Excellent point! I’m sad now.
one thing about kaladin is that he loves a dramatic entrance. absolutely fucking loves it. his Herald ass is about to touch down on Roshar sooooo dramatically with Syl in circa 10 years after being presumed dead. levels of drama never before seen. The Duel put to shame. he's gonna be wearing his cape

I really appreciate that, since we get a lot of interaction with Maya, and insight into who she is, I can finally come to a conclusion about cultivation spren which is that
Wyndle is just LIKE that isn't he, that's not a normal little guy

szeth backstory on the brain fr one of my fave characters in the series for how weird he is. i spent years of my life reading these books and speculating why szeth was named truthless like i assumed it was for an attempted assassination or just spreading the wrong kind of truth but actually getting to wind and truth and learning like. no he almost overthrew the entire system in shinovar. he led a genuine military revolution of the church. it was a doomed effort but it wasn't like he didn't get very close to actually doing it. i am so fascinated by characters whose main characteristic is pure conviction but learning that he's been like that for literally his entire life.....

Anyone else kinda feel like Kaladin came across a little bit as a mouthpiece for a whole lot of therapy-speak in Wind and Truth? Like I'm proud of him for healing, I'm glad he's healing, I enjoyed seeing him be an emotionally intellegent chatacter in the book, but I've seen a few others mention that certain core aspects of him felt absent.
It kinda felt like... I dunno, Sanderson was really excited to convey to the audience that he as the author understands how complex and nuanced the healing process can be, and to give them something to connect to on their own personal journies, which I think he did very well. But somewhere along the way KALADIN as a character got a little bit lost in all the therapy talk. Like he spent no real time thinking of Bridge Four, or his family and friends. Wouldn't even need to be worrying about them constantly or anything, just thinking about them in general. I feel like he really didn't need to stop thinking about them in order to show that he's learning to live for himself. Overall I still love the direction for Kaladin though, it's way better than where he was.

So would that reset him back at the 1st ideal? I feel like if he becomes a Aly dealer as long as he doesn’t break his oaths he should go back to being 5th ideal
Szeth, looking for a new spren after having speedrun the fifth oath: listen up fives, a ten is talking.

I'm going to be thinking about Sigzil renouncing his oaths for the next eight hundred years. After Sunlit Man I assumed it was some cataclysmically bad event where he was in a leadership position, or failure of judgment, that pushed him to break his Windrunner oaths, and spent essentially every shattered plains chapter waiting for things to go horribly wrong. After all that only for it to be in protection of Vienta. Giving up his bond, and the sky, and his oaths, protecting someone. The very cornerstone of the windrunner ideals. I'm never going to emotionally recover from this.

Yeah but it’s less their souls than it is their bodies. Their bodies are on braize, but their minds are in this peaceful construct.
I'm also really skeptical about the assumption that the heralds' souls being on Braize won't be at all harmful. Like if we're taking the existence of souls as a given, don't you think just having it separate from your mind and body, let alone having it trapped in superhell, would mess with the effectiveness of any mental health treatment you're trying do? Idk man idk

i'm reading wat and just got to the part where shallan sees her childhood again and she mentions helaran and how kaladin kills him in a few years which surprised me cause i don't remember kaladin ever telling her he did it?
oh kaladin didn't tell her, he found out helaran was her brother when they were marooned in the shattered plains together but it's adolin who puts it together from kaladin's story and tells her in oathbringer. it's a really quick moment especially because shallan immediately goes "okay im not thinking about that right now i can't think about that right now" and literally never thinks about it on page again
