Kelly Severide sighed heavily as he looked outside the firehouse to see the snow falling heavily. It was always nice to see the snow cover the grounds, but as an emergency service worker, Kelly hated it. The roads always became slippy, regardless at how often they were cleared, which meant that multiple accidents were bound to happen. Severide had lost count at how many 51 had been called to today, but it was far from his mind with all the changes about to happen.

Kelly and Y/n were due to become parents in the next few weeks. The couple had hoped the snow would be gone before y/n’s due date, but it seemed unlikely the closer they got to the date. Kelly had told his wife to be careful with the change of weather, but y/n was always an anxious person when home alone, and with her leaving work to spend time relaxing before the baby, she often found herself walking to the firehouse to make dinner for the crew. Kelly would always scold her for walking to the house in the freezing temperatures, but y/n made the point of it being good for dilation.

Kelly smiled when he seen the familiar figure waddling up the driveway, a shopping bag in one hand. Seeing y/n’s slow steps, Kelly threw on his coat before walking down the driveway to meet her. Y/n smiled up at him as he took the bag from her, and rolled her eyes as Severide wrapped one arm around her waist, the other taking her hand along with the bags to help her walk.

“Kelly I’m fine walking on my own.” Y/n whined, shaking her head at her husbands antics. “I don’t want you to slip. It can harm the baby.” Kelly stated, shaking off her concerns as they made it inside the building. “I think the baby will be just fine with your genes.” Y/n remarked, allowing Kelly to take her coat and scarf, opting to keep on her hat. “Hi.” She smiled, pecking Kelly on the lips.

Kelly smiled as he moved to drape their coats over his chair before taking the bag once again as his wife mae her way into the canteen. Y/n smiled as she heard the firemen cheer when they seen her, Kelly just laughing as he moved to place the bag on the table.

“Hey, our chef is here.” Hermann stated, pointing at the very pregnant woman in front of them. “What we have today?” Mouch asked, looking over the couch to see her. “I was thinking some lamb stew, something easy.” Y/n shrugged, accepting the hug Stella gave her. “You didn’t have to come, we could of made something ourselves.” Stella scolded the woman, placing a hand on y/n’s very swollen stomach. “I like doing it. Nothing else to be doing with Kelly hiding all the babies stuff that needs to be built.” Y/n spared a glare to Kelly who put his hands up in surrender. “Forgive me for not wanting you straining yourself.” Kelly stated. “We haven’t even got the babies crib built yet.” Y/n remarked, causing everyone to chuckle.

Silence filled the room as the bell was heard, the woman’s voice coming through with the information needed. Y/n laughed lightly as the crew stepped into action, Kelly kissing the side of her head as he rushed by her. Tapping him on the arm, y/n watched the fire trucks drove off before moving to start prepping the food.

The house was smelling of fresh cooking when Kelly returned from their newest case. Rubbing his hand over his face he followed the rest of the firefighters into the canteen where they could see y/n finishing up sorting the plates and basket of rolls.  Smiling slightly at her, he moved towards her to pull her into a hug, only for her to move away from him on the last second.

“Clean up first.” Y/n scrunched her nose as he looked at his sooty face. “Not even a hug.” Kelly mocked hurt. “No way are you touching me while your all dirt.” Y/n stated, causing Kelly to sigh jokingly. “Come on, dinners ready.”

Chuckling lightly Kelly moved away from his wife and quickly hit the showers. It wasn’t long before he returned, and y/n happily gave him a hug when he approached her. Rubbing his hand on her bump he gave her a quick kiss before moving to grab two plates. Following y/n to an empty chair, he dug into his food, very little conversation happening as each firefighter dug in.

The wind could be heard outside as y/n and Kelly made their way out to the front, Kelly helping y/n put on her coat before turning to grab his own. As he turned he seen y/n grimace slightly, hand her stomach, and he frowned as he walked towards her.

“You alright?” He asked, placing a hand on her back. “Yeah just baby kicking like crazy lately” Y/n sighed, rubbing her stomach lightly. “Do you want to sit down for a minute? I’ll just tell Boden I’m walking you home.” “No Kelly, I’m fine. Just give me a minute to catch my breath and then I can..” Kelly cut him off only to stop mid conversation. “You been getting these often?” Kelly asked, concerned for her and the babies wellbeing. “This morning but than they went away. I’m sure they’ll settle in a minute.” Y/n’s voiced pitched higher as she felt another strong kick, followed by the feeling of water on her legs. “I think your waters just broke.” Kelly spoke, panicking slightly at the puddle on the ground. “No, no, I’m sure it’s false labour.” Y/n spoke, trying to convince herself. “Waters don’t break at false labour babe.” Kelly stated, grabbing y/n’s arm to help her sit down. “We’re not ready, we haven’t even a crib for them.” Y/n stated, cringing as she felt another contraction. “Hey, hey, breath, it’s okay. We’ll get through this okay. Stella.” Kelly called out, crouching down to be at y/n’s eye level.

Hearing Kelly shout her first name, Kidd ran out, stopping as she seen Kelly crouching down in front of y/n. Y/n had her head on Kelly’s chest, trying to ignore the waves of pain. They weren’t that close at the minute, so Kelly knew they had time, but he wanted to get to the hospital before the bad night fall of snow began.

“We need to get y/n to the hospital.” Kelly stated, and Kidd nodded.

Kelly had stayed by y/n’s side throughout the journey to the hospital. Brett and Kidd both went with them with the weather conditions unknown. Every now and then they heard y/n cry out in pain, but Kelly kept holding her hands, allowing her to squeeze them as hard as she wanted. On arrival, y/n was brought straight to the maternity ward, where Maggie was waiting. Having been y/n’s nurse throughout the pregnancy, she wanted to be there to help y/n when needed.

The birth wasn’t quick, but it was smooth sailing, and Kelly felt like he had little time to think before Maggie shouted that they could see the head. When Kelly let go of y/n’s hand to grab himself a drink, y/n had taken to hitting his arm multiple times, causing him to give up and turn his full attention to her. His hand was numb by the end but he didn’t care so long as mother and baby were okay.

“It’s a healthy baby boy. Congratulations.” Maggie announced as cries were heard, and y/n struggled to catch her breath as she laughed lightly. “You did it y/n.” Kelly smiled down at her, tears evident in his eyes. “A baby boy.” Y/n cried, watching as the baby was wrapped in a blanket. “Would dad like  to do the honours?” Maggie asked, offering the surgical scissors to Kelly. “Where do I?” “Just here where the clamp is.” Maggie coaxed his hand to the umbilical cord, helping him cut it.

Kelly smiled as he caught his first look at his son before grinning at y/n. Leaning down to kiss y/n’s head he moved her hair back from her forehead before the baby was hand to him. Y/n watched tiredly as the nurses worked to tidy her up.

“You just need two stitches.” Maggie noted, allowing the doctor in. “He’s perfect.” Kelly stated, bringing the baby over to his mother. “I never thought I could love any more than I do now.” Y/n spoke as Kelly placed the babe in her arms. “What are we calling him?” Maggie asked, moving to admire the baby. “Nicholous, Nickolous Kel Severide.” Y/n noted, Kelly nodded in agreement. “Perfect, just like his mother.” Kelly nodded, kissing y/n’s head as she looked down at the baby in her arms.

Kelly Severide- Relief

Since finding out I was pregnant I've been benched. Normally I would be fighting fires with Matt as my lieutenant, but Boden has put me on paperwork duty and doing everyone's payroll. Which is kinda boring if I'm honest. I'm now 8 months pregnant and my back hurts so bad most of the time, but I'm determined to work right up until the birth. Although right now I'm rethinking that idea.

Sighing I stretch my arms over my head needing a break from sitting down. I get up and waddle to the kitchen where I find everyone

"Does anyone know if we have any pickles and chocolate?" this has been my pregnancy craving since I basically got pregnant

“I think that is a wonderful idea. You two deserve some time off.” Zoey said and you smiled.

“Thank you, Z. Also you both will be staying with Grandma and Grandpa while we are gone. I know you both love them.” Kelly said and they both nodded. Your parents were extremely helpful during your pregnancy and when the twins were born. You had a great relationship with them and they loved Kelly and Kelly loved them. 

“Ok that makes it better.” Chase said and everyone chuckled. Kelly reached over and ruffled his hair which he groaned playfully and tried to get away. The rest of breakfast was spent laughing and eating until it was time for the kids to start getting ready for school and you finished putting lunches in lunch boxes. “What time do you go in?” You asked

“I’m thinking about the week of the 15th.” You said and she nodded and then smiled. 

“Done. Also thank you for coming to me two weeks in advance.” She said and you smiled.

“Not a problem.” You said and then you were heading out of her office and started your long day of working but smiled at the thought of your time off with your husband.

At the station Kelly had been tied up with calls all day until it was time for the kids to arrive at the station so he hadn’t been able to ask until now. He had just taken his gear off when Chief Wallace Boden walked by. “Hey, Chief! I have a question for you.” He said and Boden stopped and turned to him.

“Y/N and I’s wedding anniversary is coming up and we were planning on going to the cabin to spend some time together. I wanted to take off the week of the 15th for it.” He said and Boden smiled.

“Of course you can. I’ll go and schedule you off.” Boden said and Kelly smiled.

“Thank you so much.” He said and Boden patted him on the shoulder and then he was off. Kelly was about to go and do something when Chase and Zoey’s voice caught his attention.

“Dad!” They said at the same time and he turned and smiled as they ran up to him.

“Hey you two.” He said and he hugged them both.

“I will never get used to you having kids.” Stella Kidd said and everyone that was in the garage nodded and agreed.

“Get used to it.” He said “We’re planning for a third one.” He added.

“What?” Chase said 

“You and mom are trying for another kid?” Zoey asked 

“We are. Do you not want that?” He asked

“Good. Now go and do your homework before your mom gets here.” He said and ushered them to the kitchen.

“So, you and the wife want more kids?” Matt Casey said coming over to him and Stella.

“We do. We loved raising the twins into the kids they are today and we’re ready for the baby phase again. Also, the kids would be pretty far enough apart in age. We’re just ready.” Kelly answered him and they all smiled. 

“You’re a great dad.” Matt said

“Thank you.” Kelly said and then they got busy with doing things around the firehouse until you came into it around 6 PM and spotted your husband right away.

“Sorry, I had a project that I needed to finish up.” You said as you got to him and kissed him.

“Nonsense. You have to do what you need. The kids finished their homework up and we fed them. There is plenty if you want something.” He said

“They know we are trying for another kid.” Kelly said as you took your first bite.

“Oh?” You asked and he nodded.

“It went well and they want a sibling. Stella mentioned something about not getting used to me being a dad and I told her to get used to it because we are trying for another.” He said 

“I’m glad they are excited.” You said as you ate and he nodded. You two continued to talk for a while before he was being called away and that is when you decided to leave you and the kids said goodbye and gave him hugs and kisses and all three of you were off.

The time for you and Kelly to go up to the cabin had finally come. The good news was that you had your period last week and knew you were ovulating so it would be perfect. You and Kelly had agreed not to drink this week because you were trying to get pregnant. You both dropped the kids off to your parents the night before and went to the store and grabbed the necessities and the stuff that needed to be in the fridge and freezer went into coolers and then the two of you started to head up right after. The ride up there was filled with talking, laughter, music, and some good and bad singing. Then you saw something white fall. “Is it snowing?” You asked leaning forward to get a better view and as more fell you confirmed it but so did Kelly.

“Looks like that.” He said and turned on the windshield wipers. You started to grin wider as you set back; you loved the snow and he knew that. It just made this all the more special. Thankfully his Jeep had all wheel drive and weather prepared. The lake started to come into view and then your cabin came into view and you smiled. Kelly saw you in the corner of his eye and he smiled. He loved it when you were happy. Kelly turned the Jeep and backed it up until he was close to the porch and parked and turned the key off. You got out and walked a little bit to where your favorite tree was. You weren’t standing there long before your felt arms around your waist. 

“Isn't it beautiful?” You asked 

“It sure is.” He said smiling though he wasn’t talking about the view but you didn’t know that.

“I can’t wait to get this week started.” You said and he smiled and kissed your head.

“Me either so let us get to it.” He said and you smiled and nodded and so you both started to unpack the Jeep and you went and unlocked the cabin and turned some lights on. Once the Jeep was unpacked and everything was sitting on the counter and suitcases by the stairs you went over and turned on the heat. “So, what do you want to start with first?” He asked as he started to put food away. 

“Hmmmm first we need to let everyone know we are here safely.” You said and he chuckled and you pulled out your phone to do so, you were glad you had service up here. “Then I think we should get a fire going and a movie queued. Just have a relaxing night in.” You said and he smiled as you walked over to him and leaned on the counter.

“That sounds wonderful, my beautiful wife.” He said and you blushed no matter how long you were with him he knew how to make you blush. 

“I also want you to know that my period was last week and I’m ovulating.” You said smirking as his lips started to turn into a smile.

“Oh really?” He asked

“Really.” You said

“We can get started on the 3rd kid now.” He said and you chuckled.

“First you’re going to build that fire.” You said and he groaned and sighed.

“Fine.” He said and sulked off but you just laughed and followed him grabbing the remote and turning on the TV and once it was on you turned it to Amazon Prime Video. 

“What do you want to watch?” You asked as he stacked the logs and lit them on fire.

“That new Twisters movie is out. How about that?” He asked

“Any chance to look at Glen Powell in a white T-Shirt with rain coming down and him in a cowboy hat I’ll take.” You said and he rolled his eyes but smiled.

“When did you see it?” He asked

“When the kids were in bed and you were at work.” You said and he laughed as he got up and came over and sat down and you snuggled into him. He grabbed the blanket from the back of the couch and threw it over you as you started the movie. You sat through the movie grinning like an idiot and slightly drooling and when it was over 2 hrs. later you were pouting and Kelly laughed but just kissed you. It was now dark and your stomach was growling. 

“Hungry?” He asked and you nodded.

“Yes, did the frozen pizza get put up?” You asked

“It did but it won’t take long to thaw and the oven preheats pretty fast.” He said “Is that what you want?” He asked.

“Yes. Did the ranch and hot sauce make it into the food?” You asked

“Of course. I know you can’t live without those two.” He said 

“Awww you really do love me.” You said as he started to get up to start getting the food ready.

“You know I do.” He said and turned to kiss you then he was walking into the kitchen as you started to get the next movie or show ready. You heard the freezer door open and close and the oven start. Soon Kelly was joining you back on the couch.

“What are we watching now?” He asked

“Leverage.” You said as you opened the blanket and he scooted in. You snuggled into his arms. You got 30 minutes into the movie when the oven preheated and he got up and put in the pizza and came back to the couch with drinks, ranch, and hot sauce. 

“20 minutes and we’ll have food ready.” He said and you smiled.

“Perfect.” You said “What do you say about going on a hike tomorrow?” You asked

“That sounds like a perfect plan then we can come in and warm up with activities.” He said wiggling his eyebrows and you rolled your eyes but you weren’t going to say no.

“Perfect.” You said and then he was getting up for the last time but this time he was bringing plates and pizza. He had set the pizza down and put a slice on the plate for you and handed it to you along with your sauce of choice. You spent the rest of the evening cuddled together eating pizza and watching a Leverage marathon. That’s what you ended up doing all night because the next morning you were waking up on the couch wrapped in your husband's arms laying on top of him, he must’ve moved to laying down. The fire had gone out and the warm sun was hitting your face. 

“Good morning.” He said and you looked down at him he still had his eyes closed. 

“You’re awake?” You asked and he opened his eyes and looked at you.

“Been awake for about 20 minutes, you just looked too peaceful to wake up.” He said and you smiled and kissed him and he kissed back. “When do you want to start that hike?” He asked.

“As soon as we get changed and have breakfast.” You said and he smiled and kissed you again.

“Perfect just like you.” He said and you blushed and then you were getting up and he was too. You both took your bag upstairs and got ready for the hike and the day. Once you were ready you helped make breakfast and you both ate while you both talked about anything or everything but mostly crazy calls he had gone on. You really didn’t have any crazy or funny stories so you left all that to him. When you were done you both put on your snow boots and winter coats along with hats and then you ventured out into the chilly air.

“Kels look!” You said looking out at the snow in amazement and all he could look at was the excitement on your face.

“It’s wonderful.” He said, he continued to stare at you until you looked at him.

“Ready?” You asked and he nodded.

“Always.” He said and so you both started to walk. It was wonderful you were huddled up against your husband and gloved hands holding each other. You must’ve walked for a few hours until you got to your favorite place by the lake, the place where your husband proposed and you had pictures of it thanks to Leslie Shay having come up with you. You two stood there and looked over the lake that now had a light layer of ice over it. 

“Remember when you proposed to me up here?” You asked, looking over at him as he looked out over the lake.

“I do. I remember like it was yesterday.” He said looking over at you and you were smiling. “If I could I would do it over again.” He said and you smiled and blushed but you couldn’t tell because your cheeks were pink from the cold and so was your nose. “Ready to head back?” He asked, looking at your rosy nose and cheeks. You smiled and nodded.

“Yes, I am. Also ready for those warming up activities that you have planned.” You said smirking and he smirked back.

“So am I.” He said and then you both shared a kiss and then you were heading back to the cabin. An hour later you were back and stepping into the warm cabin. 

“Warmth.” You moaned and he chuckled “I’m going to take a shower. You’re welcome to join me.” You said smirking and winking as you shed your jacket and boots and headed upstairs and he was quickly shedding his boots and jacket and hurrying behind you. When he finally reached you, the shower was already running and there was a pile of your clothes and his quickly joined. He stepped into the bathroom naked and pulled the glass shower door back. You turned to look at him smirking as he stepped in behind you. The shower was plenty big and it was perfect. His hands went to your breasts and massaged them as he kissed your neck and nipped at it your head turned to give him better access. “Want some hot chocolate, Babe?” He asked as he reached the kitchen and turned to you as you tended to the fire. You turned and smiled at him and nodded.

“Of course I do, Baby.” He said and brought over two mugs as you took a seat on the couch. He waited until you got settled before giving you your hot chocolate and then he sat down and you settled into him. 

“If we do end up pregnant, what are you hoping for?” You asked as you took a sip of your hot chocolate.

“Another girl would be nice but also another boy.” He said and you chuckled.

“What if it is twins again?” You asked and he smiled.

“That would be even more perfect.” He said and you smiled and snuggled further into him. Whatever you had or how many you had they would be equally loved and given attention. As the week came to an end and you were packing up and feeling refreshed during your stay you both had several more intimate moments and each time it was sweet and not rushed.

The next week was Christmas and you were excited for Kelly to open his present. When you had gotten back into town Sunday you dropped Kelly off at home and made a quick trip to the store before going to get the kids. You got a pregnancy test and some baby clothes, two sets. By the time you got into the house they were already rushing off to tackle their father and you laughed.

When you had gone back to work for the one day before Christmas Eve you were greeted back with open arms and everyone said you were glowing which you blushed but thanked them. You went through work happy and ready to be back home. The time for you to go home came quickly and you were saying bye to your coworkers and heading home. When you got there Kelly’s Jeep was gone still which meant that he was picking up the kids after his 24-hr. shift which meant that you had 20 minutes to take the test. You parked and then got out grabbing your stuff and rushing in. You quickly threw your jacket off and shoes and rushed to the bathroom. You went into the bathroom and grabbed the test which was hidden in your tampons. You pulled your pants and underwear down and sat on the toilet and took the test then capped it you set your timer for 5 minutes, you wiped and pulled up your underwear and pants. You were nervous but excited as you washed your hands. The timer went off and you took a breath and looked at it and melted in relief and excitement. Two pink lines. You were pregnant. 

You exited the bathroom and grabbed the gift bag and gift box. You quickly put the test in the box and the baby clothes in the bag. You went downstairs and put them under the tree just as soon as the door opened. The tree and decorations were put up and set up before you had left for your little vacation. “Honey, we’re home!” Kelly shouted and you chuckled.

“In the living room!” You shouted and they all came rushing in.

“Mom!” Zoey and Chase shouted and came and almost tackled you.

“Easy.” Kelly said and they listened and they hugged you and then sat down beside you. You smiled as they talked about their day and the gifts that were exchanged. You were invested in what they were saying and listened to them happily and so did Kelly. Soon it was time for dinner and then they were heading off to bed leaving you and Kelly alone cuddled up on the couch looking at the multi-colored lights on the Christmas tree. Neither of you spoke and as his hand rested on your stomach you smiled you couldn’t wait to share the news with him.

Christmas Eve came and went and family dinners were eaten and now it was Christmas. You both were woken up early and being ushered downstairs to the tree as your parents knocked on the door and Kelly went and opened the door. Everyone was gathered, gifts were open and thank you’s and I love you’s along with hugs were passed around. Finally, you decided to give Kelly his gift. “I have one last gift for you.” You told him as you reached over and grabbed the bag and box. You gave him the bag first and he opened it. He read it and things started to click and it seemed like everyone had gotten it already and they were smiling and squealing. 

“Are you?” He asked and you gestured to the box.

“Open it.” You said and he did and there sat the test with the two pink lines.

“Holy shit. Really?” He asked and you smiled and nodded tears coming to his eyes.

“Really.” You said and he practically lunged at you and hugged you and kissed you as everyone cheered and your parents congratulated you.

“We’re going to be grandparents again!” Your father cheered.

“Oh, I can’t wait to spoil them.” Your mother said. 

“Finally, another sibling!” Zoey and Chase said and you chuckled and nodded. Everything was great.

9 months later you were welcoming your twins. Yup twins. One boy, Sam Severide, and one girl, Olivia Severide. The numbers were even and Kelly was excited that they were and so were you. Both healthy and strong just like their daddy and you if you asked Kelly and others. Twins just meant twice the love that went around. 

Everything was perfect.

As you wiped the tears from your eyes, there was a cheerful knock at the door.

“Come in,” you announced.

Sylvie peeked her head in the room.

“Hey girl,” she laughed, “how you feeling?”

“I’m good,” you paused, “yeah, I’m okay.”

“Is now a good time? We’ve got some firefighters here who’d like to meet her.”

“I’ll let you meet her first.”

Coming over to the crib, Sylvie was in awe. You picked Alexis up and set her in Sylvie’s ready arms. 

“What’s this babe’s name?” She asked, bouncing Alexis slightly. 

“Alexis Shay Severide.”

“Aw, I love that. What did your mom think of you name your daughter after your sister?”

“She’s not so pleased, but she’ll get over it when she meets her. She’ll be here in a few days I hope.”

“She’ll fall in love with Alexis as soon as she meets her.”

Matt knocked on the door and came up behind Sylvie.

“Is this her?” Matt a sled, looking over at Kelly. 

“This is her,” Kelly smiled back.

You began to tear up again as you watched Sylvie and Matt fall in love with Alexis. Kelly sat beside you and you rested your head on his shoulder. 

“When’s your turn?” Kelly chuckled.

“One firehouse baby at a time,” Matt laughed, “we’ve been thinking about it though.”

“Matt do you want to hold her?” Sylvie asked.

Matt stuttered over his words before finally smiling and admitting, “I’ll absolutely take her.”

As Sylvie handed Alexis over, you and Kelly shared a look and a nod.

“What was that about?” Sylvie asked, gesturing to the nod she just witnessed.

“Kelly and I would like to ask you both if you’d be Alexis’ godparents,” you admitted.

Sylvie and Matt looked at each other, both speechless.

“Of course,” Matt answered.

Kelly stood up, leaning into Matt for a hug.

“Thank you, both of you,” Kelly said, pulling away from Matt and sitting in the chair beside you. 

Joe poked his head in the door.

“Hey, Severide. Mind if I bring in a few more smoke eaters?” Joe asked.

“Not at all. Who’s here?” Kelly replied.

“Everyone. Chief took the firehouse out of service for an hour or two.”

A few moments later, all of 51 poured into your recovery room, the air swelling with love. Everyone took turns passing your baby around and asking how you were doing.

“How you feeling, Severide?” Herrmann asked.

“I’m still in shock, but it got a great wife to be able to be a great father.”

“No feeling like being a father. After every kid Cindy and I had, I was still in shock. That’s normal.”

“Thanks Herrmann.”

Boden walked over to you and Kelly, gaining to attention of the crowd.

“I hate to cut this party short, but HQ has requested a return to quarters,” he announced.

“C’mon Chief, Severide will only be a first-time dad once,” Cruz argued.

“I know, I know,” he sighed, “I’ll make Kelly bring the baby by 51 soon.”

Otis handed you back Alexis and gathered his gear from the corner.

“Congratulations to you both. Really is a special day. Bring this baby by the firehouse real soon, would you? She’s a great morale boost,” Boden chuckled.

“Thank you all for coming. It’s good to know she’s got a community looking out for her,” you responded, tearing up once again.

As your room emptied, you and Kelly had a few moments to yourself with Alexis. You handed Alexis to her daddy’s very capable hands and Kelly sat in your bed beside you.

“You know what baby?” Kelly told you.

“What’s up?”

“I’m really proud of you today. Thank you for bringing our daughter into the world today.”

“I can’t wait to bring her home with you tomorrow.”

There was a knock at the door and Dr Calhoun appeared.

“I was speaking with another physician about our next steps in terms of when I can discharge you, given how you’ve been doing,” she explained.

“I can’t wait to get this baby out.” Y/n said as she walked over to sit on the couch from the kitchen. It was nice to have her husband and their bestfriend home after a long week.

“You done y/n/n?” Kelly asked amused at his pregnant friend. He did feel bad for her, the pregnancy hadn’t been an easy one.

“Yes, Severide. I am.” Y/n narrowed her eyes playfully at the salt n pepper haired man sitting across from her.

“Are you still coming over to help set up the nursery after shift tuesday?” Matt asked coming into the living room, handing Severide a beer before sitting down next to y/n.

“Yeah. of course I want to help set up my nephew or . . . Niece’s room.” Kelly smiled, hinting obviously at the certain information he has yet to be told. Kelly has been the most excited besides Y/n and Matt for the baby to come and he’s been trying to get the gender out of them since he knew the couple found out.

Y/n laughed at his antics, before turning her head to face Matt. “Come on Matt, I think he deserves to know. He is an uncle and Godfather right.”

Matt smiled nodding, giddy about finally letting his best friend know the gender of his baby. “Okay, okay. Let me go get the thing.”

“Thing?” he asked with confusion all over his face as he looked at Y/n since Matt left the room.

“Yes, thing. We planned a way to tell you.” Y/n smiled, also excited for Kelly to know the gender of their baby. Matt and her both knew Kelly was going to be very included in their child's life.

Matt came back into the room with a small gift bag with tissue paper coming out the top. Once he handed Kelly the bag he sat back down next to his wife, both smiling at the Squad Captain as he stared at the bag in his hands. “Go on, open it.”

With the encouragement Kelly did as told excitedly digging into the bag. “No!” he looked up towards the couple across from him with pure excitement lit up in his eyes. “Are you kidding?!”

Waking up is just part of a regular day, right. But not for the two of you, or should I say three of you. Today marks the 1st anniversary of a unique history that you never believe living in this lifetime. 

Everything begins when your place of work crashes down because of a fire that your boss makes just for the insurance and almost takes everyone’s life. On the day you met one of the most dashing men you've ever seen. Dom Pascal, chief of the 51, the most famous firefighters squad of Chicago, your heart was taken the moment he grabbed you and led you out the building.Your dating begins when he finally divorce his wife Monica. He bought a new apartment, since his wife stays with the house in the divorce process. Your life could not be more perfect, but what the odds with the next part of this journey.

You manage another job in some fancy boutique in downtown and another regular day a bunch of thieves, stoll the store next your’s. On the day you met Hank Voight, sergeant and leader of the intelligence division of CPD, he was the one who talked to you about the situation. But you couldn’t stop thinking about the fact that somehow you also were captivated by that man. It takes like two months to figure out everything and realize that you are made to love both men. After talking with Dom and explaining the situation, it was really amazing how he agreed with that. In a casual dinner at Hank’s place everything was settled and the trio was created. But on occasion, Voight still wanna stay in his house, unlike Pascal, Voight is a widower and you respect his process of letting go. You knew that house has so much of him, his wife Camille, his son Justin and Erin, the girl he raised as his daughter.

Last month, Hank gave the news that you have been waiting so long, he wants to move in, but he desires to rent his house, instead of selling, lucky your cousin was coming to stay and built a life with his family, so Voight agreed to rent to them. Today it's the big day, you will have your two beloved men under the same roof. you feel like the luckiest woman, because you manage to have two of the most important men of the city in your house, mind and heart for good.

- So Baby! How will be the schedule be for today - Dom asks while wrapping his arms around you.

- I will pick my cousin and his family, which led me to see if it is too much for you to use the chief car and let me use yours. - You said while starting to serve breakfast.

It took 45 minutes to get fully ready for the day. Dom holds your hand on the way to the garage, once you reach his Jeep,he opens the door and proceeds to his side. The Way to the 51 was kind of messy, since the snow started falling way before the winter, which caused Dom to drive a little slower than usual. Once on the 51, you two share a hug and a long kiss.

Kelly Severide and Stella greet you once the kiss is finished, you waved back while Dom handed the car keys to you.

Your cousin was punctual as always and he was very excited with his new life in Chicago since his last address wasn’t safe enough. It is not like Chicago was so calm, but knowing a cop, Hank in this case, surely will help with the security he is looking for his family. At the first moment you guide the moving truck to the address, since you have an extra key, you planned to have their stuff dropped at home. Once it was done, the truck could finally return to his origins. Mellany and the kids, Alicia and Maddox stayed in the house and started to unpack their belongings, otherwise Teddy followed with you to the 21 district to sign the final paper on the rent contract.

Took like 20 minutes to arrive at the destination. Teddy and you follow through the front door, straight to the desk and greet Trudy.

when your daughters were born, after a very long and painful labor, it was hard to take them away from jay and kelly. they wanted to protect them from the world. they would thank you for giving them your daughters and you were just in awe at how quickly they became professionals.

they loved being at home with their girls and loved helping when you would get clogged ducts and in general. when the doctor cleared you for sex, will and connor took the twins and they went at your pace.

a year later you got pregnant, again.

life with them was amazing, and once your third baby was born, jay retired from working, and helped with them while you worked from your at-home office, and when you were pregnant with your fourth, kelly moved to ofi for consistent hours, and a less dangerous job, and you couldn’t be more grateful.

Summary: Sophia is Hailey's and Jay's teenage daughter. She deffends Makayla from some bullys, now she has to pay the price.

This was the first fic I dared to post, I'm so glad I found it!

"Yeah, get out of here, you fucking asshole!"

Everyone at Molly's stood silent when they heard the screeming from outside the bar. The voice of the girl was unmistakable, everyone knew who she was. Hailey and Jay shared a concerned look.

"And don't you dare to even look at her again, you moron!"

It was defenitely Sophia. No doubt.

Hailey and Jay stood up in a hurry to go outside, followed by Adam and Kim, naturally Makayla was with her. From the other side of the bar, a concerned Severide also rushed to help.

"Or other wise you'll have to respond to me, you jerk! And I won't be any gentile!"

That last phrase made Hailey's and Jay's blood run cold. Everything happened so fast. Before they could reach the entrance door, it opened. Will Halstead was leading a furious Sophia and a crying Mckayla inside of the bar. Once the three of them were inside, and before the door closed, Lydia pocked her head out and yelled her last insult.

"Fucker!"

-"Sophia, please! That's enough!" Will took her from the shoulders and turned her inside of the bar.

Molly's was closed to the public that day, there was a party to celebrate Violet's and Gallo's engagement. So Sophia and Mckayla were able to be there along with their parents and friends. The place was full of firefighters, detectives and some doctors from The Med.

All of the guests were shocked looking at the girls, mostly looking at Sophia. They knew she was an impulsive girl, but their faces were showing confusion and concern.

Kim and Adam immediatly ran to hug their daughter. When Sophia raised her head she saw Hailey, Jay and Severaid in front of her, but also Platt, Hermann and Cruz had arrived to the scene. They were in a defensive position, ready to go out to defend the girls. Will raised his hands, saying that everything was ok.

Hailey walked to Sophia, Jay behind his wife. Both of them looking at their daughter straight to the eyes, asking for an explanation with a simple sight.

"-Mom, they were bullying her, ok? They were saying bad things to her and I wasn't going to let them! Not anymore!".

Jay was about to say something, when Kim interrupted without taking her eyes off Makayla.

"-Bullying? Who was bullying her?"

-"Some shitheads from school" -Sophia said right away.

-"Language!" Jay, Hailey and Will said unison, thought their first instinct was to laught.

Everyone at the bar was paying attention to the scene and they couldn't help to laugh a bit. Even Hank Voight smirked a little bit at the girl's reaction. That's when Sophia realized that this wasn't a private conversation.

"-Sorry", she muttered. "Look, I was trying to...protect her..."

-"At least she didn't hit anybody this time" -Mak said in a funny tone. She was feeling better now, surrounded by her loved ones.

-"Yes, because I happened to appear before she did something ~stupid". -Will completed Makayla's tought, which made her laugh.

-"That happened once and it was an accident. I thought we were over it?"

Jay rolled his eyes at her daughter's argument. "Ok. Let's leave this in here for now. We should go back to the party". -He said realizing the attention they were drawing.

-"Yeah, we should go back" Adam reafirmed, looking around.

Hailey hugged her daughter's shoulder and kissed her head, she couldn't deny she was proud of her daughter's grit.

Everyone went back to their seats. When Sophia passed by Severide, he strocked her head as a symbol of affection. He and Stella were very fond of her. Later that day, when Stella arrived from her shift, Kelly told her what happened with the girls and she bursted into laughs: "That girl has been a sassy pants since she was in diappers".

The party continued normally. Everybody seemed happy, having fun. Makayla was dancing and sharing laughts, as if nothing had happened before. Kim and Adam where isolated on a table having a serius conversation, those bully boys were not going to have it easy.

Sophia was seating between her parents at the same table as Will, Severaid and Stella. On the next table Voight, Platt and Mouch were part of the same conversation. Sophia told them how the boys were harrassing Makayla and how she felt the urge to defend her to make it stop. Hank suggested she had the gut to be a cop or maybe even a lawyer, Jay discarded both ideas. Trudy finished the conversation on the matter by saying "You've always been my favorite Halstead".

-"I'm a little bit hungry. Can I go get some pizza?"

-"Sure. Go get a slice and bring some more to me too. I can descount the favor from your new debt to the swearing jar" - Jay said teasing his daughter and then stood up to let her out. Sophia just rolled her eyes. He gave her a mocking smile.

Kim approached to the table in that exact moment, looking for Sophia.

-"Hey, Soph. I just wanted to thank you...I know this is not the first time that you stand for Mack like this, she has told us, so... just thank you. You've been a lot of help for her".

Sophia shrugged in shyness "She's my best friend", she stated reffering that the obvios thing to do was to stand for her friend, sister.

Hailey and Jay had their eyes on their daughter, they couldn't stop looking at her with a proud smile on their faces. The atmosphere was calm and full of love, when Will interrupted the feeling: "You still have to pay the swearing jar, you won't get rid of it".

Sophia abruptly pointed to Makayla and said as a joke: "You owe me like 10 dollars for this".

-"Are you kidding me?" -Jay stared- "You owe the jar like 50 dollars, kiddo".

-"Are you serius!?"

-"Yeah, I'm with your dad in this" -Hailey continued -"Those were really bad prohibited words, sweetie".

-"Yeah, and I only used them for a good reason".

-"Bad words are bad words, and you must follow the swearing jar law". Her father said raising an eyebrow and proceeded to drink from his beer.

Sophia crossed her arms and continued the funny argument "Really? How many criminals have you handcuff by talking to them politely?"

-"She's got a good point" -Trudy said.

-"I'm with her at this" -Voight followed.

They all laught at the silly debate. Those around who listened to the conversation shared some giggles, also because the family dynamic was adorable.

-"All right" -Hailey stood up- "If mom doesn't get the pizza, you two are going to starve, so excuse me".

Father and daughter sat down again, Jay hugging her by the shoulder "I love you, kiddo. I love you so much. You're still paying, though".

Sylvie approach to the table with a bright smile: "That won't be a problem. We all saw what you did, so Violet, Blake, Ritter and I collected some cash for you. Here you have".

-"Geez, thanks!"

-"Pay the jar, and don't you dare to curse ever again, or you'll leave us broke". -Violet yelled from her spot, next to Blake.

Y/n sighed as she stared down at the white stick in her hand. Another negative. Y/n and her husband Kelly had been trying to start a family, the next step in their relationship after marrying 4 years ago. They had meet via y/n's father Hermann, and they had instantly met it off. Y/n worked as a receptionist in the fire department and that was where Kelly first seen y/n. He had voiced his interest on the than 24 year old but had soon be shut down when Hermann told him that she was his daughter. It was actually y/n who started the relationship, by asking Kelly out for drinks, where Kelly than fell for her.

The two had dated for 4 years before Kelly popped the question. Now the two were ready to start the next chapter in their lives, but it was proving to be more difficult than they thought.

Y/n looked up at Kelly to see his eyes red as he tried not to cry. Wanting to comfort her husband, she pulled away from him before getting up and standing in front of him, pulling him into a hug. Kelly wrapped his arms around her waist as the two held each other, letting their frustrations out. Trying to get pregnant wasn’t easy, which felt ironic with all the time before marriage they tried to prevent an unplanned pregnancy. Kelly was always unsure of if he wanted kids, he didn’t exactly have a role model of a father to look up to, but that changed when y/n would often rope him into watching her siblings with her. Y/n had always smiled watching Kelly with her kid siblings, dreaming of the day they had their own.

“No luck.” Kelly voiced, eyeing his wife as she walked back out of the bathroom with the stick in hand.

“No.” Y/n spoke, tears filling her eyes as Kelly sighed in disappointment. “I’m sorry.” She stated, looking down as she sat beside him on the bed.

“Hey, why are you sorry. It’s not your fault.” Kelly stated, throwing an arm over her shoulder before kissing her head and leaning against her.

“But what if it is. What if I can’t have kids. Kelly all I’ve ever wanted was to be a mom but now..”

“Hey, it’ll happen. We’ll have our little one.” Kelly spoke, wrapping both arms around her, pulling her towards him.

Y/n sighed as she leaned on her husband’s chest.

“It’s been nearly a year Kel, maybe it’s not meant to be.” Y/n spoke, allowing a few tears to shed.

“I know.” Kelly sighed, bringing a hand up to wipe his eyes.

“Like adoption?” Y/n asked as they pulled away, playing with Kelly’s hair.

“I was thinking of going to a fertility clinic. But if you want to go down adoption I’m all for that.” Kelly smiled weakly, kneading his thumb into y/n’s waist as he held them.

“I always wanted a child of my own, but I also always thought it would be easy to happen.” Y/n explained, looking Kelly in the eye.

“I know it’s not easy to go down that route, but we’re both exhausted y/n. We’ve been trying for so long, let’s take a break, spend time on us, organize a meeting with someone. See how it goes.” Kelly spoke, leaning his forehead on hers.

“Yea.” Y/n sighed, allowing Kelly to peck her lips.

“Come on, let’s head to work.” Kelly sighed, patting her sides before gently pushing her away from him as he stood up.

“Lonely bed tonight.” Y/n sighed in mock disappointment.

“Hey, at least your bed is comfy. Single beds are not great for a married man who’s used to his wife by his side.” Kelly smirked, pulling y/n to his side after grabbing his duffel bag.

“Seemed pretty comfy to me that one time.” Y/n smirked as she teased her husband with a wink.

“Behave.” Kelly scolded her, elbowing her away from him as they made their way to the front door.

Y/n stretched as she sat up from her desk two weeks later. Kelly and her were finishing work early to get out to meet the fertility clinic. The plan was to have their first consult, and the couple would go through an examination each to see where they were. They had chosen to keep their plans to themselves, not wanting Kelly’s co- workers to ask too many questions. There had been teasing among them when Kelly said they were leaving early, and Hermann had badgered his daughter, asking her what was going on. He had seen how tired the two were, and worried about the two, having started seeing Kelly as an extra son when he started dating his daughter.

“You’d tell me if there was something wrong, right?” He had asked y/n when she entered the kitchen for a coffee that morning.

“Dad, stop worrying. Everything is A okay.” Y/n smiled, kissing her father’s cheek.

“You look tired.” He noted, eyeing her weary eyes.

“I’m not a morning person, you should know that.”  Y/n smirked over her mug before taking a sip of her coffee.

“Uhuh.” Hermann sighed, taking the mug from y/n to set it down before pulling her into a hug, y/n meeting Kelly’s eyes over her father’s shoulder.

Kelly meet y/n at the cock pit of 51, leaning against squad’s truck as he looked out. Y/n had laughed a little at the sight, remembering all the times they had spent kidding behind that truck when they first started dating. Kelly pulled her into a hug as she got in front of him, before taking her bag from her as they walked to y/n’s car. It was silent as they drove to the clinic. Y/n and Kelly had a habit of playing with their rings when they were nervous, and if anyone seen them copying each other in the waiting room, they surely would of laughed.

The meeting was short, with the nurse explaining what was going to happen and the steps that may be possible. She explained that with y/n being a young, healthy woman, IVF was a possible choice. The couple were soon brought to separate rooms for their physical, and then it was a waiting game. Y/n was a nervous wreck for the week long wait, and the duo became quiet around everyone, worrying them to no end. But than their meeting came around, and Kelly and y/n held hands as they waited in the office for their doctor to sit down, file in hand.

“Mr and Mrs Severide, how are you both feeling?” The doctor smiled at them, seeing how nervous they are.

“Anxious to know our results.” Y/n spoke, looking at Kelly before looking at the woman in front of them.

“Well I’m happy to confirm that I am happy with the way you both are. Kelly your sperm quantity and hormone levels are up to the standard for fertilization. Y/n, your egg quality and quantity seem normal for a woman your age, your hormone levels are good, ultrasound and x- ray came back clear. You are both healthy individuals. A perfect candidate for IVF treatment.” The doctor smiled and the couple looked at each other, a watery smile on their faces.

“If everything is how they are expected, why aren’t we able to conceive ourselves?” Y/n asked, disheartened at the news.

“Sometimes there is no explanation to why someone can’t conceive naturally. But there is no shame in not being able to. Y/n, you are a healthy individual, and sometimes the body just needs a helping hand, and that’s okay. There’s nothing wrong with you y/n, just because you struggle to conceive.” The doctor smiled sadly, and Kelly squeezed her hand with a soft smile.

“What happens now?” Kelly asked.

“I’m not going to lie. The next few weeks are going to be tough, there may be some disappointments along the way. Y/n will go through a series of treatments to prepare her body for the extraction of her eggs. From there we will fertilize them. Once we know how many fertilized, we can then go through the process of embedding the egg into y/n’s womb, from there it’s a waiting game.” The doctor explained, and y/n looked at Kelly.

“What are the chances of this working?” Y/n asked.

“Unfortunately I cannot give a definite answer to that. Everyone is different. And it’s important that you don’t compare yourself to other people’s experience. Focus on your own, how many rounds you do is up to you. We go at your pace.”

“Okay, when can we start?” Y/n breathed, and Kelly smiled as he wrapped an arm over her shoulder.

The following few months were tiring. Y/n would take her injections, but with her fear of needles, Kelly would help her with them. During work, y/n would go into Kelly’s office and he would keep her injections in a mini fridge in his office. The daily injections were daunting, but it became apart of their routine, and the results were what they thought of, even with the discomfort of y/n’s abdomen.

Y/n sighed and looked around to see the firemen that surrounded them before nodding her head for her dad to follow her, which he did. She didn’t say anything till they got to Kelly’s office, and she opened the door, letting her father in first before closing it behind them. Kelly looked up in confusion at the father daughter duo.

“Hey y/n, you ok?” Hermann asked his daughter one day as she held her stomach slightly.

“Yea dad I’m fine.” Y/n stated, getting a glass of water.

“Are you in pain, I can get Brett to look you over if you like.”

“No dad, it’s fine, stop worrying.” Y/n sighed, getting annoyed.

“What’s up with you lately? Your not yourself lately.”

“Dad..”

“No y/n, please talk to me. I’m your father, it’s my job to look out for you. Is there something going on between you and Kelly because..”

“Oh my God dad stop. Me and Kelly are fine. It’s just..”

“What is it?” Hermann asked softly, placing a hand on y/n’s shoulder.

“We have to tell him Kelly, he’s annoying me with his pestering.” Y/n sighed, looking at her husband while hearing Hermann mutter.

“Sorry for caring about my daughter.” Hermann muttered, and y/n smiled slightly as she kissed his cheek before sitting on Kelly’s bed.

“Come sit.” Y/n smiled, patting the space beside her.

“What you have to tell me?” Hermann asked softly, looking between his daughter and son in law.

“Y/n and I have some news. But don’t over react about it.” Kelly stated, and gave Hermann a look as he went to object.

“Fine.” Hermann said, shaking his head slightly.

“Kelly and I, we’re ready to take the next step in our relationship.” Y/n spoke, looking at her father as he made a look of slight disgust, “But it’s been hard.” She looked at Kelly to continue.

“We weren’t able to get pregnant naturally, so we decided to get some advice. We went through some tests and went through our options.” Kelly stated.

“We’re going through IVF at the minute.” Y/n spoke, and Hermann looked at y/n.

“Oh sweetie, why didn’t you tell me or your mum.” Hermann spoke, placing an arm around his daughter.

“It’s been hard dad. Every negative test made us feel like something was wrong. And it was so hard to accept that it wasn’t going to happen ourselves. I didn’t want to admit that.” Y/n spoke, and Hermann sighed, bringing y/n into a hug.

“So, what’s happening now?” Hermann asked, still holding his daughter in his arms.

“At the minute y/n’s taking injections, than when the course if finished hopefully, with some examinations, she’ll be ready for egg extraction. They’ll fertilize her eggs and then we find out how many eggs we have. Hopefully.” Kelly added at the end.

“Is there anything I can do to help?”

“Just being here is enough dad.” Y/n spoke, feeling Hermann kiss her head.

“I’m here for you, for both of you.” Hermann spoke, reaching over y/n’s head to put a hand on Kelly’s shoulder.

“Thanks Hermann.” Kelly smiled.

A few months later y/n had gone through her extraction and was on her way to the center. She had received a call yesterday that 4 out of 10 of her eggs had fertilized, and once she hit ovulation they would implant it in her uterus to see if it would stick. Kelly was beside her, holding her hand as they drove to the center. They had booked the two days off work so y/n had no stress.

Kelly sat in the waiting room while y/n went through her implantation. He couldn’t stop fiddling with his ring, even after the doctor told him he could go in. He tried not to laugh at y/n’s grogginess, seeing her sleepy state made her smile. He kissed her head before holding her hand, listening as the doctor explained how the next few weeks would go. There would be a 14 day wait before they would know if they fertilized embryo stuck. She advised them not to take an at home pregnancy test before sending them home, telling y/n to relax and not stress too much.

The 14 days flew by, and the day of the test came by, with y/n feeling anxious. She held a tight grip on Kelly’s hand as she got her blood drawn, and then the waiting begun. Squad were on call when y/n received the call, and her father was sitting beside her at her desk when her phone rang.

“Hello?” “It is.” “Okay.” “uhuh” “okay” “Thank you.”

“What is it?” Hermann asked her daughter, seeing the look on her face.

“It’s the clinic.” Y/n stated, and Hermann sat up straight as he looked around.

“I’m here for you.” He stated when he seen no one around, taking y/n’s hand and rubbing his thumb against her knuckles.

Y/n’s controlled voice did nothing to control Hermanns nerves. She tightened the grip on his hand as the call went on, and he dreaded the worse. During the call he had heard squad pulling back in, and Kelly soon arrived at the door. Seeing his father in law holding his wife’s hand, he raised a brow, but held his breath when he seen y/n on the phone.

Y/n looked down as she hung up the phone, before looking up, her eyes on Kelly. Kelly couldn’t read her face as she walked away from her father and towards him. Wrapping his arms around her, he kissed her cheek when he felt her shake.

“Shh.” He comforted her, thinking it was bad news as Hermann looked down.

“Better get used to being called daddy.” Y/n mumbled in his ear, and Kelly froze.

“Are you??” He asked, pulling away from her.

“Uhuh.” She smiled widely, nodding her head.

“Oh my God.” He laughed loudly, lifting her up as she squealed in excitement.

“I can’t believe it, it isn’t real.” Y/n spoke teary eyed, cupping Kelly’s face as tears built up in his own.

“This is amazing.” He laughed, allowing the tears to fall as y/n wiped them away with her thumbs. “I’m going to be a dad.”

“I’m going to be a mum.” She stated, “Your going to be a granddad.” Y/n spoke, turning to her father who watching the interaction between the two with tears in his eyes.

“I am so happy for you two.” Hermann spoke, standing up to congratulate the two.

“What’s all this?” Boden asked, seeing two of his firemen crying and his receptionist between them, also in a similar mess.

“I’m going to be a grandpa.” Hermann blurted out, and y/n giggled when he looked at her guilty.

YN and Severide wanted to have a baby for a while. They knew that as soon as they got married they would try for a baby, but unfortunately for them it took a lot longer than they thought for them to conceive. A year later after trying YN started to have pregnancy symptoms like morning sickness, swollen breasts, tiredness.. etc. Of course Kelly was immediately at the nearest shop to get some pregnancy tests and got home in record time. Within a few minutes they were celebrating the fact that they were going to be parents.

That was 5 months ago and while YN has been looking a little bloated there wasn't a prominent baby bump until today. The weather in Chicago has been rather nice recently, so YN gets dressed into a maxi dress. What she doesn't realise is that the dress being tight fitting shows off her small baby bump. YN leaves her shared bedroom with Kelly and heads downstairs into the living room where Kelly is sat watching the TV

You and Matt have been married for three years. Despite once being in a relationship with Matt, you quickly befriended Gabby when you were her partner on 61. Now, Gabby is a firefighter under Matt and you are partnered up with Brett. Through all of the awkward moments between you and Gabby when it comes to Matt, you are still best friends. Gabby was one of your biggest supporters when you were pregnant with y/s/n. You and Matt had recently broken it off because of his alderman duties when you started getting violently sick. “Excuse me?” You croaked, leaning heavily on Brett as she helped steady you on the way to the bathroom while Gabby stayed behind to change Matt’s sheets.

“Shhhh. Breathe.” Kelly instructed, taking your face in his hands. “Everything will be just fine.”

“What if he leaves?” You sobbed, grabbing onto Kelly for dear life. “I need him. I’m just really hurt that he won’t talk to me but I need him.” You sobbed, not realizing that Matt was standing behind the three of you as he waited for Gabby clutching a sick bag and a bottle of water.

“Baby, no.” Matt whispered, coming to crouch in front of you, handing what he had off to Kelly. “Yeah, I’m scared and yes, I should have talked to you. But understand this: I. Am. Not. Going. Anywhere.” Matt emphasized, looking you dead in the eyes. “Both Gabby and Kelly found me in a panic and that’s why I told them. You are dealing with so much right now and I don’t want you to worry about me too.” Matt explained, wiping the tears from your face as Gabby came in with the go bag, slipping the pulse ox on your finger and the BP cuff on.

“How we doin?” Gabby asked, seeing your heart rate elevated and your oxygen levels at 95.

“Nauseous and dizzy.” You explained, leaning into Matt’s hands as he held your face.

“BP’s low.” Brett announced, grabbing the Iv kit from the bag. “I think you’ve got yourself dehydrated. I’m going to place a line.” Brett said, already prepping your arm.

Your eyes widened as you looked between all of your friends and your husband. “No way. Nope.” You said, trying to stand, but quickly falling back down into Kelly with Matt guiding your decent.

“You aren’t going anywhere. Relax.” Kelly said, squeezing your upper arms.

“Matt, please.” You begged, tears streaming down your face. You were starting to turn grey as the nausea built along with your anxiety.

“Shhh. It’s gonna be alright.” Matt soothed, kissing your forehead before turning to Kelly. “Switch with me. Let me hold her, it normally calms her down. Get the sick bag ready.” Matt instructed, quickly switching with Kelly as the man did what he was instructed to do. Matt sat with you in between his legs so that your back was pushed to his chest. He rested his chin lightly on your shoulder as he whispered in your ear. “Shhhh. It’s for the best. I’m sorry baby. I’m so sorry. I love you. I’ve got you.” Matt whispered as you began hyperventilating from the panic of the rising nausea and the impending IV.

“Look at me. Just look at me.” Kelly said, kneeling in your line of sight. He waited until you opened your eyes to meet his own. Kelly smiled at you as he started breathing in time with Matt. “Just relax. We gotcha. We gotta do what’s best for you and the little princess, right?” Kelly said, smiling wider when you nodded. “That’s right. Just breathe. Follow us and focus on us.” Kelly instructed.

Matt noticed you starting to follow, but saw Brett going in with the needle. Matt and Kelly made eye contact as the needle pinched your skin. Kelly saw your change in color as Matt felt your gasp and then gag harshly.

“Shit. Okay, here sweetheart. Hang in there.” Kelly said, placing the bag under your chin as Matt pulled your hair back once more and held you steady around the torso.

“I’m gonna flush this, then give her some Zofran. We gotta get this under control. You cool with that and then some fluids for her Matt?” Brett asked, flushing the IV as she spoke.

“God yes. Whatever you have to do.” Matt instructed, hating how you were squirming and panting in his lap. You shook like a leaf as Matt held you on the cold tile floor.

“Gabby. Can you run and grab a blanket and a wash rag? She’s shaking like a leaf.” Kelly asked, not daring to move the sick bag too far. You were only panting right now, but you had no color to your face.

“On it!” Gabby replied, hurrying off.

“Alright. You know this might sting just a little. Then I’m gonna flush it and then run the fluids, okay?” Brett warned, speaking directly to you now. Once you nodded, Brett administered the medication and did everything else she said she would do before standing up with the bag of saline.

Gabby came running back in as Brett stood up. You were still shaking, but you felt comfortable enough to push the sick bag away. Once Gabby helped you clean your face and wiped the sweat off of your face, she wrapped the blanket around you. A silent decision was made to move you, so Kelly pulled you up and steadied you until Matt stood back up and picked you up, carrying you back into his office.

You groaned, throwing your head back. “Can someone PLEASE get me some mouth wash or my tooth brush. I can’t take this taste anymore.” You whined, shoving your face into Matt’s neck as he sat with you in his lap on his cot.

You didn’t notice Kelly depart from you guys as the lot of you left for Matt’s office. He came back in seconds later with mouth wash, your tooth brush and tooth paste, another bottle of water and another sick bag. “I figured you would want to get the taste out.” Kelly said, confused at the laughter coming from everyone else.

“Thank God. Someone with some sense.” You muttered sarcastically, making grabby hands for the items.

Matt and Gabby muttered “I beg to differ” at the same time, causing everyone to laugh. God, you couldn’t do this without them.

Chapter Synopsis: With the Severides' sister missing, Teddy deals with it as best as she can. And with her birthday coming up, Jay needs as much insight as he can get.

Keep an eye on Teddy. Her coping mechanisms are worse than Kelly's. Must be an eldest child thing.

That promise was hard to keep when the only place Teddy ever was outside work was our apartment. Even then, she barely came out for anything to eat. Halloway reasoned that she has a mini fridge in her office—both at home and the firehouse—to save her the effort while doing paperwork.

I was a bit put off by her mostly eating whatever fits in a mini fridge, but the only junk food I've ever seen her eat were a bag of chips once, watching a movie.

"I'm tired of being cooped up in here waiting for Lindsay's call. Let's go out." Teddy sighed, slipping a white rattan bag onto her shoulder and checking the contents. It matched well with the pink-and-white sundress that reached her ankles, and matching white shoes. "The housekeeper can come take care of Scout while we're out."

I stared up at the Louis Vuitton store from the sidewalk. "When you said 'go out', I didn't think you meant shopping."

"Retail therapy exists, Jay. And if my dad is going to keep throwing money at me for a grandchild, I'm going to spend said money on us." She smiled, fixing her sunglasses in the crown of her head before opening the front door.

My jaw was minutes from dropping as Teddy picked out bags and shoes she would buy, passing them off to me to carry. I had about three bags hanging from my arms and two pairs of shoes hooked into the fingers of each hand when she decided she was done. When I offered to carry her items, Teddy stared at me like I grew another head.

"I'm a firefighter, Jay. I think I can carry two bags to the car."

"Firefighter or not, you're still my wife." I pointed out. "My mother raised me well."

Teddy laughed, continuing on to the car regardless of whatever I say. "I have no doubt." As I drove to the mall nearby, Teddy stared at me. "I'm counting your freckles, not trying to stare into your soul, never fear."

"Counting my freckles for...?"

"A grounding technique," she reasoned. "Helps me to feel less overwhelmed by things. They're also really pretty."

My face heated at the compliment. "Thank you." She reasoned that it was the truth, and started telling me about the new candidate she was taking on.

Apparently, Search Squads could take a candidate right out of the academy—Teddy had done on multiple occasions—instead a candidate getting a truck placement. It wasn't too common for Search Squads to do this, since their equipment required significant careful handling, but the officers weren't too partial to picking out the elite academy students to take in.

"I know Rebecca graduated at the top of her class, but I didn't select her myself. I don't select people from the academy unless I put them in it." She sighed, holding her face. "She's only been given a placement on my team because of who her brother is."

I hummed a little unenthusiastic, as I looked for a parking space "I thought it was her dad that's the chief."

"He is, but her brother's my ex."

Crashing her car was the one thing keeping me from staring at her. Of course she dated people before we met, are you kidding? An attractive woman in her twenties, with money and a firefighter, no less. A lieutenant at that, only the cherry on top.

She wasn't overly tall, and she had slight curves. Thighs I would die to be smothered in, her hands in my hair—

"Jay. I'm starting to think you have a staring problem." Teddy looked back at her phone. "I have exes, as I'm sure you do too. And I've dated a firefighter or two in my career, but not since making lieutenant." Her eyes cast up at me, "and I'm not one to bail out of this marriage for someone else."

I felt my face heat up, thanking God that she thought I was annoyed at her having dated before and not thinking that I was wanting her to sit on my face.

"I'm not a virgin either, so you can get that hope out of your head too. I'm not an innocent virgin you can corrupt just because you're a few years older than me; I can be a bitch when I want to and I want to be spoiled every once and a while."

Noticing a small flower stand outside the mall, I pulled into the nearest parking space. "Then let me buy you some flowers." Teddy smiled at me, happily climbing out of the car and waited for me to join her before we stepped up to the flower stand.

"What can I get for you, loves?" The sweet elderly woman approached as Teddy checked out the flowers. "All hand picked from my garden, I'll tell you."

"They're beautiful."

I agreed with Teddy through a nod. "I'm just looking to get my wife some hyacinths."

The lady nodded, moving swiftly towards the stand to collect a small bunch. "I always love seeing young men like you buying flowers for their partners. It's a beautiful sight to see."

"He even brought me flowers when he picked me up from work last week." Teddy tucked her arm through mine, squeezing my lower arm.

"Oh, I remember my husband doing that." She wrapped the flowers with beautiful paper as she continued talking. "Seeing you two reminded me of us when we were young. So happy and full of life. I bet your parents are very happy for you both."

"My mom and dad adore him," my wife rubbed my arm, smiling as she talked about our wedding. I remembered Herrmann walking her down the aisle, given her father not attending the ceremony itself, and his wife, Cindy, gave the mother of the bride speech.

Kind of a given that Cindy would make that speech—Teddy had told me beforehand, since her mother couldn't do it. Herrmann was surprised to be asked to walk her down the aisle, Teddy having invited them and their kids over for dinner to ask them.

He'd teared up, promising that the wedding could have been that very moment and he'd still walk her down the aisle.

I loved her relationship with Herrmann, knowing what her relationship with her father was like. I knew she had someone she could count on if I ever messed up so horribly that I needed a punch in the face.

Not that I doubted her squad wouldn't do that first, or Kelly. Shay was, honest to god, Teddy's number one protector, so she would probably beat everyone else to the punch. Literally.

"Oh, you found a real sweetheart then. I'll think of you as my daughter whenever I wish her marriage was just as sweet." The elderly lady smiled, holding Teddy's hands before passing over the flowers. I handed her enough money for a sum of a tip for her service, and we headed inside the mall after a happy goodbye.

Teddy held the flowers on her arm, staring at them as we walked through the building. I knew something was up, and when I asked, she just gave me a sigh. "That was my grandmother."

"What?"

"That daughter she was talking about was my mom." She readjusted the flowers on her arm as she continued to explain. "After my mom died, and I became the typical rich party-girl, my father cut off my maternal grandparents and we've never heard from them again."

"She didn't recognise you."

"She's old, Jay. And it's been almost eighteen years since she even heard about her grandkids. My grandfather has dementia, and she's been spending all her time that isn't spent taking care of him outside this place. Every time I want to tell her that it's me, her granddaughter, I chicken out. I think that maybe she's better off only worrying about her husband."

"That's ridiculous." I scoffed, before realising how rude that could have sounded. "I'm sorry, but you should tell her who you are. I know you buy from her all the time because the logo on the flowers I just got you and the ones you buy all the time are the same.

"She seems like a lovely woman, and you clearly get along well enough when she thinks you're just a regular customer. I'm sure she would love to know her great-granddaughter as much as she'd want to know her granddaughter."

When I felt like I'd said too much, or said the wrong thing based on Teddy's silence, some woman approached us with a snarky look on her face. "If it isn't Thea Rhodes with another boytoy."

"Hello, Clementine." The tone of Teddy's voice was all I needed to know that we didn't like this woman.

Clementine St. Clair. Pretentious, number 1 at backhanded compliments. Typical popular girl in highschool, only got into college because dear old daddy paid for the Dean to take her. Heiress to St. Clair Brewery, not that she's good at anything other than being a two-faced snake.

Teddy gave me a rundown of all the faces I'd eventually meet in high society. Most of them she apparently didn't like, and the one she figured I would like no longer partook in any events since he left for the Rangers.

Her ex-fiancé, and her best friend from birth, that she didn't want to marry anyway.

"Have you gave up on that fireman dream now?"

"It's called a firefighter now, and no. Claire's going to take over the company instead." Teddy gave this Clementine the fakest smile I'd ever seen on her. "My father's grooming her to be the face of the company anyway."

"Oh, so you're stepping out of high society." Clementine sneered.

Teddy scoffed in return. "You wish. Someone has to show up to Madelyn's birthday and prove you can actually live without daddy's money."

"Speaking of birthdays! Isn't yours coming up?" Clementine snickered. "Not that we would know, since you never do any big galas for your birthday."

"I wouldn't want some two-faced snakes making my day about them, now would I?" Teddy's smile didn't even falter as a man wrapped an arm around Clementine. "Oh, Jeremiah, how are you?"

"I'm well, Theodosia, thank you. This must be your husband Clem's told me about." Jeremiah reached his hand out to shake mine.

I shook his hand, with a glance at Teddy. "I guess marrying below our status is the new thing, huh? How's it been, man?"

"Well, I'm engaged now, but I'm sure Will told you. I can't believe you settled down." Jeremy laughed, turning to his fiancée. "I went to school with the Halsteads. Theodosia's a lucky woman to have Jay's heart."

"You're telling me," Teddy grinned as she took my hand.

My heart raced at her touch, and I begged myself to not blush. "Really, I'm the lucky one. Someone like her looking my way?"

Jeremy laughed, "tell me about it. I'm sure Will's happy to finally have a sister-in-law."

"I haven't heard from him since I sent him the invite to the wedding." Sensing Teddy's tension, I squeezed her hand. "But I'm sure he's excited to meet you when he comes to visit."

"Will's always wanted a sister," Jeremy told my wife. "He used to say all the time how he wished Jay was a girl so he'd have a sister."

"How cute." Clementine scoffed lightly, as it was clearly painful for her to be nice even about her fiance's friends.

"Will you be a stay-at-home dad once there's a mini you running around?" Jeremy joked.

I liked the thought, almost as much as I liked my job. "We'll see."

"We're still trying," Teddy lied through her teeth. It was a little scary how easily she could do that.

Clementine crossed her arm over her chest. "I want to go home now."

"You heard her. We should catch up for dinner one night, on me!" Jeremy waved as he jogged after Clementine.

Teddy bit her lip until they were out of earshot before laughing. "I'll never understand why he's marrying her."

"I guarantee it's not for the money. Jeremy's loaded."

"I didn't know you knew Jeremiah." She wrapped her arm around mine, as we kept walking.

"He was friends with Will when we were in school. Jeremy and I got a little close when Will moved away for college, but that sort of crashed and burned when I left for the Rangers."

Teddy rested her head on my shoulder. "I'm sure he doesn't resent you for leaving too. He's a great guy."

Jeremy and Will were closer than I ever was with Will, and while I had left as soon as I could, Jeremy was there when Mom died. Will wasn't. In a way, Jeremy was more a big brother to me than my actual brother was.

So, I was glad he and Teddy already knew each other and got along, despite the fact my wife didn't like his fiancee. Maybe I could ask him for advice on Teddy's birthday present.
