Everything's so damn dark when the blindfold slips off that for a second she can't see a thing.

Don't panic. Don't scream. Don't hurt the baby.

Something groans at her feet and she startles straight into the pipe behind her head.

"'lo?" A voice asks, familiar enough to give her pause, and she wonders for a moment if this is a joke, if this is a trick, if this - "s'there?"

His words are slurred. A concussion, maybe, then. Great. Biggest man she knows and he's gonna be a useless pile of puke to her.

Don't panic, Maddie reminds herself, and then she starts giggling.

"Tommy?"

He groans an affirmative.

"Oh good. I feel a lot better about getting overpowered, now."

A hand grabs for her ankle and Maddie bites back a scream. It's Tommy's hand, big and warm and - fully unbound, which feels a little unfair. "Cunt drugged me," he says, then pauses. Squeezes her ankle. "Sorry for the language."

"No, it's, uh - I think it's warranted this time."

Maddie can't remember exactly how it'd happened to her. Had she been hit? Is she injured? She does a mental tally. Her lip feels swollen. Nose and eyes feel fine, though, so maybe she bit it? Neck, shoulders, all good. She's been bending her elbows and wrists just fine, she just doesn't have the leverage to do anything about the zip ties keeping her affixed to the probably pipe behind her. Hips, legs, knees. She wiggles her toes and in the darkness Tommy chuckles. "Everything accounted for?"

He must have done his own check while she was working through hers. She can hear him rustling around. "I'm still incredibly mad at you, but it's nice to hear your voice," she says, and Tommy goes still. "Tommy? All good?"

"...why are you mad at me?"

"Like you don't know?" Oh. Actually maybe she is more mad than she is glad. "You broke my brother's heart, idiot. I don't have any more room in my entire house for the coping mechanism he's come up with." She kicks, a little. Tommy grunts and shifts. "I hope that hit something painful and non-essential to our escape."

"He's - he'll be fine."

"What exactly is your definition of fine? Because it's been a few months and he's still bringing me baked goods on a bi-weekly basis."

"Bi-weekly like -."

"Do not get pedantic on me, Kinard. Two times a week. What's your status? Moving parts all still moving?"

"I think my balls have taken a vacation, but that's more a reflection on how terrifying you are than on this current situation."

Flippant. Sarcasm in the face of Maddie trying to get a full picture. Buck had called him funny and charming. Maddie's second kick doesn't land, but only because he's got a hand wrapped around her foot. "Once we're out of here, I'm gonna punch you in the face."

He hums. "For the balls comment, or the cunt thing?"

Maddie shrugs. Remembers that he can't see it. "Which part of 'broke my brother's heart' are you not getting?"

He sounds like he's moving gingerly. She can hear heavy bulky fabric rustle and she wonders if he's in three layers like usual. She could use something warm. "I - figured he'd be over it by now."

Maddie snorts. If she had to make a guess, Tommy glowers at the noise. "Dumbass."

And then it hits her. "The cunt? Skinny, brunette, pretty? Kind of...angular face?"

Tommy hums and takes her weight as she tries to kick again. "Sounds like her."

"Oh, Buck's gonna be pissed and embarrassed. She's rebound attempt number two."

Tommy's silent long enough that Maddie has to check in. He hums, and goes back to silence. "Rebound attempt?"

"If you hadn't noticed, we've actually been kidnapped, so maybe I can save your relationship afterwards?"

"I think she was trying to kill me," Tommy admits. "Otherwise why am I unbound in this shitty Saw knockoff?"

Maddie feels some extra pieces dropping into place. Oh, Buck is never gonna live this down actually.

"Can you overpower her if she comes in?"

"If she's not quick to try to drug me again. If I can figure out where the fucking door is. If -."

"A yes or no is fine. Pretty sure she's the Bay Butcher, if that helps you answer."

His pause is long. "...maybe," he says, and accepts the kick this time without block or protest.

SO, okay, a part 7!

YES, I am SO GLAD the way Frodo is NOT having a great or easy time came across! I’d hoped that would work! It can be hard, when your body changes and suddenly you’re not capable of the same stuff you were. I was trying to convey that kind of dysphoria.

Maedhros! Maedhros is HAVING A DAY. A good day! A MIRACULOUSLY GOOD DAY.

The kind of good day he can barely trust is REAL bc, lbr, he hasn’t really had a good day innnn. Um. Lets just say a long time. So this is the kind of day that has him covertly running mental checks just to make sure this is still reality. He keeps counting Maglor’s freckles and running his finger tips over his horse and her tack, and the tooling on his belt and faulds just to check that the things he’s seeing, and sensations he feels match up right.

He can at least throw himself into logistics a bit here, first in chivying all the escaped thralls our Intrepid (and exhausted) Heroes have been herding to safety in Himring.

Then he corrals Celegorm and Curufin. (This ended up mostly dialogue!)

Maedhros: *stares pointedly*

C&C: Err.

Maedhros: *calm and measured* I have heard what you’ve been up to in Nargothrond, brothers. Rest assured, I WILL be taking that out of your hides later. For now though *points at the crowd of people filling the hall behind them* Exactly WHAT happened to do THAT?

Curufin: Honestly we don’t KNOW, Nelyo!

Celegorm: When we caught up to them, Finrod, Beren, Luthien, Huan, Tyelpe and that Annatar ner were already gone off to Angband, leaving Finrod’s steward and Frodo to hold the camp.

Maedhros: *blinks* Frodo? Who? And what kind of a name is that? (Note: Frodo is WESTRON it’s gotta sound SO WEIRD to the elves tbh. He’s definitely gonna get slapped with a proper elven name at some point here. Elves gotta give people extra names after all especially in the first age)

C&C: *baffled kind of shrugs*

Curufin: *glowers* The boy is SOMEWHERE in the crowd. He’s remarkably cagey for a boy who can’t be more than 80, and I haven’t been able to corner Tyelpe about him yet, but he rather looks REMARKABLY like that Annatar. And Mother. And Grandfather. (Note: Frodo probably doesn’t look quite like a teenager really, but he’s so coltish in his new body, that’s coming across as youth to the elves that see him)

Maedhros blinks at that. Well. He never thought Tyelpe the sort, but, well, Curufin had been a bit smothering since they’d come to Beleriand. He’s thought Tyelpe was weathering it with more grace and patience than was usually found in their line, but maybe he’d just decided to go around his father? He wouldn’t be the first in the family for that. (Note: yesss Mae, make some logical conclusions with the info you have! Compare him to you and Finno a bit! You’re VERY wrong but it’s still a good guess!)

Celegorm: He’s got one of Tyelpe’s hairclips. One of the ones father made.

Maedhros: *eyebrows* Interesting. But, at this moment, irrelevant. We can sort that out later. What else can you tell me?

Celegorm: A few hours after we got there, the whole ground heaved like a shaken table cloth. Then some hours after that, Tyelpe and everyone came out of the night leading that lot *waves a hand a the hall* Tyelpe had the silmarils.

Curufin: There wasn’t really TIME to stop and ask questions. We regrouped and lit out for Himring. Luthien is TERRIFYING by the way. She provided the bulk of the power, her and that Annatar. We pitched in too but them, us, Finrod, and Tyelpe have been cycling songs of power for- *blinks* How long has it been since Angband shook, Nelyo?

Maedhros: thirteen days and nights.

Curufin: *sputters*

Celegorm: Huh. No wonder I want to sleep for a week. I haven’t done a march like that since I was with The Hunt. *waves* Anyway, we talked to a few of the thralls, and from what few who were in the throne room said, Luthien walked in all lovely and enchanting, and sang with three voices. It put Morgoth out like a fussy toddler. And then the wolves and the orcs, and even the balrogs, everything evil, dropped where they stood as well. The orcs were dead. No one checked the balrogs. Then Luthien’s man climbed the throne and took the crown and passed it down to Tyelpe. Then he and Annatar left and came back with BLASTING powder and lined the place while Morgoth slept.

Maedhros: *wheezing incredulous laugh*

Curufin: Annatar said the dragons were UNDER the throne room Nelyo. All the eggs, all the breeding stock.

Maedhros: *squints* *head tilt* wait. *slow blink* How would he KNOW that? I didn’t know that, and I know Angband as well as any former thrall.

C&C: *exchanged uneasy glances*

Curufin: We’re not sure. Finrod and Tyelpe trust him though. And, there’s Frodo. *vague hand wave* We heard some snatches of conversation, but nothing that makes much sense.

Maedhros: Right. Where’s Maglor? Nevermind, I saw him with Luthien, I’ll get them, and find Finrod. You round up Tyelpe and this Annatar fellow, and bring them up to my study. See if you can find the Frodo lad you mentioned.

Maedhros needs to corral all the important people ASAP and GET SOME ANSWERS.

He’s able to locate Maglor being charming at Luthien and Beren fairly quickly. Whereas Celegorm and Curufin look as if they’ve been on a hard march for days, Luthien, apart from the general grime of travel in the wilds, looks fresh as a daisy in may. Exactly how much power does she HAVE?? Never mind, one thing at a time. She and Beren graciously accept an invitation to a more private area. They’ve eaten and washed a bit, same as the throng of ex-thralls, but it’s VERY crowded. And They want to talk to Tyelpe, Finrod, Frodo, and Annatar too. They know more than Maedhros! But there wasn’t a LOT of time for other questions after establishing that there was some kind of time travel going on!

Tyelpe and Annatar aren’t hard to locate either. They knew this was coming. A quick wash up and food, and maybe a change of clothes, and it’s on to the Next Thing.

Note: oh. Huh. I didn’t think of it before, but I wonder what Annatar and Frodo are WEARING??? Some casual Valinorin clothes? I bet they were NOT dressed for getting dropped in the past! If it was just like, vibes based, maybe some clothes Annatar thinks of as ‘comfy’ rather than anything either of them might have been wearing before they were dropped into the past, since their bodies were created for this unlike Tyelpe or Finrod!

Annatar reluctantly taps on Frodo’s mind, and tells him Maedhros is collecting them.

Frodo, by this point, is not crying anymore, but is the kind of wrung out EXHAUSTED, that only days and days of rough travel and then a fierce crying jag will make you. Finrod almost offers to carry him, but Frodo just sets his mouth and gets up off the stone floor, doggedly putting one foot in front of the other and plodding along next to Finrod, who directs him around the crowd and into the keep proper.

Maedhros was somehow NOT expecting this Frodo child to look as much like family as Curufin and Celegorm insisted, but oh dear, if anything they understated it. He looks VERY much like the elf called Annatar. The hair, the skin, the eyes, but the other features. They were right, and Maedhros can see little echoes of his kin all over him.

He’s also swaying where he stands next to Finrod, with red eyes and tear tracks through the wilderness grime on his face. (Remember, Frodo skipped the wash up and clothes change area. Finrod too. I’m sure once they get through the first awkward conversation, someone will get them each a basin and some clean clothes!)

Maedhros makes eye contact with Finrod and jerks his chin at the soft couch set before the fireplace. Finrod takes the hint, and leads the young ner that is, in all likelihood Maedhros’s grand-nephew over and gently pushes him down on it.

Maedhros turns his attention to Tyelpe, and also Annatar. Tyelpe steps around Maedhros, and slings the crown off his torso and sets it down on Maedhros’s desk where it thuds down with a surprisingly light thump for a thing wrought of iron and misery.

Maedhros: So. Explain. Lady? This seems to have started with you?

Luthien shrugs gracefully, and sets herself down in Maedhros’s towering armchair before the fire and tells her part of the story. It is, thankfully, lacking the canon bits of C&C capturing her and being creepy assholes! Because Tyelpe stole Huan and met up with her before that could happen here!

When she’s finished with her part, with input from Beren, and Finrod, Maedhros turns and raises his eyebrows at his nephew.

Some very speaking looks are exchanged rapidly between Finrod and Tyelpe and Annatar and Frodo.

Finally Tyelpe just shrugs helplessly.

Tyelpe: Uncle, we have NO IDEA. One minute we’re in Fourth Age Tirion, the next I’m in Nargothrond and Finrod is in Sauron’s Tower, and Annatar and Frodo are there too. And Frodo is an elf.

Maedhros. Blinks. And replays that. Nope. Still makes absolutely NO sense.

Maglor: … I’m sorry, what?

Tyelpe: We’ve done this before. It all went SO much worse. Annatar wasn’t there before, though, or Frodo.

Finrod: Well. Annatar sort of was. Why are there two of you now, by the way? That’s. Kind of alarming.

Annatar: When I spoke to the One, and was changed, I was FUNDAMENTALLY changed. To hazard a guess, when this… Event happened, I was too different to integrate with my former self. He is maiar, I am elven. I came to my senses, he’s still following his shining plan.

Frodo: And me?

Annatar: We share something of our spirits on a deep level. And since hobbits have not woken yet, and will not for many many years yet, I imagine this was the only way for you to have a form here and now.

Frodo: *watery chuckle* Oh. Yes I suppose that makes sense.

Please imagine Maedhros and Maglor and C&C ping-ponging back and forth here, COMPLETELY CONFUSED by this conversation. But desperately trying to add up the bits they’re hearing into some kind of coherent narrative. Maedhros is squinting at Annatar with sudden DEEP suspicion.

Maglor: I’m sorry, can we back up a bit here? Fourth Age VALINOR????

Tyelpe: *sighs* *sits down next to Frodo* We all might as well sit down, this is going to take a while.

I had the most interesting dream after falling asleep switching between the latest chapter of The Horrowing and a time travel fix it in another fandom. I thought you might enjoy a brief summary?

Post fic canon Annatar, Finrod, Celebrimbor, and Frodo getting the most hilarious do over of the First Age.

Finrod and Celebrimbor got dropped in their past bodies, bc same souls. Which has Finrod JUST captured by Sauron, before any of his 10 have been munched.

Celebrimbor is of course having a surreal not quite panic attack in Nargothrond.

Annatar, well. Annatar is CHANGED. He is quite literally too different from what he once was for them to qualify as the same soul anymore. Which is gratifying. If inconvenient bc there are now TWO of him, Annatar and full on Sauron. But they're similar enough that Annatar was dropped very close to Sauron.

Frodo is an elf. Dream logic was that hobbits do not exist yet, and his soul has touches of Annatar and Aman. He looks disconcertingly like a mix of Annatar and Celebrimbor, and they are NOT thinking about that right now. Hopefully ever.

Most of the dream centered around all of them doing their best to set aside freak outs, while getting Finrod and his merry band (plus Beren) OUT of Sauron's grasp.

There was a FANTASTIC moment where on the way out, Sauron comes face to face and soul to soul with Annatar and he's just like;

Sauron: *jaw dropped fully horrified face* WHAT are YOU?!?!?

Annatar: *shoving elves behind him, nose in the air* Wouldn't YOU like to know, weather boy. *uses Song to blast him through a wall while he's distracted*

The whole thing featured 10 other elves and Beren as a baffled peanut gallery.

Meanwhile Celebrimbor is weighing the pros and cons of just- drugging his uncles and shoving them in a back room somewhere where he can bolt the door. He thinks he can maybe get Huan to help if he explains?

It was SO much fun.

The fact that the dream was partially centered on everybody trying not to panic, which is in fact what the Harrowing is all about for a while

...I feel so bad for poor Celebrimbor dealing with Nargothrond all by himself while the others are off having adventures. I hope their next stop after the rescue is to swing by and pick him up. Also, I dearly want to know what Annatar has to say to Beren on the subject of his current Luthien-and-Thingol-and-Silmarils situation.

I know we’re all struggling with this endless hiatus and the lack of new content, so I thought it would be fun to resurrect the #chenfordchats that were circling around the fandom earlier this year. This does feel endless doesn't it? Not sure why this hiatus has felt longer than when we had the writers strike. That didn't have an end date for a long time. We have one for this one and it's felt worse. Probably because of all the BTS being withheld for now. We're all starving for content of any kind they'll give us. They've been restricted from sharing much of anything. So we're going little stir crazy. 47 days to go LOL We can do it.

This was not easy because these asks never are but always fun. Appreciate the challenge of them. Here we go. These aren't in any particular order BTW. 1x01-What's not to love about her opening line as a character? So confident and ready to go. Look at her. Love everything about this line. Confidence rolling off her as she says. Hasn't been squashed yet by her future soulmate....

1x03-I LOVE this line for how it lands with Tim. But mainly we get to see the early sparks of confident Lucy putting Tim in his place. Standing up for herself. Because if she doesn't her career is going up in flames along with Tim's epic flameout. Telling him like it is and I love her for it.

1x07-Another amazing line that lands so well. This is an iconic scene but this line right here. This IMO is what keeps Tim from crossing that line. It's so spot on. She went out on a major limb and it pays off. Just love this line in particular.

2x01-Are we sensing a theme? LOL It was accidental. But I do love Lucy putting my boy in his place when warranted. Standing up for herself in the process. Straight up owns his ass in this argument with dem fighting words. Love her for it.

2x08-Always love watching her fierce loyalty come out despite rank. heh I love this line. Because once again calling someone out on their crap. Why we love our girl so much isn't it? So many reasons but this is definitely one of them.

2x10-Our poor girl so very frustrated with dating especially as a cop. This is an epic line that I don't think gets enough love. Cracks me up so much.

2x11-Love me some BAMF Lucy. It's one of my favs. The fierceness she shows not only saying this line. But making sure she makes eye contact with Caleb when she delivers it. I love her so much. We all know how true this statement ended up.

3x05-This seems like two quotes in one cause it kinda is. Already breaking the rules as is so here we are haha Fiercely protective Lucy reporting for duty with this quote. Loved it so much. She gonna beat your ass Stanton.

3x07-This line will never cease to crack me up. She owns his ass this entire episode really. It's one giant mic drop for her. This one is one of my all time favs of that ep and in general. I dare you to watch that scene let alone that ep and not be laughing.

4x16-Her reply to Tim's reaction makes me cackle. Her comedic timing is perfection. She is fed up with her hubby at this point and it makes me laugh so much. Goes from playful to over it immediately.

4x22-Lucy's reaction to Juicy is an all time fav. She was having fun messing with Tim over Dim till then. Her replies are so funny I love this quote for how much it makes me laugh every time. She is disturbed and not having fun anymore. LOL

5x12-Such an iconic way to drive her point home with this epic line. No more needed to be explained after this line. I adore this quote and the way she delivers it to Tim.

Lucy Chen is me when i'm prepping for anything with my anxiety. This cracked me up so very hard. Also couldn't find a gif of this glorious line. So just edited down a gif I did ha but I adore this line for how much I related with it LOL She is me when I am prepping.

Cross Guild Romance Idea: Established Crocohawk. Ever since Mihawk suggested that Biggy could be the figurehead of Cross Guild to keep the heat off of him and Crocodile, Buggy has this massive gratitude towards Hawkeye, and also admiration. While he is terrified of Crocodile, Buggy genuinely wants to make sure that Mihawk is happy on the island. Buggy personally makes sure that their is plenty of red wine, books, and also gets the best seeds for cabbages and other vegetables he can find. He leaves all of these things for Mihawk without making any flashing show of it. Not wanting to leave out Crocodile because he likes him too despite is terror, Buggy leaves him several of his own creature comforts as well. He always sneaks in while Mihawk and Crocodile are out and never says anything. Mihawk and Crocodile are suspicious but actually hold onto the gifts they get, because it is stuff they enjoy. They decided to stake out their residence and are stunned when they finally see Buggy sneak in and leave such lovely and thoughtful things for them all without any fanfare or note. Crocodile is all for confronting Buggy and wringing answers out of him since he's always suspicious but Mihawk talks in out of it, sensing Buggy's got no ill-intentions. Instead, Mihawk says that they should give to Buggy as good as he gives to them and see what happens. Buggy is stunned when he finds a bland new makeup kit waiting for him when he comes home from a long day, and the anonymous, thoughtful gifts start pouring in. They are courting without even realizing it, Mihawk and Crocodile deeply pleased by how they make Buggy glow with quiet happiness and Buggy overjoyed when Mihawk and Crocodile start being warmer to him. It culminates with Mihawk and Crocodile finally ambushing Buggy when Buggy's sneaking in to leave Mihawk his birthday present of this rare set of flower seeds and a gift of new cigars for Crocodile. Buggy turns to sneak back out only for come face to face with the former warlords. He's terrified he's gonna get trounced to a pulp, instead he's yanked off to bed so Mihawk and Crocodile can thank him properly and claim him for themselves. Even after they get together, the three of them keep giving each other things that made them think of the other.

That’s so sweet of Buggy, does Mihawk deserve those gifts? Not really, and definitely not Crocodile, but it's happening. The clown is making sure to note down anything that Crocodile and Mihawk seemed to like. Whether if they smile at it or say it'slvely and great. He's trying his best not to get presents the powerful duo don't like. Partly the reason he would straight-up hand over the gifts to Mihawk and Crocodile. Buggy has to keep himself safe in this dangerous game of breaking ‘n’ entering to gift presents to the two that beat him to a pulp often.

Doubles the gifts in a week, instead of one or twice, it's more like two or three times a week. The clown is so happy with his ability to break in ‘n’ entering without ringing any alarms. But he isn't taking any chances in a way of doing when Crocodile and Mihawk are near. He likes this calmness between the trio.

Buggy hasn't told Alvida and Galfino about it because he doesn't want to earful that those two will give him. They might not help him when Mihawk and Crocodile hit him, but they can totally can stop Buggy before he does even more stupid things that would the two ex-Warlords pissed off. Buggy hasn't told Mohji or Richie because they might spill it to Crocodile and Mihawk by accident. But I'm sure he told Cabaji, swearing him on his Swordsman's Honor because he needs help to figure out what Mihawk and Crocodile likes. Poor Cabaji he so desperately wants to hold this over Mohji’s head but he can't. Which he doesn't like because he always likes to one up Mohji. Oh well, Cabaji can talk about it after this gets out.

Crocodile and Mihawk staking out to see who was gifting them presents. I'm sure Buggy won't go in unless he has more than 90% that Mihawk and Crocodile aren't in there. Unfortunately after this going on for a couple of months, Buggy getting a little bit comfortable doing all the breaking ‘n’ entering that he doesn't realize Crocodile and Mihawk. I'm sure the big old sandman was in his sand form wherever Mihawk decided to hide it… I really want to say coffin because that man would totally have one. But it wouldn't be big enough for both them… Where they would hide?

Mihawk decided ‘Hey, let's do it to him.’ is great, let Buggy guess and guess like they had to do before deciding to stake out to find the person. Poor Buggy is gonna be like that meme of ‘Calm, Panic, Calm, PANIC!’ He's still gonna use the makeup because someone broke into his tent to place it down. Crocodile and Mihawk are very pleased with how happy the clown is. So all three of them continue this game and it brings them closer (so great!)

RIP is what Buggy thinking for himself, not Rest in Peace, nah it's Rest in Pieces after they are done with him… But that didn't happen and he's kinda confused.

Love that they still give each other presents, probably still breaking ‘n’ entering each other's spaces to do so.

Yo! I'm doing a Heroes of Olympus rewrite!

I'm not a huge fan of how some scenes go in canon and how the characters esp the gods are handled in Hoo, and after reading one too many rewrite/AU fics, I've decided fuck it, imma make my own.

I'm changing quite a few things, like:

- making Piper's memories not be tampered with and as a result be way closer to Leo (credit to Heroes of Juno by @queenjunothegreat for this idea!)

- MOTHERLY HERA/JUNO WHO PSEUDO-ADOPTS JASON FTW also parental Lupa but that'll be more apparent in a Jason prequel/sequel(depends on how I wanna format it) I’ll write after TLH is done

- slowburn valgrace instead of comphet jiper

- Leo and Piper QPR(+Jason when Piper stops being his #1 opp). Jasipereo ftw babyyy

- the whole series is just gonna have a good deal of focus on the Lost Trio. I'm not gonna shaft anyone ofc but my favorite punching bags characters are just gonna get extra love :3

- Jason's gonna be considerably more feral cuz CMON MAN WAS RAISED BY WOLVES(this is more prominent in the later books cuz in TLH he was alr feral, going at 2 giants with his BARE ASS HANDS)

- Jason has more bite cuz DAMMIT HE DESERVES TO BE ANGRY/BITTER AND CLAP BACK. HIS LIFE IS SHIT, LET MY BRO BE MAD

- more exploration into Jason's character cuz man was shafted so hard :(

- exploration of characters' powers in general, def buffing the Big Three kids to be as strong as Percy cuz holy cow he's OP. I love Percy and his OP-ness, but the other Big Three kids should be just as OP

- Zeus is the God of Justice, which we don't see much of in PJO's characterization of him, but Jupiter is Roman and hence is much more strict in the RRverse, so consequently I think his domain of law and order is more central to Jupiter than his greek counterpart, so I'd like to explore Jason having powers related to that and being an absolute powerhouse when it comes to debates and politics despite hating them

- characterizing the Gods differently from canon as I'm a Hellenist and writing them as they are in canon makes me like. Kinda uncomfortable. I will be using mythic literalism as that is what PJO/HoO's based on and I'm not rewriting the very foundations of the series, so they will still have committed the things they did in mythology, though I'm keeping them largely unaltered from the Og greek mythos and unsanitized as this isn't intended for a young audience like PJO is. Their behavior won't be exactly like their depictions in myths nor how they actually are irl, it's a mix of both(Ex: Zeus has still done heinous shit so he won't be as great as he is irl, but he isn't supremely petty and bitchy like he is in PJO.). This uhh. Will probably mean that PJO events would go differently which would influence HOO but if I think about that too much I'm gonna wanna do a PJO rewrite too and akbhdhd so just imagine that everything that goes on in PJO goes as canon (for now at least) for some reason or another.

- Octavian and Jason are were best friends cuz I said so. This change is inspired by To Storm and Fire(a Heroes of Olympus rewrite) which I am in LOVE with. The antagonistic side characters(like Drew and Octavian) got very little development or character exploration so l'm definitely giving them that in my rewrite!

- The Seven feel and are much closer together

- delving more into the sevens' trauma pre-camp, might also do a one/two shot for each of them. Jason’s a given cuz I’m writing a whole ass fic or even series dedicated to his past, Leo and Piper definitely, probably also Hazel and Annabeth, not sure on Percy and Frank cuz for Frank I’m def going into the trauma that comes with growing up in an Asian household but don’t have too many ideas on how to execute that, and for Percy I don’t have all that many ideas in general outside of the little we know in PJO(I used to think we knew a lot but honestly, we really don’t? Like we know Poseidon left, Sally had to work a lot, Gabe sucks, and he got kicked out of 6 six schools in 6 years and the reasons, but we don’t have any concrete details. There might be more in HoH, I haven’t read it yet so lmk if there is). Open to any ideas for this!

- camp is. Tense. It's been only a few months since the war, grief is still fresh, and Jason being tall, blonde, and blue-eyed with a scar ain't helping 💀 some people think Silena was a hero, others think she was a villain, some people sympathized with Luke, others despised him, there's a lotta differing views.

I have loads more ideas that I won't get into here cuz the post'll get way too long, but l'd love to hear what you guys think! What scenes/characterizations should I change? What topics would you like to see handled differently? What should I add? I'm open to any and all suggestions!

Currently outlining TLH, will start posting it on my ao3 once I have the first chapter and 4-5 buffer ones written so I'll prolly start posting it in a month or two? Idk, depends on my workload irl and if I get hit by writer’s block. Maybe less, maybe more, who knows. I'll be writing a bunch of shorter stories for specific moments, time between books, and namely a prequel/tih sequel focusing on Jason's past and who he was before Hera wiped his memory. Wade was quiet for a moment, with Rockland's comment having hit him in a vulnerable place. A kid could do a lot worse... Was that really true? Would he have been a good father to his own child? He'd never have the chance to know. "Thanks, man. That means a lot," he said eventually, not wanting to get too heavily dark with this poor kid. He didn't ask for that, and he had his own problems to deal with, after all. "Well, someday, right? But not today." Wade shrugged, trying to keep things lighter.

"I know. It's always complicated. But that doesn't mean you don't deserve to be heard." Complicated or no, Wade didn't want Rockland to feel like what he wanted didn't matter, or that he had to brush off mistreatment just to keep things calm and semi-normal. When Rockland said that's how the scientists did it, Wade nodded. "I think so, though I kinda failed science in school, so I wouldn't use me as any kind of authority on that subject." Upon hearing the pasta-burning story, Wade eyed Rockland with a slight smile. "You're a pretty responsible little dude, aren't you?" he concluded. "That's gonna help you go places in life, guaranteed, so don't let other people tell you you're wrong for bein' that way."

He let the boy's apology go, although Wade's first reaction to it was to yet again refute it. No, it was a biggie. It wasn't nothing. No kid should have to put up with that kind of bullshit. But as much as it bothered him to hear of a good kid like Rockland being treated that way, Wade had to accept that he wasn't his kid, and he couldn't save everybody. Sometimes he just had to let people handle their own lives. All he could do was offer help, but if Rockland didn't want it, then he had to respect that.

"Yeah, I mean, it'd probably look kinda weird to some people, but I can't not offer a kid help when it sounds like he doesn't have the best home life. That's just not me. Maybe I'm not thinking about the legal consequences like I should, but I can't just shrug and go well good luck with that either, so... the offer's there, if you ever need it or want it, no matter how it looks, okay? If you don't, that's cool too. Sometimes knowin' a safety net's there is enough of a comfort to be a help, even if you don't ever actually jump, you know? I'm glad to hear you've got some people on your side, though, that's good."

"Well... is your mom still alive? Do you know? If you've got her name or any other information about her, I could try to look her up for you. Findin' people's kinda my thing," Wade offered, not really knowing whether Rockland wanted to find her or was content to just have that photo. Some things were left well enough alone, and if this was one of them, then so be it.

"Yeah, definitely not what you wanna see. Or have in your face," Wade said with a chuckle. He checked his watched. "It's gettin' late. You gotta be home by a certain time, or you good?" he asked, not knowig if he was keeping Rockland out past some kind of curfew. The last thing he wanted was to get the poor kid in even more hot water with his dad.

Well that caught their attention alright. A middle finger had shot into the air, directed at a group of teens across the street who were hovering by a Duncan Donuts long closed for the night. The boy beneath the hoodie, propelling said finger, sneered. Just like that, the group of five moved towards him, the tallest, Shacks, sauntering forward with an irritating air of confidence. And to think, there'd been a time when Rockland had thought he was cool.

"You can't seriously blame us, Rocky." He looked to the others with cruel amusement, "It was a prank, get a sense of hum-" Too busy searching for the favour of his crew, he'd missed the draw of the younger teen's fist before it met his cheek.

"Prank my ass, I could've been arres-oof." Rockland was tackled by Archie, the smallest of the bunch, who was about a head shorter than he was, but kinda stalky for his age, and with the element of surprise on his side. Cane clattering out of hand, and across the sidewalk, the lanky teen scraped across the pavement, electric pain radiating up from his tailbone. He caught the breath that had been knocked out of him just in time to catch the thump of a fist to the nose in return. - For Wade

Wade didn't know what to make of this city yet. He'd only been here a couple days and was still trying to get his bearings. It wasn't a bad city, he thought, just cold. Just... really cold when you're alone, like all cities are. Nevertheless, Wade did some hunting and stocked up on other supplies, always wanting to stay on the move. That's how he got jobs, and that's how he kept sane.

Tonight had been quiet enough so far... that is until he heard sounds of a fight. But a fight... between kids? Was he hearing this right? Wade made his way toward the sounds, and sure enough, some kids whose parents were absent and whose bedtimes must be fast-approaching were going at it. Or rather, several kids were beating up on one unfortunate one.

"Hey! Come on, cut it out, what the hell're you guys doin'?!" Wade yelled, hoping to scatter the bullies. "You know better than this, get off him! Don't make me call the cops!" he said, watching as they all scattered... save for one. Wade knelt down beside the boy lying on the ground. "Hey, buddy, you okay?" he asked gently.

You don't go around shouting about the secret plan. Not if you want it to remain secret. Solas specifically called for volunteers to "Disrupt the citadel's defences. Give us an opening to get that relic." That is exactly what they did. He wasn't sending people out on a peaceful patrol where he secretly knew they'd be ambushed. The fact that the citadel was considered impregnable came up in the dialogue. He definitely played his cards close to his chest in regards to the details of the mission, but I don't think anyone was confused about the amount of danger they were in.

Mm. That's speculation. We don't see the end of the battle. We know that the spirit of Disruption, whom Rook "played" in the memory, was killed, along with several others. That makes sense: the point of the attack was to keep all the defenders' attention focused on that bridge, to protect the lives and the mission of Team B, who were inside the citadel stealing the relic. He couldn't call it off the moment it started to go "wrong" because the whole point was to look committed. They needed to keep up the ruse until Team B was safely out. They may have called a retreat after. I don't know – they also may not. But it's noteworthy that extracting the spirits on the bridge would have meant the deaths of the ones in the citadel.

Sure. But I'm still not as morally outraged as they want me to be. The problem of a rebellion is that you typically don't have all the stuff: the castles, the really good weapons, money for mercenaries, etc. So do you want the moral high ground of never using an underhand tactic? Great. Then you can hold another Very Noble pitched battle next week on which everyone is fully briefed and where they all die.

Honestly, the fact that Felassan is out of the loop on this one is the most interesting part of it! Far more than the rest of it. But, frankly, he was on board when they were throwing bodies at an unbreakable wall "honestly", so I'm ... not really inclined to back him up on this one, you know? I like Felassan. I'm still mad at Solas for murdering him. But here? Nah. Wrong call.

So. This isn't really about Solas as a person. Bioware has a history. If a rebellion does more than write a strongly worded letter, they start wringing their hands over it.

I don't want to over romanticise rebellion. It's messy and bloody and it shouldn't be anyone's Plan A. But there are several points in Thedas's history where I've looked it all up and down and thought ... yeah, I can see why this is a "To the barricades!" moment.

Uldred, Anders, Fiona and her mages, Briala and her eluvians. They all get the same "Oooooh. But does this make them just as bad?" treatment and ... well. Nah.

So when we're doing it again, with an ancient slave rebellion ... I tend to look askance at it, you know? Because it's about framing.

For example. In The Lord of the Rings, from about the middle of The Two Towers onward, Aragorn starts running around Middle-earth effectively shouting "Hi! I'm Isildur's heir and I've got the Ring and I'm gonna conquer Mordor! What are you gonna do about it, arsehole?"

And this culminates in the battle at the Black Gate. In a private meeting between Gandalf, Aragorn, Prince Imrahil, and Elrond's sons Elladan and Elrohir, they decide to lead an absurdly small force up the the impregnable gates of Mordor, still shouting "Hi! I'm Isildur's heir and I've got the Ring and I'm gonna conquer Mordor! What are you gonna do about it, arsehole?"

This is a diversionary tactic, intended to draw all of Sauron's forces to the gate, and keep eyes off Frodo and Sam, who are inside Mordor, attempting to destroy the source of Sauron's power, the Ring itself.

And it works! When you switch back to Sam's point of view, he starts to notice that Mordor is emptying out. There are far fewer orcs to contend with everywhere than he expected! Even when they run into them and are forced to march with them for a while, they are hurrying and distracted and completely fail to notice that two very small orcs are actually hobbits!

Sure, it all gets a bit messy at the end – but the Ring is destroyed and evil is defeated.

And no one is consulting the random footsoldiers of Gondor, or the Rohirrim, or anyone else, on whether they think this is a good idea.

This ... is basically the same plan, right? Yes, differences in the details, because it's a different story. But it's the same basic deal. And no one gives Aragorn any shit for this (or Gandalf, for that matter, even when he unilaterally rejects Sauron's terms for peace) because the story frames the defeat of Sauron as so important that this desperate gamble is worth it. Framing is important.

And now, as I'm playing a character who apparently has to fight these same arseholes again because hey, look, they're going to end the world ... Eh.

I'm really not feeling all that judgemental about Solas understanding the concept of strategy. Go Team B! Steal that relic!

Okay ... yes, and that is brutal. But this is hardly an unheard of battle tactic. Would it have been better if they had successfully taken the citadel, but with tremendous loss of life? It's only bad because this was a diversionary tactic and the action really succeeded? What's the argument here?

I'm not going to be pro-war, but how scandalised do you want me to be? Solas is bad ... because he knows what strategy is?
