"Katelyn looks like Neil" yes BUT she looks like pre-evermore Neil. He comes back after winter break a redhead and Andrew does the biggest sigh of relief ever because thank fuck his crush doesn't look exactly like his identical twin brother's girlfriend.

Twins run in the family.
Aaron and Katelyn get married after graduating from Palmetto, before they go off to med school together. It takes them pretty far from Andrew, but they work to keep in touch.
In the last year of their four year MDs, Kate gets pregnant — A happy accident. Then, they find out they're having twins, just, holy fuck. Kate is determined to not let it slow her down, though, because she's a bad bitch. Then Andrew suggests that they move closer to him and Neil once they graduate.
This leads to a few long and difficult conversations. Andrew admits that he would like to see Aaron more and to have a relationship with his nieces. Aaron admits that he does miss Andrew being close by and that they could use the extra support. In the end, they agree after Andrew actually apologies to Katelyn for the way he treated her in the beginning.
No one regrets the decision. Aaron and Katelyn are beyond grateful for the support as they start their careers. Andrew absolutely adores his nieces, more so than he ever thought he could. Neil is happy because Andrew is happy.
But it isn't always easy. It's hard because they both see it; the girls are what Andrew and Aaron could have been if they were never separated. If Tilda had been capable of being a good mother to her twins. And it fucking hurts.
Somehow, this pain leads to Aaron planting a seed in Andrew's mind — What if Andrew and Neil were to start fostering? Andrew thinks his brother has finally lost it. It's ludicrous, insane, impossible, but– Is it? Helping foster kids could be nice, and it's not like they can't stop if it's too much.
Once Neil has his own separate crisis about it, they decide to go for it. Andrew and Neil sure as hell know how not to raise a kid and they have yet to completely traumatise any of the kids in their lives. So a fuck ton of paperwork and hoop-jumping later, they find themselves in a group home to see if there's a kid there they can help.
That's when they find not one kid, but two. Tucked away in a corner they find twin girls, maybe a year younger than Aaron's girls, who only speak Russian. They hadn't intended to jump in at the deep-end like that, but something about them puts Andrew on alert. So they take the girls home with them.
And it is so, so much harder than they had expected. They had only prepped for one kid, but that's easily fixed. It's not so easy to fix the fact that the girls absolutely do not trust them. But Andrew and Neil are persistent; they don't push for trust, but they make sure to prove to the girls that they are safe at every turn.
Slowly, achingly slowly, the girls start to relax. They start to open up. And Andrew realises something so much worse than the pain that got them here.
Andrew realises that his twins are like him and Aaron too, but if Tilda left them both in the system. They are the real life result of his own worst nightmare.

I didn't expect the suckerpunch to the emotional gut, but here I am wheezing and gasping for air after reading what Mackenzi Lee is putting down here.
She gets it.

The Skywalkers are wildfires, their passions scorching the dirt as soon as they're given a spark.
Tumblr media
How different this galaxy would be if the Skywalkers didn't care so much.
Tumblr media
The Skywalkers could level planets with their obstinacy. Though, Padmé was like that, too.

idk about yall but one of my most ever favorite aftg headcanons is that Andrew is really good with kids, and in the future when Aaron and Katelyn settle down and have kids, their kids will absolutely adore "Uncle Andrew", and he'll happily suffer through whatever sort of play the kids want to do with an as genuine and un-menacing smile on his face as he can manage, whenever he and Neil (and Kevin) come to visit

look i love a good kevaaron fic, but whenever they describe aaron's breakup with katelyn i just can't believe it. like, the girl was willing to keep their relationship a secret, support him through a murder trial, and get threatened by his twin brother, all while being a student athlete AND premed? there's no way they're breaking up after all that, she clearly loves him lmao.
anyway katelyn mackenzie is an icon and i can't believe it took us so long to get her last name.

Theodore Bell AND Mobius M. Mobius
Kick off their acquaintance with Loki by putting him in restraints
Did a lot of research on Loki before meeting him
Bicker with Loki incessantly
Have one of those “oh wow, you’re one of them” moments
Make a point of telling Loki he controls his own fate and he doesn’t have to be a villain if he doesn’t want to be

I honestly wish there was going to be more than five episodes of wintermute for the long dark. It still feels like we're at the beginning of the story.
SPOILERS FOR WINTERMUTE
-
For the first three episodes you have an average of two characters to interact with. You get three in episode one, two in episode two (along with your possible brief interaction with the forest talker). One of episode twos characters is from episode one so you only get to properly talk with one character the whole time. In episode three you're technically around more people, but you only have real conversations with two of them. Finally in episode four you get five new characters, three of whom are criminals that teeter between multi/dimensional and evil bad guys who do crime because fun.
The most variety we get of people is in episode four. I don't think this would be a problem if we got some more time with all the characters. I know wintermute is meant to serve as a kind of tutorial for survival mode, but I think it's narrative should be a bit more important considering no super new survival mechanics are introduced. At least in episode three you have to learn about timberwolves and experiment with some different weapons.
It feels like everything's going to be crammed into the last episode. We get hints of a narrative in the first two, but we don't get a whole lot of elaboration in the third and fourth. The only character you meet that seems to have any idea what's going on is completely absent from anything beyond episode two. Methuselah doesn't show up at all for Astrid, which I can think up some kind of explanation for. But he's nowhere to be seen in four when we're back with Mackenzie again.
There's also the player choices featured in the first two episodes. One is easily missable if you're just trying to follow the main plot. The other is commented on by another character as if it was one of many tests of your morals. They didn't have to include player choice in the narrative, but I feel like it opens up a lot of missed opportunities for how the survivors may be changing in this new kind of world.
I hope this long post doesn't sound like I'm complaining to much, but I genuinely care about the story hinterland is trying to tell in wintermute. It nowhere near as popular as survival mode but it's something I (and others I believe) are genuinely interesting. I hope episode five isn't the last that we're going to get of these characters and this story, because I think we'd be missing out on a lot of potential that way.
I love the long darks wintermute but it feels really cobbled together sometimes. I hope at some point in the future we get some edits to previous episodes to help fix some of the issues.
I don't think a whole lot of people are going to read this long post, but please talk with me and others about wintermute because I love to see peoples in depth takes on the story.
