Star Wars Pride Icons Part 2: Lando Calrissian

Here's one more Star Wars Pride Icons to end the little Star Wars weekend we have going on.

Lando is canonically Pan according to one of the writers of the Han Solo movie. It's nice seeing that they decided to make a character that exist for a long time in the Star Wars universe, becoming canonically Queer.

You know what?  I had a good time with the Mando s3 premiere!  It legitimately was a lot of fun to watch and I found I couldn’t wait to get on-line and make shitposts about it, which is the truest sign of my affection for something.

How could I hate that they chose the objectively funniest route for explaining Grogu’s return happening in a completely separate series:  DON’T EXPLAIN SHIT.  THROW YOUR AUDIENCE IN THE DEEP END OF THE POOL.  SINK OR SWIM, ASSHOLES.

Greef Karga’s fashion game is ON POINT, that man was looking absolutely fucking fine, finally we have a worthy cape successor to Lando Calrissian.  The man brought along two droids to keep the hem of his cape off the floor, for fuck’s sake.  #ICONIC

And on the opposite end of the emotional scale, jesus FUCK IG-11′s torso crawling across the floor to try to kill a baby, practically fucking skittering at warp speed, was TERRIFYING.

ghost crew mother turned military leader. she's one of the few female characters we get to see with high military status and we get to see her growth up to that position. she loses so much but she always keeps going because its whats right. also best pilot in the galaxy is hera syndulla argue with a wall

BEST REDEMPTION ARC IN ALL OF STAR WARS FIGHT ME ON THIS SUCK MY DICK AND BALLS also he's voiced by david oyelowo and that man has such an attractive voice. i fully believe that the fandom would not have accepted kallus's redemption arc w any other va bc the subtlety david oyelowo puts into that performance is fucking insane

favorite of the clones. to be fair he is everything that a clone is supposed to be which can be boring to some people, but i find it really interesting. his armor is by far my favorite armor in the show too which does contribute to him being up so high, sorry im a sucker for good character design

5. din djarin

father #1 on the list. pedro pascal bedroom voice, need i say more, but i will. hes such a morally gray character in the beginning but hes also so funny. bro asked luke skywalker if he was a jedi. din is the definition of main character who really wishes he wasn't one. also themes of religion and the intensity of different denominations of it is so interesting esp within star wars

father #2 on the list. his fighting style is one of my favorites in star wars, even though we mostly see that from him in his episodes in clone wars. also favorite clone design in terms of how he differentiates himself from the other clones aka not his armor

child of father #2 on the list, but she's also so luke/ezra coded. she can make friends with everyone, including hounds, regardless of the shitty hand of cards she's been dealt. also she gambles and is a child which is hilarious

the character ever. if he were an organic being he would have the saddest story in star wars, besides obi-wan shhh. he's there for everything and even when c3po is reprogrammed to work for the empire during rebels, artoo isnt, showing how useful that lil mf is. also anyone that stands up to chopper is so brave in my book

9. torra doza (from resistance)

this is such a random pick, especially bc i dont really like the sequels and this show comes right before them, but i just remember her being such a good character. design again is a big thing in this, but she's also a super talented pilot which i love. she's optimistic and bubbly, which isnt my favorite thing in a character, but i like how she was done so she has to be on here. sorry i feel like nobody knows who she is

is this bc donald glover plays young lando? uh....neways lando did NOTHING WRONG. he gave up han because he had to protect his people and he ultimately makes up for doing that anyways. also charismatic and so so so sexy (all versions of him) what an iconic star wars character

1- Lando because come on, he's Lando! He's great, love him.

2- I was so close to put here Max only because I love the goofy design, and I know some funfacts about him, like he was supposed to be playing with his feet but that was a bit hard to do for the movie, also the suit was so heavy that even if it was a person wearing a suit, there had to be two persons has puppeteers to help, the poor guy couldn't even see nor move his head! And, as a fun fact, his band had a rivarly with the jizz band that was playing in the Cantina in a New Hope. The fact that they couldn't quite show that his species uses their feet as hands because of the limitations of the time, makes me think that maybe that had something to do with Sebulba's design, they had CGI now so GL probably was going crazy with designs that weren't possible back them.

But overall, Ventress is a better character, and has actual development and she is cool, so she goes here NKJDSFJNDFS

3- Max, because of all what i said before.

4- Jabba because he's iconic, come on.

5- I had to literally google Maz to know who she was and i was expecting such a background and obscure and random passing-by character, but the fact that she's actually a secondary character that does some important things and i still couldn't remember her says a lot. She's just...there. The most memorable thing I remember of her is that she flirted with Chewie

List of Your Ten Childhood Ships

Thanks @thefirstcourtesan for tagging me. I'm so showing my age here, lol I'm going to count "childhood" right up through the end of high school for these purposes. God, I'm straining my brain. lol What's sad is, outside of Jodie Dallas on Soap, I cannot even recall a queer character, much less pairing, from my childhood. How sad is that? So this list is def hetero as it comes.

This is in no order - not really...

Princess Leia and Han Solo - Star Wars: OK, this was THE couple of my childhood. I was OBSESSED and still am. There was NO better movie than The Empire Strikes Back. The "I love you." "I know." sequence. Goddamn, I've always had a type; it goes back to childhood. I'm ashamed (not really).

Lando Calrissian & Princess Leia - Star Wars: OK - this is bringing back memories - and this is fucking crazy - I did write fanfic as a kid, and it was a Han/Leia/Lando triangle (as good as a 5th grader can write...). God, I'd kill to have that notebook now, and OMG, what a predictor for DTI. 😂😂😂 Even as a tween, I knew that would have been some juicy triangle that never came to be. lol

Sandy & Danny - Grease: Some asides. I was WAY too young to be watching this when it was out (my Mom was insane). Most of it went over my head, and in retrospect, I am so anti-most messages in Grease - but that doesn't mean I don't still love it. I do. And OMG How I loved Sandy & Danny and danced around my living room pretending I was them. lol

Jessie & Angie - All My Children: I was a soap junkie, so I have a lot of soap ships - but this is one of my all-time favorites. A modern-day Romeo & Juliet, and the soap world's first true black super-couple. Angie's well-to-do family forbade a relationship with her obvious soulmate, Jesse. They eventually got together, but in true soap fashion, that didn't last. A death that wasn't really a death, among other things, impeded. But how I remember watching those summers and rushing home from school to check the VCR and pray it recorded. lol OLD SCHOOL!

Kevin & Winnie - The Wonder Years: This was the sweetest show and first love story. The ending was so poignant and probably led to my penchant for beautiful but heart-wrenching endings. I need to rewatch this sometime.

Maddie & David - Moonlighting: This one makes me sad, thinking of Bruce Willis's current condition. 😢 These two drove each other crazy, but the sexual tension radiated from the TV screen. They were the ultimate "will they???" couple, and even when they did, they still never really got it together, but that didn't mean I stopped rooting for them. Sadly, this show is just about completely not available on streaming/reruns due to musical copyright issues.

Nina Cortland & Cliff Warner - All My Children: Told you. I was a soap addict, and AMC will forever be my favorite show. I don't remember how old I was, but I remember that their wedding took place THE DAY that we went back to school, and my prepubescent little girlfriends and I LOST OUR SHIT. This wasn't the days of reruns, this wasn't the days of DVR, this wasn't even the days of Soap Central (y'all don't even know what that is). These were the days of "You missed it, bitch - so sad." And I was...I was...

Maria & Georg - The Sound of Music: OK - I loved musicals from a very young age, and I am forever obsessed with The Sound of Music. I had a mad crush on Georg as a young girl, proof that assholes with a heart underneath it all have ALWAYS been my thing. lol

Dwayne & Whitley - A Different World: It was not a pairing I liked the idea of - initially. Whitley was such a spoiled, obnoxious, rich princess at the start, and Dwayne didn't seem like he'd ever have a chance, but as time moved on, they made it work, and I tuned in each week, dying for them to finally get together.

John & Claire: The Breakfast Club - What can I say - I have a type? lol This was the iconic couple of my teen years, and if had been writing fanfic at that time, I would have had a treasure trove for them.

Two part 4

“It’s just…” Alex says, and as he’s on the floor of a supply closet, waiting out a security threat with a Prince of England at the end of a weekend that has felt like some very specific ongoing nightmare, censoring himself takes too much effort. “I don’t know. Doing what we do is fucking hard. But it’s harder for me. I’m the son of the first female president. And I’m not white like she is, can’t even pass for it. People will always come down harder on me. And you’re, you know, you, and you were born into all of this, and everyone thinks you’re Prince fucking Charming. You’re basically a living reminder I’ll always be compared to someone else, no matter what I do, even if I work twice as hard.”

“Well,” Henry says when he speaks at last. “I can’t very well do much about the rest. But I can tell you I was, in fact, a prick that day. Not that it’s any excuse, but my father had died fourteen months before, and I was still kind of a prick every day of my life at the time. And I am sorry.”

“To answer your question,” Henry says. “Yes, I do like Star Wars, and my favorite is Return of the Jedi.”

“Oh,” Alex says. “Wow, you’re wrong.”

Henry huffs out the tiniest, most poshly indignant puff of air. It smells minty. Alex resists the urge to throw another elbow. “How can I be wrong about my own favorite? It’s a personal truth.”

“It’s a personal truth that is wrong and bad.”

“Which do you prefer, then? Please show me the error of my ways.”

“Okay, Empire.”

Henry sniffs. “So dark, though.”

“Yeah, which is what makes it good,” Alex says. “It’s the most thematically complex. It’s got the Han and Leia kiss in it, you meet Yoda, Han is at the top of his game, fucking Lando Calrissian, and the best twist in cinematic history. What does Jedi have? Fuckin’ Ewoks.”

“Ewoks are iconic.”

“Ewoks are stupid.”

“But Endor.”

“But Hoth. There’s a reason people always call the best, grittiest installment of a trilogy the Empire of the series.”

“And I can appreciate that. But isn’t there something to be valued in a happy ending as well?”

“Spoken like a true Prince Charming.”

“I’m only saying, I like the resolution of Jedi. It ties everything up nicely. And the overall theme you’re intended to take away from the films is hope and love and … er, you know, all that. Which is what Jedi leaves you with a sense of most of all.”

Henry coughs, and Alex is turning to look at him again when the door opens and Cash’s giant silhouette reappears.

“False alarm,” he says, breathing heavily. “Some dumbass kids brought fireworks for their friend.” He looks down at them, flat on their backs and blinking up in the sudden, harsh light of the hallway. “This looks cozy.”

“Yep, we’re really bonding,” Alex says.
