[ havana rose liu + demi woman + she or they ] ⸻ meet suki lee sook yee, a twenty seven year old, who has been in cloyne for three weeks. they are a mechanic at the garage, known for being charming and biting. they are often heard humming along to come as you are by nirvana. residents would describe them as the on the lam rockstar.
full name : lee sook yee. age : twenty seven. date of birth : august 10th, 1997. place of birth : brooklyn, new york. also known as : suki. epithet : the on the lam rockstar. gender & pronouns : demi woman & she or they. orientation : bisexual demiromantic. occupation : mechanic at the garage. presently on the run from the authorities for participating in illegal car racing and the buying and selling of stolen car parts, among other things. parents : lee fook yee & rose harrison. siblings : none. partner(s) : single. children : none.
introduction ⸻
it began as a hobby. suki had been thirteen, on the cusp of puberty and her main enemy ( besides her crippling anxiety and body dysmorphia ) had been her father. lee fook yee was the very image of the american dream ─ an immigrant from singapore, he had started up his practice in the late 80s and achieved unprecedent success in their little borough in new york. there had been struggles, of course, but none that he wished to share with his impressionable young daughter. perhaps, if he had, suki would have been able to sympathize with him more, but as it stood, their father was a drill sergeant in their eyes and anything that unsettled him only served to entice them. auto body work was not the purpose of high school shop, but as long as she cleaned up after herself, no one really cared what she did after school hours and her talent for painting ( cars and other things, as the local police force would report, grabbing her from where she had just spray painted another wall ) caught the eye of the resident autobody shop, who offered her a part - time gig working for them. their father had been against it, wanting them to focus on school, which was probably why suki ( who had long since shed their given name of sook yee for something more american ) had accepted it in the first place. whatever concerns he had proved to be correct, however, as she dropped out of school just a few weeks before graduation to run a six - car gig for the shop to texas. he had left them a voice message on the morning of their graduation, telling them never to come back and suki, taking it as a challenge, left brooklyn for good. at first, her jobs were mostly innocent and legitimate, but being alone at eighteen was more difficult than the movies made it out to be, and it wasn't long before she was running somewhat illegal transportation deals for the boss, racing souped up cars on the side for a handful of dollars that barely kept her fed on most months. they were twenty one when they stole their first car ─ it was a pretty thing, foreign with an engine that purred like a contented cat with just a flick of the wrist. suki learned that real money was made with flipped vehicles sold to flashy up - and - comers across the border and demanded in on the job, running parts across north america for the next six years until a slip up saw her nearly caught by the authorities. iced out and sent to canada to cool off until the heat died down, suki threw a dart at the map and went to the place it landed on ─ cloyne, ontario, unaware that her arrival would soon be followed by two murders and a town that now looks at her with increasing suspicion.

MOE Pt. 7: Care Sessions, Talks with the Principal, Career Decisions
Image credit: The Manthan School, Greater Noida West
I joined a care session during one specific morning assembly period.
"Which student do you want to talk to?" my mentor asked.
"That one." I pointed at the kid with glasses, sitting the furthest away from his class' row. We were at the hall, getting ready for flag-raising ceremony and I saw that he was the only one reading a book out of all classmates. Hardworking! But also due to the fact I had encountered him a few times during my stint here and he was one of those that I could actually remember the name of, haha.
We sat down at the school cafeteria. My mentor, me, and this student named M. (Full name retracted for privacy reasons)
"Good morning!" I addressed him with a smile.
"Everything is fine." M said.
I was taken aback because I had not asked him how he was doing yet.
My mentor smiled and took over, "You've met Mr Stanley, right? He has been here for a while. We wanted to find out how you're doing so far."
"Everything is fine." The same response, he was smiling throughout though, it was not defensive.
"I'm glad everything is fine! Could you tell me more about it? What's going well so far?" I decided to probe further. My mentor was beside me and briefed me before the session, she was alright for me to take the lead.
He told me his results are good, he studies hard but makes sure to set aside time to relax as well. He is disciplined in his sleep schedule and values rest.
I was amazed, to be honest. I did not figure out these things when I was his age. I quickly realized the education system has come a long way from when I was in school ten years ago. Mental health has definitely become a priority, because he was talking about concepts like mindfulness, stress management, and things I've only gotten to learn later in life.
My mentor chimed in with an unexpected question, "Are you involved in any relationships?"
He laughed and did not answer the question.
Of course, relationships! These were teenagers and this is that period in their life where it would be important to openly discuss it, in case it was unhealthy or affecting their education. I let my mentor take the lead in this topic and listened attentively.
Overall, the care session went well. This student was genuinely happy about his progress in school and shared with me his goals for the future. I wished him (and his relationship) the best, too!
The next part of this post will be about my meeting with Mr. Lam, the principal of Admiralty Secondary School.
It was almost the end of my internship period at this point and the purpose of this internship was so I could consider a career in teaching with MOE. Oh, by the way, the names above? Germaine and Xing Yee were my intern buddies! They were from NUS/NTU respectively and I won't forget the bond we've formed (hint: all the mini-meltdown sessions we shared during our initial adjustment periods)
Mr. Lam had a few questions for me, whether this was something I could consider myself doing long-term and whether I enjoyed the experience so far.
I told him this school had one of the most passionate teachers ever. All the teachers treated me as if I was one of their long-time colleagues. The senior teachers were like mothers and made sure I was not too burnt out and gave me tips on what they wished they had figured out when they were starting this career at my age.
I told him honestly that at this point, I wanted to explore music further. My concern was that music is not seen as a core module in a lot of governmental schools and there was only so much I could do when my subject is not deemed as necessary.
Mr. Lam agreed with this and told me something I still remember today. "You have to ask yourself how much you are willing to let go of music."
The duties of an MOE teacher lies beyond teaching. A lot of it is about teaching values and building a child's confidence and character in society. Being someone who values mental health and a highly sensitive empath, I know I would be a good teacher, but I also knew I would be the type to burn out easily because I would care about my students a lot more than myself. Gradually, I would not have the mental capacity to pursue my art either and that would make me sad.
I declined the invitation to apply for the MOE scholarship and thanked him a ton for cultivating such a positive school environment. I wished I had such a loving principal and teachers when I was in school!

The Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) has teamed up with the Hong Kong Police Force to establish a task force aimed at combating illicit activities among crypto exchanges. “The working group was established after a high-level meeting of the two parties on 28 September 2023,” the statement declared. Hong Kong SFC To Ramp Up Monitoring of Illicit Crypto Operations In a statement, the Hong Kong SFC declared the formation of a task force dedicated to actively clamping down on crypto exchanges in the region. “The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) has established a dedicated working group with the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) to enhance collaboration in monitoring and investigating illegal activities related to Virtual Asset Trading Platforms (VATPs).” The statement also highlights that the collaboration will involve the exchange of information between the police force and the regulator. Additionally, it will implement a comprehensive risk assessment process for crypto exchanges deemed “suspicious.” The team will consist of members from various Hong Kong authorities covering diverse areas. These include the HKPF’s Commercial Crime Bureau, Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau, Financial Intelligence and Investigations Bureau, as well as the SFC’s Enforcement Division and Intermediaries Division. Furthermore, the goal is to safeguard the interests of investors in the region. This development arises amidst persistent issues involving the crypto exchange JPEX. Hong Kong Flooded with Complaints About Crypto Exchange JPEX Hong Kong authorities have received more than 1,408 fraud complaints concerning JPEX’s operations. Even more concerning is the fact that the total losses incurred due to JPEX’s unlicensed activities amount to HK$1.3 billion. Crypto data aggregator CoinMarketCap, which monitors the world’s major crypto exchanges, has categorized JPEX as an “untracked listing.” The website explains that this category is designated for projects that do not align with CoinMarketCap’s guidelines. Extract of JPEX profile on CoinMarketCap. Source: CoinMarketCap Furthermore, Hong Kong Police have arrested 11 people connected to JPEX. However, among those arrested, some were company employees, while others were promoting the exchange online. Reportedly, social media influencers Joseph Lam Cook, Chan Wing-yee, and Chu Ka-fai were arrested. Meanwhile, the HKMA recently issued a warning cautioning crypto companies against labeling themselves as “banks.” The advisory expressly mandates that crypto firms distinguish themselves from traditional financial institutions and transparently disclose the investment risks associated with crypto.
