have you ever thought about yandere geto more specifically yandere CULT geto. cus i do. quite often.
HI ANON hmmm hm hm………… okay so honestly. i’m not super into yanderes at all so i don’t know if i’ll have much to contribute with when it comes to this kinda thing :’3 bUT i do love cult leader!geto to the moon and back + i’ve been thinking of him incessantly lately + i think he’s only a couple steps away from being a yan lol.
geto’s whole Thing is his contrast; he can kill a man swiftly, cruelly, only to go meet his beloved family right after with a genuine smile on his face. (we see that almost instantly in jjk 0!!) he really does have that cruel / soft contrast that i assume a bunch of yan content is built on…. he would treasure his beloved soooo dearly and i absolutely don’t think he’d shy away from killing any non-sorcerers that were giving them trouble… but again!! this isn’t even yan!geto, this is literally just Geto. that’s just how he is in canon 😭😭 he’s willing to go to any lenghts to protect his loved ones, and his own morals are aligned towards his view of non-sorcerers as non-human. he doesn’t see them as human, so why would he feel guilty for killing them?
but ok so to kinda go back to the idea of yan!geto… i think the biggest difference between him and yan!gojo (imo!!) is that gojo is willing to look past his morals to keep you safe, knowing that it’s Wrong but choosing not to care, while geto doesn’t let go of his morals — instead, he twists them until they align with what he’s doing. if that makes sense. to him, doing what he does for you is morally just. so he doesn’t feel shame or guilt for it.
aaaaand this is also why i don’t really feel Equipped to talk abt him….. because yan!geto would probably be a lot Worse than yan!gojo …….. and i’m embarrassingly sensitive to dark content :’3 i can see the appeal and the yan undertones are absolutely There but i think i see cult leader!geto in a very moe light PHJEHSJD he’s… my meowmeow. he can do no wrong. he hasn’t had a single evil thought in his Life <33
SOO to change the subject rq!!!!! kind of!!!! (i’m sorry anon i’ve just been thinking abt more fluffy scenarios w him lately and i need an outlet </3) i genuinely think cult leader geto!would be such a great lover :(( it’s easy to see him as a yan (AND THERE’S ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG W THAT TO BE CLEAR) but i just . genuinely think he would be sooo gentle and loving and silly? protective and possessive and imposing, sure, but he would honestly rather die than hurt you in any way. i don’t think his soul could take it.
like. it’s just so telling that geto canonically lets his family believe what they want, and do what they want; he doesn’t force them to see non-sorcerers the same way he does, he doesn’t keep nanako & mimiko from exploring the world and interacting w non-sorcerers, and so on!! his own beliefs are steadfast, but he doesn’t use them as an excuse to confine the people he cares for. he trusts them and loves them and even though i’m sure he’s paranoid he lets them run free.
so!! i think he would be very patient and accepting no matter what his s/o believed or did. i can see him being a bit a Lot of a helicopter parent but it’s never malicious, it’s just for safety purposes!! he just couldn’t bear to have anything happen to you </3 cult leader!geto is cynical and cautious and he isn’t taking any chances when it comes to your safety. but!! he’s still so silly and doting and i think he’s just so sweet…. 🥺🥺 i’m writing the outline for a fic rn where his s/o works at a regular preschool and he hates interacting with your coworkers in any capacity but he still does it to make u happy … yk??? like how he went with his girls to eat crepes in jjk 0. he just wants to give and give. our acts of service king <333
overall i see cult leader!geto as someone who hides his inherent softness behind a dark exterior, and while he’s far more willing to be cruel than hs suguru was, he never really changed at his core!! he’s just overflowing with softness and care. we see this so clearly in the scene where he’s alone with nanamimi, his girls, and everything is soft and quiet and geto is completely unguarded. and he’s so, so soft. his softness doesn’t even have a twisted hint to it, he just loves you. and he wants the best for you. i think the horror would only come from seeing how quickly he goes from cooing into your ear to disposing of a non-sorcerer with a freezing look in his eyes; the whiplash is scary. but if it scared his s/o i think he’d be hell-bent on not letting you see him like that unless absolutely necessary.
it’s difficult because so much of his character in this stage of his life has to do with cruelty, but all he truly wants at his core is to create a world where his loved ones will be happy :(( where he can protect them properly. idk i just can’t really see cult leader!geto as toxic at the end of the day….. he’s a puppydog to me. a foxcoded, silly little guy. despite his cult leader / genocide loving tendencies i think he would be a very soft, selfless lover <333 overwhelmingly devoted. the weight of his devotion could honestly be frightening and i feel like he could be sweet in a kind of twisted way (something like this) but at the end of the day he’s very particular about only showing you his soft side.
THOSE ARE MY SPONTANEOUS THOUGHTS i’m sorry they weren’t too focused on yan!geto anon :’3 but i hope u got some enjoyment out of them anyway!!! if u have any thoughts of ur own then i’d absolutely love to hear em <33
#im just . a Bit too sensitive to certain tropes and dynamics ……… pshfjehhfvf …. so i just don’t think im equipped to talk abt yans </3#aaaa but. i DO think geto would be a lot more twisted w a non-sorcerer reader!! someone he happened to fall for despite his beliefs#in a scenario like that i think he’d easily slide into yan territory …..#also ive come to the conclusion that i miiiight be moe-fying cult leader!geto a bit too much but i have no plans of stopping !!!#he’s my special little guy <333#i do think that when you look at canon geto he really is just. so soft. he can be cruel but a lot of it is acting imo……#playing the part of his own ideal. etcetc. i see the nanamimi scene + his death scene as the two moments where he’s most Himself#and in both he’s a softie. tender and loving. :( i need to turn him into a smoothie so i can drink him#ask tag ✩

for the orange oc asks; fire, sunset, sunrise, tiger, maple leaf, and eight-pointed star for john 🔥
🔥 (fire) - What drives your character in life? Is it a belief? A person? A goal? Whatever it is, what do they want from it and what are they willing to do to get it?
SHE WANTS TO REGAIN HER STATUS SOOOOOO BAD. She wants to be respected and to be high on the social ladder once more. Regaining that is all she cares about and all she works towards. She lets herself be beat down if there's the slight possibility that the outcome will let her climb higher, she will lie, she will kill for it. She could probably betray those around her for it, too.
🌇 (sunset) - What does it take for your character to trust someone? Do they have to prove themselves? Or does your character not trust anyone no matter what? What made them this way?
Sighs. John really does not trust anyone except for like. 3 people (Sobbing emoji) and it's because she becomes enamored with them and has crushes on them. She doesn't trust anyone to do their jobs properly. This is just because of everything that's happened to her in the past 15 or so years. Before it all, she was more trusting and social, although still definitely completely independent and didn't expect things from others. Okay tbh even with her crushes she doesn't even probably trust them 100%. She's just a bit attention hungry and desperate <3
She does also trust Dante a bit, though, just because Dante has zero reason to hurt her and has never been unkind to her. She's forced to rely on Dante, and this forced reliance makes her a bit more cordial with them. Dante I think is the only coworker she actually cares about the safety of, and actively gets annoyed when people die because it causes Dante pain when they have to turn the clock. John feels bad for Dante, having been forced into this all, and is appreciative of how they've never immediately shut her down.
🌅 (sunrise) - What does your oc look forward to every day? Do they have something to look forward to in the first place? What makes them wake up in the morning? Why do they want to be alive?
SIGHS SHE DOESN'T REALLY WANT TO BE ALIVE. Like she doesn't want to die but she hates living like this. This is such a miserable life, she just wants to be out of it/the situation. She continues to live a lot just out of habit, and the other reason being her desire to be respected once more.
🐅 (tiger) - What makes your character angry? Are they angry often? Does it take a lot to make them upset or are they quick to anger?
Hm... She's sort of permanently angry, although it manifests more as annoyance outwardly. She hates living like this, hates herself, hates what she's become, hates this stupid fucking City that made her like this. She snaps at others a lot, although doesn't necessarily pursue those arguments. Her anger is made worse by those who think they're above her/treat her as worthless, it's only in those cases that she'll really continue an altercation, even despite crying and choking up.
🍁 (maple leaf) - What brings your character joy? Do they find happiness in the small things? Does it take a lot to cheer them up?
ALCOHOLLLLLL (FIRE EMOJIS!!!)
She's almost impossible to make happy. Just forever upset and pissed off. She's at her most "calm" though when drinking, alone and smoking, and having the time to play darts. She's also made happier by being invited to things/included/remembered, but brushes it off. Being acknowledged means a lot to her, but it often doesn't happen, as no one would ever really want her around (sobbing emoji)
✴️ (eight-pointed star) - Is there anyone your oc admires or looks up to? What qualities of this person does your oc admire? Do they want to be like this person one day?
HER OLD SELF. She wants to be revered and strong once more. She also admires Outis a lot, with how she commands a presence, her confidence, how headstrong she is, her physical strength, how she's lived this long, etc etc... John wants to be respected and listened to like Outis. I think with John's jealously and desperation, if she could murder Outis and take her place with no suspicion, she absolutely would.

Oh my god? More fable theories?? In this economy?? No way!
Guess who's still not caught up? Thats right, this guy! My most recent watched vod is sherbs version of Family Reunion. I still have thoughts about it though (:
First of all, I love how much I hate Fable? Bc I can't stand that man and how he consistently gets between the brothers but I love how well his dialogue is written to make the viewers get upset every time he talks. I do have some choice words for him and they're "shut the fuck up", but that's neither here nor there.
Anyway.
So Isla huh? I was wrong about where he hid her but I was right about her being hidden in plain sight. I worry about her ngl, if Fable figures out how to cure her I think he'd also twist her memories so that she's loyal to him. She's not gonna get a choice, especially not if none of the gods get a choice in handing over their powers. That's not ideal (:
I know Rae was angry at himself after the conversation bc he spoke up about being able to help her. Of course Fable twisted his words... but I'm glad he didn't say how to help Isla. I think that was the correct choice. I don't want Fable messing with her head either.
Now, here's the thing. Rae still has some of Enderians power right? So is that the only power he kept? Could he still possess some of Alerions or Perix powers? Bc if so he could probably break into the bubble and help Isla when Fable isn't looking. Ideally he could also make an Isla illusion? It's a very risky idea but we haven't proven that it's impossible.
Alternatively, we are talking to Achrien and Aphrien now. They're literally the gods of entering and exiting. They might be able to help. I mean they might have known Islas family right? Maybe they'd be willing to help Rae break into the bubble so he can break her curse.
Speaking of Achrien and Aphrien, does anyone else think it's risky to just like let them throw books through portals? I mean the coworkers are monitoring Lothestar Grove, I think the whole "throwing books through random portals" is very dangerous for them. Even if Fable thinks that they're dead.
Also, I know Athena wants to talk to their parent... but I think it might do more harm then good to keep looking for them. I mean, Fable knows that Netherum is in the Nether. It's not far fetched that he could just follow our crew when they're searching for them. And then Netherum will die, there's no world in which Fable let's them live. Even if they hand over their powers willingly. Fable will find a reason to kill them. I think the best course of action is to take him down and then figure out where Netherum is, that's the least risky choice...
Anyway! That was all for now, thank you for reading my ramblings and have a nice rest of your day!

What are your thoughts on different Geralt relationships? Shani Essi Triss etcetc
I’m a Yennefer girlie through and through so keep in mind that likely shapes my thoughts on this! Also, I don’t have my laptop in front of me or I’d be pulling text excerpts to illustrate some of what I’m going to say, but I will endeavour to reliably try and remember what I’m talking about lmao
(Also, now I’ve summarised some quick thoughts, this is kinda the relationships/kinda the women he has them with? A rare time you might see me bashing a woman character rip. Warning below that I may have shat on your faves a little, and for mentions of sexual assault/rape.)
• Iola - This is such a one night stand to me. This is Geralt is injured and moping and honestly just takes the opportunity there. It’s pretty clear from his reaction the next morning too. This comes up in the well-referenced Geralt and Sexual Assaults post as dubcon, which admittedly I hadn’t even considered at first, but considering that Geralt is fucked up and barely even remember what Iola looks like the next morning, yeah I can see that. This is such a non-thing to me.
• Triss - People can argue until the sun comes up but I’m willing to die on the hill that this instance was sexual assault/rape. The way she talks about hitting on a “propitious moment”, the use of magic, the fact that Geralt rebuffs her with every attempt at a follow up…This entire moment really changes the overall persona of Triss for me, and shows something really ugly under that sweet helpful girl-next-door exterior. I do not enjoy this ship, at all. And even in the CDPR land where this is endgame, I genuinely could not ever see it lasting. I think the entire “Triss died at Sodden Hill” and symbolism holds true to an extent: Triss is genuinely just chasing anything that makes her feel alive and emotion. I think she’d get bored of Geralt very, very quickly and she’d be onto the next, chasing the thrill and emotional highs. Triss, to me, gives the vibe of the woman who cheats with a married man, gets him to leave his wife, and then ditches him for the next one. It’s not about him; it’s about how it all makes her feel, and escapism from her own damage.
(I actually have said fucked up passage on my phone! This…did not do wonders for my perception of Triss.)
• Shani - Again, I don’t get the hype here. Shani is 17 when Geralt hooks up with her, and quite frankly, that old man is weird as hell for that one. I also don’t see Shani ever seeing Geralt as relationship material. I think her attraction rose from a) attention from an older experienced man and b) fascination about him being a Witcher (I hesitate to say fetishism, but definitely in the same vein). This is one I cannot ever see as a relationship: I genuinely think Shani would get tired of his shit real fast.
• Essi - My unpopular opinion is I hate this entire arc. I hate it, I’m sorry. Essi starts off as this amazing character, who devolves into a teenage girl throwing a tantrum and demanding sex. Sex between Geralt and Essi is incredibly uncomfortable because it takes wearing Geralt down, peer pressure and guilt-tripping to get there, he doesn’t want to, and this is another one I agree is dubcon. I am frankly, surprised more people aren’t icked out by this one. This relationship is one of the reasons A Little Sacrifice isn’t one of my favoured short stories.
• Coral - Complex feelings. I wanted to deck Coral when she’s winding Yennefer up about being pregnant, and Yennefer is quiet and sad. Geralt, stop banging Yennefers mean and manipulative coworkers who are absolutely going to use this knowledge to hurt her whenever works. Coral is such a dick, but at the same time, considering how her story ultimately ends, I find it difficult to really hate upon her, because if that isn’t punishment enough. I do like how we see Geralt draw a line when he realises Coral is not going to help those people, and I like how this relationship characterises him further.
• Fringilla - Fringilla drives me fucking insane. I despise the library scene with every fibre of my being. If Sapkowski had included the Fringilla/Geralt baby from the drafts, as I have repeated many times, I would’ve lost my shit. Fringilla blinds Yennefer at Sodden Hill (leaving her blind for a year and with massive mental scarring) and then has the audacity to be fucking her boyfriend while she knows Yen is being held and likely tortured somewhere, and then has the audacity to actually fall in love with him. Even though it’s her job and ploy for the Lodge, even though Geralt is also playing her, god. Fuck these two for this one.
• Sword delivery girl who’s name I’ve forgotten - Geralt, you’re honestly such a bitch.
#salt warning tbh#like this is messy brain dump on post#and I didn’t end for it to be salty but fuck it we ball#katie txt#asks

01/11/24 - Disappointed Idealist
I quit a what most people would consider a good job back in 2022. Higher than average pay, guaranteed vacation, a 401k. There were a lot of things happening at the time, but the breaking point was when I had spent the entire twelve hours killing myself trying to keep up with a machine because no one was willing to shut it off to fix it. Downtime means no production. No production is bad. Can you keep up with the work a machine can produce? No, but I don’t give a fuck what your fragile little human body is capable of doing, do it anyway because my numbers are worth more to me than you.
And FINALLY the machine broke down on its own. And after a whole day of constant alarms going off and panicked running back and forth and watching as the product came out at a pace I knew I could never possibly keep up with, everything was quiet, and nothing was moving, and I looked around for the first time in almost twelve hours. Bins everywhere, overflowing with product that was going to need to be fed through by hand. Hours of time that literally nothing got done, because THE MACHINE CAN NOT BE TURNED OFF!!!!!!!! THERE AREN’T ENOUGH EXCLAMATION POINTS IN THE WORLD TO PROPERLY EMPHASIZE HOW IMPORTANT THIS POINT IS!!!!!!!!!
If you die on this floor, so be it. But your coworkers are going to have to work twice as hard now to make up for the production time we lost because of your death. We’ll give a speech about how sad your passing was even though I’ll have to look at my cue cards to remember you even had a name, and mention what a valuable asset you were to the company, but never mention how much of your life you missed in the process.
I ran into the clean room and had a panic attack.
And decided at that moment that I was done. I was never going to be a THING for some corporate fucking piece of shit because I am worth so much more than that. Everyone is, but somehow we all kind of forget that, don’t we?
But I can’t forget it anymore. I had another job briefly later that year, but I felt like the worst kind of traitor the whole time. Fucking liar. The anxiety was constant and, eventually, unbearable.
I haven’t had a job since August of 2022. I would rather slowly bleed the system than prop it up, but I don’t want to do that, either. It’s not really DOING something. Its like passively standing by glaring as the CEO parade comes by with their smiles and their floats and their confetti because they know my existence has no effect on them. A single cog worked its way out of the machine, and there are millions waiting in line to take its place. It’s not helping the system, but it’s not hurting it, either. I want to rip it to unrecognizable shreds with my fucking teeth and set it on fire.
And maybe there’s a third option, but I’m not sure what it is or how to access it, if it does exist.
But the reality is that until someone finds that third option, I would rather drain it than prop it up. There are a lot of people who won’t like that idea, myself included, but I’m just being honest.
That might make me selfish. It’s okay, I am selfish. Humans are inherently selfish animals. They’re also inherently loving animals, but it’s a lot easier to focus on that part than admit the other, and in turn we create a toxic existence where a whole part of our very nature is evil and wrong.
I realized I’m not a pessimist, and I don’t hate people. I’m an idealist. I can see how much better everything could be, for everyone, and I see most people actively working against it, and I can’t read minds. I don’t know if they actually believe they’re doing something good or if they’re just trying to make themselves feel better because they think there’s nothing they can do. I certainly don’t know if I’m doing something good. George Carlin said:
“Inside every cynical person is a disappointed idealist.”
I don’t know if that’s true of every cynical person, but I know it’s true for me.

Beautiful Mess - Gojo x Reader
Word Count: 1,675
Warnings: Angst, longing, kinda sad
Summary: Reader comes to terms with her feelings after being faced with her emotions once she sees Gojo again for their monthly battle, even if it gets interrupted.
A/N: I didn't check this for errors cause my computers about to die but I wanted to post this for you guys!
Requests open!
In truth he found you incredible, but would he ever admit it? No. Of course not.
It was moments like this, the stars shining down on you and the wind blowing through your hair that made Gojo pause. He wished things could be different.
You could've been teaching alongside him, or anything else from the life you chose. He frowned to himself. Were you really happy?
At least twenty curses surrounded you. The dark purple aura slowly beginning to cover you from his view as you laughed in the distance. He just wanted a moment more to watch you before the inevitable battle before the two of you.
You knew he was there, close enough to see but too far away to touch. For now, you'd continue on as you were, playfully petting a curse on its head. It resembled a dog and chose to stay by your side, granted it looked and smelled horrendous but you'd take what you could get. They milled about you, waiting for their commands. They were all grade 3 curses, childs play for people like Gojo - people like you. But they weren't supposed to be strong, they were just to garner attention.
After the purple fog fully enveloped you Gojo knew it was time. You stood high on the tallest skyscraper, the clouds within reach.
You always thought Gojo was incredible. Irresistible looks, unbeatable strength, and a massive ego. Time spent with him was cherished, even if it meant small tricks and claims to get his attention but he never failed to deliver.
You heard his footsteps approach slowly, with your back turned the curses began to howl. A small smile tugged on the edges of your lips but you held it back. Slowly you turned to face him.
"Come with me." He said, Gojo had his hands in his pocket with a blindfold covering his eyes. You wondered if you'd ever be able to see them again.
"Traded out the glasses, huh?" You teased, "Do the students find it more intimidating." Sparks lit up your eyes as power began to surge through you.
Gojo smirked and flexed his muscles at you "I was always intimidating, just thought the blindfold added more flare."
He wished they'd stop sending him, the elders always too quick to call upon him once they knew you were involved. They started questioning why the job was never 'finished' they wanted you dead. You were the villain in this story, the creator of curses and sorrow. But how could someone so beautiful be so destructive? It didn't make sense to him.
The first time you'd met Gojo you were both 16. He was a student at the time, sent to a school to take down a low-level curse. It was a teaching method of his Sensei's to send his students alone on smaller tasks - one he ultimately ended up using himself. Instead, he found you surrounded in a purple haze curled into a ball.
You were so small at the time, anxious and afraid with tears streaming down your face. Gojo could feel the power inside you, radiating from your fragile body. It brought him to his knees in front of you. It was the first time you'd ever seen his eyes, hair hanging out in front of his face. He reached out to you, mesmerized by you.
He'd never encountered power like his before, different from his yet so similar in strength. Gojo was so distracted by you that he ignored the scattered limbs of what used to be your fellow classmates.
When he looked at you he was amazed, every single time. But you'd grown now, no longer the scared little girl who didn't know who or what you were. But you knew now. Years of hating yourself for what you were born as, what you'd accidentally do to people. Eventually, you embraced it.
In the years that you'd been actively on Gojo's radar, no one had narrowed down what you were. They knew you were human, a child abandoned and forced into foster care. From what he could tell your emotions were so strong that the smallest offense could make the curses in the surrounding 10 miles stronger and multiply them. You were no longer a grade 3 curse. You were special grade, a girl with explosive feelings that were considered to be on the same level as Sukuna.
You still didn't compare to Gojo though.
"Come with me, (y/n)" He repeated, his eyes desperate under the blindfold. He wondered if she could tell how much he wished she would listen to him.
She shook her head lightly, lowering her head to the ground. "You know I can't do that Satoru."
He nodded in response, he knew she was right. They'd execute her if she followed him back to the school. In a way (y/n) reminded him as Yuji, the elders were cowards whatever they couldn't understand they eliminated. Eventually, they'd meet the same unfortunate fate. Gojo wouldn't be able to protect either of them.
Gojo was shaken out of his thoughts by the sound of a single snap. Looking up he watched as all the curses surrounding her dive off the skyscraper and into the city set loose to wreak havoc. The dog-shaped curse stayed, wagging its crooked tailback and forth.
"Good," He teased, "Was starting to get a bit crowded up here."
The purple haze had almost completely disappeared from the rooftop once the curses left. You took a deep breath, "I'm not ready yet, Gojo. Ten minutes."
He jokingly checked his bare wrist as if looking at a watch "Fine" He pouted "But I'm counting."
You gave him a weak smile, walking over to the edge of the roof and sitting down, letting your legs hang over the edge. You'd be lying if you said looking down didn't make you feel sick, you were at least 100 stories above ground. But the lights were so pretty, the glow of all of them lit up the night, reflecting in your eyes. You felt his presence approach you, standing behind you as you sat.
"Why does it have to be this way?" You whispered, it was so quiet he might not have been able to hear you. It would've probably been for the best if he hadn't.
Hesitantly he placed his hand on your head, giving your hair a soft pat. He made you feel so little, so small in comparison. Just like the day you met. "Because life is unfair to powerful people."
You hummed at his response, "I wish things were different." You tilted your head up, looking at him through your lashes, hair falling in your face. "I wish we weren't such a mess."
"At least we're a beautiful mess." He said grinning down at you.
"I miss your eyes Gojo, why cover them like that all the time?" You asked, still staring at the dark blindfold. You could only imagine what shade of blue hid behind it.
"Decided not everyone should have the privilege to see these sparklers." The smile on his face grew as he said this, quirking his head to the side.
"Can I see them?" The more time you spent in his presence the calmer you felt. Gradually you felt the weight of your powers lift off your shoulder. A calm smile never had any trouble settling on your face whenever you were around him. It was hard to admit, even to yourself, but looking at his shining smile for the first time in months made you realize you'd missed him. "Please Gojo."
His grin faded into a soft smile. Nodding his head, Gojo reached up and began to untie the knot holding the blindfold.
"I think it's been ten minutes, Satoru. What do you think?" The voice made the two of you jump, Gojo's hands dropping away from the halfway untied covering. "Maybe you just got distracted with" He waved his hand around distastefully "This."
"Leave. Now." Gojo whispered, just low enough that the new man wouldn't be able to hear him. He seemed afraid, not of the man but of what would happen if any of his higher-ups found out about the two of you - whatever you were, even if you didn't know yourselves.
He stalked over the man, who was dressed impeccably in a white button-down. He held a wooden paddle tightly in his hand and pushed up his glasses as Gojo walked up to him.
"Look, Nanami, it's not what you think." He said holding up his hands defensively. Realistically he didn't know if his colleague would even believe any lie he could up of in time. Gojo tried to straighten himself out. Putting on his signature smirk, "You know how I get around the ladies. They just can't help themselves."
Nanami let out a sigh, looking at his friend with pity. "The way she looks at you... it's like she'd be willing to take a bullet for you." It wasn't normal the way you looked at Gojo. Like he was the sun and you were a flower stuck in the shade. "And I'm sure under that ridiculous blindfold you were looking at her like that too."
Gojo stayed quiet, the fake smirk dropping from his face. The silence hovered for a moment, making his chest fill with dread as Nanami thought it over in his head.
Suddenly he turned, beginning to walk towards the exit. "Come on, let's go."
"Are you going to tell anyone?" Gojo asked as he followed his coworker. He wrung his hands nervously together.
"No."
He let out a sigh of relief. A small smile began to tug at his lips, he was grateful to the blonde, not many people he knew would risk helping him like this. Subtly he looked over his shoulder.
Thankfully you were already gone, thankfully you were safe. At least for the time being. As he stepped towards the stairwell to make his way down the skyscraper, Gojo realized one thing:
You never got to see his eyes.

Dancing With Our Hands Tied
In order to keep Y/N safe from danger, Spencer vows to keep their relationship a complete secret from everyone they know. However, as their romance gets more serious, Y/N and Reid begin to realize that no matter how in love they are, they may have been doomed from the start.
A/N: Back at it with a hopefully very angsty fic! This is of course inspired by the Taylor Swift song, but you don’t need to be familiar with the song to read and enjoy! Also I made a playlist for this one shot, which you can find here (its best if you listen to it in order and of course you don’t have to listen as you read, but if you enjoy that kind of thing, I thought it would be fun). Additionally, in order for the timeline of this fic to make the most sense, I’m choosing to ignore the Lauren Reynolds subplot, because trying to incorporate it and explain it would be distracting and unnecessary in my opinion. Thanks for reading!
Pairing: Spencer Reid x Fem! Reader
Type: Angst
Word Count: 3.9K
Content Warnings: Some cursing, general fighting angst, discussion of pregnancy, brief mention of abortion (follow up is left intentionally ambiguous, based on your own desires and beliefs you are allowed to decide where that aspect goes (pro choice tings))
“I, I loved you in spite of Deep fears that the world would divide us So, baby, can we dance Oh, through an avalanche?”
Spencer Reid hated funerals.
Somehow he felt he was always invited to one, and no matter how hard it was for him to be there, he always made every effort to go. So when Hotch had to plan Haley’s funeral, Spencer knew he had to go, no matter how much he would hate it.
He looked down to the grass as his supervisor cried over his now dead wife, the most emotion he had seen from him ever. He refused to look up and watch, although there were at least a hundred people there to mourn Haley, this moment felt innately private to Hotch. Spencer didn’t think it was his place for his eyes to intrude.
So he stared at the lawn and got lost in his own mind.
Right then and there he realized he never wanted to go through what Hotch had to go through. No matter how many philosophers described love in the most beautiful, enchanting way, Spencer didn’t want it anymore.
He didn’t want to go through a heartbreak, because how worth it could it be?
Of course, all information he had in his repertoire pointed to the claim that it was worth it. Yet he couldn’t pay attention to Oscar Wilde, trying to tell him that “hearts are made to be broken,” or E. A. Bucchianeri screaming that “grief is the price we pay for love.”
All he could see at that moment was the most stone-faced man he had ever known, breaking down in front of everyone he knew over the woman he loved.
At that moment Spencer Reid vowed to completely give up on love. He would become the best profiler to ever live. People would compare him to Jason Gideon, but Spencer Reid would win every time. Spencer wouldn’t let himself be like Gideon and get so hung up over a person that he couldn’t ever work anymore.
So when Spencer left the funeral and went to bed that night, he was confident that he would sleep alone like that forever. It was comfortable like that and he was happy. Who needs to be in love?
Not Spencer Reid that’s for sure.
Well, until three months later, when Spencer Reid met Y/N Y/L/N.
She was beautiful, and Spencer knew he wanted to get to know her the first time he laid eyes on her.
But he was doing such a good job recently…. Even Hotch was impressed with his work ethic. The only one who had talked to him about his lack of emotion was Penelope, she seemed concerned when Spencer told her he didn’t want to meet let alone go on a date with the cute nerdy barista from her go to coffee shop. Spencer refused to reason with her, he was too focused on proving himself to Hotch and the rest of the team.
Even though in the back of his mind, Spencer knew he had already proven himself to the rest of the team, now he just needed to be good enough for himself.
A truly impossible task.
But he was still trying to do it, so he didn’t talk to the barista at the new coffee shop he was trying.
He wasn’t expecting her to try and talk to him. Maybe that’s why he was so willing to give up his own reasoning.
“That’s a lot of sugar, sugar. Are you as sweet as your coffee?” she said, giggling as she did it. She knew the line was cheesy and stupid but she had been eyeing Spencer Reid since he came in and knew she needed to get his attention. Luckily, he couldn’t help but laugh.
Their first date was right then and there. They got distracted and talked till closing, Y/N’s coworkers noticing she was actually putting herself out there and deciding to pick up her slack so she could continue.
“So are you going to call me Dr. Reid or were you just leading me on for 3 hours?”
“Of course I’ll call you, how else am I going to get you to watch Doctor Who?”
Y/N smiled, “Well I know this is kind of forward, but I have this art exhibit tomorrow, I would love to see you there. But don’t over think that! I’ve invited pretty much everyone I know. I have a bet to win amongst the other art students, whoever has the most people come to see them wins one of those giant Costco sheet cakes. I need that sheet cake Spencer.”
Spencer smiled, “Well, I am from Vegas . . . Maybe I could help push the odds in your favor.”
“Well I can’t wait to see you there. Tomorrow, 6 pm, I’ll text you the details.”
It was only when he laid down to sleep that Spencer remembered his philosophy on love, but strangely, he did not care.
He may have been trying to freeze his heart, but Y/N was coming in with a blowtorch.
And he didn’t mind. In fact he unlocked the door to let her in.
So when he arrived at work the next morning, he fully intended on going to her art show. He thought about what flowers to bring her. . . was this a date? Was last night a date? Were roses too strong a message? He couldn’t do anything red, it was too forward. Pink? What if she saw it as stereotypical because she’s a woman, maybe she hates pink?! Yellow Tulips were safe, but if he got her yellow tulips then she would think they were just friends and Spencer didn’t want to be just friends.
His internal debate was interrupted by none other than Penelope Garcia, but not to interrupt their paperwork day with a case, but to make an announcement to the bullpen.
“Hello my loves! I have an interesting idea for some team bonding tonight, my favorite barista and dear friend has invited me to her school art show. Of course she needs the most support humanly possible, so you all need to come with me and look at cool art!”
“Who’s this friend of yours Penelope?” JJ asked.
“Oh Jayge you’ve met Y/N! She’s lovely and I’m sure an incredible artist. You guys will all love her!”
Suddenly Spencer remembered Hotch and his broken down faces at Haley’s funeral. He remembered his philosophy on love and his fear of heartbreak.
But he also remembered how alive he felt with Y/N. How the way she laughed like a little kid and how that made him feel giddy. He remembered how she was always so interested in what he had to say. He remembered that he really liked her.
And at that moment, Spencer realized that he did not have to choose between being in love and keeping his heart safe from the devastating heartbreak of seeing his true love die. He realized that the reaper could only find Haley because Hotch let people know they were together Because everyone knew of Hotch’s wife, she was in constant danger.
Maybe if he kept Y/N secret he could still be with her.
“Spencer! Did you hear me?”
“No, um sorry Garcia what did you say?”
“I asked if you were going to come to Y/N’s art show, you know you too would make such a cute couple! You should totally come.”
“I actually can’t, I’m not feeling well.”
She sighed, “That’s what you said last time I tried to get you two together 187 . . . Do you want to talk about anything Spencer? You haven’t been yourself lately.”
“I’m fine, I just have a headache. I don’t want to go out tonight.”
She rested her hand on his shoulder for a second, before following Morgan to the kitchen. Spencer knew she was going to say something to him, but he didn’t care. He had found the perfect solution to his conundrum.
And he knew exactly what flowers to send to Y/N.
Y/N texted him thirteen times, and waited an extra hour after the open house closed in case he showed. So although she went home empty handed, one person away from enough cake to feed fifty, she received a call from Spencer Reid.
“Hey, where were you tonight? I was looking forward to seeing you.”
“I’m sorry Y/N, something came up, but I have something for you! Are you still there?”
“Oh no, I just got to my apartment. I can send you the address.”
“I’ll be over as soon as I can.”
And five minutes later Spencer was at Y/N’s door, with Chinese take out and white peonies, a flower known for its apologetic symbolism.
Y/N blushed, “You didn’t have to bring me flowers Spencer . . .”
“Well I wanted to bring some to your show, but I figured this could be the next best thing . . . And maybe we could eat some of your Costco sheet cake afterwards. Sounds like a balanced meal to me.”
“Although I love that idea, I unfortunately came home tonight sheet cake-less.”
Reid frowned, “How close were you? Would I have made any difference?”
“Oh no!” Y/N lied, “I was way off, don’t even worry about it.” She smiled, “I’m just excited that you're here right now.”
Spencer blushed and looked down at his feet, “Well I’m excited to be here.”
Four months after that night, Y/N asked Spencer a seemingly stupid question while they were eating take out at her apartment. “Spencer, I love takeout and all but we haven’t gone out in public together since the first time we met. . . Call me stupid but I’m starting to wonder if you don’t want to be seen with me.”
Spencer sighed, “Y/N, it’s not that it’s just . . . complicated.”
“I just don’t get it. Am I the second woman or something?”
“No! Absolutely not! You are my one and only flower,” he said, smiling and then leaning in to kiss her nose. She giggled in response, but quickly remembered the serious nature of their conversation. “Y/N, you know what I do for a living.”
“I don’t understand what that has to do with anything.”
“Not too long ago, my boss was targeted by a serial killer who made it his mission to make his life miserable. In doing so he killed his wife. I just . . . I don’t want that to happen to you Y/N. I think I’m falling in love with you, and I can’t put you through that.”
“Spencer . . . I love you too.”
So no matter how badly Y/N wanted to tell her family, or update her Facebook status, she respected Spencer, and although she didn’t completely understand his concerns, she wanted him to be happy.
So she spent ten more months like that, catering to Spencer Reid’s peace of mind. Pretending to smile as he told her stories of all the funny things his team members did, all about their partners, and their love lives.
A couple times now, Y/N asked Spencer if she could meet them, but Spencer always shot it down. When he first mentioned the idea of keeping their relationship a secret, Y/N had secretly hoped it would be one of those things that was forgotten about within a week or two. But no. It had been many, many weeks, and Spencer still didn’t want to be seen in public with her.
And by now that was all she wanted. To go on a real date, to introduce him to her friends, to actually be able to tell her coworkers that something did come from that guy she hit it off with.
Everyday, Y/N felt she did the same exact thing, she went to work, would come home and if Spencer was still in Quantico, she would convince him to come over. (They had been dating for over a year now, and Y/N had never been to his apartment. She didn’t even know where it was). If Spencer did come over, he would usually bring some kind of dessert with him, and they would talk and be merry in their own little secret oasis. A couple weeks ago, Y/N started to get this uncomfortable, uneasy feeling that encompassed her whole body, her whole being. Every part of her was trying to tell her that Spencer Reid was not the man for her. And even though she was still very much in love with him, she agreed.
Although she loved Spencer for the person he was, the man who brought her every different flavor of cheesecake from the bakery across town (one a day for fifty nine days straight), the man who begged her to make him a painting for valentines day instead of buying him a present, the man who cried when she did and laughed when she did and-
There were a lot of things to love about Spencer Reid, but there were a lot of things to hate about their relationship.
She hated the time she bought a gold locket in the shape of a heart, and put a picture of them in it so she could keep him with her all day long, and he made her return it because it could fly open and someone could recognize him. She hated the day she came home with a little beige kitten named Betsy and Spencer made her give Betsy to her sister so that he wouldn’t get cat hair on his clothes and have to answer a million questions. She hated the time Spencer missed her birthday weekend because he had a case and couldn’t give an excuse to why he couldn’t go. She hated that Spencer was her entire life, while she seemed like just an inconvenience to his.
And most of all, she hated that she loved him so much. Because deep down she knew that she could never leave Spencer Reid, but she also knew that there was no way they could last if nothing changed.
Just then Spencer knocked on her door, she had offered him his own key many times, but he declined because he didn’t want anyone to see it on his key ring and ask what it was for. She let him in, and right away his fun perky smile dropped. “You’ve been crying. I can tell.”
“Is that the kind of thing they teach you in FBI school?”
“Yes actually, but that’s not the point,” he said, dropping his bouquet of red chrysanthemums on Y/N’s coffee table and grabbing one of her hands with both of his. “Talk to me Y/N.”
She sighed, “I love you Spencer, but I just don’t know if we can do this anymore.”
“What do you mean flower?”
“Spencer we’ve been together for over a year-”
“One year, two months and five days,” he corrected.
“Yes, yes that. We’ve been together for one year, two months and five days but no one except us knows that.”
“Y/N I thought you were okay with that, I just want you to be safe.”
“I thought I was okay with it but,” she paused, afraid of what she wanted to say, “I’m not Spencer, I don’t want to live like this anymore. I love you, and I want to be with you. To really be with you. What happens if we ever get married, do we have to get eloped, would you even let us get married because you need someone else to watch? When do I get to tell my mom I’m in a relationship? What if you get hurt out in the field, and no one has heard of me, let alone knows to call me, and we never get to say goodbye? How far do you plan on taking this?”
Spencer grew flustered, “Um, I- I don’t know? I didn’t know you were even thinking about those things.”
“Do you think about those things? Things like getting married?”
“You’re the love of my life Y/N, of course I do.”
“Well then something needs to change. We can’t live like this anymore.”
“Things will get better Y/N, I promise you, we’ll start small but I’m going to make this better for you. Actually, um we can start right now,” he started digging through his messenger bag. After a minute, he pulled out a smaller gold heart locket than the one you had originally purchased for yourself. “I, um I was going to give it to you for your birthday, but I feel like now is the best time. I couldn’t find the same one, but it’s the same picture inside.”
She teared up, “I love it. It’s perfect. Here, put it on me.” She turned around and pushed her hair to one side so that Spencer could clasp the delicate chain around her neck.
They kissed, and afterward Spencer spoke, “I hate to ruin this moment, but I’ve had to use the bathroom ever since I got here.”
Y/N laughed, “Ok go, I’ll be waiting.”
While waiting for her love to come back, Y/N admired her flowers. Ever since Spencer began to get her different flowers to symbolize different things she had developed an abnormal botany fascination. She would always beat Spencer to explaining the symbolism of her latest bouquet, so she already knew the red chrysanthemum was a symbol of prosperous, passionate love in most countries. However she also knew that in Italy, chrysanthemums were a death flower, given only at funerals.
Part of her couldn’t help but wonder if some unconscious part of Spencer’s genius brain was beginning to feel the same way she did. Three weeks later nothing much had changed in the state of Y/N and Spencer’s romance. She was still unheard of in the eyes of the BAU and two nights prior Spencer had stopped her from calling her mother to tell her about him.
And then Y/N discovered her sick, uneasy, all over body feeling was not just her incredible intuition.
She was pregnant.
She had taken a couple of tests a while prior and could just now get into the doctor to get it confirmed. But it was official. She was pregnant.
As soon as the nurse confirmed it she broke down crying. And when she asked her a couple more questions, she broke down even further. “Are you currently in a relationship?”
“No,” she sniffed.
“Do you know who the father is?”
“I don’t know,” she sobbed.
“Sweetheart, I don’t know where you want to go from here, but there’s a lot more options that you may think. Everything will be okay.”
Y/N still cried the whole way home.
She spent the rest of the day thinking about how to tell Spencer, and then overthinking what he would say.
She knew Spencer loved children, but he couldn’t even manage to tell people she existed, how was he going to explain a long term relationship and a baby?
It would have taken decades for Y/N to prepare to deliver this news, but Spencer showed up at 8:19 pm.
“Hi flower! How are you today?”
“I’m pregnant.” She blurted out, she was not planning to do it exactly like that, but she panicked.
“What?”
“I’m pregnant Spencer.”
He sighed and ran one of his hands through his hair, “You could get an abortion?”
Y/N lost it. “Are you kidding me? Are you fucking kidding me Spencer?”
“I don’t think a baby is going to be very easy to keep a secret Y/N.”
“Is this how far you’re willing to go Spencer? You want to keep me hidden so bad that you want me to get an abortion? Are you insane?”
“You’re right, Y/N, I’m sorry, we’ll figure something out.”
“No, you’re wrong there Spencer. I’ll figure something out.”
“What are you talking about?”
“I can’t do this anymore. I’m done. I love you but, please just get out of my apartment.”
“Y/N please don’t do this, I love you, we can make this work. I know I haven’t been doing the best job for these three weeks, but just give me a little time and I promise we can do this.”
Y/N wiped tears from her eyes, then reached her thumb up to Spencer’s face, wiping his cheek. “Spencer, it’s not a matter of how much I love you or you love me. Sometimes, things just aren’t made to work out. We gave it a good run, but no matter how hard we love each other, I don’t think either of us is happy.”
“But I don’t know how to live in a world without you in it, flower.”
“I’ve never been in your world Spencer, after tonight, nothing in your life will drastically change. You don’t have to worry about living in a universe without me because you’ve already been doing that for 15 months.”
“Please don’t do this, can we just give it another try?”
Y/N wrapped her arms around him, “That’s all we’ve been doing.”
The couple stayed in silence like that for a couple of minutes before Spencer spoke. “Can we just stay here for one night. I can’t believe I never got to do it.” Spencer had never spent the full night at Y/N’s place because he always worried that he would forget to answer his phone and the team would try to come to his apartment to tell him they had a case.
“You know we can’t do that Spencer,” she sighed, knowing she had to stay strong and act on her own best interest, but she also loved Spencer. “But you can stay here, if you want.”
He thought for a moment. “Okay, um do I need that key you always offered me? To lock up when I leave?”
“No, the front door locks automatically when you close it, you just have to make sure you have everything before you go.”
And so Spencer slept in Y/N’s bed, for the first time, without her in it.
And Y/N called the one person she knew Spencer would never try to track her down to to avoid exposing himself.
Penelope Garcia.
She of course let Y/N stay with her for the night, and although she would eventually, Garcia did not pry when Y/N said she didn’t want to talk about what was going on. So Y/N walked to her apartment with peace of mind, she knew that although she had a lot to think about, for the time being everything was going to be just fine.
On the way to Penelope’s apartment, Y/N saw a flower vendor. She couldn’t help but stop by and pick up a bouquet for Penelope, but more so for the symbolic meaning.
Daffodils and daisies.
The flowers of new beginnings.
“I'd kiss you as the lights went out Swaying as the room burned down I'd hold you as the water rushes in If I could dance with you again”

For Ethan (MC is not there)
Where do you see him in five years (both professionally and in his personal life?)
What specifically do you find attractive about her?
Last thing she texted you?
If she asked you out on a date, how would you respond?
Hello Hello Bree! My weekly dose of sunshine has arrived! 🤗
Sorry this took so long I am literally neck deep in assignments.
Anyways can I just say that these questions were just brilliant!! Book 1 is so close to our hearts and Ethan MC dynamic back in the day was priceless. 😂
Just a fair warning this contains a lot of pinching noses and rolling eyes because that's what book 1 Ethan used to do all the time. So now let the fun begin! 🤩
The setting for this answers is: Post Chap 15, before the ethics trial.
Ethan : Remind me again why I am doing this?
Meera : Because you are unemployed and have a lot of free time, also because I asked nicely? (with puppy eyes)
Ethan (Rolls eyes)
FOR BOTH
When I first saw them, I thought__________
*Both of them wait for each other to answer*
Ethan : You go first, this was your idea.
Meera : Oh boy. Why do I have the feeling you are going to hate me even more after this?
Ethan : I can't hate you more than I did when I first met you.
Meera (expectantly) : So you are saying the hatred for me has declined since then?
Ethan : Just answer the damn question.
Meera : Okay fine. I thought "why is this person being so rude to me? I am still a kid I am still learning. Such an asshole, gotta keep outta his path."
Ethan (looks at her amused) : I thought "ah shit here we go again. A new bunch of nerve wrecking idiotic interns incoming."
Meera (dramatically opens her mouth and places her hands on her chest) : Ouch! Rude!
Ethan (sly grin)
What is your coworker's most used swear word?
Meera : Jesus. Christ. Jesus Christ. He is religious that way. (winks)
Ethan : Very funny Rookie. She on the other hand has an explicit vocabulary in slangs but I think I have heard holy shit, holy cow, holy fuck the most.
Meera (excitedly) : See I am religious too. Also look at us twining in swears.
Quick: What color are their eyes?
Meera (immediately) : Ocean Blue! No, Celestial blue!
Ethan (looks at Meera, surprised)
Meera (suddenly concious) : Blue. Just plain simple blue.
Ethan (thinks for a moment)
Meera (puts a hand over her eyes)
Ethan : What are you doing?
Meera : I won't let you cheat.
Ethan : Cheat? I don't cheat.
Meera : Ofcourse the great Ethan Ramsey doesn't cheat. Then go ahead and ans---
Ethan : Dark brown.
Meera (impressed with him)
Three people at work your coworker hates?
Meera (heaves out a long dramatic sigh) : Ask me whom he doesn't?
Ethan : I tolerate most of them though.
Meera (chuckles) : I think it'll be Dr. Thorne, Dr. Myles and Dr. Hirata. Atleast these are the ones he complains about the most.
Ethan : Hmm. Fair enough. Bose here obviously hates that back stabbing "friend" whose name I'd rather die than learn. And I think Dr. Emery and Dr. Mirani also falls under this list.
Meera : Full point for the first one, but I think Aurora is a good person overall, she has some issues, which we need to work out. And I don't hate Zaid, I just don't like how he is always in a grumpy melancholic mood.
Ethan : Which is very justified of him given that he has to work with the interns the majority of his work hours.
What is your coworker’s strangest or most endearing quirk?
Meera : Easy, pinching the bridge of his nose and rolling his eyes when annoyed, which is all the time by the way.
Ethan : I think adjusting her glasses when it threatens to slip from her nose and forming her lips in a strange way when concentrating.
Bree : I am sorry doctor could you just explain the last part better.
Ethan (rolls his eyes and tries to do his best impression of Meera's pout)
Meera (chuckles) : That's not how it's done, Ethan. This is how it's done (pouts)
Ethan : Yeah same thing.
If they had a crush on anyone at work, who would that be?
Ethan : Crush? What are we? Highschool students? I am not answering that. (prepares to leave)
Meera : I think it might be Dr. Emery.
Ethan (stops short on his way out, turns around and takes a seat again) : Really Rookie? Fine you want to know her crush? It's that scalpel jockey, or that paramedic guy she is so friends with or maybe that other Indian intern roomate she has.
Meera : What! No. They are my friends. What made you think that?
Ethan : What made you think Harper is my crush?
Bree : Okay doctors let's move on to the next round.
Never have I Ever:
come into work hungover
Meera : Nope!
Ethan : Never. We are doctors we might get someone loose their life.
had a fistfight
Meera : Yes.
Ethan (looks at her unbelievingly) : I thought you were the harmless kind.
Meera (smugly) : I am mostly harmless, untill you get on my bad side. What about you?
Ethan : I'll have to say no.
Meera : You punched Nash though.
Ethan : He didn't punch me back, so doesn't count Rookie.
been kicked out of a bar
Meera : Unfortunately yes.
Ethan : Unfortunately yes too.
Meera : What?! The great Ethan Ramsey?
Ethan : Stop calling me that. I am a human afterall and I had some very stupid friends back in med school.
gotten a tattoo
Ethan : No.
Meera : Yes.
Ethan (smirks)
broken someone’s heart
Meera : Not that I know off
Ethan : I am not proud of it but yes.
been in love
Ethan : No.
Meera : Expected. For me it's yes. Maybe it didn't last but I can't say what we had wasn't love.
For Meera (Ethan is not there)
Where do you see him in five years (both professionally and in his personal life?)
He thinks he won't practice medicine anymore because he can't solve Naveen's case but I know he won't be able to resist helping people and ofcourse that is what Naveen always wanted. So, professionally, he is doing wonders. Inspiring thousands of hearts, guiding hundreds of young doctors and saving millions of lives. The diagnostic team has becomes globally recognised. He has written another book or two. Maybe won the Lasker Awards.
Personally, I hope he is happy and not lonely. He needs someone by his side. Someone who can tolerate his sarcasm and critisisim. Someone who will put a smile on his face when he wakes up beside her. Maybe he'll have a family, if that someone is really strong-willed. (let's out a dry laugh)
What do you find the most impressive about him?
His passion for what he does. He just lights up and enrapts the entire room when he speaks about medicine. And I just get lost in the sea of passion in his eyes. Also his stubbornness and unwillingness to give up is really impressive.
Last thing he texted you?
I'll show you wait.
He ordered about half a dozen books on Medical Law and Ethics for me.
If he asked you out on a date, what would you say?
(stays silent for a long time)
I don't think so he will. Like the chances are really really thin but trust me if he does I wouldn't dare say no. (colour rises to her cheeks)
But yes that's in a different world. A world in which we don't live. (sighs wistfully)
For Ethan (Meera is not there)
Where do you see her in five years (both professionally and in his personal life?)
If she manages to save her lisence she'll be a wonderful doctor. She'll save innumerable lives and be one of the brightest stars in medicine. I am sure she'll secure a spot on the DT and maybe even lead it someday. She'll make me proud. (smiles genuinely)
Personally I hope she'll be with someone who loves her more than anything and that she is with literally anybody else but that scalpel jockey. She'll have a loving caring partner who'll cook her meals when she comes home from a twelve hour shift. She'll have amazing friends especially the ones she has now. They really love her and they didn't think twice before helping her out with Mrs. Martinez's case.
Maybe she'll have a family. A few kids who will also grow up to show a stunning reflection of their mother.
What specifically do you find attractive about her?
Ethan : I can't say attractive but I'll say I like her personality. She has a magnetic one that makes sure to turn heads any time she walks into a room. Also I love that she cares so deeply about people and she is willing to go out of her way to put a smile on these people's face. Like for example Mrs. Martinez.
Bree : So is this "like" or "love"?
Ethan : Did I? Did I just say love? I am so sorry I meant like.
Bree : Could you enlist something physically attractive about her?
Ethan : If I have to. I'd say I love, er... like, like her laughter. It literally brightens the entire room. (blushes)
Last thing she texted you?
"Thank you Ethan"
If she asked you out on a date, how would you respond?
(sighs) I would feel lucky to go on a date with her, but right now in this situation? It's too complicated. I can't jeopardize her career, so it's a no form me, despite my actual feelings.
This was so fun! Thank you once again @jamespotterthefirst

Sheathed Claws (Part 1)
(Yandere Fukuzawa feat.Ranpo as his evil sidekick)
Summary: As a former Assassin himself, the formidable Silver Wolf Yukichi Fukuzawa can see through seemingly perfect disguises. You really should not have chosen ADA to work after fleeing the Order of the Clock Tower.
Notes: I wrote this instead of polishing my Tetchou fic, someone yells at me to do things in order- You can sense clear parental issues here, so enjoy! The reader’s ability is modelled after Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights, the ability to control air currents. She is a former assassin leader of the Order of Clock tower, her superior being Lady Agatha Christie. I could have wrote this as a full fic, but I got too excited about a Mori fic and just...went with easy way with this one. The next part would be out next week by the latest.
Special thanks to @killuwumi and @bungoose for beta reading this mess! You guys are the best :))
Warnings: Female reader, Power imbalance, possessive behaviours(in future chapters), mild yandere themes, Ranpo gives horrible relationship advices
You thought your facade is good enough, that your acquaintances are none the wiser. And you are correct, at least to a certain degree. But for a fellow former Assassin, it is not that difficult to decipher from the way you carry yourself. Fukuzawa, the president of your current organization, for one.
You had paid an old friend a good sum, who happens to be a government official, to cleanse your dirty past. Nobody would find anything now, not even yourself.
To avoid any suspicions, you created this bubbly innocent girl mask for your coworkers, to gain their trust so even if the Order finds out about you they would have a hard time pursuing you. You never were particularly close to anyone, even when you let Naomi come to your shopping trips from time to time after her endless pleas. “Your western style is just so cute! I want to try it!!” Of course, you cannot say no. Guess Lady Christie was right, if you wear a mask long enough it would fuse in with your true self.
You act just like any other secretary in the ADA, polite, properly-dressed, hardworking and always ready to pick up any agent’s slack on paperwork(mainly Dazai’s). He notices how you would blend well with the background with that quiet nature, your presence barely noticeable, just like what he used to be in his assassin days. You also have a sweet voice and would look up to him with those adorable feline-like eyes while reading meeting reports to him.
No, no Yukichi, she is your employee, not a stray kitten you encountered in a park. You cannot pat her on the head or squeeze her cheeks, it would be inappropriate. He had to scold himself so very often, whenever you smile to greet him at his desk or wish him a good evening when you leave work. Maybe that is why he hired you, a foreigner with little work experience in Japan.
Since you are only a clerk, Fukuzawa assumed you did not possess a special ability, therefore he did not bother to check your background thoroughly. However, there is something that distinguishes you from the norms like Kirako Haruno or Naomi Tanizaki. Your quick reflexes are unusual for a civilian. His suspicions were confirmed thanks to Ranpo.
When Ranpo accidentally pushed one of his donuts off the table, you snatched a napkin, crouched down and caught the pastry with one hand. All done within half a second, without dropping a single sheet of the files on your other hand. Even Ranpo was impressed and gave you a few words of praise. You responded with a sheepish smile, but that smile does not look so harmless to Fukuzawa anymore. That is when Fukuzawa took a particular interest in you, who are you really? Those moves would take years of training to mould into one’s instincts.
You have hidden pockets in that skirt? He could just be paranoid, but that size is enough to fit a mini-gun or a dagger. In fact, you do carry these things around, old habits die hard. Decades of Assassin life had made you insecure without a weapon to hold. But young women often carry self-defence mechanisms right? Surely you would need them since you are just so cute. Is he just overthinking things?
Using his connections, the ADA president got a copy of your records from the Government Database. But they are nothing out of the ordinary, almost too normal. Maybe you are just blessed with natural talents, not some government spy. Because that could mean big problems, as Fukuzawa hates the government to stick their noses into his Agency.
“(Y/n)-san? She is a nice girl. She is always willing to help out everyone with their troubles. Hah, one time she even went to drag Dazai out from a ditch!”
“When the powers are out, (y/n)-chan brought lots and lots of candles for us. I cannot be more grateful.”
“She loves sweets and would often bake me some! (y/n)-chan calls me her test subject for her confectionery arts, not that I mind as long as I get half of her chocolate cookies!”
Only words of praise and gratitude, Fukuzawa cannot seem to find a single bit of negativity related to you? You are so friendly towards everyone, no one ever saw you in a different mood other than cheerfully happy.
The more Fukuzawa learns about you, the more invested he becomes. Even though it started as an investigation, he had grown fond of you rather quickly. Soon enough he finds himself smiling back to your greetings and goodbyes, even sneaking gazes full of fondness when you were not noticing.
Hm, so the agency president had taken a special interest in you huh? That is better than ideal. Now you can sleep soundly at night without ten traps set up in your apartment. People usually protect what they love right? Now you got the powerful Silver Wolf, an elite swordsman as your bodyguard!
These little actions did not get past the observations of Ranpo Edogawa. You are pleasant to have around, and if you marry the president would mean you would never leave the ADA right? He can have those delicious sweets for the rest of his days! His sensei is happy, and he got an endless supply of delicious food, sounds like a win-win to him.
So when Fukuzawa asked him to use his Ultra Deduction on you, little Ranpo did not suspect a thing and gladly obliged.
“(y/n)-chaan is a skilled assassin, with at least ten years of experience...And served in the Order of the Clock Tower as one of their finest knights, but she is currently on exile.” Ranpo and Fukuzawa exchange a glance, mixed with shock and horror. Both stayed silent for a while, digesting the unbelievable truth Ranpo just dug up.
So, his hunch was correct. But how can you, a charming lady who would help the elderly to cross the street, would give up your seat on the train to pregnant women, would help out anyone in need used to be a cold-blooded assassin? (These are all classic kindness gestures in Asia, in case anyone is confused)
Can Fukuzawa imagine you in black tights(eh idk how this came up), ending people’s lives while lurking in the shadows? No, it is physically impossible. He lived that kind of life, how can you turn out to appear so innocent? Unless you hid your evils exceptionally well. This sends a chill down his spine, the thought of someone who can fool the entire Agency of intelligent agents…
You may not harbour any ill-will towards them yet, but you still pose a major potential risk regardless. You can feed the agents poisonous cakes and even Kunikida would eat them without question. Some precautions need to be taken.
“Sensei, you like (y/n)-chan, right? Why not take her in and watch her every move, make sure she is no threat?” Another win-win situation, if you ask Ranpo. You would have all the time in the world to bake! Wouldn't that be amazing?
His smart apprentice never disappoints.

Dick Grayson Week Day 4
Prompt: Bruce hits Dick and doesn’t get away with it
Summary/Notes:
A Spyral fixit where the family finds out about Nightwing 30. Perspectives are from Tim and Jason, but Steph, Cass, and Damian make an appearance. Quotes taken from Forever Evil 7 and 8, and Nightwing 30. Tw for swearing, angst and domestic/child abuse (because canon is terrible and I can’t leave it the way it is).
Edit: I have an AO3 account now yay! Read here
“I’ll be right back.” Tim chirped as he left to pull some files out of his room. He could feel his friends’ gazes lingering on him as he left. He had to suppress an eye roll. He was fine. Your pseudo-dad/adopted-father-before-you-emancipated-yourself loses his memory and suddenly everyone thinks there’s something wrong with you. Figures. Bruce was happier this way. And maybe, one day, he’d be able to get to know him again. Maybe not as sorta-father and son. But Bruce 2.0 liked volunteering with kids, running charity events. Maybe they could be business partners, or coworkers. It wasn’t like last time. But that didn’t mean Cassie, Bart and Kon weren’t worried. No matter how many times he tried to explain, they wouldn’t listen. It was better this way. Bruce was happier without them. Without him. It stung at first sure, but he was over it. He could handle it. Even if the knot in his stomach told him otherwise.
His fingers brushed the lines on the hallway as he strode through Titan’s Tower. The halls seemed so much smaller than they used to be. Logically, he knew they were the same size. But they weren’t the same walls as when he’d first visited. And those hadn’t even been the first wall either. “We’ve had to rebuild this place like at least a million times.” Dick had told him. The knot tightened. Don’t think about it, he reprimanded himself. He’d been having a nice afternoon. It was relaxing, staying with his friends. But he couldn’t walk through the halls without feeling like a trespasser. This was Dick’s team. This was his home away from home. Who was he kidding? He was no Dick Grayson. Dick’s friends used to look to him for guidance, for advice, for help with problems, personal and business related. Tim used to look to him for guidance, advice and help. Stop thinking about him, he tried again. Forget the Crime Syndicate. Forget the funeral. Don’t stress, repress. He paused for a moment, stared aimlessly out the window, took a few deep breaths, cleared his mind and continued on his way.
Climbing the stairs, he decided it was better to use his mental faculties to go through the case he was working on. Jason had called two days ago asking about some of his old informants in Gotham, Penguin was apparently moving back onto the scene and reorganizing the structure of some of the newer gangs. Cleaning house. Informants were switching names, following their own protocols. Bruce had written some contingency in a classified file somewhere. The issue was where. The damn batcomputer had like a billion files on it. And Barbara knew the system, but was busy coordinating for the JLA and had put them on “Do not Disturb” mode for the foreseeable future. He could write a program to search for it. Stupid Bruce and his stupid files that he’d kept secret from them. “It was on a need to know basis.” He could almost here the defensiveness in Bruce’s voice if he tried hard enough. He nearly face planted as he miscalculated the number of stairs. Maybe they should just go back to their old Young Justice base. Or wait till the building inevitably explodes again and just make it better. That would be fun. Designing a Teen Titans base with slides and escalators. Bart would be thrilled. Bart could probably build it in 5 minutes. Dick wouldn’t approve, his brain felt the need to remind him. Tim nearly huffed. Well Dick is de-.
He abruptly lost his train of thought. There was noise coming from his room. Someone was sniffing, was someone crying in his room? Who was even in his room? Everyone was downstairs. Cissie and Steph were visiting in the lounge, Greta left a few days ago, the new kids were in the gym getting a feel for the equipment. The hell? His heart pounded a bit louder as he silently slunk towards his rooms. If Dick decided to haunt him from beyond the grave this was not cool. The lights flickered. Tim nearly screamed. He could feel cold sweat gathering in his palms, his heart racing, thoughts pounding in his skull. It’s just one of Bart’s pranks, no one can get in without access. He slid next to his door and pulled up the camera feed on his glove’s embedded computer. They weren’t in lockdown, but it couldn’t hurt to check. Few clicks here, few taps there and…Damian? Tim burst through the door, half relieved and fully confused.
“What are you doing here?” Tim half yelled, Damian startling on the bed as he burst into his room. Tim flicked the lights on as the gremlin crossed his arms in response. Tim shut the soundproof door, no need to bother Kon with this.
“I was given access to the tower as well.” He stated monotonously. Tim frowned; something was off. Damian didn’t just show up in his room. Come to think of it, he hadn’t seen the kid in weeks. Not since Bruce went all amnesiac on them. Where was he even staying. Damian shifted uncomfortably under his gaze. There were dark circles under his eyes, he was paler than usual, but flushed, his eyes bright. Had he been crying in here? “Quit gawking at me, Drake.” He spat, jolting Tim back into reality.
He almost opened his mouth to throw some insult back. Almost. He saw the kid’s lip tremble just so slightly, and he bit his tongue. The kid’s hands were shaking. “What’s up?” He replied cautiously. Keeping the demon brat in line wasn’t in his job description. But the kid had had a rough couple months. Dying, coming back to Dick being dead, Bruce losing his memory. He could help with whatever this was and-
“Grayson is alive.”
-send the kid back to Alfred, he knew the kid better than he did. He had his pets at the manor to keep him company, maybe he’d see if Jon would be willing to have a sleepover or something. Spring break was coming up soon, maybe he could take a trip out to Kansas-
“Drake!” Damian was waving a hand in front of his face. Tim blinked a few times. He hadn’t said…had he? That wasn’t right Dick was-
“Richard is alive, I can prove it.” There was desperation in the kid’s voice, water in his eyes. The trash can was filled with tissues, it had been empty when he left. His shirt was on inside out. Tim inhaled sharply. Fuck. Tim had been there. He’d done that. Denied reality. Gone on a wild fairy tale goose chase. Chased insane dreams. Sure, it had worked. But this was different. They had a body. We had a body then, his mind helpfully supplied. There was no real evidence. It had worked hadn’t it? Denying Bruce’s death out of reality? But Dick couldn’t be alive. Bruce had seen him die. Clark saw Bruce die, his brain again helpfully supplied. Tim studied Damian’s face carefully. He looked two steps away from a mental breakdown. Was that how I looked? He wasn’t exactly looking in any mirrors at the time. Dick had try to talk him back down, that was the wrong move. He’d doubled down. But Damian wasn’t him and Tim had no idea what to do. Damian stared at him, studying his face carefully. Tim could feel his palms sweating again, when had he started clenching his fists? His brain was ticking through options, tell Damian he believed him – high chance of heartbreak, low chance of kid running off and doing something stupid on his own. Try and talk him down – still some heartbreak, but can mitigate, medium to high chance of him running off. Call Alfred – should he really do that though? The kid came to him. Alfred’s busy dealing with amnesiac Bruce. Call someone else? Why did the kid come to him in the first place? Damian hated him, he wouldn’t come to him unless he was really sure, or really desperate. Does he think I can replicate what happened with Bruce? Time seemed to move like molasses. Tim swallowed. Now or never.
“I believe you.” He replied. Damian’s eyebrows furrowed, but his shoulders fell ever so slightly, and he rocked back on his heels, uncrossing his arms and leaning into a less defensive stance. Mixed results. He prayed he sounded convincing enough. If he was going this route, he had to go all the way. It didn’t matter that he’d seen the body. It didn’t matter that Bruce saw. He needed to be on Damian’s side with this one. Just like he’d needed somebody on his side back then. Even if it was a crazy side. Even if it was a leave everyone behind and run around on a whim side. Even if it doesn’t work out, at least the kid would have someone to catch him at the end. Why did it have to be the brat though?
“You do not. But you will.” Damian said solemnly, a bit of an edge to his voice. He pulled a laptop out of a bag on the floor and hopped up on the foot of Tim’s bed. Tim quietly settled next to him, careful to not touch him. He was careful. The kid didn’t appear to be looking for a fight, but you never know. Tim glanced at the laptop screen.
“DAMIAN NO WHAT THE-” He screamed. Damian nearly leapt of the bed. His face turned red.
“-tt- Grow up Drake, this is for research purposes only, that is not-” He started mumbling.
“You’re on DICK GRAYSON THIRST POST WEBSITES for RESEARCH!” Tim half screamed, attempting to lower his voice. Damian flushed harder.
“SHUT UP DRAKE!” He countered. Tim took deep breaths. Dear god, he needed to bleach his eyes after this. He did not need to know these threads existed. Fucking reddit. Humanity has gone too far. There were 20k followers. He peeked over again, the latest posts were from this morning. His mouth was dry. These people were lusting over his dead brother. It was sick, it was fucking disgusting it was-
“Wait what’s that picture?” Tim asked.
“-tt- If you would allow me to explain instead of losing your head, I can show you.” Damian grumbled. He clicked on the picture to enlarge it. “I’ve run the calculations, biometrically, the body shape is a 99.97% match.” Tim let out a low whistle. It wasn’t much to go on. You couldn’t see the figure’s face, he was turned away from the camera. Whoever took it was definitely aiming for a certain portion of the man’s body.
“Have you talked to the poster?” Tim inquired. Damian nodded.
“This subreddit is dedicated to…” Damian made a revolted looking face, “capturing casual images of Grayson in unsavory positions.” He nearly squirmed as he finished the sentence. “I was attempting to research the details of Grayson’s perceived passing and came across this website.” That was a different kind of trauma in Tim’s opinion. “The image caught my eye. He has fans in Ireland, that is where it was taken. These fans are apparently experts at picking him out.” Damian scrolled through some earlier posts to prove his point. “It is odd.” He added pointedly. Tim’s mind was racing. It was hardly evidence. It could have been anyone. But he was right. The perverts were good. They even had a few of Dick in disguise doing undercover work, none of his face of course. But Dick couldn’t be in Ireland. Tim went to the funeral. Bruce went to the funeral. Bruce saw Dick die. Bruce wouldn’t lie about something like that. He never told you about the Joker. His mind supplied. No. Bruce wouldn’t. Bruce couldn’t. He wouldn’t put them through that grief. Not after Damian. Not after all the lies. He promised he wouldn’t lie to them like that. The picture couldn’t be real. But Damian kept scrolling. There were more. In multiple countries. It couldn’t be possible. There was no way. People joked his brother’s butt was iconic but this was ridiculous.
“Drake?” Damian sounded so cautious. Tim was confused. The pictures all looked so real. So accurate. Could they be photoshopped? That could explain it.
“Did you get any of the original files?” He asked much too hastily to appear calm. A smile flicked on Damian’s face for a millisecond.
“You believe me.” Damian stated, half disbelievingly. Tim bit his lip. He didn’t want to. He couldn’t. If he did, then he didn’t believe Bruce. Damian cleared his throat. “I have already examined a few of the original photographs. Their phones were laughably easy to hack.” He looked smug for a mentally unhinged eleven-year-old. “They do not appear to be tampered with.” Tim could feel his heart thudding in his chest. Dick couldn’t be alive. It wasn’t possible. He saw the body. Bruce was in the cave for a week going over it. Not allowing anyone in. No… Fuck…
“What did you do?” He muttered under his breath. Damian looked at him inquisitively, a determination burning in his eyes. Tim hadn’t seen any of the proof himself. And he believed Bruce unquestioningly. That was the opposite of what the man had taught him. But there was still something off. He looked searchingly at Damian. “Dick wouldn’t do that to us.” He couldn’t. Dick would never do something like that. He would tell them. He wasn’t like Bruce, he was reliable. Dick didn’t keep secrets like that. He wouldn’t fake his own death and leave them to fend for themselves. Not after Damian died. After everything they’d lost, after everything he’d lost. Dick wouldn’t do that to him. Damian’s eyes flickered toward the ground, and he frowned.
“Maybe he can’t tell us.” Is all he had to offer. It seemed like a sore spot. Tim didn’t push it. It was probably driving the kid insane. Dick, galivanting across the world, not checking in, not coming back to tell them he was okay? The odds were astronomically low. Dick was a constant. He was their brother. He was a Robin. Robins don’t do that to each other. Steph did, his brain helpfully supplied. But that wasn’t Steph’s fault. Tim dug his nails into his palms. He needed to know. He needed proof. He needed to see the footage, go over the evidence. He didn’t doubt Dick, but his mind was itching. He wouldn’t be able to sleep unless he knew for sure. Hell, Damian probably couldn’t either.
“Look, here’s the plan.” Tim said, his mind racing. Damian stared at him intently. Wow the kid really was desperate if he was willing to listen to him. “I’ll tell Kon I’m taking you home, that you need some help on a case, then will slip out. Maybe, maybe someone close to the family is compromised.” He said, a bit unsure. That could explain the lie. If there was one. Please let there be one. Damian nodded, stuffing his laptop back into his backpack. Tim crossed the room and grabbed the door handle.
A barely audible “Thanks.” reached his ears as he flipped off the lights.
Jason groaned as he checked his messages. He really didn’t want to go through the batcomputer files. It would be faster if Tim did it, plus he had a lower chance of accidentally messing something up. Not that the file system wasn’t already a disaster. Touch the wrong button and you’re locked in the cave till Alfred realizes something’s wrong.
Tim had stopped responding to his messages two days ago, and well, he couldn’t wait any longer. And so, he found himself zipping through the tunnel systems that led into the cave. It was better to avoid the manner if possible. Happy Bruce wasn’t high on the list of people he wanted to see. That dude was fucking weird. It made him feel weird. It did feel good to cross amnesia off his yearly family bingo though. Now he just needed someone to trip during an interview and he’d break Cass’s winning streak. At the rate they were checking things off, maybe he should start a second batch and make it biannual. That or change the prompts. They were getting predictable.
He rolled to a stop inside the cave, and nearly rolled his eyes seeing the mess of skid marks on the floor. Seriously, tires are expensive, why his siblings couldn’t park like normal human beings was beyond him.
Someone was clacking away on the upper platform. Oh, thank God Tim was probably here, figuring it out before he could mess everything up. Cass poked her head over the railing, Jason cocked an eyebrow at her as he removed his helmet. She grinned and jumped over it, catching the fireman’s pole and sliding down. Someone was going to break an ankle doing that, could he add that to the bingo cards? Stupid non-work related injury was already on there, maybe upgrading it to stupid broken bone would suffice. Dick broke his nose outside Denny’s at 3am last year during a post mission party. Hands down one of the best nights of Jason’s life. Too bad his family members decided to die at least once a year.
“I’m about to win bingo.” Cass whispered as she brushed past his shoulder. That jolted Jason out of his bittersweet thoughts.
“Bullshit.” He growled back, bingo was his this year. She smugly wrapped an arm around his shoulders.
“Sorry brother.” She said sweetly, leaning her head into his shoulder. She let out a long sigh. And then Jason finally remembered that it most the squares weren’t exactly fun.
“Wait, the fuck’s going on?” Fuck, he really didn’t want to deal with this right now. Nobody could have died Dick checked that off, amnesia was gone, Gotham destroyed was gone, natural disaster was checked, Joker breaks out and does dramatic shit was gone too. But that wasn’t a good sigh, that was a ‘I’m so tired of this family sigh’, which could narrow it down a bit. Cass squeezed his shoulder.
“Family secrets.” She admitted, giving him a melancholy look. Jason groaned. This family was the fucking worst. Bruce wasn’t even really part of it right now, who the hell was keeping secrets? Damian. Had to be Damian. Little monster was just like his dad. Fuck. Dick taught the kid better than that. What kind of mess was he in?
Cass took him by the wrist and started dragging him towards the stairs. He resisted briefly as they got to the base. He needed to know. “Who’s is it?” He asked, planting his feet on the ground.
Cass bit her lip, looking extremely uncomfortable. Jason pulled back his arms and crossed them, keeping his expression as neutral as he could, but she could probably read his mood anyways.
“HA. HAHAHA HA. FUCK YOU BRUCE! TAKE THAT SHIT-COMPUTER!”
Jason nearly jumped out of his skin at Tim’s screeching from upstairs, Cass was running up the stairs, not waiting to see if he was coming. Jason sighed. It was going to be on of those days. He took a deep breath and headed up behind her.
Tim was doing a victory dance in front of the computer. Damian was crawling out from under the computer, a shit eating grin on his face. They both looked (and smelled) a mess. Definitely neither had showered in a few days, probably hadn’t slept either.
“Todd, you are just in time to witness our victory over father.” Damian greeted, formal as ever. The brat didn’t even through an insult in there. Must be in a good mood. Well that at least explained who was keeping secrets. Stupid Bruce, keeping secrets even while an amnesiac. Screw him.
“Shall we?” Tim asked, offering a hand to Damian, which shockingly the kid took. The fuck did he miss?!?
“Uh, what the fuck?” He managed to get out. There was cowl footage pulled up on the screen. Cass was pulling chairs over from the table. He tiredly took the seat she offered him.
“Waaaaiiiiiit I have popcorn!” Steph called, pounding down the stairs.
“Steph no!” Tim moaned. “This isn’t a joke!”
“What’s family drama without popcorn?” Steph sung back. Damian huffed. Cass snickered. Jason had to smirk to himself. Dark humor was the best coping mechanism in this family. “Besides you haven’t told us what this is!” She accused. Well at least Jason wasn’t the only one who didn’t know. Tim shifted guilty at the computer, his eyes darting from Damian and then back to the group. Damian responded by huffing and crossing his arms.
“Drake did not ‘want to get your hopes up’.” He began, mimicking Tim’s voice perfectly, “-tt-His concern is unfounded, my research has been impeccable, Gr-” Tim shoved a hand over Damian’s mouth. Damian looked downright murderous.
“Look we want to watch the footage beforehand it might be-” Tim squawked as Cass lunged off the table, hopped over his shoulders and hit play on the batcomputer. “Cass wait!” He got out as the video began to play. Steph grabbed Tim from behind and dragged him into a seat.
The screen showed footage from a first-person perspective, they were walking through a doorway into a large room.
“I’m tired of secrets.” Muttered Cass as she slipped in a chair next to Steph. Damian staid standing, glaring intensely at the screen, looking strangely anguished.
“Hey, kid you can…” The invitation died in his throat. The camera moved forward into the room, revealing a beaten Dick Grayson in the center, hooked to countless machines, suspended in a metal cocoon, only his face and chest peeking out.
“Oh my God.” Came a familiar voice from the screen. A growl reverberated in the cave.
“Well Batman…” Luthor materialized on the right, “…You’ve found Nightwing.” He said, stalking forward.
Something clattered on the floor. The camera was rushing forward. Voices from the cave mixed with voices on the screen.
“Why would you want to watch this!?” shrieked Steph.
“Dick? Everything’s going to be all right. I’m here.” Bruce’s gruff voice sounded oddly strained.
“Shut up Brown!” Came Damian in a high-pitched voice.
“He never showed us the evidence.” Tim’s voice squeaked. “We have to watch till the end?”
“I’m sorry I shut you out. All of you. I didn’t want you getting hurt…I’m going to get you out of this.” Came Bruce’s shaking voice. Jason could feel a lump growing in his throat. He didn’t want to see this.
“Fast-forward?” Cass suggested, her voice equally shaken. Jason could barely see the others in the cave, his eyes were glued to the screen.
“No…You need to…leave.” Came Dick’s horse whisper of a voice. “You need to go…”
Damian made an inhuman noise, which allowed Jason to tear his eyes off the screen.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” Muttered Tim. “We can’t fast-forward we need to know what happened.” He forced a sense of determination into his voice. “This is why I didn’t-”
THOOM. The sound rumbled through the cave. Jason jumped out of his seat. The camera whipped around revealing the exit sealed off, with Luthor, Selina, and Bizzarro trapped inside.
“-you guys can still leave.” Tim said shakily.
BA-DEEP. Blared through the speakers. BA-DEEP.
“What is that?” Came Selina’s voice, her usual smooth and silky persona dropped. BA-DEEP.
“It’s a countdown. This isn’t just a fancy pair of handcuffs, Catwoman. It’s a bomb.” Came Lex’s gruff voice. The camera turned again showing a timer counting down from 5 minutes. Jason’s stomach painfully twisted at the reminder of another countdown in another sealed building.
“We’re staying.” He managed to get out. He might have heard noises of affirmation.
WHAM. “The door. The walls. Why can’t we break through them?” Came Luthor’s voice.
“This cell was designed to hold Doomsday, Luthor.” Came Bruce’s voice again. The camera showed him messing with the panel. BA-DEEP.
“Is the countdown monitoring his heart?” Selina asked from seemingly far away.
“Yes.” Boomed Bruce’s voice. BA-DEEP.
“Why?” Replied Selina.
“The detonator is hooked into it.” Bruce responded. Jason’s heart sunk. “He died in a death trap. There was no way out.” Bruce had told him before the funeral. BA-DEEP.
“Batman…The bomb…” Dick whispered. BA-DEEP. Jason spared another glance at Damian. There were tears beginning to form in his eyes, but he stared, glued to the screen all the same. “…It only disams…If my heart stops.” Jason could feel his chest tightening painfully. “I die…or we all die.” BA-DEEP.
“Maybe Bruce had a reason for not showing this to us.” Steph said shakily. Jason glanced over. She looked green. Her sleave and eyes were both wet. The sounds of the heart monitor echoed in the cave.
BA-DEEP. “Please…Listen to me…” Dick’s horse voice started again. Tim was muttering frantically to himself. “You still have time to get yourself out of here.” The camera was so close. Jason could see every cut on his brother’s face, could see the sweat on his brow, the blood trickling down from his nose.
BA-DEEP. “I am not leaving you, Dick. I am not abandoning you.” Bruce sounded much more confident that Jason felt. Too bad Bruce didn’t sound confident.
“You aren’t Bruce. And you never have.” Dick replied. Jason’s vision was blurring. All he wanted was some stupid computer files. He didn’t come to the cave to watch this.
BA-DEEP. “The only way we’re getting out of here is together…No…The wires…” Jason dug his fingernails into his palms. “…Every time I disconnect a relay, it fixes itself.” Jason bit his lip.
BA-DEEP. At some point those in the caves had gone silent. “Then there’s only one way to disarm this bomb, Batman.” Came Luthor’s voice. The video jolted violently and Bruce’s cry reverberated through the cave. Chaos erupted on the screen. A cacophony associated with their customary brand of violence echoed through the speakers, obscuring some of the voices.
BA-DEEP. “I’m saving our lives.” Jason made out. The screen was black. Jason glanced around the room. Everyone was tense. Damian was crying. Tim looked horrified. Cass was perfectly still, her expression blank. Steph looked one step away from throwing up in the empty popcorn bowl that lie on the ground at her feet.
BA-DEEP. The camera was moving again. “LUTHOR.” Boomed Bruce’s voice again. Jason caught a glimpse of the man pressing a hand over Dick’s face. “LUTHOR, YOU HURT HIM AND I WILL KILL YOU.” Cass let out the faintest gasp. Bruce wasn’t lying. How the hell was Luthor still alive? The heart monitor was stuttering. BA-DEEEEEP
“Nonononononononononono.” Came Tim’s voice. “It wasn’t supposed to-”
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
“DICK.” Screamed Bruce. The camera rushed forward.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
“NO!” Yelled Bruce and Tim at the same time. Damian had sunk to the floor.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
A fist kept pounding Luthor in the face relentlessly. “Batman, wait-” Luthor pleaded. This was not how Jason had wanted Bruce to break his code.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
“YOU MURDERER!” Screeched Bruce, righteous fury echoing in his voice. The heart monitor cut off. A hand reached down to cut off Luthor’s windpipe.
“I have this…” Came Luthor’s strangled voice. He looked terrified. “Under control…Grayson…” The hand squeezed harder. “-kk-!” The man chocked. Bruce lessened up slightly. “It’s not too late, you idiot.” Spat Luthor. Bruce was apparently passed the point of listening.
“YOU MURDERED NIGHTWING.” He growled, tightening his grip once more. Luthor was going bug eyed. The man was going to actually die if Bruce pushed it much harded.
“Batman-” Came Selina’s voice.
“Luthor killed Dick, Selina.” Bruce said, his voice strangled.
“You said this lightning rod was from the future! Maybe we can use it to save him or something? I don’t know-!” She cried desperately.
A flash of light and crackle of electricity resounded through the cave. The screen went black for a moment.
Jason could hear metal clinking on the floor.
“Why are we still watching this?” Jason asked hoarsely. Tim looked at him palely.
“I need to know what happened next.” He whispered.
“If I hadn’t stopped Grayson’s heart, this ‘Murder Machine’ would have detonated and we all would have died. I had to make a choice, Batman. I made him flatline…after I forced him to swallow a cardioplegia pill.” The camera slowly tilted back up to focus on Luthor.
“A what?” Asked Steph and Selina at the same time.
“A drug that paralyzes the cardiac muscles surrounding the heart.” Replied Tim and Bruce in sync.
“Then…” Trailed off Damian. The boy looked up hopefully at the screen.
“And if this boy’s heart doesn’t get a shot of adrenaline right this very second he’s going to stay dead.” Luthor finished.
*kaff*
That small cough was the best sound Jason had heard in his entire life.
“YES!” Shouted Tim.
Damian swallowed. “As I expected.” He said shakily. No one called him out on it.
“Dick?” Came Bruce’s voice from the screen.
“Batman?” Dick’s wobbly voice whispered.
Cass tackled Steph into a bear hug, and Steph laughed widely as they clattered to the floor. Jason just sighed deeply and let his head drop into his hands in relief.
“Drake-” gasped Damian, “-get off.”
“You were right! Damian was right! Dick’s alive. HAHA Dick’s ALIVE!” Jason glanced up to see Tim squeezing the crap out of Damian who was going slightly blue in the face. There were words coming from the speakers still but they fell to the wayside in the celebration. Jason walked over and turned the volume down.
“I’m going to kill them.” Jason muttered under his breath. But he’d save that for later, for now, he just paced back to his chair and sunk into it. The cave was quiet for a few minutes, Dick and Bruce continued on whatever the fuck adventure they were on was. The rest of the video was a blur. By the end, Jason’s racing heart had settled, and the kids had stopped clinging to each other.
“But wait.” Said Steph as the video ended. “If Dick’s alive, where is he? How did you even know to look?”
Jason turned to see Tim babbling. “Well I have a few theories, we recovered more footage as well, you know? Like Damian found pictures of him all across the world so like, we don’t know for certain where he is, but like I don’t know for sure what happened, but maybe someone was compromised so like, he had to stay hidden or like…” Tim continued babbling as the next video began to play. It was once again footage from the cowl. “Bruce shut off all the camera’s in the cave for the next week, I thought he was sulking but like we were able to find some cowl footage that he deleted, and like hopefully from that we can figure out what happened and how to track him down-”
“Turn up the volume.” Demanded Cass from her seat. She was looking at the screen with an odd expression. Damian moved without hesitation. Jason’s eyes followed up to the screen. Dick was glaring into the camera his fists raised and wrapped.
“So, one more time Dick. But now there’s only one rule…You have to win.” Came Bruce’s gruff voice. The pair was in the cave. Dick lunged towards the camera. “You let the crime syndicate capture you. Let them torture you. You let them give your secrets to the world.” Bruce accused.
“Bruce man, what the fuck!” Steph yelled, masking Dick’s response.
Bruce continued “You let them turn you into a bomb. You let them kill you. Before Luthor rescued you, you let everyone WATCH YOU DIE.” He boomed.
“YOU GOTTA BE FUCKING KIDDING ME!” Jason bellowed, knocking over his chair as he stood. He walked away from the screen. Only fucking Bruce. Only fucking Bruce would blame someone for their death. Jason knew that all too well. He walked away from the screen, giving himself distance to clear his head.”
“I trained you to LIVE, and I watched you DIE!” CRACK. Jason flipped around to see Bruce elbow Dick in the face, drawing blood. Bruce’s words cut like a knife. It wasn’t Jason’s fault he died. It wasn’t Dick’s fault either. Neither Steph’s or Damian’s. Damian had unconsciously taken cover behind Tim, who was standing between Damian and the screen with an arm hovering over the kid’s shoulder.
“WHAT THE FUCK BRUCE!” Screamed Steph at the screen, she was also on her feet at this point. Only Cass’s hand prevented her from trying to fight the digital apparition. “WE DON’T JUST GO AROUND DYING WILLY NILLY, IT’S NOT MY-, IT’S NOT HIS FAULT!” Her voice shrilly echoed around the cave, drowning out the audio temporarily.
Dick was on his knees, wiping his bloody nose, looking up confused. WHACK. A powerful kick sent him flying off the platform, crashing into a costume display case. “I have a mission for you, Dick. I need you to do something that will hurt your friends. Your family.” Bruce commanded. He could hear Damian inhale sharply. Tim stopped hovering and pulled Damian tightly into his chest, rushing forward to pause the video, with the boy in tow. His hand was over the button before Cass sprung forward and grabbed his wrist. Jason had never seen Cass look this angry without the mask.
“I deserve to know.” She said with conviction, anger deep in her voice. “I deserve to know what kind of father he is.” She spat. Jason wasn’t going to touch that with a ten foot pole.
“But he shouldn’t, I mean I don’t know if, I mean I don’t know what, I mean-” Tim sputtered glancing from the screen to Damian and back again.
“I want to know the truth.” Came Damian’s tiny reply. He looked so young, he pushed away from Tim’s chest, but leaned into his side.
Cass pulled Tim’s hand back. “I fought him once.” She admitted. “I need to know.” She repeated.
Tim looked at her pleadingly. Bruce and Dick raged at each other on screen. Blood flowed from the cuts on Dick’s back. “I…I…” Tim stammered.
“We all deserve to know.” Steph piped up, leaning against the side of the computer.
“Fight like you’re alive!” Bruce yelled on the screen. CRACK. An oversized die broke on impact with the back of Dick’s head. Dick retaliated, throwing a question mark back.
The words were blurring in Jason’s head, his rage clouding his thoughts, and overtaking his senses. The rest of the world was disappearing, leaving only the screen behind. His vision tunneled. He crossed his arms as tightly as he could, willing himself to stay in place. Stay calm. His hearing cut out. But he could still read his name on his brother’s lips just before Bruce delivered an uppercut powerful enough to knock Dick off the dinosaur.
The next thing Jason knew Cass was sitting on him. People were yelling at him.
“-on’t break the screen-”
“-up I need to see-”
“-op fighting-”
Cass smiled apologetically before tapping a pressure point. Jason allowed himself to fade into the darkness.
He came to in a medical bay of the cave, with an intense desire to get out. This place was cursed. He needed out, he needed to think, he needed to process, but he needed to get out. He pushed himself up and swung his legs off the bed.
“Wait.” Came a voice from behind him. He spun off the bed to see Tim, awkwardly standing on the other side of the cot. Jason edged towards the door. “We know where he is.” Tim offered. Jason glanced at Tim, and back to the door.
“Can we talk somewhere else?” He asked quietly. He didn’t want to be in the cave for this. Tim awkwardly bobbed side to side.
“Uh about that. We’re moving out.” He said quickly. Jason opened the door.
“OMGIT’SREDHOODHIMR.REDHOODSIRPLEASEDON’TKILLTIM-”
Jason slammed the door in the kid’s face. He stared at Tim, who was banging his head into the wall with a hand covering his eyes.
“Do I even want to know?” Jason asked. Tim groaned.
“I called my team to help us move out, we’re going to use the bunker for Gotham operations from now on.” Tim explained. A loud crash came from outside. The door whipped open.
“Heythegiantpennyisn’t-” The kid started. Jason growled at him. “-nevermindbyebye.” The speedster zipped away and slammed the door.
“You decided this without me?” Jason asked, raising an eyebrow at Tim. Tim looked back at him sheepishly.
“You’re already out voted. Besides you really want to stay here?” He replied evenly. Jason shrugged, that was fair. He’d already tried to leave. “I know you said you don’t want to talk here, but I don’t know when I’ll get you alone again.” Jason sighed. That’s valid, he was planning on avoiding the family for a bit. “Please don’t pull a disappearing act.” Jason looked up at him.
“Why not?” He challenged.
“We don’t need Bruce to be a family.” Tim replied. It sounded rehearsed. That was also fair. “And we need each other too. We found some communications from Dick, Bruce left him stranded when he got amnesia, he’s coming back in a few days.” Jason couldn’t look Tim in the eye anymore.
“I don’t know what to do.” He said honestly, looking at Tim’s shoes. What do you say after something like this? After watching something like that. After knowing the truth.
“Neither do we, but we’ll figure it out together.” Tim offered. He looked sad, tired, his face fell before he spoke again. “He…he misses us.” He spoke softly. “On the recordings. I, I don’t think Bruce even told him about Damian.” Jason swore softly under his breath. Bruce was one fucking piece of work.
“Is there anything else I should know?” Jason said after a moment, catching Tim’s eye once more.
Tim shook his head. “The rest of the tape was mostly the same.” He said quietly. “He won.” He added as an afterthought. Jason snorted. Tim gave a warry smile. None of them ever won. Not in the ways they wanted to. Only when the prizes were more pain, more guilt, more heartbreak.
Jason leaned back against the wall. How was this the way things ended up? Was Bruce always this cruel? The man was unrecognizable to Jason. It was inexcusable. After Willis? After Cain? After Brown? Hell, even Tim’s father was emotionally abusive before he died. Why couldn’t any of them have a normal father? A stable parental relationship. It wasn’t fair. And it hurt more because he didn’t even know where it started. Bruce had been a good father to him. Had that been a lie? He’d never looked to closely at why Dick had left home, could it be that…that…? Had Jason missed something like this? Would he ever even know what he’d missed? They didn’t have as many cameras back then.
Tim had crossed the room and put a hand on his shoulder. “He’ll be okay.” He said confidently. “As long as we have each other, we’ll all be okay.” Tim squeezed his shoulder gently before disappearing through the door into the chaos that used to be his childhood fantasy. When had it all gone so wrong, he had to ask himself. He hated that he knew the answer. His death was this fucking family’s original sin. But you know what, that wasn’t his fault. Even if it felt like it. Even if Bruce still blamed him. Dick didn’t look at him like a ghost, he didn’t look at him like a kid in over his head, like a regret, like a mistake. It was time for Bruce to grow the hell up and move on. Bad experiences don’t justify beating your kids. Maybe from here, they could move on. Maybe from here on, they could heal. Maybe they could start over. Maybe they could make their own new family. Bruce had abused them, lied to them, manipulated them enough. It was time to rise from the ashes like a phoenix and fly again. He wouldn’t know unless he tried. He didn’t have to give up on Gotham. But maybe it was time to give up on Bruce.
Jason swung open the door, descending into a future unknown, diverging from the circle of heartache and abuse. He had broken the cycle once before, on his own, with a new family made of friends, one of his choosing. And now he chose to break it once more, and this time he resolved not to leave his siblings behind.

do you have any thoughts on mentor archetypes in general? i looked it up and most of the analysis was about how they invariably die...
I have a lot of thoughts on mentor archetypes, particularly considering it is arguably my job to be a mentor (I am an early childhood educator)
I really love mentoring as a character trait, but I can really hate some of the ways that it applies. There are two problems I think that tend to consume mentor characters (and I’ll add a bonus thought to make three), though they aren’t exclusive nor exhaustive:
mentorhood as a get out of jail free card
mentorhood as the only important thing old people can do
mentorhood as an isolated special incident
1. Mentorhood as a get out of jail free card
I get it. The introduction of Yoda as a character was influential to many people’s childhoods mine included. We love our hard knocks montage. But the fact of the matter is, both educationally and morally speaking, there’s like. a lot of reasons you should not be a dick to someone you’re teaching, and why if a character is being a dick to a student, in particular a student who is younger and needier than them, this should be a character flaw.
(A GREAT example of this wielded effectively as a character flaw: look at Shifu in Kung Fu Panda! Half of the first movie is examining that Shifu’s tough love schtick not only created Tai Lung as a villain by his own admission, but hurt Tigress personally, and Po who was already pretty willing to give up on himself, gave up more until Shifu had a realization and got his ass in gear; and it is made clear in the later movies that it’s because he was grappling with a lot of emotional issues)
Basically it shouldn’t be a joke that the mentor is strict, or harsh, or cruel. Especially don’t make jokes about corporal punishment, which we have better and better science pointing to that it is abusive and fails to teach.
And part of this is tricky, because a lot of the mentor tropes we’re fed are abusive or flawed mentors, and if you exclusively load the cannon with that sort of material, that’s what’s gong to come out of you unprompted. It’s important to think carefully about what’s actually being taught and being learned. And there should be, bluntly spoken, a reason why these people like their mentors, and if they don’t, that will hurt their progress. There’s no niche so precious that you just HAVE to put up with them. If a mentor is the legendary best in the land, but a terrible person to put up with, it’s not inconceivable that the protagonist is gonna pack their stuff and go talk to the second best in the land who isn’t such a pill. And if the hero stays, then, it’s become an enduring character trait that they will tolerate maltreatment in the interest of a higher goal and that’s not necessarily a good thing.
2. Mentorhood as the only important thing old people can do
This is simply an elaboration on my previous post which I presume inspired anon’s question, but your setting doesn’t simply have a handful of old masters who were young and skilled some long time ago but are now old and beyond doing anything important- or, if it does, there’s a story there. For example, in one of my personal projects, Bevy, there are very few veterans in a particular organization because the organization is fairly recent and because it had an extremely high mortality rate at first- so the few elders that are there, all know each other, and tend highly skilled and highly respected. They’re the survivors of a bleak time.
And even then, that’s going to be a mixed bag. The elderly grandmother-type who is one of the major characters contrasts against a fashionably middle-aged former knight who keeps the main bastion of the organization safe and running smoothly.
Basically, it’s important to consider that old people are simply just people who’ve been people for a long time. They are still doing everything that younger people get up to. Not every old person is weak or infirm. Not every old person who does have disabilities gained them because of age. Not every old person is entrenched in all their skills and passions because they’ve been doing them for years- people pick up new things all the time, and that’s a by-product of being alive, not of being young.
Old people are allowed to still give a shit about their own life and progress- rather than simply lying back and abdicating to the young on the idea they already have one foot in a grave. This is especially harsh in series where the mean age is low- it might seem funny to joke about how the one 25-year-old in a cast of 10-year-olds is old, but the frank and brutal reality is that if a thirty year old is acting like they’re retirement age something’s brutally wrong here.
Basically, treat elders in your stories like they’re full people. Any society or organization that’s been around will have old people! This is a thing about worldbuilding that I find highly incredulous sometimes- almost no populations will exclusively be 18-30 year olds. Anywhere people have been for a while, there’ll be old people, and anywhere people intend to stay will have at least a few kids.
And “old” is not a personality trait- the old people won’t all be limited to wise elders or lonely twilight wanderers or indulgent grandparents and even if they have those qualities they sure as hell won’t be a vacuum. Maybe the lively, playful shopkeep that the detective gets some important intel from is pushing seventy.
3. Mentorhood as an isolated special incident
Teaching should really not be a matter of training montages. The fact of the matter is, and this ties strongly into the above- in any context, at any time, people will have an uneven level of experience. We are a highly social species. We are wired to take advantage of the fact that we’re usually in groups, and even when not in groups, we can observe or understand what came before us and synthesize personal experience from secondhand experience.
To me, I feel like if there’s a big weakness with the archetypal Mentor, it’s that there’s only one, and all they do is teach. Some people do make teaching a career, and that’s important! But guess what, when I took my job, I’d never learned how to change a diaper before. I was taught, on the job, by my coworkers. I didn’t check into a monastery to practice rigorously on baby dolls before I ever approached an infant.
This is something that comes more easily once you’ve done the work- if you have a cast of characters with diverse ages, backgrounds, and levels of experience, a lot of teaching will just happen organically. Person X will go to do something, realize person Y doesn’t know how, and so person X will show person Y. X doesn’t need to be older, or A Mentor Archetype, or anything in particular.
People learn from each other, constantly, and for a lot of reasons. And learning is often more meaningful when we integrate it into our daily life.

Prologue: Get It Together!
She was gonna do it. Yes, of course, she was. She had finished college, gotten a doctorate, taken down an armed serial killer, been held hostage and now she worked for the Behavioral Analysis Unit, one of the most exclusive and hard to join teams in the FBI, so of course she could do this! Yet here she was, breathing heavily as she tried to press the button, it was now or never.
Maybe never?
No! She couldn't be afraid anymore, she had to do it. She was twenty-eight years old, she couldn't just... But what if her age was the reason this was pathetic? No! She had to do it, she had to do it. There was no turning back, if her family found out about this she would be humiliated (yet again). She couldn’t just say that at her age she had fallen so low. She had to cover it up, there was no other way. But what if they found out anyway? No, she couldn’t allow such a thing.
Breathe.
"Are you okay?" The voice of her coworker made her jump and almost drop her phone. She locked the screen and turned to look at him. He seemed confused at her reaction, but she simply fixed her hair as if it was any other Monday and what she was doing was perfectly normal.
"I'm fine."
"You don't seem fine." He pointed out. That was Spencer Reid, always kind, always honest. His brown hair was a curly mess and his brown eyes stared at her intently as he fixed his navy tie, he was wearing a white dress shirt and grey dress pants, definitely not the attire she imagined ever seeing from the sweater-loving resident genius at the BAU, however, she resisted the urge to comment, instead focusing on the issue at hand.
"Thank you, what all girl wants to hear." She debated whether it was worth telling him or not. While she and the other Doctor on the team weren’t necessarily good friends, being held hostage together and taking a beating to prevent him from being killed creates a certain bond between people, so she decided to attempt and share her situation. “I was trying to... Ugh, this is so embarrassing." She placed her head in her hands, lamenting every second of her miserable life.
"I don't know, maybe if you tell me it'll be less embarrassing?" He asked.
He was trying to be helpful; she knew he was, and she appreciated that more than anything, but it was hard to share how low she had fallen despite her age and position. She knew if someone would listen and not make fun of her it would be the man sitting at the desk across from hers, but she just couldn’t phantom saying it out loud. Then again, he was a genius, and he was not known for his successful love life, so maybe, just maybe he would understand the situation better?
"I accidentally told my annoying cousin that I was dating someone and now I have to bring my boyfriend to her stupid wedding."
"So? How is that embarrassing?"
"I don't have a boyfriend!"
"Why did you say you did? How do you accidentally tell someone you have a boyfriend when you don't?" She knew he wasn't making fun of her, that he was genuinely perplexed, but that knowledge didn't help subside her irritation.
"I only said it because she kept ranting about how I was gonna die alone and she was better than me..." She looked at him, his brow raised. "Okay, maybe she didn't say it exactly like that, but the intention was clear!" She cleared hair out of her face and continued, "Anyway, because I clearly do not have a significant other, I thought that if I hired someone to be my boyfriend during the wedding, it might be less painful?"
"You decided that the best way to solve your problem, of lying to your annoying cousin about your love life was hiring a fake boyfriend?" She looked at him, and a small smile played on his lips. "How does that make sense?"
"It doesn't! But I'm out of options here and I don't know what to do!" Her leg started bouncing as she bit her lip. "The wedding is this weekend, and I will die before I admit I lied to bitchy Anna!"
"That's a little extreme, don't you think?"
"Spencer Reid, you have no idea how far I'll go to shut bitchy Anna up!"
"Who's bitchy Anna?" Another voice said as Emily Prentiss, a tall woman with clear skin and dark short hair made her way to them. She was wearing a white dress shirt with a matching black blazer and dress pants, her small heels making a click-clack noise as she walked. If only she could have the confidence and stamina of Emily Prentiss, she would not be in this mess. Though she couldn’t daydream of being the woman in front of them too much after hearing Spencer’s words.
"Her cousin to whom she lied about dating someone. Consequently forcing her to now look for a fake boyfriend for hire." Spencer spoke as if nothing was weird about the whole situation.
"Why don't you just take Reid? It's not like he has plans, right?" She suggested as an amused smile played on her lips.
She didn't even have time to be mad at the man for spilling out her most embarrassing secret like it was nothing, because Emily's words made her perk up. She turned to him and he quickly shook his head.
"No, there is no way. I hate weddings, and parties in general."
"You owe me!" She argued.
"What? I don't owe you anything!" He defended himself.
"Of course you do, you told Emily something I confided in you!"
"You didn't tell me I wasn't allowed to say anything!"
"Spencer, please, I will do anything you want in order to make bitchy Anna eat her words." She placed her most convincing puppy face and looked at him. This face never failed, on anybody. She had mastered the art at age five and from then on the only thing it couldn’t get her was a normal family. Actually, scratch that, it never really worked after she became ten and Anna had also mastered it, but she was hoping this would be an exception.
"No."
Well, she had already embarrassed herself enough, so what was more begging in the great scheme of things?
"Come on, it's not like I'm asking you to marry me! I'm just asking you to pretend to be in love with me for one day."
"Be careful, that's how a lot of love stories begin," Prentiss said teasingly as she winked at the pair.
"Come on, I will give you money, I will drive you to work for a month. Whatever you want, it's yours." She said, "and Prentiss, this is the real world, not some cheesy love story. Spencer and I are much too mature for those silly things."
"No, I'm mature enough to know better. You just offered anything I want on a silver platter so I can pretend to be your boyfriend at your cousin's wedding. Let that sink in for a minute." He said as his smile grew wider, an idea clearly appearing in his mind. "Let me see, how about, a whole year of rides to work and coffee, for 24 hours of being the fake love of my life."
"Deal." She stretched her hand to shake on it and he looked at her, slightly offended. "Sorry, I forgot. I will make sure to wash my hands more times than necessary and wear gloves all week because you do have to hold my hand during the wedding, couples do that."
"Real couples do that, and it's not very hygienic."
"Well, for Saturday we will be a fake real couple, so let that sink in for a minute." She said as she triumphantly left the scene. She was making her way to the elevator, until she remembered she couldn’t really leave as she had arrived only thirty minutes ago, and her shift was not over until five. She fixed her hair and walked back to her desk as if she hadn’t just embarrassed herself in front of two of her coworkers and continued her paperwork. She heard a laugh from Emily’s desk and didn’t even bother to look up. She had figured out her plan and now she just hoped it would not explode in her face, so a few laughs from her coworker were worth the trouble.
Truth be told, there was a much bigger reason she needed to have someone at the wedding, but Spencer and Emily didn't need to know that. They didn’t need to know why she was willing to feed Spencer Reid’s addiction to coffee and his hate for driving for a whole year rather than tell her cousin she was still single.
Before she knew it, the weekend had arrived and she was in her car, a two-door gray Scion she had very proudly named Matthew when she bought him last June, and she made her way to Spencer's complex. She waited for him in her car after letting him know she was outside. She took the time to look at her now straight hair and her barely visible make-up. She knew blue was Anna’s favorite color, as it was also hers, so she made sure to wear a turquoise dress for her wedding, this was going to be a productive night, for sure.
"Hello, darling." He said as he buckled his seat belt. He was wearing a black suit with a tie that matched her dress, provided by her. His hair was lazily pushed back, giving his fluffy curls volume. She wondered what it would be like to touch it? Spencer would never allow it; he loved his hair way too much.
"We are gonna have the time of our lives, babe." She winked at him and began driving to the venue.
Of course, Anna would use the same venue she had been wishing for her wedding because it wouldn't be Anna if she couldn't have absolutely everything she ever wanted and more. The woman didn't know how long ago this passive-aggressive feud between the two had begun but she'd be damned if she let her cousin beat her at it. She pulled Spencer by the arm gently as she made her way to their table, which was front and center, granting her cousin the ability to see who she had brought along.
"If it isn't my favorite cousin!" She exclaimed. The girl fought the urge to roll her eyes. "And who might this be?"
"Anna, this is my boyfriend, Dr. Spencer Reid. Babe, this is my cousin, Anna."
"Anna, newly Hemingway." She emphasized her last name. As she reached to stretch his hand, but he simply waved. "Pleasure." She said as she retracted her hand and looked him up and down. It was only natural for her to do such a thing. "So cousin, have you heard that the family retreat has a date?" She exclaimed with excitement. "It's in about two weeks. You two obviously coming, right?"
"We actually have a retreat, with our team from the Behavioral Analysis Unit." She said, already looking for a way out, Spencer nodded in agreement.
“What a shame,” Her cousin said with faked empathy. “I’m sure it has nothing to do with what happened two years ago, does it?”
She was out of words, of course she would bring it up. Because of that incident she had convinced her mother to not force her to go last year and it was definitely the reason she was not going this year either, but the fact that Anna knew that got to her. She was ready to go home and cry of embarrassment once again. She had done it. Anna had won with one single question.
“Actually, I didn’t want to say anything hon, because it was a surprise,” Spencer spoke for the first time. “Aaron Hotchner, our boss, said that if I could memorize the whole itinerary, which I obviously can thanks to my eidetic memory and IQ of 187, that I could simply share the notes with you and we can take the weekend off since we are his favorites anyway. I was planning on a much more romantic evening than some family retreat but if your cousin is so determined to have us go, we shall be there.” He smiled at the bride, his amusement not so subtle at her reaction.
“You found a keeper,” Anna said, moving some blonde strands of hair from her face. “Anyway, I have to say hello to some guests, but I will see you two lovebirds later.” Her white dress got caught under her heel making her cousin almost fall, but this last one continued as if nothing happened.
"Thank you." She said as she squeezed his hand gently, realizing they were still linked. A whole thirty minutes, that had to be a record for him.
"Don’t thank me, now I understand why you call her bitchy Anna.” They both chuckled at the comment.
“I will call the day of the retreat and say you came down with the flu or something.” She assured him.
“No, I am definitely coming.”
"What? Why would you want to do that?"
"Because," He began, "in the time I've known you I've never seen you let anyone walk over you, or make you feel less. Remember when we met?" She chuckled at the thought. "I didn't appreciate the public embarrassment, but I gained a lot of respect for you. It was hard watching you let her talk to you like that and make you feel less. You are not less." He assured her as he looked at her, sympathy in his eyes. "You are an amazing agent and friend. I bet you're a great daughter and a reliable family member. You are much stronger than you give yourself credit for. If it wasn't for you, we would have never survived that day, I will never forget that. So, I will go with you, and I will be the best boyfriend your family has ever seen, and bitchy Anna can suck it."
She laughed at his comment and he joined. Boy, was she glad Spencer was here with her. Even if they had never been the closest of friends, she valued his opinion, and she was glad it was such a positive one. She wished this was the beginning of an actual friendship between the two.
"Honey!" Her mother's voice interrupted her thoughts, as she approached them
"Oh no." She mumbled, confusing Spencer. "Babe, get ready. You're about to meet my mom." She apologized with her eyes and turned to the bubbly woman that approached them. "Hello, mother." She said as the dark-haired woman with tan skin and stiletto heels that should be illegal reached her, giving her a tight hug. Her red dress matched the infernal shoes and a necklace of pearls adorned her neck.
"Who might this handsome fella be?"
"Mom, this is Spencer Reid, my boyfriend. Spencer, this is my mother." Before he could say anything she was already squishing his cheeks followed by the woman planting a kiss on each side of his face. "You are handsome, I bet my grandchildren will be gorgeous!"
"Mom!" She exclaimed embarrassed.
"What? Don't tell me you're not planning on marrying this hunk? He's a keeper, I can tell."
"You also said that about Tyler." She regretted the comment instantly, the reason being that she didn't need anybody else to know of that embarrassing story.
"Yeah well, aren't you glad you aren't with him anymore?" She said as if public humiliation was something to appreciate. "So how long have you two been seeing each other?"
"Two years."
"A year." She responded as she heard Spencer answer at the same time. "He means that he's liked me for two years, but we only went on our first date a year ago, a year after my breakup with Tyler."
"Yeah, that's right."
"Oh, well. I always thought you would be Mrs. Tyler Hemingway, but Mrs. Spencer Reid sounds so much better!"
"It's doctor." They both corrected.
"Even better!" After that, she walked off without saying another word.
"That's your fake mother-in-law dude... She's something else." She sighed with relief at her mother's easily distracted personality.
"Did she say, Hemingway? As in-"
"Yes, as in my cousin's new husband." She cut him off. "The same one that two years ago told me in front of most of my family that he was in love with my cousin and left me heartbroken and humiliated. That same Tyler Hemingway."
"I'm sorry."
"What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right?" She heard his voice call her and she immediately tensed, Spencer noticed this and moved towards her.
"I am also sorry for what I am about to do, but it will make sense soon." He said as he let go of her hand and grabbed her cheeks, pulling her for a kiss as her ex-boyfriend now turned cousin-in-law watched, perplexed.
When someone describes a fake kiss, it is usually romantic. First comes the surprise, and then immediate compliance, but she was so confused Spencer had to basically squish her cheeks to make her close her eyes and for her to realize what he was doing. She followed suit and kissed him back, still unable to form a coherent thought. It was not like Spencer Reid was a bad kisser, if she had to rate it, it would have been the best kisser she had ever encountered, but the situation that had created such a kiss did not provide for her enjoyment. Not that she wanted to enjoy it, this was her coworker turned accomplice and hopefully actual friend, not someone she was necessarily attracted to, even though she could admit that he was a handsome man. That was not something weird, even Jennifer Jareau, JJ, their friend, and coworker had said it once or twice. You can admit someone is handsome or beautiful without being attracted, everybody knew that.
The cough coming from Tyler Hemingway made Spencer let go of her, as soon as he did he winked at her and moved a strand of hair behind her ear, subtly stabilizing her and covering her shocked face until it dissipated.
“I thought you weren’t one for PDA,” The groom asked. His black tuxedo and white dress shirt made him look handsome, his black hair was pulled back and his blue eyes observed them intently.
“PDA?”
“Public Demonstration of Affection.” She clarified. “Tyler, have you seen this man next to me? How could I not want to kiss him every minute of the day.”
“And this woman has me craving for her touch.”
“Lovely.” The man responded with anything but love for them. “I just wanted to say hi and apologize, I hope you did not mind the venue Anna chose.”
“Me? Why would I mind?” She laughed. “It’s not that big of a deal.”
She felt Spencer’s arms wrap around her waist from behind, even though she hadn't noticed he moved. His head rested on her shoulder, leaving small kisses on her cheeks. Who was this man and what did he do with Spencer Reid?
“I hope you do not take this the wrong way, but when she and I get married it would have to be a much larger venue, with a different layout. I mean, this venue is cute, but this beautiful woman could outshine it just in pajamas.” He smiled at the man and turned his attention to her. “I keep telling you love: stop thinking small, you are a queen among peasants and deserve nothing but the best. Anyone who can’t see the level of woman you are is simply an idiot.”
This was the moment she was ready to marry Spencer Reid and never let him go, just for the satisfaction of seeing Tyler’s face at his comment. She would forever be grateful to Emily Prentiss for suggesting she ask him.

Detour
Rating: Gen, General Audiences
Trigger Warning for minor emotional manipulation
Morgana has one last stop before the Eternal Night begins, to eliminate a possible wizard threat from her past.
It doesn't go quite as planned.
Ao3
or read under the cut
Morgana studied the humans wandering below her. What were they wearing? Did she really have to… fine. Fine, she would blend in. She dismissed her helmet, and glamoured her armor into an off-the-shoulder top and a pair of leggings with boots. She shook her head. It was nice to feel the air on her face and let her bangs and braid flow free, at least.
Eternal night wouldn’t be much longer—it was almost time. She was wasting time, but she told herself that one less wizard in the fight would make things easier. One less wizard to deal with. This was most absolutely a necessary part of The Plan. Right. Completely strategic, and not at all self-motivated.
Morgana touched down outside of the city. She was thankful that the young shadow magician had run about the city while she watched so much, because she found her way easily to a small café and sat down in a chair outside to wait.
It was strategic, she told herself again, one less wizard to worry about. Her feelings had nothing to do with it.
“H—” A familiar accent cut short into a squelched yelp. Morgana turned to look at her waiter.
“Hello, Hisirdoux.”
When she’d possessed Claire, she’d snapped at him. Tried to get him away, to keep him away from Claire and any danger that came with the girl. Tried to scare him off so he wouldn’t recognize her in the girl’s body. He’d done a good job of acting confused at the time, but she’d seen that ever-so-slight change in posture, the slight tensing of his shoulders. Why he hadn’t confronted her, Morgana didn’t know. But he’d known she was possessing the young shadow magician.
Morgana nodded to the chair across from her. “Sit down. I want to talk.”
There it was again, that tensing, that slight edge away. Morgana pushed away a twinge in her heart. She shouldn’t care that he was scared of her. In fact, she should be glad. It would make her job easier. “I… really ought to be getting back to it, so if you want to order anything—”
“I said sit down,” Morgana said sharply. The chair floated up and hit the back of Douxie’s knees, making him sit down, and then scooted in close to the table. Douxie’s eyes darted everywhere, as if looking for someone to save him, but if anyone noticed the teen’s discomfort, no one intervened.
Douxie let out a deep breath, his shoulders still tensed. “Merlin won’t surrender, even if you have me hostage,” he said calmly, “He won’t let you win.” There was a slight tremor in his voice, as if he was thinking about what would happen to him if Merlin didn’t surrender, and Morgana felt that momentary twinge of hurt again.
She leaned back in her chair. Two could play at the ‘totally unconcerned’ game. “I’m not here to kidnap you. It would just be a waste of time—I know Merlin won’t trade for one life if the world is at stake. Even if that life is his apprentice’s.”
A tiny flinch. God, she hated this game. The emotional manipulation, the tiny stings of hurt that destabilized someone enough to make them do what you wanted without making them hate you—she’d never wanted to be anything like her old master. Running the numbers, calculating risk and reward, using people as pawns—that had never felt like her. But just this once, she would stoop to his level. Just this once, something was at stake that she’d lower her principles to get the job done.
She just wished Douxie hadn’t been caught in the middle.
“So, what, you want information? Because I can’t even tell you anything about Merlin’s plans, even if you torture me because—”
“Please, I don’t need you to tell me what Merlin’s up to. The old man keeps his plans close to his chest. Doesn’t share them with many.”
There. A slight pressing of his lips together. She’d touched a raw nerve—Merlin really hadn’t told him anything, but probably had told his trollhunter. And Douxie was acting as if that didn’t bother him. “Right, well, I’m assuming this isn’t a friendly social call, so what are you here for?”
The trembling. The slight shaking of his hands. He was trying so hard not to be scared of her, not to show any fear, and she hated every second of it. But she waved her hand as if she didn’t care.
“Well, quite frankly, dealing with Merlin is going to be annoying enough, and I don’t particularly want any other wizards getting in my way, not even little apprentices.”
The pretense of nonchalance dropped. Douxie’s skin was paler than paper. “So that’s it,” he said in a shell-shocked voice, “You’re here to kill me?”
Morgana examined her hand while her heart screamed at her to give him a hug and tell him that of course she wasn’t here to kill him, of course she wasn’t going to hurt him and she never would. “I don’t want to spill any more magical blood than I need to,” she said instead, “Merlin has to go, of course, but you don’t have to die.” Here it went. The pitch. She had to nail her acting perfectly. “Stay out of the fight, Douxie, and there won’t be any reason for you to get hurt.”
“So, what, just let you run rampant all over the world? Stand by while you destroy Arcadia?”
Morgana gave him a cool look. One more barb should do it. “Shouldn’t be a problem if you really do trust Merlin. Don’t you believe that he and his trollhunter can defeat me?”
“Of course I do,” Douxie replied staunchly, “They can defeat you, and Gunmar, and Angor Rot, and whatever else you throw at them.”
“Then it should be an easy decision to make,” Morgana countered.
Douxie hesitated. “Why do you care so much?”
A slight thrill of panic shot through Morgana, but she kept her outside cool and collected, hoping that Douxie wasn’t as good at reading her as she was at reading him. “Like I said. One less wizard to worry about.”
Douxie crossed his arms. Hm. Maybe he was able to read her. “If you’re so sure you can win, why does it matter if I’m there or not?”
“I’d rather not have one more nuisance in my hair if I don’t have to,” Morgana repeated, “And, like I said, there’s no need to waste magic.”
“If you do win, that’s not the end of it,” Douxie taunted, “If I stay out of the battle and you win, I won’t have any choice but to take up Merlin’s job and fight back.”
He’d gotten more perceptive in the last 900 years. Morgana had been counting him on being the same sweet, bumbling, somewhat-clueless moppet apprentice he’d been when she’d fought Merlin and been sealed away. Apparently, that wasn’t the case, and now he was going on the offensive. “I could just kill you right here, if you prefer,” she snarled, while her inner voice screamed at her not to threaten him.
Douxie’s gaze leveled with hers. “I don’t think you will,” he challenged, “I don’t think you want to hurt me.”
That was it. All the cards were on the table. This wasn’t how this was supposed to go! She’d been quiet too long. She needed to say something, or her silence would confirm just as much as a verbal agreement.
“I—” she stuttered. Oh, that was almost as bad. Fine. “And what if I don’t?” she yelled back, standing up with a scrape from her chair and leaning forward, her hands on the table while the little voice inside her cheered, “What if maybe, just maybe, I don’t want to see you—” people were starting to stare. She couldn’t draw attention to this. She struggled to get her breathing under control and sat back down. “What if maybe I don’t want to see you get torn apart by Gum-Gums, hm? Just—sit this one out, Douxie. You don’t need to fight this battle.”
He crossed his arms, looking away. “You know, for hating each other so much, you and Merlin apparently share a mind,” he said bitterly, “He told me to sit it out, too.”
Douxie was obedient to a fault sometimes—if Merlin had told him to stay out of the battle, maybe he would. “Good.”
“No! I don’t want to sit on the sidelines! My friends—”
“Friends?” Morgana echoed.
“Yeah. Claire. Jim, even though I think he maybe hates me for some reason? They’ll be fighting. And my human friends, my coworkers here, those odd siblings—Aja and Krel? Even if I stand aside and I live, all of them—they won’t survive, will they?”
His voice cracked, and Morgana shifted uncomfortably. She didn’t think about the casualties often. They were necessary for the greater good of all magical creatures. Maybe she was thinking a bit too much like Merlin—something she’d always wanted to avoid.
“War has casualties, Douxie, I cannot pretend otherwise. The trollhunter must die, yes, and I can’t promise that your young shadowmancer friend will make it out alive, either.”
“And I’m just supposed to sit back and accept that?! I want to protect the people I love, but somehow that’s wrong according to you and Merlin!”
“Douxie, you’re not ready for a war.”
Douxie laughed. “Morgana, you and Merlin were asleep for the last nine-hundred years, but I wasn’t. I’ve seen more wars than you or Merlin could ever understand, and some of them used much, much more horrifying weapons than what you and the Gum-Gums will do. I can handle myself, but you don’t think I’m ready, and Merlin certainly doesn’t. I’m not a kid!”
“No one said you were.”
“Merlin seems to think so.”
Yes, that sounded like Merlin. “Merlin is worried that if he lets you loose, you’ll end up like me. Don’t pay any attention to him.”
Douxie’s hands curled into fists. “I’m ready to fight—I am—but Merlin won’t let me. He says I need to keep myself hidden longer. But I’m tired of hiding! I’m tired of being a silent sentinel! I want to do something!”
What exactly was she supposed to say to that? At least he wasn’t scared anymore—he was a little bit too comfortable with her now, as if finding out she wasn’t going to kill him had sent him right back to where they’d been before she’d left—Morgana the older apprentice, and he the younger. Both of them looking for something more. Each of them a willing ear for the other when Merlin had shut them down for the umpteenth time.
“Well,” she said finally, “I don’t really want to fight and hurt you this battle. So perhaps it is a good idea for all our sakes that you sit this one out. It might get ugly if you join in.”
“You don’t have to fight anyone at all. Just call off the Eternal Night.”
She should have known this would happen. “Douxie—”
“You don’t have to go through with it,” he continued, interrupting her, “You could call off Gunmar, or better yet, just not start the Eternal Night and just watch them all turn to stone.”
“No,” Morgana said sharply, “I’m doing this.” She got up, turning to go. “Last warning, Douxie. Stay inside. Stay out of my way. I don’t want to hurt you. But if I have to… well, just make sure I don’t have to.”
Because I’m not sure if I’ll be able to if it comes to that.

hello! for the number ask thingy can i request 28 + doppo and maybe like a pining coworker on a business trip together ? 😳
Kannonzaka Doppo:
Doppo hated work trips.
The only saving grace to this business trip he was being forced on was the fact you, a relatively new hire who he got along with surprisingly well, would be attending alongside him. There were a few other annoying co-workers that were tagging along but Doppo didn’t really care about them, he was all too focused on not making himself not look like a fool in front of you. Upon hearing that Doppo would be attending said trip with you Hifumi had started to give him tips on how to impress you, assuring that his roommate took only his best-looking suits and wishing him good luck as he saw him off at the door. Doppo wondered when Hifumi became his mother but he didn’t have longer to think about it as you came into view, waving at him as you both stepped onto the train that’d take you to your destination together.
The conversation is pleasant and light-hearted, you were the type that had no problem talking even when he faltered, and he appreciated that you put in the effort to try with him. He doesn’t know if anything would come from it, what you would possibly see in someone like him, but talking to you during his lunch break was such a welcome occurrence he found that he didn’t care. He was just happy knowing someone shared his feelings of frustration over how the boss treated him and that they were willing to listen to his near endless list of complaints. He, of course, listened to anything and everything you wanted to tell him, taking some interest in your life though you seemed to be a workaholic just like he was (against your will, just like him).
“Wow, they actually paid for us to stay somewhere nice this time,” You looked up at the tall hotel in front of you with an amused smile, looking to Doppo for confirmation that it was, indeed, far nicer than any place your work had chosen to put you up before, “This could be a nice chance to relax. There’s a place we passed on the way here that we should go to dinner later… Oh, only if you want to! Sorry, I didn’t mean to get ahead of myself.”
All Doppo generally did between the many meetings he was about to suffer through was sleep but he was more than willing to give that up if it meant having dinner with you. In fact, his heart is already fluttering in his chest at the fact you even wanted to spend time with him outside of work hours. He tries to keep his cool but he finds himself wanting to excitedly text Hifumi about the development, stopping short as he realized he sounded like a lovesick fool and he had to keep it together. It didn’t mean that much, just two friends having dinner together, so he shouldn’t get ahead of himself. He should be worried about not appearing completely boring to you so you’d actually want to continue spending time with him.
The first bump in the road hits when you go to check into your rooms.
Or more like room.
“You’re telling me this is the only room they had left?!”
“We’re sorry, sir, we’re quite busy around these parts so we’re almost always booked.” The hotel worker didn’t seem very apologetic, more tired than anything, something Doppo could identify with. “If there’s an issue I would suggest speaking with your boss.”
Doppo would rather die than interact with that man more than he had to.
“We’re okay!” You offered up, grabbing onto Doppo’s arm, “We’re fine with sharing the room. Thank you for your help.”
The walk to the room felt too uncomfortably silent for Doppo to emotionally deal with, wondering what your true thoughts might be about being stuck with him all weekend. He’s so busy thinking about you and your potential discomfort that he doesn’t immediately notice the next issue that’s presented, which is the fact the room had only one bed. He can feel a meltdown coming on as you tried desperately to keep your face neutral at the situation, turning to Doppo and giving him a strained smile as you set your things down.
“I’m sorry you had to be stuck in a room with someone like me. I’m sure there’s someone else you’d prefer being stuck with...”
“To be fair, I trust you way more than any of those other jerks we work with.” You patted his shoulder as you sat on the bed, eyes lighting up at how soft and comfortable it was, “We can just make the best of the situation, yeah? We can start with dinner tonight~ I’ll look up the menu to make sure there’s stuff we both eat there.”
Doppo looked at you like you’d just told him he’d won the lottery, mouth falling open and proper words failing to come to him. Could a man actually get this lucky? There was no way he hadn’t slammed his head into a railing or something on the train and he was simply dreaming up this entire scenario as a very worried you fanned his face, desperately trying to get him to wake up so the other passengers wouldn’t step on him. He stayed in that spot in the doorway for another minute or so before he heard the sound of fellow coworkers coming down the hallway, shutting the door before they get a good view of you lounging on the bed scrolling through your phone.
“Here, here! Do you like this? Or maybe this! I know your roommate makes this for you a lot since you always have it for lunch the next day too…”
This was actually happening, wasn’t it? Did he have a right to feel this happy? To imagine what it might be like to do this with you but in the comfort of his own home rather than a hotel room…
He doesn’t know, but he wasn’t about to look a gift horse in the mouth, not when it meant spending more time with you.

amuse me
a bakugou x reader ff
description: working at an amusement park might seem like fun and games, but when you're stuck with your coworker bakugou katsuki, things may or may not be amusing—to say the least. with the way the two of you sling insults back and forth, your fellow coworkers had nicknamed the two of you 'love birds', a nickname bakugou was quick to shut down every time it's brought up. on the other hand, maybe you wished the title were true, but you'd never tell him that. or maybe you would.
ingredients: bakugou katsuki/reader, bakugou katsuki, tsundere bakugou, swearing, amusement park, co-workers, roller coaster, ferris wheels, make out on ferris wheel, one shot
flavor: sweet 🍬
calories: 8,562
🥐
A bead of sweat trickled down the back of your neck, and even with all the fans blowing cool air around you, the heat didn’t dissipate as you sat at the control panel for the rollercoaster, people shuffling in line as they waited, whether from the intense heat or from nerves, you didn’t know. To distract yourself from the sweltering heat, you picked at the dirt beneath your manicured fingers and waited for the cars to return back to the station so the riders could exit and new victims—you meant, amusement park goers—could settle into their seats and experience the ride you operated. The shifting of those waiting in line rang in your ears and mixed with the heat to give you a headache.
The rails clinked as the cars returned, the riders sitting in silence with their messy hair from the wind, eyes wide as they processed what happened. You pressed the button to unlatch everyone’s bar that secured them in place, and little by little, the people pushed it out of their way and exited the cars, excitedly talking to their friends about how every twist and turn caught them off guard and how they’d be willing to ride it again. You didn’t miss the few glances sent back at you as a group of teenage boys whispered to each other about you, the comments about how pretty you were inflating your ego, and you offered them a little wave and smile, topped off by a wink that sent them blushing and scurrying away.
You chuckled to yourself and leaned back in your seat, relishing in the cool air that blew against your warm face. A burning sensation on your face that wasn’t from the heat grabbed your attention, and you dragged your eyes up to look at your coworker, Bakugou Katsuki, who glared at you, arms crossed and forearm muscles flexing as his eyes told you to hurry up. With a roll of your eyes, you grabbed the microphone on the control panel, and after hitting the button below it, urged the people waiting to file into their cars and ready themselves for departure. You pressed the button to lower the seat bars and watched as Bakugou went around to each person to check their seats to make sure they were secured.
Air blew through your nose as you suppressed a laugh from escaping your mouth as you watched a girl twirl her hair around between her fingers, eye-fucking Bakugou as he leaned forward to push the bar down, and you didn’t miss the way she placed her hand on the bar before he retracted his. He offered her a nod with a deadpan face, and you covered your mouth as the girl sat there with wide eyes. Another girl called out that she thought her seat was loose, and Bakugou sighed before he walked over to her to check her seat, which you knew was fastened well. Another day, another attempt at the girls to flirt with Bakugou, though he met each attempt with the same bored expression. Once he pulled away from the cars and stood off to the side, you grabbed your handy-dandy microphone again and tapped it a few times to test it.
“Are you all ready to depart from the station?” you asked with your best announcer voice, and a few mumbles met your ears. You shook your head. “I couldn’t hear you! I said, are you ready to depart?” This time, a loud chorus of voices cheering “yes” answered you, and you smiled while Bakugou gave you an irritated look. You ignored him and focused on the buttons in front of you, a small smile spreading on your face as you eyed the red button in the center, aka your favorite button to press. “Okay! You’ll be departing in… Three… Two…” Before you reached one, your hand dipped down to slam into the red button, and the roller coaster shot off from the station, confused screams echoing as the people shot forward without warning.
You turned your attention towards the people waiting in line, and you offered a sickly sweet smile and wave of your hands as they gave you frightened looks. Bakugou made his way over to you, his shoulders shaking as he tried to hide his laughter. He stood beside your little hut and leaned his forearms against the window.
“That wasn’t very nice of you,” he said, and you let out a scoff.
“Says you. I saw you trying to hold back your laughter. This is like the fiftieth time I’ve done this, so you shouldn’t be surprised anymore. Plus, it’s the only thing keeping me from running away and dunking my head into a bucket full of ice.” You shuddered as another bead of sweat rolled down your spine, and an idea came to your mind. You turned your head to the side and gave Bakugou your sweetest smile and tilted your head. “Would you be a dear and buy me a cool drink? I might just pass out at this rate,” you said.
“No.”
Damn, you didn’t expect him to shoot you down right away.
“Why not?” you whined, really wanting a cool drink to help with the headache and heat stroke.
“Because you’re gross. Don’t try to treat me like those pubescent boys you love flirting with. Makes you look ugly.”
“But I have a headache,” you said, and he rolled his eyes.
“Not my problem,” he said, and he pushed himself off from the window. Before he could leave, though, you grabbed his arm to keep him there, and he looked at you with annoyance.
“Now look here, Ba-chan,” you said, loving the way his jaw twitched at the nickname he so hated from you. “I’m not the one who came to work late now, am I? I’ve been here two hours longer than you have, meaning I’ve had to work in this sweltering heat two hours more than you. I had to walk back and forth those two hours because you weren’t here to do your job, so the least you can do is get me a drink as a thank you for my hard work.” You leaned in closer to his face, and he flinched slightly at your proximity to his face. “You have about 10 minutes left before the next batch of people are up."
“First off, don’t call me ‘Ba-chan’, ugly,” he said, prying your iron grip from his arm. “And second off, stop bringing that up, you whore. The boss already chewed me out for being late, even though I told him I had to take an important exam, so I don’t need your annoying voice adding to my irritation. Get your own drink if you have time.”
You retracted your hand and crossed your arms over your chest. “But I’m sitting down, and you’re standing up. It only makes sense that you go. I can even give you money, so just grab a drink. You already wasted like half of the time by doing nothing, shrimp dick. Now get going or I’ll kick you.”
“What did you call me, bitch?” He glared at you, and if you didn’t have millions of pictures of blackmail of him, you would have cowered in your seat from fear. Instead, he just looked like an angry pomeranian.
“Nothing, asswipe. Now go or I’ll tell Boss you tried to ditch work to fool around with a girl.”
“You manipulative slut.” He let out an exasperated sigh and ran a hand through his puffy hair. “I’m five seconds away from killing you right here and now.”
You bit your lip and gave him a wink. “That’s sexy.”
His lip curled in disgust. “Die. Just die, you disgusting excuse for a human being. I’ll get you your damn drink if it means you’ll never spew shit like that ever again.”
You tapped your chin and hummed in thought for a few seconds, hiding your smile as you watched Bakugou shift in place as he waited for you to say something. “Deal,” you said after a few seconds, and you shoved money into his hand before waving goodbye to him.
He didn’t miss the chance to curse you out as he stomped away from the ride towards the nearest drink stand, and those in the line watched him in silence as he disappeared. With him gone, you leaned forward and rested your elbows on the panel in front of you, your forehead positioning itself against your hands as you rubbed your temples in an attempt to alleviate your headache. It didn’t take long before Bakugou returned with both his hands full and a bucket clutched between his arm and torso. He stood behind you and shoved a cup of shaved ice into your hand while he placed the other cup he held into the bucket, which you found out housed ice water.
You reached a hand up to ruffle his hair, shocked by how soft the strands felt against your fingertips. “Good boy,” you said.
“Yeah, whatever. Now don’t complain about your headache anymore. It’s annoying,” he said after he swatted your hand away from his head.
You smiled at him and spooned a chunk of shaved ice into your mouth, your eyes turning into crescents as you lost yourself in the refreshing feel of coldness that rushed over your body and mixed with the sweet flavorings. You hummed in content with a wide smile on your face, and Bakugou crossed his arms as he watched you eat.
“There’s a drink by your feet in the bucket if you get thirsty.” He pointed towards the bucket he placed near your feet, and you followed with your eyes.
“Thank you!” you said, and he rolled his eyes. You grabbed a spoonful of shaved ice and held it out for him. “Say ‘ah’!”
Bakugou gave you an incredulous look and pushed the spoon out of his face. “I don’t like that flavor.”
You huffed and plopped the spoon into your mouth. “You should have got one you liked so we could share it!” you mumbled around the spoon, your eyes trailing after a sweat bead that trickled down the side of his face and his neck before it disappeared underneath the collar of his shirt.
“Just do your job,” he told you as he turned around and walked back towards the railway as the sound of screams and wheels screeching came closer. Though he acted like that, you didn’t miss the redness of his ears as his back became smaller.
“Fine, be that way, fucknugget. I’m never offering you any food ever again, bitch!” you called out to him, and he responded by flicking his middle finger at you.
The cars returned, and you released the restraints and watched the riders stumble out of their seats towards the exit. You and Bakugou’s eyes met, and you stuck your tongue out at him, his hand tightening around his bicep as he suppressed the urge to strangle you. As the next group of people settled into their seats and Bakgo adjusted their seats, you pushed the button that shot them forward after they answered your question, not even bothering to count down. This time, Bakugou didn’t hold back his laughter, and you felt your chest warm as the sound spread through the air and reached your ears, bringing a small smile to your face as you watched his chest bounce from the laughter. Maybe you could handle being stuck here a little bit longer.
---
The moment one of your coworkers offered to take you and Bakugou’s roles at the roller coaster, you jumped on the chance to leave and get some well deserved rest. You and Bakugou walked side by side while you sipped on the Cola he bought for you a couple hours ago, no destination in mind. All you wanted to do was eat some good ass good and sprawl out on a comfortable chair instead of a rickety wooden stool that wobbled at the slightest movement. Your face lightened up when you spotted a group of your coworkers sitting around a group of tables, munching on burgers, pizza, and chilli dogs, and you rushed over to them to steal an empty seat.
“Heyya, there,” one coworker said.
“Hi, Yurina. Junta, Mina, Daisuke, Haru.” You saluted them as you pulled out the chair and plopped down into it, spreading your legs out and slouching as Yurina slid you a slice of pizza. Bakugou took a seat across from you and fixed you with a disappointed look. You took a bite of pizza before you sipped on the Cola, the liquid disappearing and leaving behind a sucking sound that irked Bakugou.
“Shut up. You’re pissing me off,” he growled, and the other coworkers stopped their conversation to look between the two of you. Junta pulled out a bag of popcorn and munched on it while watching with wide eyes and slapped Mina’s hand away when she tried to steal some.
“What? I’m just finishing my drink off. Don’t get your panties in a twist, sweetums,” you fired back, and he clenched his jaw.
“If you’re done, then you don’t need to keep sipping from it, fuckface.”
“I gotta make sure I get every last drop, okay? Just chill out. Eat a Snickers. You’re not you when you’re hungry,” you said, and your coworkers chuckled before they shut up when Bakugou turned his irritation towards them.
“Shut. Up.”
You leaned your head against the back of the chair. “Getting really creative there, aren’t ya, Ba-chan?”
“I’ll kill you, fuckslut.”
“I’d like to see you try, shrimp dick,” you shot back.
“Stop calling me that.”
You just shrugged your shoulders and shook the cup in your hand. The ice rattled around inside it, and a drop of condensation dripped down onto the ground as you sat there in silence. “But it’s the truth.”
Your coworkers froze as they waited for Bakugou’s reaction, and it didn’t take long for it to happen. The moment those words left you, he stood from his seat, the chair screeching against the ground, and stalked towards you. You crossed your legs to keep a distance between the two of you as he stood in front of you with neck veins popping. Your leg between the two of you didn’t stop him as he leaned forward, hands bracing against the arms of the chair as he brought his face close to yours. Your body tensed as you stared right into his eyes that burned with irritation.
“Do you wanna bet?” he said, and you gulped, cursing yourself for getting intimidated by him.
You tried to play your hesitation off by scoffing, and he cocked an eyebrow at your response. “What are you gonna do? Whip it out right now? I don’t think that would be a good idea. You don’t want to ruin everyone’s appetite now, do you?”
“I really want to strangle you right now,” Bakugou breathed out, and you smirked at him.
“Do it then. I’ll enjoy it.”
Your response left him speechless, and before he could do anything, a coworker interrupted.
“Okay, that’s enough, lovebirds. We get it. The two of you are madly in love,” Yurina said, and Bakugou stared at her with a wide open mouth and disbelief in his eyes.
“Huh?! What makes you think I like this ugly bitch?” Bakugou questioned as he pointed a finger at you.
You held your hands up in mock surrender, eyebrows raised as you leaned back in your chair even more. “Hey, I know I’m irresistible, Ba-chan, but to deny your undying love for me that hard? Sounds fishy to me.”
He whirled around to look at you, eyebrows furrowed and forehead creased. “You hate me just as much as I hate you.”
“Yeah, yeah, asseater. Whatever you say.” You waved a hand in front of your face in dismissal of his words, and he readied himself to stomp forward and wrap his hands around your throat to shake you by your neck.
Daisuke held up a hand to stop him. “Hey now. Don’t go attacking her. She’s like our mascot, so don’t mess up her cute face.”
Mina sighed. “I’m right here. I thought we agreed that I was the mascot of this amusement park.”
“You’ve got nothing on Y/N,” Haru said as he ruffled Mina’s hair and chuckled when she whined and slapped him.
“Yeah, if you’re gonna do something to her, Baku boy, do it where people won’t see it. I’d say your best bet is to kick her ass or give her a purple nurple. That would be funny!” Junta said, and Yurina stole the popcorn bucket from his hands and threw it away, much to the boy’s dismay.
“You should know better than to purple nurple a girl, stupid,” Yurina told him.
“I thought the name calling was Y/N and Bakugou’s thing…” he trailed off, and Yurina pinched him.
Before anyone could say anything else, Bakugou let out a loud sigh. “I’m off. See you losers later,” he said as he walked towards the park entrance, his hand raised beside him in farewell.
“Huh? But I thought we were having a nice conversation...” Haru said, but Bakugou didn’t respond.
“Boss is gonna get mad at you, Baku boy!” Junta called, cupping his hands around his mouth to amplify his voice. “You came two hours late and got off before everyone else. Get ready for another lecture tomorrow!”
“Fuck off! I’m leaving cuz there’s nothing else for me to do, and all of you guys are pissing me off.” He flicked you all off before he disappeared out the entrance, and you took one last sip from your cup, wincing at the watered down taste of Cola hitting your tastebuds.
“I guess that’s my cue to leave! See you all later!” you said as you jumped out of your seat and dropped your cup full of melted ice mixed with droplets of Cola you didn’t quite get out.
“Aw, come one! You’re gonna be a wet blanket just like Bakugou?” Junta asked, and you shook your head.
“I’d love to laugh with you over funny park goers, but I’ve had a headache for the past 4 hours, and it hasn’t gotten better. I’m going to take some medicine and catch some Zs so that I can return tomorrow in tip-top shape! Love ya!” You blew all of them a kiss before you skipped off after Bakugou to reach your car.
You saw your target fishing his keys out of his pockets, and you snuck forward before you jumped out and poked him in the side. He cursed and clutched his side as he whirled around at you.
“What the fuck, bitch. Don’t do that shit,” he cursed at you, and you giggled.
“Yeah yeah, I won’t do it again. Just wanted to say see you tomorrow, shrimp dick,” you told him, and he rolled his eyes.
“I hope you get your day off soon so you can leave me the hell alone,” he said before he slipped into his car and drove off without another word, leaving you waving at his retreating car. He rolled his window down and stuck his middle finger out at you, and you chuckled before going to your own car and sighing as you turned it on.
Oh, how you hoped you would get your day off soon, too.
---
Your next day off came too late, in your opinion. A full week of sitting on a hard, wooden bench made your ass ache, and the constant summer heat didn’t help any, especially when it combined with Bakugou’s constant annoyed glares whenever you stopped moving to collect your bearings. Now, you could relax the whole day without worry of pubescent boys trying to flirt with you as the heat threatened to kill you. The only problem was you had no idea where to go.
As the amusement park was your job and required a large amount of your time, it was the only place you could think of going besides maybe the mall or a cafe, which you had already stopped by on your way home from work the few days before to grab some cute outfits. You made sure to check the weather forecast this morning, and a smile stretched across your face when it showed that today would be a lot cooler than the past week had been. You decided to wear one of the new outfits you bought since the weather would permit it.
After you pulled on your jean shorts that showed off the curve of your body and stared at your ass in your body length mirror longer than you would care to admit, you pulled on a tank top and wrapped a flannel around your waist before finishing the outfit off with combat boots. You got into your car and drove off towards the amusement park to let yourself loose. Families and couples filed into the park, and you settled into the line to get your ticket before you walked around the park to find something to do.
You decided to play at the arcade for an hour, too afraid to go on a ride by yourself. A few boys tried to chat you up, but one glare from you sent them turning away with their tails between their legs. When you died in your zombie game, you cursed and exited the arcade to find your next time waster. Outside a restaurant, you spotted two familiar people, one of them furiously twisting their head around to get a look at their ass.
You walked up to them, and Yurina greeted you while Mina busied herself with pulling her shorts around to check them. A red splotch on them told you all you needed to know, and when Mina spotted it, her eyes widened.
“No, no, no , no! This can’t be happening. Oh my God!” Mina freaked out as Yurina checked her backside to be safe.
“Shit, you did bleed through. You don’t have any spare shorts, do you?” she asked the panicking girl, who shook her head and crouched onto the floor while she clutched her head.
“This is so embarrassing! What-what if one of the guys saw? Do you think they’d make fun of me?”
You crossed your arms. “If they do, I’ll beat their asses for you.” A hand reached down to the knot that kept your flannel secured around your waist, and you untied the shirt to hand it to Mina. “Wrap this around your waist. It’s thick enough, so it should cover it up. Plus, it’s red and black, so nothing should show up.”
“Oh, thank you, Y/N! I’ll make sure to clean it before I give it back to you tomorrow!” Mina said as she grabbed the shirt from you and wrapped it around her waist, bowing to you in thanks once she fastened it.
“Just don’t overwork yourself. I’ll be getting going now. There’s many more rides for me to go on!” You waved goodbye to the two of them and set off to your next destination: a food stand because hunger gnawed at your stomach.
Though several restaurants stood around you and beckoned for you to come inside, all you wanted was a corndog from your favorite stand. The line wasn’t long, luckily for you, and you walked up to the window to give Haru a smile as he readied himself for your order.
“I’m guessing you just want what you always get,” he said, and you nodded.
“Yup! You know me so well.”
He shook his head as he busied himself with getting your food for you. “You should really get something else than just this all the time. It isn’t healthy, and it doesn’t taste that good.”
“Should you really be saying that about the food you’re making?” When he shrugged, you sighed. “You’re right, but I honestly don’t care anymore,” you said as you placed your money in front of him and leaned against the frame of the stand. “I came here just for you.” You winked at him, and he rolled his eyes with a smile.
“Just take your corndog and get out of here. You’re holding the line up.”
You took the corndog from him and stuck your tongue out at him before you left the line and worked on eating the hot dog on a stick. As Haru said, it wasn’t very good, but anything was good enough for your hungry stomach. You just wanted to see Haru in his cute little hat to recharge your battery, hence why it was your favorite stand.
The taste of wood hit your tongue, and you pulled the stick out of your mouth, the corndog gone. You flicked the stick into the trash can and hummed as you shoved your hands into your pockets while you walked around aimlessly. A familiar mop of fluffy blond hair caught your eye, and you hurried forward to catch the person as they stood in front of a drink stand. They looked off to the side, and you gasped.
“Ba-chan!” you said in surprise as you locked eyes with Bakugou, a finger pointing at him, and he scowled as he paid for his drink and left the line.
“Stop calling me that, asshat.” He took a sip of his drink and stepped towards you to drop your hand that pointed at him.
You hmphed and crossed your arms. “Then what should I call you, huh?” A name crossed your mind, and you held back a chuckle. “How about ‘Tsukki’? Y’know, cuz Katsuki! Am I genius, or am I genius?”
“What the fuck…? No. No way in hell are you calling me that. Not even my parents call me that.” He glared at you as you giggled to yourself over your nickname for him.
“It’s either Ba-chan or Tsukki, sweetums. Take your pick.”
He rolled his eyes at you. “Fine. Just call me Tsukki.”
You squealed in excitement and fished out your phone, going to contacts—you forced him to give you his number in case of emergencies—and changing his name to ‘Tsukki 🤬💢🖕🏻💣💥'. “Ooh, what’s my name in your phone?”
“Annoying, useless shitfuck,” he said, and you stared at him. “What? It fits you.”
“Well then, if I’m so annoying, then I guess I’ll just stick to you the rest of your time at the amusement park.”
“No. Why the fuck would you do that?”
“Because I want to annoy you. Also, you’re alone, and I’m alone. It’s depressing going on rides without someone else. You’re my scapegoat so that people don’t judge me,” you told him, and he crumpled the empty cup in his hand and tossed it into the trash. Without a word, he walked in the other direction, leaving you behind to scramble up to him. “You didn’t answer whether you’d mind or not.”
He kept his eyes focused ahead of you and didn’t spare you a glance. “Just do whatever the hell you want.”
A bright smile lit up your face, and you grabbed onto his arm, much to his surprise, and dragged him to a ride. Though it wasn’t as hot as the past week had been, the sun still bore down on you, and all you wanted was to cool off. The amusement park’s version of Splash Mountain moved on in front of you, people squealing or yelling when water splashed them. You kept a grip on Bakugou to keep him from running, and he didn’t try to shake you off.
Your turn came, and you settled into the seat with Bakugou grumbling to himself as he climbed in next to you. You tapped your feet in anticipation, and the bar lowered. Junta came over to press them down, and his eyes widened when he saw you sitting next to Bakugou.
“So you two finally decided to go on a date, huh? Took you all long enough,” he said as he secured the bar and pushed it up against your thighs.
“Like hell it’s a date. There are other people on this ride, so go secure them in, dipshit,” Bakugou snapped at him, and Junta chuckled before he went to the other passengers.
“You’re getting a little defensive there, aren’t ya, Tsukki? Are you sure you don’t want this to be a date?” you asked him as you wrapped your hands around his bicep to lean close to the side of his face.
“Your nails are digging into me,” he said, and you released him.
“Oh, sorry.” You placed your hands in your lap and sat straight in your seat. Before long, the ride started, and you sat stiffly in your seat as Bakugou stared off to the side with a bored expression.
You let out a sigh as the cart rose up a small hill, ready for it to crash down and send water splashing all over you. The ride stalled at the top of the rise, tottering ever so slightly, and screams erupted when it shot forward down the steep slope into the water that waited at the bottom. You hummed in content as cool droplets of water splashed over you and drenched your warm body. You wiped wet strands of hair out of your eyes and pulled your shirt off of your body before you turned to the side to look at Bakugou. Your hand shot up to cover your mouth as you looked at his usually puffy hair sitting flat against his face, lips turned into a scowl as his bangs blocked his vision.
“You look like a wet dog!” You couldn’t hold back your cackles as you pointed at him and clutched your stomach as it began to hurt from how hard you were laughing.
He pushed his hair back out of his face and glared at you as the cart pulled up to a stop and let you off. You kept laughing at him as he stomped off. After you let all your giggles out of your system, you rushed after him to drag him to the next ride. Though he complained, he still let you pull him around.
Even when you forced him to stand in line for the spinning teacups, he acted annoyed, but he never left the line and stood right beside you. He fixed you with glares whenever you spun the teacup as fast as you could, but he never yelled at you, the happy smile on your face enough to keep his mouth shut. With the wind whipping around you, his hair dried and returned to its puffy shape. Once the teacup ride ended, you pulled a wobbly Bakugou to bumper cars where you targeted him and harassed him while he cursed at you, earning a lecture from Daisuke about keeping the language to a minimum when children were around when the bumper cars stopped.
You watched as Bakugou kept his head down while Daisuke chastised him, and you covered your mouth to hide your laughter. Daisuke let him off with a slap on the back, and he wished the two of you a happy date, which Bakugou gave him an earful for even suggesting. You then dragged Bakugou off to go-karts after he calmed down. The way you lapped him with ease made you wonder how he even got his license, but you kept that question to yourself.
You and Bakugou slumped onto a bench to catch your breaths from all the running around you forced both of you to do, and you leaned your head back and spread your arms across the back of the bench. Bakugou braced himself on his knees as he took deep breaths. He leaned back against the bench, and when he hit your arm, he grabbed it and placed it in your lap.
“You’ve had your fun of dragging me around, so it’s my turn to choose where we go,” he said, and you nodded, not listening to what he was saying.
You wish you had because the rollercoaster he dragged you towards was one you’d sworn to never ride in a million years. The many loopty loops and steep drops coupled with twisting rails and sharp curves made you five seconds away from pissing yourself from fear. Just staring at it as the cars shot around it at a furious pace made your legs weak, and you readied yourself to run away. Too bad Bakugou had an iron grip on your wrist as he pulled you towards the stairs that led up to the platform. When you reached it, he urged you to go first, whether to keep your from running away when he wasn’t looking or to stare at the view of your ass, you didn’t know.
With a trembling leg, you stepped up onto the first step and then the next, and the next, Bakugou right behind you. You felt eyes boring into your ass, and to hide your shaking, you glanced over your shoulder.
“Are you staring at my ass?!” you asked as you turned around to see your ass level with Bakugou’s face as you stopped climbing the stairs. He tilted his head to the side as his hand gripped the railing, and he fixed you with an annoyed expression.
“You’re the one shoving it into my face. Either hurry the fuck up or let me go in front of you if it bothers you that much, dumbass.”
“I’ll fucking sit on you, pomeranian,” you told him through clenched teeth.
“And I’ll push you off, shitlicker.”
You hmphed and started up the stairs faster until you reached the line for the roller coaster. Though you played it off and acted nonchalant about everything, you couldn’t hide the fact that your legs shook and that sweat formed on your hands and made them clammy. You’d never admit it to Bakugou, but you hated roller coasters, even though you worked at one with him. The twists and turns mixed with the zipping speed of the cars made you sick to the stomach. The line moved forward, but you stayed in place. Bakugou nudged you with his elbow, and you stumbled forward, your legs threatening to give out from underneath you at any moment.
“Get moving, dumbass. You’re holding the line up.” When you didn’t move, he leaned down into your ear, his hot breath fanning the shell of it. “Don’t tell me you’re scared. The Y/N who acts all high and mighty being scared of a little roller coaster? Unthinkable.”
“Shut up,” you ground out, and you forced yourself forward until you stood right against the gate that led to the platform, the batch of people in front of you settling into their seats and being secured in before Yurina started the ride and watched them shoot off.
Shallow breaths came out of you as your chest heaved, and you clutched the railing to support your failing legs. When you just about crumpled to the floor, Bakugou wrapped an arm around your waist to steady you.
“Are you okay? If you couldn’t handle this roller coaster, you should have told me. We can exit the line now if you need to,” Bakugou told you, and you shook your head.
You looked back at him and gritted your teeth as you glared at him. “I’m… I’m not a pussy…” As the cars returned, you pushed yourself up, gave a worried Yurina a weary smile, and waited for the gate in front of you to open up and let you file out into your seat.
Once the people left and the gate opened, you trudged forward towards a seat somewhere in the middle, Bakugou trailing after you. With shaky legs, you clambered in, almost tripping as your leg fell down. Bakugou grabbed your arm to stabilize you, and you would never let him know how much his warm hand on your skin calmed you. Your leg bounced as you waited for a worker to secure the bar around you, and nerves ate at your stomach as the countdown for the ride started in your mind.
Your whole body shook, and Bakugou wrapped his larger hand around yours to settle your nerves. If the iron grip you had on his hand hurt, he didn’t show it and let you lace your fingers with his to squeeze his hand like a stress ball. The gears on the cart groaned, and you jumped, clutching onto Bakugou’s arm and hiding your face in his shoulder. The fear overcoming you outweighed your embarrassment from relying on Bakugou, and when Yurina pressed the button and sent the carts off, you squeezed your eyes shut and held onto his arm for dear life as you felt the wind whip around you and throw your hair around willy nilly. Bakugou never let go of your hand, and whenever you clutched onto him harder, he squeezed your hand a few times to calm you.
The ride came to an end, and you thanked all the gods you knew that it was over. You didn’t have to be told twice to get the hell off there. After throwing the bar up, you clambered over Bakugou to set foot onto the safe and stable platform. Your whole body shook, and bile threatened to come out of you. Bakugou climbed out after you and rested a hand on your back. He rubbed circles on your back while you walked towards the exit.
“Have fun, love birds,” Yurina called out to the two of you, and Bakugou didn’t say anything as he held onto your arms to steady you and lead you off of the platform and down onto the main walk areas. You stood in place at the base of the steps for a few minutes to make the shaking in your legs calm and your heart rate return to normal.
“It was cute how you clung to me on the roller coaster. If I knew you’d be that adorable, I would have dragged you on it long ago,” he said to break the silence between the two of you, and once the words left his lips, his face reddened.
Your face mirrored his as the words sank in. “Sh-Shut up,” you stammered, still shaken from the roller coaster, and his words only added to your nerves.
“Sorry,” he said, and he zipped his lips. You weren’t used to a quiet Bakugou, but you were glad he didn’t resort to his usual curses or anger and instead let you calm down.
You took a deep breath once your heart returned to normal. The sky above you reminded you of cotton candy, and you realized how late it was becoming as the sun sank in the sky. The day was coming to an end, and you still had one thing left to do.
“Let’s ride the ferris wheel,” you said, and Bakugou blinked at you.
“No,” he told you with a shake of his head, and you rolled your eyes.
“Come on! No amusement park visit is complete without the ferris wheel! It’s a classic, Tsukki.” You gripped his hands and tried to pull him towards the line at the colorful wheel, but he didn’t budge.
“It’s so cliche though. Let’s just go on the Death Drop and finish there,” he said as he planted his feet to keep from moving. You almost fell as you pulled him, and you scowled at him when you regained your balance.
“Don’t be like that! There’s nothing wrong with the ferris wheel! Are you just afraid that others will misinterpret it?” You perked your eyebrow up at him, and his lip pulled back into an annoyed snarl.
“Hell no.”
“Then there shouldn’t be a problem now should there?” you asked, and he sighed.
“I guess not.”
You smiled, happy you won the small argument, and without a word, the two of you trekked off towards the ferris wheel line. Though it was long, your excitement to ride one after several years outweighed it, and the long wait seemed to pass by in a few seconds as you bugged Bakugou. Once your turn to get into a cart arrived, you didn’t waste any time yanking him into it. You settled down onto your seat, Bakugou taking his across from you, and the cart moved.
As the ferris wheel climbed in the air, you leaned against the window to peer down on the people below. You giggled as you watched the people scurry around on the ground, couples running off to rides together or parents corralling their kids to tables to eat. You peered over at Bakugou, who sat with his legs sprawled and arms crossed over his chest as he let out irritated sighs.
“What crawled up your ass and died?” you asked while you gave him a disgusted look.
“Nothing. Just let me enjoy one damn ride in peace,” he said, and your eyebrows shot up on your forehead as you stared at him in disbelief.
“Excuse me? What the hell is that supposed to mean?”
Bakugou stared at you with slitted eyes. “Today was supposed to be my day off, but instead of being able to relax by myself, you come along and drag me everywhere. Then, when I try to go on a ride that I enjoy, you freak out and almost run off.”
“Well sorry that I thought maybe you’d have fun on bumper cars or go-karts.” You crossed your arms over your chest and returned the glare to him.
“That’s exactly what I mean. You thought I’d like them instead of actually asking me what I’d like to do.”
You blinked as his words sunk in. It was true; you had only dragged him around with you to rides you thought he’d enjoy instead of getting his opinion on the matter. “I-I’m sorry. I didn’t think of it that way.”
Bakugou sighed and ran a hand through his hair. “Yeah, clearly you didn’t. I have to deal with you every single day at work, and on the one day I thought I’d be free from you, I got stuck with you against my will.”
Okay, now that stung a little. You were all for the little name slinging you two had going on, but this wasn’t the same. His jabs at you dug into your heart, and you stood up from your seat and stalked over to him.
“And don’t get me started on the way you flirt with every boy that so much as glances at you. Could you be any more of an attention whore? If you want attention that badly, just go-” You didn’t let him finish as you fisted his hair in your hand and slammed your lips into his.
You swallowed his words as you tilted your head to the side and shoved your tongue inside his mouth, running it along the roof of his mouth. You clambered on top of him and straddled his legs. The sweet flavor of soda melted onto your tongue as you swirled it around his mouth and relished in the way he tensed underneath you. His hands gripped your waist as you placed both your hands onto the side of his face. A sudden realization hit you, and you pulled your lips off of his.
“Shit! I didn’t ask for permission.” You pulled away from him and placed your hands onto his shoulders while you stared into his eyes. “Can I kiss you, Tsukki? Because you keep talking, and it’s pissing me off, and the only other way I can think of shutting you up is to hit you.”
“Wha-?” His ears reddened, barely visible in the dimly lit ferris wheel cart, but the way he hid his face with the back of his hand and avoided your eyes made it obvious how flustered your question made him.
“Yes or no, Tsukki. If you don’t want to, I can climb off right now, and we can act like this didn’t happen. Just don’t keep insulting me to my face and think I won’t do anything about it.”
“Sorry…” he said as he looked into your eyes, apologies swimming in them, and his disheartened face tugged at your heart strings, but you wouldn’t let him manipulate you like that. “I said more than I should have and made you uncomfortable. I especially shouldn’t have called you an attention whore. You’re doing nothing wrong, but I just got mad that you weren’t looking at me and were focusing on the other guys that are leagues below you.”
“Jealousy isn’t an excuse, Tsukki,” you said, though you couldn’t stop your heart from swelling a little at the thought of Bakugou getting jealous over the random boys you decided to wink at.
“I know. I will never do it again because thinking of how my words hurt you even if you try to hide it pains me.”
Though you didn’t fully forgive him for hurting your pride like that, you weren’t going to drag it out and make everything uncomfortable. Time heals all wounds, as they say. Plus, you were tougher than that. You brought a hand up to cup the side of his face.
“Are you going to answer my question now?” you asked, lips hovering over his while your thumb caressed his bottom lip.
“Please,” he breathed out, and you smiled before you tilted his head up to capture his lips with yours.
You pressed your chest flush against his, the warmth emitting from his body heating you up and making your mind fuzzy as you twirled your tongue around his. A hand went down from your waist to cup your ass, and when he squeezed it, you moaned into his mouth and rutted your hips against him. His bulge grew beneath you, and it took all your willpower not to drop to your knees right there to take him into your mouth.
Your hands gripped his hair to pull his head farther back, and you pushed yourself up onto your knees as you deepened the kiss. Both his hands grabbed onto your ass, and he kneaded the jean covered flesh in his large, calloused fingers. The feeling of his fingers against you made your body burn, and you bounced yourself on his lap as you rubbed your lips against his. The softness of his lips against yours became a quick addiction, and when your lungs burned for air, you pulled away for a quick breath before you dipped back down to capture his lips once more.
His eyes turned glossy as he lost himself in the feeling of your soft lips against his, a scenario he had only dreamt of before unfolding before him. Your body against his, pushing closer and closer to him out of desperation for his warmth and lips reminded him that this was very much real.
You held his jaw in one hand as you pulled away from him, teeth gripping his bottom lip and tugging on it as he panted. His hands on your ass slipped down to your thighs and behind your knees. He used the chance to pull you forward, and you felt his erection pressing against you more. Your mouth went dry as it prodded you, and you smashed your lips together for one last desperate kiss when you noticed some movement when you pulled away from his lips.
Your tongues clashed in a mess of saliva and wet noises, but you didn’t care when you felt Bakugou’s arousal pressing into you. Your lips on his felt perfect, even better than you had imagined, and you never wanted to stop feeling them against yours. Your lungs begged for air, and you pulled away to stare into his glossy eyes, a string of saliva connecting your tongues that broke when you swallowed. Saliva dripped from his wide open mouth as he sat there in a daze. His hands on your ass gripped even tighter on you.
“As much as I’d like to continue this,” you gasped while you gripped the side of his face, thumb pressing inside the corner of his mouth and running across his bottom lip as you grinded your hips down onto the bulge in his jeans, relishing in the shuddering breath Bakugou let out, “I think the other passengers wouldn’t appreciate our public display,” you finished as you leaned in close to his face, lips centimeters from his.
At that, Bakugou peered over your shoulder to see a group of teenage girls in the cart next to you guys, staring at the both of you and the position you were in with wide eyes and flushed faces. You gave them a smile, held a finger to your lips, and clambered off of his lap to sit across from him. They nodded their heads and turned their attention away from the two of you. Bakugou let out an exasperated sigh and covered his face with his arm as he slung his jacket over his lap.
“Fuck you,” he breathed out, and you chuckled as you crossed your legs and arms.
“I know you want to, but this isn’t the time or place, Tsukki. Have fun taking care of that by yourself!” you said, and he sighed once more before the ferris wheel stopped and let you hop off. You let out a sadistic giggle as he wrapped his jacket around his waist to hide his boner, hissing whenever he walked. When you passed a bathroom, you gave him a knowing look, and he flicked you in the forehead and went inside, saying all he was going to do was splash his face with some water until it calmed down.
You waited outside the bathroom until he exited, wiping his hands with a wet wipe, and after he threw it away, you jumped in front of him with a wide smile. He gave you an incredulous look. You ignored the look and grabbed his hand before you dragged him forward as he stumbled behind you. “Buy me a churro,” you said as you faced him while walking backwards.
“No. Buy one yourself,” he told you, and you sighed.
“You really don’t have a single romantic bone in your body, do you?”
His eyes slitted as he glared at you, and you gave him a cheeky smile. ‘You…” He sighed and dragged his free hand down his face. As you pulled him to the nearest churro stand, he shook his head and pulled out his wallet while you excitedly stood beside him, waiting for your churro with wide eyes that sparkled like a giddy child’s. He paid for the churro and sat down at a bench, a smile reaching his face as he watched you chow down on the warm churro. He placed a hand on top of your head and ruffled your hair, eliciting a whine of annoyance from you.
“You’re lucky you’re sexy or else I’d bite your hand off,” you told him, and he chuckled, sending warmth spreading through your chest at the sound. He bent down and licked a piece of frosting off the corner of your lip, licking his own and wiping with his thumb. You stared at him with wide eyes and a flushed face. He flashed you a smirk, eyes twinkling with mischief.
“Amuse me.”
