Posted my last prompt fills for @ghostsfanficevents TenRose Week but neglected to actually link them on Tumblr!
300 words; inspired by the prompt “relationship reveal”.
those who came before
“Tell me about them,” she says abruptly, when Mickey is napping and they have the TARDIS to themselves for a bit.
“What?” The Doctor glances at Rose, puzzled. “About who?”
“Your other… companions. The people you traveled with, before me.”
Oh.

Tress looked toward Crow. And then, Tress took the singular step that separated her from people in most stories. The act, it might be said, that defined her as a hero. She did something so incredible, I can barely express its majesty.
I should consider this more, Tress thought to herself, and not jump to conclusions.
holy crap! logic!

i love that tress's modus operandi is "how about we all just talk it out and be nice to each other?" and then when that doesn't work she does an insane magic trick that nearly kills her

"I love you but you're doing wrong in a way I cannot condone" and "I hate you but you're being wronged in a way I cannot stomach" are top tier and I need more of them.

funniest thing about dnd is that I made my character a failson specifically to make a rich guy suffer, but I keep rolling really high on important things, so everything has been working out for him really well, and his belief that rich people should never face any consequences just keeps getting reinforced again and again

Triple drabble for another @ghostsfanficevents TenRose Week prompt! The prompt was “shared bed” — and I went with some sheer fluff this time around.
cold comfort
“You’re cold,” Rose complains as the Doctor stretches out alongside her, fully clothed, in the very last bed the inn had available.
It isn’t like she’s never touched him before, of course, or never noticed the constant, alien coolness of his skin. But holding a clammy hand while fleeing from monsters is one thing; snuggling up with an ice cube in a shared bed on a winter’s night is something else.

here are some future companion ideas that i think are cool
child companion (like, early teens) - would have to be handled carefully but could be really interesting. kate would have extra incentive to employ them when they leave
companion who is secretly the master (or fobwatched)
companion who is secretly the DOCTOR (would probably have to be fobwatched)
sibling companions where one of them is here for adventure reasons and the other doesn't trust them if they and the doctor are left to their own devices (but they both adopt the doctor as a third sibling without even thinking about it)
sibling companions full stop. i just think it'd be fun
companion who is really secretive about their home life and the doctor (and audience) thinks it's this huge mystery, but then it's revealed that the companion has a completely normal ordinary life and is absolutely terrified that, if the doctor finds out, they won't be interesting enough anymore and the doctor will send them back home
companion who's in the process of doing a phd and goes with the doctor to research their thesis, but keeps getting dragged into stuff when all they really want to do is watch from the sidelines and write things down

The Doctor took me to this planet a while back. It was much colder than this. They called it Woman Wept.

For today’s @flashfictionfridayofficial prompt!
fantastic
“Fantastic,” says the Doctor, staring at the strange ice sea — massive waves towering above them, frozen solid mid-crash. His voice breaks the eerie silence.
Though a second ago she was near-overwhelmed with the awe of it all, now Rose finds herself smirking.
He shoots her a look, just visible in the starlight. “What?”
“Nothing.”
He raises his eyebrows.
“You say that a lot, is all.” The smirk broadens into a full-on grin. “Can’t say it enough. You, me, spooky ocean, monsters trying to kill us… doesn’t matter. Everything’s fantastic.” Rose mimics his inflection on the final word.
“And?” The Doctor snorts. “Can’t people have catchphrases anymore?”
“I’m not criticizing.” She takes his hand. “Just noticing.”
There’s so much to notice, with him. Always something more, some new trait or pattern to store away. Word choice is only the most surface layer.
And she notices now that there must be something about the silence, the stillness, or the midnight stars that’s making him more open than usual — something thawing, for all the cold — because the Doctor adds, softly, “I like to remind myself.”
She glances at him; somehow sensing that there’s more coming, trying to keep as still as that frozen sea. She doesn’t want to say anything, do anything to interrupt this rare moment when he’s letting the walls down a bit. Sharing something of himself, not just an adventure.
“After the Time War…” The Doctor trails off. Pauses. Goes on. “Well, you know, things aren’t always fantastic. So I try to notice when they are.”
He falls quiet again.
Rose squeezes his hand.
After a moment, he seems to shake himself. “Like right now, for instance. You can’t tell me that ocean isn’t fantastic. Want to go for a walk?”
Still holding hands, they stroll out under the waves.

This might be the first New Year's Resolution I've ever kept for this long: I've been commenting at least once on every work I've given Kudos this year (sometimes more than once for chaptered fics). I really couldn't recommend it more highly! It gets so much easier with practice, and my inbox is full of lovely replies from happy authors.
If you liked it enough to leave Kudos, there's something nice to say about it, even if it's just "this was really good!" Just leave a comment!!! :D
THIS IS INCREDIBLE!!!! JUST LEAVE A COMMENT BABEEEYYYYY!!!

For the @ghostsfanficevents TenRose Week prompt “proposal,” I made the rather odd decision of writing a 200-word fic in which… neither one of them actually appears.
It’s still a TenRose fic, though, I promise. :P
ring or no ring
“What I want to know,” says Bev, refilling Jackie’s teacup, “is when that Doctor of your daughter’s is going to put a ring on it. I mean, they’ve been traveling around together, how long now? Past time he proposed, ain’t it?”
It’s funny; when did Jackie start feeling protective of the Doctor?

Still obsessed with Arthur Conan Doyle’s letter to Bram Stoker gushing about how wonderful a book Dracula is, but particularly how it makes such a good template for leaving fic comments, so I’m gonna to a BREAKDOWN:
Just say you loved reading it - “I am sure that you will not think it an impertinence if I write to tell you how very much I have enjoyed reading Dracula.”
Comment on a detail of the craft or structure that impressed you - “It is really wonderful how with so much exciting interest over so long a book there is never an anticlimax.“
Comment on how it emotionally affected you - “It holds you from the very start and grows more and more engrossing until it is quite painfully vivid.”
SHARE YOUR BLORBO FEELINGS - “The old Professor is most excellent and so are the two girls.”
Show appreciation for them as an author - “I congratulate you with all my heart for having written so fine a book.”
Next time you don’t know what to say on a fic you enjoyed, just use the ACD method~

Go-Bags
Bubbele, we have to pack our bags
A change of clothes
Documents
Gold
Some books
Pack your bags, keep them close
You never know when
You'll need to grab them and run.
Motek, pack your bags
You must always be prepared:
When you hear the sound
Loud and long,
Shaking the ground-
You'll know we'll need our change of clothes
Documents
Gold
Some books
Any day now, it could come.
Habiba, pack your bags
Day or night, you must be ready
To take everything important
Lest you leave empty-handed
A change of clothes
Documents
Gold
Some books
We have no time to bring more
Schatzi, pack your bags
Be quick, they're coming soon.
I don't know where we're going but surely
We'll need a change of clothes
Documents
Gold
Some books
Lower your voice and keep close.
Malyshka, pack your bags
Be ready when I say we go.
We are here today, but tomorrow
Only the Eibishter knows.
When the time comes we'll need a change of clothes
Documents
Gold
Some books
If we're to ever start a new life.
Querida, pack your bags
I know we've been here for so long
But soon we'll have to go,
And when we do we'll need
A change of clothes
Documents
Gold
Some books
To bring a piece of home along.
Bassim, pack your bags
We'll be on our way soon.
You must hurry, my child
If you want a chance to bring
A change of clothes
Documents
Gold
Some books
Wherever it is we'll be taken.
My child, are your bags packed?
The journey could be long and I don't know
When exactly we'll have to take them
But I am certain the day will come.
Keep them close, my child
So you always have them near.
When you hear the sound,
When we are taken away from this place-
You knew this wasn't going to last forever-
You will be ready, little one,
Do not be afraid.
They're on their way, don't look back-
Be prepared to greet Mashiach.
A reflection on generational trauma, go-bags, and hope.
