What potential did you think canon Adrien had that was squandered when you quit watching in early season 3? What could canon have done better to make you care about him? Is there any overlap with your original salt au?
They could've done so much but did nothing. There was the conflict with Lila, with Marinette and Adrien teaming up together to do something. It would've made the love square stronger, with them becoming friends and trusting each other. There could've been so many Adrinette moments!
Also, Gabriel, his dad, is Hawkmoth AKA THE MAIN VILLAIN. And there's nothing for basically the entire series.
They could've had Adrien bond with Master Fu, it's kinda unfair that Marinette knew so much more and Adrien basically didn't know about his existence (I think he already knew about him in season 3 but there was no content of them, I think?). This would've been a good way to put in some lore, something about Emilie, Adrien noticing the weirdness about her death, or something about past holders and the miraculous in general. This also could've helped Ladynoir, with them bonding over their miraculous and their kwamis.
Just making Lila a bigger threat (and smarter, because she is so so dumb) would've made the show better or at least interesting.
I'm honestly not sure? I think he was always uninteresting to me,,, I used to read a lot of LS fanfictions because it was clearly endgame and the main ship and I think that's just where my interest in him ended. I cared about him because he was associated with Marinette.. I remember being kinda confused as to why everyone was obsessed with him xd So I honestly don't know, but I guess just having a bigger role in the story would've helped.
No, in basically everything. And I'm really happy about that.

This is probably small in the grand scheme of things, but how did Emilie being noble play any impact in the story at all?
I mean, I'd get it if it was just a small detail to help deepen Emilie's character, but why nobility of all things? I don't know, from what I'm seeing so far, the whole "Emilie renounced her noble title" shtick just feels worthless if it's not going to impact the story or add depth to Emilie's character (like maybe upbringing or personal values?).
I don't know. Like everything else, the noble part just feels shallow and means nothing to the story, especially for a character like Emilie, who is the plot device for the whole show. Any detail about her, like her personality and life story, is supposed to influence the story and characters one way or another, namely Hawkmoth since she's his driving force.
So what was the point?
For context, this ask is about Félix's play which says that Emilie gave up her title to be with Gabriel. I'm gonna give a slightly larger section of the transcript of the play for full context, but the relevant but is at the end of the last paragraph:
Félix: The king and queen's twins grew up, each day as different in heart as they were similar in body. The firstborn, curious and brazen, despised life at court and escaped at every opportunity. The younger daughter, well-behaved and respectful, did everything she could to please her parents, and stayed quietly in the castle. Félix: (as Mr. Graham de Vanily) Oh, my queen. Did we entrust our legacy to the right princess? Kagami: (as Mrs. Graham de Vanily) She will fall in line, eventually. Félix: Confident that she would settle down as she matured, the king and queen allowed the curious princess to leave to study beyond the sea in another kingdom. There, she immediately found true love in a humble tailor. Félix: The tailor was making clothes so magnificent that they revealed the beauty of the soul of anyone who wore them. Although it made her parents furious, the curious princess gave up her rank, her wealth and her kingdom to live a bohemian life with the tailor.
Story wise, I have no idea why any of this was added since it adds nothing to canon. It's not like this finally explains why Gabriel and Emilie are poor while Amelie is wealthy. Along similar lines, it's not like Amelie's title has ever mattered. Prior to this play, I don't think that we even knew that she had a title or that she was the younger sister. The play is all about explaining things that we never had reasons to question in the first place.
My best guess as to why the writers wrote this pointless backstory is that they wanted to make Emilie seem even more pure and perfect so they went with the tired old trope of a rich girl giving up material things for the sake of love and art because good pure women don't care about material things! Only nasty, shallow women care about money. (Way to play into sexist tropes, guys.)
There may also be cultural elements at play here given that France doesn't have the greatest history with nobility, so giving up a noble title may be seen as good and pure to a French writer, but I don't know enough about French culture to say that with any certainty. If anyone who reads this blog is French and would like to chime in, then feel free!
While we're on the topic of the play, I wanted to point out that the above quoted passage is why I say that the Graham de Vanily parents can be as kind or as abusive as you'd like to make them. It's incredibly vague and you can read into it whatever you want to read into it. Were they good loving parents who were just upset about their daughter living in poverty or were they miserable controlling classist who Emilie fled England to get away from? It's up to you because you can get both reads from this. The play commits to almost nothing of value. Politicians could take lessons from this impressive level of noncommittal writing.
A better version of the play would have focused on things that actually matter to canon like the details of finding the miraculous and/or Emilie learning she's sick, but you could only have those details if they were coming from Nathalie or Gabriel. Félix is a terrible choice for a character to tell us the show's backstory because he knows so little of it, thus the play focusing on his largely pointless backstory.
#blckwhtepersona#ml writing critical#ml writing salt#Side note but looking up transcripts for this seasons is a total nightmare#The episode names are so confusing I keep thinking the play was in âRevelationâ but it's actually âRepresentationâ#Whoever came up with the names for this season is at the top of my shit list

you are so whimsical i qant to check out this mdzs (..??) because of your whimsical nature thank you sorry im very high and your art moved me emotionally
This is simultaneously the sweetest and funniest thing someone has sent me, thank you.
#ask#non-mdzs#I have a hunch you will not recall sending this to me but I wish to immortalize it.#The progression of me going 'aw' to 'barking with laughter' at the last bit of this message was a delight.#Oh man what to say about getting into MDZS...#I admit I'm probably low on the list of people who should be recommending it.#I enjoy it! But there are also a ton of different adaptations that each do a slightly different thing with the story and characters.#Personally I loved The Untamed (Netflix live action) for how campy the action was. It got emotional but really...It made me laugh.#And I love watching it with people because it also makes them laugh.#(The Untamed changes a lot of plot elements so it isn't looked upon very favourably by many fans. I love it as its own thing)#Don't get me wrong; it *is* a story with interesting things to say and I certainly have written tons of analysis on it.#But it's also a series I spent over a year making parody comics of. It comes from a place of love!#The audio drama is really good and I think it might be the best form of mdzs...however finding episodes is not easy.#The audio drama is also what I'm basing all these comics on!#There is a book (the primary source) An animated series and a comic to check out as well.#Someone probably has a better pitch and recommendation list than I do. I just make the funny comics.

I just watched the first episode of zom 100, and I just loved it!! I loved how they play with colors according to the life and feelings of the main character
I liked that everything starts colorfully, when he is super excited about his new job, happy that he will be able to fulfill his dreams, and with several ambitions

later, when he sees that the company only cares about exploiting its workers, when he realizes that with each passing day it gets more and more tiring to live only for the work, the colors gradually fade, until everything is gray

and when the zombies start attacking, the blood is colored, as if it gives new life to things, although death is involved

and when he finally realizes that the next day he will no longer have to work and live the monotonous life he had, the colors come back!! full of life!!

I loved how they portray that it is easier for the apocalypse to happen than for capitalism to end!
and when that actually happens, the character is so happy to be rid of his miserable life that he ends up being happy to be surrounded by the bloodthirsty undead!
#the first episode was short but i can already see it's a great anime! I'm looking forward to the next episodes#btw it's available on netflix for those who want to watch it too#zom 100#zom 100: bucket list of the dead#bucket list of the dead#akira tendou#animation brain rotting

Thinking about Out of Time, specifically the ending, which, in my opinion, is one of the best Rimmer scenes of the franchise. It's one of those moments- like his sacrifice for Nirvannah in Holoship or his insistence that Lister burn his soldiers in Marooned as a gesture of friendship- that hint at the potential that he has, deep down, of being noble, heroic, kind. What's particularly interesting about this scene, though, is that up to this point, Rimmer has often been shown as having a fascination with power, with militarism and fascist aesthetics. This is among his worst, most dangerous traits. You see the extreme outcome of it in Meltdown, what I think is Rimmer at his most abhorrent; he is the cause of the death of an entire group of people all because he wanted to live out his power fantasy of being a strategic military general, watching the battle at a distance like he describes in Marooned. Of course, as others have pointed out in their own posts, Rimmer's desire for/adoration of power likely comes more from his desire to be loved and prove he's deserving of love, but its consequences can be horrific. In Out of Time, when he encounters a version of himself that is an *actual* fascist sympathizer/apologist, he is disgusted. He is the one who wants to fight and who says, "Better dead than smeg." Whereas his future self says he would rather die than live like rats as the present crew do, our Rimmer would rather die fighting than live a life of ease and comfort while rubbing shoulders with bloodthirsty, power-crazed dictators.
And I think it's really interesting that the episode before this one is Rimmerworld. The aspect I often think about (that I wouldn't be surprised a lot of other fans also often think about) is Rimmer's 550+ years of imprisonment. It's such a disturbing concept, being kept in solitude for that inconceivably long, that its apparent dismissive treatment as a joke and lack of any real impact on Rimmer haunts me a little bit and I'm glad there are a few fics out there that explore the aftermath more thoroughly. But before he ends up in that situation, he 1. Abandons the others- the seemingly only people who have ever come close to caring about him- to die, leaving them to flee in an escape pod, and 2. Creates a civilization of clones of himself that he clearly bases off of the Roman Empire (a notable inspiration for many fascists). The first is significant because it shows the contrast between his cowardice in that situation and his lack of it in Out of Time. But the second point here, about the creation of his civilization, may show why that contrast happens between episodes, the reason for it. The civilization of Rimmerworld, based on an obsession with power, inspired by what we can assume is Rimmer's own idealized view of the Romans and empire in general, is the same that causes his centuries of suffering. So the next episode, when he sees another version of himself willing to get along with the kind of people like those who imprisoned him (who, albeit, were also versions of him)...I don't know, maybe the events of Rimmerworld did have some notable effect on him after all, at least for a while; maybe that's why he was so sure in his decision that the crew fight even though he knows they'll die trying.
Or maybe I'm just being ridiculous and overthinking things
#Sorry! having Thoughts and had to ramble about them#Also I'm blanking on if Rimmer still shows intetest in dictators and the like after series 6#There are still episodes about his admiration with authority (Officer Rimmer Mechocracy etc.)#But besides a comment in Timewave Kryten makes about him collecting figurines#I can't recall many others#Red Dwarf#Arnold Rimmer#Original Post#Oh wait! I remembered he has books listed on his revision timetable in The Beginning#can't recall who by though and I'm too lazy to look it up right now lol

silly episode idea but hear me out
okay well the first part isnât silly! so the episode is based around a con they are doing where a polyam triad wants to get married and have been writing to senators and stuff for years but nothing has happened. maybe there is a time element that leeway has to happen soon (not sure what that would be yet, maybe someone is sick???)
(obviously polycules arenât only and are often more than just a closed three-person system, but Iâm saying triad right now bc I feel like that would be an easier and more âsocially acceptableâ gateway into more accepting legislation for diverse relationship dynamics)
the leverage crew, of course, canât outright change the public perception of poly marriage, but they can use the âenemyâsâ tactics against them and slip stuff into legislation without people noticing like they do. itâs slimy and itâs not a permanent fix, but itâs a start, and it gives people the opportunity to see poly marriage in action and that it isnât as terrifying or pearl-clutching-inducing as they think it would be. thereâs a long way to go, but the seeds of change have been sown and they will make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible
this is one of the cases that they will monitor on the back burner over time. some cons can finish within a few hours (the bottle job), and some things they will follow over time and make adjustments when needed- amplify voices and expose corrupt politicians etc
and then itâs just after 3/4 of the way through but the con has been finished? what is going on? this is where the silliness comes in
the camera turns to the ot3 andâŠ
hardison, pulling out three individualized rings: I know itâs not legal yet, and we have the necklaces, but I think rings would be a nice touch
eliot, pulling out an intricately carved box that also has three self-handcrafted rings: dammit hardison (with feeling and tenderness, and damp eyes)
parker, pulling out three very stolen rings from her pocket: does this mean weâre getting triple married if we all have three rings???
harry pops into the conversation (practically vibrating) excitedly just casually mentioning that heâs a notary and would be honored to marry them to each other if they wanted to
(they do)
wait, did I say silly? I meant unwaveringly tender and heartwarming
#this started out as a funny proposal headcanon but it just turned into sweet and cute#I had a version where eliot proposed first and then hardison went to get his but parker pickpocketed him#but this is more sweet#I know she loves pickpocketing but I feel like she wouldnât take that moment away from him if she thinks it matters that much that way#but also. have you considered it would be hilarious#and omg they have such a good wedding!!! so many people invited!!! sophie has a ball organizing it#(hardison and eliot get veto power of course. parker does too but she only really cares about the cake. as long as she has her boys and her#family sheâll be happy with whatever the wedding looks like. eliot though has Thoughts on catering & hardison stresses about color schemes)#breanna and harry kick their feet and giggle like schoolgirls they are SO HAPPY the ot3 gets their moment#they have been (quietly) (unsuccessfully) shipping them for forever this is VINDICATION#I should link the post about who is invited to the ot3 wedding (list ever expanding)#Iâm literally posting this at midnight but I didnât want to schedule or queue it. I want it out now. instant gratification babey#eliot spencer#parker#alec hardison#leverage ot3#parker x hardison x eliot#leverage#leverage redemption#episode ideas#fic ideas#I know Iâve written a proposal post/ficlet before but I was too lazy to find it#polyamory#ot3 marriage#marriage#weddings#harry wilson#thiefsome#hitter hacker thief#mine
