Back in the earlier days of Barbie, when the brand was only just developing, Mattel already had their eyes set on sets themed around characters and archetypes known to their audiences outside of Barbie as an aspirational figure herself.
We may think fondly about sets like 1999's King Arthur and Guinevere, for example.
Tumblr media
But 36 years prior, in 1963, there was another Guinevere and King Arthur release: as a part of the Little Theatre series.
Tumblr media
The Little Theatre series featured costumes, scripts, and a stage setpiece for Barbie, Ken, Midge, and any of their other friends to put on a show.
Tumblr media
Not all of these are necessarily particularly culturally sensitive, as we can see by the inclusion of "Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp" and "A Thousand & One Nights". Perhaps sticking with Red Riding Hood and Cinderella was the better choice after all.
Tumblr media
I am quite charmed by the whole set, cultural insensitivity aside, and I think they show a delightful creativity.
Tumblr media
Of particular interest to audiences might be this old print ad which reminds us that all of Ken's clothes fit Allan, and all of Barbie's clothes fit Midge. Just in case we forgot!

1950-1952
Note on the dates: I will mostly be going by when a show/movie was shot (or when De was signed to do it) rather than it's release date.

Wigston Amateur Operatic Society presents Grease at Little Theatre Review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Tickets gifted for review I don’t think anybody needs an introduction into what Grease is all about. It’s Greased Lightning! (And yes, that Greased Lightning mobile makes it on stage at the Little Theatre!). Get your hands at the ready, find your shiniest leather trousers and be prepared to hear some fabulous renditions of this iconic show by Wigston Amateur Operatic Society. Though……

Musicals are time loops. Every night, the same thing happens except for a few minor differences. It always ends the same. If you want the characters to do something different or to make better choices, too bad. The actors are bound by the script and the score. The only way for the time loop to end is for the show to close. But you (the audience) don't want the show to close, nor do the actors who would like to be employed. It's a lose/lose situation. For the actors, audience, technicians, and for the characters, who are forever stuck in the same stretch of time.

Shoutout to my tragic theatre kids. My girls born to play Elle Woods who have dark hair. My people destined to be Misha Bachinski who are 5'2". My people who should be analyzing newsies choreo who have face blindness. My Cats fanatics with no flexibility. My girls made to be a Veronica but are forced to be a Martha. Female Audrey II s. Male Janet Weiss's. The wrong range for the right role. You are meant for this character but they weren't designed for you and there's nothing you can do

I will never understand how some ppl have such little imagination that they can’t even suspend their disbelief long enough to watch a musical without asking why the characters are singing

April in Paris Review. Little Theatre, Leicester (2024)
A descriptive escapade around Paris ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 It’s not an easy task to open a show in January, and I imagine it’s even more of a task when you’re a two-cast amateur show opening in January, but the cast Steve Feeney and Kat Seddon, along with director Leigh White deserve all the success and more with this comedic yet easy-watching play. Set in Yorkshire, Bet and Al are on a turbulent relationship…

WILDLY self indulgent actor Feenie art.. I think maybe Ivy University held a musical and Phoenix managed to land Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors because it doesn't get more theatre kid than that
(Also I was just listening to the soundtrack while I drew)
I let Larry be a good friend even though we don't see him in college, he has the spirt okay? I think he probably liked the weird finale LOL
