April 22, 2024 - Student protesters for Palestine defend their occupation of the Siemens hall building at Cal Poly Humboldt from riot police sent in by university administrators.
According to the @humboldtforpalestine Instagram account, which posted a statement at around 7 p.m., protesters are demanding that the university “disclose all holdings and collaborations with the zionist entity,” an academic boycott of Israeli universities, proactive pardons for the protesters and, finally, an immediate ceasefire and end to the occupation of Palestine. As the police escalate violence, beat and attack students and professors, and conduct mass arrests, student protesters should know their rights.
Here is the link to the National Lawyer's Guild booklet for protesters.
If you plan on going out to support the protests, please take some time to read through this and know your rights.

Buildings are easier to defend than outdoor camps AND they can be more disruptive. For anyone ready to escalate for Gaza, check out this re-issue of a text that has been used in previous movements.

I wonder how many of the Universities that are disenrolling students for protesting (cutting their benefits, destroying their belongings, making them homeless, etc) made statements in october about how saddened they are by the terrorist attack and how they value education and youth
I would bet that none of them have once talked about israel bombing universities and schools in gaza- including the students inside

Scenes from Cal Poly Humboldt
This is one university protest I haven't seen any discussion of over here yet, but since Monday students at Cal Poly Humboldt have been occupying Siemens Hall (renamed Intifada Hall) on campus, have redecorated the president's office as seen above, and are demanding that the school's leadership deescalate the situation by removing the police presence, divest from all interests connected to Israel, and publicly call for a ceasefire in Gaza. The school has announced that the campus will be closed for the remainder of the semester in response to the demonstration, and is encouraging the protesting students to surrender. As of making this post the cops have not yet raided the building.

cal poly humboldt is a shitshow right now, admin is handling the israel protests SO badly
people i know who haven't done anything except be present outside the occupied building for short amounts of time that have been put under "interim suspension" and have full charges being alleged against them, including charges of vandalism, trespassing, destruction of property, and endangering people on campus
im fairly certain the suspensions are being sent out to scare people and lessen the numbers of people outside around the occupied building, but fuck, admin does not care about the students

Today in Arcata, Ca there was a march from the town plaza up to the University campus. The campus has been baracaded for the last few days in order to stop protesters joining the students camping out on campus.
As I drove past more were joining these activists.

Julio Perdido singing at the Cal Poly Humboldt protest against the genocide in Palestine.
April 23, 2024
Something powerful is happening on the Humboldt campus. The only danger to students came from the cops the university sent in to beat up protestors the first night, despite what the administration claims. The call to law enforcement included pulling a helicopter away from an active search and rescue mission for a youth missing in the river in Hoopa. And how much does it cost us to have every cop north of Garberville on overtime all night? They were the only ones committing violence and making students unsafe. Folks held strong and made things safe again by forcing them off campus and making it clear they would not back down from their peaceful resistance. Yesterday was full of lots of art and music and food and dancing and caring for each other. The university has the power to end this at any point by engaging in open negotiations about very reasonable demands for divestment and boycott of all Israeli and Zionist entities complicit in this genocide. By refusing to do so they are the ones creating what they have deemed an unsafe environment that puts students at risk, which again is untrue except in the case of them sicing violent goons on the protestors again. Thank you to the students who made this happen and the community for joining in solidarity and supporting a sustained movement. The kids are alright.
Free Palestine. Dismantle the state. Land back.
