you trudged up the dirt path through the trailer park, the weight on your shoulders from the day hanging heavy as you made your way towards your trailer. the sun was high in the afternoon sky— and having just worked a ridiculously long shift at the local diner, you were just done with the day; even though it wasn’t over yet.

as you neared your trailer, you noticed the dixon brothers outside theirs, beers in hand as they chatted lazily. daryl was the first to notice you, his blue eyes immediately trained on your figure. he noticed how your shoulders were slumped, your face showed no emotion, and he could just tell you had a shit day. he had seen that look on you before. merle, oblivious as ever, was busy recounting some story from his time in lockup. but daryl nudged him with his foot, nodding his head towards your figure as you made your way into your trailer— praying your dad wasn’t home, because that would just add to the mountain of shit on your shoulders.

both daryl and merle stood up and made their way towards your trailer, letting themselves in. they knew your dad wasn’t home, because they had seen him leave earlier in his old pickup. where he had gone? they didn’t bother to ask, because why would they speak to a piece of shit like him. your head turned when you heard the door open, spotting the two dixon brothers, and the corner of your lips quirked ever so slightly. you enjoyed their company, but you didn’t really want to be around anyone right now.

“hey, sunshine, what’s eatin’ at ya?” merle was the first to speak— like always —his usual grin plastered across his lips. you didn’t respond, just shrugged your shoulders a little as you plopped onto the couch, head tilting back as you looked at the ceiling. the two brothers followed your lead, sitting down on either side of you, and you internally groaned. they wouldn’t give up until you told them what was wrong.

daryl looked to his brother for guidance, a pointed look on his face as his eyes flickered from merle, to you. “you think i know how to deal with shit like this?” he mouthed back to daryl, and the younger dixon rolled his eyes, directing his attention back to you. he didn’t know how to handle situations like this either. feelings weren’t his strong point.

sighing in annoyance, merle spoke up. “what’s the problem? yer face looks like ya lost a fight with a wasp next.” the analogy made your brows furrow as you looked at merle. he always said some odd shit that you never understood.

“just had a bad day, alright?” you muttered, crossing your arms across your chest as you stared forward, eyes trained on the blank screen of the television in front of you. merle rubbed the back of his neck, looking to daryl for backup this time.

daryl sighed softly, and tried a softer approach. “anything we can do to help?” his voice was quieter, less teasing than his older brother’s.

you shook your head, but the gesture was half-hearted. you didn’t want to burden them with your problems that seemed so large, yet so minuscule at the same time. “not unless you can fix the world in the next five minutes,” you scoffed a little, chewing on your bottom lip.

merle, always the smart ass, grinned widely. “well, darlin’, i ain’t no miracle worker but i could try.”

before you could retort, he disappeared from the living room of your trailer, straight out the door, leaving you and daryl in confused yet curious silence. he watched you figdet with your hands, sensing you were on edge— but he didn’t know how to fix it.

“you don’t gotta talk about it,” he said finally, his voice low, “but you don’t gotta deal with it alone either.”

you looked over at him, wondering when he had become so wise. but there was something earnest in his expression that made your heart soften— just a little. merle returned before you could say anything back though, a bottle of whiskey and a few cups in his hands. “aight, so maybe i can’t fix the world, but i sure as hell can make it go down a bit smoother.”

you watched as he messily poured the liquid into the cups, handing the first one to you as he gave you a wink. “it’s like medicine, but the fun kind.”

you couldn’t help the small smile on your lips, despite yourself. “you think whiskey is gonna solve my problems?” you asked, looking up at him with an amused look.

merle clinked his cup against yours, an eager grin on his lips. “no, but it’ll make ‘em real fuzzy for a bit, an’ sometines that’s all ya need.”

daryl rolled his eyes, but spoke up anyway. “he’s right, y’know? ‘bout makin’ thinks fuzzy.” and you wondered when both of those boys had become so wise in their odd little ways. maybe it was because they knew how to handle bad days without having to confront their issues. they just forgot, in a sense.

for the first time that day, the weight on your shoulders felt a little lighter. it wasn’t the whiskey or the dumb jokes merle kept making, and it wasn’t daryl’s quiet, steady presence at your side. it was all of it together— their clumsy, awkward attempts at cheering you up that actually worked. you took a long drink, feeling the burn of the alcohol chase away that lingering frustration.

“thanks,” you spoke, glancing at the two ot them. “i needed this.”

merle clapped you on the back, grinning like a fool. “that’s what we’re here for, sweetheart! doin the lord’s work, one drink at a time.”

daryl shook his head, but you saw the faintest hint of a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. he didn’t need to say anything more. just being there, sitting with you in the fading light, was enough.

hiiiii everybody! after suffering from a massive case of brainrot in other fandom, i've spent some time today kind of reworking how i'm approaching psych au and i think i might have a better idea of what i'm doing, which hopefully means the words will come back. so, since i'm starting from the beginning, here's a pre-henry, "alex starts his shenanigans journey and also a play on his love of lists" snippet. tags under the cut!

Which is how Alex finds himself in his current, deeply fraudulent, and quite possibly very illegal predicament: it started with calling in a tip regarding a chain of robberies - i.e. telling them who did it - after which subsequent events went as follows: 

being tricked into an interrogation by a very scary female detective with the last name Bankston about said tip; 

claiming to be a psychic insteading of admitting to being hyper observant, like a normal person would when trying to avoid county lockup;

pretending to have a psychic vision about three separate people in order to prove said psychic ability and avoid being detained;

and finally, those shenanigans paying off by way of Chief Luna’s request to bring him on as a consultant on a kidnapping case, but only because they’d exhausted every other avenue of investigation. 

Nora, when he recounts the morning’s events, is less than impressed, but it takes him a worryingly small amount of effort to convince her to tag along. Two days, a case closed, and another on the horizon, and he’s a little less certain about this being a good idea.

got smacked in the face yesterday by an almost fully-formed fic idea-- modern wyllstarion Baldur's Gate AU. Wyll is a longtime public defense attorney and Astarion is a semi-regular client over the years, but Wyll still knows very little about him. One day Wyll sees him again in lockup on what he thinks is another minor street-level thing, but it turns out to be big and ties into high-level conspiracies which involve magic/the hells/etc that most everyone thinks faded away a long time ago. Wyll has to protect Astarion within the legal system/against forces trying to use him, and eventually using the powers he pacted for as a teen but tried to never use. My current fic should be wrapping up in the next week or two so excited to get going on this-- I'm a public defender myself so I think I can bring some nice authenticity to it!

Old Man Gene Hunt headcanons (for a "Alex returns to 2008 post-series 2 and meets a 74 year old Gene" AU that I may or may not do something with one day):

(Under a cut because this got long and I might as well have just written a fic)

Generally very lonely. The charges against him were dropped, but Ray, Chris, Shaz, Viv, and the gang all never fully believed he didn't shoot her on purpose, and he never bothered making new friends or getting close to anyone else

Has a tiny ridiculous dog (a very fluffy pomeranian in my head) called Sundance who he insults constantly but secretly dotes on

Unofficially gained possession of all of Alex's belongings when she "died" in 1982, couldn't get the energy to sort through and get rid of them, so just took most of it with him whenever he moved and still just has most of it in boxes in his flat and his lockup in 2008

Also still has the quattro in his lockup, and looks after it and keeps it in good condition, but doesn't really drive it out anymore

Currently drives around in a really shit transit van that he bought as a "project" with the intention to fix it up and sell it on, because a concerned neighbour told him he needed a hobby, but he got bored halfway through so now it's half painted and just has a lot of odd pieces of wood and engine parts in the back. Also has a mattress in the back because he drives out to the muddle of nowhere and sleeps in it sometimes, when he's either avoiding people and doesn't want to be bothered at his flat, or is just avoiding being alone with his thoughts at his flat (he doesn't have an office to sleep in to achieve this anymore)

His hair is thinning but fairly long, because he can't often be bothered getting it cut

(He genuinely isn't doing very well mentally and hasn't been for a long time, but if ever anyone voices concern or suggests he get help, they receive a barrage of verbal and sometimes physical abuse, so most people have given up on him)

EXTREMELY Grumpy Old Man when it comes to modern technology. Owns a laptop and a mobile, but point blank refuses to learn how to text or use the internet until he meets Molly and she becomes determined to drag him kicking and screaming into the 21st century (she's the one person he won't just tell to piss off. He's actually surprisingly soft for her)

Also owns a gun, very illegally. Does a lot of very illegal things these days

Is actually still surprisingly very strong and fit, for a fat old man who drinks and smokes even worse than he did before. Has drunk himself into the hospital a few times but always bounces back

Shortly before retiring in the late 90s, saw younger Alex at some kind of police conference, recognised her instantly, realised Alex had been telling the truth, and became a little bit unhinged. Just kind of obsessed with her. Moved back to London (had been working in Birmingham at the time) just to be closer to her, and basically stalked her for the next ten years, telling himself he "just wanted to keep an eye on her" and "just wanted to make sure she was okay", but after that first conference never actually let her see him

Gets into a lot of fights with criminals who hurt or threaten Alex, and at one point in the early 00s beats up and hospitalises an abusive ex-boyfriend of Alex's, getting him to leave her alone. Alex never figures out what happened to the ex to make him suddenly stop bothering and threatening her

Is actually the one to find Alex and get help after she's shot. Was keeping an extra close eye on her because he knew it had to happen soon, and when Layton took her, he knew where to look, and just went to where he first saw her

Didn't intend for her to see him after she wakes up again, and when they do end up meeting by accident (he was called into the station to give a statement on something at the same time she happened to be in visiting her colleagues for the first time since leaving hospital), he pretended he didn't know her, because he thought Alex would be able to move in quicker and ultimately be happier if she thought it was all in her head

By the time he realised that this had actually made everything so much worse, and that she was rapidly deteriorating both mentally and physically and looked more and sick and miserable every time he saw her, he still didn't say anything to her, because he thought if he said anything now she'd be really really pissed off at him

Only finally decides to talk to her when things have escalated so far that Alex's boss and Evan have both become so concerned that they've decided to get Alex sectioned, and Gene, upon hearing this, immediately "rescues" (kidnaps) Alex, only explaining everything once they're already on the road, and the two of them go on the run together

(They're both severely mentally unwell broken people, but they've decided they're going to look after each other now, so it's okay <3)

(Alex knows she should be super pissed at him, but right now she's too relieved to worry about that)

Gene is honestly confused and bewildered that Alex wants to be with him not only in the sense of wanting to stay on this impromptu roadtrip with him, but also in the biblical sense, given that he's 39 years older than her now and not in great shape, and she's still gorgeous even considering she hasn't really been looking after herself, and at first tries to nobly resist her attempts to seduce him, but she's quite persistent and he gives in quite quickly

(Yes, they fuck in the van)

Molly is at first a little weirded out by how old and weird he is when she meets her mum's new boyfriend, but she gets on really well with him and soon loves him. She gets on better with him than she does Alex (she's struggling to adjust to how different and damaged her mum is now and frustrated by the fact people keep pretending everything's fine, and they argue a lot, but they're trying)

(She's in her troubled preteen era, unstandably. very angry at the world, keeps getting in fights and bunking off school and getting in trouble. she finds Gene a kindred spirit and a sympathetic ear when she needs to rant, because he understands that people trying to comfort her or get her to talk about her emotions is just going to make her angrier)

Gene and Alex eventually come home and move in together and reunite with the quattro (very touching, that's their baby), and Molly gradually moves in with them full time (whenever Evan or Molly's dad try to take her away, she just runs away back to Gene and Alex anyway, so they might as well let her)

Evan is fucking furious. He doesn't trust Gene at all and is convinced he's manipulating both Alex and Molly. Evan becomes practically apoplectic when Gene and Alex become engaged

Gene and Alex are still both very confused and exhausted by everything and both aren't 100% sure they're not just completely mad, but eventually come to the conclusion that it doesn't matter at the end if the day if any of this is really real, as long as it feels real and they get to face it together

So, I have this AU of which I kind of gave up on. Well, not really, it’s just artblock hitting hard.

So, it’s called Cannibal Eclipse AU or just LOCKUP AU. I’m still working on the lore so bear with me. So, basically, it’s just Eclipse turning into a cannibal sometime in August 2034. He killed Lunar, BM1, Dazzle and Earth and wounded both BM2 and Sun. Due to the fact that Eclipse was mostly aggressive and looking out to attack them at this time, Sun and Moon both agreed to made a shelter for themselves, soon after accompanied by BM2.

Because of witnessing his twin die right before his eyes, BM2 essentially fell into depression while working with the others. BM2 is in charge of weaponry in the base, Moon is mainly in charge of construction of the base, and Sun helps build. He’s also a medic for when the others get injured. They will occasionally take turns watching guard and going out to collect resources from their home or from the Pizzaplex (FNAF SB, which got burnt down by Eclipse in this au a bit before September 2034 this au).

Through these tough times, they stay cautious and tend to be more serious. BM2 learns to trust the others more over time, and Sun tries to attempt to get along with him as well alongside Moon. BM2, at the beginning of Eclipse’s spree (after his brother died), didn’t want to trust anyone, but he didn’t really have a choice because he had nowhere else to go or no one else to rely on. In addition, Eclipse is very much dangerous.

This whole AU in its entirety is confusing, along with the characters relationships as the story progresses and before the whole incident. Just some details- Eclipse burned down the Pizzaplex and Sun and Moon’s home. Most of the other characters are missing or just not there at all because of the difference in how the story progressed: there is no Nexus, Dark Sun, or Ruin (for now). The creator is missing for all they know and same goes for most of the other animatronics that (probably) did not die by Eclipse’s hands.

With you I'm home - I quoted 20 chapters for this because Buck's Baby was also 20 chapters but I am 100% playing this by air. In this fic, we see Buck and Eddie embarking on their first year of marriage. They have a 2 year old son (Aidan) and Christopher, who is 14. This fic will show them navigating parenting a boisterous toddler and a sassy teenager while they begin their journey to having a new baby.

Cat Fic!! - this has been sitting in my WIPs folder for months now and I haven't had the beans to write it recently! Buck has adopted a cat with a curious name that brings a whole load of feelings to the forefront of his brain (is he saying I love you to the wrong Eddie?) and also provides some excellent material to fuck with his friends.

GTA AU - Listen I know this sounds weird, BUT, Buck and Eddie are heads of rival motorcycle gangs and constantly engage in turf wars. They realise they have the same product dealer for their cocaine lockups, who has been selling them dodgy product, resulting in loss of revenue for both men. They come together to confront the man realise they work extremely well together and who knows, maybe rival MC gang members can fall in love!

Piano Teacher!Buck, Parent!Eddie and Student!Chris - this was inspired by my Musician AU Play me like a fiddle, and was vaguely encouraged on Ao3 by @theotherbuckley, and will be a oneshot of Eddie coming to Buck after being referred to him by Christopher's physical therapy. Buck is more than happy to take Christopher on as a student is fast delighted by his constant, bubbly optimism. Eddie watches as Buck teaches his son and watches Christopher's confidence in himself build and realises, fuck, he's slowly falling in love with his son's teacher.

His Dark Materials AU - Buck finds himself in possession of an alethiometer and the more questions he asks of it, trying to figure out it's true meaning, the more he finds himself being drawn towards a dark, mysterious man he's noticed hanging around the college lately. Buck's daemon is instantly drawn to Eddie's daemon and the two find themselves unlikely friends, embarking on a quest to discover what it is the alethiometer is trying to warn them about.

Single Parents AU - Buck is the single father of two daughters and has just joined the 118 and is struggling to find his place. He meets another single father at his daughter's school in the pick up line one day and Eddie reveals he's training at the LAFD but struggling with childcare while he does it. Buck suggests they combine childcare and offers to help Eddie train, and even gets him a position in the 118 when Eddie graduates. How long will they coparent their three kids before they realise they've got it bad for each other?

Misc. ideas that haven't quite developed into fics yet but exist!

Magic Au - Buck and Eddie both have the power to control their auras (which have a colour and scent specific only to them) and go through rigorous training to enable them to save the earth from the Elder Race threatening to take over (inspired by Michael Scott's Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel)

Detectives AU - I've been watching too many Scandinavian crime shows and want to write Buddie solving a grisly murder

Au be Izuku having a version of AFO, but AFO isn't his biological father?

When Izuku gets his quirk its pandemonium at the kindergarten. One of the workers was yelling at a child and using their quirk to intimidate them and Izuku jumps in-between them. The worker accidentally hits Izuku with their claw quirk, cutting his face. Izuku cries, curling his little hands into fists, now adorned with viscous looking claws.

The worker is screaming that "He stole it! He stole it!" Izuku is crying and bleeding, the little kid that was threatened is crying and thanking him, Katsuki is screaming and blowing things up because some old hag hurt Deku - its total chaos.

Someone next door ends up calling the cops who, unsurprisingly, make everything worse. The worker is screaming and calling Izuku a villain, Izuku is too stressed to give the quirk back and is covered in blood, surrounded by other crying children. They don't check to see that its his blood, or that the children are crying because they are worried about him. They grab him, shove him into quirk disruptor cuffs and take him off to the station for someone else to deal with.

When Nighteye comes into the Musutafu police station to drop off some paperwork, hes horrified to see the toddler covered in blood in the police lockup. He asks if that's possibly a villain with a shapeshifting quirk? Nope. That's an actual toddler who had a rough quirk activation holy shit hes going to kill someone. At this stage he is not enough in on the All for One secret to be as scared of the man as he should be, but when he wipes the blood from the kid's face, he does pocket the handkerchief. No harm in running a DNA test.

Izuku gets returned to his house by Nighteye who has no idea how to deal with a child, but thankfully little Izuku is such a hero nerd that being carried by All Might's sidekick is enough to stop him from crying. Inko asks if maybe Izuku should go return the quirk? And Nighteye says 'the person Izuku too the quirk from is the one who cut your sons face." and Inko looks like wrath made manifest and quiet growls "He can die quirkless, then."

Features All Might finding out about the mini AFO and getting told off by Nighteye because Izuku is a sweetheart (nothing to do with the fact he recognised Nighteye on sight and managed a teary smile at him. nothing at all. no bias here).

The DNA test comes back totally negative for a relation with All for One, but funnily enough a distant relation to All Might? Yeah, turns out Inko is Nana's daughter and OFA makes its wielders show up as distant relations. All Might is gonna be the best uncle for Izuku he swears to god.

Nighteye will fight him for that position. Inko is just happy to have free childcare.

"Yeah, yeah." Mack muttered, hastily taking another inhale of his cigarette before dropping it to the pavement, killing it with the heel of his shoe. It was a shit assignment, that was all he could think as he took his his time exhaling the smoke, making his way to the back of the delivery truck, managing to sidestep the crate Falcone practically threw at him.

"Fuck off." He muttered, stooping down and lifting the crate, carrying it into the kitchens.

It didn't help that he owed one to Johnny, the bastard helping him out of his latest collection date with odd jobs here and there, all of them for Cohen, none of them legal, but at least his parole officer hadn't been around, so it made it easier to hide, to lie.

He'd worked odd jobs in kitchens before, usually as a dishwasher, rarer times as prep when there were too many callouts, though that wasn't why he was here; he was mostly here to translate, to make sure Falcone and Brasi didn't fuck things up reading the directions; Johnny knew he could read French.

The owner was there, in the kitchens. "A fine piece of ass." Johnny'd said once but if Johnny had an opinion on any woman, it meant she was either an idiot like his broad Turner or she was some poor unfortunate broad caught in the crossfires.

Placing the box labelled with another assortment of vegetables down by the others, Mack meandered, loitered, trying to take his time heading back to the delivery truck; that was the first time he'd seen the menu, or what he had to assume was the menu. Various recipes, notes were scattered along the work stations.

"Since when are there three kinds of mushrooms in a coq au vin?"

He pronounced the anglicized version of the dish, almost determined not to speak his first language at all or let on how much he knew. He'd gotten his ass beat a week into lockup when his cellmate worked the detail out of him. Mack never particularly thought his accent was anything to write home about, but apparently to the guys on the inside, it was too effeminate.

how did gaffen + zelda feel about the lockup vs the castle town prison? also . im slightly afraid to ask this but how does gaffen feel about his hometown/raurus settlement post or pre cal?

get ready for an insane amount of shit I just made up with no canon basis just because I like my hyrule kingdom clearly morally ambiguous if not outright just bad in true oot/ww/tp fashion because as stated I think I should be allowed to hit fujibayashi with hammers

ok so first of all. for reference. the scale of shit in gboh is bigger than it is in the actual game. to account for how much time it takes in game-time to get around the map Etc and also because I think it should be bigger. this goes double for castle town it is larger and the lockup is larger. castle's probably the same size though

so fun fact gaffen has actually been present at a few executions :) the lockup is not commonly used pre-calamity, at least not as much as the time it was built. mostly it's a place where the royal guard hangs out when they're off-duty/occasionally will trap monsters. recently though they have been keeping a few prisoners down there. yeah remember how i was talking about the neo-yiga. uh. basically theres two yiga clans in my au. anyone they suspect of working with them ends up down there. some of them have been found innocent posthumously but its fine lol. better safe than sorry !

castle town prison he hasn't really been to its never been something he's ever been assigned to as its more for. Not Royal Guards. but again it hasn't stayed very full recently due to the high demand for cheap labor excavating. things. stuff. yeah its not all sheikah they have prisoners do it occasionally. another one of king rhoam's excellent and pragmatic decisions ! //stares at the camera. gaffen being the freak that he is thinks this is incredible and amazing and great

uhh well. zelda knows about all this but honestly? to her it's all fine. mostly. she demanded a posthumous pardon for multiple people, but she's completely fine with unpaid prison labor. thats great i mean who wants to rot in a cell when you can die in a rockslide

as for rauru settlement? gaffen isn't even aware it was his old home at the moment. zelda probably ends up telling him as it's one of the few pieces of personal information she managed to wring out of him before he died. doesn't know his birthday though. post calamity gaffen is birthdayless and just celebrates his resurrection date. but honestly i think he's just in shock when he hears it. hylia held information about his past over his head for years and would get pissed if he asked for more so zelda giving it so willingly would definitely make him trust her. but i think they go there together and she tries to tell him what she knows. he sort of mourns over it silently. sits in the abandoned houses drops a rock down the well for fun wonders if he used to do that. they might end up meeting his great great grand-nephew there 👍

uhh pre calamity he used to think of it fondly but then just kind of. doesn't have an opinion of it anymore. can't really be bothered to have one. he can't really relate to his old friends after a certain point
