âIâm always trying to figure out what to say about this god damn song. Part of me wants to say look, itâs about revenge, but as soon as I say that⌠no, thatâs not quite it. Part of me wants to say itâs about the satisfaction of not needing revenge⌠and i say no, thatâs some new age stuff. I think itâs a song about the moment in your quest for revenge when you learn to embrace the futility of it. The moment where you know the thing you want is ridiculous and pompous and a terrible thing to want anyway. The direction in which youâre headed is not the direction you want to go, yet youâre going to head that way a while longer cause thatâs just the kind of person you are.â
â John Darnielle

they teach you the golden rule, treat others how you want to be treated, but in a pinch you can apply the silver rule (be kinda selfish because youâve earned it) or even the bronze rule (manipulate others purely for your benefit).

kaladin would say heâs a liberal, but the truth is more complex. he has a lot of more leftist ideas from his own experiences that he hasnât fully articulated because he doesnât really think about that as politics, thatâs just common sense. but when it comes to actual voting, heâs definitely a vote blue no matter who âwe need a liberal person in control of the broken systemâ instead of considering the systems that are broken. moash is originally only slightly left of this âwe donât need a liberal in charge of the broken system, we need a leftistâ but now he canât vote because of his multiple felony assault convictions.
#bored in the car. i think i need to get back in touch with the source material.#yea this isnât gonna be rebloggable

if you see a post going around saying december 6th is quote unquote "officially socially reassigned sarqqin day" celebrating a new canonical trans man in wind and truth or whatever, do not fucking celebrate it. in the exact same scene adolin deduces someone who says that they are a man and wants to go by he/him and join the army is Totally A Cis Girl Faking It because they haven't legally transitioned and they don't "look" enough like a man (read: they're stringy and short instead of tall and buff). the book is using this new canonical trans man to canonize Transphobic In A Very Real-Life Way Adolin. if you celebrate this or spread any positive posts about this i will hardblock you on both main and side.
#how do i have no memory of this character did i delete transphobic adolin from my mind even when i was at peak hating him?#adolin sucks so fucking much in wat sorry#i donât even blame adolin this is sanderson being so shitty and using everyoneâs favorite darling to do it#anyways i looked at sarqqinâs coppermind bc i had no memory of him#how did i miss all that#this is the same as the reshi kingâs intro where rysn kept insisting he was a woman#which like. controversial take. would be almost ok if sanderson wanted to like. EXAMINE THE TRANSPHOBIA IN THESE CULTURES#whatever#wind and truth#sarqqin#adolin#sanderson critical#the stormlight archive

#not even like the most deaths per stormlight book#ob had the most named character deaths i think#in wat it was JUST dalinar#unless you count leyten#but if youâre counting named bridgemen then twok had more#so still itâs just one or two#maybe row had moreâŚ. hm does anyone have the per book stats on named character deaths#the stormlight archive#wat spoilers#wind and truth

Vin and elendâs relationship is a tapestry of most of my issues with Brandonâs romance writing
1- minimal interaction until they suddenly fall in love with each other
2- female character worries her being powerful is emasculating to her boyfriend
3- female character worries sheâs not feminine enough (repeatedly??? It felt like vin had this realization practically every book)
4- female characterâs closest relationship is with her male partner alongside other male friends and she has zero positive female relationships
5- Brandonâs aversion to anything remotely sexy means they have to just chastely hold hands for a while until they actually get married (bc all of his good guys have to end up married. See: Mormonism) and only then will he allow them to canonically have sex. And even then itâs a single sentence off-screen allusion that I think he probably vomited while typing
yea their relationship did nothing for me and was in fact a big detraction. it made me like both of them as individuals less

everyone should read witch king by martha wells. the reason i just thought of it and iâm recommending it is actually spoilers, but the short of it is the politics are good.

Mistborn is one of those series I like less and less as time goes on. I went into it hearing it had a female main character and went âoh sweetâ and then I read it and the entire rest of the main cast is male and every other female character is either dead or evil. Or both.
when i read final empire, the ending felt like the biggest letdown. having the whole revolution end with another nobleman becoming king. kelsier did NOT die for this. i would like to finish the series just for the whole picture. i liked some of the politics in the first half of well of ascension. but my understanding is after that, elend just makes himself emperor so like whatâs the point.
also re: female characters, the thing that bothered me most in well of ascension was how much vin get like her being strong was emasculating to elend. girl, he doesnât deserve you.

if i understand correct, in mistborn era 1 they killed John Racist, CEO of Racism, and appointed a new CEO of Racism AND by the third book they were like âJohn Racist wasnât even that bad. John Racist made some points.â
