Enough of the trope where memory loss undoes the damage or the corruption or whatever. More content where removing memories just removes the context.

The tragedy of needing to grieve and not knowing what or who you lost or why. The angst of having trauma and being denied the awareness that it's trauma. The suspense of being different somehow and left to wonder how and when. The tension of knowing that something is off and you can't find where it hurts. The Adventure Zone gets it. Kingdom Hearts gets it.

There is an aching inside you and you don't know how it got there.

One of my biggest pet peeves is the assumption that something has to be sad for it to be tragic.

I've always been a big believer of the 'Apollo has an awful love life'/'Apollo is plain unlucky with love' line of thinking but it does bother me that the general reasoning for that statement is given to the concept of 'Apollo is somehow undesireable and thus rejected' (Cassandra/Daphne/Marpessa) or 'his lovers die young and thus their love is unfulfilled' (Cyparissus/Hyacinthus/Coronis). I personally think that's a very unfortunate way of looking at things - not only because it neglects the many perfectly cordial entanglements and affairs Apollo has had, both mortal and divine - but because it presents a very shallow interpretation of the concepts of love and loss and how loss affects people.

Apollo can still grieve lovers that have a long, healthy life. The inherent tragedy of an immortal who knows his lovers and children will die and cannot stop it does not stop being tragic simply because those lovers and children live long, fulfilled lives. The inherent tragedy of loss does not stop being tragic simply because someone knows better than to mourn something that was always going to end.

What is tragic is not that Apollo loves and loses but that loss itself follows him. Apollo does not love with the distance of an immortal, he does not have affairs and then leaves never to listen to their prayers again. He does not have offspring and then abandon them to their trials only to appear when it is time to lead them to their destinies. He raises his young, he protects the mothers of his children, he blesses the households that have his favour and multiplies their flocks that they may never go hungry. He educates his sons, he adorns his daughters and even in wrath he is quick to come to his senses and regret the punishments he doles out.

Apollo loves. And like mortals, there will always be some part of him that wishes to protect the objects of his affections. Apollo, however, is also an emissary of Fate. He knows that the fate of all mortal things is death. He knows that to love a mortal is to accept that eventually he will have to bury them. There is no illusion of forever, there is no fantasy where he fights against the nature of living things and shields his beloveds from death. Apollo loves and because of that love, he also accepts.

And that, while beautiful, is also tragic.

Ok ok, more POTS! Danny headcannons

Danny is like me in the fact that he will sit, hang, float upside down to help regulate issues, and he will very much forget that he has to sit adjust back to sitting normally, let alone standing after.

So he'll realize he's late for something-class, lab, lunch with friends, date with Dick, whatever-and immediately rush to stand, get halfway down the stairs/hall/whatever, and collapse to the floor or crash into the wall

Dick and others have found him many times like this.

Dick starts showing up early, when he can, to make sure Danny annually actually takes time to adjust

It just ends up with Danny falling onto him instead, not that either mind.

Someone gets Danny a salt lick as a joke when they find out it's one of the ones that's helpful. Danny 100% uses it, just leans over and licks it when he knows he needs it. This leads to others, likely Damian, finding the "'highest quality, filled with the best minerals needed' salt licks and stuff for gifts for Danny-either directly from Damian, or given to Dick to give to him-all of them are used and appreciated.

Danny has a love hate terrorism relationship with pickles.

On one hand: salty electrolyte filled treat.

On the other hand: if he bites into one more pickle that isn't crunchy-expecting exceptions for when it's warm on a sandwich or something intentionally-he's going to riot. It will be his supervillain moment.

He's good about eating when he remembers, but if he's in a hyperfixation moment, it can last ages and he'll forget. Tucker makes a reminder thing for him but it's not always helpful.

Once he went so long when he stood up after, it wasn't just black spots and wooziness, he actually passed out, hitting his head on the side of the table and actually cracking a ride l rib and arm landing wrong.

Dick and the others made him promise he'd set alarms. Tim just straight up makes one that visually and audibly reminds him to eat.

They then work together to fit it into his bracelets and then also sell it for others to use.

Shoutout to people with balance disorders

I'm currently at home and not able to work today because of a flare-up of my balance disorder (bilateral vestibular hypofunction/loss). Apparently, the flare-up is happening because I had COVID-19 a few weeks ago, and it has caused my brain to de-compensate for my lack of vestibular function. This is (according to my doctors) super common for people with this after they have any sort of illness.

Because it's not a painful condition, I think people forget how debilitating balance problems can be. The vertigo, the nausea, the blurred vision whenever you move your head, the falls, the people thinking you're drunk, the difficulty explaining your symptoms because they are super weird, not knowing whether or not you need a mobility aid because your legs are fine but you still can't walk in a straight line.

To anyone who has never experienced this, trust me when I say it's really bad. To everyone with a balance disorder, you're all legends and super cool, and you're not alone with this. To all the disabled people out there, don't forget balance disorders this disability pride month!

oh I'll take just about anything to distract me now, anon.

the four nations each have different styles of wings between them. air nomad wings are bright and colorful. water tribe wings are water-resistant. earth kingdom wings run small and largely decorative. the fire nation has dragon wings.

in the earth kingdom, they say the stronger the earthbender, the smaller the wings. toph's wings are so small she can hide them underneath her clothes. the fire nation will point to their small wings and declare it as proof that they are inferior.

in the water tribes, non-benders tend to have duller plumage. katara's feathers are just as dull as her brothers when she's born, but over time her feathers turn a vivid blue. there's still only a scattering of blue feathers when the southern raiders arrive. they don't notice.

air nomads don't need gliders, but they still exist as a mobility aid for those with small or even amputated wings. as the avatar, aang was born with wings with colors from all four nations represented in his feathers- though given how colorful air nomad wings tend to be, this was not enough of a sign.

zuko is a bit of a unique case- he was born with both scaled and feathered wings. it caused quite a stir when he was born- and even more so when his sister was born with normal dragon wings. his left wing- the one with scales- was badly damaged in the agni kai and had to be amputated- leaving him with just his feathered right wing.

life gain is basically useless but can be used as a metric to see who gets to top afterwards, we didn't own any alt win cons when we first played it but alt lose cons like poison or mill effectively deal 20 damage to you, which means having to take off a lot of clothes at once
