I wondered why I stopped getting bagels and then I bought some bagels and well I don't own a toaster so to toast a bagel I put it on a heated pan and lay a plate over the bagel and put something heavy on the plate to press it down. and I gotta do this every time. end result slaps tho.

Mastering Culinary Artistry: Unveiling the Best Wet Grinders, Bread Toasters, and Sandwich Makers
The kitchen is a battlefield, but it can be a culinary haven with the right weapons. Today, we'll explore three appliances that cater to different needs: the wet grinder, the bread toaster, and the sandwich maker.
The Mighty Wet Grinder: A South Indian Staple
The wet grinder is a powerhouse in South Indian cuisine. Unlike its dry-grinding cousin, the wet grinder uses soaked pulses and grains with minimal water to create smooth batters for idli, dosa, vada, and more. These fluffy pancakes and savory fritters are breakfast staples across southern India.
What to Look for in a Wet Grinder:
Motor Power: A strong motor (around 1-2 horsepower) ensures efficient grinding without overheating.
Stone vs. Steel Grindstones: Traditional stone grinders produce the best flavor but require soaking and drying. Steel grinders are faster and easier to maintain.
Capacity: Choose a size that suits your needs. A family might opt for a 2-liter grinder, while a single person might prefer a smaller one.
Tips for Using a Wet Grinder:
Soak your lentils and rice for at least 4 hours before grinding.
Use minimal water – the batter should be thick and pourable.
Experiment with different grains and pulses for a variety of dishes.
The Humble Toaster: A Timeless Classic
The bread toaster is a kitchen workhorse, transforming plain bread into golden-brown slices perfect for breakfast or a quick snack.
Toaster Types:
Pop-Up Toaster: The classic choice, with slots for bread slices that automatically pop up when toasted.
Toaster Oven: Offers more versatility, toasting bagels, pastries, and even small pizzas.
Toaster Features to Consider:
Number of Slices: Two-slice toasters are common, but four-slice models are great for families.
Browning Levels: Choose from light to dark toast for everyone's preference.
Bagel Function: Toasts only one side of the bagel for a perfectly chewy interior.
Toasting Tips:
Use slightly stale bread for better texture.
Freeze leftover bread for longer shelf life and easier toasting.
To reheat pizza, try the toaster oven for a crispy crust.
The Versatile Sandwich Maker: A Quick-Fix Hero
The sandwich maker is a lifesaver for busy mornings or a fun way to get creative with lunch. Fillings can range from classic cheese to gourmet combinations.
Sandwich Maker Options:
Standard Toaster: Seals sandwiches for a warm, melty interior.
Panini Press: Creates crispy, ridged sandwiches with restaurant-quality results.
Waffle Iron: Doubles as a sandwich maker with special plates.
Sandwich Making Tips:
Butter bread slices for extra flavor and crispness.
Use shredded cheese for even melting.
Get creative with fillings – try pesto, hummus, or leftover grilled vegetables.
Conclusion
Wet grinders, bread toasters, and sandwich makers may seem like simple appliances, but they can unlock a world of culinary possibilities. From fluffy South Indian breakfasts to quick and delicious lunches, these tools can help you conquer your kitchen and create delicious meals. So, choose your weapon, explore new recipes, and get cooking!

yay okay! and no worries, i know this time of year is super hecticcccc—my mom went grocery shopping earlier and walmart was beyond crowded. we still didn’t do our christmas shopping either, i know we are so behind.
what do you think the pogues’ favorite foods would be? for jj, picture his being both chicken wings and pizza—both saturated with fats and oils. junk food just how he likes it.
and kie, she gives me pasta & salad vibes. i think she would enjoy a acai bowl/smoothie bowl every now and then. — concept anon
yes its so hectic 😭 i was fighting for my life at the store the other day. i just started christmas shopping bestie so i feel u
john b.
i think john b prefers meat over fish, so i’m gonna say he loves a good burger every once in a while. i can see him inviting himself over for dinner at kie’s house on the nights her parents make pulled pork or some kind of beef. i think he enjoys bbq. i can also see jb enjoying bananas as a snack, or when he’s out like at the movies or something, a soft pretzel with cheese!
jj.
jj lovess junk food. for breakfast, i think he loves poptarts. he reminds me of drake parker from drake & josh. cheese balls, snack cakes, chips, ice cream, candy, fast food, jj loves it all. he did say something in s1 about craving shrimp & grits so we can assume he loves that too! lives for a bowl of movie theater popcorn every now and then too, as well as nachos with a lottt of cheese.
pope.
i don’t see pope as a picky eater. maybe when he was a kid, but he grew out of it. i think pope likes healthier foods because he knows the effects of eating unhealthy. i see pope as a sandwich guy and idk why. sub sandwiches with a pickle spear on the side, even a meatball sub is fine with him. i don’t think he minds a pb&j either. i think pope loves a good hot dog too! probably with all the works; ketchup, mustard, relish, and sauerkraut. i think this stems from going to baseball & other sports games with his dad growing up!
kiara.
i think kiara loves açaí bowls or bagels in the morning! she likes boba, smoothies, and sometimess sweetened iced tea. she’ll drink some warm tea with lemon when she’s sick too! she likes salads for lunch and will 100% shake her salad vigorously until everything is mixed how she likes it. kie loves pasta too!! i think she likes shrimp fettuccine alfredo. i also think she likes sushi!
sarah.
lovess french toast for breakfast, preferably with fruit on top! for lunch i think sarah lovess kraft mac & cheese. i think sarah loves chicken, preferably grilled, and will eat it with almost anything. lives for a grilled chicken caesar salad! i also think she likes grilled cheese sandwiches a lot (or just sandwiches period), maybe with some tomato soup on the side. i could totally see her getting super excited if someone bought her a panini press lol

rosemary rolls - one
pairing: bucky barnes x reader
summary: working at a chili’s was the worst thing in the world. luckily, bucky barnes was one of the best things in the world.
Tumblr media
Waking up had been a difficult feat that morning, and you had decided to go on a run to wake yourself up. God knows who put that idea into your head as it did absolutely nothing to help.
You were so tired from your run that morning, and still reeling from the sudden change of your hometown to the close-knit community you had recently moved to, that you stood in the quaint bakery you had found yourself in, shuffling forward until suddenly you were face-to-face with a pretty redhead wearing a striped apron and a jaunty paper cap. “Welcome to Frazier Bakery! What can we do to make you feel at home today?”
God, did you hate this corporate crap, even when you were child and hardly knew what it all was. You looked up at the menu board, scanning it. Coffee, muffins, breakfast paninis, smoothies, bagels. You looked back at the smoothie options, looking them over.
“Extra large Blueberry Banana Freeze.” you told her.
“Coming right up!”
She turned, walking over to a row of blenders, and you took another look around you. There were needlepoint samples on all the walls. LIFE’S TROUBLES ARE OFTEN SOOTHED BY HOT, MILKY DRINKS, read one by the sugar, milk, and cream station.  Another one, over by the recycling bins, proclaimed WASTE NOT, WANT NOT. You wondered where they ordered them, and if you could get anything mass-embroidered and framed.
Once you got your smoothie, you went over and took a seat on a faux-leather chair in front of the faux-roaring fire. The title of the smoothie was right: after two sips on your straw, you had a headache so bad you could barely see straight. You put a hand on your forehead, as if that would warm things up, then closed your eyes, just as the front door bell chimed.
“Welcome to Frazier Bakery!!” one of the counter people yelled.
“Thank you!” a voice yelled back, and someone laughed. You were still rubbing your forehead when you heard footsteps, then, “y/n?”
You opened your eyes, and there was a familiar face. Of course it would be him. Who else would it be?
“Bucky.” You greeted coldly.
Bucky peered at you a little more closely. “You okay? You look like you’ve been-”
“It’s just a brain freeze,” You said, holding up the cup as evidence. “I’m fine.”
You could tell that he was not fully convinced, but thankfully, he didn’t push the issue. “What are you doing here? I didn’t know you were here, least of all a Friend of Frazier.”
“A what?”
“That’s what we call the regulars.” He waved at the redhead, who waved back.  “Hold on, I’m just grabbing a Freaking Everything and a Procrastinator’s Special. Be back in a sec.”
You took another tentative sip of your smoothie, watching as Bucky walked over to the counter before ducking behind it. He said something to the redhead, who laughed, before grabbing a muffin out of the case and then poured himself a huge cup of coffee.  He then pushed a few buttons on the till, slid in a fiver, and took some change out, which he deposited into the tip jar. After waving at the redhead, Bucky started back over to you.
Good lord, you thought, grant me strength. Before Bucky could begin talking again, you quickly stood up and dashed out the door to your car. She had been given to you by your mum when you were 16, and had been promptly named Super Shitty due to her, well, super shittiness.
Bucky was your friend back when the two of you were kids, inseparable.  Then Steve had been rescued by Bucky from a fight in a back alley and all hell had broken loose. From the get-go, you didn’t get along with Steve: the two of you were constantly disagreeing and throwing shade n the opposite directions. After awhile, you had just stopped with Bucky, and you’d held a stupid grudge on the two until a couple months ago. If you were going to be living in the same small town as the two, you might as well try and get over your teenage years.
And now Bucky was a regular -or, as he dubbed it, a ‘Friend of Frazier’- at the only bakery that was en-route to your new place of work.
Thoughts of Bucky filled your head as you made your way to work. By the time you had arrived, your horrible drink had been finished and you had a stonking headache.
You had found the restaurant by accident, pulling into it’s car park to take a breather from the torrential rain. It was warm and inviting, with faded red walls and windows that let off the warm glow from inside.
Jobs were a rarity in this town, and you were on the hunt for one after moving into your shared home the previous month. Seemingly, the only places hiring were a stationary company and a loud, vibrant coffee shop. Neither of them interested you, nor did the measly pay they both offered.
You hadn’t decided to go into the shop looking for  job, more looking for a space to have a nice coke in the warm. Luck was on  your side that night, however, and you had immediately inquired about the 'Hiring!’ sign posted in the front door. After a couple days of waiting, you had received a call informing you of your start on Monday.
Anxiety flowed through your veins as you stepped into the restaurant. Being that it was only just past 9am, you weren’t surprised to see it as empty, sans a lone redhead sat at the bar with her face scrunched up.
“We’re shut.” She said after a few seconds, looking up at you. “Can’t you read?”
Eyes widening, you stammered, “Um, y-yes. I start today.”
With an almost silent sigh, the girl stood. “I’m Natasha from behind the bar.”
“Y/n.” You replied. “From down the road.”
Natasha’s eyes twinkled with what you assumed to be amusement before she motioned for you to follow her.  “You’ll probably be waiting, but will undoubtedly have to work bar some days. Tips of the trade, mama: do not use the ice dispenser, get it from the freezer that stores the ice pops. The dispenser will turn off the electricity. Pepper’s looking into it but corporate doesn’t have enough money to spare.”
“Pepper is….”
“Our boss.” Natasha finished. “Tony was originally, but he gave the positionto Pepper a year after they first met. He is wrapped around her finger.”
“Do not take my name in vain, spidey!” A cheerful voice made you jump as a familiar man came out of the kitchen doors. Tony was the one to interview you for the job, and had seemed like someone you would want to be friends with.
“Don’t call me that, Tony.” Natasha said firmly, and you couldn’t help but think that this was a recurring thing. “This is y/n.”
Tony’s eyes flicked to you and you smiled. “Hey.”
“Woo, woo, woo! First day!” Tony cheered and you saw Natasha roll her eyes.
“I wish god was in this chilis.” sighed Natasha and a burst of laugh came from you, a single 'Ha’.
Tony’s hand clapped you on the shoulder suddenly. “Let’s get this day started, shall we? I’ll have Sam show you around.”
"That,“ Sam said ,"is Wanda. She makes the best cocktails in town.”
Sam had been introduced to you quickly, but you had immediately connected to the man and his funny banter as he showed you around the Chili’s complex.
The auburn woman Sam was referring to looked up and, with a squeak, Sam ducked down behind a chair. “I think she can also read minds.” He hissed and you chuckled.
“Samuel Wilson!” Wanda shrieked, shaking a wooden spoon in your direction. “Stop talking about me to the new girl. I’m Wanda Maximoff, world renowned chef and all-around good person.”
“You work in a goddamn Chilis!” Sam guffawed and Wanda glared at his back.
The two of you continued, Sam talking faster now with the lunch rush steadily approaching. “You’ve already met Natasha, of course. She can work a knife like nobody’s business.”
This didn’t surprise you. Natasha seemed like the type of person that could snap a bone in half without even blinking. You wouldn’t hesitate to admit that she already scared you, even after only knowing her for a couple hours.
“Bruce has anger issues.” Sam pointed to a short man with glasses low on his nose. He was in the middle of tying up his apron and shot Sam an exhausted look. “He does marijuana. Prescribed. Sometimes he let’s me hit it when he’s not looking.”
“When he’s not looking.” You snorted, nodding your head.  “Your brain cells, gosh.”
Sam winked at you. “Those three over there.” You looked into the direction of his finger and your heart immediately sank. “Steve, the blonde one with short hair used to be 5'7, less than 100 pounds. He had a growth spurt when he was 20 and only Bucky knows why. He’s the brunette one. Absolute monster at typing, can do 100 words in under a minute.”
“Wow, real talented people here.” You chuckled. Steve had actually bulked up at 17, just after his mother passed away. It had been an extremely cold winter, stealing souls all over the country, including Ms. Rogers. Her funeral had been a somber affair, and neither Steve nor Bucky could be found at the wake afterwards.
“Yeah, Bucky basically does everyone’s reports around here. You see those two over there,” Sam moved his arm lazily in the direction of Natasha, who was sat next a mousy haired man. “Natasha, of course, but also her best friend Clint. He can fit 134 M&M’S in his mouth. Up until recently, he couldn’t fit 60 in there, but then Nat broke his jaw and bam! It was suddenly a black hole.”
“That’s what she said!” You joked. “No, that’s what he said.”
Sam looked at you for a second and you wondered if you had said anything wrong, before he laughed, clapping you on the shoulder. “Thor, the one in between Steve and Bucky, can bench press both of them at the same time.”
“The same time!?”
“The same time.”
“Alrighty, Sam.” A soft voice said from behind the two of you. “Lunch rush soon, please stop traumatizing the new kid with your stories of Clint.”
“But Pep..” Sam whined at the sophisticated looking ginger in front of you. Pepper, your boss, was wearing a white suit, free of wrinkles. At Sam’s words, Pepper pursed her red lips.
“Work.” She ordered and Sam groaned, trudging off. “I’m not sure if Tony told you, but this is a no-nonsense workspace. We would like you to respect both your co-workers and your customers. If you ever need anything, you’re welcome to talk to me, or any of the team: if you talk to Maria, our HR leader, she’ll keep it purely confidential.”
“Ok.” You squeaked. “Thank you, ma'am.”
Pepper smiled slightly. “Call me Pepper, sweetie.”
As Pepper walked away from you, you could feel the impending doom of lunch at a Chilis whilst working alongside your childhood best friend. Boy, was it going to be a long couple of months.

The girl getting fired for showing how Panera Mac is reheated drama
I gotta yell because I'm a former Panera employee of 4+ years.
Yall stupid if you thought Panera cooked the mac in house from scratch.
The shit is fresh but its shipped in from a local hub where they prep the stuff.
The dough for every bread bagel and pastry is /baked/ in house but the dough is shipped refrigerated to the cafe before opening from said hub. Likewise all soups and pastas.. yes that includes your beloved mac n cheese
Is sent frozen and reheated as needed.
Meats are pre-cooked as well.
All produce is fresh and whole and prepped in the back of the house.
Coffee is brewed in house. Fancy drinks and smoothies are made on the spot by the barista. Lemonade and the sweet green tea as well as the chai lattes are premade in house from concentrate.
Sandwiches and salads prepared right in front of you.
Croutons (last I knew) are made in house.
There are large industrial ovens, prep tables, sink and dishwasher, walk in cooler, walk in freezer, and the 'rethermalizer' (hot water bath machine) in the back and that's all. No stoves.
Meat for cold sandwiches stays cold and can only be kept for so long. It gets heated for hot paninis by the whole sandwich being in the panini press
If you ask for your bacon extra crispy the best employees can do is to place it on the panini press and pray it doesnt burn. And that depends if the manager deems that an ok thing to do... and then that's only if it's not the middle of a rush and also you are actually a pleasant person.
And this all makes sense!
Panera Bread is not a proper 'sit down with a waiter/waitress and leave a tip restaurant'
No matter how much the company wants to be on their high horse and try to deny it
ITS A GLORIFIED FAST FOOD CHAIN
But despite that; yes the food is made fresh as can be managed and yes it's all preservative and antibiotic free and all that healthy jazz
What is happening is no different than if you meal prepped at home for yourself and then reheated it the next day to eat
This wasnt a secret????
Repeating pre-prepped food was never a secret as far as I knew and it SHOULDNT ne because theres NOTHING WRONG with it.
Not for what is basically a fast food place.
Better for you fast food.. but fast food nonetheless.
The goal (if I remember right) was to get people through their order and holding their food within 10 minutes or less.
That's fast food, honey.
Idk why Panera is treating it as though it was a secret OR why customers are acting so shocked or, especially, upset...?
It was shitty of Panera to fire that girl. Have some transparency for Gods sake.. its not even a bad thing that was happening. Them treating it like it's the nasty underbelly of the company secrets is only going to hurt them because its literally not!! Its normal! ITS TO BE EXPECTED!!!!
But now they're going to get people seeing them trying to treat it like it's bad and then you have a shitty ENTITLED customer uproar.
"Oh no Panera doesnt cook my mac in the back from scratch right there? How dare they!"
I've seen some people saying that and that right there is some serious fucking entitlement.
If you for one second think that it's wrong if them to operate this way
Fight me. Fight me right now. We will throw hands.
Customers who want to act like this is a big deal can get bent
The higher ups of Panera who blew this up and fired a girl for no reason can get bent.
The victim is the girl who was fired over nothing.
And dont yall DARE try to complain to the company until they "make it right" (there is NO WRONG) and start trying to cook your stupid pasta in house
Because that's how you get shittily long wait times. That's how you get overwhelmed employees. And that is how you take something already a bit expensive tbh..And JACK up the price you now have to buy it for.
Keep your entitled mouths shut.
And Panera; get your heads out of your asses.
There is nothing wrong or surprising about reheating pre-prepped food ad a fast food place.

Rivals, Ratings, and Roses part 2
WARNING- sexual themes implies but nothing graphic at all, just in case it makes you uncomfortable!
T’Challa has you pressed against the wall, his full, warm lips moving in synch with yours as hid rough hands pull you closer. He slides his tongue across your bottom lip before you gasp, and he slides it into your mouth. All you can feel his the curls on top of his head under your fingertips, his heart beating against yours. You taste the mint of his toothbrush, smell that divine cologne he always wears, and hear him whisper your name softly.
    ‘’What,’’ you kiss him again.
    ‘’Wake up.’’
    ‘’What?’’
    ‘’WAKE UP!’’
You’re startled out of your dream then, heart threatening to beat right out of your chest as you shoot up in bed.
Your roommates, Wanda Maxinoff and Deena Harris, are staring right at you.
‘’Girl, did you know I can hear you all the way down the hall,’’ Deena raises an eyebrow at you, ‘’I was in the kitchen. You sleep with your door open. I thought you’d brought someone home.’’
‘’Someone named T’Challa, more specifically,’’ Wanda smirks, her eyebrow raised as well.
‘’Did y'all just decide to come in here and raise perfectly arched eyebrows at me? Speaking of which, why are they so arched? Why are they so perfect? Did you get them done without me,’’you question your roommates, getting out of bed and making your way to the bathroom.
Of course, they shuffle off behind you, eager to gossip about the dream you wish that you’d been having.
The dream that seems to be a reoccuring theme in your night time routine.
It seems to go like this lately: you come home, you and your roommates have dinner, you get some work done, you do your nightly shower and skin care routine, you brush your teeth, you read to yourself, you go to bed.
You have an increasingly hot dream about T’Challa, and you wonder where it’s coming from.
He’s a good looking guy, sure. And those lips look amazing, especially when he’s concentrating on  story and he’s biriting it gently and crap, what are you doing?!
He is still the same arrogant man that drives you up the wall, gets under your skin.
So why are you thinking about his lips pressed against yours, his hands on your waist, how his lips taste and whether or not he is a good kisser or not?
Besides, he has a whole girlfriend. He’s been in a relationship with that supermodel, Nakia, ever since you met him. Before that, even. Her photo is on his desk. It’s endearing and annoying.
‘’Girl, he’s got you pressed like a panini,’’ Deena rolls he reyes, gliding into the bathroom and brushing her teeth,
‘’He does not,’’ you insist, cleaning the face cream off, ‘’He is annoying.’’
‘’Annoyingly attractive,’’ Wanda supplies, brushing her hair.
The nice thing about sharing an apartment with these two women is that you can afford the rent, you all work at different places so you can come and talk about your day with new stories, and they aren't anywhere near the subject of your recent dreams.
The bad thing is- three women, one bathroom.
‘’He is insufferable and a pain in the you-know-what,’’ you scoff, the three of you filing out of the bathroom to go to your rooms.
You love these girls, and they are truly your best friends. You’ve known Deena since high school. The first thing she ever said to you was, ‘’Do you want to fight?’’. The second thing she ever said was, ‘’We’re going to be friends.’’ She’s been your best friend ever since.
Wanda you met in college when you worked at a bookshop. Her brother had spent his time hitting on you, and you knew damn well that you didn’t want to get involved with him. She sensed your discomfort, told him to move on, and the two of you spent the rest of your shift together talking about random things and making plans for the weekend.
‘’All I’m saying,’’ Deena begins, her back turned to you as she slides on her jeans, ‘’Is that you have got it B-A-D bad for this man.’’
‘’I do not,’’ you huff out, ‘’Go to work and stop making me try to talk about my feelings.’’
‘’Girl, we all know how you feel about him. I could hear you down the hallway.’’
‘’Goodbye, Deena,’’ you laugh out loud then, sliding on your black pants.
Ramonda is pretty lax about what you wear to work as long as it is presentable. So you wear a blue and white, bellsleebed shirt and black jeans and black ballet flats.
‘’You look nice,’’ Wanda states as you walk into the kitchen where she is setting a cup of orange juice on the table, ‘’Drink up. You have a long day.’’
‘’I won’t if I don’t come up with a story today,’’ you sigh, taking a granola bar off of the table and chomping down, ‘’I should head out, though. I promised Peter I’d walk with him this morning. He thinks taking the scenic route will ‘Clear my mind’ or something.’’
‘’Aww, he’s a good kid,’’ Deena sighs, thinking about the time you’d invited him over for dinner when his Aunt May had to work late.
‘’He is,’’ you agree, grabbing your bag, ‘’Well, I’m off. Have fun at the daycare, Deena. Have fun at the art gallery, Wanda.’’
‘’Will do,’’ they state in unison, and you head out of your apartment and into daytime in New York.
The foot traffic is heavy, so you really have to shuffle to get to Peter’s apartment before seven.
    And… he isn’t there.
‘’He said he called your cell phone,’’ May says, looking at the clock on the stove, ‘’He left about an half hour ago. Said he had to make a run.’’
You look down to see one notification from him nder calls and another under messages.
    Ugh.
    ‘’Alright. Sorry to bother you!’’
‘’No worries! He absolutely adores working with you, by the way,’’ May says fondly, ‘’I’ve never seen him so happy.’’
‘’That’s good to hear. Really. You have a good day,’’ you nod to her, making your way to the elevator and out of his apartment again.
You’re on the subway now, racking your brain for a story idea. Pulling out your phone, you tell Peter to meet you in the lobby so that he can walk up with you in case he forgets his ID.
Because he forgets his ID.
A lot.
‘’It was amazing!,’’ this group of teenagers gushes as you stand on the train, waiting for your destination, ‘’That spider dude totally kicked that guy’s butt.’’
Spider dude?
‘’He really did!,’’ the young girl nods excitedly, flipping her red hair over her shoulders, ‘’I wish I knew how he does it!’’
Color yourself intrigued.
You look up ‘Spider dude’’ then, and tons of videos of someone dressed in red and blue pop up, so you click on one.
He’s swinging from buildings, saving people, shooting something that looks like webs from his wrists…
He’s a modern, real superhero
And you think you’ve just found your story.
Peter  is waiting- for you in the lobby when you arrive at work, holding a cup holder with two iced-coffees and two bagels.
‘’Good morning,’’ he notices the elation on your face, ‘’What’s up? Did you find another meme?  Did someone tell you that you look like a movie star again?’’
‘’Peter, my boy, my news is better than that!’’
‘’ Okay, but ‘Peter, my boy’?’’
‘’Okay, look, I have no idea why I said it like that. The point is, my job, my promotion and your internship are saved. I’m going to need your help, but I know what we will be doing our article on.’’
‘’Yeah,’’ he asks as he follows you onto the elevator, ‘’What’s that?’’
‘’Brace yourself- we are going to an interview on the one, the only, Spider Dude!’’
‘’HAHAHA,’’ Peter laughs nervously before coughing to cover it up, ‘’Why him?’’
‘’No one knows who he is, Peter. He’s literally a masked hero, like a good-old fashioned superhero. He’s obviously just helping because he wants to because nobody knows who he is. Yet. Nobody knows who he is yet. I need you to help me.’’
‘’Are you sure this is what you want to write your paper on?’’
‘’Yes, Peter. I strive for excellence. You know that.’’
You also strive to beat T’Challa for this promotion, but Peter doesn't need to know that right now.
‘’So, Peter, will you help me?’’
He bites his lip then, and shrugs, ‘’I’ll do what’s right.’’
‘’Great,’’ you enter the office, guiding him towards the cubicle, ‘’And thank you for the coffee. You’re a life-saver.’’
‘’You have no idea,’’ he mumbles under his breath, but you elect to ignore it, because you finally have your story.
And not even T’Challa Udaku himself can bring your mood down.
That thought is short-lived because here T’Challa is, leaning against the opening to your cubicle as he greets you.
‘’How can I help you today, Mr. Udaku,’’ you swivel around in your chair, looking away from the laptop that you and Peter are currently huddled in front of.
‘’When you’re done watching videos with your intern, Ramonda would like to see us in her office.’’
You feel a little like a child being called to the principal's office, ut you ask Peter to keep working and follow T’Challa to Ramonda’s office all the way at the other end of the corridor.
‘’So, how are you,’’ he asks, breaking the silence.
‘’Um good. How are you? How long is Shuri here for.’
‘’A week,’’ he shrugs, ‘’I’m good. Tired. Nakia and I went to a party last night.’’
Let’s get one thing straight- you are not jealous of Nakia, okay? You don’t want anything she’s got.
And that pit in the middle of your stomach when T’Challa says her name is just the iced coffee getting to you.
Whatever.
He knocks before entering, and you follow suit.
‘’Hello, my queen,’’ T’Challa beams, using the nickname that he’s called her ever since her first started here, that never fails to get her laughing.
She laughs, greets T’Challa then you, and asks you both to take your seats.
You do, and she begins.
‘’So, I trust that you both came up with stories,’’ she looks to you, somehow mixing authority, concern and awe into her gaze all at the same time.
‘’I have,’’ T’Challa begins to explain, ‘’I thought ‘What’s more amazing than everyday heroes?’. So, I will be interviewing my sister, Shuri. She will start college here in the spring, and she is a STEM genius. In fact she is spearheading an outreach program from Wakanda as we speak to teach others about vibranium and its uses.’’
‘’Fascinating,’’ Ramonda looks at him with wide-eyes, ‘’That is amazing!’’
‘’I thought so, too,’’ T’Challa turns to you, that smirk evident on his face, ‘’What about you?’’
‘’Well, I can’t say that I found a sixteen-year-old stem genius. But I do know what I’m going to do- I am going to have the first, exclusive, one-on-one interview with the one, the only, Spider Dude!’’
Aaaand they’re both staring at you now.
‘’Spider dude,’’ Ramonda looks puzzled.
‘’You mean that guy that saves that buds from falling the other day by slinging, like a net or something?’’
‘’It was more like a web, but yes, T’Challa.’’
‘’What are you going to ask him? Does he speak to spiders?’’
‘’No!,’’ you defend, mentally planning to add that question to your list anyway.
What?
You’re curious.
‘’If you can land that interview,’’ Ramonda begins, ‘’It’ll be huge. I approve of both of your stories. Go and make me proud.’’
You and T’Challa thank her before exiting her office returning to your cubicles.
‘’Good luck with Spider dude, eh? Take some bug spray inc ase he gets on your nerves with hi answers, yeah?’’
‘’Goodbye, T’Challa,’’ you gripe, stalking off to your cubicle…
Where a red rose is waiting for you.
‘’Peter, what is this?’’
‘’Someone delivered it. It was here when I got back from the bathroom.’’
You pick up the single rose, carefully avoiding the thorns and reading the note.
‘’Have a good day, beautiful,’’ it reads.
And it is signed from your secret admirer.
As if you didn’t have enough to think about.
‘’Who is it from,’’ Peter questions.
‘’It does not say,’’ you set it down gently, ‘’No matter. That secret admirer can wait. Peter, you and I have a Spider-man to find. And a story to write. Let’s get to it.’’
And that’s exactly what you do.

Ossy’s Bakery, 130 W Stocker St, Glendale, CA 91202
Tumblr media
Ossy’s is a small Armenian bakery café with a large menu of prepared foods, including bagel sandwiches, sandwiches, omelettes, crepes, breakfast sandwiches, toast, lahmajun, khachapuri, fresh juices, cakes, baked goods, etc. They also seem to be a mini grocery, selling fresh produce, jam, compote, candy, dates, Armenian coffee, etc. While they call themselves a bakery, I didn’t see that many baked goods.
I wanted a tongue sandwich but they were sold out of tongue. I was surprised to see that a tongue sandwich is $20.99. That’s the most expensive tongue sandwich that I’ve seen. In fact, most of their offerings are expensive though the bakery looks humble. A khachapuri is over $20.
Beef liver sandwich (choice of wrap or bread), $17.99 – beef liver, tomato, fresh peppers, special sauce. She recommended the wrap. The wrap seemed to be a spinach tortilla since it was green. I was expecting lavash. The wrap was warmed in a panini press. I was surprised that the filling was very saucy (the sauce seemed to be cooked down tomatoes, onions, and spices). The small chunks of liver were tender. They added a bit of yogurt and lots of peppers. Everything was tasty but very wet/saucy. It was about the size of a burrito.
Lahmajun ($2 each): Thin with more finely minced beef than usual, crispy edges. Tastes better warmed.
While I liked what I ordered, it seems overpriced relative to other Armenian bakeries in town. I sat outside and someone started smoking.
3.5 out of 5 stars

Becoming the Villain Wrangler
So . . . that thing I said earlier I might try? Posting new stuff that’s not pictures? Well, here’s this. It’s a flashbacky sort of scene about characters from my current WIP, Average, Ohio, about superheroes and supervillains in suburban Ohio. It’s about 2.5k, and most of it is hiding behind a cut so it doesn’t clog your dash. Here goes nothing, I guess. Enjoy.
--
She started with Sonos.
She was fourteen, and she knew that Sonos didn’t “do kids.” She knew that 84% of Sonos’s premeditated hostage situations took place in establishments where either coffee, baked goods, or both were available, and she knew that the baked goods and coffee combo hostage situations tended to be safest. So far, at least, no one had died in a Panera or a Starbucks.
She also knew that, despite popular and professional opinion, Sonos’s bakery hostage situations did actually follow something like a pattern. She spent hours and hours in her bedroom surrounded by police reports transcribed and translated into color-coded index cards carefully taped to her blue walls. Nobody ever tried to head off Sonos’s hostage situations because they seemed completely random, the whims of a flighty, unpredictable super with a penchant for drama and chocolate pastries.
But the color-coded, meticulously-arranged index cards on her wall whispered that maybe the whims weren’t so random after all. There was definitely a cycle, even if it wasn’t quite regular—almost every twenty-one to twenty-seven days, except when it was more like forty-five, Average could count on a hostage situation somewhere. And Sonos had four favorite spots to hit: the Panera at the Plaza, the Starbucks off 42, the Bagel Brothers by the schools, or Servatii’s downtown. Sonos very rarely hit the same spot twice in a row, except when she did, and she almost always timed it to the tail end of a weekday rush, except when she didn’t, and she never ever hit a Starbucks in the same month that jewelry stores got robbed.
There was a break-in at Jared’s on Sunday, Bagel Brothers was still being renovated from last month’s super battle, and twenty-two days ago the hostage situation was at Servatii’s.
Maddy Cox had spent every waking moment at the Plaza’s Panera.
It was the second week of her summer vacation, but she’d been preparing for this since April. Every morning at 10:02, she locked up her bike outside the Panera, ordered a smoothie, and parked at the smallest table she could find to do summer work until lunchtime. She was going to be a sophomore, so on top of her reading and essay for English, she had APUSH work to do, too. So far, it had been an uneventful week at Panera, so Maddy was almost done reading Rebecca, which she didn’t think was as bad as all her older friends complained it was.
She was finishing her third panini of the week when Sonos and a small squad of henchpeople stormed the dining room.
“No screaming today, please,” Sonos announced. Her voice came from nowhere and everywhere all at once, even though Maddy watched her lips move. “If you have to panic, use your inside voices and get it out of the way now. Everyone knows how this next bit works, right?”
A woman somewhere to Maddy’s left started to shriek. Behind her mask, Sonos’s eyes narrowed. She was cradling her hostage situation shotgun—the one Maddy tracked to every hold up incident since Amp suppressed her powers years ago at a Graeter’s and left her undermatched—in her left arm, but with her right she reached out and snatched the woman’s attempt at a scream. All the sound in a three-foot radius died, and the woman’s hands flew to her throat.
“Maybe I asked too nicely,” Sonos said quietly. The hairs on Maddy’s arms stood straight up, and a hush only Sonos could have intensified fell over the dining room. “Don’t. Scream.”
The woman gulped a few breaths of air silently and nodded. Sonos released her hold on the sound, which died away like it had never existed. By that point, the henchpeople had taken up their posts around the dining room, and a few were herding employees out of the kitchen. The henchpeople were armed—they were always armed—and Maddy forced herself to take a few calming breaths. She would be okay. Sonos didn’t do kids, after all. Maddy would be fine. She just needed her window of opportunity.
“Better,” Sonos said with a nod. “Now, who’s the manager, here?”
The next few minutes passed like déjà vu. Maddy had read so many reports about it that she knew the script: The manager emptied the safe, got Sonos however many pastries she asked for, and resumed being hostaged with her employees; the henchpeople made their rounds through the dining room gathering cash and other valuables that were easy to turn into cash; all phones except for one were confiscated, and guests were told to pack up their things. As Maddy packed up her APUSH homework, an odd sense of calm washed over her. She had, after all, been planning this for months. She’d even purchased a brand-new two-pocket folder with brads for the occasion.
Now her backpack was full and zipped on the floor beside her chair, the yellow folder was next to her empty plate, and Sonos was making her dining room rounds to dismiss unsuitable hostages, namely those under eighteen and their parents or guardians. Maddy watched her send two young families, a set of grandparents with a gaggle of ten-year-olds, three girls Maddy recognized from school, and two very pregnant people to the booth Maddy thought of as the escape hatch by the side door.
Then Sonos approached Maddy’s table, without the shotgun because she always left it on the counter when she dealt with minors and their responsible adults, and gestured. “You too, kid. Up.”
Maddy took another deep breath and stood, pulling both straps of her backpack over her shoulders and scooping the folder off the table. “Um, actually, Ms. Sonos, if you have a minute I was wondering if we could talk.”
Her voice came out squeakier than she wanted it to, which she remembers even years later, and even though she’d spent hours rehearsing in front of the mirror she still hadn’t been able to keep the vocal pause from slipping out, but every time she hears Sonos tell the story the villain kindly skips over that part. Instead, Sonos makes her sound brave. She likes when Sonos tells it.
Sonos hesitated, her mask deforming at her forehead in what Maddy later understands as a double eyebrow raise, and said, “You realize this is a hostage situation, right?”
Maddy nodded. “Yeah. I’ve been waiting all week.” She offered the yellow folder, where she had written SONOS in the top right corner in her neatest handwriting in black Sharpie. “I have some ideas.”
Sonos’s mask deformed further, and a tinkling laugh like wind chimes escaped her lips and breezed through the dining room. For a moment, Maddy became very aware that they had a wide-eyed, terrified audience, and she forced herself to focus on Sonos again. This was probably her only shot to make this work.
“You a super? Cuz I don’t do sidekicks. Or kids,” Sonos said.
Maddy shook her head. “No, I’m just ordinary. I don’t want to be a sidekick. I want to handle your public relations.”
“I’m a supervillain, kid. PR is a thing that happens to heroes.”
“And I don’t think it’s fair that they get all the good press,” Maddy says. “Supervillains are people, too, not just monsters.”
“But monsters sometimes?” Sonos asked.
Maddy held her gaze. “Everyone is a monster sometimes.”
Sonos studied her face for a few nerve-wrackingly long seconds. Maddy didn’t look away, but became aware of one of the henchpeople moving. It was so quiet in the dining room that even Maddy could hear the number pad on the one unconfiscated cellphone as the henchperson started to dial.
“Wait,” Sonos said, still looking at Maddy but rerouting her voice so it was very clearly directed at the lead henchperson. “There’s been a change in plans, Larry. No hostages today.”
Larry ended the call before it connected and said, “Sure thing, boss. What do you need?”
Sonos considered for a moment or two and said, “A couple smoothies and an empty building.”
“You got it,” Larry said with a nod. He separated the store manager from the rest of the employees to have her make the smoothies before reorganizing his crew to herd the hostages quietly outside.
By the time the manager had finished the smoothies and brought them to the booth Sonos had seated Maddy at, the Panera had emptied. Only Sonos, Maddy, Larry, and the manager were left, and Larry handed the bag of confiscated cellphones to the manager before hurrying her out the door and issuing instructions too quiet for Maddy to hear. Sonos called, “I’ll be in touch, Larry,” after him, and Larry nodded and vanished. Sonos and Maddy were alone.
Sonos pushed one of the strawberry banana smoothies across the table toward Maddy before taking a sip of her own. “All right, kid, I’m officially curious. What’ve you got?”
Maddy cleared her throat, hoping she wouldn’t squeak again, and opened the yellow folder. It wasn’t quite a perfect match to Sonos’s suit, but it was close, and it made Sonos smile. “I’ve been volunteering at the children’s hospital for a while, specifically with community involvement.”
Sonos was still slurping her smoothie, but she nodded. “Ah. Wound up with the Be-a-Hero Foundation?”
Maddy nodded. “Sort of. Just the logistics side—figuring out which kids wanted to talk to which super.”
“Cute.”
“It was pretty cool,” Maddy admitted, “to see their faces light up when their hero walked into their room. Every kid, every time.”
“Do-gooders have that effect, I’ve been told.”
“Supers in general have that effect,” Maddy said. Sonos’s eyebrow arched, and for an instant Maddy wondered if she should scale it back, if she was being too forward, but the instant passed and Sonos didn’t seem angry. Just curious. Maddy pulled a patient profile—one she technically wasn’t supposed to have, but she’d gotten approval from Kyoko’s parents so she thought it would be okay—out of the right-hand pocket and pushed it toward Sonos. Sonos set aside her smoothie to study the sheet, which had a color photo of Kyoko at the park and some basic information.
“Cute kid,” Sonos said after a couple seconds.
“Her name is Kyoko,” Maddy said. “She loves swimming and horseback riding, and her favorite band is One Direction. She has stage three brain cancer and maybe three months left to live.”
Sonos’s lips set into a thin line, and Maddy realized that the super probably wasn’t that much older than her. She’d only been villaining in Average for a couple of years, and most supers started fairly young. Now that Maddy was seated across from her, she saw how smooth Sonos’s brown skin was, except for a concealed zit on her chin. She was probably early twenties, if even that, which was still old but not, like, parents old. That was weird.
“Because she’s terminal, she’s eligible for the Be-a-Hero Foundation,” Maddy continued. “And when I asked her who she wanted to meet, she said you.”
Sonos frowned. “Come again?”
“She wants to meet you, Ms. Sonos. She says you have the coolest costume and the coolest power and she wants to be able to break things with sound when she grows up.”
Sonos silently laid the profile flat on the table again. For a few seconds, the dining room seemed unnaturally silent. Maddy counted time to keep her nerves under control and let Sonos think.
After two full minutes, Sonos exhaled a, “Huh,” and sound resumed. “That’s sweet and all, but there’s no way her parents would go for it.”
Maddy shook her head. “No, I checked explicitly with her parents, and they think it’s a long shot that you’d do it but they’d be cool with it if you were. They just want Kyoko to be happy.”
Sonos lifted an eyebrow. “And the hospital? And the Foundation?”
“If you were willing to see Kyoko, I would deal with them.”
“And law enforcement?”
Maddy nodded. “There’d be something horrible about arresting a super who was visiting sick kids in the hospital, right? My dad is on the force, and he said that was true. I could deal with that part, too.”
“Why?”
Maddy frowned. “I don’t understand. Why what?”
“Why are you doing this? What do you get out of it?”
“Oh. Well, I think it’s important for the kids. Plus, if I want to get into good colleges, I need to have a long-term community service project.”
“And you picked wrangling supervillains? You’re what, fifteen? Sixteen?”
“Fourteen,” Maddy said, and Sonos laughed her wind chime laugh.
“Ambitious, for sure. Seriously: Why supervillains?”
Maddy hesitated. She’d known that Sonos would ask—Sonos always asked—and she’d known what her response would be. It was just that the whole situation was more intense than she’d anticipated. Even volunteering at the hospital, she hadn’t been this close to a super for this long, and she’d certainly never held a conversation like this one.
“Because you’re people, too,” she finally said. “We’re all in this together, and everyone should get a chance to do good.”
“I’ve got chances to do good all day every day. I choose not to.”
“But you’ve never gotten a chance to choose Kyoko before.”
After another moment, Sonos sighed. Maddy continued laying out her ideas and rationales about why, in the long run, having some positive PR on the villainy front would benefit Sonos. She left Kyoko’s profile on the table as she walked Sonos through the rest of the folder’s contents.
At the third repetition of “Ms. Sonos,” Sonos said, “Just call me Sonos, kid,” and ten minutes later, when Maddy had done all her explaining and Sonos had taken it all in, she asked, “What’s your name?”
“Maddy. Maddy Cox.”
Sonos smiled and finished her smoothie. “Well, Maddy. I’ll think on it. Give me a couple days and I’ll get back to you.”
Maddy beamed. “Great! My number and email are in here—you can call or text or email or whatever. This is for you.”
Sonos smiled when Maddy offered her the folder. “Came prepared, huh?”
Maddy nodded enthusiastically. “Yeah! I, um, sort of figured out your pattern—don’t worry, I didn’t tell anyone or anything, your secret’s safe with me—so I’ve been waiting all week.”
“I’m impressed, kid. Maddy.”
Maddy felt a blush creep up her neck, and she stood when Sonos did. Sonos offered a hand, which Maddy shook, and then Sonos asked her to stay in the booth for two more minutes while Sonos cleared the scene. Maddy did, Sonos left, and two minutes later she walked out of the Panera for a very weird encounter with the police. When her parents showed up, they weren’t thrilled, but they agreed to see where things went because it was important to Maddy and everyone knew Sonos didn’t do kids.
Four days later, Maddy got a call from a restricted number, and Sonos said she’d give it a whirl. It took Maddy two weeks to get everything squared away with the hospital, and the Foundation, and law enforcement, but on the third Thursday in June, Maddy and Sonos and a very skittish guard detail walked into Mercy Children’s.
It made Kyoko’s whole year.
The visit was so successful that it was easy to persuade Sonos to come again for Ben, and for Jake, and Rachel, and Maya. Once Maddy was comfortable with Sonos, she asked the super if maybe Ratman or Firebrand would be interested, and Sonos passed along her proposition. Soon Maddy was the liaison for the villains, much like how Shanu Adebayo was the hero herder.
It was Sonos who eventually affectionately dubbed her the Villain Wrangler.

THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO DINING ON A CRUISE WITH KIDS
Tumblr media
The best part of a family vacation is all the new experiences you share together. But sometimes that same excitement doesn’t apply to mealtime, where new foods can be a challenge for the littlest travelers. At the Dolphin cruise in St Pete Beach FL, there are so many choices for delicious dining that every meal can be easy — even with a picky eater in tow.
WINDJAMMER
When you’re on vacation with your family, it can be tough to find a casual, no-fuss restaurant that caters to everyone in the group. Windjammer is the perfect spot for just that. Every cruise ship in the fleet has one, and they all offer complimentary breakfast, lunch and dinner in a laid back self-serve buffet-style setting kids love.
In the mornings, you’ll find stations heaped with traditional breakfast options like eggs, bacon, yogurt, fresh fruit and cereal, plus dishes from around the world, like Italian rope sausage, sugar-dusted Berliners, and southern-style fried chicken and waffles.
On some ships, there’s even a made-to-order omelet station. There is also plenty of choices for the little ones, including traditional pancakes and waffles.
THE MAIN DINING ROOM
Like Windjammer, the Main Dining Room is another fleetwide complimentary dining option that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with lots of variety to choose from.
While most cruises host a formal night that allows guests the option to get glammed up, the usual attire when having dinner in the Main Dining Room is resort casual — that means sun dresses, nice slacks, blouses and collared shirts. Breakfast and lunch allow for more relaxed attire.
With its sophisticated décor and personalized wait service, the atmosphere in the Main Dining Room is more upscale than the casual vibes you’ll experience at Windjammer, but it’s still a family-friendly dining option for anyone traveling with small kids.
Breakfast and lunch in the Main Dining Room both offer the choice between a self-serve buffet of classic hot and cold dishes and à la carte menu items.
The dinner menu features a rotating assortment of global selections and classic staples that don’t change, all of which are completely customizable to suit your preferences or dietary needs. And for little ones, a kids’ menu highlights easy-to-eat comfort foods like chicken tenders, burgers, pizza, spaghetti and more.
BEST BITES WHEN YOU’RE ON-THE-GO
CAFÉ PROMENADE
Café Promenade is another casual complimentary option available on all Oasis Class ships, as well as Quantum, Freedom and Voyager Class ships. Open 24 hours every day, it steals the title of ‘most convenient’ snack-spot onboard. Whether you feel like indulging in breakfast pastries with your morning cup of coffee, light sandwiches at lunch, a sweet treat or a glass of your go-to wine, you can count on Café Promenade to cater to every craving, no matter what time of day.
JOHNNY ROCKETS
At Johnny Rockets, you can treat yourself and your little ones to rich handspun milkshakes, perfectly grilled burgers, and crispy golden waffle fries served with an extra dose of quintessential Americana.
This iconic retro-inspired diner is the perfect place to stop in with the kids for a quick bite and a side of nostalgia. Johnny Rockets has a modest cover charge for lunch and dinner, and offers complimentary breakfast on Allure, Harmony, Oasis and Symphony of the Seas.
SORRENTO'S
Sometimes, nothing beats the classic simplicity of a well-made pizza — and that’s exactly what you’ll find at Sorrento’s. This popular onboard eatery elevates every slice to delicious new heights. Baked in a stone oven and topped with the freshest ingredients, the pies at Sorrento’s hit the spot whether you’re stopping by for a quick snack with your little ones in between onboard thrills, or satisfying late-night cravings after an evening spent dancing at Boleros or Club Twenty while the kids are having a blast at Adventure Ocean.
And while pizza is certainly the star attraction at Sorrento’s, you’ll also find a variety of antipasti, salads and desserts — all complimentary, of course.
PARK CAFÉ
All Oasis Class ships have a complimentary Park Café — you’ll also find it on some Radiance and Vision Class ships. In the mornings, Park Café serves cereal, sweet treats and some hot dishes. It’s also the only restaurant onboard with a full bagel station. But the real star of the show at Park Cafe is the legendary Kummelweck.
Featuring two slices of roast beef, slow roasted for 12 hours and placed on a fresh baked roll, this lunchtime sandwich has become something of a fan favorite. The restaurant also serves healthy made-to-order salads, fresh-pressed panini and deli classics.
DOG HOUSE
If you think this is your average hot dog stand, think again. A favorite among cruisers, The Dog House is all about making lip-smacking gourmet sausages packed with flavor and inspired by different places around the world — like “The Sicilian,” made with pork, garlic, oregano and Italian spices in a parmesan and cheddar baguette, “The Big Apple,” a chicken sausage blended with juicy bits of apple, and the bestselling “Wünderdog,” made in the traditional Austrian style with 100% delicate veal.
This quick and easy casual spot available on selected ships is a favorite grab-and-go dining option that’s popular among little kids, teenagers and adults. Dog House serves up specialty hot dogs and sides like sauerkraut, sautéed onions and potato salad every day for lunch and dinner, and it’s all included in your cruise fare.
EL LOCO FRESH
As far as grab-and-go dining options are concerned, El Loco Fresh is a proven hit among kids. True to its name, the all-new El Loco Fresh serves up insanely delicious Mexican fare like savory beef burritos, flavor-filled fish tacos, tasty carnitas and cheesy quesadillas — not to mention classic mole sauce, creamy and refreshing guacamole and a salsa bar that caters to all levels of spice lovers.
Open daily for lunch on Symphony and Navigator of the Seas, El Loco Fresh is a great complimentary option for explorers of all ages.
FAVORITES THE WHOLE FAMILY WILL LOVE
PLAYMAKERS SPORTS BAR & ARCADE
Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade doesn’t just deliver on delicious food kids will love — it also offers endless hours of entertainment for adventurers in every age group. The à la carte menu spotlights game day classics like buffalo wings, sliders and the signature Playmakers Burger, which adults can pair with icy cold domestic and international drafts.
Kid-friendly options off the Pee Wee menu include cornflake-breaded chicken tenders and a juicy all-beef Home Run Hamburger that’s the perfect size for little hands and smaller appetites.
For dessert, kids can dig in to the Campfire Cookie — a warm homemade chocolate chip delight topped with gooey melted marshmallow and rich Nutella — or the massive perfect-for-sharing Touchdown Sundae, served in a mini football helmet. Once you and your squad are done chowing down, the whole family can get their game on in the arcade with a round of Skee-ball, Connect 4, Ms. Pacman or Super Mario Racing — the list goes on.
ITALIAN FAVES: JAMIE’S ITALIAN BY JAMIE OLIVER AND GIOVANNI’S KITCHEN
If you’re in the mood for homemade flavors inspired by the Mediterranean, it doesn’t get better than the two Italian dining concepts Royal Caribbean has brought to life onboard: Jamie’s Italian by Jamie Oliver and Giovanni’s Table.
Helmed by one of Britain’s most famous celebrity chefs, Jamie’s Italian serves Tuscan-inspired dishes on Harmony and Symphony of the Seas, the Royal Amplified Mariner and Navigator of the Seas, and Quantum Class ships, while Giovanni’s Table spotlights rustic trattoria-style classics on Oasis and Allure of the Seas, all Voyager and Radiance Class ships, plus several others across the fleet.
Both are smart casual specialty restaurants that offer hearty Italian comfort food like lasagna, bruschetta and homemade focaccia, antipasti and salads, and a delicious selection of pasta often served family-style so that it’s perfect for sharing.
If you’re dining with a group at Jamie’s Italian, you should definitely order the Famous Plank — a shareable app loaded with cured meats, artisanal cheeses and tart pickles.
A SWEET BONUS ON SYMPHONY OF THE SEAS
SUGAR BEACH
If you happen to be cruising onboard Symphony of the Seas or the newly amplified Navigator of the Seas and you have a sweet tooth, you’ll definitely want to check out Sugar Beach on the Boardwalk. Stocked from floor to ceiling with all kinds of creative confections and indulgent ice creams, this new addition to the Royal Caribbean roster of edible delights is a can’t miss stop for a decadent pick-me-up.
In this colorful candy oasis, both children and adults can treat themselves to tasty sweets priced by the ounce or per piece. The shop also regularly hosts family-friendly activities, like cupcake decorating classes.

Eater Staffers on the Kitchen Tools They Can’t Live Without
Tumblr media
Shutterstock
These pots and pans, appliances, and utensils have made cooking in quarantine a little bit easier
As the weeks of social distancing and recommendations to stay home as much as possible stretch on, cooking has taken on both more urgency and more burden. Luckily, there are products that, whether by intention or not, can ease the load, making spending so much time cooking so much easier.
Below, a roundup of the tools and products that have made Eater editors’ kitchen lives better. And if you’re looking for more on what to cook with said tools, check out our guide for folks who literally never cook as well as our pantry-cooking guide.
Pots and Pans
Whirlpool nonstick griddle
“Maybe the best part of a recent move has been playing with the nonstick griddle that straddles two burners atop my new stove. I’ve used it to char tomatoes, peppers, and garlic cloves for salsa, revive leftover steak, toast slices of sourdough, and inflate Indian chapati to accompany this cilantro chutney chicken recipe. A quick wipe down keeps it clean, so that accounts for one less dish to wash while the sink piles up.” — Gabriel Hiatt, Eater DC editor

“I never knew that I could fall in love with my wok, but here I am. This wok brings me so much joy when I’m cooking. It’s sturdy so it can hold a lot of stuff; it’s big enough to cook a family-sized portion. The pan’s marbling coat makes sure that nothing gets stuck on the bottom, from braising short ribs to frying eggs. I use this pan for everything from stews to fried rice; it’s incredibly versatile! I know it’s overwhelming to look through different wok options, but for home cooks who want to cook many different dishes without having to clean up any residuals, this is the one. The price is also extremely affordable, so what’s not to love?” — James Park, social media manager
Great Jones sheet pan
“This is the first ‘fancy’ sheet pan I’ve ever had, generally preferring basics from restaurant supply stores or else the cheapest available from retailers like Williams-Sonoma. Intrigued by the company’s promise that it doesn’t warp, I ordered one last year and have not been disappointed. Since shelter-in-place started, though, I’ve found myself reaching for it over my other sheet pans, and I’m 99 percent sure it’s because the vibrant color stands out among my pans and makes cooking feel that much more lively. I’ve used it to make cookies, nachos, and all sorts of roasted vegetables, but also as a Bananagrams board and a photo backdrop.” — Hillary Dixler Canavan, restaurant editor
Appliances
Panasonic toaster oven
“I grew up in a toaster oven family — even now, everyone in my immediate family has the same one — but even I, a super fan, did not fully appreciate the appliance until I moved in late March, just as the COVID-19 outbreak hit NYC, and found myself living in an apartment with no gas for about a week and a half. As a result, I spent a lot of time with my toaster oven, sometimes cooking three square meals a day in it. It’s fast and versatile, good for so many things: roasting vegetables, baking brownies and small cakes, and, of course, just toasting bread or bagels or nuts and spices.” — Sonia Chopra, director of editorial growth
Ninja Express Chop
“I never really thought I needed a food processor — big or small, really — until I got the Ninja Express Chop. I had somehow managed to avoid all recipes that required one, since it seemed so bulky to move and a pain to clean. Once I got the Ninja Express Chop, all that changed. It’s small and easy to fit in the cabinet; and it easily comes apart into four simple pieces, all of which fit in my sink or dishwasher, so I don’t mind cleaning it, even when it’s coated with oil from herby salad dressings or flecks of basil from my homemade pesto — all things I never would have made until I got it.” — Ellie Krupnick, managing editor
OXO tea kettle
“Weirdly enough, I have been relying heavily on a tea kettle. I’ve been using it every single day at various times to boil water. I start with it in the morning to make oatmeal for breakfast and continue throughout the day to make tea and repurpose hot tea for iced to switch it up. I am trying to stay as hydrated as possible while I am home.” — Stephen Pelletteri, executive producer
Anova sous vide machine
“We’ve been using the Anova to cook large portions of pork shoulder that we then eat for days and days in tacos, ramen, and more. It’s a multi-day process including a 24-hour sous vide, 24 hours in the fridge, and then oven-roasting before pulling — lots of time, but mostly hands-off. (Try J. Kenji López-Alt’s recipe to start, and then experiment with your own variations. We’ve enjoyed adding a molasses glaze before it goes in the oven.) Hint: Reserve the cooked pork juices after the sous vide process to use with ramen — boil with the water in a one-to-one ratio for the best fancied up packaged ramen you’ve had.” — Rachel Leah Blumenthal, Eater Boston editor
Hamilton Beach panini press
“My cheap-ass panini maker is so much more than a device on which to make grilled cheese, even though that’s its most common use. It’s also a lovely way to make toast (that’s a grilled cheese sans cheese) or just warm up bread enough to apply butter. Going further off-label, I’ve been using it to cook up frozen hash brown patties (they’re done in a flash with a nice crispy crust, way better than the 20 minutes in the oven version) and grill baby asparagus (while full-sized asparagus is too girthy to cook completely, the babies do just fine). Is this why people bought George Foreman grills back in the day?” — Eve Batey, Eater San Francisco senior editor
Utensils
Sur La Table fish spatula
“I’m an evangelist for this tool even under normal circumstances, and have gifted it more times than I can count. One of its purposes is obvious from its name: it’s great for flipping fish without having it break apart or damaging the skin. But I find myself using it daily, whether it’s to remove my meatloaf from its loaf pan or lift up a focaccia to see if it’s browning underneath.” — Missy Frederick, cities director
McoMce plastic bench scraper
I’ve gotten really, really tired of cleaning my kitchen during shelter-in-place, but this plastic bench scraper is a life-saver. It’s good for pushing dough out of bowls or scraping stubborn bits out of pots and pans, but I mostly use it to clean my kitchen sink. It makes quick work of collecting food scraps without having to pile them all into my hand (yuck). Once I’m done cleaning, I rinse it with a bit of soap, so that it’s ready to cut cinnamon rolls, collect herbs on my cutting board, and clean the sink — again.” — Elazar Sontag, staff writer
Storage
Comfy Package plastic kitchen containers
“During this time where I’ve been cooking a lot and ordering a lot of food, plastic food storage containers have been my saviors. It’s a habit I picked up from my dad, who works at a New York City market. The multiple sizes, from the slim eight-ounce cups to the large 32-ounce containers, makes it easy to store anything, from leftover cream cheese to portioned-out frozen lentil soup. The sizes also make it easier to downsize leftovers in the fridge, thus clearing up space for more food.” — Nadia Chaudhury, Eater Austin editor
Ball glass jars
“Last summer we had a crazy infestation of pantry moths, so on the advice of our exterminator I started saving all of my glass jars to store flours and cereals and other moth-attracting ingredients in. Now that my pantry is more valuable than ever, I’m using these jars to keep all of my bulk staples like beans, grains, and pastas organized and easily visible. I use old peanut butter jars for the most part (my kids go through a jar a week), but I’d actually advise going a little bigger if you’re buying them new, with some wide-mouth half-gallon Ball jars or invest in some fancy straight-sided ones like these wood-topped ones from Target.” — Lesley Suter, travel editor
Other Stuff
Final Touch rocks glass with ice ball
“I wanted to up my Manhattan game during the coronavirus pandemic, and the only new tool I bought was this rocks glass that includes a silicone mold to make a round ice cube. The rocks glass has a glass cylinder at the bottom so the round ice cube will roll around the bottom of the glass. It feels sophisticated to drink out of this glass, almost like I’m at a restaurant instead of at home.” — Susan Stapleton, Eater Vegas editor
Aerogarden countertop garden
“Two words: Breakfast salad. Yep, That’s been a thing in my life anytime I have my AeroGarden up and running and this quarantine called for it. Fresh herbs and lettuce in just a few weeks. I even threw some wild flowers in this time for some much needed cheer. Take that shallots-in-a-jar.” — Maureen Giannone Fitzgerald, production executive
