Taking the current topic as an excuse to ask you to tell me all the reasons you love Rarijack. Your art for the ship is so sweet and intimate I'd love to hear any in depth thoughts you have.

I think what makes their dynamic really strong is that they have opposing personalities but aligned values. It's deeper than just "opposites attract." Rarity's fancy, prissy, and femme while Applejack's modest, rough, and "masculine." But both value hard work (to the point of being workaholics), their families (both have guardianship over their little sisters), running successful businesses, and eventually each other. Their relationship can be boiled down to, "Despite our differences/disagreements, I still like you because we value the same things."

We see their relationship develop so much. In the first season, they can't stop bickering about surface-level differences. By season four, they still bicker, but will mend their relationship because they can't help but do nice things for each other. In Trade Ya, they start off arguing over personality differences (Applejack likes old junk and Rarity likes useless crap). Then they pivot and start arguing that they value their relationship more than the other. In the end, they mend things by sacrificing their needs and buying each other a gift. Even if they don't understand it, they know it'd make the other happy. And that's all that really matters. It's a genuinely sweet moment that shows how arguing can be healthy and necessary for relationships to strengthen.

We even see them dropping their hang-ups about each others' personalities. In Made in Manehattan, when Rarity runs off in dramatics about someone's fashion, AJ doesn't roll her eyes or scoff, she smiles. Oftentimes, their conflicts are very common domestic conflicts romantic couples face. Applejack's Day Off is about a woman's inability to balance work and life and find time to properly spend with her partner, causing her partner to feel neglected.

By season seven, they're actively participating in each others' interests. Any problems or conflicts that arise are dealt with, and they come out the other end stronger and closer. In Honest Apple, AJ pretty much spells out why their relationship works so well: even though she doesn't understand fashion, she can recognize and appreciate how much work it takes and wants to respect that. When she realizes her mistake in the episode, AJ goes above and beyond to fix things and apologize to Rarity. They care about each other so much.

The two go out of their way, sacrificing their personal desires and beliefs and doing things they normally wouldn't, to make the other happy. That's just love.

There's Simple Ways, where AJ gets stuck in an unwanted love triangle between Rarity and her hipster crush. And her frustration and anger can be so easily interpreted as AJ finding herself in a terrible position; the girl she loves wants another man, and that man wants her.

I dunno. I've always had a preference for opposites attract ships, but Rarijack's stuck with me like a brain worm because they have the perfect chemistry. The way they show they care, or do things for each other, I've always read it as the truest representation of romance in the show.

absolutely certain that helly is in fact helena is in disguise by this point and it was not a difficult thing to work out frankly but what absolutely knocks me on my ass is the REASON she's down there. after 2x01 we all assumed she was trojan horseing herself to spy on the rest of MDR and dissuade them from causing any more trouble. makes perfect sense right the fate of this company is in her hands. but NO!!! helena with her incredibly privileged spoiled brat outlook on everything, who has been told she's part of the most important lineage that's gonna save the world her whole life, sees a version of herself she heretofore did not even see as HUMAN forging the kinds of connections she has never had once in her life, and you think she's just gonna keep sending her down there and letting her have that? when she, the heiress of lumon and great granddaughter of kier, doesn't? she wants to experience what it's like to have no one expect anything of you, where you can express yourself however you want and kiss people just because you feel like it!! she views her innie as so far beneath her and yet she's so desperate for a taste of what it's like to be her! so much she's willing to KILL HER!! she's down there because she's fucking jealous of her innie!!! girl oh my god!!!!

Trying to write about how Kyoko and Homura being religious affects their characters but I'm not smart enough to make it coherent.

#im speaking purely from the experience of someone who was raised christian in brazil #but like #there's this weird emphasis on focusing on your duty to serve god #and homura does just that #she leaves everything behind to live for Madoka #at first to save her. then to honor her sacrifice. and then to save her again #kyoko on the other hand?#seems to have abandoned the idea of duty completely #and whike yes part of it is just a persona and she's actually pretty kind once you get to know her #she doesn't have something to devote herself to like Homura does #she lives for herself #something to note is that she talks to god before dying #but we never see homura praying or doing anything similar as far as i remember #implying kyoko believes in god but still chooses to live her life in a way that goes against her religious upbringing #and homura probably doesn't believe in god but still lives in this devoted way often assiciated with religion #except its towards madoka instead of the god she was taught about in her catholic school #literally 2 insane extremes of religious trauma #idk im rambling #puella magi madoka magica #madoka magica #pmmm #kyoko sakura #homura akemi #religion #religious trauma #pmmm analysis

stg, being an enjoyer of jane twdg is like being forced into an expert-level course on the way misogyny manifests in video game spaces.

god forbid a woman be complex or difficult or provably mischaracterized (see tags) at the end of her arc to service the culmination of a man’s storyline.

#“kenny was harrowed by loss in his family” so was jane. that is part of them literally being foils.#“kenny teaches clem more!” literally untrue a lot of clem’s combat style is rooted in what jane taught her (targeting the knees & basically #everything clem knows about knife combat- jane is also mirrored with lee in this sense as like was previously stated knife combat later goe #on to become a major element of how clem fights only outweighed by her use of firearms)#she teaches clem the gut trick & we see the innovative thinking that comes with being more independent & proactive influence the way clem #handles sticky situations & deals with feeling disempowered. like this is going to sound odd but the fact that her behaviour mirrors jane #at her best (even though her relationship with aj is more maternal the way she approaches him much more as an equal & capable of holding #agency over his own life is much more reminiscent of the way she was treated by jane & luke positively + the rest of the adults negatively #than how kenny or even lee treated clem [though lee did start to view her this way after the train] + her people reading skill.) & at her #worst (isolating herself + becoming cold + the fact she is [based on player choice] willing to leave aj behind for both their survival +#struggling with her need for community vs her sense of distrust in their lasting stability + her tendency to be unfeelingly pragmatic to a #fault except when it comes to aj + the fact that clem- at her worst is self-serving & somewhat uncaring in comparison to kenny’s possessive #hot-headedness etc) indicates that on some level- regardless of a player’s second season ending- clem considered jane to be a better #behavioural role model- this isn’t to say kenny was unimpactful but rather that his impact was different- where behaviourally we see elemen #of lee luke jane & even carver in clem’s later behaviour kenny’s impact is more so that of a cautionary tale- somebody clem cared for who #she witnessed lose himself entirely to his worst character flaws due to an inability to cope with the world she now lives in- something he #even admits to her in multiple endings iirc. kenny becomes the fate clem must strive against at all costs.#similar can be said of the ending where you go with jane regarding how it analogies clem’s fears & low self worth as a result of being #unable to maintain what she had with aj (in a manner that mirrors jane’s story in that she’s choosing to leave behind a living relative due #to no longer being able to be what they need- again depending on player choice*)#*my exact memory of the third season is hazier tbh. iirc it is dependent on player choice whether she is complacent with the decision to #make her leave the new frontier.#like the way the ending was handled was sloppy & jane was mischaracterized as a result of being shoved into a conflict that we know for #certain was not intended to go to her. calm down & just enjoy your man without being weird & misogynistic dear god.)#(also if you like clem & jane you will like holly robinson & selina kyle dc)#twdg jane #jane twdg #twdg

Remember George's outline notes that had "joy of giving" and "mercy at the gate" for Arya? Mercy is crossed out and we obviously have that as her sample chapter, so what if Arya's next alias is "Joy"? Over-thinking the significance of that phrase and how it could apply to the rest of her Braavos arc🤔

Something I've noticed is even from really early on Cabby cares a lot about what others think about her. It's most notable by as early as Snapshot Showdown that she cares a lot about coming across as kind and approachable, and it makes it unfortunately very unsurprising that her fawning issues got to the point they did post-rejoin :(

That insistence and overcompensation that she wanted the files to help her team, because she knows she had left a bad impression on Fan and Test Tube. Trying to show how much she knows and cares about her teams' interests by ordering their favorite foods. Even just from looking at that you can see how that could go haywire after sufficient rejection, and I can't imagine a worse rejection than her entire team hating her and thinking she's evil after getting betrayed by whom she thought was a friend.
