when i first watched this show i cant be the only one that felt some type of way abt this line

like this is genuinely sad, all around, if i was Jim i'd feel such heartache in that moment, that arguably one of my best friends felt and said that - and obviously for spock too cause u can feel how shaken he is when he says it, like its one of the few things that bubbled up from his deeply hidden core. its very raw i feel for that reason, something abt that line feels profoundly disheartening. It hit hard at first view especially cus its smth ive never heard put that way before, "when i understand and accept you as someone i care about, for no reason or motive other than i want to be around you for you — im instinctually disgusted by it, so much that it instills a deep sense of aversion. because it has been beaten into me so relentlessly, that i cannot enjoy something as beautiful and deeply fundamental to all living creatures; as a bond, even to you"

obviously mans did not say all that but when u think abt the sentiment and the backstory its probably smth like that between the lines, and of course they were on zoomies at the time so they were being wild as hell all day

it really is SUCH a shame that there’s no episode of TOS where the enterprise crew time jumps to Regency-era England or goes to a planet that modeled its culture on that era or something, because it would truly slap for every single main character. Like I don’t even have to explain why this would be awesome for Spock— Mr. I’ll-smash-a-computer-with-my-bare-hands-before-I’ll-admit-I’m-horny himself, king of repression, who basically recreated the famous Pride and Prejudice Hand Flex Scene™️ with his beloved Captain that one time, who meets a blind woman with a high tech gown that helps her “see” and LITERALLY tells her to give his compliments to her dressmaker, who mislead a woman once about his affections and tenderly promised to safeguard her reputation forever about it, who has the perfect angular features to be set off by a cravat—I mean, you get it, but then you’ve also got Kirk—handsome, affable, brave Naval captain who loves his crew more than himself, who falls in like deep profound love with every woman the plot throws at him—and then McCoy—cantankerous, sure, (ever heard of a grumpy/sunshine trope??) but with impeccable, downright old school manners towards women and, yeah, a doctor’s not that prestigious in Regency times, but for like a young lady in trouble who needs the protection of a man’s name or who just wants to piss off her stuffy aristocrat family by marrying “beneath” them, who could be better? If you throw Scotty in the mix, well, he’s Scottish, which [points at a whole subgenre of regency romance novels] is all he’d really need. I’m just saying they would have CLEANED UP, okay??

the last convention i went to i was discussing trek with a guy and he triumphantly declared that reboot uhura is "a SLUT" and the look of panic in his eyes when he realised i wasn't laughing and just cringing was palpable. he went on to explain that "uhura never needed to be a love interest, she was better than that" oh lord

firstly, committed relationship with one man does not equal slut

more importantly: uhura wasn't allowed to be a love interest in the sixties due to racism. gene, leonard and nichelle wanted spock & uhura to be a thing but it literally was not allowed during those days. spock and uhura kissing and being together in the trek reboot movies is a show of how far we've come since then

im also frustrated with the notion that being in a romantic relationship diminishes a woman, in real life or in fiction

love, romance and sexuality does not subtract from a woman

yes, many female characters are reduced to love interests and nothing else, due to sexist writing. but that really doesnt apply to reboot uhura. for one thing, this is where they canonized her being a linguistics genius. and furthermore, feminism looks different for different types of women. white female love interests are dime a dozen, but its still to do this day progressive for black women to be love interests because theres been a history of black women being underrepresented in media in general, including as people being worthy of being loved. i think that's an important thing for all oppressed groups to see in fiction. to love and be loved

did the reboot trek movies have any of this in mind? i fucking doubt it. do those movies have sexist writing? oh yeah. but man, uhura and spock being together was never a bad decision

long ago i saw a black woman say "i love seeing a woman like me be loved by spock" and ya know what? fuck everybody else, the star trek reboot movies are for her specifically. i think many trekkies can agree that being loved by spock would be an extra special honour

Thinking. Abt this but with Bones. Like. Post-Tholian Web? Post-Mirror Mirror?

For AOS, could be after Into Darkness and/or Beyond.

A Bones who's just. So anxious. So stressed. So overwhelmed that it starts taking a toll on his health. Maybe he doesn't even realise - or maybe he does and tries his best to push through it until it knocks him on his ass. Kind of in the vein of "You don't actually know how tired you are until you stop. And then you just physically cannot start again." It becomes his new baseline, a problem that just brews and storms in the distance.

And he just carries on. And keeps going and going and going until one day he realises that 'Oh fuck, I'm not okay' and has about 5 seconds of warning before he straight up collapses, doesn't matter if it's on the bridge, in the madbay, on a planet - he's going down. (Maybe a repeat of Tholian Web where he just straight up faints into Spock's arms? Full whammy, why not)

Maybe it's a high-tension situation getting resolved that does it. The pure relief of it reminds him of how tired he is. How tired he's been for a while. His body sees that momentary rest and goes "More of that, please. And I'm not asking."

And he's so rendered by it that he doesn't grumble about being coddled like he normally would when he wakes up. He knows not to fuck with the medbay staff - they're just as firm as he is on recovery, and that's not by accident - and he knows that Spock and Kirk will be hovering, because they see any problem as something they, too, should shoulder the burden of.

...And because they're some of the most protective people in the damned universe. And that goes for pretty much all the people on board the Enterprise.

In some scenarios, it's just a case of letting his body and mind rest properly. In others, there's a lot more recovery involved than anyone initially expects. Luckily for him, he has a found family who are determined to be there with him at every step. It just takes a couple reminders, every once in a while.

Look I know that Strange New Worlds is supposed to be the same continuity as TOS but also I categorically reject that.

This isn't the same Christine Chapel. Key members of the crew could not have been good friends with Khan's great great granddaughter. Spock and Christine were not ever together. The gorn didn't threaten war with the federation years before "Arena." Christopher Pike is not significantly older than Kirk. Sam Kirk was not old friends with Pike. This isn't even really the same Spock.

And I don't mean any of that as a negative. I LOVE what Strange New Worlds is doing. La'An is fantastic. Christine's a lot of fun and I like her and Spock together. The gorn make a great villain.

The differences don't make me mad-- I LIKE them and I want them to lean into them. Not because I dislike TOS's version, but because it's fun to see a different version of things and I want them to have the freedom to explore whatever relationships or character growth or world development they want. It's super fun.

So regardless of what the writers say, I'M going to treat it like a separate continuity akin to what the Kelvin timeline movies did. And if that approach ends up breaking my heart then so be it.

I think it’s going to be really funny if the Spock we know from TOS is going to be a result of his failed relationship with Chapel. He experimented with human emotions with her and it destroyed(?) him.

SPOCK: The joys of love made her human, and the agonies of love destroyed her.

Because of unsuccessful but powerful love, he decided to embrace his Vulcaness 1000% to the point where he started to feel that he shouldn’t even have friends. Being friends with someone was shameful.

He buried his ability to love. He buried his ability to feel.

KIRK: Will you try for one moment to feel? At least act like you've got a heart. We’re talking about Gary.

SPOCK: If I seem insensitive to what you're going through, Captain, understand it's the way I am.

and it’d be funny if The Naked Time and his interaction with Chapel was what kind of brought him back to accepting some feelings again, which led to him giving in to a hunch in the Galileo Seven, and his ordeal with Pike was almost the finishing line

KIRK: This regrettable tendency you've been showing lately towards flagrant emotionalism...

after that episode you have Spock struggling more and more between logic and emotions.

Okay so what if I told you I did a really silly thing and made a Star Trek tos medival fantasy AU.......

OKAY SOOOO 😍 basically I had this image of kirk in a suit of armor but that kind of half armor where the other half is a dress and thag kinda spawned everything else

The AU doesn't exactly stick to the typical medival fantasy world, I had an idea about vulcan/elves and humans not coexisting very well. And vulcans can do the typical magic spells so humans have to make manmade magic (ie. That big thing on scottys back and all of mcoy and chapels potions)

ANZYWAY here are some facts about them in the order they are presenteddd bc ik it's kind of a random set to start with lol I'll post more later

Kirk-

A knight from a kingdom (starfleet) that worships stars (?) Hes a captain and got separated from his troops. He looks a little grumpy in the image hes very sweet very himbo I was just concentrating on his outfit drawing that so I didn't think of the pose lol. Also! The way I og imagined him was with those two painted on dots, it could be a religious thing from the kingdom or something idk but I just rlly wanted them to stick so yeah!!

Scotty-

A blacksmith and all around inventor!! He specializes in man made magic, something very powerful and dangerous in the wrong hands but he just finds it useful to power his machines while he's on the go :) so of course he just pretty much PERFECTS IT IMMEDIETLY because he's scotty!! This probably got him attention from the wrong crowd and his moving from place to place life style becomes more of a on-the-run thing. Oops!

Mccoy-

OK I KNOW THIS IS A LITTLE WIERD IN A FANTASY but this was around the time I was leaning more medival than fantasy (because I love history) and was thinking- what did medival doctors do? Medival times was kind of the plague era.....riiiiighhttt..?? Anywaayy there's some magical plague going around in the background probably more near where Chapel and Mccoy are from. He travels the lands in search for people to help! He specializes in potions- thought not his favorite medicine but the only thing that can combat the sickness. He's just a very tired old man that wants to help people <3

Chapel-

OK SO UM THIS ONES VERY MEDIVAL BUT WHATEVER WERE ALREADY DOING IT!! Chapel lived in the same area as Mccoy, living as a nun (secrets out I don't care about history I just love nuns) Among the many nun things her favorite was helping the local doctor out as a nurse. She grew very knowledgeable about medicine, and with her previous knowledge of magic as a nun they both came up with a (sort of) cure to the plague. But oops! Blasfamy! As the church decided the plague was actually an act of God! So with the help from the doctor they both ran away, searching for people that needed (more like wanted) their help!

It's a little wierd but I hope atleast somone found this intresting!! It's all I could think about for days lol😭 if anyone wants to talk about it or just their own ST AUs I would be SO open for that PLS
