The differences in cultures and behaviors between different fandoms is so fascinating to me, I love just musing on the various differences

Back in my Warrior Cats phase on scratch there was barely an single fanart of canon characters, everything was original characters and original clans.

During my time in the Genshin Impact fandom people would play with the various canon character elements to make new characters but there wasn't quite the level of wholly divorced from canon stories there.

There was shipping tho! An absolutely unhinged amount of shipping. Every single character who wasn't a literal child had at least one, maybe two default/mainstream ship partners that most people shipped them with, then a handful of rarer ships as well

Then I moved to Dream SMP 'cus I heard that it had a lot of platonic relationships that were so popular that they made it into the top 100 ao3 ships multiple years in a row, and I was getting pretty romanced out by Genshin at that point so it seemed like a perfect choice.

And it was! Dream SMP had the best platonic relationship representation of any fandom I've been in before or since. But it has the dark flipside to it, where the reason was partially because the fans were freaking off the rails toxic and hostile to the mere suggestion that any character might ever be attracted to another

The Hermitcraft and Life Series are better with platonic relationships than Genshin Impact, but nowhere near as good as DSMP, with the return of a handful of mainstream ships, but not the pressure to have a ship for every single character

Then there's the fascinating ways MCYT fandoms had every characters' designs and even species up in the air and it's common place to just make any random guy part any random animal, which is incredible fun

But then OCs in the MCYT fandom are a whole other thing, as they tend to come most in the Warriors style where they come out of fanmade servers and tend to be fairly divorced from canon most of the time, only generally inspired by the setting

And now in the Magnus Archives fandom we've got the canon ships, with one specific one vastly dominating the whole fandom to even more extremes than any singular Genshin ship ever reached, which I've gathered is a pretty common experience in other fandoms but this has been my first time actually experiencing it first hand

And TMA has a similar thing with Warrior Cats where it works really well as a set of world building that can be shoved upon other fictional characters for some fun AUs, which was never really a thing with MCYT (though I think it kinda was with Genshin Impact, to a degree, where people would draw other characters in Genshin splash art style and assign them Visions and all that.)

Warriors is by far the most extreme of these, up with My Little Pony in terms of how you're almost guaranteed to see at least one fanart of the characters in any fandom drawn as warrior cats/ponies

And then there's the popular AU types! Genshin Impact was chock full of highschool AUs. Dream SMP had Foster Family AUs and Superhero AUs galore (especially with SBI), but it also had a smaller Humans Are Space Orcs / Alien AUs phenomen that I've not been able to find again in my other fandoms since. I never read enough Life Series and Hermitcraft fanfic to get a good grasp on their popular AUs, but various flavour of Modern AU with the characters assigned random jobs seemed common, and they had a lot of Superhero AUs spawned by HoTGuY. TMA is mostly everyone is happy AUs, like No Paranormal Nonsense AUs and Happily Ever After Post Canon AUs, but also a whole heckin' lot of Time Travel (usually fix-it fic) AUs, which is something I never really saw in the other fandoms

I don't have a good ending to this post as there's no real point to it, it's just me babbling about fandoms

i got into falsettos after watching a life series (minecraft yt series) animatic to the last 40 seconds of 'this had better come to a stop' and became so obsessed with that little part that i listened to it non stop for two weeks until i caved in and watched the show.....

the birth of desertduo grian and scar prepared me for this. the continuation of desertduo into double life. the bad boys in limited life and grian being an absolute menace with the tnt mine carts and how the sky meant death for any player down below. the insanity of the ladder podcast. this prepared me for qsmp purgatory and i will not explain how or why, it just did. believe me.

Its so interesting, from a character standpoint, of Grian’s involvement in shows.

From the insane series that was from sam, where he clearly suffered, forced to witness Death, to bear the Dead’s name and clothes, and tormented so much more still.

To Evo, which he did make, but was later hijacked by Watchers, turning from simple intrigue to to the ever present dread of what would come next. If it was ‘simple’ or if their next test would result in Disapproval, which Grian knew all too well and all too much. If it would hurt just him, if he was to draw their ire upon him (and away from his Players, his Friends, real actual loving friends, who did not deserve the torment) or if They were to gaze upon his only true friends, would that mean their Death? And if it came to that, he would, he will, he did Sacrifice all that he was to save them from Their Lash.

And then onto Hermitcraft. He was free. He learned to be free, to be more than he was conditioned to be, from his so-called friend, to those that (finally) rule far far away from him. Bringing him healing, bringing him love; for himself, for his life, for His Hermits, and the worlds they live on. He was able to become himself once more, without his fears to become fact, because he is truly Home with Kind and Stubborn and Brave, Courageous being to support him.

And when His new Cravings, New needs, ran so low, and hungered him to starvation, He Created. He Created a world where everyplayer would always know the stakes the reason. The Why.

And these Crazy Insane mostly mortal people Volunteered? They obliged his needs? Happily and eagerly? Well. If He knew where his Heart was, (he did, worlds upon worlds, and galaxies far far away), it simply would just Quake and Tremble and Burst with Love for His Players, Friends and Strangers alike.

Maybe his new Life was not so horrible, nor was it a curse, or some Cosmic Punishment for what he had done, or did not do. Because, after all. The Universe said I Love You, because You are Love.

Oh absolutely!!! I love my Coffee Shop AU!! Like, so much!!!

It's mostly centered around the members of the CTHL discord (Chasing The Horizon Line), with mentions and appearances of the Hermits and others! There's so many ideas that have been put out there and will be written out eventually.

I also don't have much written just yet, but there's a bunch of relationship funs that I just. I'd go feral over! XD

Alright, for a proper summary tho:

With Melon and Nine being co-owners of a café called Coffee On The Horizon, as well as a lovely rag tag team of interesting people as their workers. Opening up shop on more of the outskirts of the big city shopping district, bordering the housing district, and in the month of September. Catching the eyes of many that the workers know and love. With many interesting adventures and conversations, there's bound to be good times and bonding time.

I'm realizing I'm horrible with summaries... Whoops. XD Anyway! For the bits that are written thus far we've got our resident Cubfan135 fan meeting Cub. Not sure where the second portion is going, I just randomly started writing. It does involve open mic night, so I might be trying to do something with Bdubs and Z.I.T.S.... not sure exactly tho! 😁 Then the last part that I've been working on writing is us dealing with a gender fluid bitch. Then there's this cool and fun idea that involves MCC, which I so wanna write about already!

I am having to take a break tho because even though I wanna write it, I'm unable to actually write. I'm able to write some of my other things finally tho!! But yeah, the Coffee Shop AU is by far one of my favorites. Me and another person having a relationship similar to that of Impy and Skizz (I'm Skizz and she's Impy). We have a few members who have sibling relationships, like one of my lovely best friends and one other who is her little sister (She's said that she's just the server's little sister, and she's amazing). Then another member who we're saying is my adopted brother (I was the one adopted, I think... I can't remember XD).

There are many more fun things that I'd love to gush about, but I've already made this pretty long. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask away, or if you wanna know about any of the other things, I'd LOVE to share about those too!!

oh I agree 10000% it's so fun to see creators fight against eachother in groups multiple series have been made from this (see every single Life Series)

but if it's a dnd inspired smp, I think they should have a BBEG, so the factions that are (pretend) fighting eachother have to (for real) work together to save The Realm

If you don't want to watch creators create cool stories by pretending to hate eachother and create factions then go somewhere else and watch paint dry or something idc

Joel winning the Life Series where he centered his entire gimmick this season around Family under the guise of "Joel Toretto" makes me insane because he was alone for so long in the Life Series and it works out so perfectly that the guy who was allergic to allies for the start of the life series and had to be forced into it with soulmates wins the season he focuses on Family. Poetic cinema.

1. Third Life Joel. No friends. No allies. He joined up with Monopoly Mountain last minute and died out of sight of either of them, mostly alone. He had a house full of dogs, not full of friends (and where is that familiar?), and nobody really mourned him when he was gone, offhand comments and brief "Oh No!s" following his death. Being alone got him nothing.

2. Last Life Joel. No friends. He's alone again, for the most part. In Last Life there's a lot of unknowns, a lot of instability- people can get back in yellow or green, or they try, so Joel has temporary red alliances with the likes of Scar and Grian but they don't last. He's alone. Again. Joel laments it, in one of his videos, IIRC, that he's bad at making allies, and "look at where it got him". The closest person he had to an ally in Last Life was Grian when they were both red, Grian seeing first hand how insane and blood thirsty Joel becomes on red. They call themselves the Deadliest Duo, and they kill people, and they laugh when they die. But Joel dies, still, killed by Scott, shortly after Grian permadies.

3. Double Life. Now it's different. Now we're seeing some changes. Joel gets put with Etho, who off the bat immediately considers him a liability, a notion he rejects and fights against to get Etho to respect him. He builds Etho a ship to try and impress him. Etho purposefully takes fall damage to remind him of what's at stake. He's not just a lone wolf, anymore, Etho's life is in his hands and he's not happy about it. Joel hates it, being treated fragile and like a bomb to go off. Eventually, they find out they work together well, they get killed, they go red and Joel goes crazy. Red rage is a real, definable, re-occuring phenomenon for Joel, he IS angry and he DOES want to make people pay. Etho in the life series is usually more reserved, and he holds Joel back, yes, but Joel also helps Etho out of his shell and pushes him to do things he wouldn't normally do. The ship burns everything burns. And then they burned. And Joel's first real alliance goes up in flames, literally.

4. Now Joel has a taste of what it's like to not be alone the entire season. He teams up with Jimmy and Grian, his Bad Boys, and he's fiercely loyal to them, and then to him. (Even Grian by his standards is FIERCELY loyal to the Bad Boys- I mean, he doesn't even kill one of them! I think. Not permanently?) He changes his skin, matching leather jackets, these are his people. And he'd die for his people. Joel and Grian try their best to keep Jimmy alive, Joel going so far as to say he'd have sacrificed himself to keep Jim alive, but it wasn't enough, he wasn't quick enough, and he died right afterwards, leaving Grian alone. But he wasn't alone. And he didn't go out alone.

5. Secret Life is.... weird. He has allies, yes, but it's a bit of a strange situation, he allies with the Mounders and he lives a bit of a ways away from them, not quite in the group but not quite out of it. But he doesn't want to be alone again. He knows what happens when you're alone in this game, and he doesn't ever want that to happen to him again. Mumbo goes out almost immediately following Jimmy, the third to go out. Pearl IIRC betrays the Mounders and messes around with Gem, which is really funny given the events of Wild Life. It's only him and Bdubs at the end, both murdered by Scott.

6. Now. Wild Life. Again. Joel knows what happens if you're alone in this series, and he never wants it to happen to him again. So he bases his persona around a movie character, one that everyone knows and likes, he thinks. He makes himself someone that he thinks people will want to befriend, one where he won't have to be alone. He makes himself look strong, fake muscles clumsily attached to his arms, quoting about family and the importance of it, a vast difference from the lonely man in 3rd Life and Last Life who couldn't be assed to find allies. And it works. He has Gem- and everyone fears them, for once. Everyone already knows Joel is insane, but with Gem behind him, he's a significant threat. Gem keeps him grounded, and from doing stupid shit that gets him killed. They have Etho, and he comes and visits, which is nice. Everyone struggles a lot with the Wild Cards early game but them, neither of them losing lives for several sessions. Joel even comments that normally he's red by session 4, and he doesn't know what to do with himself without all that anger. He lives his best life, with Gem, with his car.

And then Grian's allies die, and isn't that familiar, and Joel lets him into the Family, because of course he would, allying with Grian is like second nature to him at this point. Maybe he feels guilty for leaving him in Limited Life, or maybe he just knows what it's like to be alone and doesn't want that for him. Who knows. He tries and fails at building traps. As soon as he's yellow he gets a double kill on Scott and Pearl, and Grian and Jimmy scream with him like old times. And it's okay, I mean it's stressful and it's like the end of the world but Joel's doing okay, he has his family, he's not alone.

And then the finale comes and it's so hectic and so many people are trying to kill him and Grian saves him, Grian tries so hard to save him, and isn't that something. Being worthy of being saved by Grian. And Gem goes out, not even to a player, to a vex, one of his family members is gone and it's so hectic Joel can't even stop to mourn or he, too, will die. And then he finds Grian and he stumbles to him screaming "Thank God you're alive!" because it had gotten so crazy, so wild that Joel didn't truly even know if Grian was alive, but he was, he still had Family, he wasn't alone again, not this time. And Grian says that he thinks Joel can win, Joel can win, that he'll give Joel his life, that it's about time he wins and Joel gets flashbacks to wanting to die for Jimmy, and Scar wanting to die for Grian and what that did to him, and he doesn't want that, but GOD he wants to win. So badly. And then Grian got knocked off the tower with Bdubs, ender pearling off, screaming how he refused to go like Mumbo, like Skizz, not on his tower and Joel's running, EVERYONE is targeting him, Grian takes out Pearl and Joel takes out Cleo and Ren.

And then it's just them, then it's just Joel and Grian, and Joel can't even find Grian, he just heard the arrows as Grian tries to shoot him, going back on his word as expected, which Joel-- Joel is glad for. Because he wanted to win this on his own terms, he wanted to win because he won, he would not be given anything. He's not alone this time. And he charges up the tree, and he kills Grian, kills his Family, his Bad Boy, his red friend, his ally in the sand, screaming that he's sorry, and Joel laughs.

Joel laughs, and laughs, and laughs.
