Hot Take: Ship wars are cringe, saying X shippers are not safe on your blog is even cringier. Even if the ship in question is an abomination before god.

Normalize giving everyone the same amount of respect, and if you don't like/want a ship on your blog just telling that to ppl when they ask/comment about it.

Just be normal, get a life and realize fictional ships just genuinly are unimportant af. And that the shippers behind them are normal humans too who deserve basic human respect.

tbh this is entirely based on my own experiences watching the show, but looking at the poll about "whose going to be endgame buddie vs bucktommy" im just like... how many of them actually did watch the show before they picked buddie? because while i came into the show for tevan as a ship (the funeral with buck and tommy together was the exact scene that convinced me to watch the show), i honestly expected to like... understand where the BoBs were coming from.

and then it just... never happened. a lot of it was "yeah, i can see where some people would interpret this as romantic if they don't have really close friendships," but i've literally got close friendships where if i was widowed, i would write it into my will that my child would almost definitely go with one of my best friends (if they were fine with that decision) rather than my parents, if those were my only two options (idk im assuming in this theoretical for my life that there's a reason why my deceased spouse's parents aren't an option). like, i have solid reasons to say "i'd want my kid going to one of my closest friends" and i don't feel anything romantic toward those friends in the slightest--and i have friends who are compatible w my sexuality and those who aren't, not that it matters since i can still have feelings for someone i'm incompatible with. i've spent countless hours yapping to one of my closest friends about anything and anything. if i found out she was injured badly enough to be hospitalized, i'd probably go into a depressive slump and cry over her because she's family to me. i literally had someone ask me once if i was dating her, gagged over it, told her, and then she also gagged over it because "we're family??? gross??? i love u but not like That????" before we moved on talking about something else

like... ik ppl calling out the "there's no platonic explanation for this!" stuff has been going around tumblr plenty and i'm glad it has been. there's always a platonic explanation, y'all just don't have deeply intimate relationships with close friends and it shows. i love my close friends, but i'm not in love with my close friends, and imo that's healthy and important, and it wouldn't change even if i was dating someone rn.

i can buy people viewing stuff through shippers goggles bc everyone does that at some point. the issue really comes from insisting that it was 100% intended and that b*ddie is going canon any day now because ppl can't tell their headcanons from what the show and everyone on it keeps telling us. ik its been said before, but b*ddie doesn't have to go canon to be enjoyed. like id say at least 80% of fandom shipping culture is looking at non-canon ships and going "yeah, i'll fuck with that." lmao literally i kinda thought linda and eddie would have had a cute relationship and its entirely based on the fact that i liked what we saw of their friendship and that it could be nice for eddie to have a friendship with a woman first before later pursuing her.

but idk thats what i get for watching the actual show in its entirety and enjoying the actual show on my screen rather than just watching tiktoks saying "OMG B*DDIE CANON???" because they breathed on the same planet at the same time. the writers could have buck come out on screen right now and say the literal exact words "eddie is my brother, not a guy i want to date. and even if i did, i deserve better than him" and they'd still be finding a way to say the b*ddie is canon trust while also bitching about buck for implying that eddie is anything less than perfect

not to add my two cents on what is already a shitstorm beenado of discourse but i just wanna say that i find it real interesting that the tags on that buddie queerbait poll are full of ppl, mostly bt's (judging by the amount of pfp's with t's face in them), claiming how it's not the showrunners / producers / etc's fault that buddies felt baited, and that it's no one's fault but our own for somehow baiting ourselves and on the journos who wrote clickbait headlines to draw us in as if that's all it was that led to us feeling baited. which is insane to me cause it just categorically ignores the fact that that they chose to market the show by allowing certain interview questions to be asked, by allowing certain interviews to not only be framed around the question of buddie going canon but to specifically put the two actors of the ship in interviews together answering questions about the ship potentially going canon.

at the end of the day the journos and interviewers and whoever the hell else can choose all the questions they want but if the ppl behind the show - the showrunners and the producers and the pr team and whoever else may be involved in those marketing decisions - don't want buddie to be the focus they can simply. not allow those questions. because that's how marketing works. it is literally their job to analyze how ppl in the audience are gonna respond to promo and when you frame 99% of your promo around buddie, including putting the actors together to talk about it, knowing there's not gonna be any follow-through on the show, you have to be aware on some level that you're not only (cruelly) teasing the (already mostly disenfranchised) part of the audience that has been actively rooting for buddie for almost a decade, but also keeping it top of mind for non-buddie shippers who are seeing it alongside their consumption of the show, making everyone think it's leading somewhere it's not.

this is not just about being upset that the ship i wanted didn't happen. this is so much bigger than that. because if it's not happening and there were no plans to make it happen then fine, but why the FUCK was the entire promo run centered around buddie? even bt's have to admit that's fucking baity and a shitty thing to do. if you wanna pretend like y'all weren't also whining when they put your fave (t) front and center in promo scenes only for him to be on screen for all of 30 seconds of the ep then have at it, but ya'll know if it was your ship they'd done something like this for you'd be big mad too (and you know it's true because it's already happened small-scale).

and furthermore i also saw ppl making the claim that the show itself never actually baited buddie this season and that they unequivocally shut down buddie by having buck deny any feelings and eddie say he was straight and us still reading into things was just us baiting ourselves. but in fact for a lot of ppl who were previously oblivious to buddie it actually had the complete opposite effect. because, much like the promo mess, it was not top of mind until they made it top of mind and then you suddenly had a bunch of ppl in the gen audience going wait is there something there? are they putting seeds in place to get them together?

i am not alone in observing this firsthand. my own mother, who never for a second even considered buddie in any way shape or form as at all romantic, had this reaction completely independently during the beginning of 8b. i have never once mentioned buddie to her or around her, nor is she in any online fandom spaces (she didn't even know they existed until very recently and is not internet savvy enough to find them without outside help) so it was not at all my or anyone else's influence that led her to this conclusion. she got there all on her own just from watching what was presented to her in the show. and i've seen other ppl in fandom reporting similar experiences from their (often older) non-buddie shipping friends and relatives too. so clearly the writers' / showerunners' attempts to shut buddie down (if that's even what it was) was either really, really bad or just plain unsuccessful or both as it obviously did not at all have the intended effect for anyone (but maybe salty anti buddie stans who were looking for any excuse to gloat either way) and actually seemed to large-scale have the exact opposite effect.

anyways i just had to get all that out cause it was driving me insane having it all swirl around in my head while i scrolled through tags & comments but i digress (and for anyone who even bothered to read this long ass rant and got his far, thanks for reading & much love).

Cooper Howard and Lucy MacLean's rare and wonderful dynamic (and how it's ultimately alright if they don't become "endgame" or whatever)

First off... I'm saying this as a HUGE ghoulcy shipper btw. I don't wanna hear about some bullshit about how "you just don't like the ship" or something dumb like that (have you SEEN the state of my blog??). I ADORE this ship. These are also ultimately my own thoughts. Do not be affronted if this somehow doesn't apply to your hcs. At the end of the day, this is fiction, nothing more.

Something I have to note on about the wonderful dynamic between Cooper and Lucy. Even if ghoulcy stays platonic, I'm fine with it because this is the closest dynamic to Jack/Liz from 30 Rock that l've seen, and if anyone's seen that show, you KNOW what I'm talking about. Let me explain.

Jack/Liz were two v complex characters that had so much chemistry but the way their "relationship" worked was so unique in that they were never romantic but they're WAY more than just colleagues/ friends, etc. There was literally an article titled like "why you'll never see this kind of relationship in television again" and ghoulcy has the potential to be that again which is still GREAT! It even goes on to talk about how they're COMPLETE AND POLAR OPPOSITES but the dynamic still works and how they feed off of each other in the only way no other characters can. The "dynamic" is THEIRS and theirs only. Seem familiar?

From what we're getting not just in the Fallout show but from interviews with the actors and creatives involved, we're already getting that special dynamic. However, I must stress that many of the comments and those interviews (imo) are sometimes taken TOO literally. The existing text and subtext of the ship is already abundant and ripe so I feel like not EVERYTHING has to be referred to the ship and the ship only. I know it's mostly funsies but I legit wonder if some of this is taken too seriously to the point of misconstruing an actor's words and getting tunnel vision JUST for the sake of the ship and ship only, in turn cheapening what is already there. Kinda like what I've seen with people having to vilify Barb further with unnecessary inferences to scenes that give her more layers (like questioning her genuine love for Janey and Cooper. She can be loving AND a villain y'all. Both things don't have to be mutually exclusive) EVEN THOUGH SHE IS CLEARLY VILIFIED BY THE SHOW BY THE REVEAL SO WHY MAKE UP STUFF? To "punish" her more?? Apologies but this kinda reads as "I need to prop up my ship further so I MUST degrade the other ship" even though it's again... SUPER UNNECESSARY (I must stress I've seen this on ALL sides of shipping/character stanning. Both sides suck when you engage in this behaviour). Have fun and faith in the strength of your ships (ESPECIALLY if they're not "canon" adjacent)!

Anyway, as I was saying...

Going back to 30 Rock, there's literally a scene in the show where they get married due to shenanigans, they get in a big fight the whole episode and in the end sit down and have the most revealing discussion with a councilor about why they're so much more complex than typical relationship. And another scene where they sleep in the same bed together and addressed why they never hooked up with each other and why that's okay. By the way, I was also a HUGE shipper of these two... But I was fine with how they ended up with because the story of their special relationship that makes them uniquely THEM was clear and concise. This did not stop me from reading fics where they make kissy faces. It is possible to do both and I think some ppl tend to forget this.

I'm not saying this for the antis (don't like what you don't like, but if you harass shippers then you can suck eggs and leave. This applies to shippers to non shippers too btw. Be. Nice.), I'm saying all this because I want shippers to not "despair" if the ship that they've become so invested in doesn't come to fruition (and not go overboard into thinking that writers should listen to whatever audiences want all the time, we've been down this road SO many times, it's terrible. Do we REALLY need to talk about how The Rise of Skywalker turned out the way it did due to unnecessary pressure from the loudest antis/asshats in fandom? I think not). Maybe this is also more towards the younger audience members as a cautionary tale because we old ass millenials have seen and been through this but didn't have the immediacy of social media at our finger tips, so it was kinda easier to not be as reactionary. I don't like playing the "you youngins don't know what it was like" card, but at some points it is just a statement of reality. Some of you are/were LITERALLY too young to have experienced this.

Ultimately, what I'm saying is even if ghoulcy doesn't become "romantic", I'm fine with it as long as they stay within the "something more/beyond definition" dynamic which is ALWAYS refreshing to see. Give us more "what are we"! Give us more "it's complicated"! Give us more "we can't be summarized in neat little boxes"!

As long as they don't end up in the pit of "one dimensional interpretation of the Found Family trope which is somehow only just Familial and in this instance Father-Daughter". Please, I BEG. Nothing wrong for people to like this dynamic, but to immediately categorize this into that box is just... Tiresome. You can make the same arguments about "shipping two living beings together on screen all the time" too for sure... But again it leads to my point of if we're going the platonic route how about we NOT just shove it in the same boring dynamic of Father-Daughter that if you want, can find in multitudes of other forms of existing fictional media.

Tldr; have fun but always remember this is all fictional media in the end where we play with dolls in a sandbox. Just remember to BE. NORMAL. and not forget this and start shitting in it and flinging poo at each other. That goes with relationships with creators of said media too. Do NOT become parasocial and expect everything to be catered to you. The creators want to tell a story THEY came up with in the first place.

I've never been in fandom like this before so I cant tell if this reaction is normal or not after the "canon romance ending" -it feels more like ppl want to errase other versions of BNHA the fandom comes up with unless they "agree" with a supposedly canon love pair-. However I believe this is not just a BNHA thing, its probably bc of this new wave of ppl in fandom since the 2020 lockdown that dont know how fandom content works -to the point some ppl cant even understand how someone can ship another pair that isnt canon or after others are canonized-. And I say this as someone who actually joined actively the bnha fandom in 2022, but was looking at the content since what, 2016? 2017? idk, it was pretty wild lol

Some ppl just ship bc its aesthetically cute -and thats completely fine! This is playing with dolls, not spitting into the author's face or something, and in fact the shippers (and fangirls) are the ones that make the work stay as strong historically speaking-.

I think they dont fit the rival trope as well as others bc its clear for other shonens how those characters are mainly rivals/friendly rivals, but in BNHA the rivalry aspect of their relationship gets overshadow by the care they have for each other completely outside of that -while other characters feel like they are meant to end as forever rivals on the same side, which can be romantic in fanon too, bkdk clearly felt like they had to end united, the negative feelings towards the other erased-. The rivalry is a minor aspect of their relationship deep down, almost an excuse to be allowed together, and there is softness and rage tied to each other's well being; their rivalry was never about a betrayal, or a competition, but Katsuki being unable to accept the feelings he has when Deku is around (the inferiority, the fear of a person who never takes themselves into account and risks it all, his idea of who he truly was breaking just bc of his presence, confusion out of not understanding what's going on in Deku's mind, etc.), and once he starts to accept he was wrong, the rivalry becomes just an external aspect of their relationship: Katsuki uses this in order to motivate Izuku into pushing harder and work more into his goals, and also to not make him worry about him knowing he gets unstable when the ppl he cares about get hurt.

With this I mean, whenever Katsuki says something about him being better than Deku at something, or telling him he is going to surpass him, is all about making Izuku confident in his abilities -Katsuki sees him as a strong person, so he should also consider himself like that-. And even when its clear Katsuki is struggling to keep up, literally falling behind him, he says how Deku shouldn't be "making him slow" just bc he fears Izuku will crumble if he knows the truth, which is what happened with Dark Deku -he realized he was the "only strong enough", so he left everyone behind in order to protect them. Katsuki's words are there not bc he is unaware of his weaknesses but bc he knows deku's. After that, once he achieves greatness and becomes on the same level, he literally tells him to not let him surpass him -a reminder of this play that simplifies everything, "dont let me leave you behind, I know you can do this". The rivalry isnt meant to be an actual competition, but something that united them and made them better, while being together.

Its clear how the rivalry is not treated as an actual shonen rivalry, and 431 reinforces it too: Katsuki's words tie Izuku's self perception with his participation in their competitive phrases/games, and his complete cluelessness over it means he isnt taking himself into account positively (and accidentally insults the ppl he cares about bc of it). Its a negative sign, that he doesnt even consider himself when Katsuki talks about someone surpassing him, nor recalls those words.

Basically their dynamic is not exclusively nor mainly a shonen rivalry in the first place, which is why so many ppl also started feeling like something was going on between them, even if they weren't shippers.

I believe manga, tv shows etc are usually considered not worthy of any analysis, that if you do it means you are a pathetic obsessed fan by interacting with the content. It wasn't a good romance, and the set up was forgotten quite early with many, many missed opportunities to make them feel like they need to end together in any way; instead, its like they look into the same direction, going on their own ways. And that could still be interesting, but the truth is, 431 doesnt make it romantic clearly nor well written, and we dont have to pretend it was just bc they added blush (which btw, it always bothered me how bad it was drawn, like they added a bunch of lines on top of their faces as a last minute thought, specially with ochako, who is seen to have BOTH her usual little blush and the big sloppy one, which makes me feel like they added it after finishing the chapter, instead of being planned from the start. This is bc I think we have never seen that kind of blush before -the most similar example is Ochako with a dark face, meaning is red, and her little blush at the same time, but not the "line" kind of blush on top of her usual one, yk? just made things look worse to me).

I used to draw for other small/rare ships (apparently I'm drawn to those kind of ships lol), only one of them got huge enough after they were given some time alone in the manga which got the ship more talented and known creators and amazing fan art.

Unfortunately it also got more hate on since it was a ship that "got in the way" of other huge popular ships and going through the tag got annoying bc the haters tagged every post shitting on the previously rare pairing, plus if you reblogged or made content for it they would harass you. I just blocked everyone sending me hate lmao.

Lots of people now hate Leon/Ashley but I think this increased hatred also shows how the haters can see that it is a thing now unlike before. They see it as a real threat. You can see the insecurity in some of those antis, it's too obvious and also just sad imo. I don't get why antis take shipping too seriously like they're not even having fun anymore and that's supposed to be the point, no?

Truth is I've seen so many Leon/Ashley fans online and even irl, Reddit for example loves it and Remake Ashley is a fan favorite now. A lot of them are more casual fans that maybe don't engage that deeply with fanon (which tbh is the smart thing to do).

Finally I have to say your blog and the amazing fic writers have inspired me to go back to drawing fan art and just creating content for Ashley/Leon or EagleOne. :)

Since this is my new otp and the only thing I love shipping rn I'm also just creating a new blog for that purpose. I'm not an amazing artist I'm just an amateur but I'll try to do something soon when I'm less busy. I'll absolutely tag it as EagleOne. Hopefully I can motivate others to do the same.

Because out of all of the different shippers participating in this contest, you were the only fandom who didn't ceaselessly shit on the Obikin. Y'all are super awesome and probably aren't okay with ppl being mean. what happened w the staff wrt “scortched earth”

ok so staff has a new page @/humans where they've got a post up listing several of the current moderators for the site, some of whom linked their own tumblr blogs. user @partyjockers made an original post like "so the new staff lineup explains why mods aren't blocking actual terfs huh" & then reblogged their own post with screenshots for evidence, one of the @/humans intro post, and one of the blog of one of those mods, "jas," @/jezzuminah. all publicly visible posts.

jas is a diehard hp fan, but people paid close attention to her artwork (her art tag is linked in a pinned post at the top of her blog). she's done a lot of dramione fanart, a lot of attack on titan fanart, and ship fanart of aged up preschoolers from spy x family. of note, she also put in her header, "opinions are my own," which is typical for ppl maintaining private social media accts linked to their real professional lives, as a way to ask for or demand a free pass to be inflammatory in some way w/o facing prof'nl. repercussions.

most of the commentary I saw at that point on @partyjockers's post was like, "lol that figures," bc it's not like any of that is especially shocking to see on tumblr; it's dime a dozen in fandom circles, but funny to confirm that "yeah the employees #on here are like that too, ugh, smh. 🙄"

within ONE DAY, staff had no only entirely shut down & seemingly permabanned @partyjockers, AND copyright striked the original screenshots so they get blanked out to error pictures if you try to repost them, they also did something they've never done before + which past staff have indicated was not doable within the tumblr framework: they scrubbed every trace of the post from the site. original post, gone. THOUSANDS of reblogs, all gone. even notifications from people interacting with reblogs of the post, wiped from the activity page. like beyond twitter, where if you delete a tweet, you can still see people's responses from THEIR pages, and you can still see QRTs even if you can't see what's been retweeted... every interaction w that post was gone. @partyjockers, gone. jas just toggled off the "view top posts" feature, locked her twitter & instagram, and deleted one piece of dramione fanart that people began reblogging after that overkill response.

and NOW the scrutiny is higher than ever before, because it's all fun & games and "my opinions are my own" until one person hurts your feelings (at WORK) by pointing & saying, "harry potter fan!" ...and, vitally, they also proved @partyjockers right. they've always been able to erase the entire footprint of violent fascists, people spreading explicit hate speech, literal nazis, revenge porn distributors, doxxers, bigots who run active harassment campaigns (incl some terfs!), ppl who share EXPLICIT csa materials, gore, etc.— even pages like @communismkills just got shadowbanned, and that was after a LONG TIME being a leaking sphincter on this site.

and tumblr staff have thus far ONLY ever unleashed this big gun ONCE in the whole history of the site, to my knowledge, as a tool to take down a page that wasn't even, like, a "whistleblower" for anything that serious, but who JUST SAID, "y'all don't ban terfs (true!) & y'all hire harry potter fans (also true!)," which apparently this new staff took sooooo personally & seriously & disparagingly (lol) that they nuked a random person's page from orbit over the "insult."

and we're currently on day 2, so I'm sure more will eventually unfold, but yeah, this scorched earth tactic is genuinely batshit hostility out of nowhere, over not even mild criticism but just a literal factual observation.
