I don't feel like digging up my previous notes on the subject but I was thinking about how to smoosh Naruto founders guys and FF14 together and the results are mostly inconclusive but I do think that if I don't let the Uchiha keep the sharingan the next funniest thing is the entire family is prone to awakening the Echo for better or worse. (Tobirama is getting cast as the Exarch so he gets the Allagan eye backstory but I was thinking it'd be funny if "Uchiha have a higher than average concentration of Echo guys" is somehow also Allagan magical bioengineering bullshit bc up to a certain point the Echo provides protection against primal corruption and the Allagans were all for fucking around and finding out re: primals)

....still trying to decide if everyone is getting swapped out or if you have the ff14 guys also running around in this joint to some extent bc I still think Madara would have a fun time if you dropped him into an arena with FF14 Susano’o or Sadu...

I was also contemplating Ascians...I still think Madara is the most obvious choice for Emet, but I had a conversation that offered up Izuna as Emet which has me thinkin....one possibility is Madara as a former ascian who died and entered the lifestream and got reincarnated so Izuna takes up the work in his place (other possible ascians are Zetsu and Obito maybe...?) There's the thing about aetheric density messing with the ability to manipulate dynamis but hmm will keep chewing on it

Objectively the change to superbolide makes it more usable for most players bc you aren't quite as fucked but dropping to 50% is not as funny as dropping to 1 hp and hoping that your healer is paying attention (one time I accidentally did a perfectly timed benediction, very fun) & also the joke doesn't quite hit the same but anyway this was a roundabout way of saying that im thinking about the LEAF FC

ALSO ok no memory if i babbled about this before but tho the focus of the drk madara fic is "I make his Fray/Myste equivalent bug him until he makes better life choices maybe", the part of my brain that enjoys ship is like

what if......ship.......I have multiship brain but I think the most sensible option here is probably low key mada/hika or md/tb and im entertained trying to figure how Madara's darkside would behave (md/hs maybe also an option but ranking in order of preferences rn)

.....I don't think it would happen so much as the stage is set for things to happen later but (incomprehensible noise) the appeal of a piece of his soul running around and interacting with people, you know. I think Fray/Myste has a consistent appearance but I still like the idea of the perception of him changing as things go on

Gently poking a draft for the drk/naruto crossover fic and realizing I might have to include Hagoromo and the first thing I think is oh man, is it gonna be like trying to write Urianger (maybe?)

been climbing up the walls over how I think the Echo and Ninshu are just similar enough to be compatible HAHA

Also Obito's excuse for being able to briefly pop out of purgatory is “chakra is energy that connects two worlds” so this is how im saying the Lifestream exists....idk what I'd do with that so it is just a fun fact

And I wrote somewhere that I think chakra and aether are close enough to be the same thing (am going with the idea that Naruto planet had chakra already and Kaguya's chakra & the god tree has been added to it so the overall density is higher than usual from an outsider pov—or maybe it's just more concentrated in certain places? Idk the aether of Narutoland is weird to an outsider from FF is what I'm getting at)

And this makes it tricky for the WOL to use magic in Narutoland unless he wants to drain himself, because the aether moves differently/is just different enough (if he had more time he would eventually figure it out but alas)

AND I am still thinking about my other post where I think for this drk fic specifically, Kaguya's will manifestation is very close to how drk can manifest their darkside HAHA Idk how to use it but I'm still chewing on it....the Uchiha being really predisposed to having their darkside go off the rails....Zetsu being Kaguya's darkside that has lost their way....

I think the main thing is I'm worried I'm too soft to pull this off HAHA local guy struggles with conflict. Gonna try but im like bro help

gently chewing on the headcanon/implication that FF14 white mage needs a certain amount of emotional stability (raya-o saying that anger and fear are anathema to whm's existence—this is in the context of keeping calm and keeping the elementals of the Shroud calm but? Maybe?)

I think it would be tasty...a mini arc where a white mage struggles with healing in the depths of Heavensward emotional trauma/the dark knight arc especially if you factor in The Vault

very specific joke I want to make in the LEAF FC AU (Obito and Kakashi are in a party doing Castrum Fluminis for either msq or mount farming and Tsukuyomi does the "oh, it's going to be a long night" voice line and Obito is just like. mood.)

gently cackling to myself because i accidentally got attached to the "Danzo had a doomed one-sided crush on Kagami" headcanon and then it upgraded itself to "Danzo got past his one-sided crush on Kagami by assuming Kagami is straight, BUT Kagami's spouse is this nonbinary person who presents masculine often enough that he wrongly assumes they're a man and the corner of his brain that still likes Kagami is mad jealous about it"

Danzo was going to be jealous ANYWAY but now the tiny part of him that is still in love with that boy is like, what if he had a chance back then!! (He did not, not really.) I assume he does eventually get clarification on their gender but I don't know how well he would understand it haha, I guess it depends on how shitty I feel like making him be...

(The spouse is a friendly arranged marriage with Kagami and they get along well enough to be happy which, like, as a friend Danzo should appreciate, BUT)

and then lately I was also thinking about the concept of Sai being a secret Uchiha, and I forget the exact reasoning in my head, but I was thinking of sliding him into the family tree as one of Shisui's direct cousins (altho it was suggested that we just straight up make him Shisui's little brother, kidnapped after Kurama destroyed the village) and like, if one goes with the idea that Danzo had a hand in Kagami's death and stole his eyes, then good god this crusty old man has menaced the entire family line HAHA,

I like the idea that Danzo's just, like, weirdly.....not sure if the word is entitled or proprietary or what, but he's just like. Around. In this little headcanon of mine, Kagami's partner picked up on his strange vibes and never quite trusts Danzo, but never has enough reason to chase him away either, and his political position makes it kinda tricky to obviously snub him, so they just tolerate his existence and wait to see if he steps far enough out of line for them to retaliate. There is some odd tension between them but idk if they would allow anything to Happen.

And also thinking about, like, imagine being Kagami's kid(s) and your dad's friends are the Hokage, some elders, and this one guy who's weirdly intense about your dad.....

I'm not sure how I'd have Kagami be here, because there's something fun about him being aware of Danzo's feelings and choosing not to know about it. But also the idea of him being truly oblivious would be kinda funny...

And if I go with "Danzo is really weird about Kagami and anyone related to Kagami" then it adds a little something to him picking up an Uchiha Sai who is one of Kagami's grandkids, because I've seen a couple people with the idea that he would try to mold the "perfect Uchiha" under his direct command, without fully understanding how ROOT training and emotional suppression would fuck with the sharingan...Kagami is one of the "good Uchiha" that Tobirama trusted, so maybe his descendants would be suitable agents to do Danzo's bidding for the sake of the village... (weird old man Naruto-verse logic about bloodlines that I can't fully articulate)

uhhhh tldr. Danzo shitty self-assigned grand-uncle/grandpa being entitled towards kids who are Not his kids to raise; I don't know if Sai would even be aware of this family history/connection and I don't know if all the details would come up in any story, but I like it enough to use it for AU purposes I think. I'll ponder it.

I was thinking about the Uchiha Cousins AU (where some of the cousins are spared and Sasuke is not left alone) and one of the cousins is leaning towards being a medic & I think it'd be cute if Sasuke also picks up healing (he's still got that DPS mindset but like, the ability to heal himself can only be an asset right—)

(Ongoing argument amongst the Uchiha cousins bc Sasuke doesn't want them in harms way and they don't want him trying to pursue revenge by himself so the LEAST he can do is learn to patch himself up—)

I gotta chew on it but like. It's cute. I was thinking of Sasuke, Sakura, and Uchiha cousin all bonding over suffering through their studies together & maybe we can rope Naruto into it too...Team 7 gets into so many Situations that being able to heal each other would be useful (tho Sakura is still the best medic among them & Naruto's chakra control struggles are an issue)

(To be clear the Uchiha Cousin isn't on Team 7 as of the current notes in my head, but they are familiar with each other)

If I can swing it then Sasuke is not defecting from Konoha in the cousins AU but if I lose control of my life I think it'd be a little interesting for a medic Sasuke and Karin to interact...

He doesn't need to give up on revenge entirely but he's taking a more scenic route maybe...

I’ve been poking my FF14/Naruto fusion thing and not sure if I’m going around in a circle + I forgot what I mentioned before and don't feel like looking for it because I'm the writer here + I’m chewing on background set up instead of the plot because I’m stuck again so UHH I wanna blab about it. This is a rubber duck moment so it's going under a cut

So FF14 has a class called Dark Knight and DRKs have a thing called darkside which is, like, exactly what it sounds like and very self-centered as its focus is helping the player character in ways that it thinks are necessary but which may or may not conflict with what the player would want (depending on how you view your own chara). Jokingly I refer to it as the self-care demon. They make a point of saying everyone has a little darkness in them and it’s quite healthy if it’s balanced, but if you try to draw on it without knowing what you’re doing it might hurt etc

And then I was like you know, it’s not the same thing but if I’m squishing the two canons together, then maybe Zetsu is akin to Kaguya’s darkside gone off the shits because of how long she’s been trapped and the depths of her feeling at the time. The only thing Zetsu really cares about is Kaguya and Zetsu has held to that throughout all time without straying at all, so?

Anyway running with the idea that FF14’s Darkside/Living Shadow is a similar phenomena to Kaguya manifesting her will in Zetsu, and also running with the idea that humans all have the potential to do any superpower she did, even if they don’t actually know how, if I go with “the potential to manifest darkside already exists within people,” FF14’s darkside is powered by emotion, so maybe the Uchiha are closest to being able to use it since they are explicitly the Deep In Their Feelings clan even if they act repressed about it somtimes? Though idk how aware they are of Will Manifesting being a thing you can actually Do. IDK Madara kinda rolled with Zetsu popping up and going “I’m your manifested will!” and everyone else believed it too so? Unsure??? ANYWAY 

I was thinking since the FF14 darkside is a really self-centered being that focuses on protecting the self whether or not it hurts or distresses other people, and its source of strength is emotion, and the Curse of Hatred as described sounds like it's just love and grief focused selfishly on the individual and their in-group, and FF14 raises the possibility that you can lose control of your darkside if you have untrained potential for it,

What if, for the crossover, the Curse of Hatred bullshit is partly from the Uchiha getting possessed by their own darkside by reaching for it unconsciously in their worst moments, and them going off the rails is partly because their darkside is trying to help them deal with whatever’s hurting them in, potentially, the most explosive way possible? FF14’s example of a darkside is a specific type of angry, but the quest plot is really shaped by what happens to the player character in the main story, so I think that gives me the wiggle room to say that what the darkside does is shaped by whatever your subconscious thinks you need or want, so that’s part of why outcomes regarding the Curse of Hatred can vary...a lot of darksides maybe would be super fucking mad about whatever trauma their person is experiencing but since everyone deals with problems in their own way, some darksides are like, more pragmatic or more focused on their person getting better than on vengeance or whatever the case may be. Darkside cares first and foremost about their creator, so sometimes it fights them and sometimes it treats them with a kind of gentleness.

I don’t know if I like having the Curse of Hatred be an actual magical thing instead of a metaphor, because really the only thing that makes “loves so much they go evil from grief and pain” and "our secret motto is getting revenge on the people that hurt us" special for the Uchiha is the number of superpowers they have access to...like. it's just a people being people thing

got off topic UHHH technically anyone could make a darkside and use it. It’s just that Naruto canon goes out of its way to single out the Uchiha feeling things so deeply and their magic eyeballs being powered by Love and also Trauma, so I'm letting them be especially compatible with Dark Knight haha

also every time I read the Curse of Hatred wiki page I’m like (face in hands) what. what do you mean the Uchiha special way is something specifically selfish while the Senju special way is specifically selfless, this is kinda awkward as hell FACE IN MY HANDS, curse of hatred/will of fire are both about love and the only thing is if it's focused inward or outward, which like yea a love that only focuses inward and is willing to burn down the rest of the world isn't great but. why is it a specific thing that has a name. I know the Senju are the Good Guy Clan and the Uchiha have a disproportionate number of antagonists as their members but

The "Zetsu is akin to a Darkside" thing is because I was like, the resolution of the DRK quests, to me, is often the power of Understanding (after having beat up the requisite bosses because this is an MMO and fighting your inner darkness is a staple) so...I don't know...coming to an understanding with Kaguya by fighting the thing she created in fear and despair (but also Zetsu is a little bastard creature so idk. violence!!)

Also I was trying to decide how come Madara's darkside would be trying to help him get better instead of enabling him with regard to being angry at the entire world... I'm still chewing on it but maybe some of it is that it recognizes Zetsu's influence as something foreign and detrimental, and it wants to protect him from Zetsu but needs him to get to a place where he's not susceptible to all the worst impulses that Zetsu preys on?

Covering my face with my hands I was thinking about the ff14 naruto crossover (the LEAF FC) and how I have Kagami as a dancer main for the fun of it & then I started thinking about how it'd be kind of fun to put him in my dancer glams (one of which is very leggy) and then....

...other braincell kind of wants young Danzo to be tormented by the silly fanservice glams HAHA, i got attached to the idea of his doomed youthful gay crush!! we'll see if any of this makes it onto paper.

i still haven't read all the arknights stories so I might be off on the lore but I've been slowly chewing on arknights/naruto and I'm like. ok, I have many options for what people get but one that keeps coming back to me is Madara & Izuna sarkaz and then Hashirama & Tobirama sankta (because of the lore where sarkaz and sankta have a common ancestor) (also, some of the sarkaz have really uhhh terrifying blood magic things going on over there??? what the fuck) (also, I like the idea of fallen sankta Tobirama....cut off from the sankta empathy thing and has all kinds of rumors following him as to what happened)

the only thing throwing me off is I think I prefer hashirama as a deer or a dragon instead of angel-themed, so (thinking emoji) I don't know...something to ponder.... (also I think Izuna liberi is very cute. I could maybe make him a banshee sarkaz for the head wings and horns?) (Tobirama lupo or dragon or aegir still on the table)

(Mito aegir?? Arknights ocean is super mega haunted to the point where beach episodes don't actually happen on the ocean HAHA lest you be taken by the seaborn) (Tobirama color scheme fits in with the abyssal hunters coincidentally)

Gently chewing on the Uchiha cousins AU and I like the thought of someone trying to tell one of the kids that their behavior is unbecoming of an Uchiha and then the cousins all look at each other and then look at Sasuke because they're all that's left of the Uchiha now and that means they get to decide what's becoming or not (and Sasuke is technically the boss of them even if they're all young enough that it doesn't mean much yet)

If I was more clever about plotting I think it'd be fun....they think that they can start over with the Uchiha survivors wrt making them be what they want because the Uchiha are all children who weren't yet super educated in clan culture and tradition, but it doesn't go to plan...

Their names are Suzu and Suzume (half au ra, half hyur mix) and they call each other Suzu-nii and Suzu-nee when they want to be annoying. Suzu was supposed to be a one-off character but I think he's just another for the WOL pile now HAHA we'll see. my fucking long warrior of light index

also for the drk fic, boy who is surely just an ordinary boy! came out younger than intended but I kinda like the thought of his apparent age being a little fuzzy when people aren't paying attention...not sure if I'll use it but it's in my mind
