something that drives me insane on a relatively regular basis as a body jewelry understander is talking to people who have sensitive skin who are like "oh well I just can't wear any earrings without my ears getting inflamed" and I say "well what have you tried" and they say "well I've tried sterling silver and I've tried gold..." and it's like. ok. I don't know how gold and sterling somehow got spun by the jewelry industry as being especially good for sensitive skin but whenever I'm like "well have you tried implant grade titanium" they're always like "no....... but I've tried sterling silver... and it didn't work ..." like. I don't know how this narrative about sterling silver somehow got so strong but when they put pins in your fucking legs when you snap your leg in half are those pins made of sterling silver or are they made of implant grade titanium or surgical steel????????? HELLO. HI. YOU MIGHT BENEFIT FROM TRYING IMPLANT GRADE TITANIUM I AM JUST SAYING

I think the thing that Gets Me about Veilguard is just how much of an impossible task it had heaped on it from EA from the start of its inception.

It’s arguably supposed to be a soft reboot for the series while ALSO being a follow up to Inquisition. These are two fundamentally incompatible goals in my opinion. This game had to walk the most insane line of any video game in recent memory. I guess EA wanted to have their cake and eat it too.

And the more I think about it the sadder I become for the original team who worked on Joplin. From what I’ve seen of the art book, Joplin was going to be about as firm a sequel to DAI as you could get - with references to rescuing whoever was left in the Fade, having Calpernia and Imshael as companions, having to fight Solas’ agents, etc.

Then EA makes them scrap it for live service. Fine. But wait - now we’re scrapping it again. Back to single person RPG but you also kind of need to distance yourself from the previous games as much as possible while still somehow being a follow up to the previous game.

New setting, few returning companions, and new Big Bads in the form of Elgarnan and Ghilanain to get a clean slate. Any mention of what’s happening in the South (where we spent 3 whole games!) needs to be relegated to letters and codex. ** I dont have the art book yet, so I dont know if these two were supposed to appear in Joplin beside Solas - or if Solas was supposed to be the sole antagonist in that iteration of the game.

But.. I hope you see what I mean when I say this game had a monumentally, borderline impossible task ahead of it. And when I think of it that way, I think it did as good a job as it possibly could. Especially since the actual development time was closer to 3ish yrs to get what we know of as datv today even though it’s been 10 whole years since DAI.

I hope it’s successful enough to get DA5, but who know’s what’ll happen.

I wish everyone except the EA execs who meddled with this game’s development and are seemingly trying to kill dragon age a pleasant day. I have a cynical detective I need to romance 😔

I'm rewatching GF since the whole world seems to be into it right now (thank you Alex and the Book of Bill) and AGHHH I FORGOR about the body swap episode when the twins find the secret room and Stan picks up Ford's glasses and later we see him sitting on the couch looking at them wistfully...

Ok so we know these are Leola's bones and we know Aaravos was imprisoned beside them.

Now consider, while he may not have been able to see them from his prison, Aaravos being surrounded by his daughters remains means he was also distinctly aware of them breaking down, decomposing overtime or being touched by other creatures.

Consider an Aaravos who uses his light form to project himself into the waters around his prison and see pieces of his daughter's bones breaking apart. Watching her be slowly buried under the sand or overtake by any manner of plant or creature. Did he feel the ocean floor shift or shake when the first pieces of her ribs fell off?

To make things worse, if her bones are here, and her body fell to earth, that means Aaravos didn't just cry over the crater she fell into, he cried over her body. Or whatever was left of it. Maybe He saw the flesh rot from her bones, but more likely her body burned falling to earth, and he saw her shattered skeleton instead.

Would he have rearranged her bones to lay correctly? Or could he not bring himself to touch any of them?

The more you think about it the worse it gets.

Nothing more quickly shows that on some deep level many tumblrinas think mental illness is always the result of bad parenting than the way people here talk about mental illness in kids.

Because when we talk adults, its all uwu its not your fault, your brain chemicals just hate you, it's a sickness just like diabetes, take your meds. But as soon as kids come up, people reblog posts to the tune of 10ks of notes that say things like all kids behave great as long as their parents actually listen and accommodate them!

And look. I'm gripping your shoulders. I'm staring you in the eye. I am explaining: if you truly believe that mental illness is an actual illness caused by biological factors outside of our control then you must, absolutely must, embrace and understand, that some children will therefore have major, not cute, not simple behavioral issues *that are in no way their parents' fault.*

Please unpack your unexamined nature vs nurture views, I am begging you.
