Broken Promises, Rekindled Flames
Request: Ok, we damn love hot Kelly Severide… but would we also like something angsty ? 😊
I had an idea where she’s his girlfriend, also a paramedic at 51, but someday they get in a bad fight and he saying things he immediately regrets, so she leaves his apartment without saying any more. The next day she doesn’t show up at work, which is unusual for her and neither can get you on the phone. Just then, 51 gets called to a bad looking car accident and they have to find out that was your car being recklessly destroyed and Kelly’s heart breaks as he fears you being no longer alive and he can never make it up what he said?
But of course they get a happy ending 😊
Pairings: Kelly Severide x Paramedic!Rhodes!Reader
Warnings: angst, fluff, cursing, asshole!Kelly, mentions of cheating done by Kelly but no actual cheating is done, secrets, car crash, inaccurate medical talk
Masterlist
There were some things that you had told your boyfriend of 4 years, Kelly Severide, secrets that he promised not to tell or bring up in a fight. In turn he told you secrets and you promised the same thing. You never wanted to hurt each other but he took it too far that night the day before your guy’s shift at firehouse 51. Now you were semi-conscious sitting at the bottom of a bank praying and hoping someone would come. You thought about calling your older brother, Connor Rhodes, but he was busy saving lives in the hospital.
The fight didn’t come on suddenly, no, it built up for a week before it came to light, he was coming home late and being secretive. He had his reasons and very good reasons, this reason would be because he was planning the perfect surprise proposal and that had him running around ragged and made him stressed and in turn made you stressed because you didn't know what he was up to for all you knew he could be cheating on you, you wouldn't put it past him especially with his dating history. As you sit there in your car being crushed by the collapsed metal and losing blood somewhere the fight replayed in your head and that brought tears to your eyes and they slowly ran down your face. You so desperately wanted to call Kelly and tell him you were sorry but you couldn’t find your phone and you couldn’t move. “I’m sorry.” You whispered as if he could hear you and as you started to close your eyes the fight came into view so you just watched.
*********************
The blaring alarm was what woke you up on a Thursday morning. You groggily opened your eyes and reached over to turn it off. You were at home with your boyfriend Kelly both having just come off a 3 day shift and then going back in two days usually it would be longer time off but things were different due to the holiday coming up. Once the alarm was off you turned over and brought your hand to his side expecting to find a warm toned body but instead you met cold sheets and you frowned. Now you were more awake. You got up throwing on a sweatshirt, that happened to be Kelly's, and walked out of the room and into the hallway. Soft talking could be heard and at first you thought it was TV but the more you listened the more it started to sound like Kelly and a woman? You walked into the kitchen and the floor must've creaked because he was looking up “I gotta go. I'll see you tomorrow.” He hurriedly said into the computer screen and hung up. Your heart sank, was he cheating on you? “Hey, Baby.” He said as he got up and hurriedly closed the computer. You let him hug you but you didn't return it.
“Who was that?” You asked as he released you and he walked into the kitchen to start coffee.
“Oh that was nobody important. She was just helping with something.” He said and there was that word ‘she’ unshed tears burned your eyes.
“Oh.” You said as your mind started to race.
“Want a cup?” He asked holding it out to you and you shook your head.
“No, thank you. I'm going to go for a run.” You said and turned back to head back to the bedroom to get ready. He didn't get a chance to reply, he just looked at you confused, you never refused your favorite coffee.
You got ready for your run and walked back into the kitchen and he was nowhere to be found. The computer was open and you got curious. You walked over and Skype was open so you looked at who called last. A woman's name of Contessa Wents was the last call your heart sank but it sank even more when you read the messages.
Her face is going to priceless. I can't wait to see it!
Contessa: It's going to be great! It just fills me with joy at imagining it.
You couldn't bear to read the rest. Those two messages confirmed your fear. You quickly grabbed your Bluetooth headphones and put them in and music started playing. You rushed out the door as tears started well in your eyes. Kelly had gone down to grab the mail and was making his way down the hallway to the apartment when you passed him. “Hey, enjoy your run.” He said but you just sped past him not being able to hear him but he didn't know you had headphones in. He frowned and grew concerned. Last night was great and he couldn't think of anything that would've put you in a foul mood. The Skype call didn't mean anything, it was to his friend's wife who was a jeweler and he was picking out a ring with the help of her.
You got outside and stretched and then you were taking off. As you ran tears started to fall now that you had time and space to think about it. When you got to the park you sat on a bench, you put your elbows on your knees and covered your face. How could you've been so stupid? You knew he had a past. You knew he had flings. You knew how he was. You thought he had changed but apparently not. You don't know how long you were sitting there crying until your tears ran out. You still had your music in so you didn't hear your lifelong best friend and brother walk up to you calling you until you felt him shake your shoulder and you were ripping an earbud out and looking up. “Con?” You asked sniffling eyes puffy and red tear tracks running down your cheeks.
“It's me. What's wrong?” Your older brother asked.
“I think Kelly is cheating on me.” You said and here comes a fresh round of tears.
“I'm gonna kill him.” He said and you shook your head.
“No, please don't. It may not be true but all signs are there.” You said and he sat down next to you on the bench and you leaned into him. “Why are you here anyways?” You asked.
“I was out for a walk.” He said and you nodded and sniffled. You don't know how long you sat there with your brother on the bench talking, laughing and just having a bonding moment. Soon you both had to leave. He left first and then you got up and turned to the direction of home and took off to finish your run.
When you got back into your apartment Kelly was rushing off the couch and running to you taking you in his arms and you looked at him confused. You took out your earbuds and pushed him off. “Oh thank goodness. You're home.” He said and relief was evident on his face.
“Yea, I'm home. I ran into Connor at the park. We hung out and talked.” You said “Why do you care?” You asked.
“Why do I care? I care because I love you. You were gone for 3 hrs. You're never gone that long for a run.” He said
“Sorry I was clearing my head.” You said moving to make your way into the bedroom to shower and change into some relaxing clothing for the day. You both had three days off since you had been three days on. He had followed you into the bedroom and you started to undress and you really didn't care because it's not the first time he's seen you naked.
“Is everything alright?” He asked and you wanted to scoff. How could he ask that when he knew he was cheating on you? It would be better if he just came out and said it instead of stringing you along. You need to keep calm and not escalate things until you know for sure but your minds have been made up.
“Everything is fine. I just needed to clear my head of some things.” You said and left it at that and walked into the bathroom shutting the door in his face. You turned on the water and let the tears flow. You heard his footsteps leave and the bedroom door shut and then you let out a sob. How much more of this heartbreak can you take?
When your shower was done and you had changed you felt much better. You walked into the kitchen freshly showered in jeans and your favorite shirt and hoodie. “Do you want to go out for lunch?” Kelly asked and you looked up at him.
“Sure.” You said and he smiled and came over and kissed you.
“If you're ready. I'm ready.” He said and you smiled and nodded. Maybe if you can just get the idea of him cheating out of your mind then everything will be ok.
“I'm ready.” You said smiling and he smiled back.
“There's my girl.” He said and then the two of you headed out the apartment. As you walked out of the apartment and to his Jeep. Everything that had happened this morning was pushed to the back of your mind.
“So, where are we going?” You ask, curious and feeling like your old self. Feeling back to your guy's old ways.
“It's a surprise.” He said as he opened the door and helped you in even though you didn't need it. You smiled a toothy grin and he smirked looking at you. “What?” He asked.
“Is this to our favorite spot?” You asked
“I'm not telling you.” He said “You'll find out soon.” He said and you chuckled. The Jeep ride there was smooth and easy; it wasn't filled with tension like the morning had been. You both laughed and joked with each as the music played in the background. You looked around your surroundings and they started to become familiar, well everything was familiar but this was going to your favorite deli/bakery.
“Are we going where I think we're going?” You asked but he just smiled and that gave it all away.
“You know it is.” He said and you shrieked as he pulled into the parking lot and parked the Jeep. He got out and shut the door and then came over and opened your door and helped you out. When you were on the ground he put his arm around your shoulders and pulled you into his side and you cuddled into him. It was a cold day, probably a record cold for Chicago so he was trying to keep you as warm as possible.
He led you to the table and made sure you were seated before he went up and ordered. He already knew what you wanted and that made you smile and all those thoughts of him cheating melted away. He was quick to come back with drinks and sat down in front of you. The two of you leaned close to each other laughing and having a good time together like you were two lovesick teenagers. The only time you pulled apart was when the food came and the two of you ate. Once lunch was down he was grabbing your tray while you grabbed your things and followed him to the trash. Then the two of you were headed home.
The next day you woke up to a warm arm wrapped around your middle and warm breath hitting your neck. You smiled and turned over to take in and memorize the handsome face of your boyfriend. “Staring is rude.” He said in a voice that was filled with sleep. He cracked open his eyes and you were instantly lost in the blue.
“I'm just trying to memorize the face of my handsome boyfriend.” You said
“You have everyday to memorize it.” He said, chuckling.
“You never know.” You said shrugging. He leaned up and kissed your forehead. You could lay there all day if you wanted but you needed to get things done before leaving again. Both of you laid there for another 30 minutes before you both were getting up and starting the day. The two of you decided to stay in for the day just wanting to be with each other. So you spent most of the day lounging on the couch watching cringey firefighter TV shows and eating. That quickly changed around 6 PM when his phone started ringing and as he pulled it out you caught the name on it. Contessa. Your stomach dropped and suddenly you felt nauseous. He answered it and he had the nerve to sit by you while he talked. He was smiling and chuckling and as all this went on you just seemed to get sicker and sicker. When the call was over he put his phone back and turned to you.
“I have to go. I'll be back soon.” He said and then he was getting up kissing you on the lips but you didn't kiss back. You watched him put on his shoes and coat and then he was walking out the apartment. You sat there in total silence. Too stunned to speak and afraid to move. You turned back to the show but not really paying attention to it. You don't know how long you were sitting there but your phone buzzed. You grabbed it out of the pocket of Kelly's hoodie and saw it was a text from Jay Halstead, your best friend and your brother's coworker's brother, it was a picture.
Jay Halstead: I think Kelly might be cheating on you. I just Kelly and some woman in a jewelry store. They're bent over looking at rings. They're pretty close to each other. (Picture attached)
You just stared at the picture. So it was true. Kelly was cheating on you and he was clearly serious about this woman because he was in a jewelry store with her. Tears sprang to your eyes and they started to fall. Another text from Jay popped up.
Jay Halstead: Are you ok?
You didn't know how to answer that.
Idk
Jay Halstead: Hailey and I are on our way over.
He responded back pretty quickly and true to his word there was a knock on the door and you were getting up to answer it. Hailey instantly pulled you into a hug and the tears started to fall steadily. “Oh honey.” She said
“He's really cheating on me? He's buying her a ring.” You said as they ushered you to the couch where they sat down. Hailey on the side of you and Jay sitting on the coffee table in front of you.
“We don't know that for sure. I said I think he is.” Jay said
“The evidence is pretty damning Jay.” You said as you looked at him with tears running down your cheeks.
“Let's not jump to conclusions. He may have been helping a friend with some shopping or it could've been the jeweler.” Hailey said, rubbing your arm.
“If it was the jeweler then she would be on the other side of the counter. They also wouldn't be that close either.” You said followed by a sniffle as you put your head in your hands. Hailey and Jay looked at each other because they knew you were right. The couple stayed with you for a few hours and let you rant and rave until you cried all your tears and then they were leaving after saying you would be alright on your own.
10 PM rolled around and Kelly had yet to show up and more tears fell. You both promised that the two of you wouldn't cheat or keep secrets, your last relationship ended up with him keeping a secret of him being married with kids and that he was cheating on his wife with you. He had the audacity to actually propose to you. You only found out he was married because you ran into his wife and kids at the park. You broke the engagement off right then and there. The next week he was coming to you crying saying his wife was divorcing him, which she did. You and the wife actually became friends.
6 AM rolled around when he finally showed up. You had cried yourself to sleep around 11 PM on the couch, you had to go into work at 7 AM. The shutting of the front door had woken you up and you set up. “Kels, that you?” You asked.
“Yea it's me. Sorry I'm late. I had to go and talk to Herrmann about something at the bar and got carried away.” He said shedding his coat and kicking off his shoes.
“A phone call or text would've been nice.” You said now standing up and walking over to him.
“I thought I didn't text you.” He said as he pulled his phone out but there set the text unsent. “I never pressed send. I'm sorry.” He said and looked up at you. He walked over to you and kissed you but you didn't kiss back and then the smell of perfume hit you and you grew angry. “Are you ok?” He asked. Should you say something now? Should you wait? Maybe you should wait.
“Are you cheating on me?” You asked, there it was. It was now out in the open. He looked at you with his eyebrows cocked.
“What? No! Why would you ask that?” He asked, taking a step back.
“I saw your Skype messages from Contessa and her name pop up when you got a phone call. Jay saw you and a woman, who I'm assuming is Contessa, in a jewelry store.” You said and you watched his face fall and grow pale. You pulled your phone out and showed him the picture.
“Baby, it's not what you think it is. She's married.” He said and that just added fuel to the fire.
“You're cheating on me with a married woman? You're going to marry her?” You asked in disbelief.
“What? No no no no. She was helping me find a ring.” He said but everything said was going through one ear and out the other.
“A ring for her.” You said as you pushed past him and started to pull on your shoes, coat, and grab your purse. Kelly was starting to panic.
“Where are you going?” He asked, watching you.
“I'm going to stay with my brother. I know he won't cheat on me.” You said
“For the 100th time I'm not cheating on you! But maybe now I'm thinking I should've.” He said and you froze.
“What?” You asked
“You're so fucking insecure it's overwhelming. You're not fucking listening to me. You're so damn clingy I can't even stay out late without spiraling out of control.” He said, throwing his hands up. You flinched and froze looking at him. The boyfriend before the one that was married used to be abusive to you and point out all the things that you seemed to do wrong. He didn’t really mean what he was saying but he was so mad that you weren’t listening and he was just caught up in the moment. Tears were falling down your face. “I mean come one Y/N you’re not listening to me right now. You never listen to me, you always care about yourself. Do you even care about me?” He asked.
You said nothing as you turned around and grabbed your keys to your Jeep and opened the door and slammed it shut. Kelly stood there and watched. He watched your face fall and you shrink into yourself and then he knew that he just fucked up.
“I just fucked everything up. FUCK!” He screamed and grabbed the closest thing which happened to be a picture frame of you two and threw it across the room into the wall. It shattered to the ground, broken glass everywhere. You would come back and you two would talk about everything and settle everything at least he hoped but boy how wrong he was.
**
As you got into your Jeep snow was starting to come down at a fast pace and it was covering the road and everything quickly but you didn’t even care. You hopped in and started it, the engine sputtered a couple of times but it finally turned over. Maybe your Jeep was trying to tell you something or maybe you were hoping Kelly would come out but the last hope didn’t happen as your engine turned over and it started. You quickly threw into gear and sped off your Jeep swerved but it straightened up and headed off. You were speeding but you didn’t care, you just wanted to get away from him and to your brother, you knew he would comfort you and be on your side.
You were approaching a stoplight and as you started to slow down you started to slide and your brakes were locking up and that scared the shit out of you. “No no no no. Please no.” You said to yourself you did stop but your front end was over the line. You sighed in relief but the truck behind was just a tad bit unluckier than you. They tried to stop but they ended up rear ending you hard. So hard that your head came forward and hit the steering wheel and their truck pushed you into the middle of the intersection and since you had no traction because of rapidly falling snow you slid into oncoming traffic where a car hit you straight on glass shattered and then a truck was hitting your side of the car pushing you sideways. You just happened to look at the clock and knew that Kelly would be heading into work but you just hoped that he would get to you sooner. Your Jeep started to smoke as it came to a stop but it ended up on the very edge of the road and just a push would be sending you down to the riverbank. You just had never been lucky enough to have things go your way as the snow piled on top of your Jeep it added more weight and you could feel your Jeep tipping. “I’m sorry.” You said out loud to nobody in particular but it was meant for Kelly and you were hoping he could hear it somehow as your Jeep fell. It jostled you around and glass shattered and everything cut you everywhere a particularly large piece stabbed you in the chest close to your heart and you cried out. Once the rolling stopped you were breathing ragged and you could feel the cold hitting you from the broken windows and windshield. You could feel the blood rushing out every little cut. You tried to make a quick assessment of yourself but each time you moved sent you closer to the darkness.
The engine of your Jeep was smoking more and you could smell the gasoline and just one spark could send the entire vehicle up in smoke. Right now you just wanted everything to end and give into the darkness. Part of you hoped that everything blew up and part of you didn’t. You were in so much pain that you didn’t know what to think or wanted. Breathing hurt and each breath sent you closer to the edge. When you tried to move is what finally did you in and everything turned black and you gave into the darkness.
*********************
Kelly didn’t get much sleep, too worried about you and wondering where you were. He texted Connor asking if you were there but he answered that you weren’t that sent panic down him. He may have gotten maybe 30 minutes of sleep before he was getting up and getting ready for both of your guy’s shifts. He sighed sadly when he realized you weren’t beside him, he grabbed his bag and then he grabbed your bag and he started off into work. The snow was still falling and they had yet to come and scrape the road but he knew to be careful and knew that your Jeep and his Jeep was meant for this type of weather.
When he got to the station he frowned when he didn’t see your Jeep. He knew you liked to get to work early and get some extra sleep or get breakfast in. He parked his Jeep and grabbed both bags and walked into the station. Everyone greeted him and he greeted them back and looked around for you but you were nowhere in sight. “Has Y/N come in?” He asked the closest member who happened to be your best friend, Stella Kidd.
“No, I haven't heard a word from her and haven’t seen her this morning. Tried calling her but she never picked up.” She said and he frowned and nodded and then headed to where the bunks were and put yours and his bag down on a bed. You dug through his bag and felt around until he felt the velvet box hit his fingers. He pulled it out and opened and there sat a beautiful diamond ring glistening in the light from the room.
“Where are you, Y/N/N? I’m worried about you.” He whispered to himself as he looked down at the ring with sad eyes. He stared at it until the bells were ringing for every emergency vehicle and he was hurriedly shutting it and putting it in a pocket that zipped up knowing it would be safe there. He was quick to get out and get his gear on and then to the Rescue Squad 3 truck. “What are we heading into?” He asked, trying to get into work headspace as they pulled up to the scene.
“Looks like a multi-car collision. A car was rear ended and pushed and then hit straight on. Then hit and pushed over the bank. It’s probably covered in snow by now so it'll be a search and uncover.” Joe Cruz said.
“Did they say what the other car was?” Tony Ferraris asked as he parked and turned the sirens off but not the lights.
“An olive green Jeep.” Joe said and Kelly’s heart dropped to his stomach because that was your Jeep. He hadn’t said a word as Wallace Boden gave out orders. Other stations were called in to help but Rescue Squad 3 was to work on your Jeep that had rolled down the bank. All of them along with Stella and Gabriela Dawson went with them. As they descended the bank smoke was seen and gasoline could be smelt. Despite the snow being on top of it, the snow was melting where the engine was. Kelly was in a panic as he took in the sight of your car. The Jeep was upside down on the roof, glass was everywhere and the frame was beyond recognizable.
“Shit. Let’s get her out of there carefully and do not let that glass more or lodge further.” Kelly said hoping the shakiness in his voice wasn’t noticeable to the others and either they didn’t pay attention to it or they didn’t hear but they started to get to work. As the orders were given out and they started to work on getting the snow removed and when they did they could see you laying there unconscious and barely breathing.
First they started to get the excess snow off and then Kelly was laying down to see you. He took you in and then his eyes stopped on the glass sticking out of your chest and he saw it was right next to your heart, one move or one more centimeter over and it could be in your heart. “How is she looking?” Stella asked and he shook his head and looked up at her.
“Not good. There is a piece of glass in her chest close to her heart, one jostle and it could move and go into her heart.” He said
“Fuck, alright let’s carefully get her out and to Med. We need to call her brother and let him know and warn him.” She said and not directing the last part to him more so at someone else that had come down. Kelly focused his attention on you and put two fingers on your neck and felt for anything and it took a minute and that scared him to find a pulse.
“She barely has a pulse.” Kelly shouted out.
“Ok, let’s get moving.” Stella said and that is what they did. They got the door off and then Kelly was awkwardly twisted to put the neck brace on you and not once did you move or give any sign of life.
“Don’t leave me, please.” He pleaded as they carefully got you out and on a backboard. “I need something to stabilize this glass.” He shouted and then he was being handed tape and some rolls of gauze. Everything being shouted was drowned out to him, his focus was on you.
“I’ll help.” Joe said and he nodded and moved a little so he could get in and help. “She’s going to be ok.” He said.
“I hope so.” Kelly said as they finished stabilizing the glass.
“How is she?” Boden asked after he came down to see.
“Not good.” Kelly said and he was about to say something else but you started to gurgle and blood started to sputter out of your mouth and run down the corner of it and it caught everyone’s attention.
“Move her now!” He ordered and everyone nodded and they rushed you up the hill carefully but hurriedly. When they reached the top a gurney was already there and they put you on it and rushed you to the ambulance. Kelly got in the back with you as Stella got in the front and they were off, sirens blaring.
“How close are we?” Kelly asked
“20 seconds out.” Stella said
“Damn she was close to the hospital.” Kelly murmured to himself and he helped Gabby the best he could. They finally got you hooked up to the monitor but as soon as they did you started to flatline. She was quick to awkwardly start CPR.
“Fuck.” Gabby said as they pulled into the ER section of the hospital and as the doors opened several nurses, Will Halstead, Crockett Marcel, and your brother Connor was there. Gabby started to rattled off everything that they assessed. She still was doing CPR as they rolled you in.
“Baghdad.” Is all that Maggie Lockwood said and that is where they wheeled you to and they started to work on you. Kelly had stood outside and watched and Connor wasn’t allowed to be in there since you were family.
“What the fuck did you do?” Connor asked as he turned to Kelly.
“It was a stupid fight.” Kelly whispered
“What did you say?” He asked
“I told her some things that I shouldn’t. I degraded her and made her feel small. It was my fucking fault. I wasn’t cheating on her. I was asking for help to pick out a ring for her. I was gonna have us take a couple of days off to go up to a special place and I was going to propose to her.” Kelly said and Connor was still fuming but he didn’t say anything.
“You better hope and pray that she makes it out of here alive. For your sake.” Connor said and walked away knowing he couldn’t stay there because he couldn't help and he had patients to tend to. Kelly’s focus was back on the scene in front of him. They had gotten your heart beating again but you were still in critical condition. They were quick to move you to an OR and they told him what they were doing and now he had to painfully wait to hear if you made it or not. As he was directed to the waiting room he took out the ring and opened it and stared down at it. He was so stupid for saying those things to you and now he doesn’t know if you were going to make it and that scared him.
It seemed like forever but it was only 6 hours before Connor and Marcel were walking towards him and he looked up. As he looked up he saw that the rest of the firehouse had come as well but he was too focused on the ring and you. “She’s alive but she is in critical condition. She had a collapsed lung and it was filled with blood. The piece of glass was secured but a piece did knick her heart which caused it to stop. She also had some major cuts from glass and we removed all the glass. She’s not totally in the clear but she’s stabilized as of right now. We sedated her and it may take some time for her to wake up. Months even.” Marcel said and everyone nodded and Kelly was silent. “Connor will take you to see her.” He added directing it towards Kelly and he nodded and started to follow Connor to your room.
“She’s going to pull through.” Connor said as they both stopped at your room. “She’s a strong woman and she loves you too much to leave you.” He added and Kelly nodded and then he was leaving as he gave Kelly a pat on the shoulder. Kelly just stood there too scared that if he moved then you would be gone. Finally he moved into the room he walked in and sat down on one of the uncomfortable plastic blue chairs.
“I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have said any of those things because I don’t even mean them or think that. Please don’t leave me. I wasn’t cheating. I was getting help to pick out a ring for you. I want to marry you and start a family with you. I want everything with you. Please, please come back to me. I love you.” He said
Seconds passed and nothing happened. Minutes passed and the same thing. Hours and nothing changed. Hours turned into days. Days turned into weeks. Weeks turned into months. You have yet to wake up. It was a serious crash and they had to sedate you to let everything heal. Kelly didn’t want you to leave you one second but he was forced to. Each free second he had he was back with you.
2 months passed and you finally started to show signs of waking up. Kelly had just gotten there when the machine started to go off and nurses, Marcel, and your brother ran to your room. He arrived there to see you awake and looking around confused and talking to your brother and everyone else and then you spotted him and smiled and that made his heart skip a beat. Once everything was settled and everyone was out of the way besides Connor he walked in. “Kels.” You whispered and he smiled.
“I’ll give you some time alone. I’m so glad you’re awake sis. You made us worried.” Connor said as he patted your knee and leaned up and kissed your forehead and then left. As he walked past Kelly he stopped and Kelly looked at him. “Tell her and ask her.” He said and Kelly knew what he was talking about. He walked out and now it was just you and Kelly.
“I’m sorry.” You both began and you both chuckled but you winced and as he tried to help you waved him off.
“Can I go first?” Kelly asked and you nodded. “I’m sorry for making you think I was cheating on you. I would never in a million years cheat on you. I was getting help from a friend’s wife to pick out a ring for you. I want everything with you. I want kids with you. I want to grow old with you. I didn’t mean anything I said to you and I don’t think any of it. I would never cause harm to you. I’m so sorry. I love you. Please forgive me.” He said and you smiled and nodded.
“I forgive you. Now it’s my turn. Hopefully I can get everything out before I run out of breath.” You said taking a breath “I'm sorry for not trusting you. It’s just when you started to say those things it just brought me back to previous relationships. I know you didn’t mean any of those things and I know you would never hurt me.” You said running out of breath and you paused and took some breaths and continued. “I want everything with you too. I love you, Kels. I love you so much. I’m sorry that I thought you were cheating on me. Can you forgive me?” You asked.
“I will always forgive you.” He said
“You have a ring?” You asked and he smiled and pulled it out and you took it.
“This is not how I wanted to propose but I can’t go another minute without you being my soon to be wife. So Y/N Rhodes will you do me the honor of making me the happiest man on earth and marry me?” He asked and tears ran down your cheeks as you nodded and you smiled.
“A thousand times yes. I want everything with you.” You said and he took the box and took the ring out and slid it on your finger. He leaned up and kissed you and then hugged you.
“Thank you for coming back to me.” He whispered and you smiled and hugged him back with what strength you had.
“I will always come back to you. I never want to leave you again.” You said
“I love you.” He said
“I love you too.” You replied as Connor came into the room and saw the scene and the two of you pulled away.
“I take it you took my advice and asked her.” He said, smiling smugly. You then showed him the ring “Congratulations you two.” He said as he took your hand to look at your ring.
“Thank you.” You both said. He stayed for a few minutes and the three of you talked and laughed and then he was being called away. Now it was just you and Kelly. As the two of you sat there together talking about anything and everything you couldn’t wait to start your life with him. This is what you both wanted. You both couldn’t wait to get started on the rest of your lives together.

Unexpected
Warnings: Mentions of pregnancy and childbirth
Summary: For nine months, you'd prepared and expected a baby but something unexpected happens.
A/N: Hello! I was back at school this week and have been so drained from the work load so I'm here relaxing and writing away. I only know surface level stuff so I'm sorry for any medical inaccuracies. Exams are next week so I won't be writing anything then. This is unedited and I apologise but please do enjoy!!!!
Four years into your marriage with Kelly, two years with infertility issues, you had come to the point of acceptance and making the possible choice of fostering or adoption.
But then one day you got shot at work and when treating you, the doctor gave you the unexpected news.
You couldn't believe it. You were finally pregnant. After so much struggle, IVF and the unsuccessful tests, you were finally pregnant. You could finally have the family you dreamed of having as a little girl.
You weren't allowed back onto the field. Hank benching you to desk work till your baby welcomed itself. A choice that made you very angsty to get up and be on the move.
You didn't feel like much of a detective being sat at a desk all day while the rest of Intelligence went running around ragged looking and catching bad guys.
So during the moments of peace, you found yourself driving to the firehouse to bother your husband and the people he considered family.
The men and women of 51 loved you as much as they did Kelly, you were one of their own and you were doing the impossible by growing and delivering a mini Kelly Severide into the world.
Kelly rolled his eyes every time you brought up the gender. Call it mothers intuition but you had a gut feeling that you were having a boy, a concept which Kelly didn't mind but thought otherwise.
Refusing to find out the gender, you preferred to watch everyone wait impatiently, their bets pilling up as they put money on your baby's gender.
You scoffed seeing Kim and Hailey 'sneakily' pass money over to Cruz one night at Molly's.
The pregnancy flew by. Small milestones of your belly popping, the first kicks, the weird cravings and watching the growing blob develop on an ultrasound was so surreal but before anyone knew it, you were already hitting the nine month mark.
You left early. Today's case was running late and another murder got called it close to midnight, you were no longer needed and your husband sat at home. The thought of foot massage was ever so enticing.
Said man welcomed you home with the tea that soothed your nausea, your nightly snack at the go and he looked just delicious sitting in his pyjamas.
Pregnancy hormones man. Who would've thought.
And just like every night, the day ended with both of you in bed, his hands gently caressing your ballooning stomach, talking and debriefing with your unborn baby, smiling when a particular comment elicited a kick, showing the imprint on a foot against your skin.
Falling asleep wasn't easy though, especially with the new addition of Braxton hicks. You always found yourself tossing and turning, pushing Kelly to the other side of the bed so you could be left alone with the other love of your life: your pregnancy pillow. The triangular pillow a dream come true.
Eventually, you got up to refill your bottle and water, taking a quick pee because the pressure on your bladder was stupid.
Taking out some ice cubes from the ice tray, you slowly plonked them into your bottle, your eyes heavy with the sleep that refused to come from such a long day at work.
"Baby? Why are you awake?" Kelly's voice was hoarse as he appeared in the kitchen, his hair a mess as he rubbed the sleep away from his eyes.
"Your son is playing football in here. He's already obsessed." You whispered back, letting him recollect himself as he made his way towards you, watching through bleary eyes as you closed the freezer door.
"My son huh? Well I think our daughter is just really excited to meet her very impatient parents." Kelly smirked, his arms circling around your waist before he crouched down to be face level with your protruding stomach.
"Hey baby girl." He whispered, his eyes focused on your stomach and nowhere else. "Your mummy is very tired after working all day. She needs all the sleep before you come home. Do you think you could do me a favour?"
You smiled softly at the sight. Your husband was already smitten and the baby wasn't even here yet.
A few seconds passed and all of a sudden, the little football match came to an end.
You scoffed, looking down at your husband incredulously. "Wow."
Standing back up, Kelly now smiled down at you. "Obviously, I'm the favourite parent."
"Watch it lieutenant." You pouted, poking his chest. "I've got some detectives in my back pocket."
Smiling at each other, basking in the silence and warm lighting, you almost forgot about your sleep deprivation.
Breaking you out of your thoughts was the sound of water dripping, Kelly's face mirroring your thoughts.
"Did you leave the tap on?"
You frowned, you were sure you-
Your mind went blank the millisecond you registered your wet trousers.
Looking down at where your feet would've been had it not been for your stomach being in the way, you swore lightly under your breath.
"I think he interpreted your words differently." You said, looking back up at Kelly who stood astonished.
"Baby's coming today."
*****
You didn't go to the hospital straight away.
Instead, you wiped yourself down and changed clothes while Kelly cleaned up and brought out your already packed hospital bag all while timing the length and time between your contractions.
The sun was rising when you made your way to the hospital, your midwife already in the loop the moment your water broke.
Settling into your room, dressed in your gown, you sighed.
You were bored. What were you supposed to do while you waited for the birth to get into motion.
Your epidural had been confirmed and scheduled for later on when your contractions progressed further. The nurse had just come to measure you before leaving.
You sent a quick text to Hank, apologising for such short notice, saying your maternity leave would start earlier than planned. Kelly had just called Boden, his shift starting not too long ago.
"Boden's got Cruz covering for me." Kelly said, putting his phone in his pocket as he stood by your bedside.
"I'm all yours for the next few weeks."
"I would love you so much if you could just-" You sharply inhaled at the painful contraction, doing the breathing exercises you practised with your midwife. "Just get this baby out."
"How about we go on a walk? Might help speed things up."
All Kelly was met with were your grabby hands.
*****
Several hours later and you were in active labour.
You were surrounded by nurses and the doctor, Kelly glued to your side but at some point when you were pushing, he was ushered away by a nurse who you briefly heard mention the words 'umbilical cord'.
"It's a girl!"
You choked back a sob, your eyes watery as they placed your daughter on your chest for skin-to-skin. Your hands immediately flew to hold her. Your emotions so haywire that you couldn't care less about the cleanliness of her little body.
Inhaling shakily, you looked up through tears at Kelly who was back at your side. He kissed your forehead multiple times, his hand on top of yours so you could both hold your baby.
After a few minutes, she was carefully taken away to be weighed and clean, leaving you and Kelly to revel alone. Reality came crashing down: you had a daughter, your had a-
"Mrs Severide, what's wrong?"
Hearing the doctors question, Kelly looked away from your daughter and back down at you in alarm, his eyes wide in confusion at your own confused face.
"I- I feel..."
You weren't able to finish as you were overcome with the sudden need to push.
It seemed that even without you voicing your thoughts, they knew exactly what was happening.
"Okay Y/N, we go again." The OB said as you squeezed the blood out of Kelly's hand. "Push just like you did."
The next few moments felt like a blur. You weren't too sure what was reality and what was an illusion - everything was happening too fast for you to comprehend what was actually happening.
All of a sudden, a second cry broke out, as loud and high-pitched as the first.
"It's a girl!"
You blinked, your head clearing up.
"Congratulations! Two beautiful girls!"
Then the apparent second baby was placed on your chest, a routine that was just performed not even ten minutes ago.
The tears were flowing now with nothing to stop them. Your shaky hands went to hold her small body as the clouds dissipated and the sky finally cleared.
*****
The two baby beds were rolled towards your bed, Kelly standing up when the nurses entered the recovery room.
"Congratulations mum and dad!" One of the nurses started.
"You have two healthy identical twin girls."
You couldn't believe it, no one could.
There was never a point during the nine months of pregnancy that would even suggest you having twins and now all of a sudden, your leaving the hospital with two twin girls.
You were so lost in your thoughts that you didn't hear Kelly's conversation with the nurses.
"Kelly..." You looked at your husband who was just as shocked as you. "Kelly we have two babies."
"We have twin girls babe." Kelly emphasised, his stupid smile covering his entire face.
"We're not even prepared for one let alone two." You said, sitting up to pick one of them up. "Baby- oh my gosh, we have twins."
Before Kelly could reply, the room door opened and Matt poked his head in. "Knock Knock, can we-"
Matt stopped himself as he laid eyes on the baby on your chest and then the baby that was being picked up by Kelly.
"Matt, move out the way, let me see-" Sylvie barely stopped herself from squealing as she saw the two babies.
"Holy shit, twins?!" Matt half frowned, following Sylvie to your side. "When did this even happen?"
"Literally an hour ago man." Kelly said in greeting to his best friend. "No one had any idea."
"AH- two girls! Congratulations, oh my gosh I'm so happy for you guys." Sylvie gushed, cooing at the little bundles in your arms.
"Oh yeah, Jay and Hailey were somewhere behind us."
Another knock sounded just as the words came from Matt, the door creaking open for the blonde detective to make herself known.
"Y/N, hey-" Hailey gasped so loudly that Jay's swearing could be heard from inside the room.
"Woah." Jay's lack of words proved his surprise.
You and Kelly laughed.
"Well Kelly was right, they're girls."
Jay and Sylvie high-fived, their smirks making it evident they were on the winning side of the bet.
"This is definitely unexpected. I have no idea how we're going to manage." You said, handing one baby off to Hailey while Kelly lay the other into Matt's outstretched arms.
"That's what we're here for, along with the rest of 51 and Intelligence." Sylvie said, looking fondly at the baby in Matt's arms as she held your hand in both of hers comfortingly.
"You've got a very big family ready to help. We're first responders, it's our job."
You hugged the blonde, overcome with sudden emotion.
"Besides," Jay spoke up, gently taking the baby from Hailey's arms into his. "What godparents would we be?"
The room dissolved into laughter.
You had two adorable girls and an entire village at your beck and call. While unexpected, they were more than welcome with open arms and open hearts.

"So I'm cleared?" You asked, sitting up on the table.
"Yes Mrs Severide, you may now return to full workouts, sexual activity and carrying more than 20 pounds. Take it slow, if anything is painful or feels out of the ordinary, please give us a call," Dr Calhoun replied, "how does that make you feel? Mentally?"
"Honestly, a little nervous."
"Why?"
"What if something happens?"
"From everything that I have checked, there is no need for concern. If something happens, we're only a call away. If its after hours, head to Med and have them page me. If there's something wrong, and I don’t think there is, but if something happens, we will take care of it. There's no need to worry."
"Okay. So I'm really good to go?"
"Absolutely. My last word of advice because I've been doing this for a while and I now have two of my own, use a good lube or try it in the shower for the first few times. It makes all the difference."
You chuckled, "Thank you Doctor Calhoun, for eveything."
"If you ever decide to have more children or need a GYN, give me a call."
Dr Calhoun left the room and you collected yourself and Alexis to leave your final OB appointment for the foreseeable future.
After arriving back at your car, you placed Alexis' carseat in the base and called Kelly.
"Hey, how'd it go?" Kelly eagerly answered your call.
"Good, all cleared and good to go. You home from shift yet?"
"Just leaving 51. Meet you at home?”
"Sounds good, see you soon. Love you."
"Love you too."
—
“Kelly, you here?" You heard rustling in the bedroom.
“Yeah, hold on.”
The rustling continued.
“What are you doing?” You laughed.
“Found it,” he exited your bedroom holding a box.
He followed you to the couch, a now sleeping baby nestled in the crook of your arm.
“Whatcha got there?”
“Katie sent us some stuff from New York for Alexis.”
“Katie working today? We should FaceTime her to open it.”
“How long has Alexis been asleep?”
“Almost an hour. I fed her before my appointment and she slept the whole time.”
“How lucky are we that she’s a damn good sleeper?”
“So lucky.”
He looked at the unopened USPS box on the coffee table.
“So calling Katie?”
“Let’s do it, I’ll see if Alexis wakes up when I pick her up.”
You picked Alexis up as Kelly started the FaceTime call to his sister. Alexis awoke, but was her usual calm self as soon as she opened her eyes.
“Hi Alexis!!” Katie smiled as she answered the FaceTime call.
You took Alexis’ arm in your hand and gave Katie a little wave.
“We wanted to wait to open the package until we were with you, but I guess FaceTime will have to do,” Kelly laughed.
“Actually, let’s wait to do it until I’m there.”
“How long will that be?”
“About 30 seconds,” she giggled, knocking on your apartment door.
Kelly practically ran to open the door and hug her.
“How long has it been?” He chuckled.
“Too long,” she smiled, hugging him back.
You invited Katie in and spent the rest of the day hanging out and catching up, before finally opening the package. It was filled with NYC and Manhattan-related gifts along with a white envelope on the bottom.
“What’s in there?” You asked, curiously.
“Open it,” she smiled.
“Tickets to the Blackhawks game?” Kelly was giddy, he was so excited.
“They’re for tonight, I’ll babysit. You guys have fun,” Katie grinned.
“Katie, I- I- I don’t know what to say,” you started to tear up.
“Don’t say anything, I’m happy to do it. I’m gonna go check into my hotel and I’ll be back in time for you guys to get to the game.”
—
“Kelly are you ready?” You called into the bedroom while bopping Alexis.
“Yup, I’ll be right there.”
He walked out of the bedroom with his Blackhawks jersey in hand, wearing one of those undershirts you couldn’t help but fall in love with.
“You gonna carry that at the game too?” You giggled.
“Don’t want Alexis to spit up on it. Put it on when we leave,” he laughed, taking your daughter from your arms.
“Katie will be here in like 30 minutes. I gotta curl my hair and do my makeup and get changed.”
“Already found something for you to wear,” he smirked, “it’s on the bed.”
You walked in to the bedroom to find your Jonathan Toews jersey and your favourite pair of jeans on the bed.
"How did you know?" you laughed.
"What can I say? I know you well, babe."
You changed quickly and fixed up your curls.
"Katie's here," Kelly called.
"Be right there."
Quickly, you threw on some mascara and lip gloss before going to the living room.
"You look good babe," Kelly smiled, handing Alexis off to Katie.
You leaned over and kissed him, feeling a little more like you wanted to stay in rather than go out.
"There's, uh, breast milk in the fridge, her schedule is on the counter. Um, Sylvie's number is on the fridge in case there's any, uh, problems," your mind distracted from the kiss, you couldn’t help but giggle.
"We'll be fine. You guys have fun," Katie smiled.
You gave Alexis a hug and a kiss on the cheek, "good night baby, mommy loves you so much."
"Good night Alexis, daddy loves you to the moon and back."
Watching Kelly love Alexis was something that made you fall in love with him more and more. Having a stable husband with whom you shared a child with was something you dreamt of since high school.
Kelly grabbed his jersey and followed you out the door.
--
Walking out of the United Center back to Kelly's car, you were exilerated, but exhasted. The Blackhawks had just snapped their 5 game losing streak, and won with a 4-0 shoutout. That was the perfect end to your first night out after becoming parents.
"How you feeling?" Kelly asked, "you up for Molly's or are you done for the night?"
You stopped at the car, leaning into Kelly for a kiss, "What about something else?" you smiled.
"You up for that? You just got cleared today," he asked, kissing your neck. He knew you wouldn't say anything unless you were ready.
"Bassinet is finally in Alexis' room. Seems like a great time to test things out again."
"You look so good tonight baby, we'll do whatever you want," he smiled as he went back in for another kiss.
The traffic home was a nightmare, but by the time you got to the apartment, you were ready for anything.
"We're home," you smiled, opening the apartment door.
Katie was asleep on the couch, but woke at the sound of your shoes coming through the door.
"How'd it go?" You asked, going to check the baby monitor.
"Been up every 3 hours since you guys left, but she just went down about a half hour ago if you guys want to get some sleep," she yawned, packing up her purse.
“You need a ride to the hotel?” Kelly asked.
“I have an uber a few minutes away, but thank you.”
“I have another day before I’m back on shift, wanna meet up and do something tomorrow?”
“That sounds great, I’ll text you guys when I’m ready for the day.”
You and Kelly both hugged Katie before seeing her out of the apartment. You watched her get on the elevator and then locked the door behind you as you entered the apartment.
“Shower or bed?” You laughed, pulling him closer for a kiss by the collar on his jersey.
“Whatever you want baby,” he chuckled, pulling your jersey off, “it’s your night.”
You grabbed Kelly by the hand and led him into the master en suite. The bathroom door clicked shut and Alexis started to cry.
“Shit,” you started to laugh, resting your head on his chest.
“I’ll get her, put her back down. I’ll met you in there in a few.”
Kelly left the bathroom for the nursery and you started the water. Throwing your clothes on the counter, your hand brushed by your scar. Healed up and mostly pain free, it was still a reminder of what had to be done to bring Alexis into the world. You stepped in the shower, wincing at the feel of the water being a tad too cold, and turned the temperature to more suit the steamy theme of the evening. Kelly returned, already having left his jersey in the other room.
“How’s the baby?” You asked.
“Good, pacifier fell out of her mouth.” He mindlessly undid his jeans and removed the tank covering his chest. He looked back towards the shower.
“Damn, you’re-“ he was almost breathless. The two of you had been intimate all throughout your pregnancy, but the morning sickness wasn’t as attractive as you naked in the shower.
“You gonna join me?” You didn’t have to ask twice, he was gonna obey the first time.
He finished undressing and practically leapt into the shower. With a flick of the wrist, he tipped your chin up to make eye contact with him. Backing you in the shower’s wall, he placed his other hand on the tile for support. He leaned in and the passionate kisses began shortly after.

A/N: Here's pt. 2 to Going to War!
Looking for more? Chicago Fire Collection Masterlist
Word count: 2.4k
Warnings: cannon typical depictions of fires/accidents and injuries, medical inaccuracies?
“Pop tried to play the hero. He forgot he was in his 60s with a bum ticker,” Jay huffs. “Yeah, well. This is your fault to begin with. Stick me in that fire trap,” Pat Halstead coughed. “Pop, stop talking,” Will tells him. “You said you liked the place,” Jay reminded him as he pushed Will and the Nurse away, insisting he didn’t need this. “Paramedics said you were complaining of chest pain. Did you forget you had a quadruple bypass a few weeks ago? Come on, stay still,” Will huffs. “Hey, if it isn't my favorite patient. How you doing, Mr. Halstead?,” Connor greets. “Fine,” the older man grumbles. “So you felt some tightness in your chest, huh?” Conner asks. “It's nothing.” Jay gives him a look. “Well, you might be right. I don't see any ST elevation or depression. No left access deviation. Looks like a strong and healthy heart to me.” Pat sighs. “Oh good. Are we done?” he asks. “Nope, not yet. You still have a pretty nasty inhalation injury. Can I get a CBC, CMP, and a carboxyhemoglobin? And add a full cardiac workup,” Rhodes tells the nurse. “Dr. Rhodes, you’re needed for a consultation,” Maggie pops in and tells him. “Yeah. Mr. Halstead, a pleasure as always,” Rhodes tells him before leaving. Will stops him for a moment, “Thank you, Connor.” Connor nods before heading to his consult. “I don't need all this,” Pat huffs again. “Calm down, you're getting yourself worked up,” Jay tells him. “What do you know? You're no doctor,” Pat grumbles. “Pop,” Will warns. “Forget it,” Jay tells him, turning away for a moment. “You had no right to sell my house,” he shouts. “You want to talk about this again? It was a wreck. You couldn't take care of the place,” Jay tells him. “You just wanted my money,” Pat throws at him. “Hey,” Will tries to intervene. “You don't have any money, you thankless old prick,” Jay says before walking out.
“Hey, how are you guys doing?” Maggie asks the 4 firefighters standing just outside Dani’s room. “Choi kicked us out,” Kelly tells her. “Yeah, he needs room to work, Kelly. Try to be patient,” Maggie sighs before moving on. Kelly watches as Choi and the nurses move around Dani, tears lined his eyes again but he didn’t allow them to fall. “Get her on the vent and make sure she's 100% oxygenated,” Choi tells April. “Right,” she responds, beginning to prep things when Dani starts sputtering and coughing, trying to sit up. “She's waking up. Push 4 milligrams of midazolam,” Choi orders. “Whoa, easy, easy. Easy, easy. All right. - Easy, Dani,” the nurses and Choi try to soothe her. “BP and heart rate are stable. She's settling down,” April tells him. “Draw a blood gas with carboxyhemoglobin,” Choi tells them before stepping back and discarding his gloves. “Hey... what's happening?” Kelly asks as Choi steps out into the hallway. “Her vitals are holding, but she's in pretty bad shape. We're running some tests and should know more soon,” Choi tells those gathered outside her room. An alarm begins going off in her room. “Blood pressure and sats are dropping,” April calls out and Choi rushes back in, accessing her. “All right, she's bleeding in her airway. Hang a unit on the rapid transfuser, suction her ET tube, and get a chest X-ray,” Choi orders. “Blood's coming too fast. Every time I suction the tube, it fills back up again,” April sighs. “Hang another unit and just do your best to keep up,” Choi tells April. “Where’s the X-Ray?” Rhodes asks, walking in. “Here you go,” A nurse told him as soon as they had taken the image. “She's got a massive hemorrhage in her right lung. It's impossible to say where it's coming from. All right, call the blood bank, trigger the MTP,” Rhodes orders. “Can you find it?” Kelly asks, looking from Dani to Dr. Rhodes. “First I've gotta find it. Let's set up for a bronchoscopy, someone fill in the Halstead brothers please.”
“Jay!” Matt calls out when he finds the detective. “Casey?” Jay asks, turning around. “Is Dani ok?” Matt shakes his head, walking up to him as Jay furrows his brow. “What’s happened?” he asks. “She ran out of air, she had a pulse but wasn't breathing, they had to intubate her, she’s down in the ER with Choi and Rhodes,” Matt tells him. Jay’s breath hitched. “Does Will know?” Jay asks. “Someone should be telling him as we speak,” Matt reassures him. “What are we standing around here for? Let’s go,” Jay tells him and the two of them take off for the emergency room.
“She's lost a significant amount of blood. Unfortunately, the only way we can be sure to completely stop her bleeding is to remove her entire lung,” Rhodes tells him. “What?” Kelly asks. “Kelly, it's the best chance we have of saving Dani's life,” Choi tells him. “She can't be a firefighter if she only has one lung. There's gotta be something else you can do. April?” Kelly asks his friend. “What if we tried Ekmo? It would rest her lung so we have enough time to locate the bleed…” April trailed off. “No. We'd have to give her anticoagulants to keep the lines open,” Rhodes tells her. “Isn’t it worth the shot?” April asks. “It would make her bleed even worse. She's too unstable,” Choi tells them. “Believe me, Kelly, this is the best course of action,” Rhodes tells him. “Sounds to me like you've thrown in the towel before you even tried to save her lung. Being a firefighter is the only thing Dani cares about. I'm not gonna let you do it,” Kelly shakes his head. “I'm sorry. But it's not up to you,” Choi tells him. Will and Jay come quickly around the corner with Matt and Stella. “What’s going on?” Will asks. “She’s losing blood from a massive hemorrhage in her right lung. The only way we can be sure to completely stop her bleeding is to remove her entire lung, but of course the ultimate decision is yielded to the family,” Rhodes tells him. Will looks at Jay who looks lost and unsure. “She can't be a firefighter if she only has one lung,” Kelly tells them, practically pleading with them to tell them to do it some other way. Will looks at Dani laying on the bed, intubated with machines hooked up in the trauma bay. “Do whatever you have to to save her life, but if you can, save the lung,” Will tells him. “Get her upstairs,” Rhodes tells them quickly before starting to walk away.
Kelly sent Will a grateful look before walking off with the other firefighters. “Dr. Halstead, Mr. Halstead, there was a problem with your father,” a nurse comes up to them. As if the day couldn’t get any worse for the Halstead family. “How long before sinus rhythm was restored?” Will asked. “He was down for around five minutes,” the nurse who had helped with the code tells him. “Well, that's consistent with what I'm seeing. Almost no EEG waveforms,” Dr. Abrams speaks up. “Are we not seeing some brain activity?” Jay asks, wiping a hand down his face. “Artifacts. Distortion, interference. Dust on the window,” Abrams tells him. “Okay, I am... I'm not following,” Jay tells him. “Your father's brain-dead,” Abrams tells him simply. “So he's just not coming back? Like, you... you're saying that there's... there's no chance?” Jay asks. “If I had to calculate the odds, I'd say 1,000 to 1 against. This vent could be put to better use,” Abrams says, turning to Will. “Are you serious?” Jay asks. “Jay-” Will tries to calm him. “The hell is wrong with you, man? Are you kidding me?” Jay asks. “We'll talk about it. Thanks, Sam,” Will says with a firm nod. Abrams narrows his eyes and nods before leaving.
“I don't like that guy, man. I want a second opinion,” Jay tells Will when they were out in a hallway. “He's our top neurosurgeon,” Will counters. “So all your degrees, all that money, all those years in school, this is the best you can do?” Jay nearly shouts. “Jay, Dad almost died two years ago. He's been living on borrowed time,” Will tries to reason with him. “Abrams didn't say Dad had no chance,” Jay huffs. “1,000 to 1 is no chance. I'm trying to be realistic. I've seen a lot of patients in his condition,” Will tells him. “There goes that doctor's voice,” Jay says sarcastically, throwing his hands up in surrender. “I'm sorry, but I am a doctor,” Will tells him, crossing his arms. “Yeah, don't worry, we got that message,” Jay scoffed. “And Dad knew you thought you were better than us. We always came in second, you weren't there, and now you want to decide what happens?” Will runs a hand through his hair. “That is not true, Jay, you know-” he starts to tell him. “There you are,” a woman comes up to them. Will sighs and turns to her. “Ms. Garrett, this is my brother, Jay,” Will introduces. “Yes. I'm the hospital's COO. I heard about your father. I'm very sorry,” she tells them. “I want you both to know that there's no hurry in making any decisions about Mr. Halstead. You have the full support of this hospital. And we will provide your father with any and all resources,” she tells them. “I appreciate that,” Will tells her. “We take care of our own. This... is my cell phone. You call me if you need anything,” she tells Jay, handing him her card before walking away. “It's decided. We're not giving up. I’m going to go see if there’s any news on Dani,” Jay stated with a finality before walking away.
“Dani’s still in surgery last I checked,” Jay says as Will first walks into the room, not even looking up from their father’s face. He had come straight back after he hadn't been told of any updates to Dani's condition. Will decided to file that information away for now, focusing on this and the information he had just learned. “Hey, Jay. We gotta take Dad off the vent.” This causes Jay to look at him. “No, no, no. He… I've been sitting with him, and he blinks his eyes. And I grabbed his hand, and he squeezed my hand. He squeezed my hand.” Will looked at his younger brother with sympathy. “Those are just reflexes. They don't mean anything,” Will tells him softly. “I'm telling you, man, he knows that I'm here,” Jay insists looking back at their dad. “He doesn't. He can't,” Will places a hand on his shoulder. “We can't. He's… He's gotta come back, man, 'cause... that can't be the last conversation I ever have with him,” Jay tells him, wiping his eyes. “Look, whatever regrets you have, you're not gonna resolve them here. You just gotta accept that.” Jay glares at Will. “Don't tell me what I got to accept.” Will was trying his best to keep it together. “Jay, the reason Gwen encouraged us to take our time with Dad? His bypass was 29 days ago. If he dies before 30 days are up, regardless of why, it's a fatality for the hospital. So Gwen's just trying to keep Dad alive for one more day so the hospital doesn't take the hit,” he explains. “I get it. You feel betrayed but I don't care. I care about Dad,” Jay tells him. “And you think he'd want to be kept alive to buff some numbers?” Will asks. “You need to get out. You gotta get out, man,” Jay shouts. “They're using him,” Will tells him calmly as he steps back towards the door. “That's your problem,” Jay seethes with anger. “Jay, he's gone,” Will finishes before leaving.
“You guys put me in a terrible position. But... we were able to isolate the bleed, and we only had to take out a portion of her lung. It was a thoracoscopic procedure, minimally invasive. That's all to say that... she should be back to work in no time,” Rhodes tells the firefighters from Truck 81 gathered in one of the waiting rooms. “Oh, thank God. Dr. Rhodes... you're the man,” Herrmann tells him, shaking his hand. “Yeah, you guys are okay too,” he chuckles before turning to April, “Go find Kelly, let him know, I’m heading for Will and Jay.” April nods before walking off. Matt shakes Connor’s hand with a firm nod before heading down the hallway with Sylvie, Stella and Herrmann to go tell Boden and the others.
“Kelly. She's awake. Wants to see you,” April calls into one of the various waiting rooms. Kelly let out a sigh of relief, thanking whatever higher power that she made it through ok. April nodded her head to the door, silently telling him ‘let’s go’ and he stands, following after her. He stops for a moment in the doorway, simply taking her in. Dani turned her head and looked at him, she was a little groggy but she smiled. Kelly smiled too, moving to her bedside and leaning over to press a kiss to her forehead. He pulled a chair closer and sat down, taking her hand in his and squeezing it. “I’m so glad you made it,” he tells her. “Of course, I’m always going to come back to you,” she tells him quietly, her throat still a little bit sore. “Come here,” she tells him, and he leans over, laying his head in the crook of her arm to which she wraps around his head and plays with the short ends of his hair, pressing a kiss of her own to his head. Kelly shudders a little and Dani knows he’s probably crying again so she continues playing with his hair and holding him the best she could.

you had always wanted kids. there was no doubt about it. but every guy you had been with never wanted kids and they didn’t make that known till a year after you two were dating. that is, until matt and kelly came into your life.
when you three got married (you all became casey-severide), you agreed that you wouldn’t start trying for kids until at least a year into your marriage so you could enjoy married life. on your one year anniversary, while you were having a nice dinner at your house, the topic of kids came up and you said you had gotten your iud out and the minute they heard that, dinner was abandoned and kelly threw you over his shoulder and they took you upstairs.
once upstairs, you were tossed onto the bed. and matt spoke up
“are you ready for us to make you a mommy?”
“yes. i can’t wait to make you daddies”
the whole night was filled with profanities, screams, moans, and praise

Firefighter Next Door
Reader knocks on Kelly's door when she needs help.
WC: 1000 give or take
A/N: the ending blows. Sorry. {shrug}
Releasing your grip on the towel around your finger, you knocked rapidly on the door. “Please be home,” you mumbled to yourself, resuming your grip on your injured finger.
Just as you were about to retreat back to your apartment, the door cracked open. You tried to wave awkwardly with both hands. “Hi.”
“Uh, hi,” he greets, clearly surprised to have company.
You tried to smile but it felt forced. “Um, so, I cut my finger. It was bleeding a lot and I think it needs stitches but I can't drive and keep it from bleeding everywhere. I don't think a finger warrants calling 9-1-1 but I’m also new in town and don't really have a friend, or anyone, I can call. Maybe it's not actually that bad. I'm a little squeamish and honestly I thought I was gonna pass out from the blood on my counter. Sorry, I'm totally rambling. Um, I shouldn't have come. Maybe I should just–”
“Okay. Take a breath.” He pushed open the door further.
You stop talking as he interrupts. “Yeah, sorry. I'll just go.”
“No.” He drops a hand on your forearm to stop you from turning away. “You picked the right door. I'm a firefighter. I can help but you need to take a deep breath before you pass out. You're hyperventilating.”
“Oh.” You manage to take a couple deep breaths and suddenly you feel a bit calmer.
“Good. Come in,” he shifts to give you room to pass. He leads you into the kitchen. “Grab a seat. I'll grab my first aid kit.”
You sat as he instructed. Then you decided to check if your finger was still bleeding. As soon as you unwrapped it, you were overcome with dizziness and nausea. You swayed on the chair and grasped the table with your good hand in an attempt to stay upright.
“Woah, easy.” He gently grabbed your shoulders, helping you stay seated. He slid his right hand down to your wrist and pressed his index and middle fingers into the pulse point there. He seemed satisfied as he pulled his hands away and started to open the first aid kit. “Let me take a look.”
“I'm Y/N, by the way. I'm really sorry to bother you so early.”
“Kelly,” he smiled. “It's no problem. Feel free to come knock on my door any time. For the record though, cutting yourself and not being able to drive yourself to the ER is a completely warranted reason to call 9-1-1. It's what it’s there for.”
“Just what I need. Call 9-1-1 to have someone come out on a band-aid for me,” you chuckled.
“Actually this is pretty deep. You're going to need stitches. I'll clean and bandage it for you. Then you can drive.”
“Oh, uh, okay…” you tried to take another deep, calming breath. “T-thanks.”
“Or if you would rather, I can drive you,” he offered.
You tried to hide the relief you felt. But guilt stopped you from accepting. “No. It– it's okay. I can't ask that.”
His eyes scanned over you, carefully assessing. “You didn't ask. I offered. Honestly, on second thought, you look a little pale. Please, let me take you.”
This time you sighed in relief. “Okay. Thank you.”
“Did you rinse this under water?”
You shook your head. “No. I just grabbed a paper towel to stop the bleeding.”
“That's okay.” He stood and grabbed your elbow. “Come here. Let's rinse it before I wrap it.” He steadied you as you stood and kept his hand on your arm as he led you to the sink.
You tried to continue taking deep breaths as he turned the water on. Kelly met your eyes and you realized you'd been staring.
“Just keep looking at me. Don't look at your hand and it'll be over before you know it.”
You nodded and kept your eyes locked on his shoulder as he shifted his focus back to your hand.
A minute later, Kelly had sat you back down on the stool and was patting your finger dry with some gauze. Then he wrapped it carefully.
“Thanks,” you smiled at him.
He squeezed your forearm lightly. “No problem. Do you need to grab anything before we go?”
“Yeah.” You nodded. “I need my purse and to lock my apartment.”
He grabbed his keys. “Do you need help or should I wait in the hall?”
Standing, you waited to see if you got dizzy. When you didn't, you followed him to the door. “I don't need help but you can come in.” You walked across the hall and pushed your door open. You headed to the couch to grab your purse. When you turned around you caught sight of the blood on the kitchen counter and had to fight back nausea.
“Woah.” Kelly was at your side before you knew what happened. “Just breathe.”
You closed your eyes and took a couple deep breaths. Opening your eyes, you realized you were leaning against Kelly. “I'm good. I think.”
“Anything else you need to grab?” he asked.
“Uh, just the jacket by the door.”
“Okay. Close your eyes.” You did as he asked and he led you to the door. “Open.”
When you opened the coat rack was right in front of you. You chuckled. “Thanks.” Grabbing the zip up hoodie, you walked back into the hall. Kelly pulled the door closed and moved so you could lock it.
Walking down to his car, his hand never left your lower back. It seemed he wasn't sure you wouldn't fall over left to your own devices. He led you to the passenger door and pulled it open for you then closed it once you were inside.
“You moved in almost a month ago, right?” he asked as he backed out of the parking spot.
“Yeah. I actually tried to come over and introduce myself once but no one answered the door.”
He nodded. “Sorry about that. I could have been at work.”
“How long have you been a firefighter?”
He flashed you a cocky smirk. “Since the day I was born.”
“Wow.” You couldn't help but to laugh. “Smooth.”
“Are you new to Chicago or just to the building?” He asked changing the subject.
“Just the building,” you explained. “I was born and raised here. My old building got bought out by some corporation that's building new luxury condos.”
You talked for a couple more minutes and then Kelly was pulling into a visitor parking lot.
“You can just drop me off at the door.”
Kelly raised an eyebrow. “Then how are you gonna get home?” He was already out and moving to open your door before you could answer.
“Uh, I can call an Uber.” You felt your cheeks heat with a blush. “Which I'm just now realizing that I could have done that to get here rather than intruding on your morning.”
He took your hand and helped you out of his car. “I really don't mind. Besides, Ubers generally don't appreciate gushing wounds.”
You swallowed hard against the lump in your throat at his words and shuddered. “I don't appreciate that either.”
He chuckled. “Sorry.”
He led you into the ED and stayed with you for the entire two hours you spent waiting and getting stitched up. He even held you hand while Dr. Halstead had been working on your hand.

Casual (k.s.)
Fandom/Characters: Chicago Fire - Kelly Severide x Fem!Reader, Matt Casey
Word Count: 2.6k
Summary: Agreeing to a friends with benefits deal with Kelly Severide to blow of some steam after shifts seemed like a great idea in the beginning. What happens when one of you starts to catch feelings?
Warnings: 18+ (no actual smut written but don't read if implication of it makes you uncofmy) - slight ooc kelly? hurt/comfort, mention of child death, fires, angst, pet names, fluff, implied smut, cursing, mention of sex, drinking, arguments, kissing, happy ending
a/n: i’ve been a matt girl since the moment i started watching chicago fire but recently i’ve been obsessed with kelly so this fic is a result of said obsession! also this was a bit rushed so ignore that lol but it was kinda inspired by the song casual by chappell roan so if you want, give it a listen while reading :) oh by the way the gif??? it’s gonna be the end of me- my god. anyways, enjoy <3
You were at Molly’s, nursing your third glass of wine for the night, hoping to forget about the terrible shift you just had.
It wasn’t supposed to be this way. It was supposed to be a quick in and out, but the universe had different plans. Thinking back, you start wondering what had gone wrong.
Truck and Ambo were called to a small fire at a local café. At first, it seemed like a minor incident, just burnt toast that had accidentally caught fire. What you hadn't realized, though, was that one of the stoves had been left on accidentally, causing gas to slowly leak out.
Upon arrival, your Lieutenant, Matt Casey, instructed Otis and you to escort everyone from the sitting area. Fortunately, there were only a few customers that day, making your job easier.
As you began ushering everyone out, a mother approached you and expressed concern that her six-year-old daughter was still inside. You asked Otis to stay with her before assuring her that you would locate her daughter.
Once the building was evacuated and Herrmann was preparing to hose down the kitchen, you radioed in about the missing girl and announced that you were going back inside to find her. Casey advised you to hurry up before the situation escalated making you nod and rush in.
Heading back in, you immediately began searching for the little girl. You called out to her, but there was no response. After checking the bathroom, you noticed her unconscious form lying under the sink. Your heart sank. You quickly checked her pulse and realized how faint it was. You removed your mask and placed it on her, hoping it would help her breathe. Once the mask was on, you swiftly picked her up and hurried towards the exit.
Passing by the kitchen, you didn't notice how the stove was on. You should have. You don't know how you didn't. It was your job to notice these things but you were in such a rush that it slipped your eye. The realization only dawned on you when you heard Herrmann yelling for everyone to exit the area because of leaking gas and by then, the explosion had already occurred.
The impact sent you stumbling backward, causing you to tumble to the ground with the girl in your arms. Casey’s voice crackled through the radio, but the ringing in your ears muffled the words. You couldn't seem to stop coughing and your head was throbbing making your vision start to blur. You felt yourself succumbing to the darkness, but you fought to regain your composure and struggled to stand up.
Once the initial shock had worn off, you quickly got up and made it to the exit, disregarding your injuries, only concerned about passing the girl off to Gabby and Shay. They tried their best, you know they did, but the girl was dead before you even got to them. The explosion had killed her. The explosion you should have seen coming.
That six-year-old girl passed away, and it was all your fault.
You were snapped out of your thoughts when you heard the sound of your name. It was Kelly, the Lieutenant of Rescue Squad 3, and one of your closest friends, whom you were currently sleeping with.
A few months ago, after a particularly difficult shift, Severide and you had accidentally ended up spending the night together. Since then, you two agreed to keep it casual— no strings attached, friends with benefits, if you will. Both of you promised to break it off if one of you started to catch feelings and that seemed reasonable to you.
“Rough day?” He asked taking a seat on the barstool beside you.
“Six-year-old kid died in my arms, so I'd say so.” You say looking down at your glass, twirling the liquid around mindlessly.
“Wanna talk about?”
“Nope, but I do want to get out of here. Your place? It’s closer.” You glanced at him, and he caught on to what you meant in an instant; you needed to let out your frustrations.
He nodded as you downed the rest of your wine and you two headed back to his apartment without any further questions.
You woke up the next day with an arm draped over your torso. You didn’t think much of it until you realized whose arm it was.
Shit.
You had never stayed over. You guys had never spent the night together to keep the feelings at bay. This was uncharted territory. So to say this was going to be awkward would be an understatement.
You attempted to quietly pull his arm away without waking him, but as soon as you made contact, you noticed him starting to stir.
“Good morning baby,” he voiced, groggily.
“Morning Kell,” You replied, blushing at the unexpected name.
“How are you feeling?” He asked, referencing the reason you were at the bar in the first place.
“Better.” You replied as you turned to face him. “Thank you.”
He didn't say anything, instead simply pulling you in for a quick kiss, letting you know he was there for you.
After pulling away, you decided it was time to get up. Popping the little bubblle you were in and ending the moment you shared.
“I'm gonna get dressed and head out, I didn't mean to stay over- just got carried away. I know we don't do that so I'll leave, sorry.”
“Y/N wait up-” He says, catching your attention.
“Yeah?” You turn around to look at him.
“I don't mind that you stayed, I know you had a tough day yesterday so it's fine. Make yourself at home sweetheart.”
The nickname caught you off guard once more. It wasn't unusual for him to shower you with praise and call you these names during sex. But afterwards? He'd never spoken to you that way and the sudden change was putting your heart in a whirl.
You sighed trying to regain your composure. “Yep, thanks. I'll uhh… I’ll see you at shift.” You brushed him off, smiling.
Since that day, the dynamic between you two has shifted noticeably. Others at the firehouse have started to take note of it as well. He's become more attentive. Making sure he has a meal saved for you when you're too busy to eat, accompanying you home from Molly's when you've had a few drinks, and checking in on you after difficult calls.
It wasn't just him, though. You’ve been overly caring with him too, more than a friend should be. When he discovered he had a half-sister, you stood by him. You supported him in reaching out to her. And when she was going through a rough patch after her kidnapping? You were the one on the phone talking her down when she made the decision to move to Colorado.
After all your help, his mother even invited you to her house as a token of gratitude. You never intended to become so involved with him and his family, it changed how you saw him.
You heard the rumors, you knew he was a player— a womanizer who didn't care about anything except his pleasure. But witnessing his interactions with his family alongside the kindness he's been treating you with recently? It was coming to be harder and harder to view him as selfish and uncaring.
The line between friends and lovers was becoming increasingly blurry. Yet you were still trying your hardest to avoid the development of feelings because you knew once you crossed that threshold, there was no going back.
You were walking towards the kitchen when you caught Casey and Severide engaging in conversation by the coffee pot.
You didn't mean to eavesdrop but hearing your name leave Matt’s lips made you stop dead in your tracks.
“What's going on between you and her?” He asked.
“Nothing. It’s all casual. She's nothing more than a friend, Case. We're not together.” Kelly replied, a little too firmly.
Ouch.
You knew nothing was going on between the two of you but hearing that coming from him? It hurt more than you'd like to admit.
You imagined sharing an apartment, perhaps a year or so from now and spending the coming years wrapped in each other's arms, building a family. You chuckled to yourself at the fact that you even thought that was a possibility at some point. Realizing now how naive it was to believe he would ever view you as anything more than a fuckbuddy. Oh, how you loved being stupid.
You spent the rest of the shift avoiding him. It wasn't fair to him; after all, he didn't know you had overheard. Your feelings were your problem, and it wasn't right to act as though he were responsible. Yet, facing him felt impossible without making a fool of yourself.
You found yourself at Molly’s again. Downing shot after shot. You knew you were way past your limit but the lack of Kelly Severide-related thoughts in your brain was encouraging you to continue.
It had gotten to the point where you noticed Herrmann giving you shots of water instead but you were too far gone to care.
You were about to request another real shot when you felt a presence next to you. You turned your head to the side and saw the one person you were trying to forget about.
Lieutenant Kelly Severide.
“You've been avoiding me.” He said, less of a question and more of a statement, keeping his eyes on you.
You hated how small he made you feel, like he could read you in just one glance. His intense gaze made you look away before trying to find Herrmann. “I have not. Now excuse me, I was about to order another drink.”
“You don't need another one.” He said, grabbing your shoulders and turning you back around to face him.
“What are you? My boyfriend? We’re just friends Severide, you don't get to make that decision for me.” You wouldn't have usually been that snarky but the alcohol in your system was giving you courage you didn't know you had.
He was taken aback by your response, you were never like this with him. It was worrying him.
He tried to help you stand up, “Y/N c’mon let's get you home.”
You reluctantly agreed. You knew you were going to regret this in the morning but at the moment, you didn't care. He started walking you towards the exit when you pulled yourself away from him and spoke up, “I don't need a babysitter. I can walk by myself.”
“If you actually think I'm letting you walk home, drunk and alone at this time of night, then you're crazy.” He replied casually while walking beside you.
You stopped abruptly and sighed, looking down. “Why do you do that?”
“Do what?” He questioned, placing his finger under your chin bringing your face up to meet his.
“Why do you act like you care?” You clarified, holding his stare, pretending his touch wasn't erupting fireworks in your stomach.
“I do care! I care more about you than you realize Y/N.” He said a bit too loudly, raising his hands in exaggeration.
“You're not supposed to!” You shouted back.
“Why not? Is it such a crime to care about my friend?” He replied, exasperated and upset.
There it was. The dreaded ‘friend.’ You knew it was coming. So why did it still shock you?
“I- I can't do this Kelly- I'll just call a cab to take me home, you don't need to walk me. Forget anything happened.” You said turning around, ignoring his objections, calling your name.
You spent your days off moping around. Kelly had called you multiple times and left countless messages, but you couldn't bring yourself to respond. You knew you were being childish, but it didn't matter. The thought of going back to work and having to face him filled you with dread but that was a problem for later. Right now, you have errands to run.
While you were getting dressed, you absentmindedly opened the drawer meant for Kelly. You couldn't avoid him, he seemed to be everywhere you looked. Your phone, your workplace, and now, your dresser.
You sighed. The fact that you two had separate drawers designated for one another at each other's homes, slipping your mind completely. Is that something friends with benefits did? Did they keep clothes at the other’s place to ‘make it easier for them to get dressed?’
Your thoughts were cut short when you heard a knock at your door. You weren't expecting anyone but opened the door regardless not guessing who you’d see on the other side.
You found yourself face-to-face with none other than the man who had been plaguing your thoughts nonstop. However, after avoiding him for so long, you didn't know what to say or how to act. You felt like you’d never been in such close proximity with him before, it was suffocating. So you simply stood there until he eventually spoke.
“We need to talk.” He stated simply.
“What's there to talk about?” You asked, avoiding his eyes.
“This. Us.” He said, motioning between the two of you.
You finally took a good look at him, you noticed the heavy bags under his eyes and the weary slump of his shoulders. It was clear that he was utterly exhausted, as if he hadn't slept at all in the last few days. And the simple thought of the reason for his exhaustion being you, made you feel terrible.
“Severide-” You couldn’t let this drag on for any longer without hating yourself, so you took a deep breath and continued, “I think we should end this arrangement that we have.”
“What?” He furrowed his brows.
“We agreed that once one of us starts catching feelings, we'd end it. So let's end it before it gets messy and hurts either of us more than it should.” You tried closing the door once you were done speaking but he quickly squeezed himself in, preventing your attempts at pushing him away.
“What are you doing?” You asked following him into your apartment.
“That's not fair!” He exclaims, “You don't get to ignore me for days and then just end our relationship and shut me out.”
“This was hardly a relationship.” You scoff, “But, what did you want me to do Kelly!?” You matched his volume, watching as he paced in the middle of your living room.
“I don't know, maybe talk to me about how you're feeling!” He said, tone dripping with sarcasm while glaring at you. If looks could kill, you'd be six feet under right about now.
“Oh, that's really mature coming from you! Mr. Expert at communication.” You replied with just as much pettiness as you could muster, stepping closer to him to prove a point.
He stood silent for a moment before taking a deep breath and approaching you, “Maybe you're right, maybe we do need to end this thing we have. I just thought we cared about us enough to at least talk it out.”
The two of you now stood face to face, your breaths labored and eyes locked in an unbreakable gaze. Silence enveloped the space between you, the tension so thick that it felt tangible like it could be sliced through with a knife.
“I’m sorry.” You said quietly. “I shouldn't have ignored you and I also shouldn't have just sprung that on you.”
Once you noticed he was letting you continue, you went on, “I just realized that I couldn't be as ‘casual’ about our relationship as you are anymore. I tried to hold my tongue and ignore the feelings I have for you, but it was getting harder Kelly. Nothing about our deal has been casual for weeks now and it was starting to affect me.” You finally let out.
He took in your words, shaking his head. “It hasn't been casual for me either Y/N. I love you, and have for a very long time.”
The force of his words hit you like a physical blow. Love? How did he claim to love you when he had not only never hinted at such feelings before but also dismissed Casey when he asked about it? You were confused and it was evident on your face with the way you looked at him, shell-shocked.
“You love me? But you told Casey that there was nothing going on between us and-”
You were quickly cut off by his hands on your face, pulling you in. The intensity of his lips against yours short-circuited your entire being. It took a moment for your brain to register what was happening, but soon you found yourself reciprocating his kiss.
While you and he had shared kisses in the past, this one was different. It wasn't hurried like your usual kisses but instead filled with a deep sense of passion, tender and slow, and brimming with love and adoration for one another.
He placed his hands gently on your waist, drawing you closer, deepening the kiss. You raised your arms, threading your fingers through his hair, feeling the slight tug as you did. It was as if your lips were pulled together by an irresistible force, making it difficult to part.
You wanted time to freeze in that beautiful moment so you could stay in it forever. You wished to remain embraced by him indefinitely. His touch was tender and affectionate, brimming with care. It felt as though both of you had shed all your worries and were completely immersed in the love surrounding you.
You tentatively ended the kiss and gazed into his eyes, which stemmed a love you had never felt from him before. For the first time, they didn't overwhelm you or make you feel small; instead, they enveloped you in a sense of comfort. And in that fleeting beat, his eyes spoke volumes even when his words remained silent.
“I love you too.” You said, sharing his sentiment, causing a grin to emit on both of your faces.
You felt like a teenager who was experiencing love for the first ever time; and you wouldn't want it any other way.

Hi! Would you please write one with Matt/Kelly/Jay x reader where the reader is walking home or something and gets attacked. Roughed up a bit maybe a concussion and like a dislocated shoulder... but she manages to get away before anything too bad happens and just runs on instinct to 51. Kelly and Matt all worried and trying to comfort her but she’s in shock. Sylvie and Violet take care of her and take her to med. Jay meets them there. Maybe with worried brother-in-law Will and a Connor appearance?
Messed with the wrong one- Matt, Kelly, and Jay
Warnings: attack briefly described, vomiting, possibly wrong medical jargon

You have always been decently independent, which is something that your boys love and hate at the same time. You enjoy doing the grocery shopping and often find yourself walking the short distance to the small neighborhood market around the corner from your shared home. Today was no different.
It was late in the afternoon. The sun was just starting to set and you were happily enjoying watching the beautiful colors change in the sky. Jay was still at work, you having been able to leave early since you finished your paper work, but Jay still had a few files left to tidy up. Your errands could have waited, but you had the time now. So, while Matt, Kelly, and Jay were all still at work, you planned on getting a head start on dinner.
You were two blocks from the market when you felt four hands grab you and drag you into a nearby ally. All your training kicked in and you fought back as hard as you could. All you could think about was getting home to your boys. You kicked and punched, having to drag yourself off the ground twice. The second time you found yourself on the ground, your head also found purchase on a brick wall. You quickly shook it off and stood, laying one guy out and dodging the other, bolting down the ally and running as fast as you could. You didn’t dare look back.
Next thing you know, you are running through the bay doors of 51 and Kelly is snatching you up in his arms. You are violently shaking, blood tricking down your neck and face. You don’t respond when Kelly talks to you, given the fact that you can’t hear him over the ringing in your ears. You notice blurred figures run past you and out of the bay doors, others running out of the firehouse to see what the commotion is all about. Matt comes to your side, but you flinch and scream when he touches you.
“Shhh. It’s okay. It’s okay. It’s just Matt.” Kelly whispers, rocking you back and forth in his arms. He isn’t sure you hear him, but you relax as you bury your face into his neck and breath in his familiar scent.
Matt doesn’t attempt to touch you again. Not yet anyways, but he thinks he understands why you screamed now. Your left arm is cradled between you and Kelly protectively, leading Matt to believe that your hurt. “Kelly. She’s hurt pretty bad.” Matt whispers, walking around you slowly to examine you with only his eyes.
Kelly nods. “I know. I know baby. Let’s sit down, yeah?” Kelly says, acknowledging Matt and guiding you to sit in his chair at the squad table.
Brett and Violet are standing at the ambo with the doors open. They are both assessing you from afar until Matt and Kelly can get you focused or give them permission to approach. Brett can tell you are slipping into shock, but she doesn’t want to make things worse, so she waits.
It doesn’t take long after Kelly gets you sitting down. His hands pushing your shoulders to lower you down has you screaming in pain. Matt steps aside and waves the medics over, allowing Kelly to keep a hold on you since he got to you first.
“Y/n? It’s Sylvie Brett. Can you hear me?” Brett asks, crouching down to find your tear filled eyes. When you nod, Brett smiles warmly at you. “Good. Good. Can you tell me what hurts?” Brett asks, not yet laying a hand on you.
You gently run your right hand over your collar bone and then touch the back of your head. When your hand comes away with blood, you start shaking harder and hyperventilating. You didn’t feel that.
“Hey. Hey. Baby. It’s okay.” Kelly soothes, taking your hands in his. He carefully wipes them off with a towel that Violet offers as Brett stands to examine your head wound.
“Pretty deep.” Brett comments. At this point, you have lost most of the color in your face and are sweating pretty heavily. Brett can tell, without checking your vitals, that the shock is fully setting in. “Kelly. Get her loaded up. Violet, run inside and tell Boden what’s going on then drive us to med. Matt, call med and have them set up a trauma room and have x ray and CT ready upon arrival.” Brett instructs, putting her feelings as your friend aside to get you help quickly.
Everyone jumps to their tasks. Kelly scoops you up and apologizes as you cry out in pain from the movement. Brett gets in the ambo and immediately pulls out some pain killers and an Iv tray for you. She hands Kelly a towel to keep pressure on your head wound as she hooks you up. You barely flinch as the Iv is stuck in your hand, but begin to calm slightly as the meds take over.
When you stop whimpering, Brett moves to check your chest. “Y/n. I gotta look, okay? No pressing. I promise. Just gotta make sure that everything is still relatively where it’s suppose to be.” Brett said, not wanting to scare you with the fact that your bone could potentially be out of your skin or at an alarming angle or something.
You nodded, leaning your head further into Kelly’s hold as Matt finally jumped in and the ambo began moving. You groaned as the movement caused nausea to spike as your head swam. “Mmmm.” You ground out, trying to breath through the nausea.
“What’s wrong hunny?” Brett asked, pulling back from looking at your collarbone, which seemed to be in place, to look at your face. You had gone pale once again, your face scrunched up as you shakily brought a hand to your mouth. “Okay. Hang on.” Brett said, pushing Kelly forward to lean over and grab a sick bag for you. Matt immediately took it and held it under your chin so that Brett could keep examining you.
“M-Matt.” You gasped, clutching onto his wrist when he came into view. It was like you were just processing that he was even around at all.
“Shhhh. I’m here baby. Kelly and I are here.” Matt soothed, using his free hand to wipe tears from your face. “We are almost to med. We gotcha now.” Matt murmured, hating to see the pain and fear in your eyes. He wanted nothing more than to find whoever did this to you and lay into them, but you were his first priority.
Matt’s thought process was cut short when you heaved, flying forward with a scream of pain at the end of it. Kelly stood, holding your forehead in one hand and the cloth to the back of your head with his other hand. Matt held the bag around your mouth, holding one of Kelly’s arms to stop from trying to steady you or put his hand in the wrong place and hurt you more instead o comforting you.
“Brett. You gotta do something.” Kelly said, trying not to burst into tears as you threw up, screaming when you had enough air. You were shaking violently again, the pain and the vomiting causing your body to go into overdrive.
“Kelly. I can’t. We are two minutes out. I gave her enough to take the edge off, but they gotta assess her before she gets anything else on board.” Brett tried to reason, wiping tears from her own face as she attached wires to you to check your vitals. “I’m so sorry Y/n. I’m so sorry. We are getting you to med.” Brett whispered, her heart aching as she watched her friend get sick and scream while her other friends desperately tried to help.
As soon as the ambo got to Med, Conner Rhoads, Maggie, and your brother in law, Will Halstead, were pulling open the doors. Will stood slightly away, knowing he couldn’t treat you, but he also couldn’t leave you and the boys until Jay got there. Luckily, Jay had been notified by Will when he found out, so he knew his brother would be there soon.
“What do we got?” Conner asked, helping Brett get the stretcher out of the ambo as Kelly kept up, one hand still holding the cloth to your head while the other held the bag Matt had to secure it under your chin as you gagged.
“Deep head lac and suspected broken collar bone. The vomiting started about 4 minutes ago. GCS 6, 140/97, pulse 120, O2 95 on room air.” Brett spout out. “Iv in the field. Left hand. Administered 5 of Morphine to take the edge off.” Brett said, getting your sheets in her hands.
“Okay.” Conner said, “On my count. 1, 2, 3.” Conner counted, then helped transfer you onto the hospital bed. You screamed out again as they moved you, then proceeded to pass out. “She’s out. Elevate her feet. Tip the bed.” Conner instructed, following your head down as you were moved. He checked your pupils and palpitated your collarbone while you were out. “I can feel some inflammation around her collar bone on the left side. Most likely broken, but still in place. She also has a minor concussion. I’m gonna have them do an xray and CT just to make sure on both.” Conner said, standing and looking at the monitor. “Maggie, put her on 5ML of oxygen. Her stats are dropping some. Probably from the pain. Let’s go ahead with another 15 of morphine and some Zofran too.” Conner said, typing it all up pretty quickly.
You began to stir as Kelly pushed some fly away back. Conner was quick to get to you, repositioning the bed to a more comfortable position and checked your head lac. Your eyes fluttered open just as Conner was stepping back.
“Welcome back.” Connor said with a smile. “Your gonna be okay. We need to run some tests, but I think that you’ll only need a few stitches and all you’ll need is a sling to stabilize that arm while your collar bone heals.” Conner supplied, smiling as he heard Matt, Kelly, and Will sigh in relief.
You nodded, then winced. “Hurts.” You whispered, throat raw from throwing up.
Conner nodded and moved aside for Maggie. “Mags is gonna give you more morphine and some Zofran. Sound good?” Conner asked, searching your face for confirmation. When you you gave a shaky thumbs up, he smiled. “Good, I’ll check back in a bit.” Just as Conner was leaving, Jay skidded to a stop as he came barreling through the door, almost hitting Conner in his haste to get to you.
“Baby girl.” Jay breathed, patting Conner on the shoulder and going around him to get to you. He was sweating, eyes wild as he searched your body for injuries, hands and bottom lip shaking.
“J-Jay.” You immediately sobbed out. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.” You wailed, covering your face with your right hand.
Jay shook his head as he laid a hand on your leg. “Shhh. No baby. No. It’s okay. It’s not your fault sweet girl.” Jay soothed, rubbing your leg over the blanket. “We got them. Voight and Antonio have them. Your safe.” Jay soothed, smiling sadly at you.
“She was so smart and so brave. She ran straight into the bay doors of the fire house.” Kelly praised, kissing your forehead.
“You know your always safe with us.” Matt said, rubbing one of your feet over the blanket.
“I-I didn’t even think. I j-just ran.” You sniffed, wiping your face with the back of your arm. “I just thought a-about you guys. I-I needed to get h-home to you guys.” You murmured, tears streaking down your face again as the horrors of the event began to creep into your head.
“You’ll be home tonight sweet girl. Until then, we are here.” Jay soothed, moving forward as Maggie walked out, kissing your forehead gently. “You did so good Angel.”
“I’m home here with you guys. Wherever you are is home.” You whispered, finally relaxing as the drugs numbed the pain and the nausea. You were exhausted and you knew your boys would keep you safe, so you allowed your eyes to slip closed.

Hi
My requets is date night at a Blackhawks game with Jay Halstead where he proposes and they have the wedding at molly's where kelly severide is jay best man en Sylvie brett is yn maid of honor and they have a lovely wedding with a cake that is half coverd in a Police badge and a fire figther badge
With alot of fluff thank you
Molly's Wedding Celebration
FireFighters and Police Officers don’t have it easy. With the difficult situations, long hours and difficulty making relationships last. It all just comes with the job we've signed up for. The one thing that currently came with the job is that we all got a second family.
“So how's the future soon to be Mrs. Halstead?” Brett came over to me while we were getting ready at Will's apartment near Molly's.
Tucking hair behind my ear I chuckled with a bright smile. “I still can't believe he proposed to me at a Blackhawks game of all places.”
“You know you loved it. You've watched the video like ten times in the past two weeks.”
Whipping our heads around we both saw my soon to be husband Jay Halstead leaning in the doorway of the apartment with his arms crossed over his chest. “Jay!” I shrieked overjoyed to see him about to run up to him until Brett jumped in between us.
“What are you doing here? You can't be here. It's bad luck to see the bride before the wedding!”
Jay shakes his head dangling a key in his fingers. “I have my brother’s spare key. Severide only took my car keys. So he doesn't know about this.”
“Well you don't get to keep them. Now get out of here.” Brett stomped forward, snatching the key from his fingers.
I gently grabbed her arm trying to stop her. “Brett, don't. He's okay.”
“But he's not supposed to see you-”
Jay raised his hands up slightly in surrender, shifting his gaze briefly over in my direction. “Technically we aren't doing an official formal wedding. So it shouldn’t be a big deal, Sylvie.”
“He’s right, Syl.” I touched her arm glancing towards the clock on the wall seeing it was almost time when we would be heading over to the bar everyone loved. I was wearing a knee length white dress, my light brown cowgirl boots and my hair was curled on the ends. “We're not doing an official ceremony. Speaking of, I think it’s time we make this happen, don't you say Jay?”
My fiancé smirked, holding his hand out for me to take. “Let's do this, Y/n.”
Jay and I headed over with Brett who held open the door letting us inside the local bar first before she ran over to her spit at the end of the bar that we had our own little ulter built at. Jay dropped his hand from mine going to stand up beside Kelly Severide who had been named his best man since we had allowed his brother Will to officiate the ceremony.
My father moved through the crowd of people offering me his arm once he had reached my side. “Your mother and I wouldn’t have minded to pay for a wedding venue but I must say this feels much closer than that probably would have felt.”
“Molly’s is home for me and Jay. It’s the first place we actually met. So it wouldn’t feel truly us if it was done anywhere else in Chicago.”
My father kissed the crown of my head before we paused at the edge of the stage. “Treat her well, Halstead or I’ll come after you.”
“I’ll treat her right, sir.” Jay held out his hand with my father placing my hand in his.
Stepping up onto the wooden stage with our hands intertwined together we kept our eyes focused on one another. Will came up to us smirking his dorky grin while shifting his gaze from me to his brother before he started performing the ceremony. “Growing up I always thought that I would be the one to get married first, but now I couldn’t be happier to see my little brother to be tying the knot. Y.n, you clearly love my brother enough to become his wife. You have the passion as we all do in this room and you both bring out the best in one another. So can I get the rings to marry these two?’
“We’ve got them.” Brett and Severide each held up one wedding ring, one for me and one for Jay handing them to the older Halstaed brother.
Will each handed us a ring shifting his focus onto me first. “Y/n, do you take this man to be your husband?”
“I do.”
He eyed his brother. “Jay, do you take this woman to be your wife?”
“I do.”
Will put a hand on each of our shoulders letting us slip the rings on the other hand. “I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.” Jay takes a step towards me cupping my face in his hands, deeply kissing me.
Wrapping my arms around his neck I deepened the already passionate kiss that he had started. Shortly afterwards we heard loud cheers and clapping from everyone in the crowd telling us that we needed to break the long kiss. Shifting my gaze over to the bar we saw Hermin and Gabby coming out of the back room carrying the wedding cake we had ordered. The cake had been designed to be half police badges and the other half was fireman badges.
“Wow. It turned out awesome.” I gasped in shock walking up to once they had sat it down on the main bar table letting everyone gather around.
Casey came through the crowd holding up my fireman jacket for me to see. “I figured you’d want your new last name on your uniform now.” The jacket was somewhat cleaned and Jay’s last name was now stitched on the back in big yellow letters in the spot where my last name had previously been.
“Thank you, Matt.” I slipped it on over my dress, sending Gabby a smirk since she was holding my bouquet of flowers. “Gabby, let’s do the toss now.”
She handed me my bouquet and dragged Brett over into the crowd with her and all the other single ladies. For a while most of us in both departments have been seeing the connection forming between Brett and Casey so now was the perfect time for them to finally tie the knot after so many years of working together. Turning around I gently tossed it up in the air and the bouquet appeared to be going into Gabby’s hands until she ducked down. “You’re the next Firehouse girl to get married, Sylivie Brett!” I squealed before the flowers got dropped into my maid of honor's hands.
“How long have you been planning for me and Casey to get married, Y.n?” She chuckled with Casey wrapping his arm around her waist.
Jay comes to stand beside me, sending the couple a smirk. “Basically since I asked this one to marry me.”
“Alright everyone, the first round of drinks are on me!” Severide announced to everyone and we all cheered overjoyed to know that everything we had planned had turned out as we wanted it to. Molly’s represented the same thing as our wedding cake did. That all first responders and medical professionals of Chicago have all become a large and loving family.

"What are you doing here? It isn't safe!"
With Chicago Fire?❤️
The silence of the derelict building had since been broken only by the moving of burnt furniture and blackened bits of ceiling as you cautiously picked your way through what had been the kitchen before five hours ago.
You bent over your target in the middle of the room and silence reigned once more. Then, naturally:
“Y/N? That you?”
Your refusal to turn at your brother’s voice—though you were so engrossed in whatever you were doing that it was possible you hadn’t even heard him—prompted both Matt and Kelly to exchange looks of confusion and slight concern. It wasn’t often they found Casey Jr. in beaten down houses, despite their job.
Glancing around the room, mentally mapping the likelihood of it caving in around them, Kelly took a few steps forward, Matt following behind. “Y/N, what’re you doing here?” he asked gently, though urgency reared its head all the same. “It isn’t safe.”
It was then that you stood, your mind set. “It’s arson.”
The men stopped. Casey dipped his head a little, an eyebrow raising. “What?”
You turned. The resolution was clear on your face, a determination to get your point, whatever it was, across. “It was arson,” you repeated.
There was a moment of processing. You were a young woman now, accepted into the fire academy and due to start your training as soon as your college exams were done, but you had been part of the firehouse and the institution as a whole your entire life. You’d grown up with Matt as your guardian and the members of 51 your multiple aunts and uncles. If anyone was going to have mountains of fire knowledge, it was the girl who’d been raised by firemen.
Though, if your words were anything to go by, it seemed your few visits to OFI headquarters with Kelly over the years had rubbed off on you the most.
The potential seriousness of the situation setting in, Kelly hurried his steps. “Show us,” he said.
You immediately knelt to the ground, resuming your previous position as Kelly shone his torch where you were pointing. You stretched your hand out and waved it over the ground. “Here. It looks like someone was trying to rub the trail from the ground but it’s obviously still there. It’s—looks like accelerant.” You pointed at a bar stool, its three remaining legs deformed and black. “That was pretty conveniently placed on top of it, too.” You shook your head and bit the inside of your cheek, staring at the dim line leading from the middle of the room towards the stove by the wall. You knew what you were seeing. It all added up.
Matt leant forward to peer closer, brows furrowing in concentration. “She’s not wrong,” he said eventually, brushing flakes of ash away from the trail to see the small grooves in the floorboards, careful not to ruin potential evidence. “See here...these scratch marks look purposeful. A nail?”
Kelly shook his head. “Could be anything.”
“Not much else to think otherwise.” Matt fixed his eyes back on you. “What else you got?”
You rose your fist to your mouth, your confidence momentarily slacking. “Just hunches,” you admitted, “but you’ve always taught me to trust those.” You sat back and glanced between the two. “The family said they didn’t know what happened, right? The wife was cooking, left it for a moment, and it just caught fire.”
“That’s what he said,” Casey said, referring to the husband.
“He. Right. He was wearing gloves when you brought him out. I saw. He wouldn’t take them off and he wouldn’t let the meds take them off. Said it was cold and he was fine, they should be paying more attention to his wife.” 51 had found over the years there were multiple benefits to your placement as Boden’s shadow. You saw things others didn’t; that was your job, after all. Stand back and observe. Watch how they worked. Learn from the best, so when the Academy finally called you up, you’d be the best.
The earlier fire hadn’t been overtly suspicious at all. Apart from the gloves, and the way the man had reacted, everything was pure gut feeling. The house hadn’t been far from the station so you’d walked there the moment you could, eager to quench the inkling that something wasn’t right. It’d often been joked at that you were a Severide clone, not just in your mannerisms, which was no surprise considering the lieutenant’s influential hand in raising you, but also your affinity for fire investigation. It certainly wasn’t the first time you’d aided the OFI, and it would undoubtedly not be your last.
Kelly stood to his feet and shone the torch throughout the rest of the room. “He was wearing gloves at the hospital,” he said.
“You saw him at the hospital?” you asked.
Matt rubbed his palm across his forehead and leant his arms on his knees. “We went to check on the wife. That’s why we’re here. To find some family photograph the guy ran back inside to find after overhaul. Don’t even know how he got there, honestly.” He hummed absently and gazed back at the trail. “I guess he could have come back to rub the trail out. Used the photograph as a ruse.”
Kelly turned back with a frown. “He did make a lot of effort telling us not to go outta our way to get it for him.”
“The gloves, Y/N,” Matt said. “You think his hands are burnt?”
“I do. I think he, or someone, set that fire.”
There was a bleak quietude for a moment, the eeriness of the wind passing through the open door and across the burnt ground the only noise to interrupt it. Kelly eventually heaved a sigh and pulled his beanie down over his ears.
“Alright,” he said, “let’s head back to OFI now, give them your findings. Try and open a case.” As you stood up, he put a hand on your shoulder, a knowing smile spreading across his lips. “This is good, you know. Really good.”
“Yeah.” Matt finished taking photos of the little evidence you had found before he wrapped an arm around you and pulled you against his side. “We’ll make a firefighter outta you yet.”
You smiled. “I learnt from the best.”

A/N: Thank you @talesofreading for requesting this and you and @imagine-all-the-fandoms better prepare yourselves its gonna be a steamy one.
“You know what I think we should do?” Your husband of 6 years, Kelly Severide, said as he looked up from his spot at the table looking at you at your spot at the counter making lunches for the day. You two had gotten up earlier before your two little ones, 10-year-old twins, one boy and one girl, Zoey Severide and Chase Severide, wanting to spend some time together before the chaos erupted.
“What would that be?” You answered with a question.
“I think we should leave the kids with your mom and dad and we head up to the cabin for a little get away. We both have a few days off. We need to use up by the end of the year and its already December. Maybe work on baby number 3 and maybe 4, if it’s twins again. It's also our anniversary.” He said and as he talked you thought about it and the more, he talked about it the more it sounded delightful. You were an accountant at a huge accounting firm.
“Ok. Why do we have to work on baby number 3 or 4, if it is twins? It'll be nice to get away for our anniversary.” You said looking into his stunning blue eyes that you watched light up.
“Yea?” He asked
“Yea.” You replied and nodded. He smiled and got up and turned you around to where you were pressed against the counter and kissed you.
“We need to apply for vacation 2 weeks in advance.” He said kissing your neck as his hands roamed your body.
“Mmmm true but I want to take it with you now.” You moaned quietly especially when his hand came in contact with your clothed core.
“Then put your 2 weeks notice for vacation today and I'll put mine in.” He said nipping at your neck as his hand traveled up and slid into your sleep shorts and underwear. You always ran hot so it wasn't rare to find you in a tank top and shorts in the dead of winter. He ran his fingers through your slick folds.
“Kels the kids could walk in at any minute.” You moaned and gripped the counter behind you. You had your eyes closed and head thrown back and wasn't expecting to find him close to your ear and jumped which made his thick digit sink into you.
“We have plenty of time. We have another hour before they have to be up. So, you better be quiet.” He said as he fingered you curling his finger to hit your g-spot.
“Fuck, Baby.” You moaned out quietly and whimpered when he pulled out but you didn't have to wait long because he was getting on his knees and pulling your sleep shorts and underwear down your legs to where they were at your ankles and you stepped out of on pant leg. He spread your legs and suddenly his mouth was on your heated slick core. It made you jump and you had to throw a hand over your mouth to keep quiet. He tongued fucked you and licked you up and down with an occasional nip at your clit. Your legs were shaking. “Baby, I'm going to cum.” You moaned quietly having taken your hand away and you could feel him smirk and pick up his effort and after one gentle bite to your clit you were coming down and cumming on your husband's face. He didn't stop until you were a shaking flustered mess. He stood up and you looked at him, your juices shining in the light on his lips.
“You taste great, Baby.” He said and you couldn't speak still coming down finally catching your breath you spoke.
“I think you need some attention.” You said and looked down at his erection. He smirked as you got down on your knees grabbing a hold of his shorts and underwear and pulling them down enough to where his raging erection came up and hit his clothed abs. You knew you had plenty of time and you knew your kids were heavy sleepers so you took your husband in your mouth and got to work. His hand immediately went to the back of your head and he threw his head back. Whatever part of the shaft wasn't in your mouth you had your hand wrapped around. He was thick and girthy.
“Fuck, Honey. Your mouth was made for me.” He said quietly and so you relaxed your throat and took him further. “Oh, fuck you're taking me so deep. Keep going.” He said as you bobbed your head up and down and jerked him off. Tongue licking and circling his tip every now and then. Then your other hand went to his heavy balls and he jumped. You knew he was close because his cock started jumping and his balls tightened. “I'm close. I wanna finish inside of you.” He said as he withdrew and you stood up. He swiped everything over and you squealed and chuckled when he picked you up and laid you down. His cock went straight to your entrance. “Ready?” He asked and you nodded enthusiastically.
“Please.” You moaned and he smirked and slid in you bottoming out all in go. You threw your head back in pleasure. “That’s right baby fill me up.” You moaned and then he settled letting you adjust. After a minute you nodded and he started to move. At first it was slow and the stretch felt wonderful his head went into your neck and he kissed you and nibbled on your neck as he slowly fucked into you. “Faster, Babe.” You moaned and he smiled.
“You’re in charge.” He said and started to speed up each thrust made you moan out in pleasure to the point where he had to cover your mouth with his hand. “What did I say about being quiet?” He said in a playful warning tone. You clenched around him and he moaned.
“Sorry, but you make me feel so good.” You moaned behind his hand. His rhythm started to become sporadic; he moved his hand and replaced it with his mouth. Finally, he stilled and painted your walls white then you were cumming behind him and he stayed there for a minute until you started to hear Chase stir by flushing the toilet. He quickly but slowly pulled out of you and was quickly hurrying to pull his underwear and shorts up as he was quickly helping you pull yours up. Both giggling as you both tried to hurry.
“Wait.” He said and grabbed some of this sperm that leaked out and put it back in which had you moaning. You heard Chase's footsteps on the stairs.
“Hurry.” You said and he did. He pulled your pants up and helped you down as he pulled them over your hips. You quickly fixed your hair and turned back to the food on the counter getting it back in order and Kelly was beside you helping. You could feel his cum running down your legs but knew the counter would hide it but you looked at Kelly and he looked at you smirking. “I can feel your cum running down my leg.” You whispered and his smirk got bigger and you nudged him but he didn’t say anything because Chase was appearing in front of the counter. “Good morning, Baby Boy.” You said.
“Good morning, Sunshine.” Kelly said at the same time and he looked at you both.
“Morning.” He grumbled and you laughed. He was always the first one up out of your kids even if he was never a morning person just like his father but just like his father, he had an internal alarm clock that made him get up at the time he was supposed to
“Alright, Kelly Jr. what would you like for breakfast?” You asked and he shrugged.
“I don’t know. Waffles?” He asked, now awake a little more.
“Sounds good, Bud. I’ll get them started while your mother goes and gets your sister.” He said and that is what you did. Your daughter was a lot like you wanting to sleep in as much as possible and stay up as late as possible. It really is funny how you both had kids that ended up being the same as you both. You went over and kissed your son’s head and he grunted but you knew he secretly loved you cuddles and kisses. As you started to walk up the stairs you felt more cum escape and you glared and shook your head.
“Damn you, Kelly.” You whispered as you reached your daughter’s room and you knocked slightly before you were opening the door. “Zoey, honey. It is time to get up.” You said as you walked further into her room.
“No, 5 more minutes.” She groaned and you smiled as you sat on the edge of her bed.
“Don’t you want waffles? Dad is cooking them.” You said and that perked her up. Both you and Kelly could cook but his waffles were the best and you couldn’t argue with that.
“Yea.” She said as she started to get up out of the bed. You smiled and ran a hand through her hair as she rubbed her eyes as she made her way downstairs.
“Hey, tell Dad that I’ll be down there in a minute. I’m going to shower and get ready.” You said and she nodded.
“I will.” She said and she disappeared and you sat there for a minute and then you were getting up and heading to your and Kelly’s room to start getting ready for the day. You turned on the shower to the temperature you wanted and then you stripped out of your clothing a glob of cum ran out and onto your underwear and you smiled thinking of the activities that you and your husband were up to before the kids started to get up. Once your clothing was off you stepped in the warm water cascaded down your back and you sighed and titled your head back letting the warm water run down your head. Your hand traveled to your stomach and it stayed there you and Kelly always talked about having more kids but never had the time but now this would be the perfect opportunity and who knows your little rendezvous in the kitchen might’ve just been it but you weren’t ovulating so it might’ve not happened but if your schedule is right, you would be when you and Kelly were at the cabin. You smiled at the thought of being pregnant as you started your shower routine. When you were done you turned off the shower and dried off and then wrapped the towel around your body and stepped out. You brushed your teeth and put on deodorant then got dressed in the clothes for the day which consisted of jeans, a plain blue t-shirt, and then one of Kelly’s sweatshirts. You grabbed socks and sat on the bed to put them on and once they were you walked down the stairs to be greeted with laughter from your husband and kids. You walked into the kitchen and smiled and then your son saw you and smiled at you.
“Hey, Mom.” He said and that caused the other two to look at you and smile.
“Hi, Momma.” Zoey said as she took a bite of her waffle. Kelly got up and grabbed a plate with fresh waffles and walked over to you and kissed you as he handed the plate to you.
“Hi, Baby.” He said
“Thank you.” He said and then he was turning around and putting his hand on the small of your back leading you to the table.
“Have you told them?” You asked as you drowned your waffle in syrup.
“Told us what?” Zoey and Chase said at the same time.
“I was waiting for you and now that you’re here we can tell them together. Your mom and I are going to be heading up to the cabin in two weeks for our anniversary.” He said
“Ugh lucky, you two get to go away while we still have to go to school.” Chase said and you both laughed and smiled as you took a bite of your waffle.
“I think that is a wonderful idea. You two deserve some time off.” Zoey said and you smiled.
“Thank you, Z. Also you both will be staying with Grandma and Grandpa while we are gone. I know you both love them.” Kelly said and they both nodded. Your parents were extremely helpful during your pregnancy and when the twins were born. You had a great relationship with them and they loved Kelly and Kelly loved them.
“Ok that makes it better.” Chase said and everyone chuckled. Kelly reached over and ruffled his hair which he groaned playfully and tried to get away. The rest of breakfast was spent laughing and eating until it was time for the kids to start getting ready for school and you finished putting lunches in lunch boxes. As the kids were getting ready Kelly came up behind you and kissed your neck.
“What time do you go in?” You asked
“9 AM.” He said kissing your neck and you titled it to the side and before you got too far into the pleasure you stopped him because you knew what he was doing.
“Oh no. We don’t have time for this again. Our kids are awake.” You said and he groaned but stopped pouting and you turned your head and kissed his pouty lips. “I love you.” You added and smiled which made him smile.
“I love you too.” He said and then Chase and Zoey were coming down the stairs. They grabbed their winter jackets and backpacks and Kelly departed from you.
“I’ll be late at work so the two of you will have to get a ride to the station and wait with your dad until I get off work.” You said as you turned, handing them their lunches and they put them in their bags.
“Ok.” They both said at the same time a trait that came with being twins. Every time it happened you laughed and smiled and Kelly did the same.
“Alright, we have to get going or we’ll be late.” You said and they both turned to hug their father and he hugged them back and kissed their heads and told them that he loved them. You walked over and kissed him and hugged him. “I love you.” You said.
“I love you too.” He replied and then you and the two kids were out the door and heading to your Jeep. They argued about getting the front seat and you quickly put an end to that and made them sit in the back of course they both pouted but did as they were told not wanting to get on your bad side.
It was a quick drive to their school and you were pulling up in the front and saying bye to them and you were heading off to work. When you got there, you sighed and parked your Jeep then got out while grabbing your stuff and heading in after locking your Jeep it was actually not blistering cold but still cold but you knew that could change. As you were walking your friend, coworker, and boss April Jepp “Hey.” She said and you turned to her as you both entered the heated building.
“Hey.” You said smiling at her finally thawing you.
“So, your anniversary is coming up. Any plans?” She asked, wiggling her eyebrows and you smiled at her and laughed.
“We were planning to go up to the cabin for a few days.” You said “Which means I need to take a few days off.” You said and she smiled and nodded.
“Of course you can. You’re my best accountant. You both deserve some time together on your special day.” She said as you both walked into her office. She was a really cool boss and everyone loved her and loved working with her. “So which days are you thinking about?” She asked as she sat down at her desk pulling up the scheduling.
“I’m thinking about the week of the 15th.” You said and she nodded and then smiled.
“Done. Also thank you for coming to me two weeks in advance.” She said and you smiled.
“Not a problem.” You said and then you were heading out of her office and started your long day of working but smiled at the thought of your time off with your husband.
*******
At the station Kelly had been tied up with calls all day until it was time for the kids to arrive at the station so he hadn’t been able to ask until now. He had just taken his gear off when Chief Wallace Boden walked by. “Hey, Chief! I have a question for you.” He said and Boden stopped and turned to him.
“What’s up?” He asked
“Y/N and I’s wedding anniversary is coming up and we were planning on going to the cabin to spend some time together. I wanted to take off the week of the 15th for it.” He said and Boden smiled.
“Of course you can. I’ll go and schedule you off.” Boden said and Kelly smiled.
“Thank you so much.” He said and Boden patted him on the shoulder and then he was off. Kelly was about to go and do something when Chase and Zoey’s voice caught his attention.
“Dad!” They said at the same time and he turned and smiled as they ran up to him.
“Hey you two.” He said and he hugged them both.
“I will never get used to you having kids.” Stella Kidd said and everyone that was in the garage nodded and agreed.
“Get used to it.” He said “We’re planning for a third one.” He added.
“What?” Chase said
“You and mom are trying for another kid?” Zoey asked
“We are. Do you not want that?” He asked
“We want it!” They yelled and he chuckled and kissed their heads.
“Good. Now go and do your homework before your mom gets here.” He said and ushered them to the kitchen.
“So, you and the wife want more kids?” Matt Casey said coming over to him and Stella.
“We do. We loved raising the twins into the kids they are today and we’re ready for the baby phase again. Also, the kids would be pretty far enough apart in age. We’re just ready.” Kelly answered him and they all smiled.
“You’re a great dad.” Matt said
“Thank you.” Kelly said and then they got busy with doing things around the firehouse until you came into it around 6 PM and spotted your husband right away.
“Sorry, I had a project that I needed to finish up.” You said as you got to him and kissed him.
“Nonsense. You have to do what you need. The kids finished their homework up and we fed them. There is plenty if you want something.” He said
“Please.” You said and he was ushering you into the kitchen and you went to your kids, who were sitting on the couch in front of the TV. “Hey you two.” You said as you touched their heads and they turned around with smiles on their faces.
“Hi, Mom.” They said at the same time and you leaned down.
“What are you watching?” You asked them.
“Parks and Recreation.” Zoey said and you smiled.
“Good show. You two can continue watching while I eat and talk with your dad.” You said and they nodded and again you smiled and turned to your husband who was sitting a plate down for you.
“They know we are trying for another kid.” Kelly said as you took your first bite.
“Oh?” You asked and he nodded.
“It went well and they want a sibling. Stella mentioned something about not getting used to me being a dad and I told her to get used to it because we are trying for another.” He said
“I’m glad they are excited.” You said as you ate and he nodded. You two continued to talk for a while before he was being called away and that is when you decided to leave you and the kids said goodbye and gave him hugs and kisses and all three of you were off.
*******
The time for you and Kelly to go up to the cabin had finally come. The good news was that you had your period last week and knew you were ovulating so it would be perfect. You and Kelly had agreed not to drink this week because you were trying to get pregnant. You both dropped the kids off to your parents the night before and went to the store and grabbed the necessities and the stuff that needed to be in the fridge and freezer went into coolers and then the two of you started to head up right after. The ride up there was filled with talking, laughter, music, and some good and bad singing. Then you saw something white fall. “Is it snowing?” You asked leaning forward to get a better view and as more fell you confirmed it but so did Kelly.
“Looks like that.” He said and turned on the windshield wipers. You started to grin wider as you set back; you loved the snow and he knew that. It just made this all the more special. Thankfully his Jeep had all wheel drive and weather prepared. The lake started to come into view and then your cabin came into view and you smiled. Kelly saw you in the corner of his eye and he smiled. He loved it when you were happy. Kelly turned the Jeep and backed it up until he was close to the porch and parked and turned the key off. You got out and walked a little bit to where your favorite tree was. You weren’t standing there long before your felt arms around your waist.
“Isn't it beautiful?” You asked
“It sure is.” He said smiling though he wasn’t talking about the view but you didn’t know that.
“I can’t wait to get this week started.” You said and he smiled and kissed your head.
“Me either so let us get to it.” He said and you smiled and nodded and so you both started to unpack the Jeep and you went and unlocked the cabin and turned some lights on. Once the Jeep was unpacked and everything was sitting on the counter and suitcases by the stairs you went over and turned on the heat. “So, what do you want to start with first?” He asked as he started to put food away.
“Hmmmm first we need to let everyone know we are here safely.” You said and he chuckled and you pulled out your phone to do so, you were glad you had service up here. “Then I think we should get a fire going and a movie queued. Just have a relaxing night in.” You said and he smiled as you walked over to him and leaned on the counter.
“That sounds wonderful, my beautiful wife.” He said and you blushed no matter how long you were with him he knew how to make you blush.
“I also want you to know that my period was last week and I’m ovulating.” You said smirking as his lips started to turn into a smile.
“Oh really?” He asked
“Really.” You said
“We can get started on the 3rd kid now.” He said and you chuckled.
“First you’re going to build that fire.” You said and he groaned and sighed.
“Fine.” He said and sulked off but you just laughed and followed him grabbing the remote and turning on the TV and once it was on you turned it to Amazon Prime Video.
“What do you want to watch?” You asked as he stacked the logs and lit them on fire.
“That new Twisters movie is out. How about that?” He asked
“Any chance to look at Glen Powell in a white T-Shirt with rain coming down and him in a cowboy hat I’ll take.” You said and he rolled his eyes but smiled.
“When did you see it?” He asked
“When the kids were in bed and you were at work.” You said and he laughed as he got up and came over and sat down and you snuggled into him. He grabbed the blanket from the back of the couch and threw it over you as you started the movie. You sat through the movie grinning like an idiot and slightly drooling and when it was over 2 hrs. later you were pouting and Kelly laughed but just kissed you. It was now dark and your stomach was growling.
“Hungry?” He asked and you nodded.
“Yes, did the frozen pizza get put up?” You asked
“It did but it won’t take long to thaw and the oven preheats pretty fast.” He said “Is that what you want?” He asked.
“Yes. Did the ranch and hot sauce make it into the food?” You asked
“Of course. I know you can’t live without those two.” He said
“Awww you really do love me.” You said as he started to get up to start getting the food ready.
“You know I do.” He said and turned to kiss you then he was walking into the kitchen as you started to get the next movie or show ready. You heard the freezer door open and close and the oven start. Soon Kelly was joining you back on the couch.
“What are we watching now?” He asked
“Leverage.” You said as you opened the blanket and he scooted in. You snuggled into his arms. You got 30 minutes into the movie when the oven preheated and he got up and put in the pizza and came back to the couch with drinks, ranch, and hot sauce.
“20 minutes and we’ll have food ready.” He said and you smiled.
“Perfect.” You said “What do you say about going on a hike tomorrow?” You asked
“That sounds like a perfect plan then we can come in and warm up with activities.” He said wiggling his eyebrows and you rolled your eyes but you weren’t going to say no.
“Perfect.” You said and then he was getting up for the last time but this time he was bringing plates and pizza. He had set the pizza down and put a slice on the plate for you and handed it to you along with your sauce of choice. You spent the rest of the evening cuddled together eating pizza and watching a Leverage marathon. That’s what you ended up doing all night because the next morning you were waking up on the couch wrapped in your husband's arms laying on top of him, he must’ve moved to laying down. The fire had gone out and the warm sun was hitting your face.
“Good morning.” He said and you looked down at him he still had his eyes closed.
“You’re awake?” You asked and he opened his eyes and looked at you.
“Been awake for about 20 minutes, you just looked too peaceful to wake up.” He said and you smiled and kissed him and he kissed back. “When do you want to start that hike?” He asked.
“As soon as we get changed and have breakfast.” You said and he smiled and kissed you again.
“Perfect just like you.” He said and you blushed and then you were getting up and he was too. You both took your bag upstairs and got ready for the hike and the day. Once you were ready you helped make breakfast and you both ate while you both talked about anything or everything but mostly crazy calls he had gone on. You really didn’t have any crazy or funny stories so you left all that to him. When you were done you both put on your snow boots and winter coats along with hats and then you ventured out into the chilly air.
“Kels look!” You said looking out at the snow in amazement and all he could look at was the excitement on your face.
“It’s wonderful.” He said, he continued to stare at you until you looked at him.
“Ready?” You asked and he nodded.
“Always.” He said and so you both started to walk. It was wonderful you were huddled up against your husband and gloved hands holding each other. You must’ve walked for a few hours until you got to your favorite place by the lake, the place where your husband proposed and you had pictures of it thanks to Leslie Shay having come up with you. You two stood there and looked over the lake that now had a light layer of ice over it.
“Remember when you proposed to me up here?” You asked, looking over at him as he looked out over the lake.
“I do. I remember like it was yesterday.” He said looking over at you and you were smiling. “If I could I would do it over again.” He said and you smiled and blushed but you couldn’t tell because your cheeks were pink from the cold and so was your nose. “Ready to head back?” He asked, looking at your rosy nose and cheeks. You smiled and nodded.
“Yes, I am. Also ready for those warming up activities that you have planned.” You said smirking and he smirked back.
“So am I.” He said and then you both shared a kiss and then you were heading back to the cabin. An hour later you were back and stepping into the warm cabin.
“Warmth.” You moaned and he chuckled “I’m going to take a shower. You’re welcome to join me.” You said smirking and winking as you shed your jacket and boots and headed upstairs and he was quickly shedding his boots and jacket and hurrying behind you. When he finally reached you, the shower was already running and there was a pile of your clothes and his quickly joined. He stepped into the bathroom naked and pulled the glass shower door back. You turned to look at him smirking as he stepped in behind you. The shower was plenty big and it was perfect. His hands went to your breasts and massaged them as he kissed your neck and nipped at it your head turned to give him better access. You could feel his erection standing attention against your lower back. You turned around in his arms and threw your arms around his neck and his hands left your breasts and went to your hips.
“Hi.” He said in a whisper.
“Hi.” You replied in the same tone. You then leaned in and kissed him and he squeezed your hips and that was a signal for you to jump and you did. He backed you up into the wall under the water. He held onto you as one hand went to his cock and slowly slid it into you and you moaned in his mouth. You thrusted in you nice and slow taking his time with you and since there was no need to worry about hurrying or any kids possibly interrupting you.
“Always so tight for me.” He moaned as he broke the kiss.
“That’s because I was made for you.” You moaned and he thrusted up into you.
“Damn right.” He said kissing the side of your neck.
“You always know how to hit all the right spots.” You moaned and you tightened around him.
“Keep doing that and I won’t last long.” He moaned and you smirked and did it again. “Oh, fuck I’m close.” He moaned.
“So am I baby. So am I.” You moaned and just about that time his thrusts became erratic and you both came hard. He stayed in you until you both came down and he was putting you down on shaky legs. You two eventually did get cleaned and he turned the shower off and then grabbed the towels. First, he dried you off and wrapped it around your body and then dried off and wrapped his towel around his waist. He helped you out of the shower and then followed right behind you. You put on your bra and underwear and then his Chicago Fire Department long sleeved shirt that you might’ve stolen from him. Your hair was wet and down and to him you looked sexy as hell. He pulled on his underwear and threw a shirt on and then the both of you were heading down the stairs.
“Want some hot chocolate, Babe?” He asked as he reached the kitchen and turned to you as you tended to the fire. You turned and smiled at him and nodded.
“With-” You began
“With whip cream and extra marshmallows.” He said and you smiled.
“You get me so well.” You said
“Of course I do, Baby.” He said and brought over two mugs as you took a seat on the couch. He waited until you got settled before giving you your hot chocolate and then he sat down and you settled into him.
“If we do end up pregnant, what are you hoping for?” You asked as you took a sip of your hot chocolate.
“Another girl would be nice but also another boy.” He said and you chuckled.
“What if it is twins again?” You asked and he smiled.
“That would be even more perfect.” He said and you smiled and snuggled further into him. Whatever you had or how many you had they would be equally loved and given attention. As the week came to an end and you were packing up and feeling refreshed during your stay you both had several more intimate moments and each time it was sweet and not rushed.
*******
The next week was Christmas and you were excited for Kelly to open his present. When you had gotten back into town Sunday you dropped Kelly off at home and made a quick trip to the store before going to get the kids. You got a pregnancy test and some baby clothes, two sets. If you knew your body then it would be throwing twins, you just had a feeling. The baby clothes were all firefighter themed and you were thankful for keeping the baby clothes from the twins. Then you picked the twins up and headed home. They talked nonstop about what they did with their grandparents and you smiled as you listened glad, they always had a good time with them. By the time you got into the house they were already rushing off to tackle their father and you laughed.
When you had gone back to work for the one day before Christmas Eve you were greeted back with open arms and everyone said you were glowing which you blushed but thanked them. You went through work happy and ready to be back home. The time for you to go home came quickly and you were saying bye to your coworkers and heading home. When you got there Kelly’s Jeep was gone still which meant that he was picking up the kids after his 24-hr. shift which meant that you had 20 minutes to take the test. You parked and then got out grabbing your stuff and rushing in. You quickly threw your jacket off and shoes and rushed to the bathroom. You went into the bathroom and grabbed the test which was hidden in your tampons. You pulled your pants and underwear down and sat on the toilet and took the test then capped it you set your timer for 5 minutes, you wiped and pulled up your underwear and pants. You were nervous but excited as you washed your hands. The timer went off and you took a breath and looked at it and melted in relief and excitement. Two pink lines. You were pregnant.
You exited the bathroom and grabbed the gift bag and gift box. You quickly put the test in the box and the baby clothes in the bag. You went downstairs and put them under the tree just as soon as the door opened. The tree and decorations were put up and set up before you had left for your little vacation. “Honey, we’re home!” Kelly shouted and you chuckled.
“In the living room!” You shouted and they all came rushing in.
“Mom!” Zoey and Chase shouted and came and almost tackled you.
“Easy.” Kelly said and they listened and they hugged you and then sat down beside you. You smiled as they talked about their day and the gifts that were exchanged. You were invested in what they were saying and listened to them happily and so did Kelly. Soon it was time for dinner and then they were heading off to bed leaving you and Kelly alone cuddled up on the couch looking at the multi-colored lights on the Christmas tree. Neither of you spoke and as his hand rested on your stomach you smiled you couldn’t wait to share the news with him.
Christmas Eve came and went and family dinners were eaten and now it was Christmas. You both were woken up early and being ushered downstairs to the tree as your parents knocked on the door and Kelly went and opened the door. Everyone was gathered, gifts were open and thank you’s and I love you’s along with hugs were passed around. Finally, you decided to give Kelly his gift. “I have one last gift for you.” You told him as you reached over and grabbed the bag and box. You gave him the bag first and he opened it. He read it and things started to click and it seemed like everyone had gotten it already and they were smiling and squealing.
“Are you?” He asked and you gestured to the box.
“Open it.” You said and he did and there sat the test with the two pink lines.
“Holy shit. Really?” He asked and you smiled and nodded tears coming to his eyes.
“Really.” You said and he practically lunged at you and hugged you and kissed you as everyone cheered and your parents congratulated you.
“We’re going to be grandparents again!” Your father cheered.
“Oh, I can’t wait to spoil them.” Your mother said.
“Finally, another sibling!” Zoey and Chase said and you chuckled and nodded. Everything was great.
*******
9 months later you were welcoming your twins. Yup twins. One boy, Sam Severide, and one girl, Olivia Severide. The numbers were even and Kelly was excited that they were and so were you. Both healthy and strong just like their daddy and you if you asked Kelly and others. Twins just meant twice the love that went around.
Everything was perfect.

FBI
Characters: Kelly Severide x Reader, half of firehouse 51
Warnings: Brief mentions of a crime idk.
Summary: This wasn't exactly what they were thinking when an fbi agent strolled into their firehouse.
A/N: I had such a nice plan for this little beauty but then I messed up and then I remembered I had homework due tomorrow that I haven't done so please enjoy this ugly piece of writing. Kinda don't want to publish this but I need to feed you lot before I get swamped in holiday homework.
"Hey, I'm looking for a Kelly Severide."
You said, asking the first person you found. It was your first time in the firehouse and this definitely wasn't how you planned it to be but you could make this work.
"Lieutenant Kelly Severide?" The woman rose her brow, her voice coming across as soft as she looked. You couldn't deny she was pretty and taking into account her blonde hair and the word paramedic on her uniform caused your brows to rise ever so slightly.
"Oh! You must be Sylvie Brett." You smiled, holding out your hand for the paramedic to shake which she did with much confusion and slight fear. "Agent Y/N Y/L/N."
"You work for the fbi." She stated, fidgeting with her fingers once your hands were released. It was clear she was shocked and you could understand why; your gun in its holster, your shiny golden badge and the bold yellow letters printed on the back of your government issued jacket.
"Yes I do." You replied with a tight lipped smile, annoyed that your job was the first impression everyone at the firehouse would be getting from you; these men and women were family to Kelly and greeting them for the first time ever in your uniform wasn't what you wanted.
Before Sylvie could fully shake off her shock, someone butted into the conversation, having spotted and recognising you.
"Y/N, you're back." Matt smiled, his arms wide inviting your for a hug which you immediately accepted. The captain was the one person in Kelly's life that knew of your existence since there was no hiding you from his roomate, especially since your stay became more permanent.
The hug was what caught everyone's attention. Sylvie talking to someone was normal but Matt hugging a stranger wasn't, hence all the heads turning and when all their eyes widened, you weren't surprised.
"Feds." Two men whispered in sync upon laying eyes on you, the others stood out of their seats and came around to you in the middle of the common room.
"What do the feds want with us now?" One man asked, crossing his arms with an attitude that you could smell from a mile away. Maybe it was his accent or it could've been his snarky tone which got him a quick reprimand from the captain but you knew his name.
"Christopher Herrmann, right?" You pointed at him, your smile brightening when he did a double take at the name you guessed correct.
"It's probably creepy that I know all your names and I really wished that we could've met under better circumstances but I will explain everything." You said, sheepishly smiling at the very confused group of firefighters.
"Y/N! What are you doing here?" Kelly noticed you from afar, it was hard not to recognise the three yellow letter the second he turned the corner.
Within seconds, Kelly enveloped you into his arms and despite the reputation that you wanted to maintain, you folded and accepted the hug, wrapping your arms around his waist, contently inhaling the comforting scent that always followed your boyfriend.
"Okay I'm sorry but who are you?"
"Agent Y/N Y/L/N." You replied automatically, not even thinking about leaving out the agent. Biting the inside of your lip, you internally cursed at yourself.
"She's my girlfriend." Kelly smirked, his arm happily resting across your shoulders where he could keep you close to him. "Whose actually supposed to be in Texas right about now, what happened?"
"Everything's fine. We apprehended our guy earlier than expected and there might've been a gunfight and there's a small possibility I was in the middle but a graze is nothing." You said with ease since it was your job and you loved everything it entailed but to your crowd, you seemed like a lunatic and a hero combined in one.
"You're kidding." Kelly looked down at you in concern, his heart rate picking up at the mere thought of you getting hurt, even if you brushed it off as a papercut.
Before you could explain further that a graze inflicted zero pain, a man you could name purely based off the aura that surrounded him entered the common room.
"Agent, what can we do for you?" The tallest man came forward and asked, his hands shaking yours before they were on his hips. From his stance and the way his voice was so gentle but commandeering made it easy for you to deduce his position in the firehouse; it also helped that Kelly continuously boasted about the men and women of 51.
"I'm sorry for interrupting your day chief." You firstly apologised, sheepishly smiling at the firefighters who were shocked at Kelly's arm still wrapped around your waist. "I need nothing but a few minutes with lieutenant Severide and I'll be out your hair."
"Don't be silly." Kelly shook his head, looking down at you with a slight frown. "Why don't you stay for lunch, you can't just appear out of nowhere and not eat with us."
"I have so much paperwork I left behind. My boss will have my throat if they're not done." You tried fighting Kelly but he looked at you with such big eyes that you wanted to drown yourself in and a slight pout was making itself known and before you knew it, you were caving in.
"Alright, just a few bites and then I have to go."
It was safe to say, some feds were okay.

“She’s almost here,” Dr Calhoun announced, “just a few more minutes and you’ll meet your little girl.”
“See baby? You’re doing amazing,” Kelly beamed, kissing you on the cheek.
“I didn’t think I’d be this nervous to be on the table,” you chuckled.
“And she’s out,” Dr Calhoun announced, rushing the baby to the warmer behind her.
“Why isn’t she crying? Kelly, why isn’t she crying?” You asked, a worried tone to your voice.
“Dr Calhoun? Is everything okay?” Kelly gruffly called over.
“Just clearing the mouth and nose and taking some measurements. Nothing to worry about,” she replied, “the nurses will take her final measurements and bring her over while I close your abdomen.”
You heard a loud wail come from across the room. You were both okay.
“We’re bring her over now, Mrs Severide,” a nurse told you as she brought over your baby and set her on your chest.
“Baby, she’s beautiful,” you started to tear up.
“She gets it from her mama,” he replied, brushing back your hair and kissing your forehead.
As Dr Calhoun finished stitching you up, the team got you ready to head into post op.
The trip to your recovery room was long, but your new baby made it feel short.
Once you and Kelly were settled in your recovery room, a nurse knocked on your door.
“Mrs Severide?” the nurse asked, “two firefighters are here to see you.”
“Send them in please,” you replied.
A few moments later, Casey and Boden walked through your door.
“How’d it go?” Casey asked you.
“I’m okay. Baby is perfect” you replied, a smile stuck to your face.
“Glad to hear,” Boden smiled, “the rest of 51 will be by after shift.”
“We just figured the two of us would come by for now, keep the knuckleheads at the firehouse,” Casey laughed.
“Knock knock,” Dr Calhoun said, pushing the door back, “is now a good time?”
“We’ll leave you guys be. I’ll bring Sylvie by tomorrow,” Casey smiled.
“Thanks Matt,” Kelly replied.
“Thank you guys for coming. It’s good to know she already has 51 looking out for her,” you smiled, wiping the tears off your face.
Casey and Boden left the room, as Doctor Calhoun made her way over to your bedside.
“The surgery went well. We’ll keep you here for a few days, then you both should be good to go home,” she smiled.
“That’s great news,” Kelly smiled.
“The best thing now is establishing some skin-to-skin with both of you. I’ll leave you guys to it, but a nurse will be outside if you need anything.”
Kelly helped you unbutton the top clasps on your gown, exposing the top of your chest. Feeling your brand new baby breathe on your chest was a surreal feeling, something you’d never thought you’d get.
Doctor Calhoun left your room. Kelly leaned over your bed and kissed you.
Looking over at you with your brand new baby, Kelly said, “I guess we should name her now, huh?”
“I’ve got a few ideas,” you chuckled.
“Which are?” He smiled.
“Well, for starters, I would like it to mean and honour something. I know we’ve talked about it before, but I think her middle name should be Shay. Leslie is a big reason we’re together and if we weren’t together, this little girl wouldn’t be here.”
“Baby,” Kelly’s eyes started to fill with tears, “I love you- I don’t even know what to say.”
“So that’s a yes to the middle name?”
“Of course it’s a yes.”
“Ok so first name ideas?”
“Alexis.”
“Alexis?”
“Your sister would’ve hopped on a plane as soon as we found out you were pregnant if it weren’t for losing her at 28. If she can’t be here, we should find a way to honour her memory. Alexis would’ve loved meeting her niece.”
“Alexis Shay Severide?”
“So it’s settled?”
“It’s settled. Ready to hold your daughter?”
“Never been so ready.”
“Take your shirt off then, mister.”
“Damn, I missed you saying that,” he laughed.
Picking up Alexis and handing her over to her father, your husband. It still didn’t feel real.
“She really is so beautiful,” he smiled.
There was a knock on the door and a blonde woman with glasses poked her head around the corner.
“We should call your mom,” Kelly reminded, “she’d want to come meet Alexis.”
“Can you FaceTime her?”
“Of course, babe. Do you want her back?”
“Well I mean, if you’re offering,” you chuckled.
You took Alexis back from Kelly and he grabbed his phone to call your mom.
“Hey mom, I’ve got someone who I think you’ll want to meet,” you laughed, Kelly tipping the phone down to see Alexis.
“Honey! You didn’t tell me she was arriving early! What’s her name? When was she born?” Your mom gushed.
“That’s actually why we’re calling. We figured you’d want to come meet her in person. She was born late this morning, then we picked her name a few minutes ago. Meet your granddaughter, Alexis Shay Severide.”
“Alexis? Like your sister?” She sighed, “why would you do that?”
“We thought it would be a good way to honour the life of my sister. Is there something wrong?” You felt yourself become stressed.

“Engine 51, Truck 81, Squad 3, Ambulance 61, Battalion 25,” the alarm rings out, forcing Kelly and Dani to break apart and head towards the trucks. “Sounds serious,” she comments.
“Seriously fun,” Kelly quips. “Hey. You better bring that body of yours back in one piece, because I have got big plans for it tonight,” Dani tells him before heading to the truck, pulling her turnout pants on and climbing in the back of the truck with her jacket. “51, get me a water supply from the standpipe. Truck 81, Squad 3, I need search teams. Engine 37, get the hoses into the north stairwell. Ambulance 61, set up triage. Get ready, people. We're going to war,” Boden orders as everyone arrives and climbs out of their respective rigs. “Fire's on the 20th floor,” the building manager tells them as they walk in. “How many units on each floor, and where's your alarm panel?” Boden asks. “12. It's right over here,” the man led them over to it. “Mouch, you're on lobby control. Get the elevators down here,” Matt ordered. “You got it, Captain.”
“Okay, fire is confined to 20 for now. We need to investigate the fire floor. Get to everybody trapped above it. I made at least four people signaling from their windows,” Boden tells the gathered firefighters. “We riding or walking?” Kelly asks. “Casey,” Boden turns to the captain.
“Mouch, what's happening?” Matt calls into the radio. “I have control of one, two, and four, but the number three car is stopped on the 18th floor, and I can't get it moving. Can we get a look inside of that elevator?” Mouch asks. “Number three? Right here,” the building manager shows them. “The car is empty, Mouch, but keep trying,” Matt tells him. “Copy. Okay, heat is interfering with the electronics,” Mouch calls out after a few moments. “That settles it. You're climbing. To all companies, we can't trust the elevators. Use the stairs only. Stage on 19. Truck 81, give me a primary search on 20. Squad 3, take 21. Engine 37 will attack the fire. Okay, let's go, let's go, let's go!” Boden orders. “I don't mean to be in your way, Chief. I'm just here 'cause Commissioner Grissom wants me to be,” Gorsch tells Boden who glares when he almost runs into the smaller man.
“Extra air tanks get stashed on 19! We'll attack from the north stairs. Use the south stairs for evacuation. Hey, Chief, we're approaching the 20th floor,” Matt calls into his radio. “Go. Come on, come on, come on. Come on, Ritter, what's the hold up?” 37’s lieutenant yelled. “These threads are in bad shape, keep sticking,” the candidate tells him. “I thought I told you to clean the standpipe,” the lieutenant scolds. “I did, Lieutenant,” Ritter tells him. “Yeah, not with your hands, with a wire brush!” the lieutenant yells. “He used a brush. I saw him,” Herrmann speaks up. “All right, let me in there. I'll do it,” the lieutenant huffs “I got it. It's on,” Ritter tells him. “Well, then open the valve!” the lieutenant exclaims. “Hey, Paxson. Go easy on the kid. He's doing great,” Herrmann tries to defend the candidate. “Mind your business, Herrmann,” Paxson huffs, turning to the candidate. “Hey, put your mask on.”
“Chief Boden!” Someone yells. “Halstead?” Boden turned, after hearing the familiar voice call out to him. “Where's the fire? What floor?” Jay asks. “20, why? What's up?” Boden counters. “My dad lives on 23. Dani doesn’t really have anything to do with him so she doesn’t know,” Jay tells him. “Casey, what's it looking like up there?” Chief calls into his walkie. “Hang on, Chief, we're almost in,” Matt tells him. “And we're hooked up. Let's do this!” Paxson yells, grabbing the door handle. “Hey, hold on, we haven't had a chance to-” Kelly is cut off by the door slamming open and the fire jumping out at them all. “Casey, the door!” Kelly yells. “Hey, Candidate. Hey, you're good,” Herrmann tells him, wiping his mask off. “Yeah. Fire's too advanced at 20, Chief. We can't get a foothold,” Matt yells. “Okay, new plan. Squad searches 21. Truck continues up to 22. Engine 37, get a hold of that fire floor,” Boden orders. “Copy that, Chief. Let's go.”
“So you're not searching 20?” Gorsch asks. “You heard him. That hallway is fully engulfed. Where's your father?” Boden asks. “He lives in 23C,” Jay tells him. “Is he up there now?” Jay shakes his head, “I don't know, he's not answering.” He turns to the building manager. “Excuse me, have you seen Pat Halstead today?” he asks. “Sorry, I don't know him. There's over 500 residents in the tower,” the manager tells him. “Chief, my dad's got a heart condition,” Jay worries. “It's okay. We're working our primary search. 23 is next,” Boden tells him. “How can I help?” Jay asks. “Keep that doorway clear, would you?” Boden tells him. “Absolutely. Everybody back. Clear this door.”
“Check every unit! Open every door! Fire department! Call Out!” Matt yells. “Go, join the group. Right this way,” Dani tells the people coming out of apartments. “Follow them, please. Stay low,” Otis told them. They worked efficiently to guide people to the stairwells. “Chief, we cleared 22. Halstead, and I are headed to 23,” Matt calls into the radio. “Copy that. Casey, I got Jay Halstead here. His father lives at 23C. He's not answering his phone. Take a look,” Boden tells him. “On our way. Let's go,” Matt looked at Dani and nodded. Dani frowned as she followed him up the stairs to the next floor. “Hey, Chief. We pulled three victims off of 21. I still got a few more doors to kick in. We'll send these down with Truck, Kelly calls into his radio. “Okay, hey, my buddies Otis and Stella are gonna take you the rest of the way down, all right? Just do what he says,” Cruz tells the woman he had been helping. “You're not coming?” She asks. “I gotta get back inside. You'll be fine. I promise,” Cruz tells her. “Be careful,” she tells him before taking her dog and following after the other people. “Excuse me, ma'am. All right, everybody, follow me,” Otis calls out, taking the lead with Stella. “The stairwell is so smoky. Are you sure it's okay to be in here?” A woman asks. “It'll clear up once we're below the fire. Let's keep moving,” Otis assured her. “It's a long way down. Can't we take the elevator?” the same woman asked. “The elevators aren't safe. I can hold your baby if you want. Hey, buddy. Hey, little guy. You wanna come to Otis? Hey, come on. Let's go,” Otis offers, reaching out to take the child. “I can carry him. That's not the point,” the woman huffs.
“Let's go. Folks, we gotta keep the entrance clear. I need you to wait across the street. Come on,” Jay yells over the crowd of people trying to push past him. “Let's get two more engine companies hooked up to hydrants in case we start to lose pressure. And move Truck 40 down to the corner. I want to leave a lane open for ambulances coming and going,” Boden orders. “Copy that, Chief,” someone responds. “Chief, we're inside 23C right now,” Matt radios as they sweep the apartment. “Dad! If you’re here, call out!” Dani yells. “Halstead,” Chief calls over Jay. “Go ahead, Casey. What'd you find?” Boden asks. “Nothing. The apartment's empty. No sign of Mr. Halstead,” Matt reports when Dani shook her head, the apartment was clear. “Carry on, Casey,” Boden tells him. “That's good news, right?” Boden asks the detective. “Yeah, I guess so. Thanks, Chief.” Jay walks away from the fray and pulls out his phone. “Hey, man, they just made it to Dad's apartment. He's not there, you hear back from him?” Jay asks Will. “No. I just tried his cell again. Still nothing,” Will tells him. “Same. You think of anywhere else he might be?” Jay asks, “Well, the guy likes to stick to his routines. You know that. A walk in the morning, then home for lunch. He should be back by now,” Will tells him. “All right, well, I'm gonna keep an eye out. You just let me know if you hear from him. I'm guessing he'll call you first,” Jay tells him before hanging up. “You all right?” Goodwin asks Will as he tucks his phone away. “He'll turn up. Old man's a survivor,” he tells her. “If you want you can head over there and join your siblings,” Goodwin tells him. “No, but thanks. I'm good. Can do more here as they bring victims in.”
“All right. I want a secondary search of the last few floors. Make sure we found everyone that was trapped up there,” Boden calls out as Otis comes down with the group of civilians. “Okay, when you get outside, go across the street, check in with the paramedics, okay? Good work. Go outside,” Otis tells them but when he doesn’t see the mother and child he stops one of the others. “Hey. Where's the woman with the baby?” he asks. “She stepped aside to let faster people go by. I didn't see her after that,” the woman told him and he sighed. “Herrmann. The mom with the baby. Did you see her exit the stairwell?” he asks. “I thought they were up front with you,” Herrmann tells him. “We gotta go up and find them,” Otis sighs. “Right. Just let me swap out my air tank,” Herrmann tells him. “Otis, can you take a look at these controls?” Mouch asks. “I'm not on elevator duty, Mouch,” Otis huffs. “I know, but the number three car is still fritzing out. It was stuck on 18 for a while, then it went up to 24, and now it's stopped again,” Mouch tells him. “The mom. I told her we couldn't use the… God! Chief, do we have eyes inside the elevators?” Otis asks. “Camera's out.” Otis turns to Mouch. “Damn it. Okay, you go with Herrmann, I'm gonna work on the elevators, try a system reboot. If that mom took her baby onto the elevator they could be trapped,” Otis tells Boden. “All units above the fire floor, keep your eyes peeled. We are missing a woman and a young child. I want them found.”
“Severide. I need to get up to 24 to check on that elevator. Can you guys finish out on this floor?” Matt asks. “Yeah, on it. Any word on the mom and her kid?” Matt shakes his head. “Boden's got companies searching from 19 on down, but no sign of them,” he sighs. “She came from 22, right? Halstead, you and Herrmann sweep that floor again just to be sure she didn't go back up for something. Mouch, come with me and we'll start a primary on 24,” Matt orders. “Herrmann. You're looking a little peaked. I mean, you sure you don't want to stop, take a breather?” Dani teases as they stop at the entrance to the 22nd floor. “Like hell. I could do 20 more flights… And still run circles around you,” Herrmann laughed. “No doubt,” Dani nudged him after she put her mask on. “Fire department, call out!” She yelled entering the floor.
“Hey! You hurt?” Matt asks the candidate clinging to the stairwell railing, who shook his head. “Hey buddy, you okay?” Mouch echoed. “Kay, he's locked up. Took a fireball to the face earlier. Probably shook him up. Get him back downstairs,” Matt ordered. “You sure, Casey?” Mouch asked. “Yeah. He's in the way. Get him out of here,” Matt tells him before heading onwards. “What's your name?” Mouch asked. The kid just shook like a leaf so Mouch leaned over to see his last name on this helmet. “All right. Come on, Ritter, let's go.” The candidate shook his head and clung to the railing tighter. “Hey! My captain just took off by himself 'cause of you. You get to your feet! Lives are at stake!” Mouch yells at him. “Engine 37, talk to me,” Chief called into the radio. “We're still working our way in, Chief. It's an inferno in here,” Paxson yelled. “Engine 62, put another line up on 20,” Boden ordered. “Copy that.”
“Any news?” Boden asks Jay as he comes back into the building. “Nobody's heard from him. I'm worried he's still inside somewhere. Come on, you must have seen this guy today. Pat Halstead. He's a crusty old pain in the ass. He never smiles. Loves to yell at people,” Jay tells the building manager. “Okay, yeah, yeah. I know the guy. I haven't seen him today,” the manager tells him. “Does he have any friends in the building?” Jay asks. “I see him sometimes pushing Mr. Strouse. He's in a wheelchair. Ronnie Strouse,” the manager rushes. “A guy in a wheelchair? What floor does he live on?” Jay asks. “Uh, 25C. Top floor,” the manager tells him. “That's where he went, for sure,” Jay tells Boden, going to step around the chief and head for the stairs. “Okay. Halstead. I can't have a cop get killed on my fireground. My men will handle it,” Boden stops him, grabbing his arm before he could get very far.
“Fire department, call out!” Matt yells as he searches the hallway. “Casey, what's your location?” Boden asks into the radio. “I'm on 24 looking for the number three car. We can't open the doors. There's no drop-key access,” Matt reports. “Okay. You make your way to unit 25C. Look for a wheelchair-bound resident,” Boden tells him. “Copy that, Chief,” Matt replies and walks further down the hallway, only to be almost blown back by fire erupting. “Chief, I've got fire coming up through a mechanical closet!” Matt reports. “On 24?” Boden asks. “Affirmative! Repeat! The fire has reached the 24th floor! The fire is traveling through the electrical shafts!”
Boden turns to the building manager now. “Is the wiring in this building original?” he asks. “Uh, no, we did a big renovation a while back. Upgraded all the old copper stuff with fiber optics,” the manager tells him. “That stuff's a lot thinner. It leaves gaps. You're supposed to seal those gaps off,” Boden tells him. “Hey, I don't own the place. If they cut corners, I don't know anything about it,” the manager tells him in return. “This is not good. The fire's traveling faster than we thought. To all companies… We are losing control of this thing. Wrap up your searches, retreat below the fire floor until we get another hose line in place,” Boden says into his walkie.
“Come on. Ritter, you heard the Chief. Time is running out,” Mouch tells the candidate, who shakes his head again. “Okay. Okay, Ritter. Here's the deal. I don't like to exert myself unless absolutely necessary, but you're not giving me a lot of options here. If you don't get to your feet…” Mouch trails off. “I'm not like him,” Ritter tells him. “What's that?” Mouch asks. “I'm not that tough. I can't do it. I'm not like him,” Ritter manages to tell him. “Like who?” Mouch asks him. “Uncle Anthony. I called him Superman when I was a kid. He fought fires like this. But my heart won't stop pounding,” Ritter tells him. “Hey. I'm scared too. Any sane person would be. Difference is, civilians panic. Firefighters react. And you are a firefighter. Now you get your ass off that ground and let's go,” Mouch tells him, offering him a hand up.
“All companies, be advised. The missing mother and baby have been… recovered. Continue secondary search for additional victims,” Boden’s voice crackles over the radio. “Hey, how's your air?” Dani asks Herrmann as they walk down a hallway. “I'm good. I got a new tank downstairs. Why, are you low?” he asks in return. Dani looks down at her gauge before nodding. “I, uh… I got a few minutes left,” she tells him. “All right. You know what, forget it. This floor is clear. Let's get below the fire,” he tells her. “Copy that,” she tells him. “Casey, what's your location?” Boden asks. “Just reached the 25th floor, Chief,” Matt tells him, before continuing further into the hallway. He opens the electrical maintenance door and sees sparks fly. “Chief, 25's going to hell now, too. I can't stay long,” he calls out. “Copy that, Casey. Do what you can,” Boden tells him. “Fire department! Call out!” He yells, entering the apartment.
“Over here! Help! He came to get me, but then he collapsed!” a man calls out. “I'm gonna get you both out of here. Chief, I got two victims on 25, Halstead’s father and his friend,” Matt reported. “Good call. What's their condition?” Chief asks. “They're both conscious and responsive, but Mr. Halstead's in rough shape. I need a hand,” Matt tells him. “I'll see who's close by. Any available firefighter to the 25th floor to assist Captain Casey,” Boden called into his walkie. “Hang in there, Pat!” Matt yells as he preps to carry and drag them to safety. He gets partially into the hallway before he has to stop and readjust. “Chief! Is anyone coming?” he asks. “Casey, we're here!” Mouch yells, coming with Ritter behind him. “Mouch, hurry! Take this one!” Matt gestures to Mr. Strouse. “Ready to hoist him up. Okay, stay low!” Mouch tells Ritter as they pick him up and Matt hoists Pat over his shoulder, carrying him out.
“Dad! Is he all right?” Jay asks, spotting them exiting the building. “He was above the fire floor. Swallowed a lot of smoke. Been in and out of consciousness,” Matt tells him. “Casey, thanks, man,” Jay tells him, patting him on the shoulder before looking up at the building, he had still yet to see his little sister in the fray, and tried not to worry, she knew what she was doing. He shook it off as the paramedics began to assess his dad. “Dad! Hey, this is my father. His name is Pat Halstead. He's 64 years old. Listen, he had bypass surgery a month ago. Dad, can you hear me?” he asks. “He looks hypoxic. Let's get him on oxygen,” one of them says. “We can do CO levels and EKG en route, rule out cardiac dysrhythmia,” the medic tells his partner. “I'm, I'm okay, Jay,” Pat Halstead wheezes out. “Dad, Ronnie looks like he's gonna be okay. You did good. You're damn lucky to be alive,” Jay tells him before they load him up. “Pat going to be alright?” Mr. Strouse asks. “They'll take good care of him,” Mouch assures the man before turning to the candidate. “All right, here we go. You just got your first save, pal,” he tells him. “If it wasn't for me freezing up, you would have got there sooner,” Ritter mumbles. “Hey, Ritter. You could spend your life on "ifs" in this job. Don't do it. You hear me?” Mouch tells him and Ritter nods.
“Empty,” Kelly calls as he leaves a room. “Same here,” Cruz tells him. “All right, Chief, Cruz and I are finished on 23. We're coming down now,” Kelly calls into the radio. “Help me!” A faint young voice echoes. “Whoa, whoa, hey, Severide. You hear that?” Cruz asks. “Fire department, call out!” Kelly yells. “Help me, please!” the young voice called. “Where are you?” Kelly yells. “20B!” Kelly looks at the door they were at, 23B. “20B? That's three floors down, that's the fire floor.” Cruz tells him. “Hey, kid, what's your name?” Kelly calls into a vent. “Josh! My mom isn't here and I can't get out!” the kid exclaims. “Josh! Stay right where you are! My name's Kelly. I'm coming down to get you!” The kid yells back okay and the two rescue squad members are on the move again. “Hey, Paxson! Paxson! We need to get in 20B! Can you take us there?” Kelly asked. “We're low on air!” Paxson yells. “I got a young boy trapped inside solo!” Kelly tells him. “We'll get you in, but my guys need relief!” Paxson yells and they begin moving forward. “Hey Chief, Cruz and I are getting the victim on the fire floor, but 37 needs relief on this side line,” Kelly reports. “Herrmann and I are on 19, we'll be right there,” Dani tells him. “All right, we're gonna have to cut across to get to the attack stairwell. Come on,” Herrmann leads.
“Hey! Severide! She's alive!” Cruz yells after pointing out another victim. “All right, here. You take her down. I'll get the kid,” Kelly tells him. “Copy that, be careful!” Cruz tells his Lieutenant. “Hey, Josh, where are you? Josh!” Kelly calls out. “Over here!” Josh yells, coughing. “Hey, bud! Come on. Let me get you out of here.” The fire blazes in the doorway. “Hey. It's getting a little crazy out there, - but we'll get through it, okay?” Kelly reassures the kid. “Hey 37, we're coming out. You ready?” he asks. “Negative! We're pulling back! Stay where you are!” Paxson responds. “What does that mean?” Josh asks. “Don't worry. Help's coming. All right. Hang on a sec,” he tells the kid, going to investigate. “Hey 37, what's your ETA? It's getting a little stuffy in here,” he asks. “The fire is pushing us back! Come on!” Paxson huffs. “Cavalry's arrived. Sit tight, Kelly!” Dani yells as she and Herrmann take over from 37. “Hey, Herrmann, Halstead, I hate to complain, but I got a young boy here,” Kelly tells them. “This thing is a beast! We're coming as fast as we can!” Herrmann exclaims. “This isn't working. I'm gonna bail out,” Kelly tells them. “Kelly, don't do anything stupid! Second line is on its way!” Dani calls out, noticing her air tank warning alarm was beginning to go off.
“What are you gonna do? What's happening?” Josh asks Kelly. “I don't want to wait and see if they can get to us before the fire does. So we're gonna perform what's called a self-rescue. Don't worry. I've done this a bunch. And when we're all done, you'll have a hell of a story to tell your friends,” Kelly tells the kid before prepping the ropes. “All right, come here. Your job is to hold onto me. My job is to hold onto the rope. You got it?” he asks. “I hold onto you and don't let go,” Josh repeated. “No way,” he mutters as he looks out of the window. “Keep your eyes closed,” Kelly tells the kid as he finishes up securing things. “Hey, Halstead, Herrmann, get out of there. Meet me on 19,” Kelly calls into his radio. “One more minute, we got this. Hang on, Severide!” Herrmann calls out. “All right, buddy, it’s all good,” Kelly tells Josh as he begins his descent. “Oh, God,” the kid mutters. “Almost there,” Kelly tells him as he tries to kick in the window but it doesn’t break. “What's wrong?” Josh asks. “Nothing. Nothing, I'm just getting a tool to break the glass.” Kelly breaks the glass and kicks it clear so he can slide in. “Hey, hey. You okay?” he asks the kid. “Severide!” Capp calls as he busts in the door.
Dani could feel the effects caused by lack of oxygen beginning and let go of the hose, moving to try and remove her mask. She was unsuccessful and felt herself falling back before passing out. Herrmann turns to tell Dani to head back down and sees her down. “Mayday, mayday! Halstead is down! I need assistance on 20!” Herrmann calls out, removing her mask and placing his own on her face in the hopes that she hadn’t been down long. “Mayday, mayday!” Herrmann called out again. “Hey, what happened?” Kelly yelled as he got to them, Dani’s pass alarm blaring. “Listen. She ran out of air!” Herrmann tells him. “Come on!” Kelly grabs her by the straps and Herrmann does his best to keep the mask on her. “Okay, clear out! Give us some room! Come on!” Boden yells as he makes a path for his firefighters to carry the youngest Halstead sibling through. “Get her up,” Matt tells them, and the four carrying her lift her onto the stretcher and set her down. “I've got a pulse but she's not breathing. Bag her,” Brett tells Foster. “Got it,” the woman jumped into action. “Her air ran out and she just dropped,” Herrmann tells them. “Come on, Dani,” Kelly mutters as he steps back to allow for Foster to move in with the bag. “Start bagging her, please,” Foster tells Herrmann once she gets it into position. “You got it,” he nods.
“Lieutenant, cut her shirt so I can get the cardiac leads on her,” Foster orders. “Come on, Halstead,” Kelly’s voice wobbled, his eyes glued to her form. “Tube's in. Let's hang a Cyanokit on the way to Med,” Brett tells Foster. “All right, guys, let's get her in the rig,” Foster tells them. They load her up. “Boden, you've done the heavy lifting. I'll take it from here. Go check on your firefighter,” another battalion chief stepped up. “You're sure?” Boden asks. “Go.” Boden nods and turns back to his crew. “Severide, Herrmann. Stay with 61,” he orders. “Yeah come on, let's move,” Kelly says as he climbs up in the ambo. “Come on. Give them an escort,” Matt yells to the others. “I'll drive,” Foster tells Brett. “Thanks,” Brett nods before climbing in the back of the ambo and shutting the door.
“It's Dani… Halstead. She took in a lot of smoke,” Brett tells the emergency room nurses that were with Dr. Choi but chokes up a little. “She had a pulse but wasn't breathing. We intubated, hung a Cyanokit on the rig, her CO is at 40%...” Foster trails off. “Okay. We got her. Let's transfer on my count. One, two, three,” Choi calls out. “Thank you for taking over,” Brett tells Foster, still watching the trauma bay. “I get it. It's family,” Foster tells her, rubbing her shoulder. The rest of the house walks in, some hanging back as Matt goes to Kelly and places a hand on his shoulder. Kelly swallows before shrugging Matt off and turning to Herrmann. “How did you let this happen?” he asks the older man, his eyes watering. “Hey. Severide,” Matt tries to get him to back off. “Huh? You're supposed to have her back, Herrmann!” Kelly shouts. “She didn't tell me that her alarm went off,” Herrmann’s voice shuddered a little. “She was trying to save you.”

Cereal Aisle Meet Cute
Kelly x reader
WC: 810
Requested fill
---
You were walking down the cereal aisle trying to finish your grocery shopping as quickly as possible. About an aisle and a half ago you'd started feeling nauseous and it was only getting worse.
The further you walked the more you felt like you were struggling to drag your feet any further.
Next, you noticed a building headache and the shakes. The jittery feeling was what had you remembering you'd barely eaten breakfast in your rush to get out of the house.
Before you could decide what to do next, your vision was tunneling and you felt like you were spinning then it was dark.
Opening your eyes, you were greeted by concerned green eyes looking down at you. You quickly realized you were laying on the floor. “Oh, no.” This had to be the most embarrassing moment of your life. You tried to sit up but the stranger stopped you.
“Don't move,” he ordered. He was pressing something to your forehead.
“I'm fine.” You tried to argue.
He looked like he didn't believe you. “You hit your head pretty hard when you fell. Let me check for a concussion first.”
You snorted. “What are you, a doctor?”
Flashing you a cocky smirk, he shook his head. “No, I'm a firefighter. My name is Kelly, what's yours?”
You introduced yourself as you realized you'd been staring at him.
He let go of the pressure on your head and placed his fingers in both of your hands. “Can you squeeze my fingers?”
You did as he asked while arguing, “I really am fine. I think I just didn't eat breakfast… low blood sugar.”
He nodded, guiding you hand to hold the cloth, or maybe a napkin, against your forehead. “Follow my finger.”
Again, you did as he asked.
He pulled his phone out his pocket and turned on the flashlight. He shined the light in your eyes and pain exploded across your head. “Ouch. Jesus, why did that hurt so much?”
“Because you have a concussion. I'm going to call you an ambulance.”
“Ugh,” you groaned. “Is that necessary? I really think I'll be fine.”
“That gash in your head is probably going to need stitches and you have a concussion. You need a head CT to check for a brain bleed,” he explained.
“Oh.” Suddenly you were trying not to panic. You couldn't bleed to death in a cereal aisle. That had to be the most embarrassing death possible.
“Hey, just breathe,” Kelly soothed, pulling your attention back. “It's not likely but there is a small possibility, best to be safe.” He dialed as held the phone up to his ear quickly giving your location and explaining what happened.
Now knowing how bad this could be, you were trying not to panic. You could feel yourself starting to wheeze with quick breaths.
“Deep breaths, sweetheart. Just follow me.” He grabbed your hand and pressed it to his chest. He took exaggerated deep breaths for you to follow.
“Is there anyone you want me to call to meet you at the hospital?” he asked, possibly in an attempt to distract you.
You shook your head. “No. I just moved here six months ago.” You tried to take a deep breath. “The only people I know are my coworkers.”
By the time you'd calmed down the paramedics were there. They greeted Kelly like they were best friends and something about that helped you to finally relax.
You weren't sure when you'd grabbed onto Kelly's hand but as they rolled you out of the store you realized you were squeezing it hard. You eased the pressure off and quickly apologized to him.
“Squeeze all you need to, I can take it.” He winked at you and let go of your hand as the medics loaded the stretcher into the ambulance. He climbed in and sat beside you taking your hand once more.
You furrowed your eyebrows. “What are you doing?”
“Riding to the hospital with you,” he stated as if it was the most obvious thing.
“You don't have to do that. I'm sure you have better things to do with your day.”
“Unless you want me to leave, I don't have anything else to do. You shouldn't have to be alone.”
You sighed a breath of relief. “Thanks.”
Eight Months Later
Kelly walked into the bedroom where you were getting ready to go grocery shopping with him. He leaned close and pressed a kiss to your cheek. “Did you eat breakfast? I don't need you fainting on me at the store.”
Rolling your eyes, you grumbled. “One time and you never live it down.”
He just chuckled as he pulled you into a hug. “I'll stop teasing you… some day.”
“Sure, you will.” You pull him in and kiss him. “I don't regret that skipped breakfast. It's the reason I met you.”
