Hi! Could I be ✨Anon? (Im not sure whats been taken already) I've been on a big Batfam kick these past few days and have a v indulgent request if it interests you.

Could I request something for a (gn) civilian reader who is friends w/ the Batfam, but recently got superpowers that are magical girl-esque? Neither of the parties knowing of the others Alter Egos. Here are some of my thought, but write the post however you'd like.

Reader was accidentally caught up in some commotion that involved stealing specialty cargo. One of them being an alien artifact, and reader uses it in desperation to save themselves. But now they have these sparkely, pretty, and showy powers that they never asked for. (And maybe a magical animal companion that insist they bring light and justice to Gotham)

Reader is reluctant to be a vigilante, but keeps finding themselves in situations to help people anyways.(Maybe its a side effect of being a magical girl) They end up fighting alongside the Batfam at some point, but they feel embarrassed to interact w/ them. Reader feels completely out of place with their colorful and over-the-top powers when next to the cool and brooding batfam.

Magical Girl/Boy/Person! Reader is really close friends with Tim and Damian. If there was one thing all three could agree on it’s that they loved superheroes in manga/comics.

And Reader? Boy did they adore the Batfam. There was just something about their dark, brooding aesthetic that they couldn’t get enough of.

So it was a tad bit ironic that they stumbled upon the most “girly”and “bright” power ever known to Gotham.

It didn’t help that your abilities had to be activated with cutely yelling things like “Sparkle Blast!” or “Smile Hurricane!”

I like to headcannon that you have a familiar or Kwami like creature that in exchange of keeping your identity magically hidden, absolutely bullies you by making the one above a requirement.

I headcannon that Damian has the PHATTEST crush on you. Like even moreso than the stalker, otaku Tim. Like he is just head over heels. You’re strong, you’re capable, you’re adorable?? But that mostly extends to just your magic persona rather than your real self. He’s super obvious about it to anyone but you too (similar to the og miraculous ladybug w/ felix instead of chat).

Tim is more interested on who tf you were. Like yes!!! Magical Person Hero!!! You were basically his childhood crushes incarnate!! But his inquisitive mind really needed to know who you were in order to calm himself down.

Jason is honestly a bit overwhelmed by your whole getup, but grows to love you the most in terms of how kind you are and how you help them even in the most dire of situations (not knowing that you were basically forced to)

He’s very much Tuxedo Mask type wherein he’d be very annoying to you when the disguises are off but an absolute Casanova with em on.

You and Dick are the most close when it comes to patrols and fighting. I feel like you, being the big fan you were, would make him look even more flashy and handsome during battle with sparkles and whatnot. I have a feeling he’d be the first to ask you out or fully romance you, as well as be the first to befriend you/contact you as a vigilante.

Bruce is definitely perplexed by how you always evade him in terms of your secret identity. It frustrates him to no end that whenever he gets close to finding out something either gets in his way or his mind just goes blank.

Once you explain how your magical persona works tho he’s pretty quick on the bandwagon, especially since he sees that his boys love you.

Also cause you look way too adorable to really be heinous.

Once you break one of your familiar’s rules though, they do share your identity with the bats and well…

Kinda on a 'Jason's Red Hood Return Goes Hilariously Off The Rails' phase.

Read practically everything on AO3 with the trope, now writing my own.

Got two ideas.

Dick gets de-aged to 8 year old feral Robin and is in the Tower instead of Tim, Jason's Titans Tower attack goes waaaaay off what he planned.

Jason commenting on Tim's Batman fanfic, and the resulting comment war (with other Gothamites chiming in) leads to Jason hashing out most of his issues, derailing the whole Red Hood Revenge Run.

What do you think would be other hilarious/cracky/awesome ways for Jason's Red Hood return to go off the rails and have him come back home?

P.S. I'm going with Fanon Good(ish) Dad Bruce, not the Canon version.

First of all I love the second idea! I’ve never read anything like it before ✨

Honestly there are so many ways you can have Jason’s plans go off track somewhere along the way. Personally I’m a fan of having him run into one of the family while he’s grocery shopping or something in civilian gear, and obviously they recognize him. So now Jason has the option of either running and letting them assume stuff on their own, or he can come up with a harebrained excuse (amnesia, clone, etc). ((I also love the trope of Bruce not even checking if it’s really Jason. If this is a clone, he doesn’t want to know. Nobody’s taking Jason from him ever again)).

Another fun way would be for him to have that really hardcore “I want my dad” moment. Could be he’s sick, or concussed, or just otherwise really out of it. And he calls either Dick or Bruce on autopilot because— “I want to go home. Please. I just want to go home.” And whoever is on the other side of the call has several heart attacks while also trying to keep Jason talking, trying to track the location. Because— it could be a hallucination, a trick, anything, but— but what if it isn’t—…

Or, good old “one of the Bats is held hostage by a rogue” but it’s totally a planned thing. And obviously Jason doesn’t know about it so he drops in, pissed as all hell but not willing to let any of them die, and freeing them. Which is… very much not what that Bat had planned, but for whatever reason the murderous crime lord is now fussing over them? Better play along and keep pretending to be drugged…

Those are some things that came to mind :)

honestly, everyone’s amazing in this little community. From the band to the fans 💗💗💗 and it was so sweet to see all kinds of people from different age groups. Some moms even coming with their younger daughter and vibing in the seated area while their daughters were in GA hahahaha. of course they got to become carriers of jackets/ bags etc. even the more… ✨colorful ✨Twitter fans were there and they’re a lot less….umm… intense(shall we say?) in person. Like they’re not mean they just really like doing things a certain way and whatever if that makes you happy go off I guess hahahah.

camping was alright! As smooth as an experience like that could be. We checked things out, went and napped and got back at 3 am. But because (as matty made VERY clear from his jokes about dead bodies last night lmao) Baltimore is not a safe area at alllll the venue let us camp inside for the night. Where there was a security guard with us at all times. And thank god that was a thing cuz we did have some weird people stop by and try to come inside and cause drama.

BUT what I will say about camping is that you should find out who the line leader is and see if you have the option of getting your number registered and then leaving overnight to sleep for 7-8 hours then come back in the morning. Cuz apparently some people do this and we didn’t know. the way it usually works is there are check-ins every 3 to four hours from the moment that the line begins until the day of the show. During those check-ins the line leaders will line everyone up in order of your number, take your name and initial to make sure that everyone who’s supposed to be there is in fact there, that nobody is taking anyone’s spot, cutting in line, or trying to be in GA line when they don’t have a ticket (cuz apparently people do try this and see if they can sneak in?). Then you get the official wristbands from Mark and/or Tim and get to go home and you just have to be back before doors open.

BUT some line leaders are chill and will say there are check ins every 3-4 hours until 10 pm. At 10 everyone is allowed to go home/ to a hotel and sleep as long as they come back for morning check in at 6 or 7 am when the 3 hour check ins resume for the day. So you don’t NEED to be camped outside the venue if your line leader has that as an option. You just get your number, leave at 10 pm, come back the next morning having slept, eaten, etc.

some line leaders are more intense though and won’t let you leave. That person who’s been a fan since 2013 that I mentioned in my last reply has experienced both: some super strict lines and some chill. So def check Twitter and see who the leader is and what the rules are. Fans usually make huge group chats on Twitter and discord for each individual show so that people in line can update and say “we just did our check In we are currently at this number” so I would super recommend that you try to get into these gcs if you can. That’s how we kept an eye on the numbers while at dinner and stuff. just make sure to be back by the next check in time / wrist band line time because we did hear horror stories about fans for other shows going to get coffee, not knowing that wrsitbands were coming in 15 min, missing out on it and losing their spot. But that rarely happens if you come back by the time that you are supposed to. Like they give you 3-4 hours to do what you need to do. As long as you stick to that, it should be totally chill. we had a few people who were camping alone and they just joined us. Like a girl came up and said “mind if I sit with you?” And we were like yeah of course and she hung out. Then when doing check ins we got to meet the people who were directly before and after us cuz we lined up with them, and we made friends with them as well. So by the time that you actually get to the pit, you already know the people around you and you’ve bonded over freezing to death and being sleepy and discussing the band in great detail that everyone’s just so happy to share this experience together and sob and wail and scream about Ross being perfect and matty being a smol bean that the whole thing feels like a huge family. We literally referred to each other as a line family hahahah. Okay I hope this wasn’t overwhelming and overboard. But the gist is YOU ARE GONNA HAVE SO MUCH FUN as tiring as the camping process is, it’s worth it.

Bad news: Tim’s solo series is NOT happening maybe...

We were expected to hear news about Tim possibly having his own solo series but we got no official announcement at all,

what really happened was a miscommunication error.

When Batman: Urban Legends #10 (on December 14, 2021) came out, fans paid attention to this panel:

This could honestly mean anything! This could mean that Tim might have his own solo or that we will see more of him in other books like Detective Comics, Batman, etc which is still good but a little disappointing tbh because a solo would be very good for him. I will admit though, that it’s good news that it’s confirmed that we will see him this year considering that he came out as Bisexual, which is great representation for the LGBT+ and comic community! And we don’t need to worry about DC ignoring him anymore in the meantime.

However, in the same week we saw this cute comic of Tim coming out to Bruce there was a tweet getting attention. The tweet hints that this person is writing a “Tim solo”. We were all ecstatic right? Well it turns out that this is not the case, this writer retweeted their original post and said this:

I’ll admit I was very confused, because in the 1st tweet they’re holding a Tim Drake plushie and posted it 4 days after Urban Legends #10 came out. Tim fans assumed because of that panel and this tweet that it must be correlated (I assumed as well)

In their retweet on January 21, they clarify that it was just a plain miscommunication error and that they were trying to announce their own comic called Aurora and the Eagle.

(Mentioning the dates are important because the timing is what led us believe that Tim was gonna get his own comic)

This is certainly disheartening news because we are expecting an official announcement for a Tim solo by DC and it never came.

I just wanna say that I have no idea if this person baited Tim fans on purpose or not but I absolutely cannot say that for sure because accidents do happen, and I am not accusing them for “baiting” at all btw! And a Tim solo could happen anyway just not with this writer at the moment.

So if you’re a Tim fan waiting for news, this was probably not what you wanted to hear but I made this post to spread awareness. And if you were wondering when the announcement would come I’m really sorry. But please do NOT send hate to this person because it was probably an accident! And Tim having a solo is STILL POSSIBLE so going to their twitter and sending hate would be very dumb and rude so don’t!!!

Right now, if we really want Tim to have his own comic all we need to do is be vocal about it! If DC sees how badly fans want one then they might do it! Or who knows maybe he is gonna have a new solo come out this year and it’s in development (but it’s just not with this writer) and DC might reveal it soon, let’s hold on to some hope! ✨

~Titans … Have they lost the plot?~ 🤔

(All that matters in Titans season 3 ep 11)

Hello everyone! Welcome back to another special edition (rant) analysis for this week’s episode! All I can say is that I took a good couple of hours to steam & marinate after that fiasco. I’ve also had my time to release my frustrations all over Twitter so we are back on track.

Before I begin, yall will notice that a good chunk of events will be skipped because this analysis will only cover all that mattered, which was sadly about less than half of the episode, but I digress.

Let’s talk about my baby Timmy being introduced quite early in the episode. He is greeted by Donna on a roof who coincidentally - finally found her way into Gotham and is headed to China Town (Tim’s neighborhood) for clues. Also with the speed of Tim’s healing process, I’d say that him and Donna most likely returned back with some form of special abilities.

There seemed to be a-lot of plot holes missing in this particular scene, Donna is particularly aware of what is taking place in Gotham and shes also seen the clip, so why wasn’t her first instinct to take a visit to Wayne Manor? Seeing that as an Amazonian, plus with the addition of her recent power charge she was more than capable of defeating Jason and Crane on her own. Possibly even with the help of Conner and Kory, who are extraterrestrial.

(Me: trying to explain this concept at 3 am in the morning)

If this scene were rewritten correctly, they all would’ve met up with Donna “coincidentally” and cleared those idiots in less than a minute.

But anyway, let’s move on to Kory’s shifty storyline. I cannot say that I am impressed by the continuous downplay of her character. There’s no way that the writers had the tiniest inkling that her fans would enjoy the not so subtle erasure of her and Kom’s backstory. Plus the utter obsession that they have with nerfing and stealing her powers each season!

Can someone also explain to me in what world were Starfire’s star bolts ever … blue? I’m still scratching my head, but we move!

The fact that Starfire’s powers were never hers to begin with - that it was stolen from her sister, despite the comics completely contradicting that line of events is comical to me. It sounds like a concept that should’ve remained in the drafts. Yet, here we are.

Can we also acknowledge how adorable the babies playing Kom and Kory were! 💜✨

This next scene definitely ruffled my feathers a bit. Not only was I upset for Conner, but I was incredibly disappointed in Dick. The fact that he decided to breach the trust between himself and Conner by using kryptonite (Superboy’s weakness) against him was a serious low blow. Especially when considering how useful Super boy would be in a fight against Jason.

What I will tell you is that I am intrigued to see how Dick will work to regain Conner’s trust, but with him getting shot in the neck - serves him right - I can only picture that this scene will ultimately be glossed over and all will be forgiven, which is the cliche norm in Titans kumbaya land.

There were so many things that Dick could’ve done differently in that fight scene. Why in the world would he turn his back on a civilian with a GUN?! Why did he not make sure to remove it from his possession before returning his focus back to Jason. The bullet in the neck was clearly the result of his rookie mistake. Plus it’s karma for his stupidity so 🤷🏽‍♀️

🚨HIGHLIGHTS 🚨

I am all here for the mother - son duo that is Tim and Donna. If you weren’t watching this scene with a huge grin on your face like an idiot, then are you even human?!?!

If there is anything that added a short glimmer to this week’s episode, it was surely the contagious relationship shared between these two characters. I could feel the level of mutual respect and Donna’s motherly instinct all over the screen! I cannot wait for her and Kory to finally get together and spill the beans on their adventures. What a ride that’ll be huh?!

tl;dr: “Hate” is a strong word, but it’s not friendly

Tim and Damian definitely don’t like each other, and that’s pretty consistent. The very first time they met, Damian tried to murder Tim. He was a brainwashed 10-year-old who genuinely thought he was doing the correct/expected thing, but (along with Damian’s generally rude demeanor and the bad blood over Robin) you can probably see why Tim wouldn’t be the kid’s biggest fan. Their dislike of each other the next time they meet is clear, with a lot of low blows on either side:

Damian isn’t Robin yet here, despite trying to wear the costume, but Tim certainly doesn’t like him any better when that switch happens. I’d argue that he has a much less active dislike of Damian by the time he returns to Gotham as Red Robin, but he’s still very uncomplimentary towards the kid in his narration and doesn’t trust him.

As for Damian’s side, the idea that he always had it out for Tim and was making constant murder attempts is an exaggeration. The first time Damian tried to kill Tim was purely a bid for the Robin title with League-approved “murder the competition” methods. The second, however, was a more personally-charged (and insecure) attempt when he found himself on Tim’s secret second “hit list”--a Batman-esque list of heroes Tim wanted to be prepared to take out if they went bad. Though it manifests as anger, Damian is definitely hurt by the distrust too. (see: Red Robin #14)

Afaik, we never see any narration from Damian about Tim, so it’s hard to be certain of his feelings once Tim is out of the way as Robin. It’s worth noting that Damian acts very rude and abrasive in general, so I think you could argue both that he treats Tim like he treats pretty every else, or that he specifically dislikes Tim.

All that being said, they do work together a few times with significant bickering but no violence (e.g. Red Robin #13 or Gates of Gotham), so I think there’s hope for them yet.

So the thing about Tim and Jason is that we’re dealing with two very different continuities here--before and after Flashpoint--and most people forget the first in favor of the second.

After Flashpoint rebooted the DC universe into the New 52 in 2011, Tim and Jason suddenly started acting like the closest of brothers (which I would guess has everything to do with the same writer, Lobdell, having domain over both of them). I'm not going to talk much about this version (because I haven't read most of it yet, new 52 Tim sucks, and I think people are pretty familiar with the idea already), but afaik this carried through in more recent reboots like Rebirth. It's the relationship most people think of for them.

But it came out of nowhere. In the Post-Crisis continuity (i.e. pre-new 52; before 2011; the timeline with Under the Hood, Jason attacking Tim, and such classic events)...

tl;dr: pre-Flashpoint, Tim thinks Jason ain’t shit

Before Jason’s resurrection, that was different. Tim’s respect for the Robin mantle and DC’s determination to insist that Jason was irresponsible (and therefore it’s okay for Batman to have other child sidekicks) gave Tim a messy view of Jason. Sometimes he lumped Jason in with Dick--who Tim fully idolized--and sometimes he was insistent about being better than Jason in a kinda disparaging way.

The end result lands somewhere around “cautionary tale.” I know a lot of people are upset about anything related to the portrayal of Robin!Jason as reckless, but I think in this case it makes for a really interesting mix of feelings from Tim about a boy he never personally met--an image he's reconstructed solely based on how others talk about him.

Of course, then Jason came back, killed a bunch of people, made himself a crime lord, and attacked Tim. At which point, Tim had zero sympathy for the guy who was actively trying to hurt (kill?) him.

(I will also point out here that, by this point, Tim has been Robin for three years and is fully confident in the role; it’s been a long time since he was a kid nervous about living up to the legacy. When he asks Jason earlier in the scene if he wants to be Robin again, it’s distinctly not an offer--Tim has no intention of giving that up--but just sussing out his motives. Jason wants to know if Tim is good enough, and Tim is fully like “yeah I fucking am, loser.”)

Tim and Jason run into each other only a couple times after this, with mixed results. Tim gets some joy out of kicking Jason in the balls in revenge in Teen Titans #47. Then they have their most pleasant interaction towards the end of Tim’s Robin series, where Jason is attempting to take over Gotham’s gangs For The Greater Good, and seems genuinely interested in working with Tim.

Towards the end of the storyline, Tim thinks Jason had a point about the issues he was seeing in Gotham, if not his methods; and also thinks Bruce would have wanted to give Jason a second chance, and breaks him out of jail. In the next issue, he lets Jason into the cave to see the video will Bruce left him. This is pretty much the only time either one is nice to the other--and even in this storyline, it’s clear from Tim’s narration he doesn’t think much of “Jan Brady of the Bat-Family” (direct quote lmao) Jason.

Tim breaking Jason out turns out to be a terrible idea, and they meet for what I’m pretty sure is the last time post-Crisis in Battle for the Cowl, where Jason nearly murders him again. This has that famous “be my Robin,” line, but contrary to popular belief, Jason isn’t actually that interested in working with Tim at this point--he’s using it more as a threat--and Tim has no interest or sympathy for his cause.

Tim refuses, Jason stabs him and leaves him for dead, and they end post-Crisis with no affection for each other. So, you know, not the closest relationship.

(And then a new continuity declared them each other’s favorite brother.)

Tim and Cass had no strong relationship at first. Their stories in Robin and Batgirl were largely separate, and Tim actually found Cass to be very creepy. But when he realized he was being silly, they agreed to be friends.

Still, they were largely distant all the way up until Stephanie’s death. Cass and Tim were the pair most affected by far, and in the wake of the War Games shake up, they both moved to Blüdhaven (which Nightwing had left) where they really bonded. They worked together in the field, Cass broke into Tim’s place to use his shower and steal his snacks, and sometimes they’d have quieter moments and deeper conversation. (see: the Robin/Batgirl “Fresh Blood” crossover.)

Not long after, Cass left Gotham to find her mom. And then after that, Tim (and Dick and Bruce) left Gotham to recapture the spirit of Batman. And then Cass left Gotham again and returned brainwashed and evil. (This is a terrible storyline, but evil Cass did want Tim to join her and later he helped her de-brainwash, so I guess that’s something?) Then they were finally both in Gotham again (and both adopted now!), but DC editorial was trying to push Cass out and barely let her interact with anyone at all.

Finally, Cass left Gotham once again (see: editorial trying to erase her) and moved to offscreen Hong Kong. She made two guest appearances in Red Robin where it is clear that the pair like and respect each other, and it also turns out that Tim was the only one to keep contact with Cass after she left Gotham--though, once again: editorial vendetta stopping anyone else from interacting with her. They help each other out with cases. He tries to convince her to come back to Gotham, be Batgirl again, and remember she has family. She saves him and goes along with his plans, with complete trust on both sides. (see: Red Robin #17, #25, and Gates of Gotham.)

It’s not a relationship that gets a whole lot of appearances, because Cass really wasn’t given the attention she was due, but it’s a very solid one whenever it does appear.

I've found it quite interesting how the show is pretty consistent in it's portrayal of Eddie and Buck's very different ways of showing jealousy. Buck gets overly invested, talking about Shannon constantly to other people in that Christmas ep, rambling about Ana to that girl they were saving and blabbing about her again to the rest of the team. Eddie is more obvious, becoming visibly annoyed and bothered, the way he strode over to Taylor Kelly when she was flirting with Buck and his general reaction to Abby's reappearance. Idk just thought it was interesting

Hi Nonnie and thank you so much for this ask! Yes, I agree completely. I believe I even pointed all these things out at one point or another. And the thing about Eddie strutting over during Buck’s talk with Taylor is that she first talks to Bobby, it’s happening right near Eddie so he has to be aware, but he just keeps lifting weights. Then she starts talking to Buck and bam, Eddie’s up off the bench and coming over with a face that clearly says, “I don’t like this”. So the issue isn’t Taylor talking to the team, the issue is Taylor talking to Buck specifically. And I like that the show gives each guy his own form of a jealous reaction, consistent with the fact that they do process and react to things differently. And yet, despite the difference, they also share this thing where the other man is the center of their emotional world, so it’s just natural for them that they have to react to anything that might threaten that man or that bond. i ioved your last buddie meta and everything  there is on point. its just makes ne wonder if the writters themselves  are aware of those things as you are.. obviously they do which makes me   more wondering why they put themselves on corner whem they are not   planning on buddie .. they don't have much opportunity to create a bunch  of storylines. because for buddie fans, nothing they'll do otherwise, will stratifie them. i would like to know your opinion. @yelenabelous Hi hon, I’m so happy you liked the meta for ep 406! I can’t believe that writers, who are usually sensitive to the parallels and narrative structures they write, are unaware. Especially when we’re talking about the entire ep’s main story paralleling so clearly, I doubt they don’t know what they’re doing. Why are they doing it? I would hope that because they are planning on making Buddie canon at some point, or at least they’re leaving themselves that option to do it. Tim has talked about needing to make a decision on this. I don’t and can’t know if he’s made it or not, but I think he made it obvious that he’s not one of the producers for whom Buddie would not even be on the table. Oli recently also talked about it as a viable option. I don’t think we’ll get more than that for now in terms of behind the scenes confirmation, even if Buddie is the endgame plan, because that’s not how the teasing game of slow burn works... But I think it is pretty clear that the writers do this because they don’t see this as writing themselves into a corner, i.e they don’t believe that Buddie is def not going to happen. I did some Dami & Dick content earlier (just scroll through the fae tag) and I’m afraid I don’t know very much about the time where Bruce was presumed dead, but I’ll try to add some hc’s anyway 💚

Dick takes over as Damian’s father figure seamlessly. Yes, he’s grieving (fae do NOT handle loss well) but one of his coping mechanisms is to crowd his remaining family around him and not let them out of his sight

Dick’s morals are… flexible, to say the least. He does not curb Damian’s blood lust in the least and rather redirects it elsewhere. He makes him cut down on killing, but maiming is definitely still on the table if the perp deserves it

Damian is a child that had to grow up on very little physical affection. Dick, on the other hand, thrives on it. And he doesn’t care at all that Damian stabs him at every turn the first couple months.

Only once does Damian catch Dick unaware with an iron knife. Damian cries for the first time since he can remember when Dick collapses with a scream and doesn’t get back up. Jason finds them both on the floor, with Damian frantically pressing his hands to the wound and sobbing apologies.

Dick does his best to be a parent to Damian but his idea of “parenting” includes advices of murder and psychological torment. And also, unhealthy obsessions with deals and promises

Jason and Tim both agree to take over the more “human” aspect of parenting. It goes… ok.

Dick does not take Robin away from Tim. Fae know how important names and identities are, and he won’t do it without express permission. Not to family.

By the time Bruce returns from his impromptu trip through time Damian behaves more like a fae would than a human child but, well, Bruce has experience with fae children at least. He’ll manage

maybe the fandom, that has good art and fanfics, can fill in the gaps. Wait no forget about it, my last interactions with the fandom were 80% focused on the three main characters. Oh and all the yaoi jokes. God the yaoi jokes. And the GROSS SHIT.

literally the last like... two or three chapters I read of it before I stopped at Army of Nightmares and refrained from interacting with it were like way too focused on the main character instead of bothering with the VERY FASCINATING WORLDBUILDING and the TONS of characters I loved to see interacting. this is a comic that pretty much can be summed up as the league of extraordinary gentlemen but as a modern day cartoon and yet about half of the canon content I consumed was just hyde running around, hyde treating jekyll like absolute shit, jekyll being no better than him, or Frankenstein being no better than the both of them

like the things I liked the most about it were... the concept art and the first three or four chapters. i know I’ve already criticized the pacing, the inconsistent writing, the treatment of the secondary scientists as man-children, the subtle casual racism/colorism involving Lucy and Robert (and Morcant...), the enabling of gross ships within the fandom, and the historical inaccuracies (though that’s a personal peeve of mine) But GOD. the fan service? the... creepy fetis—y treatment of the main characters?

and this is not me being like “jekyll shouldnt be gay/it shouldn’t be shown/it shouldn’t be explicit” literally it’s the opposite. I’m a bisexual guy and having a male bi lead that has to deal with internalized bigotry is very interesting not to Mention I’m forehead deep in the Canonically Gay Jekyll kool-aid. the thing is, the comic has a bad case of “its henry’s World were all just living in it”. All those backgrounders that were introduced to us? Haven’t been seen since chapter five, really, except for crowd shots. Robert? Still a main character but definitely deserves to be more than Henry’s boyfriend (also another pet peeve of mine: Hastings is a good name, you’re just cowards). Too many things appear to have been watered down from the concepts. Don’t get me started on how gorgeous the concept art was when compared to the more flat art it has now— it literally feels like I’m being fed Gravity Falls/SVTFOE artwork instead of the beautiful, more appropriate Tim-Burtony sketches from the concepts (in which Hyde looked so much scarier by the way).

Pretty much the comic’s main writing problem is that it focuses too much on yet ANOTHER reinterpretation of a pop culture character (and a very plain one at that as he got aged down like most adaptations do to Henry) and how ~✨gay✨~ he is instead of FLESHING THE STORY OUT

🥺 Is there a certain type of moment or common interaction between your characters that never fails to put you in your feels? - There’s a scene I did in my Game of Thrones fic where my main character found out she was pregnant and Jaime just broke that I loved doing because I always wanted him to be able to be a dad, which was something he clearly wanted in the show and couldn’t have. There’s also a reunion scene for my Halo fic that I set pre-Halo 4 that's heartbreaking because Carter’s sister spends like five years thinking he’ll never wake up, and then she loses The Master Chief and comes to the Infinity only to find out her brother woke up from his coma 

🤡 What's a line, scene, or exchange you've written that made you laugh? - Literally any of the exchanges between Tim Drake and Dick’s sister in my current WIP

🏆 What's your most popular fic? - My Game of Thrones Fix It that I did after S8 concluded! Rewrote the entire ending of the show to give Jaime and Daenerys the ending I thought they deserved. 

🎨 How do you feel about fan art of your stories? - Someone drew one for my wolffe story forever ago and I IMMEDIATELY printed that thing out and plastered it on my wall

👀 Tell me about an up and coming wip please! - CHAPTER TWELVE OF WHEN IT’S TIME TO GO:  Sarah begins to slip when she hears that Jason’s coffin has been defiled (“It’s almost like someone clawed their way out of it and to the surface.”) despite Bruce’s offer to finally make her and Dick his legal kids and not just his wards. Also when she asks for the armor color change - as the armor hasn’t been updated since she grew - and where Tim gets so good with his bo staff he manages to outdo even Spectral. Emphasize the sibling bonding here. Fluffy. Have Tim’s/Dick’s birthday as well.

- “You want to pay for me to go to art school?” Sarah asked incredulously. She hadn’t even considered going to college since Jason died. That dream of him attending college for his English major and her for her art major had died the night he’d left her. “Before Jason died, I would’ve said yes. My answer is no. It’s still no.”  

“Why?” Bruce asked softly. “You have a gift, Sarah.”   

“My gift now is patrolling Gotham and Blüdhaven to make sure those kids who are living on the streets are safe. Those kids who grew up like Jason and suffered need someone to look out for them. That’s my gift. Not my art. My art is just a pastime at this point.” 

My job as a soldier is a better gift than the beautiful art I can contribute to the world. 

Oh, he royally screwed his kids up. For them to think they had more to contribute by patrolling Gotham and Blüdhaven than by sharing their gifts with those cities meant they staked more value in being child soldiers.
