I've seen some posts going around on how Alastor is a fraud, and how his powers aren't his own. Most of us agree that he probably made a deal with someone powerful (Eve, Lilith, Roo) in his seven-year-absence. But what about before his disappearance? Everyone only has one soul, and as such, can only make one soul-binding deal, right? Like, Angel couldn't make another deal that involves his soul, because it already belongs to Valentino.

Alastor manifested in Hell, and began toppling Overlords. How? Even if we presume that you are stronger in Hell the eviler/sinful you were in life, all in all, Alastor wasn't the worst of the bunch. Now, information might have changed, but Viv once said Alastor didn't kill without reason (and given his somewhat soft spot towards women, we might be able to deduce the reason), so he still had a somewhat moral compass, even if it was spinning like crazy. Yes, he murdered people, but he could have hardly been the first, so why was he powerful enough to go after Overlords basically immediately? And if he made a deal - he could have, while he had still been alive, made a pact with some eldritch being, those would usually come at the cost of your soul, no?

Him being on a leash is a new thing - if it wasn't, Husk wouldn't have mentioned it. We can also just speculate what Alastor really wants: power? But if it's power that he wants, why did he stop killing Overlords? Was it just to establish his position, and once that was achieved, he stopped? And who would even benefit from a Sinner killing Overlords left and right?

Alastor thrives on chaos, and as far as we know, that's Roo's thing. So if she gave him this power - like what, just like that? After his initial carnage, he didn't stir that much chaos anymore, right? And while he probably took delight in messing things up, if it were up to Roo, it probably wouldn't satisfy her. There's also the issue of us not knowing how powers are attributed after death. I'm not very knowledgable about this, but voodoo deals with spirits closely, no? And we only ever see Alastor call upon small critter minions, instead of "proper" Sinners he made deals with. Did he and the spirits entangle so closely in life that they followed him into death?

Some also pointed out that Alastor freaked out when his mic got broken and that he was powerless without it - I'm not sure I believe that. For one, only the staff itself broke, not the microphone. Second, I think it would've been a focus, rather than the source. So while it breaking surely messed him up, because it wasn't supposed to happen, he doesn't appear worried about it much, after.

Why did he disappear for seven years? Why did he come back? From implications, we can guess he really just vanished, instead of being pubicly defeated. Zestial mentioning "fallen into heavenly arms" was probably really just a rumor that spread around after he went missing - after all, why would Alastor go radio silent if he was still alive?

A deal with Lilith makes sense - why else would Alastor entertain the Hotel? But if it was Lilith, why Alastor, of all people? Lucifer would've been a better option to support his daughter, no? And yes, maybe Lilith was forbidden of contacting her family, but even then, Alastor was her man of choice? And what was the deal, anyhow? Let's say, his end would force him to support Charlie to some capacity, allow her to try the Hotel thing out - what did he get in return? Was he dying, and Lilith saved him? But as a Sinner, Alastor can't truly die, unless he's killed by an angel weapon, no? We don't know when exactly he disappeared, but if it had been during extermination, he would've been labeled "dead" instead of "missing". Also, they all would pester him to learn how to survive an angel weapon, but nobody seems to really care. Did he get more power? Possible, but again, I feel like Husk would've mentioned that somehow, then. Of course, maybe he wouldn't, but still. He noticed Alastor being on a leash, but not increased power? Or had Alastor lost Roo's favour and Lilith promised to return his powers to him? Did he grow to docile for Roo's liking? There's also his Shadow - so far, he's the only character we know with a sentient shadow. He can travel through the shadows - why? Vox being able to travel through electricity makes sense, as he is a TV, but what's got a shadow to do with Radio? And whenever Alastor goes even slightly demon-mode, there are stitches on his body - like a doll would have. If you note, there we can also see his smile being stitched on, so he truly is genuinely unable to not smile. But Alastor is made of blood, at least, and dolls usually don't come with blood packs.

There's no conclusion here, really, as I'm not even sure what I want to say. If you have thoughts about this, let me know? I'd love a civilised talk.

here is a list of community fundraisers I found, starting with those aiming to support the Southport community after the appalling attack at a children dance party, to the fundraisers helping those affected by the subsequent racist and Islamophobic far-right/nazi riots

Southport Strong Together Appeal - organised by the community foundation for Merseyside, for those affected by the Southport knife attack

United for Southport families - the funds will be distributed among the nine families of the children who were at the party

Swifties for Southport - a fundraiser for the Alder Hey Children's charity, which supports the victims and the affected families, as well as first responders and clinicians. Extra funds will also support the wider Southport community

Fundraiser for the Southport Mosque - a fundraiser to aid rebuilding or possibly re-locating the Southport Mosque after the damages it suffered during the riots

Rebuilding Windsor Mini Mart - fundraiser to rebuild the locally-owned grocery store that was targeted during the attacks, broken into, and looted

Liverpool:

Fundraiser for the Spellow Hub - the Spellow Hub was broken into, looted and set on fire at night during the riots. The Spellow Hub is a newly created one-of-a-kind (in the UK) institution, which consists of a library as well as a community centre with a mission to help people get education and pathways to work

Books for Spellow Lane - another fundraiser for the library in the Spellow Hub, to replace the books and rebuild the library there edit: included the correct link

Hartlepool:

Fundraiser for the Nasir Mosque - the Nasir Mosque was attacked following Southport riots; this fundraiser is organised by Hartlepool citizens to help the mosque deal with the damages as well as to show appreciation for the role of the mosque in the community. edit: the funds will be also distributed to the local community!

Rebuilding the Farm Shop - the shop was targeted during the riots, and when the owner and his son tried to protect it, they were also violently attacked. The fundraiser is to help fix the damages to the store.

Sunderland:

help rebuild Citizens Advice Sunderland offices after arson - two of the Citizens Advice Sunderland offices were set on fire during the riots, and one of them is completely destroyed.

Hull:

Hull Help for Refugees - a local fundraiser to support the Hull Help for Refugees charity, the donated money will be re-distributed to community members affected by the riots

Fundraiser for Hull Help for Refugees and Welcome House in Hull - collected money will be donated to the two charities

Belfast:

help fix racially motivated damages - originally the fundraiser for the Sahara Shisha Cafe which was targeted by the far right in Belfast during the riots, now a fundraiser for all affected businesses in the area. edited to reflect the change of the name of the fundraiser to avoid any confusion

Middlesbrough:

Supporting residents after the riots - Middlesbrough has suffered so much during the riots, lots of businesses as well as just regular family homes were vandalised, had their windows smashed or even were broken into. This fundraiser wants to distribute the funds between affected people to help them fix the damages, and to generally support the local community. the newest fundraiser, imo potentially the most urgent one

Fundraiser for a Care worker's car which was set on fire - a car belonging to an employee of a care agency was set on fire during the riots while he was on shift at a care home.

If you want to donate locally but there is no fundraiser to support where you live, consider donating to your local charities oriented towards Muslim or PoC communities, or towards anti-racist and refugee organizations! And go support your local Muslim/Arab/Black/Asian/Refugee owned businesses!

A general tip for students who are sending those dreaded Religious Absence Emails to your professors: Rather than asking permission to take the day(s) off, politely let them know that you will be taking the day(s) off.

In other words, consider not saying this:

"May I miss class on [date] so I can observe [holiday]?"

It's not that there's anything wrong with the above, per se. But because it's phrased as a request, it risks coming across as optional — a favor you hope to be granted. Problem is, favors are not owed, and so unfortunately asking permission opens the door for the professor to respond "Thanks for asking. No, you may not. :)"

Instead, try something along the lines of:

"I will need to miss class on [date] because I will be observing [holiday]. I wanted to let you know of this conflict now, and to ask your assistance in making arrangements for making up whatever material I may miss as a result of this absence."

This is pretty formal language (naturally, you can and should tweak it to sound more like your voice). But the important piece is that, while still being respectful, it shifts the focus of the discussion so that the question becomes not "Is it okay for me to observe my religion?", but rather, "How can we best accommodate my observance?"

Because the first question should not be up for debate: freedom of religion is a right, not a favor. And the second question is the subject you need to discuss.

(Ideally, do this after you've looked up your school's policy on religious absences, so you know what you're working within and that religious discrimination is illegal. Just in case your professor forgot.)
