Killed The Cowboy

The crew wanted to know about Tyler rodeo days and this was one of his favorite stories to tell from those days

Everybody wanna know where did all the cowboys go?

Musta been the whiskey, maybe it was all the Marlboros

But it ain't none of that, that laid 'em all low

It was the bar, and she walked in boots, jeans, and a t-shirt. Her hair was curled, and Tyler saw her walk in to the bar, he was nursing whiskey, he had in front him of him. Tyler couldn’t take his eyes off of her, he watched her lean against bar before there eyes met

It was that midnight stare

Look in her eyes like a knife to the heart

She walked over to him and sat down “So what a cowboy like doing here?” She questioned him “Deciding what to do next.” He said looking at her “What’s that?” She asked resting against her hand “Can’t bull ride anymore, I’m think college.” He shrugged, “What happened?” She questioned him “Got my head stomped a few to many times.” He laughed, “I think college is a great idea.” She smiled at him, they sat and talked about stuff, they left the bar and went to Tyler’s truck he pushed her up against it and they started kissing

It was that poison kiss

Cherry red lips, oh my God, leaning up against the bar

And I know it wasn't the smoke, it wasn't the drink

And I've got the proof

“Let’s get out of here.” She whispered in his ear, they got into Tyler’s and he drove. Until they got to little house, they walked and we’re back on each other again, they moved towards Tyler’s bedroom kissing and clothes getting taken off, as they went down the hall. Tyler and her both fought for the top until she was on top riding him

Mm, the way she does it wasn't just another rodeo

Lipstick kiss on the mirror, that was all she wrote

Yeah, it's supposed to be me riding away

But I'm dying in a bed that she made

The next morning when Tyler woke up she was gone. He was in a mess of sheets, he walked into the his bathroom and saw a lipstick kiss, he smiled at it and thought back to the night before, he thought the guy was supposed to ride away, or at least that’s what he thought cowboys were supposed to do, he didn’t think the girl would ride away. That’s what killed the Cowboy in him kinda, it’s why he went to college, got a degree in meteorology, and then he found out who her parents are years later…

Well, she's off in the sunset, she's out on the run

Bet she's halfway to Jackson by now

And I'm heartbroke to hell and I'm drowning the well

While I'm telling the bartender how

Tyler finished his story leaving out the intimate details of that night “So that why you went to college?” Kate questioned “Did you ever meet her again?” Javi questioned “Nope, have no idea where she is.” Tyler said “So that’s what killed the cowboy?” Dani questioned him “Yep, it wasn’t the smoke or the drink.” He said laughing “It was girl like her.”

I LOVE your art!! especially the very specific ways to depict intimacy. It feels very real, it's so so tender but there is often that sheer layer of tension that makes me want to consume as much as your art as possible. I hope I'm not bothering ypu, but what's the porch of your two characters? I love them, I love their dynamic.

You probably mean my current main characters, Vasco (the golden floppy-eared dog) and Machete (the pointy white dog). They're a couple living in the late 16th century Italy, at the very end of the Renaissance era. Vasco comes from a wealthy noble background and has a career in politics. Machete is a catholic cardinal, and as a secretary of state he oversees Vatican's foreign politics. Due to their surroundings they have to keep their relationship strictly secret.

Vasco originates in and lives in Florence. Machete is originally from Sicily and lives in Rome. They first met in their late teens/early adulthood when they were both studying in Venice. They were best friends before their feelings deepened, but eventually they had to separate. Machete graduated and was ordained a priest as intended. Vasco dropped out and returned home, where his family pressured him into wedlock. He ended up in a lavender marriage with a lesbian noblewoman named Ludovica (the red and white spaniel), she also has her own partner (still unnamed). Vasco and Ludovica are close friends, they get along well and cover each others' backs, but their union is purely platonic.

Machete and Vasco reunited in their early thirties by random chance, largely because they both work in foreign relations, and quickly resumed where they left off. They don't live together and can only see each other intermittently. Usually it's Vasco who visits Machete in Rome under the guise of working as a Florentine ambassador, but sometimes Machete manages to find an excuse to travel to see Vasco as well. They stay together for over a decade, meeting in secret and maintaining regular correspondence when their duties keep them apart (and quietly come to regard each other as their spouse), until Machete gets assassinated in his early/mid fourties. Vasco lives to his seventies and dies of old age.

They also have a modern au, which works as a sort of a reincarnation situation. They get to be a couple openly, get married eventually and grow old together.
