and Toei was like 'okay but in the sequel to that plot their marriage is terrible and he's never home'

1. Ice drinks both coffee and tea, but actually prefers tea. He forced himself to drink coffee for the caffeine to help him stay awake and alert, so now he likes it because of how often he drinks it. (i don’t know that much about the military but i don’t know how many staff rooms are gonna have kettles next to their coffee machines and if military men are gonna openly admit to drinking tea lol)

2. I think a woman in his life, either his mom or grandmother, used to make him a cup of tea every night and it was a part of his nightly ritual. Whenever he gets the chance he tries to keep up that tradition and make himself a cup of tea whenever navy life allows. 

3. Maybe I’m biased but i think Ice would drink any tea (as long as it’s good quality) but i think he would slightly prefer black teas. His mom or grandmother would always put honey and milk in it and he tended to drink green teas when he was sick so he associates them with an upset stomach, stuffy nose or a sleepless night. (or this could just be projecting onto fictional characters)

2. Mav on the other hand always hated tea. like hated it and he only ever drinks coffee. He never understood the appeal of it, if it’s not that caffeinated then what’s the point? And I think he probably only had tea like... made in the microwave, where someone puts the milk in first. No wonder he hates tea.

4. Mav hates tea until Ice makes him tea one night and makes him tea the right way. With an actual kettle and the milk added after the water and tea bags. And at first, Mav feels too bad to tell Ice the truth and say that he hates tea after he went through all the trouble to make him a cup. But Ice’s tea rocks Maverick’s world. he finishes the whole cup. Ice makes him a classic cup of english breakfast or earl grey with a little bit of honey and a dash of milk.

5. Mav will only drink tea when Ice makes it. It doesn’t matter if someone makes Mav the exact same brand of tea, with the same type of honey and milk, Mav only likes Ice’s tea. 

6. I think after the DADT repeal it allowed them to actually finalize and re-establish the tradition that Ice’s family started. Ice makes them both a cup of tea each night while Mav puts on a record. 

7. I feel it deep in my soul that Mav’s mom loved country music, like Tammy Wynette, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Glen Campbell, Linda Ronstadt, Dolly Parton etc etc. Mav would never tell anyone willingly that he knows all the words to Stand By Your Man or the entirety of Dolly Parton’s album Just Because I’m a Woman. (he definitely thinks he should not be listening to them cuz its not “manly” or something) 

8. But after the DADT repeal those are the records and artists Mav puts on as Ice makes the tea, just like Mav’s mom used to do when his dad was around. Mav used to watch his parents slow dance and sing along to Crazy by Patsy Cline. He just wants to share the thing his family used to do, just like Ice is doing as he makes them tea, regardless of how “unmanly” it may seem to himself and other men.

I've had very minor interactions with the AMC's Interview With The Vampire fandom since starting the show last week and so far it seems that the Venn diagram of people simping for Lestat and people simping for Spike from Buffy is a circle. We truly have learnt nothing and I think that's beautiful.

While I was reading your slider oneshot for the third time (sooooo good btw, i cant say enough how much i love your writing), I kept thinking about Ice and Sliders conversation about Carole-[“Me and Carole?” Ice said, thinking it over. He smiled his bitter, bashful smile— “Yeah, we might’ve worked out, once. I won’t get into the details. We tried it out. But I don’t think the timing was right.”]-What is Ice referencing here?? Is he referring to when Carole kissed him? Or did I miss something (entirely possible tbh)? I really felt like Mav when I read that scene ["What do Admiral Kazansky and Carole Bradshaw get up to when he doesn’t know about it?"]

The parallel of Mav being [redacted] with Goose and Carole liking/loving/pining for Ice. Wow! So deliciously complex. What an interesting little love square they have going on. Bradley and his four parents.

But man...Carole really is such a tragic figure in both canon and your fic. But I really really love the depth of emotion that you give her in the glimpses that we get. Her relationships with both Mav and Ice are so interesting and layered. They just feel very real. I really really loved the gimpse of her point of view you gave us in the Dad!Ice fic (the half empty box of cigarettes!! I still think about that)

this is such a sweet ask. thank you. yes he was referring to her kissing him (not really “trying it out,” to be fair, but he’s also trying to “prove” to slider that he’s still interested in women, so he’s using even the most tangential of evidence and holding it up like “see? See? not gonna give you all the details but Trust Me bro we tried it out😎”)

& also here’s from my notes in my printed-out copy of my fics from last OCTOBER (whoa). Referring to the scene in the hospital when Carole gives ice & maverick the instructions to pull Bradley’s USNA app & suggests she & ice have discussed it previously (they haven’t).

Carole is pretty much the only person who is around both Ice & mav enough to know the truth of who they are. (Slider also recognizes this— “ice let Carole Bradshaw see his happiness but not slider… :( que cruel”. And the whole “she is literally the only camera capturing icemav’s happiness on film for the historical record” section of slider

.) And Carole therefore is the only person to whom ice quite literally cannot deny that he & maverick are together, because she… has eyes. And is their best friend. and they’re raising her kid with her. So that sets her up as like a confessional character, in that ice HAS to be truthful with her in a way he isn’t with anyone else, including… his literal boyfriend maverick. so it’s a pretty easy leap for Maverick to be like, It’s a given that ice does not honestly want to be with me, a man -> but he is honest about his feelings with Carole, a woman who has expressed interest in him, behind my back (“what do admiral Kazansky & Carole Bradshaw get up to when he doesn’t know about it?”) -> Omg they’re having a heterosexual emotional affair. Which, like, they totally might be? which is why i keep going back to the *possibility* that they might have worked out once, had it not been for the simultaneous timing of ice falling in love with maverick, since ice is also Bradley’s no. 1 dad figure in my story. Which slider points out.

From a heterosexual family planning perspective, ice & Carole together just kinda makes sense. In a way that everyone in the story recognizes, for better or worse.

he is very tired

his dragon's name is Jormundrax

he never expected to be king- he takes his job very seriously and tries to do his best, but at the end of the day he'd really rather be doing anything else

he was the third born son of six. growing up he and his siblings were all exceptionally close. he especially looked up to his two older brothers

when civil war breaks out between the dragonriding houses, Elaeor joins his father and brothers on the frontlines of the war

both of his older brothers die during the war. their deaths fundamentally change Elaeor as a person

this is also where he gets his facial scar

he also meets his future wife, Daenaera Sunfyre, during the war. she's also a dragonrider from one of the houses allied to Elaeor's faction. Daenaera essentially keeps him alive after the deaths of his brothers

when the dust finally settles and Elaeor's father takes the iron throne, he's quickly forced into the role of crown prince

he resigns himself to his fate pretty much immediately. given that he's just lived through a civil war that was spurred on by a notably bad monarch, even though he does not want to be king, he does not believe anyone else is suited to the task

his father rules for 7 years then abdicates the throne to him. at this point, Elaeor is 25

he and Daenaera wind up having 6 children. he absolutely adores his kids and enjoys spending time with them. his family is pretty much the only thing that keeps him going. man fucking hates his job

however, he's reluctant to abdicate the throne because the idea of forcing his eldest into the same position he was in causes him intense guilt. he really just wants his family to be happy and safe, and he knows damn well that being king definitely isn't conducive to that. he desperately wishes his kids had a way out. he fully views being of valyrian descent as a curse
