30 Years Ago, The Most Important '90s Band Released Their Most Underrated Album
Feb. 22, 2023
Tumblr media
Arguing about ‘90s music is fun. Especially if you remember the ‘90s. And, for those of a certain age, one band was often at the center of many “best of” late-night debates. Was Radiohead the greatest band of the 1990s? Are they one of the greatest bands of all time? No matter your opinion on these questions, one thing remains clear, Radiohead was a deeply important 1990s band, if not the mostimportant ‘90s band. Even if you don’t like Radiohead, search your feelings. You know that they were huge, and more importantly, that they were artistically revolutionary.
Scroll to continue with content
But Radiohead was not an overnight success. On February 22, 1993, Radiohead dropped their first full-length studio album Pablo Honey to mixed reviews. Three years prior, Radiohead had released a four-track EP called Drill, which, beyond Radiohead diehards, is mostly forgotten.
If you look at various rankings of Radiohead albums online, Pablo Honey rarely breaks the top five. In 2017, Audioxide actually ranked the album last. In 2022, Louder Than Sound also ranked Pablo Honey last. So, calling Pablo Honey an “underrated” Radiohead album may be inaccurate. Instead, the general consensus seems to be that Pablo Honey is like Season 1 of a beloved TV show that only got good in Season 3.
But is this true? Is Pablo Honey a bad album? Or, more specifically, is it really the worst Radiohead album? If you listen to the album now — and somehow manage to convince yourself that the rest of Radiohead’s discography doesn’t exist — you may think this is the greatest ‘90s alt-rock record you’ve ever heard. From “Stop Whispering,” to “Anyone Can Play Guitar,” to “Ripcord,” to the really, really great “The Thing About You,” this album is fantastic, and has emotionally charged moments that are both quiet and brilliant. Bob Berg/Archive Photos/Getty Imagesnone
Because Radiohead was pretty inexperienced with the technical studio process at this point, there’s a looseness to the production quality that feels closer to early Oasis albums or even My Bloody Valentine. In other words, the specific and meticulous Radiohead sound — which defines everything from OK Computer (1997) through KidA (2000) — just doesn’t exist on Pablo Honey. Thom Yorke wasn’t the lead singer of the epic band Radiohead in 1993. He was the singer of an English guitar band that was much, much better than most other guitar bands of that time. After Ok Computer in 1997, there’s no way to think of Radiohead as a UK guitar band. They entered another dimension and began creating music that defies various genres. But, between 1992 and 1996, Radiohead sounds like a different band than what most think of as their sonic legacy.
Had Radiohead remained the kind of band they sound like they’re trying to be on Pablo Honey, this would be their second-best album ever. In this bizzaro universe, The Bends would be their best album ever, and Radiohead would go down in rock history as a band more like The Stone Roses or Television, rather than the experimental prog-rock icons they became.
So, the only reason why Pablo Honey ranks so low on everybody's Radiohead lists is that they’re just a great band, and most of their albums are fantastic. If Steven Spielberg had only ever made Jaws (1975) and Duel (1971), we’d say that Duel is one of his best movies, which it is. And that’s what Pablo Honey is for Radiohead. With one wrinkle: We have to talk about the album’s lead single, “Creep.”
Released in September of 1992, “Creep” eventually became a huge hit for Radiohead, after not doing much with radio play at first. But, this song is easily one of the best Radiohead songs ever, period. Thom Yorke’s vocals define a beautiful melancholic detached angst that is literally pitch-perfect. Sorry. I said what I said! Meanwhile, Jonny Greenwood’s guitar has rarely sounded as cool, or dangerous.
The band infamously recorded a radio-friendly version of “Creep,” which replaced the lyrics “you’re so f*cking” special with “you’re so very special.” The debate still rages about whether or not this proves that Radiohead was a sell-out band before they even got big enough to sell out. The album version, of course, contains the f-bomb and is the superior version of the track. But it’s a great song either way. It all started here, and three decades later, this track and all the other songs on Pablo Honey are still very special, so f*cking special.

rating disney movie sequels ive seen from worst to best bc i can
12. pocahontas II: journey to a new world - caught sight of it on my tv one time, and as a child who was probably still identifying as republican at that point, i s2g it was so racist i could not finish it. ‘wait till he sees you’ gives me fuckin hives
11. tarzan II - its. tarzan as a kid. like just more young tarzan adventures and dont get me wrong its a cute idea but after about 5 minutes it gets so boring
10.  atlantis: milos return - this one gets a lil bit of a pass bc from what i heard it was supposed to be a better sequel but that got canned and they were working on a spin off series too so they just like. took a couple of the episodes they were working on and stitched it into a movie. its like a bootleg parody of the first film and my family and i despite loving the original , once again, could not even finish this one. the only memorable part for me was kida picking up a life preserver presuming its a game and milo telling her you throw it to someone whos drowning and she responds “does this not make it difficult to play the game”
9. beauty and the beast: the enchanted christmas - not that bad, tim curry plays a great villian per usual, its just kinda confusing where and how it fits into the plot of the first film. and its like. Dark? perhaps scary? for a christmas movie??? i remember my mom didnt want me to watch it every year she’d dread it bc it was such a bummer lol
8. brother bear 2 - ok nah introducing the new girl character was actually a baller move, and the concept was pretty cool. they just didnt make it fit very well and ngl the entire rest of the movie also feels disconnected from the first. had a lot of good dots but no good connection ya dig. also even though they tried in the end it was still just a ‘we have to give this character a love interest’ movie which kinda trumps the whole reason the first movie revolved around brotherhood. it aint wife bear
7. cinderella II: dreams come true - i barely remember it i am literally just giving it this high of a rating bc the romance between the baker and one of the stepsisters was so fucking wholesome. that true love lives in my head bitch xoxo
6. the rescuers down under - i never saw the original so when i saw this on tv i thought it was the original , thats how quality it was imo. i just hardly remember it and had no real urge to seek it out again for years. its eye catching but not super duper memorable
5. the little mermaid II: return to the sea - ik most of the plot is just the first movie reversed but i actually rly liked the character melody and how they inverted a lot of the concepts, its just. a lot of it includes secondhand embarrassment and some of it rly is too lazy for me to ignore. solid B- for me
4. the lion king II: simbas pride - INCREDIBLE soundtrack, nothing can beat the first but its still Baller, and the newly introduced characters are all iconic. my only qualm is how like. the concept of bigoted simba is very hard to watch which ik ik it makes some sense with the events of the first movie but jfc my man does not have a great look in this one
3. mulan II - most ppl hate this one?? but i actually rly loved the princess characters and the music as well, i watched it a LOT growing up. the whole mushu trying to break up mulan and shang thing is equal parts entertaining and frustrating. and the animation is a tad bit... off. but like am i ever gonna FORGET mulan hanging off the bridge and reaching for her man and screaming with her entire heart? or the way she kinda parallels his ‘ping, hold on’ from the first movie with ‘shang, hang on’? no
2. peter pan II: return to neverland - broe....... howd they take the racist misogynistic trainwreck that was the first film and make this. its so fucking good, it has emotional depth and speaks to kids who feel they are being forced into growing up too fast by showcasing wendys daughter going thru WORLD WAR II and making her an incredibly realistic portrayal of a traumatized kid, pairing her with the happy go lucky peter pan and the lost boys who CANT grow up, symbolizing the death of her innocence with the way that her not believing in fairies is slowly killing tinkerbell, it all just makes for a really impactful movie. and even in a kids movie sense its just so entertaining and at times really funny and/or whimsical? not to mention the ‘i’ll try’ song/scene gets me crying every single time. beautiful movie dude the only reason its 2nd is bc it is , So emotional that im not always in the MOOD to watch it bc i have to prepare a little
1. the lion king 1 1/2 - god yes i fuckign loved and still love this one so much. the music is fire the comedy still makes me laugh so hard and the whole idea is so fucking genuinely clever. god bless whoever came up with this one i had it on dvd and im p sure i watched it for years till it was so scratched up it wouldnt play anymore, 11/10

Why are people making fun of Tom's acting when he is a great actor? TDATT just came out and he was fantastic in the movie! I can't believe he's Peter P. when i see him in roles like Arvin. Why are they so mad at him when he did well? They're always shaming him for fan casts and movies
Because they’re stuck with Peter’s image. They think Tom is actually a 15 yeard old kid lmao
These are probably dudebros who hate MCU Spider-Man and think he relies too much on Tony Stark (calling him Iron Man Jr. and Iron Boy Jr.) Trust me, they NEVER shut up about this. If anyone ever asks them their opinion on Peter (and only Peter, they’re not asking them about Tony at all) they always bring up Tony. Hell, they talk about irondad more than irondad stans lmao. And because of this, they relate Peter’s youthful personality with every role Tom makes. This is why is very important to separate the character and the actor, they’re not the same thing. It comes as a shocker for them when Tom delivers a dark performance in contrast to the vigorous juvenile one with Peter Parker. They’re dumb because if they were smart they would know Tom is not Peter Parker. Peter is fictional, Tom is not.
About the fancasts and movies, stan twitter always fancast marvel actors to play iconic roles in movies. This happens a lot. They usually cast RDJ and Tom Holland for everything (they’re the most popular ones). I’m guilty of this too but I don’t want them stealing important roles from people to make a movie, instead, I want them to make an original film or one where they actually fit the characters, in a father-son setting. But other fans actually cast RDJ and Tom Holland for roles that are not meant for white folks like them. This is a problem because they’re not the only actors in the world. Some others need to shine too.
They also usually cast Zendaya as Tom’s girlfriend for every role. If Tom is being cast as Milo then stan twitter makes Zendaya; Kida, if Tom is being cast as Link, then stan twitter makes Zendaya; Zelda, if Tom is Prince Eric, then Zendaya has to be Ariel lmaooo it always goes like that and this is really bad because it kinda looks like they don’t know another black actress than her. It’s also bad because many of them only do it because they don’t want Tom kissing another actress on screen, they usually get ‘jealous’ on Zendaya’s behalf when Tom makes a movie with another actress. It’s ridiculous.
I haven’t seen his new movie but going by the reviews, he did great. Some people are even saying his performance was Oscar-worthy, which says a lot for someone his age. Don’t pay attention to twitter trolls.

List of favorite!
Female Disney characters
*Warning this is just my opinion*
Honorable mentions ( Audrey Ramirez, Grandma Fa, Meg, Belle, Jasmine, Moana, Captain Amelia, Yzma,Colette, Frozone’s Wife, Madame Medusa,Mother Gothel)
10 ~ Helga Sinclair (Atlantis)
Tumblr media
This list was SOOOO hard to make and rank everyone cause I love all of them and the honorable mentions in different ways. but Helga is a baddie I think her Audrey and Kida were one of the main reasons I watched the movie and LOVED IT it is still my top 5 favorite Disney movies to watch. She and the other women in the movie just radiate strength and elegance at the same time and her fighting skills against Rourke is just amazing and her send off at the end is iconic I literally quote her all the time, “nothing Personal”.
9 ~ Edna Mode (The incredibles)
Tumblr media
For the short amount of scenes she is in, she makes the most of every one liner she has, she is probably the most quotable Disney character.....change my mind. When I was younger I would just yell “no capes” randomly through the house jumpscaring my parents (I have no regrets), I literally wanted to be just like her and live in a mega mansion just like hers. I love how she gave zero f@cks about who you were super or not she would tell your straight up and kick your @ss if needed, she’s iconic.
8 ~ Esmeralda (The Hunchback Of Notre Dame)
Tumblr media
She is someone I would vote for to be my President, she is so beautiful, her hair, her eyes, her everything, I felt for her so much as a woman who was fighting against the injustice her people face and I can relate to her on a emotional and intellectual level even as a kid when I first watched the movie (which is also in my top 5 Disney movies). Her sass and roasts against Phoebus and Frollo always gets me hyped, and she is so creative in the way she performs and escapes situations with her goat, she is just all around great.
7 ~ Rapunzel (Tangled)
Tumblr media
She is such is ray of sunshine (no pun intended)and I really related to her chaotic energy, she was instantly going to be one of my favorite Disney princesses just from her positive and bubbly nature in true princess nature, while also being naturally quirky and awkward from being inside for years is kinda relatable in this current moment. Her singing parts I just always know the lyrics by heart idk how since I don’t watch the movie that often but that’s how good they are, Rapunzel is a very hard character to dislike.
6 ~ Violet Parr (The Incredibles)
Tumblr media
She is meme duchess, a Mighty and Powerful GOD!!! I loved her first movie and even more in the second movie, before going to see the second movie I was dealing with angst and anger everyday for no reason. So when I saw Violet having that same irration in the movie was so funny and accurate, I just love her iconic reaction to her crush who happened to be their waiter it KILLS ME. We must protect her at all costs.
5 ~ Nani (Lilo and Stitch)
Tumblr media
I respect Nani so much as a big sister mother at such a young age taking on the responsibility of caring for sister and keeping her family together, yes she makes mistakes and can be crass at time but that’s why I love her. She’s not perfect at all and is hilarious for kids and adults to relate to in every way possible. She also reminds me of my sister being 12 years older than me it can feel like she trying to control and mother me which in my head is annoying like how Lilo feels, but I know she means well. So in conclusion Nani is a true Disney Princess.
4 ~ Lilo (Lilo and Stitch)
Tumblr media
Speaking of Lilo....She is my future child, a little me. She’s weird, creative, funny, blunt, kind, and strong minded, I love her so much😍. What’s not to love her growth through the movies is ASTRONOMICAL, she starts out as awkward girl who feels like a weirdo who doesn’t fit in anywhere, and by the end is self assured, focused, ambitious, and confident and embraces her weirdly wonderful self. She is a legend I have nothing but amazing things to say about her.
3 ~ Tiana (Princess and the Frog)
Tumblr media
She is immaculate she is ambitious, she is hardworking, she is a Disney Princess, like I am amazed at how hard she works for what she wants with something we can all aspire to and I am constantly rooting for her in everything. For Disney’s first black princess I think they did very well giving her a base for what kind of person she is and felt like good representation for black girls like me and she is so beautiful and Anika plays her so well, but I just wish she wasn’t a frog for 3/4 of the movie... that kinda through it off for me. But other than that even as a frog I just love her attitude about her self and how she pushes through tough times while also having the ability to be vulnerable as well. I just love Tiana and more people need to STOP sleeping on her.
2 ~ Kida (Atlantis)
Tumblr media
A bad B!tch in every way, I had such a crush on her growing up I was just drawn to her character, her design of her hair and outfit is so amazingly creative, it makes it even better when knowing about all the heart that went into making this movie and her character. Her passion and love for her people is so strong that she is willing to let in strangers to help her, and try’s relentlessly to unclog the secrets to save her peoples future it’s so heartwarming how selfless she is (sounds like another characterfrom another studio I know...Proteus cough cough😏). Anyway she radiates inner and outer beauty through out the entire movie, she deserves all the praise, go watch the movie PLS.
DRUMROLL PEASE...
1 ~ Fa Mulan (Mulan)
Tumblr media
I mean it shouldn’t be a surprise she is my favorite, from the time I was 5 and first watched this movie I knew it was true love, Mulan has always and will forever be my favorite Disney character and princess she is the number one OG, she is graceful, selfless, brave as F@CK, resourceful, independent, awkward, courageous, confident, and a DAMN BADASS hero with the biggest kill count of Disney history she puts the villains to shame I SAID IT! AND THAT HAIRCUT SCENE AMAZING. She is so wonderful on screen an seeing her defy the odds as a woman in war fighting for her father and self discovery, while also being a caring, determined and skillful fighter who sufferd through the odds to save ALL OF CHINA was so comforting and inspirational to me growing and even now as a new adult. The songs in the movie are bops, I love Shang he is my favorite Disney man, I love mushu he’s iconic, and I love Ling, Yao, and Chin po, that scene of Mulan looking out at China as the all bow to her is chilling. I will forever proudly say I love Mulan for the rest of my days.

Top 5 Disney movies
These are my favorite ones as of now:
1. The Little Mermaid (1989). I just recently watched a few weeks ago and fell in love with the characters, music and setting again. It’s so memorable and fun to watch.
2. Beauty and the Beast (1991). This one is iconic. From the animation, to the music, to the colors, characters, ambient. Everything about it is incredible and it has aged so well despite it being nearly 30 years old! Belle was always one of my faves and she still continues to be.
3. Aladdin (1992). Well...I used to watch this one on a daily basis because it was just so amazing and entertaining, and it had action too which made it even more enjoyable to me. I still sing along with Aladdin and Jasmine whenever A Whole New World is about to start. It’s one of the best songs from the Disney music catalogue.
4. Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001). This one was criminally underrated and unappreciated when it first came out, but thankfully overtime it has earned a strong cult status and reappraisal since and people are now recognizing it for the great underrated animated movie it really is. Kida was a such an amazing and beautifully drawn character, might I add. I recommend it to anyone that hasn’t watched it. You won’t regret it.
5. Tangled (2010). This one is a great movie and I like how Rapunzel’s personality is similar to Ariel’s, yet she’s still her own person. The best part about this movie, imo, is she and Flynn’s dynamic, who both carry the entire movie. I like the fact that Flynn doesn’t fit the mold of a traditional Disney prince and is actually more like Han Solo, which explains why I like Flynn so much LOL (I think the writers admitted to taking a bit of inspiration from Han Solo actually). It’s a great movie and a part of me wishes it would get a movie sequel, but the other part is scared of what they could do with my babies Rapunzel and Flynn 😬 regardless of that, it’s one of the most memorable movies Disney has released in the last 15 years.

Tag Game: List your Top 5 Favorite Disney Animated Movies, and why you love them. (I was tagged by @imagine-you-are and @waterlily502)
Hercules – I am pretty sure baby Shye came out of the womb obsessed with Greek mythology. Of course, now I know how super inaccurate it is, but I still love it. The music is fun, Meg is an entire Mood. Is it even possible not to get excited when you hear “We are the muses…”? No, it is not.
Atlantis – the Aesthetic. The diversity of characters. The memeable, memorable quotes. Also it’s just super personal to me because my Dad and I did a cosplay of Vinny and Audrey last year at RI Comic Con and then one of my best friends and her now fiancé came as Kida and Milo (and I’m very sad we didn’t get a good picture of it because we were so busy doing con things and posing for other people’s) so it’s got a lot of associated happy memories of that.
Oliver and Company – This one is such a childhood nostalgia one. I mean I love every character, and can hear their voices in my head to this day. And the songs were very much like what I was listening to, especially driving around with my Dad in his rusty old truck so it was different than being “Disney songs.” I used to think Fagin was life goals, just living your weird little life with a bunch of dogs and an adorable little kitten. I mean obviously wee nugget Shye did not understand the whole ‘homeless’ and ‘owes money to a mob boss’ thing entirely but…minor details
Princess and the Frog – I only watched it for the first time recently, but it’s like…really beautiful and all of the music really hits hard. And the story is cute. And the side characters are just as emotionally motivating as the leads. I want to say I don’t understand how it wasn’t more popular but I feel the reason is obvious and I hate it. Because it’s such a good movie. And teaches such good lessons. And Tiana is fantastic (and honestly so is Lottie. Like I want her to get her own Disney short).
Sleeping Beauty – A classic. The romance. The Art style. The Original “What color is this?” dress. I blame the fairies for a great deal of my personality because I used to watch this one in a movie over, immediately rewind the VHS way and they were my favorites. Now I have a lot of respect for Maleficient and really, if the kingdom had followed classic Fae rules there would not have been a problem (I have not watched the Maleficient movies. I refuse.)
EDIT: I CANNOT BELIEVE I FORGOT BLACK CAULDRON! I SPENT LIKE 6 YEARS WITH GURGI AS MY ICON ON HERE! WHAT AM I DOING?!

BDRPWriMo Task #21: 10+ Characters I’d Like To See
For task #21,  I always do a list of 10+ characters I have in my head that I’m considering playing, and then a second list of 10+ I want to see but don’t have muse for myself. But! This year I actually don’t have 10 of each, I only have like 3 characters in mind to eventually pickup so I’m gonna mention those and then my list of characters I really want to see!
Characters McKala Would Like To Play
1. Lyria - FC: Jodie Whittaker
Lyria is probably going to be my labors characters, or I may do the labors twice for a total of 12 if I can get to a good place mentally irl for 12. Or I gotta start killing people off muahaha. Anyway, I have a great story for Lyria and I can’t wait to bring her here!
Tumblr media
2. Paulette [Ho/Takei/Mirzadeh] FC: Maggie Q or Levy Tran; OR Ishihara Satomi OR Tala Ashe or Sarah Shahi or Laleh Pourkarim
So! Kit and I are talking about bringing the Bimbettes from Beauty and The Beast in eventually. I’ll be oldest sister Paulette, Kit is baby sis Laurette, and we just need middle sister Claudette! I’ll likely be getting Lyria first so this will be several months out. But I wanted to mention it here. This is the Google Doc where we’re started planning -- we have a cool story so far, we’d love a third sister to join us!
We have fc picked out we like equally for the sisters to be Iranian-French, Japanese-French, or Vietnamese-French. If we don’t get a bite in a month or so, we’ll settle on ethnicity ourselves no problem, but as of now we’ve got lots of options!
3.  Kidagakash “Kida” Nedakh -- FC: Jessica Mauboy or Aaradhna
I really like the idea of Kida’s fc being indigenous, especially Australia and Oceania indigenous.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Characters Y’all Should Play - with a FC idea
Gaston and Art Framagucci (FC Suggestions: So many)
Look, this is 100% selfish but come play Franny’s 40-year-old-plus himbo big brothers! Some suggestions: Tom Ellis, Todd Grinnell, Tom Hiddleston, Tom Mison, Josh Duhamel, Richard Armitage, and John Krasinki.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tallulah Robinson (FC Suggestions: include Mary Kate Wiles, Alina Kovalenko, Kate Mara)
Join the Robinson fam ahhhh
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Olivia Da Silva (FC Suggestion: Marina Nery)
I made this skeleton woowoo! Come play an Avaloran character! A young sorceress honing her craft! Worldbuild Avalor with me, yaaaay! I put Brazilian-preferred on the skeleton for fc suggestions because the Avalor we’ve crafted in game is a bilingual society in South America with Portuguese and Spanish influence about equally. It’s not requiiired, like you can change her last name to be Spanish and not Portuguese, but!
Tumblr media
Professor Guadalupe “Lupe” Mendoza (FC Suggestions by Mckala: Gina Torres, Charo Bogarin, Jessica Alba, Velina Hsau Houston, Lana Parrilla)
COME PLAY A COOL AVALORAN WOOOO
Join me in Avalor world! Lupe Mendoza is so cooool, she’s a professor, a scholar, a genius, a really cool lady forced to flee Avalor because of the new dictatorship.
Tumblr media
Jasmine (FC Suggestions by Mckala: So Many. Including Claudia Doumit,  Njoud Al Shammari, Dalal Aldoub,  Adila Sedraïa, Sonita Alizadeh)
I’m honestly shook Jasmine’s not taken yet y’all! She’s a great character, you can go so many diff directions with her and HEL-LO worldbuilding!
Tumblr media
Li Shang (FC idea: Shawn Dou)
Y’all how do we not have all the Mulan characters yet??? But I would pay someone physical money for a Li Shang ahhhhh

Lost Empire
Atlantic City, New Jersey
Alongside music, technology and women's rights, another subject exploding in during the Twenties is the field of archaeology. Which might not be good for the Kingdom of Atlantis...
Details on the construction of Stonehenge emerge early in the decade, while Percy Fawcett, last of the great British explorers, is hellbent on finding the Lost City of Z down in Brazil.  (White) models and actresses dress up in (probably inaccurate, but admittedly boss) costumes inspired by Ancient Egypt and Mezoamerica. This skyrockets with the discovery of King Tut’s tomb in 1922. The Egypt Revival fad heavily influences the fashion and Art Deco styles of the entire era. Seeing Tut's tomb ransacked naturally gives Queen Kidagakash Nedakh reason to worry about her own hidden kingdom. Her concern is validated when, in that same year, German scientist Adolf Schulten suggests looking in Spain for the basis of the Atlantis myth.
So Kida and her husband Milo venture up to the surface to scope out the possible threat. Milo claims to have been studying his profession abroad, and introduces his fellow intellectuals to his new wife “Kitty.” Naturally, they end up in Atlantic City, New Jersey, because of course they do. Kida is surprised by how much the world has changed since she was last at the surface, and has an amount of empathy for the conservatives who miss the “old ways,” before the new “decadence” took over. However, that empathy only goes so far, with the flappers’ more enlightened views on women’s rights being more in line with Atlantis’s. Still, Kida plays the part of a prim and proper aristocrat, when she and Milo visit the classy speakeasies of the scientists and socialites showing interest in the Lost City of Atlantis. When asked if she’s “Old Money” like everyone else at the part, or if she’s one of “those crude New Money types,” Kida can honestly answer that her family has been wealthy for millennia. She leaves out the detail that it’s her nuclear family she’s talking about.
After another epic adventure, Kida and Milo ultimately get Dr. Schulten to agree that Atlantis is better left a legend for now, and he convinces the scientific community that Plato based the city off of the ancient harbor city of Tartessos. Sadly, they are not as successful convincing Percy Fawcett to let well enough alone, and the renowned explorer ends up vanishing three years later in 1925, along with his oldest son and the rest of their party, while seeking the Lost City of Z down in the jungles of Brazil. Kida sadly compares the recklessness of the Roaring Twenties to the prosperous times of her own kingdom, just before it sank. She tells Milo, Audrey and the others that while she's enjoying the speakeasies and giggle-juice, she can't help but be reminded of another glorious empire that tanked overnight.
AN: Because the ladies of “Atlantis” have less iconic and detailed outfits in canon, I used this as an opportunity to do some dress stiles I probably wouldn’t with some of the other animated heroines. I would up loving how both came out, and minimal touch-ups were required for this revamp of the series. More Prohibition Princesses

Top Five Mamoru Miyano Roles
To celebrate Mamo’s 35th birthday, I’m going to be counting down my favourite roles from him!
He is such a legendary voice actor with a great and recognizable voice. He possesses great range and has many dynamic and complex characters under his role list. I haven’t watched a good number of them (and I can’t remember a couple of them), and with that anime site I use still being down, I guess I’m going to have to rely on other sources. But besides that, I wish Mamo a great birthday full of wonderful things. I think he’s married and has a kid, so I hope he gets to spend it with them! Now, let’s celebrate some of my favourite roles that he’s done.
Tumblr media
Honourable Mentions (I haven’t seen):
Rin Matsuoka
Tumblr media
(I won’t even comment what popped up when I searched for his gif)
Maybe I’m the only person who hasn’t seen Free yet, but I heard he’s good in this, so I might as well give this a shout-out.
Chrollo Lucifer
Tumblr media
I really want to watch Hunter x Hunter, but I have commitment issues. That makes me sound like the manga when I say it like that. Hunter x Hunter? More like Hiatus x Hiatus. All the fans still stand by the series though, and with such an outstanding cast, how would you not?
Light Yagami
Tumblr media
(this is a good gif)
I haven’t watched Death Notes. I’ve seen scenes, but that’s about it. It seems like a strong performance.
Ling Yao
Tumblr media
This one I have watched, but it’s been such a long time since I watched Fullmetal Alchemist (Brotherhood). I watched it subbed. I know the dub is great, but I can’t just abandon my loyalty to always watching sub. This role gave me a lot of laughs, so I wanted to mention it even if I don’t remember it well.
TOP FIVE
5. Okabe Rintarou
Tumblr media
I’m kinda cheating because I’ve only seen a couple episodes of Steins;Gate, but that’s why I put him at number five despite being a really strong role. He’s a mad scientist after all.
4. Tsukiyama Shuu
Tumblr media
(Let’s just pretend that this gif makes sense because *anime logic*)
Here’s an over-the-top role. Despite his creepiness as a character that is weirdly common these days, this character and his voice stuck with me. His charisma mixed with his overall creepy aura definitely made for quite a character.
3. Masaomi Kida
Tumblr media
I watched two seasons of Durarara. It wasn’t that bad, but Kida was definitely a character I didn’t see coming in terms of development. Not to spoil things, but he gets a few episodes that really brings him into a new light and show his range in character. The cast of Durarara is really strong, and Kida is no exception.
2. Tamaki Suou
Tumblr media
Here’s one of Mamo’s more iconic roles. I watched Ouran High School Host Club subbed unlike 99% of people. Tamaki is the king of flattery and definitely has quite a bit of over-the-top moments. He might not be the brightest bulb in the host club, but he fills his needed trope and more.
1. Dazai Osamu
Tumblr media
(How do anime characters handle pain so easily?)
Okay, but this one was decided before I even came up with the other entries. Really, this was just supposed to be a Dazai appreciation thing. Honestly, Dazai is one of the most hyped characters in Bungou Stray Dogs. He has such a dubious past filled with bad deeds and shadiness. A lot of his characters comes with the animation and faces, of course, but a huge part of him for me is his voice. When he’s gushing about suicide, when he’s taunting Kunikida, when he’s planning and scheming and just being himself, Mamo pulls this role off perfectly. He has the range for it. From getting high on shrooms to drowning himself to somehow outsmarting almost every other character in that universe, he’s really fun to watch even if he’s a little too crazy at times. Thanks, Mamo for making Dazai Dazai.

Note
So on Disney+, I was doing a search for the Nightmare before Christmas, right. I typed in 'nig' and it came up. But fifth result was Black Panther. What does Black Panther have to do with nig?
In Which V’s 60th and 109th Regeneration Answer:
because i don’t have rihanna, nicki, anika, beyonce, etc. rp icons because no one makes them when they are in film roles when they show their face
Tumblr media
“The human social construct of racism due the direct result of horrible conclusions to solve personal problems that could have just been solved by observation and then doing the same thing themselves on their own land, creating their own version of those tools needed to achieve the same goal instead of resorting to creative and physical laziness while profiting off the work of others. The end result being the very thing those that had benefited from this  strategy being upset that the very thing they wished to achieve in the future is already achieved by a fictional hidden city full of people.”
Tumblr media
“People who had gotten the worse end of that well-known historical treatment that , within that film’s universe, were able to do all of this and have a stable economic structure decades in advance with the very material that had physically poisoned a ‘mutant’ just a couple of films prior, becoming way more successful that makes the rest of the world’s history look infinitely worse off that make the audience wonder that within that film’s universe, humanity could have reached the goals of their dreams if a key event had never occurred but, robbed themselves of it because of said key event that still takes part of the human construct of racism that the only way some people want to make themselves feel ‘better’ is by searching a specific movie with a specific cast to mess up an already-shit algorithm just for it to be one of the top five results of yet another platform to pay for. A platform who comes from a company that also fed into that human social construct in the past through highly insulting caricatures in animation and -possibly- live action in the past against that specific group of humans.”
Tumblr media
“Summary: Disney’s had always racist, great and memorable soundtracks, even more memorable voice and life action actors, beautiful visuals in animation and design but, plots and how they market themselves? Weak.”
“Black Panther - anything set in Wakanda - is the only film that calls Disney out on their negligent behavior on actual diversity in their films - animation and live action alike and was actually still good after 40 rewatches. Why? Because Nakia is technically a Disney princess if T’Challa hadn’t married her yet but, she won’t be part of the Disney Princess line up in merchandising just like Pocahontas and Kida from Atlantis: The Lost Empire. Especially, Kida.”
Tumblr media
“What were the other four, or three if number one is Nightmare Before Christmas?”
Tumblr media
“Yeah, even though they are total shit, I like them. I wish they get over their sickness soon and movies with a plot like Black Panther seemed to be the cure of their illness of turning any person of color into some kind of animal or other entity. Since, you know, he isn’t even a physical animal. That’s just his superhero name, like Wolverine.”
