Mashle: Magic and Muscles EP#02 - Mash Burnedead and the Mysterious Maze: Brad provides Mash a fake Mark so he can attend Easton Academy's entrance exam. Examiner Claude dislikes Mash, mistaking his airheadedness for laziness. Mash passes the magical demonstrations, confusing Claude that Mash can somehow lift boulders and run on water without using spells. For the last test the applicants must escape a trap filled maze. Mash encounters Lemon, a shy girl who sabotages Mash on purpose. Lemon is confronted by a monster but Mash saves her, reassures her, then escapes the maze by simply smashing through the walls. Lemon, having mistaken Mash's reassurance and kindness as a marriage proposal, reveals Claude took advantage of her poverty to force her to sabotage Mash. Claude is disciplined by Headmaster Wahlberg who gives Mash a test of resolve; falsely suggesting Regro would die if he failed. Mash allows himself to be injured to save Regro, passing the exam. Mash meets his roommate Finn, who is wary of someone as odd as Mash, but does helpfully explain that to become a Divine Visionary Mash must collect the most reward coins among their year group by consistently scoring the highest on exams, research projects, club activities and even popularity with classmates.
Invincible Fight Girl EP#04 - The Way of the World: Andy battles with Mbrandon and with Mikey's help, she almost wins, but he draws her into a trap. While Mikey's dad is overjoyed, Andy, who is helped by Craig, tells Mikey to not give up on his dream, making him think back to what his mother once said to him. However, it appears that Mikey doesn't leave and decides to stay with his family. Later, Andy tells Craig she needs to find a teacher, but Craig says he was inspired by her, and offers to be her manager, but she walks away. She comes back when he claims he will get Poblana to train him. Following this, Mikey appears to the surprise of Craig and Andy, and he suggests coming with her, which she accepts.

“There's nothing guaranteeing tomorrow. We could die today or we could die 60 years from now. Either way there's never enough time to do everything we want. With that in mind...I'm gonna...” -          Akira Tendou, Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead (Ep. 01)
The Toonami Trending Rundown for March 30-31, 2024.
With a zombie apocalypse striking Tokyo, Akira is freed from the toxic environment of his former job to complete his bucket list of things he wants to do, as Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead makes its premiere on Toonami.
On Twitter, #Toonami trended in the United States alongside Ninja Kamui, Zom 100, and Lycoris Recoil. #Toonami also trended on Tumblr.
This past Monday marked the 12th anniversary of “The Night no 90’s Kid Slept.” When on April Fools Day 2012, what was originally thought was another rerun of The Room turned out to be a sudden revival of Toonami after being cancelled for over four years. Thanks to incredible fan support, the block would be resurrected for real nearly two months later, which has now surpassed the lifespan of its original 1997-2008 run. Here’s to many more years of Toonami to come.

Last week, Toho Animation released a new trailer for the upcoming 7th season of My Hero Academia, which will begin airing on May 4th. You can see an English translated version of the trailer below. In addition, four special recap episodes titled My Hero Academia: Memories, will be airing weekly beginning on April 6 and through the weeks up to the season premiere. As with previous seasons, Crunchyroll will simulcast the new season and will be producing dubs for season 7.

Toho has also announced this morning that a new My Hero Academia film is also in the works. Titled “You’re Next”, the film will be premiering in Japanese theaters on August 2, 2024. Plans for a release stateside have yet to be revealed as of this writing.

On Tuesday, the anime world bid adieu to Funimation, as Sony has shut down the FunimationNow service (with funimation.com now redirecting to crunchyroll.com), completing its merger with Crunchyroll. Funimation is one of Toonami's long time media partners, going back as far as when DBZ first aired on the block in 1999.
And on that note, if you missed it, I posted an Op-Ed this week titled "The 2020’s Anime and Streaming Service Bubble Burst," as I look into the controversies regarding the Warner Bros Discovery merger, the Funimation-Crunchyroll merger, their respective effects on Toonami, and how what's going on with both could lead to another anime bubble burst, and one for streaming services overall.

First Impressions - Summer 2018
We’ve got another busy season here, so let’s get right into it.
I won’t be covering Attack on Titan Season 3 or Overlord Season 3, because I haven’t seen either of those shows’ previous seasons, and I also won’t be covering Free! Dive to the Future even though I want to, because Funimation still has yet to release the prequel movie that sets up this third season and I want to go in with full context to something as surprisingly intelligent as this franchise is.
I also won’t cover Sirius the Jaeger, High Score Girl or Back Street Girls because they’ve been doomed by Netflix to not be cared about by people who watch seasonal shows. (This hurts, I was really excited for Sirius.) Zoids Wild went completely unlicensed, but considering the previous show aired on Toonami a thousand years ago, I’ll be keeping an eye on it.
My favorite premiere of the season was Planet With, because pretty much anything that reminds me of Punch Line is probably gonna get a pass in my book, and this brand of weirdness that just keeps me guessing right from moment one is right up my alley.
To recap, I also made it past the first episodes of: * Angels of Death * Cells at Work! * Grand Blue Dreaming * Hanebado! * Banana Fish * Seven Senses of the Re’Union (!) * Happy Sugar Life * Chio’s School Road (!) * Harukana Receive * Holmes of Kyoto (!) * Angolmois: Record of Mongol Invasion * Phantom in the Twilight (!) * Revue Starlight
Anything with an (!) next to it is more or less on probation. If it hasn’t either maintained its quality or hooked me completely in 3 episodes (as is tradition), I’ll be dropping them. I’m also watching Master of Ragnarok and the Blesser of Einherjar, but explicitly not recommending it. We’ll see if I can make it through the whole thing.
We also have several holdovers from last season that are finishing up: * Major 2nd * Lupin III Part 5 * Steins;Gate 0 * My Hero Academia Season 3
The last show was Persona 5 the Animation but I’m now officially dropping that one because I don’t really see a need to go back to it, the conversation around it pretty much stuck with “you don’t need to watch it if you’ve played the game” and that’s exactly the impression I got.
Speaking of dropping, I put down Asobi Asobase and Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs for simply not being my thing, but the shows that I truly didn’t consider to be worth my or anyone else’s time were: * Island * Dropkick on My Devil! * Lord of Vermilion: The Crimson King * Music Girls * The Thousand Noble Musketeers
The worst premiere I saw this season was far and away How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord!, where I didn’t even last five minutes because the show jumped directly off a cliff into the bounds of tasteless, shameless, and really specific pandering. Why it’s the fourth most popular show of the season (above every single show I kept aside from Angels of Death) I do not understand.
Overall, this is looking like another promising season. To those wondering, I haven’t totally finished spring shows yet, so those reviews should be coming soon. Keep an eye out. I’m also going to make another attempt at weekly coverage for Revue Starlight and Angels of Death (the least and most popular shows in my list), so the next thing you see should be my review of episode 2 of Angels. See you soon!

Toonami Night Review: A Night of Fun, Feels, and a Little Bit of Lewdness.
Last week was another enjoyable run on the block. We started off with some on Dragon Ball and Black Clover, followed by our favorite characters in Stardust Crusaders and Gundam IBO kicking ass! Then came of course Hunter x Hunter, providing once again the feels for the night, which has become weekly since we began getting further down the Chimera Ant arc. After the buzzkill that was Hunter x Hunter, Naruto Shippuden brought the fun back to the party with a nice filler episode to cheer us up.
Once that was over, things got really steamy on Outlaw Star, giving us a lewd, but really funny episode for the night. Everyone watching was looking forward to this one, considering the reasons why it never aired on Toonami before, and they weren’t disappointed one bit. If there was ever a reason for Toonami to be on Adult Swim, this was one of those reasons.
Moving on, Space Dandy brought on the feels once again on the block. But unlike the feels we got from Hunter x Hunter, it was the good, heartfelt kind. We continued getting more of that in Cowboy Bebop, before we got the sad kind of feels one last time on Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG. Geez, way to end the run with another buzzkill. Hopefully Ghost in the Shell with end the run tonight on a good note this time around.
Now that the general summary for last week’s run is over, it’s time to get down on the recap of last week’s shows, in twenty words or less!
Dragon Ball Super: While Bulma fixes the time machine, Future Trunks meets with Gohan, and has a wonderful evening meeting the latter’s family.
DBZ Kai: With Gohan losing to a more powerful Evil Buu, Old Kai helps Goku return to the world of the living.
Black Clover: Getting rewarded for a job well done, Asta and the rest of the Black Bulls go on a shopping trip.
Stardust Crusaders: With some reluctant help from the new canine Stand User, Iggy, Jotaro defeats the blind enemy Stand User N’Doul.
Gundam IBO: As Orga and Tekkadan get their revenge on Jasley for killing Lafter, McGillis begins his revolution within Gjallarhorn on Earth.
Hunter x Hunter: Encountering Neferpitou, Kite holds off the deadly Chimera Ant for Gon and Killua to escape. He then dies soon after.
Naruto Shippuden: The Filler Arc continues as Neji tells a story about himself and his team saving Hinata from enemy ninjas.
Outlaw Star: While hunting for more Caster shells, Gene encounters pervy sages, steamy hot springs, beautiful nude women, and a clumsy assassin.
Space Dandy: Dandy helps a young Gentooan girl, Adélie, find her grandpa, showing that he has a heart of gold after all.
Cowboy Bebop: Jet helps Mei-Fa, a feng shui expert, find a sun stone that will lead them to the latter’s missing father.
GitS: SAC 2nd GIG: While the Tachikomas have a philosophical debate about themselves, Section 9 stops the Tachikoma A.I. inventor from leaving the country.
And that’s a wrap for the recap! Before ending this review, there’s some things I would like to talk about, and one of them is about Outlaw Star. After checking how many episodes are left, I’ve just discovered that after tonight’s episode, there will only be two more episodes left. In other words, before the end of March, this show will have finished its run on the block. Can’t believe we’re near the end already, feels like it only a couple of months instead of seven when we started this intergalactic journey.
But of course that’s how it always is with a show on the block, time flies by so fast that you don’t realize how long it’s really been. What’s feels like a couple of weeks is actually a few months, what feels like a few months is actually almost a year, etc. etc. But I digress. Despite nearing the end of its run, I have had a blast watching Outlaw Star on Toonami, especially since this is my first time watching it. And like the recently gone Lupin the Third, I will also miss this show when it’s gone. But until then, I’m looking forward to seeing how this amazing show ends, hopefully on a great note.
Now for the other thing I would like to point out. Naturally with Outlaw Star soon to leave the block, that means there will be a change to the Toonami schedule. I have no idea what will be added to the block to replace it, or if the block will get shorter if there isn’t. But what concerns me more is that shortly after that schedule change, there will be another one soon after in a couple weeks!
Yeah, after Outlaw Star ends its run on the block, Cowboy Bebop will too two weeks after. And even more, three weeks after that, both Gundam IBO and the rerun of the first season of Space Dandy will be ending their run as well! And it doesn’t stop there! 3 weeks after that, Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex will be ending its run as well, followed by DBZ Kai a month later. To sum it all up, we’re talking constant changes to the Toonami schedule soon, and depending how it plays out, it could be good or it could be bad. Good being either more new shows and reruns to come, or bad being that the run might get quite shorter soon. Fortunately, I think it will be the former, and here’s why.
Now most of the shows ending their run on the block are in the later half of the run, and some of them are reruns. So my best bet is that they might get replaced by other old shows Toonami still has the rights too, and those old shows might go on another run on the block. There’s also a good chance some of those shows will just go on another rerun. I also have a feeling that Space Dandy might continue running on the block, since only its first season is ending two months from now, and they just might show the second one anyway to fill in the soon empty slots.
Now the only question that remains is the shows that are in the first half of the run and are not reruns. Those being DBZ Kai and Gundam IBO The first of the two to end their run will be Gundam IBO, and that will be a month or so after Outlaw Star finishes its run two weeks from now. By then there’s good chance Toonami might get a new show to replace Gundam IBO, which is most likely since we know that the second season of FLCL is supposed to come later this year. There’s also that other show that was suppose to come, but was delayed, hence how Space Dandy came back to the block.
Next will be DBZ Kai, but fortunately it will end three months after Outlaw Star’s run is over, so plenty of time to find a new show to replace it, maybe with one of the two I mentioned earlier. That, or maybe air Dragon Ball GT, though I heard that series has mixed reviews. I haven’t seen GT before, so seeing it on Toonami would be nice, but I wouldn’t mind knowing what the other watchers/live bloggers in the Toonami tumblr community would think about it.
And that’s my prediction for what’s going to happen in the coming weeks and months in term of schedule changes to the block. So far this should be accurate based on what’s already known in regards of new shows coming to the block, and how Toonami usually deals with reruns. I don’t exactly know what shows they still have the rights to, but hoping enough to keep things fresh on Toonami, and hopefully they’re old favorites we wouldn’t mind seeing again after a long time.
Well that concludes the Toonami Night Review for last week, hope this was an interesting read for you guys. Tonight’s run of Toonami will be starting soon, so don’t miss out on the fun and awesome moments that are sure to come tonight. Well maybe not when Hunter x Hunter is on, considering how bleak the current arc is at the moment, but everything else should be exciting to watch.
Until tonight’s run of Toonami, Stay Gold and see you guys later!

Toonami Weekly Recap 10/26/2024
Uzumaki EP#01: Kirie Goshima and her boyfriend Shuichi Saito live in the small, quiet Japanese town of Kurouzu-cho, which is enveloped by supernatural events involving spirals. Shuichi tells Kirie that he is concerned about the recent increase of spirals and that it is beginning to affect his father, Toshio, who has abandoned his job to obsess over them. When Kirie arrives home, she finds Toshio talking to her father about commissioning spiral pattern pottery. Later at school, Kirie and fellow classmate Azami Kurotani discuss the latter's crescent-shaped forehead scar which seems to have the ability to attract boys with whom she has crushes for. After class, Kirie introduces Azami to Shuichi at the local railway station. Shuichi becomes startled and takes Kirie away, telling her that he senses the spiral curse on the girl. Later, Kirie delivers her father's finished pottery to Toshio, who declines it as he is now interested in becoming a spiral himself. Toshio scares Kirie off by forming a spiral with his own tongue. Meanwhile, Shuichi runs into Azami who attempts to confess her feelings towards him and shows him her scar, which has now turned into a spiral. Shuichi warns Azami to leave town before she is infected by the curse. Some time later, Toshio dies and is cremated, with the cover story being that he fell down a flight of stairs. Shuichi reveals to Kirie that in actuality him and his mother discovered his body contorted into a spiral inside a drum container back at home, which crushed his bones and killed him. The crowd in attendance for the cremation become startled as Toshio's ashes rise up into the air and form a spiral and his own face. Shuichi's mother Yukie goes insane upon witnessing this and is admitted to the hospital. Back at school, another one of Kirie's classmates, a slow-moving boy named Tokuo Katayama, arrives late during a rainy day. He is bullied after gym glass by Kazuki Tsumura, who strips him naked and pulls him out into a hallway where Kirie happens to be passing by. It is revealed that there's a spiral on the boy's back. At the hospital, Yukie's mental health continues to deteriorate as she begins to fear spirals to the point where she shaved her hair and cut off her own finger and toe prints in order to avoid seeing them. Later that night, Azami tricks a classmate boy who has a crush on her named Okada into bringing Shuichi to the park so she could meet with him. Okada, feeling betrayed by Azami's promise go out on a date with him for doing this favor, rips off her hat and it is revealed that her spiral scar has now completely enveloped her head as a vortex. Okada becomes shocked upon seeing this and gets closer to her before being sucked into it. Kirie arrives as Shuichi warns her that Azami's body is starting to be consumed by her scar, which immediately proceeds to completely devour her.
Uzumaki EP#02: Katayama arrives to school late again and is noticed to have swelling from where the spiral is on his back. Elsewhere, teenage lovers Kazunori Nishiki and Yoriko Endo are hiding from their parents in an abandoned rowhouse. Following the incident at Toshio's funeral and others, Kurouzu-cho has outlawed cremation and restarted whole-body inhumations. After school in the town cemetery, Kirie and her friend Shiho Ishikawa are ambush pranked by Mitsuru Yamaguchi, nicknamed 'Jack-In-The-Box' for his trademark pop-up surprises on everyone. Yamaguchi confesses his feelings for Kirie, to which she rejects and the girls walk away. After departing from her friend, Kirie witnesses Yoriko's family assaulting Kazunori for spending time with her. Kazunori tells Kirie that their families hate each other, and as a result won't let the two come into contact. He also tells Kirie that the two are planning to run away from town soon. Later, Kirie discovers that her hair is becoming long and distorted into curls. After the class witnesses Katayama on the school's windows crawling around as a snail person, Kirie runs away during the chaos to a barber where she requests to get her hair cut. Before the barber can cut it, the hair reacts in a hostile manner in order to stop them. Kirie's hair becomes even more distorted and soon becomes the center of attention with people, which makes her friend Kyoko Sekino become jealous. Later, Yamaguchi presents Kirie with a present, to which she rejects. In an attempt to impress her, Yamaguchi runs onto the street to try and make a car stop but it instead runs over and kills him. The next day at school, everyone discovers that Tsumura has also become a snail person and they place him in the school's chicken coup with Katayama. Kyoko arrives to confront Kirie, now also with the same curled hair, in an attempt to win over classmates' attention. Shuichi arrives and stops both hairs from attacking each other, proceeding to cut all of Kirie's off. Kyoko declares herself the winner and walks off into town where her hair consumes all her energy. Tsumura and Katayama escape the coup and the two lay eggs on a local pathway. Kirie and Shuichi discover school teacher Mr. Yokota destroying the eggs before running off to see that Kazunori and Yoriko leave town safely. They meet up with the couple at the train station, but they tell them that their parents spotted them and are actively chasing them. Shuichi suggest they cut through to the beach and all four run off. Both Nishiki and Yoriko's families spot them and catch up on the beach. Refusing to be separated once again, the couple twist their bodies to intertwin with each other and crawl off into the ocean. Some time later, Kirie encounters townspeople walking in endless circles. Rumors catch on about the town lighthouse's recent reactivation at school where everyone discovers that Mr. Yokota has also turned into a snail person. Traveling home after school, Kirie's brother Mitsuo convinces her to go to the lighthouse with him as a boat had crashed into nearby rocks, with the crew having walked in circles. Mitsuo and his friends travel up into the lighthouse and Kirie follows him in. Walking up the lighthouse's stairs, Kirie discovers the corpses of men who were assigned with investigating the lighthouse's reactivation and encounter two of Mitsuo's friends who didn't go up any further upon seeing them. Kirie reaches the top where her brother and his friend are and discovers the tower's light is severely melted, realizing it becomes extremely hot when it turns on. She warns them to run back down and as they do the light goes on at sundown, burning Mitsuo's friend who failed to escape in time and injuring Kirie.
Uzumaki EP#03: Kirie is admitted to the town's hospital for her burns. Multiple pregnant women are also admitted after complaining of being sick from mosquito bites. Kirie's pregnant cousin, Keiko Nakayama, arrives and shares the same room as her due to overcrowding in the maternity ward. The next day, three patients are found dead in the hospital and appear to be completely drained of their blood. The following night, Kirie wakes up and discovers that the pregnant women are roaming the hospital and using manual hand drills to drain and suck the blood of patients. The women spot Kirie and attempt to kill her but she uses Shuichi's mosquito repellant to disperse them. Meanwhile, Yukie continues to mentally deteriorate, with her husband telling her there's a spiral in her ear during hallucinations. Fearing them, she uses a scissors to stab herself in the ear and ultimately succumbs to the injury. Some time later, Kirie and Shuichi walk the hospital hallways, seeing the newly born babies growing spiral-patterned placentas and then discovering in the doctor's surgical room that Keiko's baby has been put back into her womb. Keiko demands blood and the doctor attempts to use Kirie as a sacrifice but she dodges, killing the doctor instead. The two immediately leave the room. Kirie's family welcomes her back home from the hospital with a celebratory dinner along with Shuichi, who becomes startled after discovering her father, Yasuo Goshima, has been making spiral-patterned pottery. Shuichi breaks Yasuo's kiln, as he hears his deceased parents from within. The pottery inside disperses and the shed it's located in catches fire. Later, a typhoon descends upon the town and the eye rests over Dragonfly Pond, calling out to Kirie. She and Shuichi attempt to escape the eye but it sucks them up and drags them near the pond before dispersing. Due to damage the Goshima's household took from the storm, they move into one of the town's rowhouse. One of the neighboring tenants dies from an unknown disease. Another tenant, Mr. Wakabayashi, catches the same disease and attempts to attack Kirie outside but is hit by a tree log from another storm. Yamaguchi's corpse randomly appears, jumping thanks to the car suspension spring inside his torso.

Dr. Stone: New World (Treasure Island Arc) EP#45 (10) - Science Wars: Senku is revealed to have disguised a Rochelle salt sound transmitting crystal and a copper wire antenna as an earring, allowing him to send instructions from his wireless telephone into Kohaku’s ear, though she can’t send replies. For that, he intends to recreate the radio controlled drone by combining a bamboo frame with four plastic propellers and electromagnetically powered motors controlled by radio signals. Inside the citadel of interconnected tree houses Kohaku sneaks around and finds something important. They are informed by an elder wife they must train for a week before meeting the Master. Senku manages to send a basic radio controlled car to Kohaku so she can send back a written message. As none of them have learned to write yet Kohaku sends Senku a confusing drawing. Toonami Weekly Recap 09/09/2023
Attack on Titan: The Final Season Part 3 (The Rumbling Arc) EP#29 - The Final Chapters (Part 1): Chapter 1 - The Rumbling: The Rumbling continues, with the Colossal Titans killing countless people, including Ramzi and his brother and Grisha's parents, and destroying civilizations all over the world. Meanwhile, the ship carrying the scouts and warriors arrive at Odiha. Thinking her father is already dead, Annie decides to stay behind on the ship with Gabi, Falco, Yelena, and the Azumabito, while the remaining warriors, scouts, and Onyankopon take the flying boat to stop Eren. The next day, just as the group are about to take off, Floch, having survived the battle at the port, damages the hull of the flying boat before being killed by Mikasa. However, before the flying boat can be properly repaired, the Rumbling arrives. Hange appoints Armin as the next commander of the Survey Corps before going up against the Colossal Titans alone, buying the others just enough time to get the aircraft off the ground. Hange is welcomed to the afterlife by Erwin, Moblit, and the other deceased scouts. They assure Hange that the duty as commander has been fulfilled.
Chapter 2 - Sinners: En route to Eren, the scouts and warriors discuss plans to confront him, with Armin still believing in a peaceful resolution. During their conversation, Eren suddenly brings them into the paths dimension, explaining that in order to stop the Rumbling, they must kill him. He further elaborates that he will not take away their freedom to do so, just as he has the freedom to keep moving forward with it. Back on the ship, Falco reveals to Annie that his Titan might have the ability to fly. Many refugees from Liberio, including the Warriors' families, escape to Fort Salta, a Marleyan base. As they arrive, they see a number of airships launching an assault on Eren and his Titans. However, the airships are quickly destroyed by the Beast Titan, which materialized on Eren's skeletal form, leaving everyone utterly hopeless. Just then, the flying boat arrives and the scouts and warriors jump from the aircraft. Pieck and Reiner transform, with the latter managing to pin the Beast Titan down. Armin calls out to Eren, asking what about him is free.

Toonami Weekly Recap 09/30/2023
FLCL Shoegaze EP#01 - Furu-Bari (Full Barricade): A boy named Masaki has felt like a loner throughout his childhood. Ever since smoke rose from a giant clothes-iron shaped building on the outskirts of town, Masaki started to see glowing, green ghosts everywhere he went, in addition to a strange purple bird-like ghost on top of Tsuganei Tower. However, no one else saw them and treated him as a weirdo, causing him to be estranged from his peers. After transferring to his high school, he met an eccentric girl named Harumi who entertained his sketches of ghost sightings. One day, Masaki got sick of his situation and decided to make a bomb with supplies from the school chemistry lab. Though Harumi caught him before he could get started, she decided to help him and went to a local hardware store to continue gathering supplies. Some time later, the two of them decided to detonate their bomb inside the tower, with Masaki hoping to find the truth behind the giant bird only he can see. The Tower got the attention of not just the police, but also Bureau of Interstellar Immigration Chief Kanda and Kana Koumoto. When Masaki and Harumi reach the top of the tower, they find a completely empty room, making their effort seem pointless. Harumi decides to go ahead and light the fuse for the bomb, but Masaki gets angry at her, setting off an NO Channel reaction that lights the fuse itself. Masaki tries to throw the bomb away, and ends up blowing up a part of the roof, revealing a portal into Imaginary Space.
