soooo still on hiatus but I’ve been working on a totally-not-daggers inspired smutty series since the spring and I finished the first book and it comes out Oct 1
Im nervous bc I know people are weird about fanfiction-adjacent stories, but it’s really not fanfic but it is a couple things that’ll be familiar to TGM folks (a blond with glasses, a surgeon with a deep Texan accent…you get the drill). It’ll be ok KU and an ebook, and I’m working on print versions, but if anyone’s interested, the series is based around a small town in Acadia with people and monsters and their love lives. This first book is a nurse who gets turned into a werewolf who asks his childhood best friend to help him through his first rut. There’s pining, there’s coastal Maine vibes, there’s friends to lovers and knotting idk what else to say

i stand with you in the face of a defensive misunderstanding of what critique is.
i think understanding what a critique actually is is a skill that increasingly is not taught. i remember going through freshman art courses feeling the frustration that all negative, nasty, unhelpful, and missed-the-point-entirely feedback is so commonly conflated with critique, and then critique gets a bad name because everyone remembers the time someone said their painting looked like an asshole (true story, altho now i think i would take it as a compliment) instead of the time a teacher or friend or classmate helped them uncover a hurtful bias or think of new ways to explore the same idea or how to connect it to related ideas or how to look up and understand other people's ideas on the same topic.
anyway i think you're great.
ahhh you're so kind to me!! i appreciate your support, and i think you are great also.
i have experience with giving and receiving critique as a student myself, and i think it was the best part of my degree! i majored in creative writing in college, and critique was just a generally accepted part of learning to become a writer. i don't even remember people being especially worried about receiving critique on their work. we had guidance on what kind of feedback was useful, but we were still at liberty to give it as we saw fit as like messy 19 year olds. the standard was that we gave it both written on printed copies of the work AND aloud in front of the whole class, and the writer receiving it was not permitted to speak during the critique. understanding how people are perceiving your work is important!
i don't have any particularly negative recollections of the critique process, although once in a high school writing class, the boys in the class told me that my male characters touched each other too gently and real boys are more rough with each other. in particular, they took issue with me writing that one boy nudged another. nudging is too soft. nudging is for girls. that was more than 20 years ago, and i still think about it sometimes because it was such an interesting perspective! i did not take their advice, though.
i should dig up that piece and see if it reads queer in any other ways. i think that's what they were getting at. (actually i once had a non-fiction class tell me i was in love with my roommate after reading an essay i wrote about her)(i did not listen to that advice either, but having 12 acquaintances tell you that you're gay in 2006 before you realize it yourself is Truly Something!)
i think people have conflated criticism and critique and think that being more openly analytical is the same thing as being negative. but analysis is so fun to me! analysis is why i joined fandom in the first place, and it's why i write fic! can we trust each other to be respectful and to speak in good faith even when we're not singing each other's praises? for me fandom would be better if we could.
oh i also want to clarify that i don't think it's impossible to demonstrate that you've thought deeply about a piece of fanwork while remaining completely positive. people do it all the time and do it very well!
i know i sometimes have tunnel vision wrt my own perspective. in a lot of situations, i wish it were more acceptable to be more direct, and i know people sometimes find the way i express myself to be kind of shocking. i know a lot of people like to be spoken to more indirectly than comes natural to me, and i don't mean to imply that my perspective is the only correct one or that there's no good reason to err on the side of gentleness/politeness in our responses to amateur art and writing. i just think that at a certain level of circumspection, it feels like we're all holding each other at arm's length.
i think for people who can't bear to feel exposed, making and sharing art is always going to be painful and difficult, and maybe too painful and difficult to enjoy the process unless they're sure of a soft landing. but like. the rewards of being loved only come after the mortifying ordeal of being known, right?
#ten years ago i had a comment section diagnose me with autism and they were RIGHT. and they loved me!!!!#my portfolio advisor told me that my main character was having a mental breakdown and it made all the people around her seem Villainous#for how selfishly they treated her#and i didn't realize that things seemed so dire for her but i needed to know that in order to make the story make sense!#it wasn't a mean thing to say it was just pointing out something i couldn't see! ik it was different because it was a draft tho#'looks like an asshole' makes me desperately want to see that painting#i didn't know that you're also a visual artist and i'm longing to see your work#there's this movie called igby goes down#where someone tells the main character that they're an artist and he says so do you paint?#and the character responds an artist creates art regardless of what form it takes#and i think the audience is meant to consider that character unbearably pretentious but i totally agree#it has also just occurred to me that some people are nervous about commenting on other people's work#to the extent that they're afraid they'll commit some kind of unintentional faux pas or just leave a disappointing comment#and i get that because you're also kind of sharing yourself by leaving feedback#and you don't want to offend or hurt someone who's created something that resonated with you#idk i guess stepping on people's toes is just a normal part of interacting with them#and almost never fatal

No I'm sorry, I'm actually going to be an annoying baby about this one more time and then I'm done tonight, I swear.
'Write for yourself' is only good advice when it comes to the content of your writing. Write the topics you enjoy, the stories and situations you want to explore or desperately need to get out of your head. Yes. Of course.
But even that's not quite right, because writing is work. Damn hard work. Telling a story is easy. It's just an idea you pluck out and play with. But turning that idea into a fully-realized written story is soooo fucking hard that I absolutely don't do it for myself. AT BEST, I do it to prove I can, but even then I want an audience to brag about it to. I want an audience to understand even if they never feel the way I do about it.
So no, 'write for yourself' isn't good advice. And when it's used as a stunt double for 'don't expect reader feedback', it's horrible. I'm sorry, I don't put all this work into my fic for nothing! I can tell my self stories with way less effort! If I'm going to write, I do need comments! I need to feel like I'm not shouting into the void, or worse shouting into a dark, locked room that's slowly suffocating me. Because that's what writing fic feels like!! I can't maintain this level of enthusiasm in a vacuum! Eventually it turns into depression and loneliness. I'm sorry that's just how it works ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

A Protective Brother | Cillian & Sebastian
"Lord Ormond!"
It was Rosie's voice ringing out amongst the throng and, turning to look, Cillian smiled a brotherly grin. "Rosi--Lady Roisin."
Her smirk was lopsided -- very clearly trying to suppress laughter -- and she shook her head. "You're hopeless," she hissed. "Anyway, Sebastian Varmont wants to meet you and he insisted -- very politely, he's very polite -- I introduce you! He's such a dear, do be nice--"
"What?"
"And I think he may be sweet on our Aoife! Isn't that marvellous?"
"What?!"
"He's coming this way--"
"What?"
"--but don't worry, I said some very promising things in your favor!"
"Rosie -- I can't deal with another Varmont right now!"
"Another? Wha--"
"Gods, Rosie, what did you say to him about me?"
"What, precisely, does 'another Varmont' mean--"
"Rosie! Focus!"
"On what?!"
At precisely that moment, Sebastian materialized out of the crowd, causing Rosie to hasten to his side, guiding him over to Cillian. "As promised!" she gleamed. "Your Imperial Highness, may I present my dear friend, Cillian, Lord of Ormond?" she said, gesturing to Cillian, who did his best not to sigh.
"And Cillian," she added with a slightly more warning tone (a be-on-your-best-behavior tone). "May I present His Imperial Highness, Sebastian, Prince of the Varmont Empire?" she turned quickly, eagerly to Sebastian. "Did I do tht right? I'm not the best with everyone's elaborate titles. Do you and your siblings have different styles -- oh, but nevermind. Answer me later. I'm interrupting! You two wished to chat!"
"Rosi--Lady Roisin!"
"I'll catch up with the both of you later!" So saying she danced way, disappearing amongst the tumult of people, very clearly delighted with herself, and Cillian was left to face yet another Varmont alone, but this time as Lord Ormond.
Turning to face Sebastian, he bowed very stiffly. "It is a pleasure," he began. "To finally put a face to the name. Her Imperial Highness the Princess Cassandra has told me much about you." What sort of inanities did such people generally chatter about? "How--how do you find the ball?"

tiktok users driving me insane pt.2 ig
so i’ve seen this one take that’s been clogging up my feed on tiktok lately so imma expose my thoughts about it here because i care about my safety
“erik has a problem with lazy writing because his problematic characters are still alive”
characters like alexis, kody, and quinn^^
what i think these people doing fully understand about Erik’s job, is that it’s a JOB. he has to keep this series going as long as possible or else he will not be getting *MONEY* from it. does it suck that he’s going to have to drag plotlines a bit? yes. but is it also lazy writing? no.
if he solved the quinn problem next fucking week, that could’ve been months of income lost from videos like talking about quinn or planning what to do with him in general.
there’s a reason why we haven’t gotten a wedding video from David yet. As much as Erik is a content creator and writing, he’s also a person who needs an INCOME.
and the “problematic characters” (idk why that’s in quotes the characters are horrible people lmao) that he keeps alive, are for GOOD REASON. what kind of story doesn’t have “villains”/characters with very questionable morals. do they want him to immediately kill those characters and then have no conflict for the rest of the series? i understand a good portion of the redacted fandom REALLY don’t like the audios with confrontations/angst in them, but i believe in order to keep his story engaging to others, you HAVE to have conflict of a sort, otherwise there’s only so many videos that can be made.
i understand why people are uncomfortable with the fact that *those* characters are still alive/faced not as severe consequences. and all i have to say is “be patient”. they will get what’s coming to them in due time. it sucks that we have to wait for that to happen, but erik also has like 30+ storylines going on at the same time. he will make his way to those *specific* ones when he will
i think i’m just annoyed at people who constantly expect content creators to curate to *THEIR* needs, when someone is just posting his lil stories and we get a front row seat to him posting them. he’s not making the stories *JUST* for us yall.
ok long ass rant over 👍👍 tik tok redactedverse makes me stressed 😭

i feel that this fandom's hatred for feminine presenting sirius and most especially sirius as a transfem or as a trans girl really says a lot about the kind of people you are. you're so quick to shit on jkr, yet you're pushing the exact same ideology and agenda that she is. the thing is, you're allowed to dislike certain headcanons. you're allowed to not like certain headcanons. i headcanon sirius as neither a fem-presenting individual or a trans girl. however, people are allowed to headcanon whatever they want and this fandom has always consisted of headcanons, because there is little canon about the era, and there will always be headcanons that one person might agree with, one person might headcanon it themselves, and another person might dislike it. you're allowed to dislike certain characters and certain headcanons, while we're at it; however, not liking it for the mere fact that the character is headcanoned as trans is transphobic. you can not see it. that's perfectly reasonable. for a fandom that claims to be "open-minded" and all in for diversity, you're really not supporting this whole ideology that this fandom claims so loudly to have. and also, your arguments against the headcannoning of sirius as transfem are shit. "it's erasing the mlm rep!!" the mlm rep that we, quite literally, do not have? the mlm rep that takes the big majority of the fandom? "it's fetishizing!!!" there have always been feminine queer men. they have always existed. and there always will be feminine queer men that will exist in queer spaces. their existence will continue and just because your, my, our, their experience as a queer person/queer people does not match with theirs/ours does not make them a fetish and it does not make any of us less valid.

Peta precure stan find out what an opinion is and that other people might agree with it. They also found out that some people have standards with show and doesn’t take any trash the writers gave to them like this stan. The stans for this trash ass season…
PETA precure stans are dumb as fuck in general but the ones on twitter are a special mixture of stupidity and toxicity.

Ashley: You don't believe in god? 🤨
Me: Aw, how sweet
Suvi: Just a constant reminder of the divine intelligence behind all creation
Me: Hello, human resources!?
#not entirely fair that I don't judge so harshly for Ashley's comment being so out of pocket. But typically in me1 you can respond in kind#(I don't remember what Ashley's response to you saying no is)#and it feels made to be a what the fuck Ashley moment. Not sure if it is. Ashley also never brings up religion again#Suvi probably bugs me more because it's in a later game so I'd expect better. I get fake alien religions are easier to explore#but you know. Thane and Samara are examples of actually religious characters who don't just bring up their religions#once and only once so they can put you on the spot and act accusatory. thus making a moment that leaves no one looking good#Suvi being a scientist and insisting unprompted that the universe being beautiful is self-evident proof of a divine intelligence#Like she's expecting you to agree with her. Then immediately getting defensive if you lightly don't. Is a bit more annoying#she also brings it up later in ways that feel weird and I don't like.#It's a very weird type of agnostic vibe where she has an almost catholic insistence that there is a Creator of some sort#but she's like 'who knows what our creator is like' and seems to have no real moral beliefs attached.#there's probably a word for that besides agnostic. She's a scientist who believes in creationism and apparently little else#I probably also feel weird about it because I come across that sort of person more often and they're weirdly hostile towards atheism#and it hurts more because I expect them to be more understanding of my own position

first thing: people won't know that you're upset with them and why you're upset with them if you don't tell them.
second thing (very controversial): politicians are still technically people.
third thing: in the USA you can contact politicians about stuff. it's very easy actually.
okay! now synthesize the information.

your writing is amazing and i hope those mean ao3 comments weren’t directed at you <3 but also fic writers are a marvel and nobody deserves rude comments wtf is wrong with ppl
Hi thank you so much for sending me this!! It was not me, it was just multiple fics i was reading (and greatly enjoying) where I went to leave a comment and then there were stupid & unnecessarily mean comments already there. It's just super discouraging to read those as both as a writer AND a reader, because those kinds of comments both 1) make it MUCH harder for the author to find motivation to write more of it or write their next story or even just enjoy their day feeling proud of the thing they created and 2) seem to imply readers who very much DID love the fic are wrong or stupid for enjoying it!! which is just goofy because not every story is going to be enjoyed by every reader but you've also gotta know, as a reader, when to backclick out of something that you don't like!
there is just no need to be hateful over something writers are doing for FUN and for FREE. the back button is literally RIGHT THERE and available to use <3
Anyway apologies for the mini rant anon but thank you very much for liking my work and I hope you'll enjoy the next things I'm working on too!!

I fucking love video games that are buggy as fuck
Fucking around in Vault 3, helping those guys escape- I come back with the key and two of them are outside the cage and one of the Fiends is inside it instead. I'm like "wow okay," move on, unlock the cage.
And then I just. Get to watch them all crouch and "sneak" out of the cage, pushing up against and stopping in front of Fiends the whole way.
I genuinely don't know if they're supposed to just be fine once you open the cage? So like maybe that last bit is par for the course. But coming back to two of them just wandering that room, chillin with the captors? Incredible. 10/10 I recommend this game to everyone.
#queued#jay.txt#fallout new vegas#can i like. comment on a thing btw. here in the comfort and safety of my tags?#does anyone else find getting good karma exclusively from (at least so far as I've seen) killing Fiends a little. Not Fucking Great?#like. idk. when i first heard about them in game it was from betsy and she has that one line abt them and like. it kinda set a tone for me#+maybe. 'cause barring the fiends we're given specified crimes for (and thus I DO enjoy my good karma from) they're just. addicts?#idk it just rubs me wrong. especially walking around this vault without having aggro'd them. like they don't even get upset with you for +#+taking their chems??? which i expected to be a problem 100%. but no. they just let you do whatever. they're just Fiending as it were#i do recognize that like. They've Fucking Done Shit. like killing the original vault dwellers who apparently just invited them in. that's +#+horrible yeah I agree. but how am i meant to know/believe they were all 100% complicit in that? how recent was that also? there's possibly#+people in this faction who DIDN'T do that yk? idk. idk. I'm overthinking it but it just rubs me wrong. like you're not gonna give me good#+karma for killing the slaver faction but I can get it for killing addicts? sure. okay. definitely not fucking weird behavior#Rant Over it's just been on the mind. until I get a mission that makes me be aggressive w them in there I'm gonna leave them be I think#like rogues that just attack me? sure. self defense. but if they've not attacking me we're just gonna chill#(queued june 9th)#future/present me here with an update! Finally encountered something else that gave me good karma for killing it! it was a feral ghoul +#+trooper. not sure how I feel about that 100%? i think i lean mostly towards ''yeah fair enough.'' it does make me feel a little less Hm +#+about the Fiend good karma though. just a little. but seriously why am I not getting it from Legion troops-#(additional tags added june 13th)

i wanted to say thank you for your nice comment on my tamala gifset.. i was legit scared i'd get nothing but negative comments since the majority of fans seem to hate her
oh no problem! your set was beautiful!!
and yeah i get what you mean. i mean,, i guess i kind of understand the hate but some of it seems so,, weird too? like hassian is my favorite character my special little blorbo even, and tamala leading him on and breaking his heart like that sucks no doubt!! but also like,,, i support women's rights and women's wrongs!!! she's hot!!!!!
ajkdhg but seriously even beyond her being really attractive, i think she's also really interesting and i'm hoping that the devs have more planned for her! her using magic is SO interesting and i can't believe some people are ignoring that just because of what happened between her and hassian! i mean don't get me wrong, people are allowed to dislike characters, it's all fiction it's whatever yknow? but i also kind of thought people got past that whole "if a character is evil or morally not the best, that means you can't like them or you're fucked up" like,,, what happened to liking hot lady villains 🤨
