Okay ONE more Loki post. I liked Sylvie in s1, genuinely! She was dynamic and interesting, the banter between her and Loki was on point, etc.
But then they toned down the makeup and the hairspray so she's a little less polished and gave her a small life she loves with nice coworkers and a favorite record shop. and I LOVE her
#loki spoilers#i mean yeah i think they should have let her look wrinklier and odder <3#but i can admit i'm the one watching a marvel show#if that's what i want i have come to the wrong place#anyway listen i keep seeing people say she's so selfish and she's not growing#i think that she IS selfish and she IS growing and i LOVE her#yeah it looks like she'll probably get pulled into needing to save the world one more time#(she *might* not but that's another essay i'm not gonna get into)#but i hope so bad that she gets to return to the life she loves after that#loki has been building a life with his friends and that's lovely#but the tva persecuted sylvie her entire life#*loki's friends* did that#and yes they've changed!! yes sylvie is plenty flawed too!!#but a life with them isn't the way forward that she wants#and that's okay#after all#what's so terrible about wanting something?#loki is allowed#and so is she#plus i just. god with cosmic powers who just wants to be allowed a normal life in freedom. without wielding power over anyone.#it GETS to me!!#also if Loki does end up being part of leading the TVA#so that you have one of them learning how to wield power well#and the other learning to give it up#that makes for a two sides of the same coin that i find very satisfying#(granted i for various reasons would prefer burning the TVA to the ground and loki also relinquishing power#but my guess at this point is that they won't go that way with it#which i suppose isn't surprising since it's a good tool to have in their back pocket for the films)#anyway#i love sylvie <3

they really are giving lokius stans as much as they're allowed to give us. They're literally making physical contact with each other every second they're together. They were about to die for each other. Its only episode 1

Okay, all of us Loki fans always lament the fact that the scene when Frigga officially hands the throne to Loki was cut. And for good reason, the acting and dialogue add a lot to the story. But there is one thing that people specifically are upset about that while that scene certainly helps, it isn't necessary to make this point.
In the scene where Sif and the Warriors 3 find Loki on the throne, sometimes we act like it truly does look like Loki usurped the throne because we don't literally see the scene with Frigga in the final cut. Except Loki literally tells them (and the audience) what happened. He says that Odin fell into the Odinsleep and Frigga was so grieved that she refuses to leave his side. Since Thor was banished, that means Loki is the next in line for the throne as interim king. Loki told them the truth, not his fault that they immediately were suspicious of him for *checks notes* allowing his mother to stay at his ill father's side, following the line of succession while knowing that it would be temporary, and not going back on Odin's last decree because as I said this is temporary so imagine Odin waking up to Thor having been banished for only a few hours.
Yes, I love that deleted scene, but I think it adds more than just "oh yeah Loki didn't usurp the throne" because that is already explained in the scene with Sif and the Warriors 3. I think that scene certainly added to it but it wasn't absolutely necessary. Because anyone with a basic understanding of hereditary monarchies should understand why Loki was on the throne.
I genuinely think that the people that think Loki usurped the throne just don't understand the movie. And I doubt one extra scene would make them understand it. I don't think this is a problem with the movie itself taking out one scene. I think this is a problem with the audience not having media literacy and being so convinced this is a standard hero/villain dichotomy that they can't realize that Loki's character is much more complicated that simply being a villain. I doubt a single scene would make people realize Loki isn't a throne usurping power hungry villain. They'd probably try to say that scene was Loki manipulating Frigga into handing over the throne or something ridiculous.

I'm of the opinion that MCU!Loki would be far more willing to die to save MCU!Frigga than the other way around (even if she's interpreted as genuinely caring for him), and it has fucked up angst potential.

Why I cuss (affectionately) at my deities, sometimes, and why it's important to me
I'm having some feelings tonight, so here have another "Frog is rambling again" post. This one's about Loki, because they seem intent on speedrunning teaching me shit. Seriously it's been like three weeks.
I wasn't prepared for what working with Loki actually looks like. /pos
Because what that actually looks like, apparently, is sitting watching a comedy anime and getting the distinct vibe that it has a sense of humor that Loki enjoys. And then realizing that's because Loki is actively hanging around... watching fuckin' anime with me. Why the hell would Loki want to watch a dumb comedy anime with the funny little guy he works with?
Seeing a post about watching comedy as a devotional act to Loki later felt intentional, so I ended up deciding to do just that.
Thing is, I grew up exposed to the idea that God is an all-powerful being who deserves nothing less than the best and humans are the scum of the earth. I'm only now seeing that it's been damaging my relationship with my deities. I'm afraid to just chat with them 'too casually.' I apologize if I feel like I said something that's too disrespectful. I've apologized to Loki multiple times because he pulled some shit and my response was "god damnit Loki" or "you motherfucker."
And then they remind me that I call my mom the same thing, and she laughs. It's the same with my friends. All because it's not insulting, or disrespectful, it's a sign of affection. I would never say that and mean it; they know that, so it's funny. It's playful.
Amongst many other things, Loki is teaching me that joy is to be valued. This world tells us that it's dumb, childish, or any other assortment of negative descriptors- and that it has no place in spirituality. Certainly no place in the presence of a god- and that's fucking sad. I think Loki is sad about it too. I think Loki's fucking pissed, actually. How dare we be made to feel shame for what makes us happy. The gods deserve to partake in our joy and our fun just as much as they deserve to be part of our sorrow and fear.
Maybe it's just me, but I'm starting to think that hanging out with some fucker who's scrolling through memes and blasting music might just be a nice change of pace for them.

I really don't like the way the Marvel fandom has labeled Thor: the Dark World as a "bad" movie bc what that means nowadays is that people aren't going to watch it
And hey, I'm not gonna pretend that TDW is the greatest movie of all time, it really isn't, it has a shit ton of flaws, but also. I would argue that it is the most important movie in understanding Loki's character. And the more we shove it off to the side, the more we see fanboys completely misconstruing him and writing off his reasons as "daddy issues"
Bc pleaseeee explain to me why I got a comment on my video expressing that they were more than happy that Loki was sitting at the end of time, completely miserable, bc he "got what he deserved"
First off, Loki's hatred of Odin is not the only reason he decided to take over Earth. It was the main motivator, yes, but it was nothing more than saltiness until Thanos found him and twisted that, manipulated him with the Mind Stone (not controlled) to refine it and use it in his conquest. Loki also knew that if he lost the battle, the punishment from Thanos would be immeasurable, and he couldn't risk that. If you really really believe that his reason for taking over Earth was bc he hated Odin and wanted to sock it to him, you believe his lies
And when Loki was captured, he didn't get off scot-free. We see that Odin was more than willing to execute Loki-- had it not been what Loki wanted, too, and so he knew that having a life sentence with no outside contact would be far more painful for him. Coming to terms with his crimes is exactly what Odin wanted, and while he very much hated it, Loki slowly came to that realization
"But he caused Frigga's death!" He didn't know that Frigga was with Jane, he thought it was Thor. Furthermore, he understood that Thor would be fully able to take on Kurse; all it was a bit of fun on his side, he wasn't intending on his death, just a challenge for him. When he saw that Frigga had died, instead, Loki was very obviously distraught, helping Thor on the sheer reason that he wanted revenge for her death. If he really felt nothing, do you think he would agree to that?
Loki was also shown to be a good king. He didn't send Asgard into chaos and set the Nine Realms on fire like so many like to believe, nope, he kinda just left people be? Which is exactly what Odin did, so perfect mannerisms right there. Technically, he did more than Odin, bc in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Sif mentions how she was sent down by him to deal with threats, meaning that Loki was fully looking over Earth to ensure they were safe. His only crime in that regard was being isolationist
So if you really believe that Loki deserved all that he did in the series, watch Dark World. Watch Dark World, and I mean that, bc all you're doing is spouting exactly what the TVA wants you to believe, that Loki is a hedonistic asshole who should have everything bad happen to him ever. You do not understand Loki

Little ramble but maybe it’s just a me thing but I really don’t like it when an established character is made complicated and evil/mean in media and when retell said media, they woobify the character to make their actions more justified or else make other characters very vile (Despite being established as not) to justify their actions
Uh this happens alot with Loki. Like I get it, I do see him as a tragic character with a complicated motive HOWEVER I don’t like it when you guys purposely make the Æsir meaner to Loki to justify his actions
I’m not denying that the Æsir are massive assholes but defanging Loki’s actions just seems a bit excessive. Like, how are you gonna justify him cutting off Sif’s hair? Or stealing a cursed ring from a dwarf? OR JUST KILLING A MAN CUZ HE WAS JEALOUS like let Loki be vile and complicated. I think she has issues but her actions are not justified
This happens alot in Greek Myth too like Circe(the book) and I just think like… Can we let characters be evil, vile or even like make unjustifiable actions. Idk I think we should support women’s rights and wrongs.
This applies to any media in general honestly like if I can bring up an example in Helluva boss uh. I don’t like that Stella is made a 1 dimensional bitch wife to justify her getting cheated on with Stolas, and Stolas getting woobified so much that his actions of pet calling and demeaning a lower class imp was just ignored in favor of painting the imp IN THE WRONG for breaking his heart like okay man. It can get to a point where the character is no longer enjoyable and just really annoying to see on screen and it’s frustrating seeing actions be justified when there could’ve been an opportunity to explore complicated characters in complicated situations
This rambling and all I can end this with is; Remembering to never woobify my characters has drastically improved my writing overall

Tom Hiddleston clearly wants to smooch Owen Wilson, so Marvel should allow them to smooch.

Note
Tom Hiddleston once suggested Sif's actress Jaime Alexander could have played Loki instead of him.
Do you think your feelings about Thor 1 and 2 would change in any way if Loki were cast as a woman? (if the plot stays exactly the same or minor differences)
I feel like it absolutely would change my thoughts about Thor 1 and 2 but hear me out because the gender change in the context of what I understand of Asgardian society would mean Loki starts out as a younger sister thanklessly expected to mediate Thor’s violent tendencies and by the end of the movie she’s turned into what is basically Hela
