I'm so proud of myself about finances in the past couple months. I still struggle with money but I did enough meditation and journaling and practicing about it to make myself able to actually face my loans and credit cards and savings and bills and start really truly organizing and addressing them for the first time in years instead of just flying by the seat of my pants.
Like. This is a huge deal for me. I've felt like I'm in deadly danger every time I've tried to think about money for years and years. I'm finally able to look it in the face and stare it down and start to organize and plan on purpose instead of just keeping up with the minimum to stay afloat. I'm so proud of myself.
It's still a refrain of "GUILT (funny link)" every time I think about money but I'm able to actually make spreadsheets and face the numbers and monthly tracking again, and even make a new full budget which I haven't been able to do in ages.
still feel guilt, overwhelm, and helplessness, but no longer feel as much deep elemental shame and terror. that's progress baby
#we don't need to talk about how many months and months of therapy visits and doctor appointments I put on credit cards#among other things#but I had to put my foot down about it a couple months ago and shout at myself a little saying HEY#I AM SHAKING YOU BY THE SHOULDERS I AM SHOUTING FOR YOU TO HEAR#OF COURSE IT WAS A TERRIBLE FINANCIAL DECISION BUT YOU WEREN'T EVEN EXPECTING TO BE ALIVE#THE CREDIT CARD DEBT WAS NECESSARY TO KEEP YOU ALIVE AND IT DID AND EVERYTHING ELSE IS WAY LESS IMPORTANT THAN THAT#why the FUCK are you feeling SO ASHAMED for making the best decision you knew how to make at the time???#just because you know NOW that you could have tried some other options doesn't mean you did THEN#you may have known enough to feel shame and guilt yes but you would never in a million years have gotten the help you needed fast enough#by attempting to go another route#you didn't trust anyone besides a very few handfuls of people and even them it wasn't fully#and the stress of running it through parental insurance was so terrifying to you bc you didn't know what that would do#and you never had cosigners for anything your whole adult life. it's OKAY#you fucking DID YOUR BEST#YOU HAVE LEARNED. YOU HAVE MADE CHANGES. YOU HAVE ALREADY DONE BETTER#YOU WILL CONTINUE TO LEARN AND IMPROVE OVER TIME#it is not the end of the world. even the utilities sending you to debt collections etc etc#YOU ARE FIGURING IT OUT ONE PIECE AT A TIME#MORE PEOPLE ARE ASHAMED AND AFRAID OF THEIR OWN FINANCES THAN YOU THINK#if the people who fought and argued with and shamed you for considering student loans much less taking them out#had wanted you to actually be financially safer and healthier#they could have just fucking helped out or cosigned your loans or actively helped you find other solutions#instead of spending months and months telling you it was the worst decision ever and would ruin you financially for decades and such#you made the best decisions you could with the level of terror and knowledge that you had. it was enough to keep you alive.#isn't that enough?#isn't it a victory to survive?? isn't that enough??????#god i'm cringing at sharing this but if it's been this hard for me surely at LEAST one of you has also made financial mistakes or regrets#and seeing me be honest that I fucked it all up too and it's a mess and I'm just climbing back through it as best as I can as I go#will hopefully make at least one of you feel a tiny bit less alone

I’m really frustrated my card got locked on Friday - I’ve been going through donating $5 to roughly 12-14 campaigns for weeks now but this week it gets flagged as potential fraud? Not only that the company is closed on the weekends so I have to wait until Monday to unlock my card (if I was still living alone and had to buy my own groceries/pay for gas I would be in trouble).

Looking back I think one of the biggest things that got me through uni was that Canvas had calendars that showed when assignments were due and actually let me plan out what tf I was going to do without feeling overwhelmed.
Well... that and being a tutor/TA/lab assistant letting me work on homework during my shifts. Those two things really pushed uni from being agonizing to doable.

Why do white parents try to charge their kids rent while simultaneously drop 3/4 of a mill on a new beach house. I don’t ask for any financial help ever, I never bother them, I literally live in my 9x9 cave (room) and work 40 hours a week like a normal person to save up for rent to move out.

Loan For Credit Cards
Credit Cards Facility
The majority of banks in Dubai give the best credit card deals, luring the average person and encouraging them to take full advantage of the facility in order to elevate their standard of living. In the modern world, credit cards are one of the most widely utilized banking instruments, being used by people from all social classes. Dubai residents benefit from credit cards in the following ways:
You don't need to bring a lot of cash with you when you go shopping. Without having to worry about carrying around an amount of risky cash, you can make any purchase of your choosing. The only restriction on how much you can spend with your credit card is the credit limit that has been set.
Your ability to pay your credit card debt over a period of time is advantageous and allows you some breathing room. You can make any offline or online transaction with a credit card without having any money in your bank account. When paying your bill, you merely need to have money in your account.
Your bank, which offers the credit card, reimburses you for the purchases you make using it, giving you access to a short-term, perhaps 50 days or so, interest-free loan.
These credit cards frequently include a variety of benefits, so the more you use your card, the greater the rewards you receive.
You cannot deny that the credit option is useful in crises, even if you don't like to utilize it.
In the event of unfavorable circumstances, credit shield insurance partially covers both your personal expenses and your unpaid credit card balances.
In Dubai, credit card offers are quite alluring and entice many potential customers to sign up for cards. The majority of banks provide exclusive offers, discounts, opportunities for cash back, and loyalty points. Discounts on food, entertainment, and movie tickets are just a few of the benefits and privileges available.

Effortless application process

Eligibility requirements for credit cards
Eligibility requirements for credit cardsAlthough different banks and credit card businesses provide various types of credit cards, the fundamental rule is that your credit limit is fixed based on your salary. According to the most recent Dubai Central Bank circular, only those with a minimum yearly salary of AED 60,000 are qualified for a credit card. To apply for one, you also require the following paperwork:
National Identification
Most recent account statement from your bank
Salary certificate
The most recent utility bill
In certain circumstances, the bank could request more paperwork. The bank will quickly accept your credit card if it is determined that you have a steady source of income and no unpaid balances from prior loans. Your credit card's interest rate may change based on the issuer. Some banks offer credit cards with no annual cost for the first year, and if the minimum annual card usage is not met after that, a minimum annual fee is charged. Some other companies only provide this option for premium cards. The annual charge typically varies based on the banks. It is always advisable to compare credit cards in Dubai and select the one that best meets your needs.
How to properly utilize your credit card
Know the amount you can spend with your card, and stick to it.
Online credit card transaction tracking
When you receive your monthly credit card statement, check the individual transactions by keeping your receipts. Any irregularities you find should be reported to the company. Check your current credit card statement every week, every two weeks, or soon after you make a sizable transaction if your credit card is linked to your online banking account.
You can save a sizable sum of money by paying off your credit card balance in full on the due date rather than paying the bank excessive interest rates.
Your credit card's late payments and non-payments would notably hurt your credibility.
When you start paying excessive rates of interest (20 to 45%) on the total bill amount, you will fall into a financial trap and should never choose the "minimum payment due" option unless absolutely essential.
Utilize the bank's SMS and email alerts to stay informed about your card transactions. Once you sign up for them, you even get SMS or email reminders for due dates.
When someone calls or emails you requesting your credit card number, be on the lookout and wary. Since the banks that provide your credit cards won't ask you for this information, you shouldn't trust anyone with it.
When you stick to these guidelines strictly, you will be able to get the rewards of using credit.
Credit Cards in Dubai
In Dubai, a credit card comes in quite handy, especially if you want to buy until you drop but don't have any cash on hand. The biggest benefit of using a credit card is the reasonable amount of time you have before making a payment. In addition, if you do not pay your credit card account on time, you will be penalized with interest that may be as high as 36% on the whole amount of credit. The advantages of owning a credit card in Dubai are, however, unquestionably greater once you understand how to manage your regular bill payments. In Dubai, the following fees are applicable to all credit card types:
Joining charge
Fee for cash withdrawal
Overage charge
Charge for late payment

A quick update before I collapse bc I'm very very tired:
We are currently at $29.4K gross for the month, so about halfway to the goal we set that will get our noses above water going forward. For the 18th of the month, that's pretty good!
We've extended the Bottoms & Tops sale through the end of the month bc y'all are making great use of it. Buy 2 items from the Tops and Bottoms collection & get a 3rd 69% off with code TOP2BOTTOM!
We just finished paying off the loan we took out to cover payroll in January & pick up stock for Pride events this year. Next up: smacking the credit card balances and stuffing a few dollars into savings.
And at the end of the month, nothing would make us happier than to write out a comically large check to @queerliblib. If you wanna do that & get your queer swag from a trans-owned company, well.
You're in the right place.
Oh, hey, did we show y'all Spider's new favorite shirt he made for himself?

The Truth About Trumponomics
Trump and Republicans want to wreck your bank account. Here are 5 things you need to know about Trumponomics.
1.Trump wants tax cuts for the rich, at your expense.
Trump’s tax cuts for the rich and big corporations added about $1.7 trillion to the national debt, with few benefits trickling down to the middle class — in fact, it raised taxes for more than 10 million American families.
Now Trump and Republicans want to make the tax cuts for the rich permanent, blowing up the debt even further. And then they’ll use that debt to justify this:
2. Trump would cut Social Security and Medicare — programs you’ve been paying into!
In every year of his presidency, Trump submitted a budget that tried to cut Social Security and Medicare. And he knows that’s the only way he can even begin to pay for extending his tax cuts for the rich.
3. Trump and his allies are pro-junk fee.
When the Biden administration issued a rule capping credit card late fees at $8, Sen. Tim Scott, a Trump surrogate, tried to overturn it in the Senate. And then a Trump-appointed judge issued a temporary injunction that blocked the rule from taking effect. Eliminating that rule would cost American families an estimated $10 billion a year.
And when the Biden administration required airlines to issue automatic refunds for canceled flights, Trump’s allies in Congress fought to block that too.
When Trump was in office, his administration fought against efforts to rein in airline junk fees.
Corporations nickel and diming us like this makes inflation worse. If Trump gets back in the White House, buckle up for more junk fees.
4. Trump would send health care costs soaring.
Republicans have committed to repealing the Inflation Reduction Act, which would strip Medicare of the ability to negotiate drug prices, and let Big Pharma send the price of insulin and other life-saving medicines back through the roof.
And Trump is still fixated on repealing Obamacare, with no plan to replace it.
TRUMP: Obamacare is a disaster. We’re gonna do something about it.
That would strip coverage from tens of millions of Americans, drive up premiums, and let insurers charge more or deny coverage to people with preexisting conditions.
5, If you’ve got student debt, you’re out of luck with Trump.
In contrast to President Biden, who’s canceled more than $160 billion of student debt so far, Trump is against student debt relief. In his first term, he tried to eliminate the popular Public Service Loan Forgiveness program for people like teachers and nurses, and he’s called the idea of debt relief “unfair.”
What’s unfair, is how student debt hurts not just the roughly 40 million Americans burdened by it, but the entire economy, since Americans with debt have less money to spend, are less likely to start a business, less likely to buy a home, and more likely to rely on government assistance.
The MAGA agenda would make nearly every aspect of your life more expensive, while making the richest Americans even richer.
Teddy Roosevelt’s economic plan was called the Square Deal. Franklin Roosevelt’s was the New Deal.
What Trump is offering is simply a Raw Deal.

strangerprompts: turn back time |eddie munson x reader|
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
prompt: #8 you step into a hole-in-the-wall bar for a drink and suddenly find yourself in a different decade.
from strangerprompts writing challenge made by @bettyfrommars @allthingsjoeq and @somnambulic-thing <3 this was so fun!!! please check it out and consider writing for yourself!
warnings: language. time travel. but nothing crazy.
“It should be illegal.” You huff, nails digging into the leather of your steering wheel. The GPS shouted at you another robotic turn, drumming out the sound of your roommate on the other line.
“I mean, seriously? Making me travel alone to- to the middle of nowhere. Ro, I’m not even kidding, it looks like the town Deliverance was filmed in. It’s the middle of nowhere.” You scoff, looking at the rundown building passing by you, all crumbling with desperate need of a renovation.
“No, it can’t be Deliverance. They didn’t have hotels there.” Roslyn snicker floated through your car’s speakers. “C’mon, it’s not that bad.”
“It is.” You grumbled. “And then they want us to meet at this bar for mingling. I don’t even know if I’m going to the right place!” You threw your hands up, smacking them on the steering wheel dramatically, turning it as the GPS announced you’d arrived.
The Hideout- or at least, that’s what you could make out from the peeling sign above the building. “Jesus Christ, I’m getting murdered.” You muttered, sending Ro howling in laughter. “I’m not even joking. I’m about to be a topic on a fucking podcast.”
“Stop.” Roslyn wheezed through laughter. “You’re not gonna get murdered.”
“I don’t- This place doesn’t even look open.” You exhaled sharply, flicking through your phone, ensuring this was the right place. “Ro, you have to swear to me if I get murdered, you’ll make sure the true crime freaks won’t make Etsy merch about me.”
“Calm down,” Ro laughed. “You’re not gonna get murdered. It’s just not the hipster ass bars you’re used to.”
“No,” You muttered, locking your door quickly, clutching your purse to your side. “I really might. Stay on the phone with me.”
“What?” Roslyn’s voice broke through the static. “I can’t- You’re cutting ou-”
“Fuck.” You hissed, looking down at your phone as you climbed the stairs. Call Failed flashing back at you, no bars to be found.
Turn around, get back in your car, and say fuck it. You do not need this job this bad.
Yes, you actually do.
A painful reminder of your maxed credit card, student loans, and rent flashed before your eyes, silencing your bitter thoughts. Sliding your phone into your purse, you clung to the strap tightly.
“Just stay fifteen minutes, then say you feel sick.” You muttered to yourself, reaching for the rusted handle.
The entryway was dark, eerily quiet to be a bar. You almost thought it wasn’t one, if it wasn’t for the bright neon sign shining at the end. Welcome! Glowing in blinding red letters, underneath it in blue, the piercing glow that read: Stay A While.
“So weird.” You muttered, your arms wrapping around yourself.
The air turned colder with every step you took, following the bright signs- the only source of light, down the dark hallway. Your heart hammered in your ears, clutching your purse close to you. Just as you were about to panic, chest swelling with fear, veins icy as the air- you heard it.
A muffled roar of an electric guitar, a tiny sliver of golden light peering beneath the heavy door. You pushed the door open, met with a sudden wave of warmth, the dim lights of the bar blinding you still.
“Watch it, sweetheart.” A man with a tray of beers muttered, swiveling past you.
“Sorry,” You squeaked, looking around the crowded dive bar. You scanned the packed tables for anyone from the conference, shimmying in between tables, peering over teased hair for anyone.
“Fuck me,” You huffed, settling at a sticky bar booth, still littered with half drank beers and peanuts- the only one available. “No way I’m the first one.”
You plopped your purse on to the seat of the booth, an iron grip still on the strap. You could feel the cutting glances still cast on you from the others, they’d had followed you from the moment you walked in. Judgemental, all accompanied with a lifted brow.
Should look in the mirror, You thought bitterly, rummaging through your purse. They’re the ones wearing that outdated, ugly shit.
“Where the fuck- I know I put it in here.” You muttered, taking out the wrappers, your wallet, desperately trying to find your phone.
“‘Scuse me,” You jumped, eyes wide when you looked up, clutching your purse to your chest.
Dark eyes met yours, a dimpled smile joining them. “Sorry,” The man lifted his hand carefully, the other balancing a black bucket stacked with glasses. “Didn’t mean to scare you. Just wanted to see if it was ok if I clear this outta the way for you?”
“Y-Yeah, sorry.” You muttered bashfully. “Yes, that would be great. Thank you.”
A ringed hand passed in front of you, the light catching in the skull before it grabbed a glass. You moved back to your purse, furiously checking each pocket, chest growing tighter and tighter with fear.
“You alright?” The busboy asked, swiping another glass, stacking it into the bucket with a soft rattling clank.
“Yeah- I mean, not really.” You turned, head craning towards the door. “I think I lost my phone in that hallway.”
“Hallway?” He laughed, his name tag flashing towards you- Eddie, decorated with sharpie drawn bats and devil horns. “Phone’s on the wall over there.” Eddie nodded towards the bar, an old dial up phone mounted there, a sign that the charge is a quarter above it.
Your brows creased. You didn’t even know those things worked, you always assumed they were decoration for the… edgy aesthetic of the place.
“No, I mean my cell phone.” You shook your head lightly. “I think I dropped it in that hallway back there.” You pointed towards the swinging door.
Eddie frowned at you, stilling as his eyes scanned your features. “Are you- Are you feeling ok?” He asked.
“What?” You snapped defensively.
“Did someone slip something in your drink or something?” Eddie asked carefully. “Gotta be careful with those old guys. They look harmless but they’re gnarly-”
“-What? No.” You shook your head, pinching the bridge of your nose. “I-I haven’t even had a drink. I just got here. I’m supposed to meet some people from a conference, but I can’t find my phone-”
“-Your phone?” Eddie’s nose crinkled in confusion.
“Yes. My phone.” You barked in irritation. “My cell phone?”
Eddie blinked at you. “What is that European?” He shrugged.
“What? Are you fucking with me-”
“-No,” Eddie held his hands up. “No, I just- I don’t know what you’re talkin’ about.” He laughed nervously. “And I mean you’re dressed… different. Not that it’s bad!” He added frantically.
“I just assumed you were European or something. Not from here anyways.” Eddie muttered, leaning against the table.
You blinked. It felt like you were in a dream, like everything you were saying was mute, confusing, in Wonderland and entirely discombobulated.
“You… You don’t have cell phones here?” You asked slowly.
Eddie shook his head, curls bouncing. “Nope. Not here, sweetheart. Hasn’t made its way to Hawkins, Indiana yet, but sounds pretty-”
“-What?” You hissed, chest booming with a fear filled ache, sure your heart had stopped entirely. “What did you just say?”
Eddie’s face fell, his flirtatious grin disappearing. “Hawkins? Indiana?” He said slowly, eyes narrowing when your face paled. “Hey, are you ok? Did you take something?”
“N-No, I-I don’t- I d-didn’t-”
“-Look,” Eddie slid into the booth beside you. “You’re not gonna scare me off if you did somethin’, alright? I’m not nearly as conservative as these other bogus losers.”
You couldn’t speak, mouth dry, heart caught in your throat, hammering away so fiercely your ears were ringing. “What’d you take? Blow? K? Pills or somethin’?” His arm brushed yours, head ducking towards you. “It’s fine, whatever it is, I’m- I’m really good with dealing with this sorta thing, if you can believe it.”
“I-I didn’t take anything.” You droned, nearly automated. “I just- I-I was walking down the hallway, and-”
“-Hey, I’m just trying to help you.” Eddie said softly, his tone pulling your attention back to meet his gaze. “Did you hit your head?”
“N-No, I- The hallway-”
“-That,” Eddie pointed towards the swinging door. “Is a bathroom.” You watched as the door swung open, as if on cue, a girl with blue painted lids and crimped hair piled high stepping out.
“The closest thing to a hallway here is to the dumpster out back.” Eddie grinned at you softly. It was sweet, but you couldn’t bring yourself to smile back, body trembling with fear.
Eddie felt it, frowning at you softly. “Do you need me to call an ambulance? Call someone for you?”
“No,” You swallowed hard. “I-I need to leave. I have-I gotta get out of here.” Panic rose through your chest, trying to push him out of the booth, climb over him, anything.
“Hey, easy,” Eddie slid out of your way. “Hang on-” You ignored him, pushing past him towards the door.
Outside, the sun was still just beginning to set, that was the only thing that was the same.
Your car was gone, in its place a line of cars- old cars, but still shiny? Still new, not rusted with wear or dulled colors from age. The buildings were no longer crumbling, signs still new and displayed proudly.
“No, no, no, no.” Your chest heaved, fingers threading through your hair. “What the fuck? What the fuck? What the fuck is going on?”
“Hey!” Eddie grabbed your shoulder, pulling your attention towards him. “Hey, I-I don’t think you should be driving-”
“-My car.” You gasped. “Where the fuck is my car? I-It was right here,” You turned, throwing your hands out. “Right here!”
Eddie looked around, a blush rising to his cheeks at the judgy looks the passersby were giving. “Maybe you should come back inside-”
“-No.” You barked, shaking your head furiously. “No. I-I’m not-” Through the window, a glimmer of a photo caught your eye.
Your walk back inside felt nearly trance like, everything underwater, Eddie’s voice droning out with the others. A painting of two cartoonized children waving fistfuls of flowers gleefully- though that wasn’t what caught your attention. It was the printed lettering underneath it that made your blood run cold.
“Hey, why don’t you take a seat, an-and I’ll call someone-”
“-Is this,” You swallowed, pointing at the wall. “This isn’t right, r-right? Thi-This isn’t- There’s no way.”
Eddie frowned, looking at the wall. “I mean, yeah, it needs to be changed now. I guess it’s technically May now, Mick just hasn’t gotten around to flipping it-”
“-No, this-this says…” Your finger traced the numbers, glaring at you in bright red. “1986?” You squeaked.
Eddie blinked at you. “Yeah,” He nodded slowly.
Your vision filled with dark splotches, fading in and out of focus on the calendar in front of you. Your knees buckled, purse slipping between your fingers before you fell limply, Eddie’s frantic voice ringing in your ears the last thing you heard before your consciousness slipped.

Summer Breeze 12
Tumblr media
Warnings: age gap (reader is 22, Andrew is mid 40s), dad’s friend, Andy being Andrew, other dark elements. As usual, be mindful of your content consumption.
I also beg of you to leave me some tuppence in the form of a comment and/or reblog. You are cherished!
Enjoy, my loverlies.
Tumblr media
You wake up shivering. The AC blasts over your bare legs and speckles across your skin. You roll over as your skull rattles. Your left eye twitches as you sit up and hug the pillow against your middle for warmth.
For a second, you’re at your dad’s house; the next you’re in the cabin; and at last, you come back to the present.
Andy’s voice rolls in a low timbre but you can’t make out his words. His tone is dire and has you stumbling to your feet. Something’s wrong. Your dad!
You follow it to the kitchen and find him with his hand to his ear. He’s on the phone with someone. Your phone. You blink as you stare at your pearl case. He nods in recognition and wraps up the call. He comes around the square island and offers you the cell.
“It kept going off.” He explains.
“Was it the hospital? Is dad okay?” You nearly snatch it away.
“No, no. I called earlier. He’s going through some tests and exercises.” He crosses his arms and leans on the counter. “That was the insurance company.”
“Insurance?” You cringe and lower your hand to your side. You squeeze the phone tight.
“I know, shouldn’t have touched it but you were out and I was concerned. You got enough on your plate.”
“What-- what did they say? Why did they call?” You demand.
Did they change their mind? What there something else you can do? Andy purses his lips and rubs along the angle of his jaw, his other hand still folded over his chest.
“Claim denied. You’ll have to deal directly with the hospital for payment.” He exhales and frowns. “Those kinda bills are never easy. I know it well. A lot to deal with on top of everything else.”
“Yeah, I... I spoke with them before but... I haven’t had time to figure out—I could get a credit card? Or a loan? Maybe. I don’t have anything on my credit so...” You shrug and shake your head. “It’s not your problem.”
“But I can help.”
You flinch at his offer. You scoff and wave the phone at him. “No, no. You’ve done so much. More than enough. I couldn’t... couldn’t ask that. No. No.” You’re arguing with yourself as much as him. “I can do this. I’m an adult and it’s my responsibility. I’ll... I’ll drop out. Dad has my tuition in savings. I’ll have to look over his accounts and--”
“What about the nurse? The physio? The counseling?” Andy asks.
You freeze and stare at him. You shiver again but not because you’re cold. You grimace and move your lips wordlessly.
“This isn’t just a hospital stay, sweetheart. This is going to be a long recovery. It could even be the rest of his life.”
His grim tone sinks into your stomach and you feel sick. You press a hand to your cheek and nod. You roll your eyes up in an effort to bid back the tears.
“I know. I’ll... I’ll figure it out. I will. I can... I have to.” You turn way to hide your mounting distress.
You don’t think you can do all of this. You didn’t think about tomorrow or the next day or next month or next year. What do you do when the savings run out? You don’t even know how much your dad has?
“You don’t have to do it alone. I could--”
“Why would you help?” You spin to face him. “I’m young and scared but I’m not naive. No one just helps someone like that. Someone they barely know. Even my mom--” You choke back a sob and steady yourself.
“Your dad’s my friend.”
“Yeah, for what? A couple of years?” You put the heel of your hand and the butt of your phone to your temples.
“You’re a nice girl. I wanna help.”
“Why?” You ask.
“Because you shouldn’t have to do this alone.”
“No, why did you answer the phone?” Tendrils creep up your back and wrap around your neck. You drop your arms. “Why... why did you rent this house? Why are you doing all of this?”
“You need it--”
“Answer my question. I can’t-- I can’t handle anything else.” You snap. “I’ve been so distracted, so swept up in it all that I didn’t stop to think why a fifty-year old man is doing all of this?”
He’s quiet as your heart thumps and you look him in the face. He stares back and a line forms in his forehead as his cheek dimples. The silver at his temples is more obvious and the speckle in his beard as well. This man is your father’s age. He might be a neighbour and a friend but your dad isn’t exactly the nicest guy.
“I do want to help.” He speaks at last. The lilt in his voice says it all. All your suspicions coil tightly in your chest. “I could help. I could take care of you and your dad. I would--”
“Jesus. Are you serious?” You warble through the swell in your throat. “It’s... no, no, not that. How—you could be my father?! Your son--”
“I’m not your father.” He insists tersely. “And I’m not too old.”
“Oh god!” You hit your head in frustration. “I’m so stupid. I’m so goddamn stupid. How could I—but why would I ever--” You rant wildly as you pace around frantically. You spin and face the walls and examine every inch. “I-- I’m already fucked. I’m--”
Your legs shake and you wobble around. You stagger into the door frame and cling to it. You heave, a sharp whistle rising from your throat with each crushing breath. Your tears roll down your cheeks and you slide down to your knees. You claw at your neck as the air snags in your throat.
“Sweetheart,” Andy nears and kneels. He touches your back and you flinch. “You gotta breathe. You’re having a panic attack.”
“Y-yeah. I—ammmmm.” You squeak as your vision swims and you grip the door frame tightly.
“It’s okay.” He coaxes and rubs between your shoulders.
“No-”
“I’m not asking for much--”
Your head pulses and you sit back on your heels. Your look at him in a flume of rage and horror. You slap his shoulder. Once, twice, again. Then you shove him away from you. You sob and fall forward onto your hands and shake in a storm of grief.
This can’t be real. You just need your dad. You need him to hug you and tell you it’s going to be okay.

Alright: here's my official cry for help. You can see the latest updates in my pinned, but here's a shorter post for sharing purposes specifically
If you haven't been following, early on Wednesday morning I awoke to my youngest cat Bojji gagging and choking down a plastic ribbon that had already begun its journey into his intestines. The ER vets managed to safely surgically extract it from his small intestines, where it had already began bunching things up in the exact way these things risk doing. all seemed like it would be well, and that he might even be released the next afternoon.
the next morning, however, testing of a fluid that formed around his lungs overnight proved it to be laden with bacteria-containing cells that presumably entered the chest cavity by an esophageal laceration from the struggle with the ribbon. he had quickly worsened in condition and began to go into septic shock, and in a call that has now made this situation well beyond my finances, I begged them to save his life.
and they did. he's now recovering in the ICU and improving every day, and much faster than anyone expected after the condition he'd been in!! but this is still adding up just as fast--as anyone who's had to get prolonged pet emergency care can attest, I'm sure. I've maxed out my care credit and am hurriedly applying for discover loans as my parents begrudgingly hand over their credit cards to keep his care going through tomorrow. things are getting pretty bad.
Please... he's only 2. He deserves so many more years of life and I refuse to let a ribbon take that from him. I know none of you can just hand a stranger thousands of dollars, but any amount truly helps, as does sharing. Thank you in advance, and keep sending my boy your best fast-healing vibes.

We the hsr community are really missing out by ignoring the aventio dynamic that is canon and funny.
Because okay. Let's be fr: Ratio has however many degrees, multiple PhDs inside that. He has a job now, obviously, but he also spent a fat while trying and failing to get Nous and the Genius Society to notice him. He's renowned and super smart and has a bunch of achievements and credentials, but that student loan debt,,, fml. And we know from Herta and Asta's dynamic that scientific endeavours aren't just automatically funded.
So for some period of time before the IPC/Intelligentsia Guild snatched him up, I imagine Ratio was bobbing along like those rubber ducks he likes so much. Not broke, exactly, but certainly in the midst of six different projects at any given time and also canonically doing TA work as well like. Relatable king.
Dr Ratio has eaten a pot noodle in his life is what I'm saying.
But that's like,,, regular financial strain. Aventurine's situation is so far removed that to talk about it in just a monetary way would be insane. His net worth was *how much he was sold for*. But you know. He didn't have rent? Aventurine wouldn't have had any concept of what was "normal" between his downtrodden upbringing and horrific early adulthood.
So what I'm saying on that unhappy note is that when Aventurine got with the IPC, it's no wonder he seems most cavalier about dishing out credits. What do they even mean to him?? Money is important and he understands its value obviously - like it's part of his job and he's smart - but his personal experience is at odds with what he knows logically.
(and in some ways, after having been assigned a monetary value himself... I don't think Aventurine can conceive of any amount of money that is worth a person's life. He'll use people as "chips" but that's different)
Anyway. When Ratio was a fresh faced IPC collaborator and stuck with Aventurine as his partner, their first mission must have been insane. Like Aventurine only knows top level IPC people's financial situations so when Ratio is just a reasonably normal guy Aventurine must have been ???? He's still new at this too, you know, does Ratio need bailing out of all this debt? (it's very regular and he's responsibly paying it off ASAP), should Aventurine get on his good side with an extravagant purchase on his own fairly new IPC issued credit card? (he chooses not to because that might flaunt it).
Ratio notices. Obviously. But the biggest issue for him is Aventurine comparative cluelessness more than actual offense. Also like Ratio is certainly NOT poor I'm sure that first IPC paycheck will polish off the student loans entirely.
It's that cluelessness that would them trigger him to try and figure out Why this clearly competent Stoneheart who is obviously very good with money would be so out of his element when faced with a normal financial situation. And Ratio is blunt so he says those words out loud but without any of those complimentary parts. Aventurine is still reeling from someone seeing through his façade.
This isn't going anywhere except Aventurine trying to be a sugar daddy for maybe four days before he clocks onto the situation properly. And Ratio isn't about to say no to paying off that student loan debt a bit faster. And eventually they're both so well compensated by the IPC that when Aventurine casually transfers everyone else 100000 credits just for being in the room, he has to come up with some insane and creative way to shock Ratio. Maybe that's where the gun light cone came from: "if I can't impress you with my shiny new wealth I will certainly do it with my luck 🤗 why are you dialling a crisis line rn"

Things Biden and the Democrats did, this week #23
June 14-21 2024.
On the 12th anniversary of President Obama's DACA program President Biden announced a new pathway to legal status and eventual citizenship for Dreamers. DACA was an executive action by President Obama which deferred any deportation of persons brought to the US as children without legal status. While DACA allowed Dreamers to work legally in the US for the first time, it didn't give them permanent legal status. Now the Biden administration is streamlining the process for employers to apply for work Visas for Dreamers. With Visas Dreamers will for the first time have legal status, the ability to leave and reenter the US legally, and a pathway to a Green Card and eventual citizenship.
President Biden also announced protections for the undocumented spouses and children of US citizens. The new rule allows the spouse, or step-child of a US citizen to apply for lawful permanent residency without having to leaving the country. It's estimated this will help 500,000 undocumented people married to Americans, and 50,000 children under the age of 21 whose parent is married to an American citizen. Current law forces spouses to leave the United States if they're here illegally and wait and unclear period of probation before being allowed to return, but being allowed back is not assured.
The IRS announced that it'll close a tax loophole used by the ultra rich and corporations and believes it'll raise $50 billion in revenue. Known as a "pass-through" has allowed the rich to move money around to avoid taxes in a move the Treasury is calling a shell-game. Pass-throughs have grown by 70% between 2010 and 2019 and the IRS believes it helped the rich avoid paying $160 billion dollars in taxes during that time. The IRS estimates its crack down on these will raise $50 billion in tax revenue over the next 10 years.
The EPA and Department of Energy announced $850 million to monitor, measure, quantify and reduce methane emissions from the oil and gas sector. Methane is the second most common greenhouse gas, responsible for 1/3rd of the global warming. The funding will focus on helping small operators significantly reduce emissions, as well as help more quickly detect and cap methane leaks from low-producing wells. All this comes after the EPA finalized rules to reduce methane emissions by 80% from oil and gas.
The Biden Administration took steps to protect the nations Old Growth Forests. The move will greatly restrict any logging against the 41 million acres of protected land owned by the federal government. The Administration also touted the 20% of America's forests that are in urban settings as parks and the $1.4 billion invested in their protection through the President’s Investing in America agenda.
The Biden Administration released new rules tying government support for clean energy to good paying jobs. If companies want to qualify for massive tax credits they'll have to offer higher wages and better conditions. This move will push union level wages across the green energy sector.
The Department of Education announced large reductions in student loan payments, and even a pause for some, starting in July. For millions of Americans enrolled in the Biden Administration's SAVE plan, starting in July, monthly payments on loans borrowed for undergraduate will be reduced from 10% to 5% of discretionary income. As the department hasn't been able to fully calculate the change for all borrowers at this point it will pause payment for those it hasn't finalized the formula for and they won't have to make a payment till DoE figures it out. The SAVE plan allows many borrowers to make payments as low as $0 a month toward having their loans forgiven. So far the Biden Administration has forgiven $5.5 billion wiping out the debt of 414,000 people enrolled in SAVE.
The Biden Administration celebrated the 1 Millionth pension protected under the American Rescue Plan. Senator Bob Casey joined Biden Administration officials and Union official to announce that thanks to the Butch Lewis Act passed in 2021 the government would be stepping in to secure the pensions of 103,000 Bakery and Confectionery Union workers which were facing a devastating 45% cut. This brings to 1 million the number of workers and retirees whose pensions have been secured by the Biden Administration, which has supported 83 different pension funds protecting them from an average of 37% cut.
The Department of Energy announced $900 million for the next generation of nuclear power. This investment in Gen III+ Small Modular Reactor will help bring about smaller and more flexible nuclear reactors with smaller footprints. Congress also passed a bill meant to streamline nuclear power and help push on to the 4th generation of reactors
Vice President Harris announced a $1.5 billion dollar aid package to Ukraine. $500 million will go toward repairing Ukraine's devastated energy sector which has been disrupted by Russian bombing. $324 million will go toward emergency energy infrastructure repair. $379 million in humanitarian assistance from the State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development to help refugees and other people impacted by the war.
America pledged $315 million in new aid for Sudan. Sudan's on-going civil war has lead to nearly apocalyptic conditions in the country. Director of USAID, Samantha Power, warned that Sudan could quickly become the largest famine the world has seen since Ethiopia in the early 1980s when a million people died over 2 years. The US aid includes food and water aid as well as malnutrition screening and treatment for young children.
Bonus: Maryland Governor Wes Moore pardoned more than 175,000 people for marijuana convictions. This mirrors President Biden's pardoning of people convicted of federal marijuana charges in 2022 and December 2023. President Biden is not able to pardon people for state level crimes so called on Governors to copy his action and pardon people in their own state. Wes Moore, a Democrat, was elected in 2022 replacing Republican Larry Hogan.

4/22/24 - Update/Newish Post
It's been a busy week, but I no longer have a mobile hotspot I can use at the shelter, so I'm redoing the post on the pinned post.
So last week I had the county share my County of San Diego Section 8 housing application (which I've been waiting on for 17 years) with the City of Oceanside Housing Office, which is the city I currently have a three bedroom house waiting for me if I can get on their Section 8 list. So we're still waiting to hear if they'll bump me up on the Oceanside list, but yeah. That's where housing currently stands.
What I primarily need help with is bills. I have a $500 loan and a $300 loan coming out May 2nd. I have some assorted PayPal 4 in 4 payments coming out as early as the 26th that I need to cover (totaling at least $700 to get Mr paid off or through to when I'll have money). I have a few credit cards of my mom's that need to be paid or are close to being paid off, and that's at least $350.
I'm going to set the goal at $2,000 because, fingers crossed, if I can pay these last few things off I'll have money to put towards gas, food, Lena's glasses and other essentials without having to take out loans next month at all. So any help would be much appreciated!

if you have it in you to be mad about how much electricity is being wasted on bitcoin you should also be mad about how much human labor and capital goes down the drain of the Great Wedding Scam
It's a worldwide catastrophe but here are figures for the US from a BusinessInsider post three years ago:
Average wedding cost: $29,200
Average yearly individual salary: $59,160
Fraction of couples who go into debt: 28%
A wedding website, Zola, on that ~28% of people who go into debt:
According to a recent LendEDU wedding debt survey, one-third of respondents said they went into some sort of debt to pay for their big day—an average of nearly $12,000. The survey found people mostly borrowed through credit cards and personal loans.
What’s more, nearly 40% of respondents said they regret taking on the debt and estimated it will take them about five years to pay off.
this is so awful I want to cry. All that money FOR WHAT? They’re not even having orgies or snorting cocaine off hookers! It’s a normal party but IT RUINS YOUR LIFE FOR FIVE YEARS
