The other reason I'm generally annoyed with the "Abolish X" crowd who actually DO mean "abolish X" and not a watered-down version is that ime they very rarely have fully thought out the implications of what they're demanding and then get angry when other people ask about it.
"Family abolition means completely removing legal ties for family units and allowing all children the choice of where they live" okay. So if I see a three-year-old throwing a fit because she doesn't want to leave the park, and I go over and tell her if she comes home with me she can stay as long as she likes and then we'll get McDonald's on the way home, that three-year-old should have the ability to make that decision? The parent or guardian has no legal recourse to stop me from taking her? Cause if the answer's no, that's not abolition, that's reform baby!
"I'm done talking about what we'll do with rapists and murderers after we abolish prisons, it's all anybody ever wants to talk about!" Well yeah man! 98% of people just interpreted your words as "we're going to let murderers roam around killing people at will"! You need to explain very clearly what plans you have that will stop them that aren't incarceration or you're not going to make any headway! And if your answer involves any form of "well of course SOME people can't be allowed total freedom" - that's not abolition, that's reform baby!
I'm not even gonna touch the number of people who think we should abolish the police and replace them with what are essentially roaming squads of vigilantes dispensing "community justice", whatever the fuck that means.
Like these aren't "gotcha" questions, they're legitimate problems you're going to have to contend with. And if you wave away all these questions with "you're just making up ridiculous scenarios" and "we'll think of something to fix that once we destroy the current system", then yeah actually, I DO think you care more about sounding radical than about making any kind of change.
#exactly#coming up with a plan after the fact rarely if ever results in a good plan#and means people get hurt in the meantime#it's why I'm a reformist not for abolishment in 99% of things

And now they announced Octavio is coming back for the season premiere...I don't want to be right but I want the record marked if I am...
I've been binging a lot of SVU to catch up and I noticed something:
Squad member leaves due to injury which makes them realize they have personal things going on that makes SVU not the place for them
Replacement squadmember is handpicked by the new chief and the rest of the squad is suspicious of his intentions/think he is a spy...
Because the new chief is part of the Old Boys Network so he doesn't get along with Benson or agree with her methods, and is far more concerned with Optics than doing what's best for the victims.
And over the course of the season we see the chief start to come around to Benson's way of thinking, though not without some hesitiation and still kind of a pain in the ass
And the squad really warms up to their new teammate and takes him under their wing because he is way out of his depth in SVU cases and gets too personally invested
Am I talking about Season 17 and Chief/Mike Dodds or Season 23 and Chief McGrath/Joe Velasco?

By the skin of our teeth, and smart class feature choices by our celestial warlock (and my half-orc relentless endurance) we won the final fight against Graz'zt, the last demon prince standing after the battle royale.
Arusha sadly did not get the final blow this time, but she accepts it because the bard's Prismatic Spray looked so fuckin cool.
And in her mind, since she's still the one responsible for most deaths (3/4 that we directly killed) so she's still going to add Prince-Slayer to the end of her name if she gets her wish to become a pirate queen. But first, we got bored and decided to try our hand at the Tomb of Horrors.

Not my town, but Willimantic CT, where I frequently visited my great grandmother growing up, has the Frog Bridge. (Yes, they are perched upon giant spools of thread. It used to be a textile town.)
Your hometown has “culture,” but does it have a 13 foot, bright orange, bug-eyed t-rex with weirdly human teeth
#weird art and architecture#town quirks#there was another nearby town that had random brightly colored and weirdly painted cows all over the place but I can't find pictures of the#I haven't been to the Frog Bridge in a long time#nor have I paid attention when passing through to see whether or not the cows are still around

For all the less popular writers. For the writers who don't get much attention. For the writers who have a very small following, or no following. For the writers who don't get a lot of notes or comments.
You are valid. You are brilliant. You are creating something unique and magical and all yours. No one would create it better. You are creating! You're writing! That is a magic all its own, and all yours.
You are valued, and valuable, and good enough as you are.
#100%#important words#just because you're not 'popular' doesn't mean you're not worth reading#and I guarantee there are people out there that love you#please do not give up or change who you are

Me: *Removes my cat from my lap to do something else.*
My cat: Father is...evil? Father is unyielding? Father is incapable of love? I am running away. I am packing my little rucksack and going out to explore the world as a lone vagabond. I can no longer thrive in this household.

I have one of these in particular that drives me crazy some days because I can remember pieces, but not enough/with sufficient clarity to find it:
-read it in maybe 4th grade English class but I was "an advanced reader" so it might have been more middle school level
-big family - my foggy memory says either 13 or 16 siblings but I could be totally making that up - at least one set of twins but everyone else was a year apart
-each chapter is from the perspective of/about one of the siblings
-they move to a new house and most of the book is about the move and then half way through they find a secret room behind a linen cabinet (I SPECIFICALLY remember the linen cabinet)
-there's maybe something a journal or photo album from the family that owned the house before but that part might be getting crossed with another book
R.I.P. to all the books I read in middle and high school that I can't remember their names or plot but know that I thoroughly enjoyed them 😩
#I think about this book more often than I should for how little I remember it#I don't even want to re-read it. just know what it is/that it's real#books#reading#forgotten books#vague memories of childhood
