Traveling to the Kennesaw/Atlanta area for a wedding, and my partner, and we found an absolute gem of a place half a mile from our hotel! I had never had Malaysian food before so this was a really great experience.
My dish, the Penang Asam Laksa, was different than anything I’d tried before, and I wish the menu had a full description of everything that was in the dish. It was a powerful, fishy combination of ingredients that a inexperienced American palate like mine was not used to.
That said, coming from the Gulf Coast, the strong fish taste and smell appealed to me and the nostalgia of childhood. When we lived in Louisiana, there was this one particular seafood place we went to. Built in an old house, it definitely had a sense of history to it. Once, and this is where the memory connection comes in, they gave me tour of the rooms beyond the dining areas. There was one, must have been an old dinning room, and for some reason it had such a strong fishy smell.
That’s what this dish brought me. A spicy and tangy combination of childhood and newness.
10/10 will def go here again whenever we am next in Kennesaw, GA.
Here’s the restaurant’s website!
