Translating NORN9: Hiyokos

Welcome back to “Translating NORN9”, where I translate NORN9 content!

Today I’m going to translate the Hiyoko Page. As a bit of trivia, all of the Hiyokos share thier VAs with the main characters

The Hiyokos living in Norn

These hiyokos take care of the personal belongings of those who board the Norn. However, no one knows their identities.

Pu Hiyoko

Voiced by: Takuya Sato (Masamune’s VA)

Pu Hiyoko has no particular role and always sits outside relaxing. He is dazed as if he doesn't care if he is thrown.

Maid Hiyoko

Voiced by: Ayumi Fujimura (Koharu's VA)

A solid Hiyoko who is good at cleaning rooms. When the bath is ready, she may come directly to notify the passenger.

Captain Hiyoko

Voiced by: Tomokazu Sugita (Ron's VA)

A Hiyoko piloting a Norn. With a scar on his forehead, wearing goggles and holding a cigar, he has a wild vibe.

Hiyocook

Voiced by: Ayahi Takagaki (Mikoto's VA)

This Hiyoko is in charge of managing ingredients and supporting passengers when they cook. They get angry when the passengers play instead of cook.

Librarian Hiyoko

Voiced by: Koji Yusa (Itsuki's VA)

A Hiyoko who manages Norn's library. Due to his timid personality, he doesn't pay attention to people who are making noise in the hall.

Reporter Hiyoko

Voiced by: Mitsuki Saiga (Sakuya's VA)

A Hiyoko who works as a reporter for the "HYC Channel". He is too enthusiastic and sometimes annoys others...

Cameraman Hiyoko

Voiced by: Daisuke Ono (Natsuhiko's VA)

He works as a dedicated cameraman for the "HYC Channel" and always supports the Reporter Hiyoko from behind.

Doctor Hiyoko

Voiced by: Asami Seto (Nanami's VA)

A Hiyoko that examines a passenger when he or she is sick. As an experienced doctor, they immediately respond to any disease.

Programmer Hiyoko

Voiced by: Hiroyuki Yoshino (Heishi's VA)

A Hiyoko who manages programs related to Norn. When it speaks, it chirps in a low, machine-like voice.

Introverted Hiyoko

Voiced by: Hiro Shimono (Senri’s VA)

A Hiyoko with a birthmark under his eye that appears in a dream. His feeble squeak and troubled expression are very similar to Senri's.

Hiyoko?

Voiced by: Noriaki Sugiyama (Akito's VA)

A Hiyoko that can catch fish. Its appearance is so confusing that Akito worries about it, but it is a chick, and if he is mistaken, he will be hurt and go insane.

White Hiyoko

Voiced by: Yuki Kaji (Kakeru's VA)

A white Hiyoko made by Natsuhiko and powered by AI. Using the green board it has, it acts as Mikoto's caretaker while having a conversation.

Once there was a little boy named Kagami who was born into a war.

Like all of the children in the Uchiha Clan, he knew of the ferocious, terrifying Senju who were trying to remove their clan from the face of the earth, and Kagami grew up to hate them just as much as the rest of his clan.

But Kagami was a little different to the rest of the Uchiha. He had a trait that made him different, that set him apart.

He was curious.

Which isn’t to say that there weren’t lots of curious Uchiha. There were.

A little curiosity in a child is perfectly understandable. Normal. It’s how children learn and grow.

But Kagami was insatiable.

His favourite, or at least his most commonly used, word was ‘why’.

Why was the sky blue? Why did it rain? Why do we make swords like this? Who invented ninjutsu? Why do we use this hand seal and not that one? What makes it cold? Hot? Why does fire consume fuel? Why does water put out fire? Why, why, why?

Lots of kids go through this phase, but they usually exhaust themselves shortly after they exhaust the patience of the adults around them.

Not Kagami.

It got to the point where adults would turn around a flee - in a dignified way of course! - at the sight of him coming because he would not stop asking questions.

So, when peace was declared between the Senju and the Uchiha, Kagami had more questions.

Why were the Uchiha making peace with people who had killed them? Why did the Senju want peace with the Uchiha? Why had monsters suddenly become people? Why can we trust them now when we couldn’t trust them before? Why, why, why?

Kagami went around the clan asking everyone that he knew. He asked his mother, his teachers, the elders, everyone. But none of the answers made sense. Some of them actively contradicted each other. At ten, Kagami was old enough to know when people were brushing him off with platitudes. So he asked one of the people who had actively called for peace.

Your Lie in April - Short Review

– Story –

Your Lie in April has a very simplistic storyline. It’s premise is generic but the execution is what sets it apart. The story revolves around Arima Kousei and his friends. It’s all about his best year in his school life where he achieved a lot. His colourless life was brightened and made colourful. He even managed to play the piano again. The best thing was that he fell in love. We have the typical clichés that make it fun to watch. Kousei is the main male character. You might feel that he’s a loser or someone too plain but as the story unfolds, you can feel his pain as well.

Main Characters

Kaori Miyazono

  Kaori is a 14 year old violinist that plays the violin HER way. In the end of the first episode, it was revealed that Kaori has a crush on Watari. She is beautiful, friendly, unpredictable and told a lie that brought the whole story together.

She is the female protagonist of the show. She’s the polar opposite of Kousei. In terms of flamboyant performances, she is first. She has a thinking that she wants to be remembered by others. Her violin play style is the epiphany of her personality. She is the reason why we see the development of Kousei.

 Kousei Arima

  Kousei is a 14 year old pianist to whom he lost his mother years ago. He isn’t good at sports, but he loves his egg sandwiches. When his mom died, he lost the ability to hear his piano notes. He meets Kaori and the more time they spend together, he starts to have feelings for her.

Kousei Arima has the most amazing development in this story as a character. He is the protagonist in the story. Kousei is a plain looking average child other than the time with pianos. He is an ex pianist prodigy. His life with the piano only brought him sorrow in the past. It’s the typical wimpy kid into a somewhat badass though.

Tsubaki Sawabe

 Tsubaki is a 14 year old softball player at her school. She is Kousei’s neibor and friend when they were younger. She is nice, caring, athletic and can be angered easily. She worries a lot about Kousei and in the series, she starts to have feelings for him.

The childhood friend of Kousei and a member of the softball team, Tsubaki Is my favourite character in this series. Her Unyielding support and love for Kousei is amazing. Unfortunately for her, the clichés are against her. She’s not as amazing as Kaori but her simplicity makes her shine for me. Also, she introduced Kaori to Ryota.

Watari Ryota

 Watari is a 14 year old caption of the school soccer team. He is funny and can be a play-boy. He has been Kousei’s friend along with Tsubaki when they were kids.

Ryota was the famous and dashing soccer player. His charisma is attractive. He unfortunately didn’t have a very happy ending. He was the reason why Kousei and Kaori enjoyed some time together.

The art was beautiful and the animation was nicely done. My favourite part was how they showed Kousei’s despair being similar to being at the bottom of an ocean.

The Manga has 11 volumes!!

Live Action

You probably didn’t know, but there was a live action in 2016. I was so excited about it but when I watched it..I was a little disappointed. Takeshi, Emi and Nagi weren’t in the movie. In my opinion, read the Manga and watch the anime.

 Warning!!! BRING TISSUE BOXES BECAUSE THIS ANIME WILL MAKE YOU CRY!

Overall everything, Your Lie in April is one of the most beautiful and gorgeous anime’s I have ever watched. The opening was catchy, the scenery was amazing, and the drama is in there.

MIRACULOUS VOICE ACTING

First of all, this took me 3 hours to pull together, and second of all you’re welcome.

This is a masterlist of all major roles (besides Miraculous Ladybug) the voice actors of our favourite characters play.

Before I begin, a few notes:

Before I get into the individual roles of the Miraculous VAs, I made a list of many other shows/franchises in which they act together. It’s a surprisingly long list, so the VAs of our favourite characters (Marinette, Adrien, Alya, etc.) must know each other quite well, which explains their excellent chemistry.

If you want (read: need) some quality LadyNoir flirting, watch the final episodes of Sword Art Online English Dub (the scenes between Kirito and Alicia Rue). If you close your eyes and just listen, it’s basically the LadyNoir flirting we all deserve. You’re welcome.

If you’ve always wanted to beat the crap out of Hawk Moth, well, you’re in luck! You can! (Kind of). His VA plays a few video game characters who are killable, most noteably Emperor Titus Mede II and Nazeem from Skyrim. The Emperor is assassinated by the player (you!) at the end of the Dark Brotherhood questline, and Nazeem can be legally killed during the Siege of Whitrerun during the Civil War (Stormcloaks) questline. Again, you are welcome.

How’s it going, guys?

It’s been a crazy rollercoaster the past couple of weeks. And I will attempt to elaborate. I forgot to mention this during the update, but I had a delivery at Hy Vee to the third floor of an apartment building. Well, this building didn’t have an elevator, so I had to carry all the cases of soda up the stairs. Which you wouldn’t think would be so bad, but I was carrying like 60 lbs of soda in a tote up the stairs. And as I set the first tote down in front of the door, I split the butt of my pants. And then I carried that same amount up the stairs 5 more times, I think. So yeah, that happened a couple weeks ago. XD In more recent news, I got a little backlogged on homework, and have pulled two late-nighters. I’ve had an assignment due every day for the last five days, at least. But I’m close to being on top of it, and I haven’t been ridiculously stressed in a while. But yeah, the Linear Algebra has been fun but super tedious at times. And Engineering Economics has been pretty good, but having two almost identical questions with parts (a) to (l).. yeah, that I didn’t like that much. XD

In general, I’d say all of my classes are going pretty well, some better than others. I’m not where I’d like to be, but I’m moving in the right direction. And I’m much more motivated now!

Yesterday, I finally saw my buddy Andrew. I hadn’t seen him yet this semester, but I knew he was still here. I was stressing about the Advanced Controls homework (we actually have homework in an Uncle Paco class!), and that whole day had been pretty stressful. I played a modded version Super Smash Bros Melee that Andrew has on his emulator, and we used the camera to zoom out and inspect the maps and assets. It was pretty cool. And we also played a bit as well. After that, I tried to translate a line from a cut-scene in the Japanese Breath of the Wild. Andrew wanted to know if it was the same as the English, and it basically was (no hidden message). And I thought the voice of Zelda sounded like Yuu Shimamura, and I was right! They brought her back after she voiced Zelda in Skyward Sword. And the last thing.. I’m not sure if any of you saw this coming. I’m unofficially going out with someone, and she’s so supportive and has been a huge help this past week. I’m really happy. We talk every day, and it’s really nice. I definitely wasn’t looking for a relationship since I figured I’d be leaving and going to grad school soon, but this was such a wild turn of events and I’m still processing it. For now, I’ll just refer to her as Kanojo (I know it’s not great, but I’m NOT used to this XD). She is just great. (And I realize that there’s more possibilities after graduating that I need to investigate. I might move to Mankato and work full time at Software for Hire. I’m thinking much more about the future now that I’m almost there. Anything can happen.)

Alright, time for the post. (update backlog is why I should post every week, gomen. XD) Tokimeki LOOP ni notte by Chimame-tai is a song from Gochuumon wa Usagi desu ka??, the second season of Gochuumon wa Usagi desu ka? (GochiUsa).

While I was working on my Advanced Controls homework, I listened to my liked tracks on SoundCloud on random. And eventually it ventured into new territory. After I got home after hanging out with Andrew, I finished the homework, which took a while. And while I continued working on it, I listened to more songs on SoundCloud that popped up in the queue (every so often I had to skip a couple songs, because I already have them in my likes. XD). Well, about 10:58 pm last night, this song starts playing. And I was intrigued, and then it hit the “Isshou ni”, and I was like “this is amazing!”. And then I rewound the song to the beginning mentally prepared for the “Isshou ni”, and then I listened to the whole song. I noticed that it was from GochiUsa, and I was just so happy. And as I’m listening, I see on Discord that Kanojo just woke up, so I start chatting with her. And I immediately show her this song, and it helped start her day a little better. She usually wakes up for work after I go to sleep. Anyway, it was such a special moment. I was so happy! ^^

 (And by the time I upload this, she might be awake. XD)

 And as I’m listening to this song, I’m wondering “Is all of the music from GochiUsa amazing!?”.

 I finished the homework at 11:59pm, and then I posted this on Twitter.

Tokimeki LOOP ni notte is an insert song on the Tokimeki Poporon ED single. [Fun fact] Tokimeki Poporon (specifically the ending) is what got me introduced to GochiUsa in the first place. Linda: Woo, that was so much fun! Ha ha, Linda.

 I’m gonna define “tokimeki”, since it’s the beginning of the titles of all the songs on this single. ときめき (tokimeki) - throbbing (heart throbbing)

 So, the song roughly translates to “ride the heart throbbing LOOP”.

 Alright, now let’s talk about the song.

 It starts off sounding so calm, and has kind of an ambient feel. It sounds like bubble are popping near a stream. And then it goes in a completely different direction, but it’s still very calm. I think it still wouldn’t feel calm with a different instrumentation. It’s a weird mixture of acoustic and electric sounds, but it blends so well. I really like the synth strings in the background. The sharpness of the instrumentation has been dulled. And especially with the blend of Chimame-Tai’s voices and the harmonies, it’s just so full of energy, but also easy to listen. It’s fun and relaxing.

 Now, what is Chimame-Tai? That’s a good question. Linda: Did you just ask a question so you could immediately answer it, and direct the flow of this post? Yes, Linda. That was the plan. And you messed it up marvelously. XD Linda: Happy to help, Kanchou. *bounces on trampoline* Anyway, Chimame-Tai is a character group in GochiUsa. It’s actually a pretty clever name that was given to the three friends by Rize Tedeza (we talked about her in Week 122 (Daydream café).

 The name comes from the first character of each of their names: Chi(no), Ma(ya), Me(gumi). And -tai basically means squad.

 We’ve already talked about Chino, but I’ll do the same thing I did before. All of their names also have to do with beverages. I’ll put their names, their seiyuu, and at most two other anime they’ve been in.

 That’ll do it for this post. I would’ve posted earlier, but I forgot that the ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) grill-out was today. My little brother invited me, and we headed over and stayed for a bit. I talked to some friends of mine, had two hotdogs and a Cheeto burger (cheeseburger and Cheetos). Later, I got involved in a conversation with my little brother, Dr. Tebbe and Dr. Harvy around the garbage can (Dr. Tebbe started talking to me from the other side of the can XD). We heard some stories from Dr. Tebbe, he runs ultramarathons, and Dr. Harvy, he’s Santa (part-time Santa). XD

 Yeah, so this was already getting to be interesting. Dr. Harvy was talking about how he had been abroad creating new testing methods with other researchers. And so, I naturally asked him if there were any language barriers. We talked for a bit, and I talked about the languages I’ve learned bits of, and then mentioned how I’ve been teaching myself Japanese. And I told him I can also sing, so he asked me to demonstrate. (was NOT expecting that) I sang We Are! By Hiroshi Kitadani in a lower key, and he said that I had very good vibrato. He asked if I was in Choir in school, and I told him that I was in Band. He asked how I’d gotten that good, and it’s honestly just from practice and help from my friends. I’ve come so far since Hikaru Nara. I was so uncomfortable recording back then (still not the best). Anyway, it was a fun!
