing. I feel like my favourite character changes based on whatever mood I’m in.

When did you start watching anime? Since I can remember - like 5-6 years old?

What anime do you dislike? I don’t know if this is controversial because it seems to be popular and well rated but Oshi no Ko. I tried, I really did. But I could not get past the first few episodes. Maybe if I did it would have gotten better? I’m opened to being convinced to give it another try. Tell me why the story was compelling for you.

What was the last anime you watched? I’m watching a bunch of anime at the same time (between what I watch solo and what I watch alongside my husband) but currently, I’m watching My Hero Academia on my own.

What’s your favorite anime opening? Link Click Season 2, I get chills every time. It’s the animation, the way it changes slightly as the story progresses, the song, it comes together beautifully.

What’s your favorite anime scene? An impossible question to answer definitively. This answer also depends on the mood I’m in. For now, I’ll go with the Kakashi vs Obito fight (season 18). The animation and combat sequence blew my mind when I first watched it. It still holds up over a decade later.

What’s your favorite thing about anime? I’ve always loved the art, even as a little kid. My husband is a 3D generalist and, from watching him, I’ve learned the type of work that goes into every frame. Whether it’s an old school, hand drawn anime, or something more modern incorporating 3D, I have a deep appreciation for the animation. Aside from that, I really like being able to watch anime with other people or talking about anime - just the shared experience of it! It’s always going to be a family activity in our household.

Going forward I’ll make posts about some of the anime I’m watching. I’ll also put together a review of the latest anime season and set out my top picks for the season ahead.

Toonami Weekly Recap 02/15/2025

Mashle: Magic and Muscles (Magia Lupus Arc) EP#12 Season 1 Finale - Mash Burnedead and the Magic Mirror: The Innocent Zero mage arrives to kill Abel. Mash obliviously covers him in cream due to a poorly timed sneeze, bewildering everybody. The mage realises with some disgust that Mash is who he is looking for. Abyss is almost killed saving Abel, with the mage realising he only missed a fatal blow with his Carbon magic because Mash threw a perfectly aimed rock at his wand. Abel is confused why Abyss tried to save him. Mash points out Abyss was probably grateful Abel accepted him when nobody else did. Abel remembers his mother telling him the importance of empathy and distracts the mage, allowing Mash to punch him only to find his skin protected by indestructible carbon. Refusing to believe Mash is using physical strength only the mage gloatingly uses a Spell-flection Mirror to reflect Mash' spells back at him, but Mash simply smashes it. This unintentionally reveals to everyone that Mash has only used physical strength since joining the academy because he is Magic-less. The mage reveals he is Cell War before teleporting away. Abel takes Abyss to the infirmary. Mash's friends decide to keep his secret, until they remember Abel's 100 freed dolls are human again and heard everything, meaning Mash' secret is exposed. Cell reports to his father he has finally located Mash.

Blue Exorcist (Exorcist Candidate Live Combat Arc) EP#13 - Proof: Shura had been a former apprentice of Shiro, and posed as one of Rin's classmates because she was tasked to investigate his connection with Satan. Shiro had requested Shura to look after Rin should something happen to him. With orders to kill him if his connection is proven true, she is divided between fulfilling her duty and keeping Shiro's request. Her doubts are cleared when she discovers that Rin loved Shiro as his father, and Shiro was actually raising him as a son, not a weapon against Satan.

Naruto (Land of Waves Arc) EP#06 - A Dangerous Mission! Journey to the Land of Waves!: After Team 7 completes a few miscellaneous D-ranked missions, Naruto relentlessly asks Hiruzen for a higher level C-rank mission, and they are eventually assigned to escort a bridge builder named Tazuna back to the Land of Waves. But they are ambushed along the way by the Demon Brothers, two Chunin from the Hidden Mist Village in the Land of Water. Though it appeared they killed him as they go after Team 7 and Tazuna, the Demon Brothers learned that Kakashi was aware of their presence and faked his death to catch them off-guard and see his students in action. While applauding Sasuke for holding off the Demon Brothers and Sakura for guarding Tazuna, Kakashi expresses disappointment in how poorly Naruto handled the situation and got himself poisoned. But Naruto refuses to quit the mission, and with Sasuke's taunting getting to him, uses a kunai to stab his hand to bleed out the poison while making a promise to never back down again. Though Kakashi decides to have Naruto's self-inflicted wound dealt with, he is amazed by the boy's rapid healing and wonders if it is the Nine-Tails's doing. Elsewhere, a man named Gato confronts the Demon Brothers' boss for his subordinates' failure to assassinate Tazuna. Threatening Gato with his large sword, the figure decides to handle the job personally.

In my head, I thought it would be cool to draw Rin as a gnome, though her skirt definitely isn't dungeon proof, she's a cleric who probably worked civilian before joining the dungeoneering team.

But at the same time, half foot Rin is a really cool idea, the idea that her village wasn't keen at all on magic and she had to push herself through mana sickness and her few resources to learn how to heal with it. She doesn't expect to leave outside her village until she gets taken up by Kakashi and Obito.

Dshkahdjskdbsj it's really nice throwing stuff at you and hearing the absolute enthusiasm at all the brain worms infesting my head. I'm eating this positive reinforcement like sugar

Half foot Rin actually sounds really fun, I love it. I feel like there's smthn to be said in the way that the stereotypes related to half foots might translate also to expectations and unfair judgments Rin might have faced as a soft spoken, young, female medic in canon

Rin trying her hardest to become a mage in a village that doesn't support her my beloved ,, I'm trying to think ab how Kakashi Obito and her might have met in the au. Obviously Kakashi is tricky bc like, he's an elf, so if Rin is a half foot and Obito a tall man, they can't all be childhood friends due to the age differences. Hmmmm, so many thoughts

So like, childhood friends Rin and Obito. But also Kakashi, super huge rising star magic genius, is well known enough that Rin really admired him even before they met, especially bc hes rumored to be partially self taught (like her!!!) She had like a celebraty crush on him, which pissed Obito off a bit

Ofc his arrest for using ancient magic and subsequent tossing into the Canaries was p well known, but I'm undecided if it's well known enough that Rin would have heard of it or if it's only well known within certain circles just due to the high profile of those involved

So like. Eventually when they formed a part together, Kakashi only gave his first name (he'd long since stopped giving out his last) and Rin literally went *oh !!! Like Kakashi Hatake? So cool.* and he just kinda went "yeah. Like him. I get that a lot."

Idk there's a thought there but my brain is a bit half cooked rn

I got a cool idea for wizard Kakashi au.

Basically Kakashi is the wizard who spends his times learning/ practicing spells and using his magic to protect his land and eliminate threats. He's an incredibly fast learner and prodigy of the mystic arts, but due to his age/ inexperience, he doesn't have the stamina to use all the spells he wants.

Rin is a Cleric, who spends her time ensuring Kakashi does not DIE FROM RUNNING OUT OF MANA (his survival is her full time job 😮‍💨), and ensuring both members of the team don't exert themselves. She ensures the team is healed up.... and she May or may not control a giant 3 tailed turtle monster that has been locked away inside her body... that may or may not be trying to force its way out of her and destroy the world. (Based on what plot you want to go with.)

Obito is a Mage, who had to study/ learn to awaken the source of his magic before he had full access to it. Said power is located in his eyes and becomes fully active when they turn red, but has a bit of a cost whether temporary blindness due to over use or something else, so he tries to use potions/ magical artifacts before resorting to them. He excels in nature powers illusion magic fire is his goto!).

And Gai is a cursed. He has outstanding magic inside him, but can't access it due to 8 seals that were placed on his body. When/if he releases one, he will be overwhelmed by a highly concentrated source of magic, that will spill out on him and force him to lash out until he's run out of mana. This will lead him to injuring himself and being completely drained, and is there is anyone unlucky enough to be in his vacinity when these seals break, they will be a target to the unruly, uncontrolled magic. He's basically something between a walking bomb and a magic hulk. And if all 8 seals on him are ever removed, he will die. (When one seal breaks, its permanent. And each seal holds back more magic than the last and has more devastating consequences).

So he became a great fighter! And his goal is to find someone to help him remove his curse and get his magic under control or removed. One day he would like to live his life without the fear of being a ticking time bomb, especially since its said that the longer his magic is sealed away, the stronger/ worse his magic will be when released. And there's no way to know if his seals will hold forever.

I love the idea of Kakashi being so enthralled with learning new spells that he doesn’t slow down to think ‘hey, i’m not really at a level to handle all of these spells. Some of them are kind of over my mana cap’

He does not care. He wants to learn. He craves learning.

And Obito getting his powers in his eyes seems kind of fitting, though i’d give him less ‘mastery over illusion’ and more ‘mastery over the mind’ since the genjutsu we see Obito use most often are to control other people (like the 4th mizukage) l. Man can convince a person to do something they usually wouldn’t, and he doesn’t even have to utter a spell to do it.

Rin also has a lot of trickery magic. Spells that seem like one thing but turn around to be something completely different, catching her opponent off guard. Or just general trap types of spells that she loves to use

As for Gai, i love the idea of his powers but i think given his personality, Gai would find hope in his powers/a use for them. Like, will they harm him to unlock? Yes. But it’s powerful magic that he can use to protect his precious people and that’s important to him. Plus if he puts in the work he can maybe figure out a way to have more control over WHEN the seal is broken, so he can choose to unlock later levels when he really needs to in order to protect people (like maybe unlocking his seventh seal in order to protect Kakashi, or to help fight a threat that looks like it might defeat him at the level of magic he’s at)

4. If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?

dragon age 2, absolutely and without question that is his second home....

a city in bondage, people living in fear of demons and blood magic, law enforcement as an ever-present threat, and religion and religious institutions under direct assault.... it's perfect....

I had this whole idea for a quest involving raymond as an npc where, long story short, Raymond is employed by the Hawke family to prepare Leandra's body. Shit gets weird when the champion receives only ashes and not a lot of them, and if you choose to investigate, you can confront Raymond in his da2 reused level asset mortuary. I thought it would be cool if the player (with some companion/story influence) could decide what to do with him after discovering he's a blood mage who turned to that kind of magic to keep himself safe (at the cost of attracting demons and accidentally creating abominations/living corpses)

24. What other character from another fandom of yours that reminds you of them?

I honestly have no idea like. I've never seen anyone so trapped and maladjusted while also filling and subverting the 'mentor' role in a heroes journey in my life fr.

he's a punching bag and a mentor flop like kakashi, he's clinging to control like astarion, he's trapped in his own mistakes like solas, he's so divorced like cypher, like idk man. on top of all of that he is the laborer of all time and also a pawn and also a very classic serial killer
