"The missing piece...is her. It's everything she's been through. Everything she's done, all expressed in a singular moment." - Scouter, Invincible Fight Girl (Ep. 10)
The Toonami Trending Rundown for the month of December 2024. The better cartoon show brought an end to 2024 by showcasing the second half of Invincible Fight Girl’s first season, among other great moments.
For the night of December 14, #Toonami trended in the USA on Twitter alongside Invincible Fight Girl, Mashle, and Blue Exorcist. A week later on the 21st, #Toonami trended in the USA alongside Invincible Fight Girl for its season finale. Meanwhile for the final Toonami Rewind on December 27, fans were able to send off the throwback block with a bang as #ToonamiRewind trended in the US.
Invincible Fight Girl’s creators are hoping to see a continuation of the show, though Cartoon Network has neither confirmed or denied if the series will be renewed or will be canceled. Hopefully a second season will be the case, but all we can do for now is to keep supporting the show, its creators, and Toonami as a whole and checking out reruns on Max and Adult Swim/Toonami and on on-demand, official digital downloads, and physical media when and if that becomes available.

The feature for December 28 included a new Toonami AMV titled “Power Up.” You can check it out below.
youtube
Kodansha has revealed a new trailer and new information for the upcoming third season of Fire Force. Season 3 will be split into two cours, the first premiering in Japan and on Crunchyroll on April 2025, while the second premieres in January 2026.
youtube
Studio MAPPA also released some new information regarding Lazarus, including a key visual and the theme music for Shinichiro Watanabe’s newest series. The opening theme is titled Vortex by Kamasi Wasahington, while the ending theme is Lazarus by The Boo Radleys. The Japanese cast was also revealed, starring:
Mamoru Miyano as Axel
Makoto Furukawa as Doug
Maaya Uchida as Christine
Yūma Uchida as Leland
Manaka Iwami as Eleina
Megumi Hayashibara as Hersch
Akio Ōtsuka as Abel
Kōichi Yamadera as Skinner
Adult Swim has announced that the series would be coming to Toonami this April 2025.

Unfortunately, as 2024 comes to a close, Adult Swim has decided to pull the plug on Toonami Rewind as the Friday afternoon throwback lineup will be retired come January, with said timeslots being given back to Checkered Past. No official reason was given why Toonami Rewind was canceled. Alongside potential issues with Toonami bringing in additional programming for Rewind, it is likely that Adult Swim is seeing a change in strategy with the network inking a deal with Disney to bring Family Guy back to the late-night programming block for the first time since 2021. It’s not all lost, however, as the Rewind lineup would be “merged back” into the Saturday night Toonami lineup, with Naruto starting over from the beginning starting January 11th, while Sailor Moon will return on January 25th.
Until next time, we wish you all a Happy New Year, congratulations to the Los Angeles Galaxy for winning the MLS Cup and here’s to 2025.

Toonami Trending Rundown for January 13-14, 20-21, and 27-28, 2024.
“I love how quiet a big city is right before it’s set in motion. Peaceful, safe, beautiful Tokyo. Japanese people have a great respect for rules and are always kind and gentle. In the constitutional nation of Japan and its capital city Tokyo, there are no dangers. We cannot allow the existence of those that disrupt our society. In fact, they can’t have existed at all. Custom Toonami Block Week 73 Rundown
Code Geass: Lelouch and co. are still stuck in China and Xingke’s flipping out because the Chinese assholes are gonna kill the Empress and go with someone less problematic for their political marriage to Britannia’s creepily overaged prince. However Lelouch pulls out a Knightmare that’s basically the Twink version of the Gawain and busts everyone up as well as pulling a Father Cornello on them and letting the people know they’re all elitst 1% assholes that don’t care about them, which I suspect all countries probably know about their leaders but it sucks to hear it in a recording so riots show up all over China and CC Geass Flashes Anya to take her out so Britannia has to back out because the Chinese Hierarchy are now the least popular people in the world. So Xingke gets to be with his Empress and joins the Black Knights but Dietard wants the Empress to marry someone on their side so they can basically do the asshole move Britannia just tried to do but for them. All the girls are like ‘hey no’ and Lelouch is like “Oh hey Tamaki buddy, let’s go talk and get me the fuck out of here” so before Lelouch actually has to give Tamaki more lines and elevate him beyond the Black Knight’s Yamacha Shirley calls and Lelouch just straight up asks Shirley about love in a weirdly forced series of circumstance. But Shirley’s like “Yeah don’t fuck with love, don’t you love anyone?” and Lelouch is like “Yeah I do, Nunally!” and I don’t think that’s at all what Shirley meant but it does mean Lelouch sees that fighting for something beyond politics is powerful and agrees to not marry off the twelve year old girl, so that’s good. Lelouch decides to return home while they hunt down the Geass cult which is in China for some reason despite that being one of the like two places on earth Britannia doesn’t control and the Geass Cult largely being a Britannian affair. Meanwhile Sayoko is basically a Lelouch Vtuber at this point with her insanely accurate Lupin III mask of Lelouch and kisses Shirley so Shirley’s a little bit more gay than she was before and is not sure how to feel about that. When she’s about to tell the real Lelouch he kisses like a girl, Anya and Gino show up because we’re retreading the whole ‘sleeping with the enemy at school’ thing from the first season except with way less interesting enemies. Also the preview for the next episode is Lelouch dramatically talking about enemies finding out he’s Zero overtop footage of Shirley and Milly absolutely naked in a batthouse scene so I think we know what kind of episode that’ll be.
Inuyasha: The Panther Demon filler concludes with everyone meeting at the site where the Panther Master is being revived behind a strong barrier, if only someone just got a barrier upgrade to their sword, oh wait. But yeah everyone manages to free the hostages so even though Kagome’s jewel shards revives the Panther Master he’s still a zombie without a sacrifice which is weird since Naraku managed to completely revive the Band of Seven with one jewel shard each from skeletons and the Panther Lord has three shards so idk the rules here but yeah he steals the souls of his own men to revive and is Wind Scar Proof because he just is. It’s pretty cool to see him shooting his claws and lightning and shit but he’s too big and slow for it to be much of an interesting fight. Sesshomaru’s about to go full demon which would be interesting since we haven’t seen his full demon form since he lost his arm but in a neat bit of character development, Tenseiga calms his rage and tells him to use it instead. You get the feeling Sesshomaru only goes full demon when he flies off the handle and forgets about speed and strategy so him opting to not repeat the mistake he made against Inuyasha is pretty cool. Anyway Tenseiga heals the souls of the Panther Demons and drains their energy from the lord so he’s back to Zombie Cat Man which Inuyasha can Wind Scar because that’s what happens to villains on this show, all Wind Scars all the time. The Panthers don’t wanna fight anymore since their boss just killed them and tell Inuyasha to tell Sesshomaru the feud is over and they’re going back to the West. Honestly this is basically the same backstory they gave Kirinmaru in Yashahime so it’s funny for them to say they’re going back to the same place Kirinmaru is from, wonder if it’ll ever come up in Yashahime since most filler seems canon there.
Yu Yu Hakusho: Yusuke and Kuwabara continue the assault on Tarukane’s compound and basically plow through the lower demons easy since they’ve been fighting minor deities up to this point. It’s always pretty cool in Shonen to just have a few rounds to show how much power creep the heroes have had where certain things just don’t bother them anymore. Toguro murders a Chimera which has an oddly similar backstory to Nina from FMA and he seems really bummed about it but he’s like “Hey we’re both monsters made by humans telling us to do shit, so sorry for killing you bro”. And Tarukane basically sees Toguro is the next boss and is like “Yup time to scam some people off of this” and he sets up a betting ring for how far Yusuke and Co will get into his compound. This is kinda neat because it puts Tarukane in the weird position of betting against his own guards and hoping Yusuke will make it all the way to Toguro and then lose after everyone else has seen how awesome Yusuke is and bets on him. And funnily enough Sakyo’s in on the betting and he’s watched anime before so he knows to bet on the plucky teenagers with weird powers. So yeah Yusuke and Kuwabara finish plowing through the demons while Hiei kinda stalks them and remembers getting his eye surgery and wanting to help his sister but it’s kind of against spirit world rules for demons to just go plow through humans even if they’re scumbag humans so now Yusuke and Kuwabara have to go fight the Triad of boss demons Toguro has under him before Hiei busts in and just murders everyone for kidnapping his bird-loving jewel-crying little flower of a sister.
Fate Zero: So Kiritsugu can break Kayneth’s Terminator 2 Gaara defenses with rib bullets that just say ‘no’ to using magic and fucks his arrogant ass up. Saber and Lancer do some combo shenanigans to stab Caster right in the book and disrupt all his hentai tentacle demons but the book heals so idk why he can’t just make more. Kirei fucks up Maiya and Iris but didn’t double tap Maiya and DID double tap iris but she’s got Saber’s bullshit healing scabbard on her which no one knows about so Saber’s like “uhhh why are you healing” and Iris can’t tell her so she’s basically “Uhh internet?” Lancer comes in to save Kayneth’s worthless ass and tells Kiritsugu to stop being a dick to Saber because she’s pretty dope. But as usual for an early Fate encounter, no one dies and nothing of terrible consequence happens despite it being teased a couple times. I’ve noticed a trend with Fate that it really doesn’t like killing characters early so you’re basically guaranteed to have the first 2-3 major battles have a zero net gain/loss. Rider in UBW was probably the subversion to that since it happened crazy fast and anticlimactic but even that wasn’t till like ten episodes in.
Konosuba: So we finally meet Wiz the big booby Lich and Kazuma learns a new skill, both fun things. Also the gang gets a house to stay in after escapades with an army of haunted dolls and the most “I need to pee” in a horror setting since Corpse Party. But yeah, good progress this time honestly, the living in a stable gag was getting kind of old so Kazuma’s a bit stronger now and they have a home base so that’s pretty cool. Also Wiz is a Demon General or some shit but no one cares cause there ain’t no money in murdering busty zombie waifus.
Sailor Moon Crystal: So turns out Minako is Princess Serenity, except everyone who knows anything about Sailor Moon or indeed plot structure knows Sailor Moon is Princess Serenity, that’s like the Luke I Am Your Father of this series. But still turns out Minako has been guiding everyone with the power of video games but also thinks the power of friendship sucks and she’s gotta go do everything alone. This makes things super awkward because Mamoru’s pretty sure he was in love with the Princess but likes Usagi, now instead of running with this interesting thread of a reincarnation falling in love with someone new we’re gonna do the reveal that Usagi’s the princess and the whole ‘till death do us part’ part of marriage was just a metaphor and you’re stuck with one person no matter how many times you reincarnate. But yeah, Minako fights the bad guy on top of the tower but he has Naraku’s Barrier now and Minako doesn’t have the Red Tessaiga upgrade yet so she needs the power of friendship but this barrier is friendship-proof and this fight is basically a bunch of kids on the playground making up increasingly stupid powers that negate the other powers the other guy just made up. Anyway Tuxedo Mask shows up and is like “Holy shit Sailor Moon I love when you kiss me and kick ass, go get em sweetie I’ll hold your flower” and they kiss and Usagi has learned that if she just pretends she got this the power of her confidence will beat the bad guy. Unfortunately she does not got this and Tuxedo Mask has to pull a Piccolo and throw himself in front of the blast.
Durarara!!: So now that we’ve had our climax for the arc we have a six month timeskip and everyone’s just kinda living life, Mika and Seiji are being clinically insane together, there’s cops harassing Celty to the point of mental breakdown (normal cop stuff) Shinra’s dad’s in town, Namie’s become Izaya’s secretary for blackmail shit, you know, normal stuff. Also there’s a katana-wielding maniac going around slashing people and Anri’s being bullied and sexually harassed to the point of mental collapse, normal stuff.

Guide to Trending The reason I made this guide is so everyone will have a better understanding of why we try to trend shows every Saturday night during Toonami. First of all the reason we trend shows is to show the popularity and interest of the show which is counted toward ratings, when trending you use a hashtag in your tweet (Ex: #ShowName is on Toonami!) in order for a show to better trend we all must use the same hashtag when tweeting, using different hashtags limits the ability of getting a show to trend. Rules for Trending: 1. Don't over tag your tweets, the norm is one hashtag per tweet but, you can use no more than two per tweet any more than two hashtags and it will be counted as spam. Don’t used the same hashtag multiple times in the same tweet as it will be counted as spam. 2. Your tweet must be relevant to your hashtag, in other words don't tweet anything off topic with the hashtag or it will not be counted. Also hashtags cannot be tweeted by themselves are they will not be counted as well. 3. Do not repeatedly tweet the same tweet over and over as it will also be consider spam. 4. Your account must be public if it is private your tweets will not count toward trending, you can change your account back to private after Toonami is over if you wish to do so. 5. Retweeting does not count toward trending unless you quote the tweet. (Ex: RT “@Username: #ShowName is on Toonami!”) Submitting Trends: When submitting screens captures to @AnimeSavior or @ToonamiNews for the trending rundown you must make sure your trends list are set to United Sates or Worldwide, Tailored trends do not count as anything, so please make sure you trends list are set properly. United States Trends:

“You either are a wrestler or you aren’t. No one can give you permission. Everyone knows that.” - Aunt P / Quesa Poblana, Invincible Fight Girl (Ep. 01)
The Toonami Trending Rundown for November 2024. It was a month of big premieres, as viewers were treated to the World Premiere of Invincible Fight Girl, the return of Blue Exorcist to Toonami for the first time in a decade, and the U.S. television premiere of Mashle: Magic and Muscles.
For the social media buzz on the nights of Toonami proper, #Toonami trended in the USA on Twitter on November 9, 23 and 30th, as well as on Tumblr on November 23. Invincible Fight Girl trended in the US during all five weeks of the month, and Mashle also trended on all weeks save for the 2nd (as the latter show would make its debut a week later due to the former show having a doubleheader for its premiere.) As for Toonami Rewind, #ToonamiRewind and Sailor Moon would trend in the US during both the broadcasts of November 8 and 22nd.

The feature for November 16 was a new Toonami ID titled “Vended.” You can check it out below:
youtube
And on November 23, Toonami released a Game Review of Neva by Nomada Studios. It received an 8/10 score.
youtube
Anime was well represented at the 97th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, as floats of both Goku and Luffy once again took to the streets of New York City on Thanksgiving.

Toho Animation has revealed a new trailer and key visual for Dr. Stone: Science Future, the fourth and final season of the series. The first cour of the new season is scheduled to premiere in Japan and on Crunchyroll in January 2025.
youtube
David Wald, the voice of Hannes in Attack on Titan, Tetsutetsu in My Hero Academia, among others, has announced that he will no longer be reprising his roles in any Crunchyroll productions in the future thanks to some abusive behavior from his now former employer. According to David, Funimation/Crunchyroll employees for the past five years have been opening up any fan mail that was sent to him through them, threw away said letters, and passed out any included items between staff members. Which is a violation of federal law (18 U.S. Code § 1702 - Obstruction of correspondence). While Crunchyroll execs have stated that they are investigating the situation, they have yet to update at this time, as the situation may or may not be under litigation.

If you've read my OP-ED, The 2020’s Anime and Streaming Service Bubble Burst, this behavior hasn’t been atypical for Crunchyroll and Funimation since being bought and merged by Sony, as David joins the likes of Kyle McCarley, Laura Post, Marin M. Miller, Ben Diskin, all of Toonami, among many other talents and industry figures, that Crunchyroll has burned bridges with since their merger.

Sony won’t be getting away from the monopoly allegations any time soon, as Reuters reported during the month that they have been in talks to acquire media conglomerate Kadokawa for their anime and video game assets. However, on December 19, Sony have since toned it down (for now at least) to a "strategic capital and business alliance" by acquiring a 10% stake in Kadokawa and will collaborate on various future projects.
Finally, In the Sword Art Online universe, November 7th, 2024 is the exact day when Kirito, Asuna, and the players of SAO would clear the world of Aincrad. To commemorate the occasion, Aniplex and Kadokawa has released this key visual from the events of Episode 14.

Not much else to say other than until next time, stay golden as always.

Clark: “One week ago, Earth faced an alien invasion. You’ve heard different versions of what happened, but we at the Daily Planet have a duty to bring you the truth.” Jimmy: “The truth is that Superman and his cousin [Supergirl] saved us. But they weren’t alone.” Lois: “The people of Metropolis came together to help them, putting aside their differences to protect our home.” Clark: “The invader was defeated, and justice came to those who those who tried to benefit from fear and pain.” Lois: “But even as this brought out the best in many, it brought out the worst in others. And there will always be new threats to face.” Clark: “No one knows what will come next for Metropolis, but there’s one thing we at the Daily Planet know for certain…” Jimmy: “No matter what the future holds…” Lois: “No matter what is thrown at us…” Clark: “We will face it together.” - My Adventures with Superman (Season 2, Ep. 10)
The Toonami Trending Rundown for the month of July 2024. During these past few weeks, fans got to enjoy the final two episodes of My Adventures with Superman season 2, among other great moments. And as July is the month of San Diego Comic-Con, Toonami viewers got to enjoy some big announcements in regard to several upcoming shows.
During the night of the airing of the penultimate episode of My Adventures with Superman season 2 on July 13-14, #MyAdventuresWithSuperman would trend on the USA on Twitter, while One Piece trended on Tumblr. And during the night of July 20-21, where we saw the season 2 finale of My Adventures with Superman, #Toonami would trend in the US alongside #MyAdventuresWithSuperman and #NarutoShippuden. #Toonami also trended on Tumblr. The night of July 27-28 did not see any trends, as Toonami showcased a MAWS marathon of season 2 during SDCC week.
As for Toonami Rewind, #ToonamiRewind would trend in the US during the broadcasts of July 12, 19, and 26, though on July 19, Sailor Moon and Naruto would also trend in the US, while Naruto also trended on Tumblr. Which isn’t bad, especially considering that on July 26, both the Olympics opening ceremony and Comic-Con were occurring at the same time.
As mentioned, San Diego Comic-Con took place at the end of July, and in case you missed it, Toonami fans got to enjoy several announcements during the convention. The big news was that we got a brand-new show announcement in Rooster Fighter by Shū Sakuratani.
youtube
Adult Swim announced that the English dubbed version of Rick and Morty: The Anime will premiere on Thursday August 15 @ midnight EDT/PDT, while the Japanese (with English subtitles) version will air on Toonami on Saturday, August 17 @ midnight.
youtube
Also, towards the end of the Rick and Morty panel, Jason DeMarco also revealed that we finally have a release date for Junji Ito’s Uzumaki after several years of delays: September 28, 2024 at 12:30 a.m., following premiere episodes of Rick and Morty: The Anime. Back during Anime Expo 2024, the Uzumaki cast was revealed by Production I.G, with Abby Trott as Kirie Goshima and Robbie Daymond as Shuichi Saito. In addition, Lazarus, the newest work of Shinichiro Watanabe, will be scheduled to premiere in 2025.
youtube
Finally, during the Demon Slayer panel on Saturday night, Aniplex announced that Demon Slayer’s third season, the Swordsmith Village arc, will begin airing on Toonami this August 10.
youtube
Meanwhile, for those who have been wanting to see more Lycoris Recoil, it’s been announced during the show’s second anniversary program that there are six short films in the works, that will depict the daily lives of Chisato, Takina, and others in the LycoRico cast. While Director Shingo Adachi will return in supervising, each of the six movies will feature different people handling direction and storyboarding, including character designer Imigimuru will be in charge of some of the scripts. A release date is to be announced.

Of course, this won’t be the end of My Adventures with Superman, as DC is hard at work creating the show’s third season, so stay tuned. In the meantime, we’ll have the trending rundown for the first few weeks of August, including the premiere of Demon Slayer's Swordsmith Village arc and the premiere of Rick and Morty: The Anime, out in the coming days, as with other articles and interviews from San Diego Comic-Con coming soon. Until next time, Be sure to register to vote for this year’s elections if you’re eligible and haven’t already, and let’s go Team USA.

"Hold on, before we start: If you think you can beat me, think again. Cause I'm gonna beat the stuffing out of you, with my fists." Mash Burnedead, Mashle (Ep. 08)
This is the Toonami Trending Rundown for the month of January 2025. Toonami begins its 13th year back on Adult Swim as the block is in a “transitional period” of sorts with Invincible Fight Girl presently rerunning after completing its first season and Toonami Rewind being “merged back” into the block at the rear half of the lineup.
The first scheduled Toonami of the year, January 4-5, was a holiday marathon night of Uzumaki, so no trends were spotted during the 4-episode marathon. For the night of January 11-12, #Toonami trended in the USA on Twitter alongside Mashle, Invincible Fight Girl, and Blue Exorcist. On the night of January 18-19, only Toonami would trend. And for the night of January 25-26, #Toonami would trend alongside Mashle and Blue Exorcist.
The feature for the January 4-5 edition of Toonami featured a new Toonami ID titled “Laser TOM.” You can check it out below:
youtube
January 11-12’s feature was a game review for Squirrel with a Gun, an indie action-adventure game developed by Dee Dee Creations and published by Maximum Entertainment. It received a 7.5 out of 10 score.
youtube
The developers of Squirrel with a Gun, were quite happy about the Toonami bump on Twitter.

January 18-19 saw another new Toonami ID, titled “Strange Ritual.”
youtube
And the feature for January 25-26 was supposed to be a game review for the newest Indiana Jones video game by Bethesda, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Game. I say supposed to as the Cartoon Network broadcast control accidentally showcased a promo for Barney’s World, the newest animated series in the Barney franchise, which was probably meant to be showcased during the Cartoonito early morning hours rather than on Adult Swim/Toonami. Nonetheless, it received a score of 9/10 and you can check out that game review below.

Unfortunately, Adult Swim has decided to pull the plug on Toonami Rewind in the new year as the Friday afternoon throwback lineup was retired by the end of the year, with said timeslots being given back to Checkered Past. It’s not all lost, however, as the Rewind lineup would be “merged back” into the Saturday night Toonami lineup, with Naruto starting over from the beginning starting January 11th, while Sailor Moon returning on January 25th.
Mike McFarland, voice actor and ADR Director whom has lent his talents to many Toonami shows over the years including Dragon Ball, Full Metal Alchemist and Attack on Titan, was diagnosed with a massive brain tumor after originally dealing with symptoms of an ear infection. Fortunately, Mike underwent emergency surgery to successfully remove the tumor and is presently recovering. Our thoughts go out to Mike as he recovers, and if you wish to help Mike in a philanthropic way, feel free to donate to his GoFundMe set up by his colleagues.

Studio MAPPA on Friday has released new info and a key visual for Shinichiro Watanabe’s new series Lazarus. The season will be 13 episodes in length and will be airing in Japan on TV Tokyo this April 2025. Adult Swim has also announced on Instagram that Lazarus will also be airing on Toonami stateside in April with a concrete premiere date TBA. We’ll keep you posted.
Finally, The Pillows, the band best known among anime fans for creating the theme music for FLCL, has just announced that they have disbanded after 35 years following their January 31st concert in Yokohama. The band members plan on continuing their respective careers individually. All I can say is, Thank you, our twilights, and Ride on Shooting Star.

Until next time, hope you have a Happy Black History month, congratulations to the Ohio State Buckeyes for winning the National Championship, and of course, our thoughts go out to all those affected by the Southern California Wildfires. While the major fires have been fully contained after weeks of effort from first responders, at least 29 people have lost their lives; and thousands of residents, including voice actors Amanda Winn Lee and Melissa Fahn, have lost their homes. If you wish to help in a philanthropic way, make sure to donate to a reputable organization, including the Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles, the California Community Foundation, the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, The Los Angeles Police Foundation, and gofundme (including one for Melissa Fahn. Amanda herself, in lieu of donations, has requested donators to purchase something from her Amazon Registry for her.)

Finn: “So this whole time, he wasn’t using magic?” Lemon: “He did everything with his muscles?” Dot: “Seriously? But that’s impossible!” Finn: “That kind of sounds like a fairy tale…” Lemon: “Exactly like a fairy tale.” - Mashle: Magic and Muscles (Ep. 12)
The Toonami Trending Rundown for February 2025. This month was headlined by the season 1 finale of Mashle: Magic and Muscles, among other great moments.
For the night of February 1, only Naruto managed to trend on Tumblr, which may not have been helped that the bombshell Luka Dončić–Anthony Davis trade was announced at the same time that dominated the social media talk. For the night of February 8, Toonami trended in the United States on Twitter alongside Mashle and Blue Exorcist, while Monkey D. Luffy from One Piece and Naruto trended on Tumblr. A week later on February 15, Toonami trended in the US alongside Mashle for its season finale, Blue Exorcist and Sailor Moon, while One Piece trended on Tumblr. And finally on February 22, #Toonami trended in the USA alongside Blue Exorcist.
The feature for February 8-9 was a new “Criminal Threats”/“Building You a Better Cartoon Show” promo. You can check it out below.

And for February 22, Toonami released a new ID titled "Beautiful Occurrence" created by KingBoss. You can check it out below:

Of course, there is a second season of Mashle, titled The Divine Visionary Candidate Exam Arc, which aired in Japan from January 6 to March 30, 2024. Unfortunately, we’re gonna have to wait a bit longer for if and when Season 2 hits Toonami airwaves at this time. For the interim, at least until Lazarus arrives in April, Toonami will be rerunning FLCL Grunge followed by FLCL Shoegaze at midnight for the next six weeks. In addition, Toonami will be airing reruns of the new Adult Swim original series Common Side Effects at 12:30 am ET.

Back during the Fate 20th Anniversary Memorial Talk Show in Los Angeles on November 23, Aniplex announced that Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works] would be headed to cable television in 2025. The announcement raised eyebrows, especially when Aniplex did not clarified any further where and when this would be occurring, in comparison to previous announcements. Hinting that either Aniplex was under a gag order from Fate’s producers from saying it’s going to Toonami until the time comes, or another network is working on creating their own anime TV block to air their wares in the coming months. Turns out that it would be the latter, and for the first time in over a decade, Toonami has competition in the linear TV scene.

AXS TV (formerly HD Net) has announced the “Anime.com Hour”, which airs Thursdays at 10 pm ET/7 pm PT starting on February 13 (with an encore on Saturday at the same time). At this time, their lineup will consist of Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works], and My Hero Academia (seasons 1-2) starting from the beginning, each airing a doubleheader hourly, switching every two weeks.
Throughout the history of anime in the west, and especially during the last anime boom, many media conglomerates have attempted to create their own anime block or even their own anime network to try and take some of Toonami’s thunder. These include G4 Tech TV’s Anime Unleashed, SyFy’s Saturday Anime and later Ani-Monday, CW’s 4KidsTV, the Funimation Channel, Viz Media’s Neon Alley, and ADV’s Anime Network. On the other hand, whether it was due to lack of promotion, a failure to win over the crowds, executive meddling, and what not, none of these rival blocks have been able to replicate the success, longevity, and culture that Toonami has. Furthermore, the Anime.com hour is co-run and sponsored by Azuki NFTs, which could be a red flag for those who are not fans of crypto and “tech bro” culture.
Time will tell if AXS can learn from the mistakes of those that tried before and make their own spot in the anime scene or will fall by the wayside like other Toonami competitors before them, but we do wish them the best of luck.

Until next week, have a Happy Year of the Snake, congratulations to the Ohio State Buckeyes for winning the National Championship and the Philadelphia Eagles for winning Super Bowl LIX, and stay gold.

“If you find yourself unable to feel any kind of pain, then it is no different from being dead. While it is unfortunate, due to its dependency on Hapna, mankind as we know it is dead. Furthermore, we have become fixated on short-term gains in a never-ending battle against our fellow man. This struggle has irreparably destroyed the environment of our planet. Taking the lives of countless people in the process. And so, as a scientist, I’m forced to come to this conclusion…that is the true nature of the human race. Can we allow this evil to continue? Shouldn’t we, the human race, be held accountable and face punishment for our sins? As a matter of fact, I did not develop Hapna to act as a mere pain killer. I engineered it to remain in the body. Three years after ingestion, Hapna will mutate, killing all those who have taken it. It is impossible for Hapna to be neutralized or purged from the bloodstream. I have no intention of playing God. Nor do I intend to unilaterally decide what the fate of humanity will be. All I am doing is serving as the Seventh Trumpeter. I estimate in 30 days the first users of Hapna will die. But you should all know that I currently have the cure. You have 30 days. If someone can find me within that time, then humanity will survive. Whether we as a race are worth saving or not is something that I leave for all of you to decide.” - Dr. Skinner, Lazarus (Ep. 01)
“We call ourselves “Lazarus.” Welcome aboard, Axel Gilberto.” - Hersch
This Toonami Trending Rundown is for the month of March 2025 and April 5-6, 2025. These past few weeks would culminate in the World Premiere of Shinichiro Watanabe’s newest show, Lazarus.
youtube
Throughout the month of March, #Toonami would trend in the US on Twitter on all five Saturdays Toonami aired on the month. Blue Exorcist would trend in the US in all Toonami broadcasts alongside it with the exception of March 1-2. Meanwhile on Tumblr, Naruto would trend on March 1-2, while #Toonami and Sailor Moon trended on March 8-9.
And during Lazarus’ world premiere on the night of April 5-6, #Toonami and #Lazarus would trend on the USA on Twitter, while Naruto trended on Tumblr. And in a new first, Lazarus would also trend on BlueSky, the first for Toonami on the fledging social media site since they introduced trending topics back in December.
Also, Hideo Kojima of Metal Gear Solid, Death Stranding, and OD fame, is apparently a big fan of the show so far.

On a programming note, Toonami’s schedule will stay the same through the month of April, but on April 26 at 3:00 a.m. EDT, the block will wrap up with a one hour special from special musical guests Ginger Root with their visual album, Shinbangumi.

Not much else to say other than congratulations to the Florida Gators and the UConn Huskies for winning the Men’s and Women’s Basketball National Championships, respectively. And our thoughts go out to the families of voice actors George Lowe, best known for voicing Space Ghost in Space Ghost: Coast to Coast, as well as Dave Mallow, voice of Amaro in FLCL, Gotoh in Hunter x Hunter, Ernest Frederick Egin in Blue Exorcist and many more, both of whom would sadly pass away this past month. May you both rest in peace, and thanks for the memories.

“That gloomy sea, and that Sinister lighthouse. Insidious mountains and looming cityscape. every inch of this place gets under my skin. Wait, that's it. This town is driving me insane, winding me up. It's making me spiral. Everywhere I look, spirals are taking over.” - Shuichi Saito, Uzumaki (Ep. 01)
This Toonami Trending Rundown is for the month of September 2024. After first being announced in 2019, and going through four years of delays, this month that would culminate in the world premiere of Junji Ito’s Uzumaki.
youtube
For the night of September 7, #Toonami would trend in the U.S. alongside Demon Slayer. #Toonami would also trend on Tumblr alongside One Piece and My Hero Academia. On September 14, #Toonami trended in the United States and on Tumblr, with One Piece also trending on Tumblr. For the night of September 21, Toonami trended in the US on Twitter and on Tumblr, while Demon Slayer also trended in the USA. Finally, September 28th would see the premiere of Uzumaki, and as result of the buzz, both Uzumaki and Rick and Morty: The Anime would trend in the USA on Twitter, while Uzumaki also trended on Tumblr.
Meanwhile for Toonami Rewind, #ToonamiRewind would trend on both September 13 and 27. Sailor Moon would also trend on the 13th. Full trending statistics can be seen below.
The feature for September 14 was a new Toonami ID titled “Doppelganger.” You can check it out below.
youtube
On September 28, Toonami released a new Criminal Threats/Building You a Better Cartoon Show promo. You can check it out below.
youtube
The production for Uzumaki has not been easy and has since seen significant delays from its original release date since the show’s announcement at Crunchyroll Expo 2019. First from 2020, then to October 2022 thanks to the pandemic, until Toonami just stopped giving out an ETA release date altogether. During SDCC 2023, Toonami creator and Uzumaki producer Jason DeMarco noted that the reason for these delays, among other things, is “Because it turns out it’s very, very hard to replicate Junji Ito’s lines faithfully, but that hasn’t stopped us from continuing to work on it.” It wasn’t until 2024 that we finally got the news that the show was ready to go.
While Uzumaki’s first episode aired without a hitch, episodes 2, 3, and 4 on the other hand, saw some recognizable hitches in regards to the animation quality. According to show producer Jason DeMarco in a now deleted Bluesky post, he mentioned that they were “screwed over” during the show’s production, which ultimately played a major role in the show’s delays and animation quality dip. Unfortunately, the choices given to the Uzumaki production team in the end were to either cancel the production and call it a total loss (and presumably see the production written off in a similar fashion to Coyote vs Acme), only release Episode 1 and leave the series incomplete, or to release the series despite its flaws. The latter of the three was ultimately the decision chosen.

Jason couldn't point fingers to who was responsible for Uzumaki's production issues, though it surely wasn’t helped that this miniseries was produced during the ongoing upheaval with Warner Bros Discovery, with CEO David Zaslav infamously going on a cost cutting and tax write off spree to make up for WBD’s post-merger debts. And given that this series was announced at the now-defunct Crunchyroll Expo, its likely this series would have been available to stream on Crunchyroll as well, had Sony not burn bridges with WBD.
Oftentimes, if a show has such animation quality issues due to a rushed schedule, it tends to be smoothed out for the Blu-ray release and reruns. However, it is unknown if and when Production I.G and Cartoon Network plans on fixing these mistakes for a BD release, much less if we will have a Blu-ray release at all. Regardless of what happened and what happens going forward, Toonami, Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, and Warner Bros Discovery as a whole will no doubt need to get their acts together on this front, especially if Lazarus, Rooster Fighter, and other future Toonami originals are to be the smash hits fans are hoping will be.
Unfortunately, Uzumaki’s case is not unique in the anime world. From Attack on Titan, to Dragon Ball Super, to One Punch Man, to Zom 100, to anything made by Studio MAPPA, no small amount of anime titles in the modern era have seen frequent delays and are occasionally rushed out the door with animation flaws. A big reason for that is a shortage in manpower. From the high demand for anime productions from domestic and international licensors alike, to the low pay and grueling work conditions of its animators, production cast and crews, and manga artists (not to mention Japan’s declining birth and immigration rates), the anime industry has backed themselves into a corner with less and less people being able to get into the industry as a viable career path. It’s a big reason many anime series don’t go beyond 12-14 episodes a season nowadays. And it certainly played a role in the Great Anime Crash of 2008 and is playing a role in the current anime dark age we’re seeing today. For more on that, check out my Op-Ed “The 2020’s Anime and Streaming Service Bubble Burst.”
As previously mentioned, due to personal reasons, I’m unfortunately running a bit late on posting Trending Rundowns, so expect the editions for the rest of 2024 to be posted in the coming weeks. Apologies for the inconvenience. Until next time, stay gold as always.

“Kal-El of Krypton! I answered your call. The Beacon reached me across your Galaxy, the only other Kryptonian in existence. And I arrive, only to see you brought me to this...sickening display. [Superman: "You're Kara, you're my cousin?"] And you're a disappointment. I thought I would find a warrior. Instead, I find a joke, a lapdog, serving his entertainment to a weak and dissolute world. I'm not saying that there aren't temptations here. But a true Kryptonian pushes through. This planet it's made you soft. [Superman: "What are you saying?"] You have two choices, join me in conquering this planet, or kneel before your new Kryptonian Empire.” - Kara Zor-El, My Adventures with Superman (Season 2, Ep. 05)
The Toonami Trending Rundown for June 15-16, 2024. We reach the halfway point of My Adventures with Superman season 2 as Clark reunites with his long-lost cousin Kara. And among other great moments, we’re coming down the stretch with three more episodes of Zom 100’s first season after this week, as Akira returns home to his family; while Usopp and the Dwarves attack Sugar to try and stop her control of the toys.
For this week’s trending on Saturday, #Toonami trended in the USA on Twitter alongside My Adventures with Superman and Zom 100. No trends for Toonami Rewind on Friday were spotted this week.
This week’s feature was a new bumper ID titled “Screen Updates.” You can check it out below:

While there have been rumors and inclinations from Adult Swim that they do plan on producing a second season of Ninja Kamui, there is no official word on whether a second season is presently in production at this time. In a since-deleted news release by Business Wire, the article included a passage signifying that a second season of Ninja Kamui was in the works, saying ““NINJA KAMUI” anime series has become the most viewed anime ever in the history of both Adult Swim & MAX,” said Joseph Chou, CEO of Sola Entertainment. “We hope this game will continue to entertain the fans around the world while we work on Season 2 of the anime.””
However, Jason DeMarco has denied such an announcement, saying that “A second season has not been announced.” Chou later clarified to Anime News Network on Wednesday: “that the game's PR staff inserted the quote about Sola Entertainment "working on" a second season. While he said that they are considering new ideas, "there is nothing official at all."”
Next month, the block will be in a bit of a transition period as both Zom 100 and My Adventures with Superman will be completing their respective seasons on July 6 and July 20th respectively. For the nights of July 13 and 20th, both One Piece and Demon Slayer will have doubleheaders on the lineup on 12:30-1:30 a.m. and 3-4 a.m. respectively. Furthermore, on July 27, which ironically enough is Comic-Con week this year, My Adventures with Superman will be getting a marathon of all 10 episodes of its second season, a week after its season finale.

Not much else to say other than we hope you had a great Father's Day and Juneteenth, congratulations to the Boston Celtics on winning their record 18th NBA Championship, and stay gold.

“Before that happens, I need you to hear me out. I have a younger brother named Senjuro. Please tell him to follow his heart and walk down the path he feels is right. And tell my father that I want him to look after himself. And lastly, about your sister [Nezuko], know that I believe in her. I accept her as part of our ranks. Your sister shed blood to protect the people inside that train from demons. And anyone who does that, regardless of what is said to the contrary, is a rightful member of the Demon Slayer Corps. So, hold your head high. If you are feeling disheartened, that you are somehow not enough, set your heart ablaze. Dry your eyes and look ahead. You may feel like digging your heels in, but the flow of time waits for no one. It won't patiently stand by as you grieve. Don't feel bad that I'm going to die. As a Hashira, it's natural I'd protect you all. The young buds must be allowed to bloom. Any other Hashira would have done the same as I. Young Kamado, Young Boar, Boy of Yellow, you must continue to grow and eventually you will end your aid by becoming the next Hashara. I believe in each and every one of you.” - Kyojuro Rengoku, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train arc (Ep. 07)
The Toonami Trending Rundown for December 2023. In a moment two years in the making and at one point we’d thought would never happen, Toonami would finally air the finale of Demon Slayer’s Mugen Train arc.
For the night of December 2-3, #Toonami would trend in the USA on Twitter alongside Dr. Stone and IGPX. #Toonani would also trend on Tumblr alongside Demon Slayer. For the night of December 9-10, #Toonami would trend in both the USA on Twitter and on Tumblr alongside both Demon Slayer and Dr. Stone, while IGPX would trend just on Twitter. And non the night of December 16-17 for the final regular scheduled Toonami of 2023 and the season finale of Demon Slayer, #Toonami would trend in the USA alongside Demon Slayer and Dr. Stone.
The nights of December 23-24 and 30-31 were holiday marathon nights, as the block aired the entire Mugen Train arc on the 23rd as well as a Dr. Stone: New World marathon on the 30th. No trends appeared during those nights.
If you wondered why it took so long for Toonami to air Season 2 until this point, I posted an Op-Ed on Toonami Squad titled “The 2020’s Anime and Streaming Service Bubble Burst,” as I look into the controversies regarding the Warner Bros Discovery merger, the Funimation-Crunchyroll merger, their respective effects on Toonami, and how what’s going on with both could lead to another anime bubble burst, and one for streaming services overall.
I’m unfortunately running a bit late on Trending Rundowns, so expect the July editions to be posted in the come days. Until next time, congratulations to the Columbus Crew on winning the MLS Cup and stay gold.

“Usagi, I need you to listen to me. Strange things are happening in the city. Even the Police can't handle what's going on. A dangerous enemy has appeared. You're the only one who can defeat this enemy. You're the guardian that's been chosen for this mission. But there's more than just that. you also have to find the other Guardians and our Princess.” - Luna, Sailor Moon (Ep. 01)
The Toonami Trending Rundown for May 31 and June 1-2, 2024. For the first time since April 15, 2004, Toonami would return to airing on a weekday timeslot on Fridays with Toonami Rewind as part of Adult Swim’s expansion to 5pm to showcase classic Cartoon Network programming. The inaugural lineup featured the return of Sailor Moon to Toonami for the first time in 23 years alongside an hour of DBZ Kai and OG Naruto.
And fans on social media responded very positively to Toonami Rerun’s debut. On Twitter, #ToonamiRewind trended in the USA alongside Sailor Moon and DBZ Kai.
Meanwhile on the regular Toonami late night lineup, Zom 100 returned from its three-week hiatus, and Demon Slayer begun its rerun of the Entertainment District arc in the meantime. In terms of trends, #Toonami trended in the USA on Twitter alongside My Adventures with Superman and Zom 100. #Toonami also trended on Tumblr.
This week’s feature was a game review of Dave the Diver, developed by Mintrocket studios. It received an 8.5 out of 10 score.

Despite the present upheaval at Warner Bros Discovery, the current success of Toonami was paramount to Cartoon Network and Adult Swim creating Toonami Rewind. According to Jason DeMarco on Blue Sky, “It was the network’s idea to try a second Toonami block since they are very happy with the performance of the Saturday night version. They wondered if a throwback Toonami would be interesting. We liked the idea!” And assuming things go well, Jason says he has “all kinds of cool plans to bring more shows in” including shows Toonami has aired in the past, Adult Swim action shows, western animated action classics and more.
Of course, that all depends on if people continue to watch Toonami Rewind every Friday as with regular Toonami every Saturday. So be sure to keep watching (or at least set your DVRs) and help contribute to the social media buzz if you’re into it. And as with any potential Toonami show, if you do wish to see a show air on Toonami or Toonami Rewind, feel free to let Toonami know on their Facebook page as well as letting Jason DeMarco know on his Bluesky @clarknova.bsky.social. It also doesn’t hurt to let your favorite show’s respective licensor(s) know (whether it’s Crunchyroll, Toei, Viz Media, and the like) on their respective social media outlets as well. On a related note, Jason DeMarco no longer posts on Twitter outside of “promotional information related to my work,” and has privatized his account (after previously deleting it) for archival purposes, so we’re not sure if he’ll still read any show requests and feedback that is sent to @clarknova1.
Finally, this past week was the birthday of yours truly, so I’d like to give a huge thank you to Jason, Steve, Dana, and everyone at Cartoon Network who are doing their part to rebuild the better cartoon show. as well as those that watch, record, and live tweet and blog this great block. No doubt that Toonami is the gift that keeps on giving and showing that hope springs eternal for the mainstream success of anime and action cartoons overall.

“No, I hardly did anything at all. Maybe I managed to help things along a little. But it's really all thanks to the bonds that Naruto forged. Everyone's here today all because of Naruto. I'm sure that he's going to make Hinata very happy.” Kakashi Hatake, Naruto Shippuden (Ep. 500)
The Toonami Trending Rundown for the month of August 2024. After over a decade on the lineup with 22 seasons and 500 episodes, we say goodbye to Naruto Shippuden as the show completes its long run on Toonami. Toonami viewers would also get to see the premiere of Rick and Morty: The Anime, a side story of the popular Rick and Morty television series that was directed by Takeshi Sano.
youtube
For the night of August 10, #Toonami trended in the USA on Twitter alongside Demon Slayer and a character trend from One Piece in Usopp. Demon Slayer also trended on Tumblr. On August 17, Toonami trended in the USA alongside Rick and Morty, Demon Slayer, and Naruto Shippuden. And on the nights of August 24 and 31, Toonami trended in the US alongside Demon Slayer and Shippuden. In addition, on August 31, Toonami trended on Tumblr alongside One Piece and #mha and #bnha.
As for Toonami Rewind, #Toonami would trend in the USA alongside Sailor Moon on the broadcasts of August 2 and 9.
August 24-25’s feature was a new Toonami ID titled “Engine Test.” You can check it out below.
youtube
And the August 31 edition of Toonami saw a game review of Hauntii by Moonloop Games. It received an 8/10 score.
youtube
If you missed it, check out my interview with Jason DeMarco at San Diego Comic-Con, as we discuss Rick and Morty: The Anime.

Naruto does have a finale and epilogue besides this final episode of Shippuden, that being The Last: Naruto the Movie which came out in Japan in 2014, that goes into more detail on how Naruto and Hinata hooked up and eventually got married. And there’s Boruto: Naruto the Movie released in 2015, which serves as the bridge to the Boruto anime series.
youtube
Unfortunately, as with the likes of Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale, Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul, and Dr. Stone: Ryusei, getting anime movies has been very difficult for Toonami to acquire nowadays, so fans will have to watch those parts of the story elsewhere. Alongside budgetary issues, anime movies are usually separately licensed from the shows themselves, and tend to have a bigger and/or different production committee from the anime. And not all companies are willing to give Toonami a discount for a broadcast deal, or even let them air it at all regardless of being essential to the storyline.
youtube
Speaking of Boruto, while Toonami aired the first 52 episodes in 2019, the show has been put into an indefinite hiatus (if not outright canceled) from the block due to low ratings (and likely a high asking licensing price from Viz and Shueisha, et. al). Despite that Studio Pierrot has made an additional 241 episodes of the series, its last airing on March 2023.
Given that Toonami has opted to rerun Naruto from the beginning again for Rewind, and given that’s it’s been six years since Boruto left, it’s likely that the Naruto franchise has premiered its last episode on Toonami. But as Jason DeMarco has regularly said: “never say never.” And perhaps one day, this franchise will make its return (outside of reruns). Nonetheless, it was a fun ride watching the Knuckleheaded Ninja of the Leaf Village grow up to become the 7th Hokage. Believe it!
Unfortunately, due to personal reasons, I’m unfortunately running a bit late on posting Trending Rundowns, so expect the editions for the rest of 2024 to be posted in the coming weeks. Apologies for the inconvenience. Until next time, stay gold as always.
