it's probably largely just that the shift to serial killer stuff is more generic/less in line with themes of everyday violence smoothed over by and holding up beautiful/classic/Normal exteriors

ohhh. this little speech jean is giving cooper seems like a linchpin (haha) to me. all the regular violence happening before and leading up to laura's murder was to the pov of the men setting up/continuing/benefitting from it not only NORMAL but NECESSARY and his presence/kindness/work toward unearthing and examining it honestly is (again to them) the only factor making things fall apart. if a girl dies alone in the woods and no one's there to see it, what difference does it make?

catching up to the gothic discourse prove my suspicions that a lot of people are afraid to wallow in discomfort when it comes to discussing heavier topics in the genre, without resorting to meme/shitpost talk. like, no, someone pointing out that count orlok assaulted ellen or lestat being abusive is not the same thing as being "puritans" or "an anti". neither does pointing out the racism in the genre. stop getting defensive when someone was being objective in their discussion, and not indulge in fanon rose tinted glasses.
