so... my interpretation of guide!reader may be vastly different from others but with my vast assimilation of yours and others content, this is my variation of the one I like envisioning involving concepts such as yours (Humans are NOT Hylians and Guide!Reader) so this is my official start to the ramblings *DEEP INHALE*

when I read the post about reader losing their sord and just punching the monsters and it is working along with the other links being amazed

I imagine that because of the fact that hylian's are so light that they didn't put that much into the growth of physical arts

they can punch and kick fine but that's more so used for scraps agents one another, rather than in fights against monsters

hylian's don't have enough strength or weight to have it be worth it on the battlefield

its much more worth their time and energy to learn things like swordsmanship or artery, and be nimble

but guide dose have: the muscle, weight, durability and training necessary for such a strategy to be worth it

It would be more effective for the reader to use the Muay Thai and Taekwondo they worked so hard on instead of learning something new

Second chance III (part IV)

You were nearing your due date and it was starting to show. You were extremely uncomfortable. No matter what you did - stood, sat, laid - it was all uncomfortable so you were constantly turning and moving. And that only made you more tired.

Lucien had taken over most of Helion's work. He had offered one evening when he found you crying in the kitchen quietly because you were missing your husband who had once again been held up in a meeting. Stress wasn't good at this stage of pregnancy and so Lucien was determined to take all the negative triggers away.

So the two of them had mastered the art of taking care of you. There was no one they trusted more than one another when it came to you. So if not Helion, then Lucien was with you and visa-versa.

You had woken up extremely uneasy this morning. You couldn't put a finger as to what felt off but it was unsettling. You brushed it off to the fact that Helion wasn't in bed. That man barely slept lately. You had scolded him about it but even if he agreed you knew that not much was going to change. Rubbing your hands over your now big bump you made your way downstairs. Multiple servants greeted you but you brushed them off. The last thing you needed was to feel cornered by them now.

Lucien was sitting in the living room. A cup in his hand as he read some document. You let out a sigh of discomfort as you wobbled down the stairs. Hating the change of gravity in your body. Within a blink of an eye, Lucian was out of his chair, walking your way.

"How are we feeling this morning?", he had given up on trying to convince you to take it easy by now. "Like there's a head between my legs", Lucien's eyes widened as he looked at you and you couldn't help but chuckle slightly, "There's no head there... yet. Just feeling tight all over". The relief washed over Lucien as he walked you closer to the sofa but you stopped midway.

"Come on a walk with me. I need to move my body", you held onto his hand but you can see the disapproval on his face. "Let me at least warm up your back for a bit, it'll soothe the ache", oh that you could have moaned in delight at. Lucien's fire fingers had been a true blessing. Your back had given up on you mid-pregnancy. You couldn't move because it was too much strain for your body but not moving was not healthy too. So Lucien had turned into your massage expert, his warm fingers digging into the sore muscles in your hack. Oh, that fanthom heat lingering even with him not being present.

"After the walk. I just feel disgusting", you muttered, you moved one of your hands beneath your bump to give it that extra support. Lucien nodded, wrapping a supportive arm around your lower back and taking your hand with his free one. You flashed him a smile as you felt the warmth from him seeping into your body.

You two had grown closer through the months. You already saw him as your son and the fact that he had turned to you multiple times when he needed help with dates and things regarding Elain made your heart fluster. He had called you mother once. It was the heat of the moment because he had found you nearly climbing the linen closet for a baby blanket. But there was such pure concern there. You had cupped his face softly after, promising him that you weren't mad and that in his own time, he was more than welcome to call you his mom.

The gardens were in full bloom. Helion was constantly saying that his daughter was going to be the most beautiful little flower girl if she chose to enter the world in the mid-bloom season. That itself made you lean more towards the names that associated with different flowers. It felt fitting. But you two hadn't fully decided. Wanted to see her first before granting her a name she would have to carry for the rest of her life.

The fresh air instantly made you feel better. The warm sun helped too, even if it didn't stand a chance against Lucien's warmth. His steps were slow as he walked with you. The tightness in your stomach made you still as you huffed slightly. Lucien instantly held onto you firmer. "I'm fine just... your sister is scheming something", you rubbed at the painfully tight skin, waiting for the muscles to ease. "I pray she won't be as stubborn as Eris at least", Lucien muttered making you smile. The oldest Vanserra had become rather frequent visitor as well. Sure the family line there was thin but he was happy for Lucien and well also just as desperate for a girl to enter that bloodline. Now you had two rather abandoned foxes roaming your house.

"As if you aren't stubborn yourself, fireheart", you teased him. Lucien rolled his eyes, "If you're comparing me to yourself, I'm dead last", you playfully slapped his arm. Until another wave of pain shoots through you making you hold onto Lucien stronger. Just this tightness was accompanied by a light pop and then a warm liquid trickling down your legs. It damped the deep green sleeping gown that you were wearing indicating to Lucien just what was happening.

"Lu...", you muttered in fear, suddenly it was all too real. This baby was coming and you, you would have to push her out. There was no backing down now. "Breath through it", he said calmly, sensing the panic within you, "Just focus on breathing now", his strong arms quickly reached to pick you up, carefully rushing back inside where the chaos quickly spiked.

You had no clue how long you had been moaning in pain, hair damp with sweat, sheets ripped from all the pulling you had been doing. Helio hadn't returned yet meaning that you were more than worried especially because you couldn't reach him through the bond. But Lucien was there, snarling at any healer who tried to usher him out of the room, "You focus on your part, I'll focus on mine", he barked at them.

"What if he's dead?", you cried out as another contraction ripped through your body, "Mom...", Lucien pleaded, "Father is not dead. He got held up by some stupid fuck", he placed a cold damp cloth onto your forehead softly, "He's going to be here. He won't miss this for life". You looked up into his soft eyes, which had been monitoring you ever since he carried you to your chambers.

Your screams filled Helion's ears and he had never run up the stairs faster in his life. Shoving past the guards as he yanked the door open. The meeting he got urgently swept into was a trap. He and Rhys took care of it. There was no threat now just the fact that he had missed the start of this was already eating at him.

Healers were urging you to push but he could tell from the cries leaving your lips that you were losing your strength. Helion quickly rounded the corner. Lucien was holding onto you. One arm wrapped around your back as he tried to save you from the struggle of pulling yourself up for every push. His fingers were nearly purple from how tight you were gripping them but the boy said nothing, only watching you with concerned eyes. His gaze met Helion's and the male could see a wave of relief washing over him.

Quickly coming to your side, Helion too draped his arm over your shoulder, before reaching for your free hand that was aimlessly wrapped around the pillow. "Helion", you cried out, "I'm here my light, I'm with you now. I'm sorry I wasn't there to start with", his lips left a couple of warm kisses at the side of your head. He didn't care about all of the sweat. None of that mattered. All he cared about was for you two to be safe.

Just life had other plans. You were growing weaker with every push but the baby just didn't want to come. Helion had fully taken the place behind your back now, but Lucien still held your hand, now focusing on changing the cold cloth. Your head lulled back after yet another push. Helion's praises filled your ears but they barely reached you now. The healer looked among themselves quickly, worry so evident on their faces.

The two males caught onto that quickly. "What is it?", Helion asked, chest growling tight as the worst fear slowly unfolded in front of him. They said nothing for some time until Lucien practically roared, "Speak! This involves my mother and my sister, speak!", the females flinched.

"The baby... baby might be breached", one of them muttered, "Lady, is also losing a lot of blood we need to speed this up". Helion's face drained of color. If he was going to lose you... If you were going to... Lucien noticed the change of mood in the room. Your sobs were threatening too, "I can't do this", you moaned. But Lucien refused to let that settle in. He had already lost so much. Been robbed of so much.

He clasped the back of Helion's neck tightly, bringing his father closer to him so their eyes met, "Scrap whatever that's going in your head now. She needs you alert and strong", Helion's eyes took flame at those words. With a quick nod, he turned back at you. The two of them pulled you up. The healer wanted you on your knees at least. The help of gravity was just one more factor they wanted to use to their advantage.

Helion was now firmly supporting your weight as you squatted between his legs, screaming at the top of your lungs as you pushed. Lucien more than even wished that he could do more than just soothe some of the pain with his fire. With so many healers all around you now he couldn't ever hold your hand.

"It's working, I feel the baby", one of the healers said. "Come on, dearest, I know you can do this", Helion muttered into your ear, "You'll get to hold her soon. She'll be right here". You gritted your teeth as you pulled the last bits of strength from your body. Pushing and pushing, till everything around you turned into an unrecognizable blur.

All until a cry pierced the room. A strong cry of someone who had just been robbed of a never-ending warmth and brought into this way cooler room. "What a set of strong lungs", the healer quickly wrapped the babe into the blanket. Helion moved to kiss the side of your head, and shoulders, bringing your palm to his lips as happy tears ran down his cheeks, "I'm so proud of you, thank you, thank you", he muttered. Just you said nothing, he didn't feel a breath of relief leaving your lips. Pulling you slightly to the side in hopes of catching your eyes, Helion felt your head slip off his shoulder. Bile rose in his throat and the chaos erupted once more.

Healers were all around you, no one was answering Helion's questions. Lucien pushed closer to the bed that you were once again dragged onto. The sight of blood all over the bed made him feel sick. He wondered if any of this by any chance could be normal. He tried to pull all the stories Feyre had shared about her births. Nothing matched up except the time she almost died.

Someone quickly shoved a bundle of material into his arms. Lucien could hear Helion shouting your name. More females rushed through the door, he caught a glimpse of Madja among them. Then a light sniff caught his attention. Lucien carefully moved the side of the material. And here in his arms laid the most beautiful baby he had ever laid eyes on. Her big eyes scarcely looked at him with cheeks still bright pink from all the crying. So Lucien pressed her closer to his chest, slipping out of the room and taking her away from all of the chaos.

I wanna know about your art style. How you draw like that??

i tried putting down considerations as well as a (very) general step by step of what i do; if there's anything more specific you want me to explain lmk i guess?

first off, general (self imposed) constraints / purpose of project -- this informs what i draw & how i draw it

i.e. "kuradex" is pretty different from my normal art (my 5 latest rough illustrations):

although i've said its for merch purposes, ive started drawing these because i wanted to practice conveying "liveliness" and noticing key features / nuances of a given design, but i didn't want to spend a large amount of time on each one.

so what i came up with is

i want to draw things on-model in terms of proportions ( + take note of weight / tapering of shapes / etc )

no backgrounds & minimal "props"

experiment with / practice line/texture/color/flow/rhythm/etc

spend <1 hr on each pokemon on average (this is a bit more difficult for me to track, but for example, the cyndaquil line took me less than 42min to color, combined, and means at some point in time instead of focusing on cleaning up the art as much as i can, i stop after cleaning up most of it)

that said, the pose & the rhythm/flow of lines are key in conveying liveliness, and if i have a concept in mind i usually end up going with it, but i may go thru a few if i dont.

i consider pokemon origin / lore or a key point in its design, and if i'm particularly stuck, i try looking up pokemon card illustrations for inspiration. (i noticed the research i do is essentially a truncated version of how Atsushi Furusawa does research before doing an illustration.

(& even despite all this i do get stuck sometimes and don't exactly understand a pokemon and just opt for "as cute or cool as i can make it i guess?", but i think it's part of the process...?) (theoretically things that are A Shape should be really easy to draw but with what i want to practice in perspective i find them difficult...)

this is from my latest paid req but these are my first sketches of chesnaught -- i was thinking of how one of its inspirations is a warrior / tanker from RPGs, so i drew a pose where it's shielding its face.

i do another pass and take note of details.

in general i draw overlapping shapes and erase (it's a bit visible on one of the spikes)

because i opt for quickness i start coloring at this point -- i just use a colored "color burn" sketch layer for the "lineart" & colorpick official art & lay down messy flats & set the color layer to 60%

60% multiply layer for shadows. i tend to use both hard and soft brushes

for bigger projects i would use 2-3 shadow layers to create more "layered" shadows

here i use overlay layer (60%). this is just throwing colors at it and seeing what works and doesn't work. i personally prefer to throw red under the eye and a yellow or blue near the top of the head. this is mostly done with a soft brush

before this point, everything is under the rough lines, but now i start drawing/painting over it

i just color pick the colors that have been laid down from the previous steps and clean up / render textures (making the green on its arms look fuzzy) / fixing anything that i forgot or looks too off (i.e. the spike on its shoulder and the way the tail curves)

I could potentially keep cleaning this up, but this is where i usually stop 🫡

DAY 1:

today i was to start writing about my findings about the state of the world following the worldwide destruction of the war, in effort to keep myself sane in the desolate wasteland. instead, during my travel into the city to find supplies, i found a child.

a little girl. her skin is pale, a blue-grey not unlike my own. i fear she may be sick. she is terrified, underneath her mask of bravery. she jumps at any sudden sound outside of camp and it makes my heart ache. i had given her a doll, a bear. i think? i had hoped it would calm her, and i am grateful it did. we had talked for a while, in the rubble of that toystore. i think she had been alone for a while before i had found her. she kept looking at me like i'd disappear...

she is the first person i have come into contact with since the world ended. i dont know who is luckier,

Modern AU Headcanons

For all 7 of my ocs!! :3

all of their ethnicities/nationalities are canon to the ALNST universe too, but theyre just more applicable in a modern au.

The artwork I did for each of them isnt fully colored like how i originally planned, simply because this took FUCKING FOREVER. (17 hours??? all 7 ocs just to this basic color with 17 hours and 25k strokes??? according to procreate???) and i was so ready to be done with it, ive been talking about this for like ages and i knew that if i didnt finish this before Blink Gone dropped,,,, itd never get finished.

i also have other stuff i need/want to work on in regards to my ocs SO. if the art looks half-assed, im calling it a design choice 🎀

Toki (Redone):

He'd be a dancer that runs a choreography channel on youtube and tiktok. A really popular/famous content creator.

He's Asian! (South Korean)

Fluent in English/Korean.

Would probably face a lot of controversy for making strange jokes about cannibalism, but he never stays down when cancelled. (hes so schlatt core)

He's not a horrible person in a modern au. He's relatively normal, if not for the fact that he is still an orphan and still clinically mentally ill. He's just not toxic. He still has his cunt and freak but... he just doesn't manipulate, mansplain, and manslaughter anymore.

He's only toxic and awful as hell in ALNST because of the dystopian circumstances. His toxicity is seasoning to the tragedy that is ALNST.

He is still an orphan and his first memories would be in the orphanage where he was pretty much alone. People thought he was strange.

I'd like to believe he was selectively mute for quite a long time, which was another reason why people called him strange.

Still has the habit of studying peoples behaviors and learning them entirely for his own benefit. He wouldn't use it against someone unless absolutely necessary in a modern au.

He gets adopted when he's 13 by a kind, older man. He homeschools Toki and puts him in sports and recreational activities of his choice.

Toki chooses gymnastics and dance, contorting and moving his body at his will gives him a sense of control that he always felt he was never privileged to.

He didn't start talking until he was 16. His first words were, "Thank you, dad."

As an adult, as I said above, Toki runs a choreo channel on tiktok and youtube that gets a lot of traction. He enjoys having fans because it makes him feel less alone.

He's still possessive over Inna, but it's only because Toki struggles with feeling a sense of belonging and a home to come back to, and Inna becomes that home for him.

He has a streetwear aesthetic!

Of course, Toki still has his obsessive and possessive personality, that will never go away. It ends up rearing his head towards Inna, but I'm pretty sure Inna likes it anyway, the 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓴.

Didn't go to college because his socmed took off before he graduated, sustaining him really well financially.

Friends with Ichor! Travels to Korea with him sometimes, but usually prefers to stay in America since that's where he was taken to when he was adopted.

His right eye is a lazy eye and he wears glasses. They're silver round frames that he sometimes puts a neck chain on.

His hair is dyed the same, but the dark brown is really short and cut to be fluffy/messy while keeping his long sides/short bangs!

He has a dark academia aesthetic mixed with a little bit of cottagecore. He's a lot more comfortable in his skin in regards to his gender so he wears skirts and dresses sometimes.

Spends his time at the library a lot, enjoys library dates with Aster (and also coffee shop dates).

He is fluent in Spanish and English.

He only has his ear lobes pierced and keeps small silver studs in them at all times.

Still trans, of course! He gets top surgery and a hysterectomy in a modern au (projecting what I personally want lmao)

All of his siblings are alive, and are still all named after flowers!

His upbringing was really peaceful, if not for having a very alive and loud household with 6 kids, him included.

His parents and siblings are all incredibly accepting and they all helped pitch in to get his top surgery done for his birthday one year <3

He inherited his parents flower shop and runs it now! His parents own the parent company to the flower shop, so all 6 children own one of said shops around the state!

He majored in Biology in college.

A lot of the neglect and trauma he faced in ALNST/ANAKT was only specific to the universe. He would lead a relatively normal and peaceful life, otherwise :)

He is American!

Horizon is incredibly smart and is an astrophysicist! He took it in college and has been hyperfixated on space since he was a kid.

Is the most visibly/recognizably autistic OC out of all of my OCs. All of my OCs are neurodivergent in some way because of my own neurodivergency, but Horizon takes the cake because his modern au mother (based on Scorpius) is also autistic. She raised him to not be forced into a mask.

Scorpius is a single mom and loves space as well, teaching Horizon all about it when he was a kid. Over time she grew more distant and would only connect with her son when its about his interest in space, or in regards to what happens at NASA.

Horizon is aware of his mothers distance and neglect and wishes things could go back to when he was a kid and she wasn't so distant.

He is still a narcolept, but is medicated and in physical therapy to help combat it.

He works at NASA! He makes good money and has discovered a lot of new stars!

He's more vocal in a modern au! He'd still go nonverbal a lot, but he'd also open up more and be less distant.

He still yaps about stars and space as much as possible.

He does not have stars in his eyes. I kinda feel like that goes without saying, but he does have dark grey-blue eyes.

Fond of Seraph and likes to study it. Fully aware something is wrong with it and that it definitely does not belong in his world, but finds it intriguing all the same.

Does not have a set dress style, he mostly dresses for comfort. He does have a lot of NASA merchandise and space/galaxy themed clothing, though. (would 100% have that blue and pink galaxy wolf hoodie at one point)

Seraph:

Still not human, and I will not elaborate as to why!

Also still uses He/Hy/It (Hy/Hymn).

It's a lot creepier in a modern au, actually. This is because the dystopian setting of ALNST makes it a bit more... usual and acceptable for Seraph to be uncanny? However, in a modern au... that's not the case.

People do NOT vibe with it more often than not.

Hy is British.

He is still albino with void-like eyes.

It majors in psychology and went to the same college as Horizon. This is related to his special talent,,, but that isn't released yet. :)

Still horribly enamored with Horizon and follows him around and studies him.

Horizon doesn't mind hymn and honestly knows somethings not right with Seraph, but he doesn't really care and actually likes to study Seraph back. (and seraph couldnt be happier about it, tbh)

Not a lot changes about Seraph, in all honesty. Hy doesn't really belong in the ALNST universe, what makes you think hy'd belong in the modern universe?

The things that do change, like it's echoing voice and it's staticky/distorted laugh, are gone because it personally stopped using them.

It's style is... elegant goth with some... cyber goth? Kinda strange and hard to describe but he does understand the morals and values of goth culture and music and upholds those values.

He is Horizon's roommate.

Seraph likes to believe their mutual studying of each other is what a romantic relationship entails.

Horizon spoils Seraph a lot... he has to do something with the money he gets from NASA.

He still does not like animals or Ichor.

Ichor:

He is still a catboy. He's not even like... a kemonomimi. He's just a fucking catboy.

If not an actual catboy, he would be a therian and/or kemonomimi. (kemonomimi directly translates to animal ears i believe? kemonomimis are just people who enjoy wearing animal ears/tails.)

He is also Asian! (South Korean)

Has a lot of mixed aesthetics, but enjoys crossdressing (in a cute way) and ouji fashion/lolita.

Would actually be friends with Toki!! Both as a content creator and as a gymnast. They would get along very well due to overlapping interests, even more so when Ichor learns that Toki was mute for a long time.

She is Creole and born and raised in Louisiana!

Fluent in both Cajun French and normal French. She was a French immersion kid! (as in she learned french as she learned english in school growing up)

An amazing cook and loves to cook for her family and friends.

Has a brother and a sister, but she is the oldest. She loves her family and is very protective over them, same with her friends.

A big party-goer and social butterfly, she is the life and light of the party. She stays humble about it, but she can't deny how nice it makes her feel that people like her so much.

Dominates karaoke like it's no ones business. She loves singing and was in the church choir growing up.

She grew up Catholic, but is currently Agnostic.

Still a lesbian, and is very open about it. She is a strong advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and goes to as many Pride Parades as possible during pride month.

Is a lot less morally grey in a modern au and is a lot more like Luna Lovegood, one of her inspirations.

His morality in ALNST comes from the dystopian setting, being used as a toy for the segyein after winning, and being a pet in general. Since that doesn't happen in the modern day, he doesn't have that trauma to influence him.

She takes second place on most visibly autistic. (Ichor takes third)

Majored in Chemistry and wants to be a chemist.

Has overlapping classes with Clove and is friends with him!

Comes from a pretty wealthy family and was raised prim and proper. Her parents believed she'd be better off presenting as a boy, but once she realized her autonomy, she refused it entirely and told her parents that she will live how she wants and that her body is hers to dictate.

Her parents don't like that she switches back and forth between masc and femme, but she could not give less of a fuck and honestly does it a little bit out of spite.

He still loves his parents... kinda. He has the mentality of "they gave me life and raised me, I should be grateful andlove them all the same." He just wishes they weren't so bitchy over his body and what he does with it. They can't say anything either considering he plans on being a chemist, and they're both very fond of the idea that their child is smart and will bring in more money.

They're also lowkey homophobic and only give Lys a pass because they see Everest as a boy more often than not. They still don't quite like Lys because she is a full lesbian/sapphic and sees Ever as femme.

basically treats you like his own kid but hes never been a dad before so hes still learning; torn between him being over protective of you or thinking you're indestructible (which... technically you are as long as youre in the digital world). i think he finds your sweetness adorable, though if theres someone in the circus being mean to you (surprisingly i dont think jax would be too mean. a little bit of a butt? yeah but its not much different than an older brother picking on their younger sibling) i think he would pipe up and not shut up until you get an apology. starts watching IHAs more now that you're here, both to see how youre doing but also to make sure its not too crazy for you.. cant help but let the big scary monster/trial pass when you run up to it being nice. literally just snaps the thing out of existence/away/wherever. loves seeing the look of triumph on your face afterwards

POMNI:

nice towards you and probably over time keeps a closer eye on you but in the beginning i think its more like. you following her like a duckling since shes busy trying to find an exit. honestly i think pomni would have a hard time when it sinks in that theres a little kid here in the circus. how did you get here? when did you get here? i think thats what would prompt her in trying to connect with you, thus you gain another guardian figure! sticking true my idea of pomni being uneasy around kids because they can be gross and have no filter and be unpredictable i think at first she would be a little... tense around you, but overtime becomes more comfortable when she realizes youre not like that. definitely going to take a while, though.. shrugs

GANGLE:

definitely finds you sweet, lets you hang around in her room and mess with her art supplies. probably cries harder when you try to make her feel better after jax does something, usually something that leaves her with a broken comedy mask. i dont think she would let you confront jax about it, though... she appreciates the sentiment but shes not about to make it look like she sent a little kid to defend her, thats only going to give jax even more ammo even if you stood up for her on your own. sometimes lets you put stickers on her mask or glitter... ponders.. i think she reads stories to you too, every night

ZOOBLE:

i think ive already said this before but zooble gives off such older sibling energy, and i cant really explain it other than its just the personality and looks... but i guess that doesnt explain much. shrugs. sweet younger sibling, cool but indifferent older sibling. or at least you think theyre cool. and you tell them every chance you guy. i think they would just give a weird "thaaanks.." the first few times before fully leaning into the older sibling role. dont get me wrong like before they wouldnt just leave you wandering around alone during an IHA, hell i dont think they would there wasnt one going on.. but they wouldnt go out of their way to hang out with you.. but eventually they just kind of keep a closer eye on you. check in on you. ask what youre up to. theyre not attached to you by the hip but theyre definitely present in your life as a role model. tries to make you be less nice, gives you the talk that not everyone is nice and sometimes some people fake being nice in order to get what they want. but in kid terms, obviously... well not little kid terms i still think zooble would be blunt but they wouldnt be harsh

sorry if youve talked about this before, but do you have any tips relating to your coloring process? i ADOREE the way you render things and it looks soso cool and once i saw a post where you said your art typically only took a couple hours and i was in SHOCK. cuz ive been working on a yuji piece that has a similarish (not really but idk how to describe it…) coloring style and ive been working at it for. about a month now…sorry this is rambly i hope u have a good day!!!

hi!!! first of all thank you so much I'm happy you like the way I render! honestly it Is still the aspect of drawing that takes the longest for me, I've only recently started to come up with ways to streamline my process (mainly through keeping my layers/brushes limited and overall being less anal about details) . these days my average drawing does take about 2.5-4 hours I'd say, with Big Illustrations obviously being the exception

i wouldn't beat yourself up too much about taking longer to finish a drawing tho ! it took me. a While to learn how to speed up and honestly my biggest piece of advice is loosen up and let certain things look imperfect or unfinished ! and if you're like i was and want to work at getting faster then i would recommend practicing churning out sketchy/rough pieces and see what tricks and habits you can implement or adjust to save time

all that being said I realize haven't done an updated overview of my colouring/rendering process so I guess this can be that ! I'll put it under the cut because i too like to ramble and this Will get long

lineart and base colour/underpainting

my lineart is nearly Always on multiply. it helps the lines stand out less starkly against the colours and makes it so that I don't have to change the colour of as many sections of lines later on

the base colour layer is honestly completely optional, tbh i sometimes skip it so you don't Have to have one but i like it for a few reasons: - I like to keep all my colours on the same layer so if i'm going for a painterly style this serves as an underpaint layer of sorts . having this means that when i paint, whatever colour i have here will blend with all the other colours i use and help them look cohesive - even if I'm not painting, i still like to work with all my colours on the same layer and it helps me make sure I'm not missing any spots, which helps when it comes time to section individual areas off in the next steps

2. flats

lock transparency button my beloved . this makes it so that you're only able to paint on areas where there is Already colour (which is where having an underpaint layer comes in handy)

not much else to say about this step, just choosing colours rly !

3. shading

here's where the fun starts ! since i'm working all on one layer, i use the wand or lasso tool to section off whatever area I want to work on, then go in with (usually) one of the three brushes below: from left to right 1. my favourite dry brush that i use to cover large areas, it has an amazing dry paint stroke-y texture and i use it in everything. great for skin/clothes/hair/fur/organic material...she does it all 2. smaller, blendier/smoother brush that I use to soften out the rougher edges left by the first brush. I find it's really good for hair and small clothing creases 3. rough pen brush that I use to add little bits of flavour in the form of crosshatches or stray lines, usually to hint at individual hair strands! I also use it to line sometimes but I'm using it less for that recently

also, since the lineart layer is set to multiply, it's super easy to colour directly under the lines on my colour layer and use that as a way to make certain lines Darker . it's most obvious at the eyelashes and under the jaw but I do it everywhere

4. finishing touches and texture overlay

here I add another layer above the multiply/lineart layer and use it to add highlights and other details! this is also the layer i use to paint directly on top of any areas that got messy or need extra definition

my texture overlay of choice is just a rough monochrome static file that I got on the csp assets page but use whatever you'd like tbh ! set the layer mode to overlay and adjust the opacity to your liking (I also like to rasterize the layer to make it easier to work with but it's not too consequential if you skip that step since you're basically done by this point anyway)

And done ! slap a signature on that bad boy and send it <3

hiiii nonnie!!! thank you for checking in, and im happy u like the stuff i put out!! when it comes to ages, it's difficult to answer sometimes bc of the way professor tolkien's timeline is-- it makes gauging one singular place where most of the cast can be compared something that makes my tired brain go 😵🤧🤕 but i love the prompt youve given! and thus heres my attempt at it

with most of my tolkien stuff, i always try to stick to canon wherever possible emphasis is on try lmao and the topic of ages is one such place. i do make exceptions to the Professor's canon sometimes for a few reasons: 1) i like some of the scrapped ideas in his drafts, or 2) i just prefer other options. with ages, i think the only charas with canon-established ages i deviated from are fingolfin, finrod, turgon, and aredhel. i try to keep cases like these minimal tho, so i hope it doesn't bother anyone too much... 👉👈

anyways i figured just dropping a list of numbers would be kinda boring to look at so heres an illustrated guide to what the ~rough~ ages of the finweans are in my head whenever i write or draw. Y.T. 1495 (the year Finwe dies) is the controlled medium ive used to enable a fair comparison of the Finweans

the First Age gets a lot more muddled from there due to the hullaballoo of everything going on, so ill only be including the doriathrim and a few other denizens of nargothrond:

it's mostly the older elves that are more undefined/vague with their ages (i.o.w. others like elwing, earendil, the peredhil twins, and most Men all have set dates of birth), so they're all i'll be doing for now. but it's that vagueness which makes hcing all the more enjoyable, isn't it! plus since we’re on this subject, under the cut are just a few headcanons and musings ive had that i wanted to put somewhere 😙

Finarfin and Earwen were born within months of each other! Finwe and Olwe made a Really Big Deal out of when they found out their wives were pregnant at the same time. As a result, the two were often sent on many playdates with each other to “bolster healthy relations” between the Noldor and the Teleri. It wasn’t an arranged marriage situation, but I like to think they were goofy for each other from the start… Resulting in the two eventually getting married as soon as they came of age, the fastest out of all of Finwe’s kids to do so. 

The reason the Ambarussa are significantly younger than the other Finweans (especially the Feanorians-- there’s a 100 Valian year gap between them and Curufin alone!) is because I imagine they were accidental babies that even Feanor didn’t expect to conceive. too bad morgoth said "its morgin time!" and started Messing Things Up shortly afterwards.....

Anaire was Lalwen's good friend long before she married Fingolfin; they met through Lalwen who wingmanned Fingolfin the whole time. i like think Anaire'd be the best out of all the wives at keeping good, healthy bonds with all the women of her family :DD

luthien's potential 姐姐/big sis dynamic with all the younger doriathrim elves is something i daydream about a lot 😌 but sometimes the fact that she's older than finarfin keeps me up at night
