When I say I really want a Jason adopts tim fic, I don't mean I want him to become a parent at 19 to a teen like 2-4 years younger than him, I want Jason to meet Tim and decide that he wants Tim on his side.
I want Jason to adopt Tim as his Robin, like he decides that he wants to recruit this 15 year old that is some how the smartest and snarkiest person in Gotham. I don't want infantilised tim, I want a sorta Nani and Lilo sibling dynamic, but with a smaller age gap.
Like sure, Jason sees his little brother as some sort of soggy kitten that he must protect, but also a Tim that is very capable of looking after himself.
I want Tim to look at Jason, see Bruce back when he first donned the Cape and traffic light colours. And then in true Tim fashion decide to fix him, B was being too over protective since Red Hood showed up anyways.
Like imagine, Jason meeting Tim instead by accident when he drops in on a drug trade. Tim says some quip that throws him off his game while fighting. Jason basically losing to a very deadly fifteen year old who's not slept in 29 hours, and he thinks 'f it, I like the kid'. Then trying to recruit him consistently until Tim goes 'why tf not'.
I want enemies to caretaker, but they both think they're the caretaker

Joel sits awkwardly at a family dinner table that isnβt for him.
Itβs nice and all, he reckons, for Impulseβs family to invite him over after he leaves the hospital. Even beforeβeverythingβJoelβs family hadnβt really been the βbig meal around a big tableβ type, so heβs getting some new experiences here too. And itβs nice and all, that they want to thank him for his role in finding Skizz.
But like. Itβs not like he or Impulse or Skizz could explain how it happened, when asked. βMagic brain ghostsβ and βevil butterfliesβ and βJoel still isnβt certain all of that was real and is trying to pretend it wasnβtβ puts a damper on that. Also, adults are kind of shit at talking around the fact Joelβs whole family is dead, so he gets the sense heβs sort of harshing the vibes, you know?
Still. Itβs a nice gesture. He guesses. Itβs free food at least, which is decent, and as close as Impulse and Skizz are, every time one of Impulseβs family says something stupid, Skizz taps Joelβs leg with his foot or steals a roll or something, and it makes Joel feelβ¦
Heβd have been sad if Skizz had died, probably. Like, he wouldnβt know. He didnβt come here to make friends, he came here to get a degree and get out. Also, thatβs stupid, because itβs not like Joel would have known he was missing a really awkward congratulatory family dinner in which Skizz kept on trying to sneakily steal beans. Probably would have just moved right on. Heβs notβ¦ friendly.
But.
They stand outside afterwards, waving by to Impulse, promising to walk together so that neither of them Vanish. Theyβre quiet.
βThanks, man. That meant a lot to them,β Skizz says.
βYeah, well, I can do stupid things for free food,β Joel says.
Skizz laughs. βIt was nice having you there, too. Man, theyβre even worse with you! Itβs like not knowing you means theyβre even more awkward about family tragedy.β
βTrust me, most adults are way worse. You should see my social worker,β Joel says.
βDidnβt he ditch you, dude?β
βHaha, yeah, he did,β Joel says.
They stare up at the streetlamps together.
βI was really ready to go for a bit there,β Skizz says. Joelβs hackles raise. Oh no. Emotions. Bad. Go away. βIt was likeβman, it felt like the whole world was empty. But when you showed up, itβs like I rememberedβ¦ Iβd miss dinners, dude.β
βI have no idea why, that kinda sucked,β Joel says, baffled and sarcastic, because heβs a moron who canβt handle emotional conversations, this is why everyone avoided him at the funeral, stupid.
Skizz breaks out laughing.
βYouβre great, man! Iβm glad we met. Uh, my place is only a block away, and I wonβt go following any stupid butterflies. See you at school?β
βYeah man. See you,β Joel saysβ

Skizzβs almost frustratingly strong and comforting arms grab Joel.
βTell me you heard that,β Joel says desperately.
βIβI donβt know what youβre talking about. I could take you back to the hospitalβno?β
βI am either crazy or am going to end up in a government lab?β Joel says, voice getting high and squeaky.
βWe can ask Mr. Hills about it? He came to talk to me after I woke up in the hospital, apparently he like, knows stuff,β Skizz says.
βI donβt wanna,β Joel says.
βTough luck, buddy, you just almost fell over and cracked your head open!β
Suddenly, Joel remembers a long-nosed man and a blonde in a very blue boat. He remembers a cryptic conversation about bonds and power and their importance. He takes a deep breath. βCan you cover your ears for a moment?β he says.
βYeah, sure thing, whyββ
Joel, as loudly as he can, screams. He hears several birds fly away. He pants.
ββ¦Joel,β Skizz says.
βYeah thanks man donβt worry about it letβs never speak of this again Iβm sure itβs nothing. I definitely didnβt have a weird dream about this and should go to bed.β
βYeah, okay, whatever you say,β Skizz says cheerfully before laughing, which Joel continues grumbling about all the way back to his apartment.

On the list of people I would never have been interested in, Renna's near the top. Yet Xelia Mendes-Jones brought it. I am So Invested. If you are ever in charge of a kid it is IMPERATIVE that you sometimes let them get away with stuff, because you will never see a grin like the grin of a kid who is Getting Away With Something. You gotta be a coconspirator and help them steal extra slices of capsicum that were supposed to go in the frying pan for dinner. You gotta pretend you don't know exactly what they're doing when they try to buy themselves another ten minutes before bed. I absolutely promise that the benefit of enforcing a non-essential rule 100% of the time is nothing compared to watching their delight over successfully breaking it.
#and in addition to being SUPER CUTE#learning when and how to break rules is honestly just as important as learning to follow them#so you are teaching important life skills and being rewarded with the Cheekiest Grin on Earth#(obviously the flip side to this is being clear about which rules are necessary always and absolutely)#(we don't run out onto the road even if there's a pigeon sitting there that we REALLY want to chase)#(we don't hit other people even if we're really angry they won't read us six stories in a row)#(these examples are geared at toddlers with poor impulse control bc i'm drawing from my own life but you get the idea)

Augh
#fancy is really struggling#and the babies are lovely and just FASCINATING in how they developed around but not shaped by humans and i so very deeply enjoy them#but they are also a little ungovernable due to their age and general lack of caring about rules and they are bothersome and rowdy#and it is obviously so so hard on her and my heart is breaking because im afraid we wont be able to get her through this#and i will have to give the babies up#and...not have another cat#just one#i would be crushed#and added to all of that is that the babies are taking their time learning to be pets and that is fine and wonderful actually#but...i need surgery on at least one ankle and i won't be able to keep up with them if things haven't sorted themselves out by then#and they haven't become more manageable and fancy hasn't adjusted#so we are asking about meds for poor fancy and hoping that works#but she's really having a hard time guys and i am fighting so hard to cope in a household where i spend most of my time alone#with two animals who don't love me yet or interact with me like pets (i'm a source of three things: food and snuggles on demand and NO STOP#and one who is sad and not herself#and frankly it's terrible that i can't fix this#and i am trying not to lose my shit but this wasn't supposed to be so hard#and im afraid i may lose five cats and not three#and im already barely holding on#i don't know what to do and neither does my boyfriend#i don't want to turn around and have to tell you guys we can't keep the babies#i feel like i am failing at something i am supposed to be GOOD AT#i don't want to be in a house so empty#i can't live like that#having the babies is lovely#they're so alive and the boys were so sick by the end and the stress of the constant anxiety and grief as they faded away was crushing#even before they died#it's been so good to have them running about#i don't want to LOSE that#im so tired of LOSING things

Wish we could have seen a Kendra-Faith discussion on their philosophies toward slaying because like yes they're opposites in some ways but they've also both fully accepted their slayerhood as a core part of their identities in a way that takes Buffy a long time
#like i think kendra would be against the whole we don't need the law want take have thing#not bc she's against breaking rules or even breaking the law but bc she thinks that they need to hold themselves accountable#in a way that many people in power don't#and i think she would jab faith about taking her training more seriously beyond just the fighting skills#and learning more history/research and mental/spiritual stuff#but I also think that she would agree with Faith about slaying being fun and they would get so into training together#and get competitive about everything#idk i would have liked to see it#kendra young#faith lehane#btvs#buffy#buffy the vampire slayer

Guys I recently, at the suggestion of a couple friends, started watching the Life Series.
