Chicago P.D's Men as Your Older Brother
Wordcount: 1547. 230-290 each.
Reader's age and gender are not specified. The timelines may give a hint about the age differences, though.
Kevin Atwater
Raising 3 siblings was definitely not in Kevin's life plan. He has always been a good brother, but there's a huge difference between a brother and a father. Despite his insecurities, he did a good job. Kevin raised you, Vinessa, and Jordan with all the love in the world. Food, clothes, toys, birthday parties, doctor appointments, school work, he did it all. And he would do it again and again if it meant seeing you and your siblings growing up happy and healthy. When your father came back from prison, it took a toll on all of you. While Kevin tried to deal with his own unresolved feelings about your dad, you had a weird feeling growing in your chest.
“Who is this man? He is not my father, at least I don't feel like he is,” you told Kevin one afternoon after he mentioned your father wanted to meet. Kevin and Vinessa agreed with you, not really knowing how to feel towards the man.
“You raised us, Kev,” you said, looking into his eyes. “We never called you dad because you've always been Kev, our big brother. But you've been a dad to us all along.”
Later that night, you all got to an agreement: to give your father a chance. But he would never be number one. Ever. Kevin is and always going to be number one in your hearts.
Jay Halstead
It's no surprise to anyone that being a Halstead comes with a package: a talent for trouble and two very, extremely, unnecessarily protective older brothers. Jay and Will made sure everyone knew not to mess with you or things would get ugly really fast. Kids at school knew you had a cop and a doctor as your brothers, and you knew that was the reason no one ever laid a finger on you. This whole protective thing goes both ways, though. Jay will never forget the day you got home from a party with a busted lip. The reason? Apparently, to defend him.
“What?” the look of disbelief on his face was priceless. If this wasn't a serious conversation, you would be laughing your ass off. “Defending me? What do you mean?”
“We were talking, and suddenly the conversation shifted to police. This guy started shit-talking that all cops were dirty and did nothing for the city. Never in a million years could I stand there and say nothing!” you said in exasperation. “I told them how my brother saves lives every day and how much you and your team sacrifice for this city.”
Jay just stood there. His fingers came to rest on the bridge of his nose. Damn, he couldn't say he wasn't proud, but at the same time…
“Kid, that's nice and all, but would you mind not getting into fights on my behalf ever again? Jesus!”
Antonio Dawson
The Dawson siblings… your parents had no idea they would have to deal with 3 souls that feared absolutely nothing. Being the youngest definitely helped you feel even bolder. Having Antonio and Gabby protect you from everything and everyone made you feel like the safest person on earth. Growing up is never easy, but being a Dawson prepared you for a lot. With Gabby being in CFD and Antonio in CPD, your parents wondered if you would follow your sibling's footsteps. When the moment came to choose your profession, they were worried that would be the case. You, however, have no idea where your passion lies.
“You don't have to be so worried about this, kid,” Antonio said from his spot on the couch.
“How can I not, Tonio?”
“Come here, sit down,” he said, patting the spot beside him. You went and sat beside him. “It's perfectly normal to feel lost about all this. It's not an easy decision. “
“It was easy for you and Gabby. You always knew what you wanted to do.”
“That means nothing. Do you think we never had doubts? That we didn't struggle?” Antonio held your face in his hands. “You have our support. Always. It doesn't matter what you choose to do.”
“He's right,” Gabby said, having arrived in the room just now. “We love you, and we're going to help you find your way.”
Hank Voight
Losing a parent is something that can change someone’s entire life. You and Hank had to deal with the loss of your dad when you were both too young to even understand why he died. You and Hank were really different, but you both shared the wish to become police. To protect the city like your father did. Being the oldest, Hank became a mentor to you. He was there for you in every step of your career, being your biggest supporter. Being police somehow strengthened your bond and you guys grew closer as the years went by. You could be yourself without any fear with him, and he felt the same. When your brother lost the love of his life, his wife Camille, you were the only person he would open up to.
“I don’t know what to do,” Hank stared at you for the first time that evening. He’s been avoiding you since the funeral that morning. You knew he was scared to pour out his emotions, afraid he wouldn’t be able to keep going if he let himself feel all that pain.
“I’m here, Hank,” you held his hands that rested on the table.
“Do you remember how you felt when dad died?” Hank asked you.
“What? No… We were so young.”
“Exactly. I don’t remember hurting his much, you know?”
You felt your eyes fill with tears at his words. You got up and embraced him in a hug, hoping to pass him some comfort. “We’re going to be okay, brother. I got you.”
Adam Ruzek
As surprising as it may sound, having an older brother who never leaves you alone and is devoted to annoy you is not that bad. You were a really introverted kid, and for years Adam was your only friend. You were still a baby when your parents divorced. This made things even more complicated between them, but Adam has always been there for you. He held your hand when you walked for the first time. He taught you how to ride a bike and how to play football. Your dad always watched you two with fondness in his eyes. The three of you were pretty close. Bob was not perfect, but he tried his best. He knew that Adam felt like he had to protect you from everything, but sometimes that went too far.
“Adam, for the last time, tell me where the hell are they!” Bob was starting to lose his patience.
“Dad, I told you I don’t know.”
“You’re 20, for god's sake! You should stop covering for them.”
Adam choose to stay silent this time. They’ve been at it for 30 minutes now, and he already used all his excuses.
“Fine, you want me to go to the police station? I can find them and cause a scene, sending police cars to wherever they are!”
Adam’s eyes widened at this, he knew it was a lost battle now. He told your dad about the party you went to, already feeling sorry for all the scolding you’d get the next days. Later that night, Adam apologized for not being able to hold your dad longer.
You looked at him with a big smile on your face, “It’s okay, Adam. Do you wanna know how my date went?”
Dante Torres
Life could be hard. Too damn hard. You and Dante knew that very well. From a young age, both of you had to learn how to survive in a world where kids like you two were constantly thrown under the bus. Being a foreigner in the US was hard enough, but also being poor and living with an abusive stepfather made things worse. Dante had to grow up faster than usual. He had to become someone that you and your mother could rely on, even though he was way too young for any of this. Juvie. Gangs. You never lost hope that Dante would leave that life, find a good job, and be happy. The day he got into the academy was one of the happiest days of your life. Seeing him later in Intelligence made you so damn proud.
“I can't believe they're giving you a permanent spot!” you were jumping into his arms before he could cross the threshold.
“You saw my message?” Dante said with a smile, hugging you back.
“Of course I did! You got the job, I'm so proud of you!”
“Where's mom?” Dante asked, stepping back from the hug and closing the door. You could tell he was a little overwhelmed with the news himself.
“She will be back soon. We have a surprise for you,” you said nonchalantly.
“What? You guys didn't have to give me anything.”
“Don't worry, bald head,” you used the nickname he hated so much. “We want to treat you, for everything you did for us.”
You approached him again and held his hand, “We love you, and we're so proud.”
“I love you guys too.” Dante smiled down at you. “But never call me bald head again.”
“Okay, bald head.”
Please accept this post as my apology for being MIA… I had this idea the other day so I decided to write it.
I’m aware that Adam has a sister that was mentioned in the show, but I don’t remember much about her, so that’s why she wasn’t mentioned. The same goes for his mother. For the others, I tried to include their parents and siblings as much as I could.
Chapter 4 of Upstead Foster Daughter is half written because I want it to be longer than the others, but inspiration hasn't hit me in a while.
Thank you again for all the love on my fics. It means a lot to me seeing all the likes and reblogs ♡

Congrats on 1k!
🍨 Taste -Sabrina Carpenter
With Adam Ruzek or Kelly Severide please!!
A/N: I chose Adam, hope you don't mind. I also mean no hate to him at all, he just made this most sense. Thank you so much for ordering. I've written this after one of the most tiring weeks of my life so I hope this is up to standards. Enjoy!!
🍨🍨🍨🍨🍨
i heard your back together and if that's true
It had been two months since your break up and you'd been dealing with it better than you had been expecting. You weren't crying constantly and your moping lasted no longer than two weeks.
But just because you were fully healed and over your ex boyfriend didn't mean that you didn't feel some sort of way when you found out he had already moved on with someone else.
And this just wasn't any someone, it was his ex girlfriend, the one he was dating before you, the one he told you to never worry about.
You could only scoff when you saw them together at your local café, your sister holding back her laughter when she caught them first.
You'll just have to taste me when he's kissin' you
There was a sick little part of you that had you thinking that, maybe this new relationship was exactly the revenge you needed on him.
You two had been together for nearly three years, being together for such a long period of time that everyone thought a proposal was imminent.
You had done so much together, had accomplished so many milestones together. Without a doubt, you left a significant mark on him and his life that he could never erase.
And you couldn't help but think that maybe you still impacted his life because certain habits of his were clearly influenced by you.
When they were together out and about, they were doing the things you both used to do. There was no doubt that you were an unwilling third person in their relationship.
if you want forever, and i bet you do
He mentioned it briefly before when you first started dating that one of the reasons he broke it off was because she wanted to get married and he just wasn't ready for that yet.
It seems that even several years later, some things never changed.
And you knew exactly how she felt - to be so deeply in love with a single man that its impossible to ask you not to imagine the rest of your life together.
just know you'll taste me too
You couldn't help but smirk at the way Adam's eyes lingered on your table as they were leaving, his girl clearly noticing as her brows furrowed before huffing and dramatically pulling him into a passionate kiss.
His eyes fluttered closed but hers remained firmly on you.
You continued to smile, waving at her with your fingers before sipping your coffee, your sister now openly cackling.
Her response was to angrily stomp out, her hand clawing his bicep as she dragged him outside.
Every time you close your eyes and feel his lips, you're feelin' mine
You watched from afar as time passed, their relationship developing and blossoming but, your 'presence' weighed heavy.
Every time they kissed, whether it be a quick peck or a long make out session in 'private', she always came out unsatisfied, conflict written all over her face.
Your satisfaction only grew. After the break up, you were now thriving but the same couldn't be said for the two of them.
And every time you breathe his air just know I was already there
You couldn't help but think, indulgently, if there was still traces of you left behind. Luckily for you, the tells were very telling.
Adam still using your portable coffee mug, the Lego figure on his keys, the shirts you gifted him still in rotation and the list goes on.
They were living together at this point, and you had no doubt that wherever she went in his apartment, pieces of you were most likely still laying around, forever taunting her.
You can have him if you like. I've been there, done that once or twice
You couldn't understand her obsession.
At first, you somewhat got it. Even you were like that a little bit at the beginning of your relationship, contemplating on his ex due to your insecurities.
But now, this was slightly worrying. Yet, you couldn't stop yourself from feeling a little bit of pride.
If you could confront her somehow, reassure her girl-to-girl that she could have him. You were happy for her to take him off your hands, then you would, one hundred percent, take up the opportunity.
But you enjoyed being one her mind 24/7. It made you feel ways that Adam never had in all the three years you two were together.
You had been with him for more than long enough and life now was better than ever. If she wanted him that badly, then she could have him, no words needed.
And singin' 'bout it don't mean I care. Yeah, I know I've been known to share
One year after Adam and his new girl getting together, you sat in Molly's with someone new too.
It had only been two months, this was all fairly new but you had some hope that this could be good. You were excited about what your future together could look like, the butterflies in your stomach being very much missed.
Mumbling a quick thanks under your breath, you pressed a quick kiss onto his cheek, your giddy smile hidden by the glass rim as he looked at you in amusement but a soft look in his eyes and the warmest smile.
You could feel both pairs of eyes trained onto you as he sat down next to you, his arm going around the back of your chair, his hand resting comfortingly on your shoulder.
"Everything okay?" He asked, noticing you zoning out slightly.
You hummed, softly smiling up at who you hoped would be your boyfriend.
"Yes." You nodded, this man being the only important person as the other two faded into the background. "Everything's perfect."
Jay smiled, pressing a longing kiss on your temple, making you feel all warm and gooey on the inside before resuming his conversation with his brother.
Sipping your wine, all you could feel was the tingling Jay left behind on your lips. All you could taste was him.

Adam Ruzek x Fem!Reader
Requested by @maximeseveridecasey
It was date night. You looked forward to this night for a long time, but when it came to finding an outfit, you couldn’t find anything that fit you right. Being almost seven months pregnant, your regular clothes didn’t fit you anymore. Your belly protruded out too far. As you tried on outfit after outfit, you started to get frustrated, slamming things down on the bed, tears coming to your eyes. Nothing you had looked good enough, in your opinion.
From downstairs, Adam could hear your cries of frustration. He frowned, grabbing the large plate of food he’d been making for the two of you. Seeing as your date was a movie, you’d both decided to eat beforehand. He climbed the stairs slowly, listening to you rip the clothes off your body and start to sob. He knocked softly on the door as he entered, setting the plate down on the dresser and walking over to you. “Hey baby…” he sat beside you on the bed, setting a hand on the back of your head. “What’s the matter?”
You started to sob, leaning into his shoulder. “Nothing fits right! None of my regular clothes fit and my maternity clothes don’t look good!”
Adam hummed and rubbed your back, stroking your hair. “I think you look good no matter what. Besides, the theater is dark. Who cares how you look?”
You shook your head. “I can tonight, I-I just can’t!” You cried harder, Adam pulling you closer and gently shushing you.
“Hey, alright… We won’t go anywhere. Why don’t we run you a bath instead?”
You sniffled, nodding a little. Adam got up and helped you to your feet, leading you into the bathroom. You couldn’t face yourself in the mirror, so you watched him turn on the water instead.
As it was running, he walked over to you. “Turn around for me.”
You frowned, but reluctantly turned around, looking down at the sink.
Adam wrapped his arms around you, specifically around the underside of your belly, lifting the weight of the baby off of you. Immediately, you were relieved, leaning back into him as his body pressed against you. He kissed your neck and whispered in your ear. “You aren’t alone. I’m your husband. I made vows to you to always love you and keep you safe and happy. I love you no matter what your body looks like. Besides, you’re carrying our child. The product of our love. How could I not love you? How could I ever think you’re ugly? Hmm?” He nuzzled your neck, kissing at it between statements. “I love you, (Y/N) Ruzek. You took my last name and stole my heart.”
You blushed heavily, tears streaking down your face at the kind words your husband spoke. Maybe it was just the hormones getting to you. You had no idea why you were so sensitive. You wiped tears from your eyes and let out a shaky breath. “Thank you, Adam…” you whispered.
“Anything for you.” Then, he slowly set your belly down, fixing the bath up for you with some epsom salts and essential oils that you liked. He helped you into the tub when you were ready, then sat beside the tub, helping you to wash your hair. He massaged your scalp as you relaxed in the tub, the Epsom salts helping with your back pain. You nearly fell asleep beside Adam there, finally relaxed. When he finished washing your hair, he put in some conditioner, clipping it up and kissing your cheek. “I’ll be back in a minute.”
Adam left you in the tub to soak, cleaning up your bedroom from the mess you’d made, making your bed, and grabbing some comfy clothes for you, including one of his own hoodies. Then, he walked back in with the plate of food. “Here baby, I know you’re hungry.”
You smiled. “You know me so well.”
“That’s why I married you.” He smiled and kissed you softly, then fed you as you relaxed in the warm water.
.
When the two of you were finished eating, Adam helped you out of the tub, and helped to dry you off and get you dressed. Then, he took you to the bed and kissed you deeply. “What do you want to do now?”
“Can you paint my toes?” You asked, cupping his face and stroking his cheeks with your thumbs. “Then kiss me and never let me go?”
Adam smiled and nodded. “I think I could make that work,” he teased. “Still hungry?”
“Yeah, a little.”
“Let me make you something else to eat and I’ll grab the stuff from downstairs. What color do you want?”
“My favorite color.”
Adam laughed softly and nodded. “Your favorite color it is.” He left for fifteen minutes, then came back with another plate of food and nail polish, along with a towel to put your feet on.
You munched on the sandwich Adam had made you, watching as he painted your toes. “You wanna know something?”
“Hmm?” Adam glanced up.
“Every time you kiss me like you did earlier, the baby kicks.”
Adam smiled. “Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
“Then I’ll kiss you like that all the time.”
You giggled as he moved up and kissed you deeply, you wrapping a hand around to the nape of his neck, running your fingers through his hair.
—
Months later…
—
You sighed, not feeling well as you sat at your desk. Grabbing the stack of envelopes beside you, you decided to stretch your legs. Something didn’t feel right and you couldn’t place it. You walked through the firehouse and into the common area where most of the men were. “Hey guys,” you said, sorting through the envelopes. “Payday.”
All of them turned their attention to you as you passed out the checks, getting various remarks and thanks in return. When you got to the bunks, you slid Casey’s check beneath his office door, seeing as he was napping inside. Moving over to Kelly’s door, you stepped into the doorway, which was open. “Hey Kelly,” you said with a smile. The two of you had been friends a long time, and even dated back in the day before you met Adam. “Here’s your check.” You handed the last envelope to him.
“Hey, thanks,” he said with a smile, looking up at you. “How you doing?”
You groaned slightly. “I feel horrible. Like I’m about to-“ Just then, you felt a gush from between your legs. You frowned, looking down as your pants soaked. “Shit…” you mumbled.
Kelly looked up at you. “Did… your water just break?”
You grabbed onto the doorway. “I think… Maybe Shay and Dawson should take me to the hospital.”
“Yeah,” Kelly said, standing and offering his arm to you. You quickly took it, Kelly helping you into the bay and to the back of the ambulance, sitting you on the bumper. “Stay here, I’m going to find Dawson, Shay and the Chief.”
You groaned, leaning back on the ambo. Within thirty seconds, Leslie was sprinting to see you, Dawson on her heels. Kelly and Boden were close behind. Leslie and Dawson took your vitals, then helped you into the ambo.
Leslie sat beside you as Gabby drove you to the hospital. She smiled. “You ready to have a baby, (Y/N)?”
You groaned. “I need someone to call Adam. I need him.”
“I know honey,” Leslie said, nodding and grabbing your phone from your pocket. “We’ll call him right now.” She dialed Adam’s number, putting it on speaker.
“Hey, baby, what’s up?” Adam’s voice came through.
“A-Adam, I’m going to the hospital. I’m in labor.”
There was silence from the other end for a moment before there was rustling. “I’m on my way. Which hospital?”
“Med,” Leslie said. “Chicago Med, Adam.”
“Got it. See you there. I love you, baby.” Adam then hung up.
—
Finally, after an intensive labor, you got to hold your baby. A little girl. You named her Leslie, after your best friend. Adam was alright with this, seeing as Shay had been a huge help and influence in your life, even before you married him, though you promised to let him name your next child.
Adam sat at your side, holding you and kissing your sweating face. “She’s beautiful,” he whispered in your ear.
“Yeah,” you whispered back, smiling tiredly at your child, enthralled with her and how beautiful she was.
.
A few hours later, you were resting with Leslie in the bassinet beside you. That’s when Leslie, your best friend, came in to visit you. She smiled and sat beside you first. “Hey, how are you?”
“Mmn, tired,” you replied softly, smiling at her, then at your baby. “Adam got called into work, it was really important, but I’m glad he was here while I was in labor. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without him.”
“I know, sweetie,” Leslie replied, smiling. “She’s beautiful, though.”
“Takes after her namesake.” You winked at Shay, who laughed softly with you, stroking your hair.
“Rest.”
“I will,” you replied, closing your eyes and holding her hand softly.

• Pairing: Adam Ruzek x Female!Reader.

• Warnings: maybe few curse words
• Word count: 3,7K.
• A/N: hope you enjoy it! Comment, reblogs and likes are highly appreciated, I love you all <3
A thousand thoughts ran through your brain but all of them ended the same way.
How the hell did I end up in this situation?
Fate must’ve played some tricks, you must’ve committed some crime in your past life because there must’ve been a serious reason why you had found yourself stuck on a damn Ferris wheel. Suspended in the air.
There had to be a reason, because what were the odds that the Ferris wheel would stuck in mid-air just when it was your turn to take a ride.
And there had to be an equally precise reason why, among so many people, it was Adam Ruzek you were stuck with.
God probably hated you, there was no other explanation, he wanted to take revenge for some wrong things you had done and make atonement for your sins.
Why the fuck did you let yourself be convinced to get in that damned killing machine? Whose brilliant idea was it? And why with Adam among everyone?
That evening you had decided to go to a fair with your friends and some of your colleagues including Adam, Jay, Vanessa, Kim and Hailey, a good opportunity to spend time together without there being any robbery or murder to solve.
The atmosphere was light, the fair was overflowing with people who couldn't wait to try all the attractions there. Somehow you managed to avoid everything that required going ‘up’ but couldn’t escape the damn Ferris wheel.
The queue was very long and you had tried several times to escape but the words of your friends convinced you to at least make an attempt since it was quiet and the ride wouldn't last more than five minutes.
The entire Ferris wheel consisted of five small cabins that could accommodate a maximum of two people at a time and you couldn’t even ask to any of them, that the pairs had already been formed and you and Adam found yourselves exchanging annoyed glances, both being the only ones left.
You didn't ignore the giggles and looks your friends sent to both of you, making you realize they had deliberately done it to let you and Adam be alone.
Your relationship with him was, well… Weird, to say at least.
The bickering between you two was the order of the day, there was nothing you said that he didn't laugh at, making fun of you at every chance he got. That man could zap every single nerve in your body and drive you crazy with just one word and you hated him for that.
And the fact you were tremendously attracted to him despite this didn't work in your favor.
He was equally attracted to you, which is why one night – dead drunk – you ended up in his bed and woke up the next day with feelings of guilt and shame and pretended you didn't even know each other. This however didn’t last long as he wasted no time in returning to bother you and argue, making your life at work a living hell.
Adam drove you crazy, he always managed to confuse you, especially when he went from wanting to argue to making sexual jokes and flirting with you and then go back to arguing in a small amount of time.
You hated him, you hated how he made you feel and you hated yourself even more because despite this you couldn't help but be deeply attracted to him, to the point that everyone – both colleagues and your friends – did nothing but tease you and do everything to get you and Adam together, claiming to stop acting stupid because you both clearly wanted each other.
And that's how you ended up stuck on a damn Ferris wheel with the person you most wanted to be away from, about to have a panic attack.
“Fuck, fuck, fuck,” you muttered to yourself when everything stopped suddenly. You looked around, realizing with horror you were several meters above the ground, suspended in mid-air in a cabin that continued to oscillate with every slightest gust of wind.
You pressed your back against the seat, closing your eyes and taking deep breaths, feeling the panic starting to build up inside you.
Saying you were absolutely terrified of heights was an understatement.
Adam, however, remained impassive, only huffing at the annoyance of having to be stuck there and rolled his eyes when he noticed your eyes were closed and you refused to open them. “Oh don't be dramatic now. It’s just a stupid Ferris wheel, we’ll get down soon.”
“Adam just shut the fuck up if you don't have anything smart to say,” you spat through clenched teeth, a mix of emotions between pure terror and anger coursing through you.
Adam chuckled, clearly amused by the situation. “Our little detective is afraid of heights isn't she?”.
He looked at you carefully and saw you open your eyelids as you looked up at the ceiling and continued to take deep breaths. You didn't answer him, that's why he decided continuing to tease you was great idea.
“Stop being a pussy and enjoy the view instead. Don't think I like the idea of being stuck with you either.”
Adam didn't really mean it, he wasn't really mad at you, he just madly loved making you angry and teasing you until you’d explode. You were so hot and sexy when you were angry and all worked up, he couldn't help himself even though he was aware he was being an asshole 99% of the time.
He ignored the part of his conscience that told him this was just a way to get you to stay away from him because he didn't have the strength to do it, because for some absurd reason you attracted him like a moth was attracted to the light.
He tried to convince himself it was just physical attraction, although he knew full well what he felt for you was deeper than that.
But this time you didn't respond to any of his taunts, your fear too strong to even think about what he said.
Adam continued to look at you and noticed the way your chest rose and fell quickly, your breathing was frantic, your hands continued to shake despite being clenched into fists, your gaze fixed on the ceiling. The smirk he had plastered on his face slowly disappeared when he realized it wasn't just a little fear, you were completely terrified.
“You okay?” He tried to ask you stupidly. It was clear you weren’t okay at all.
Anxiety was hardly twisting your stomach you feared you’d vomit on his shoes at any moment. Nausea was paralyzing you and the dizziness made your head spin so much you thought you’d pass out right then and there.
You didn't know why you were so afraid of heights, why the fear paralyzed you to the point you couldn't move a muscle and made your heart beat so fast it almost stopped. You just wanted to go down and put your feet on dry land and kill whoever had convinced you to get on that thing.
“Y/n. You hear me?!” Adam's urgent voice brought you back to reality for a moment. You shook your head, tears pricking your eyes which you kept opening and closing in an attempt to calm yourself a bit.
Adam realized you were about to have a panic attack so without even thinking twice, he knelt down in front of you and placed his hands on your knees, worried. “Hey look at me.”
But you couldn't seem to hear him, your body was there but your mind had flown away.
“Y/n look at me please,” he continued, but kept his voice calm so as not to make the situation worse. You opened your eyes and looked at him, too anxious and terrified to realize what he was doing. His eyes shone as they looked at you with concern, making you think for a few seconds how rare that way of looking at you was.
“Breathe with me okay?” He inhaled deeply and exhaled slowly. “Let's do this together, breathe with me. Breathe in…” he said “C’mon, you can do it angel. I’m here with you.”
Your eyes let out some tears and he raised a hand, gently wiping them away and making you lose your mind even more.
“It's okay, you're not alone. I'm right here.”
Was this man really Adam Ruzek? The same Adam who made your life impossible? The same obnoxious Adam?
You couldn’t believe it but you were too scared to react.
“C’mon, breathe with me,” he smiled faintly to encourage you and you nodded, starting to inhale deeply and following him, letting the air out of your lungs.
Your eyes never left each other for a second as he stayed there with you making you take deep breaths, slowly getting your breathing back to a normal pace.
“You're doing great, just keep going,” he murmured as he continued to look at you and smile comfortingly. His thumbs caressed your knees and for some strange, absurd reason this gesture comforted you more than the breathing exercises you had done up until that moment.
“Everything will be fine you hear me? They'll start this piece of junk again and we'll get out of here before you know it. Nothing will happen, you’re safe,” he spoke as his eyes scanned your facial features carefully. He tried to ignore how beautiful you were under those lights, you were so breathtaking and he couldn't stop looking at you. “I won't let anything happen to you.”
What the hell?
I won't let anything happen to you? Really Adam?
You remained silent for a few moments as your blurry eyes got lost in his. You wanted so much to be able to read inside him, to know what he thought, how he felt as he looked at you but you couldn't. God, that man was such a mystery.
You knew he was telling you those things just to make you calm down but you couldn't help but wonder if deep down he really meant those words. For an instant you convinced yourself he did, your heart wanted to think for just a second he had feelings for you.
Adam swallowed the lump in his throat, trying to stop the thoughts that tortured his mind at the moment. His expression seemed calm, but an exhausting battle between was taking place inside him.
He struggled between the desire to have you, to just kiss you right there, and the desire to stay away from you because you truly were the most annoying person on the planet sometimes.
He looked away as he sat next to you on that narrow seat no longer able to maintain eye-contact without fear of doing or saying something stupid.
A sudden gust of wind made the small cabin sway considerably, plunging you into complete panic again and almost making your heart stop beating.
A scream of terror escaped you and before you even realized it, you threw yourself into Adam's arms, looking for some kind of protection.
Adam was a little taken aback at first, not expecting this in any way but he returned that hug, wrapping his arms around your shoulders and holding you tightly to him as his fingers caressed you in an attempt to calm you down.
“Shh it's okay, it was just a little wind. We're fine,” he whispered to you, mentally praying you couldn't hear how hard his heart was beating. That was the first time you had hugged in the years you had known each other and he was about to lose his mind.
“Adam, p-please… I want to get off…” you muttered desperately, your face pressed against his chest as you trembled like a leaf.
His heart sank at the sight. You had always been so strong and brave in his eyes, as if nothing could affect you, so seeing you in that state caused him a sensation he hated, and that he was sure he’d never want to feel again in his life.
“Hey, hey, hey, it's okay. I'm here okay? You’ll be fine, they’re all working to get us all down. I promise it’ll be over soon,” he whispered, stroking your arms and tightening his grip around you even more. “Talk to me, don't shut yourself down.”
“I don’t know what to say…”
“Anything you want, just focus on me.”
You thought about it for a second and told him the first thing that came to mind. “At one point I thought about throwing you off this damn Ferris wheel.”
His chest vibrated as he laughed and you found yourself smiling back, turning serious right back when you realized what you were doing.
Your mind had decided to turn itself off when you realized what was happening: you were hugging Adam and the thing shocked you the most was that you felt really good in his arms. In other moments you probably would’ve walked away but right then you didn't want to think about it, he managed to calm you down and you needed it.
Adam leaned his head against yours, the skin of his cheek slightly pinched by your hair as he involuntarily inhaled the scent of it.
God what am I doing?
What are you doing to me Y/n?
“Well, now is a good time if you want.”
“Don't tempt me, I could actually do it and plead insanity.”
You then took a deep breath as your heartbeat returned to a normal pace and the agitation slowly passed. For the first time since you'd met, you and Adam were able to have a conversation where neither of you let out insults or threatened to put a bullet in the other's foot.
You couldn't understand how much time had passed since the Ferris wheel had stopped but thanks to Adam you managed not to think about it as he talked to you the whole time to keep you distracted.
“Can I ask you a question?” You dared to ask after a small moment of silence. You were still sitting next to each other, his arms around you and your head resting on his chest and you were almost afraid to move, fearing he’d let you go if you did.
“Hmm,” he hummed positively as his eyes looked around the cabin.
“Why do you hate me?” You asked in a voice so low you feared he hadn't heard you, your breath caught in your throat.
“I could ask you the same question.”
“I don't hate you... Well yes, but I hate you because you hate me and because you’ve been an asshole since the first day I joined the team.”
He rolled his eyes. “You’re so dramatic. C’mon...”
“Adam,” you interrupted him with firm tone.
He chuckled. “Okay, okay, maybe just a little bit.”
“And why? I don't think I've ever done anything to you.”
Silence reigned supreme for a few seconds while he reflected on your words, his eyes observing the metallic ceiling.
Why did he hate you?
He had asked himself this many times but he had never been able to give himself an answer. He didn't know the real reason, you were right, you had never done anything to him, you had always been kind to everyone from the first moment. But then why?
Maybe because it easier, maybe because he knew from the very beginning you were going to mess up his whole life so hating you was the best thing he could do to keep you away, to not let himself fall for you.
But however, this inevitably happened against the odds and his will.
You took courage and raised your head slightly to look at him and at that same moment his eyes met yours. You were incredibly close, closer than you ever would’ve been even if you were drunk.
His breath tickled your lips as his eyes looked at you with so much intensity so felt like a thousand-volt electrical discharge went though your body, as if he was somehow trying to read your soul.
What the hell are you thinking about Adam?
His eyes were so hard to read, so enigmatic. They were like a puzzle and you struggled to find the necessary pieces to be able to complete it and understand what he was thinking and feeling.
He moved his gaze between your eyes and your lips, trying to maintain a neutral expression even if every cell in his body screamed to close that little gap and press his lips to yours.
But he couldn't, especially not at that moment.
And, above all, why did he think ‘not at that moment’? Did this mean he actually wanted to kiss you?
It was a question he didn't even try to answer, his mind was too clouded to think logically.
One of his hands moved to your face and with a gentleness you struggled to recognize he caressed your cheek, fixing some small, messy locks of hair. Your breathing stopped and your heart started wildly pounding again, this time not because of the dizziness and the fear of falling down.
You were paralyzed under his intense and magnetic gaze, you wanted so much to be able to say something, to break that deafening silence but the words inevitably died in your throat.
He continued to alternate his gaze between your eyes and your lips, you actually unaware of the internal battle he was eagerly fighting.
Anyone who saw you two would think this was just a romantic moment that a couple in love was sharing, anyone could see the way you both looked at each other and no one would’ve doubted you actually hated each other.
Or at least that's what you thought.
You thought you hated him.
You forced yourself to do it, as if to reciprocate his hatred, because of the way he treated you.
But you didn't hate him, not as much as you wanted to. Sure, he made your blood boil in your veins like very few other people in the world did, there were countless times when you would’ve punched him in the face after some of his pranks, but you couldn't deny how much you desired that man just as intensely.
“What are you thinking about?” He whispered as he continued to covertly caress your face. Suddenly, however, he moved his hand away, making you instantly feel the feeling of emptiness and cold that his touch had left. His fingers trailed down to your hand, still clenched into a fist without realizing it.
“What are you thinking?” You whispered back as you saw his lips part slightly. His fingers lightly caressed your skin, almost as imperceptibly as he had done to your cheek and you relaxed almost instantly, making you subconsciously hate yourself for the way your body responded so easily to him.
“Don't answer a question with another question.” His lips lifted into a small smirk and your heart simultaneously came out of your rib cage and crashed onto the asphalt.
His fingers played with yours for a while, his fingertips dragging over your skin, as if studying every feature and little imperfection. Your stomach twisted on itself as he intertwined his fingers with yours and squeezed your hand, drawing little imaginary circles on it with his thumb.
“Says the one who still haven't answered my initial question,” you replied in the same mischievous tone.
“Touché,” he chuckled “I guess… I just think it was easier.”
You frowned a little bit and he refrained himself from kiss it away.
“Easier?”.
He didn't answer this question, leaving it still hanging in the air. But the he leaned even closer to you, almost imperceptibly but when his lips lightly brushed yours, you forgot what that question was and even your damn name. “Push me away angel.”
You didn't do it even though you knew you had to.
Your brain was aware of it but your body couldn't move, instead it continued to crave his touch, his mouth on yours.
“Why?” you whispered as you brushed your lips against his again, and again, until every part of you exploded in desire and passion.
Were you going to regret it? Probably yes, but in that moment you couldn't care less, you were too caught up and overwhelmed by the hurricane that was Adam Ruzek to be able to think rationally.
“Because I might do something stupid…” he breathed out, having a hard time to keep control of himself, his hands tightening their grip on you. “Fuck… You drive me crazy.”
His lips continued brushing yours, this time in such a way you felt like you were being swallowed up by a hurricane and spat out and then thrown forcefully against a truck. Only a millimeter was missing, just a single one for the kiss you were both waiting and desiring so intensely.
You were both waiting for one of you to pull back, to realize the stupid thing you were about to do but neither of you did, even though you both knew if you crossed this line there would be no turning back. You had already crossed this line, sure, but you actually didn't remember a thing from the night you ended up in his bed.
There would be no alcohol or liquor to blame this time, just your stupid minds and bodies that didn't want to be apart from each other.
However a sudden thud made you literally jump and suddenly move away from him, panic starting to take over again as you feared your time had come. Nevertheless as soon as you realized the Ferris wheel was finally unblocked and it had started to rotate again, you let out a sigh of relief.
When you finally reached the ground, you came out of that cabin at the speed of light, almost bursting into tears when you realized it was really over.
Your gaze followed Adam for a moment, who started talking and laughing with Jay and Kim as if nothing had happened, as if he hadn't been about to kiss you until a few moments before.
Your friends were talking to you and asking how you were but your mind was completely elsewhere, still stuck in the moment when you were so close to him and about to kiss.
His eyes met yours for a moment. He looked at you with such intensity that your knees almost buckled, a little smirk on his lips making your heart drop with anticipation and that was probably the first time you were able to understand his unspoken words.
Whatever happened up there wasn't over.

Adam Ruzek- Shirts
Prompts11&30 Are you wearing ____ shirt? Are you wearing last nights clothes?
Adam and I have been dating in secret now for a few months. The reason we have kept it secret is because of my dad Hank Voight, plus Adam and I are partners in intelligence. Last night I slept over at Adams place, but unfortunately I didn't have any clean clothes there so I'm having to wear what I had on yesterday and hope no one notices. Adam arrived to work 10 minutes before me
"Morning Trudy" I smile at the woman behind the desk. Trudy frowns looking at me then goes back to whatever she's doing
"Morning" she mutters. I scan myself in and walk up to intelligence. Straight away I head to the break room so I can make myself a coffee
"Are you wearing yesterdays clothes? Who's the lucky guy?" Erin, the girl that practically my sister, wiggles her eyebrows as she walks in to the break room
"What a girl can't own two of the same black jeans and black shirt?" I cross my eyebrow "and anyway maybe I'm saving on my washing" I go back to making my coffee and Erin shuts the door behind her
"I know that look, you got some last night. So spill"
"No way. I know you. I'll tell you who will tell Jay who will tell Antonio who will tell his wife who will probably say something to Trudy so by that time not only will all of 21 know but the whole of 51 and Med will know"
"Ok ok" Erin holds up her hands and leaves the break room as I pour my hot water into the coffee cup.
Once again I stay over at Adams place. We hadn't long ordered Chinese food when I hear a knock on the door
"I'll get the door" I call out as Adam is in the shower. Opening up the door I'm shocked to see Jay holding up beer cans
"What are you doing here? Are you wearing Adams shirt?" It then seems to click in his mind "it's you!"
"Shhh" I pull Jay in
"Your the one Adam is sleeping with"
"Damn it Jay. Do not tell anyone do you understand?"
"Or what?" Jay smirks making me give him daggers "0k my lips are sealed" Jay holds up his hands in the air "but it won't be long until everyone else figures it out"
"Well we've done alright for the last 3 months" I lead Jay over to the couch and sit down
"So where is lover boy?"
"He's in the shower he'll be out in a couple of minutes"
Like I said Adam walks out with his towel wrapped around his waist and rubbing his now damp hair with another towel. Looking fine as hell might I add. He stops in his tracks when we sees Jay and I having a beer in my hand
"Ah here he is"
"I thought..." he looks at me a little confused
"I was the Chinese food? Yeah sorry to disappoint. Came over to have a beer with you but was a little shocked when I say YN open the door"
"She came over to watch the game" Adam says trying to give us a cover
"That's the worst lie I've ever heard. We both know YN hates football"
"He figured it out anyway. Said he wasn't going to tell anyone"
"Hmmm. I'll get changed and join you both" I watch as Adam walks back into his bedroom. Jay gives me a nudge and wiggles his eyes. I roll mines and take a sip of my beer. Once Adam is changed he settles on the couch next to me with an arm around me and me leaning into him. Before I know it I'm asleep.
Just like before Adam arrives before me, luckily I have clean clothes because I decided to go home first to get changed. When I arrive I greet Trudy who gives me a smirk
"Have fun last night?" I frown at her
"Erm yeah?" Then it dawns on me. Jay!
I run up to intelligence
"JAY HALSTEAD!" I yell making my way up to him "you told everyone about me and Adam?"
"No, but you just did"
"Adams the guy you've been seeing!" Erin shouts
"Why are you all shouting?" dad comes out of his office clearly irritated
"Errr..."
"YN and Adam..." Jay starts saying but Erin puts her hand over his mouth to stop him any further
"YN, Adam my office. Now!" As I walk past Jay I make eye contact
"Your dead" I whisper and walk into my dads office bracing myself for what's about to come.

I Know You
Pairing: Adam Ruzek x Asian!Reader
Requested: no
Summary: No thanks to her parents' interference, Y/N finds herself having to deal with unwanted advances from an old acquaintance.
Word Count: 1.3K+
Tags/Warnings: established Adam x Reader, arranged marriage, self-indulgent fic (lol)
A/N: First try at a more specific reader background, and I almost didn't let this see the light of day but @sheetsonfire gave her beta services and told me otherwise so here it is!
ADAM RUZEK MASTERLIST
“Y/N!”
You let out an involuntary groan under your breath that only Adam could hear from where he was sitting next to you, prompting him to glance up, his eyes falling on the guy who was pushing his way through the crowd towards you.
You were literally never going to forgive your parents for inflicting this on you. Ever.
Moving to America should have stomped out ancient ideas like arranged marriages a long time ago. And yet, you’d only met Andrew again after more than ten years because they’d disguised the lunch as a catch up with old family friends, with everyone but you knowing what it really was - a matchmaking session. It was like they’d just ignored everything you said about already seeing someone.
Granted, they’d told you that the final decision was yours to make, which meant they weren’t that backward. But even after turning him down multiple times, Andrew was still dancing around you and pushing for you to give him a chance.
You turned your eyes up in a look of exasperation.
“Three times is not a charm.” You snapped, not bothering to hide the distaste in your words. “You’re basically stalking me.”
That definitely struck a chord with Adam as he got to his feet, looking Andrew straight in the eye, his body angled towards him so that he was now standing protectively in front of you, his body practically blocking you from Andrew’s line of vision.
Obviously Adam knew everything. You’d told him the moment you’d finally escaped from that hell of a lunch, and told him every time that Andrew had come looking for you. But this was the first time they were coming face to face and although you’d happily see Adam knock this asshole to his feet, you weren’t willing to let Adam get in trouble for it.
Andrew didn’t even flinch, behaving as if you’d both just offered him a polite hello.
“So is this him?” Andrew asked, looking around Adam towards you and you gritted your teeth. Wherever this was going, it wasn’t going to be pretty.
You glanced along the line of tables, noting with immense gratitude that Jay and Will were just at the next table with Kevin. Whatever was happening seemed to have just caught their attention as Jay raised an eyebrow at you. You discreetly put a finger up to tell Jay to wait and see, to which he just nodded quietly.
Adam gave you a small smile even though you’d ignored him.
“Y/N, come on. You’re a lawyer and he’s a… officer?”
You growled. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?”
Adam interrupted this time. “Walk away.”
You could hear the intense effort Adam was using not to start throwing punches.
Andrew laughed before addressing Adam. “Have you even thought about it? What kind of life you can give her? With your pitiful paycheck, the hours you spend away from her? You going to let her rough it out with you?”
Was this guy serious?
But your face angled upwards as you realized Adam was hesitating.
You reached over for his hand, quietly slipping your fingers through his.
Adam glanced back at you and you offered him a small smile, the unspoken words between you seeming to set a new resolve in his eyes as he turned back once again to Andrew.
“You can have your high position, place or whatever.”
Andrew paused for a moment but Adam wasn’t done. “I don’t know about high or low places, but my place is next to Y/N.”
You let out a proud grin, squeezing Adam’s hand encouragingly.
A look of anger passed across Andrew’s face, which was Jay and Kevin’s cue to make their presence felt.
Andrew glanced between Adam, Jay and Kevin, as well as Will who had now got to his feet as well. Deciding that it wasn’t worth the fight, Andrew glanced back. “This isn’t over.”
“Yes, it is.” You muttered, pulling Adam back down to sit.
Adam glanced at you after nodding thanks to his friends before he turned back to you.
“Adam Ruzek.”
Adam paused as you called his full name.
“Don’t you ever hesitate. Ever. I wouldn’t trade this for anything in the world.” You warned.
Adam smiled, leaning in to press a kiss to the top of your head. “Let’s go home.”
You nodded, smiling.
It was about a few weeks later when you had been out with Adam that the both of you had run into Andrew again.
Truth be told, you’d already filed him away out of your mind, sure that he’d finally given up and moved on, maybe taken his stupid ass out of America.
So you’d been a little startled when he’d showed up, standing right in your path.
You glanced at Adam before offering him an eyeroll. You were getting really tired of this.
“I am literally going to file for a restraining order.” You directed at him.
“I’ve had it. You’re coming back with me.” Andrew reached over, his hand closing around your wrist as he roughly tugged you towards him.
Your other hand still clasped tightly in Adam’s, you felt a jerk, the opposing force from Adam’s hold on you only jerking you forward a few steps.
“Let her go.” Adam’s voice was low and dangerous, and you could hear it again, the edge between Adam’s composure and him pouncing on a guy right on the street.
You turned up to look at Andrew furiously. You didn’t care if you’d been friends when you were younger, this was getting ridiculous.
But before you could open your mouth, Andrew tugged you towards him even harder.
Adam didn’t move, his grip on you still firm but with opposing forces on both your arms, you hissed. Andrew’s grip on you felt like it was cutting off your blood circulation and you were about certain one of your arms were going to pop off.
Adam glanced at you and without warning, the grip Adam had had on your hand was gone and you stumbled the remaining distance towards Andrew.
You looked back at Adam, who just looked upset.
You glared up at Andrew. “Let me go. Now.”
“Why should I? He was the one who let you go.” Andrew quipped back defensively. “You’re coming with me.”
You felt the white hot anger pulsate through you, and before you knew it, your leg had shot out, hitting him right in the shin. Andrew yelped, instinctively letting your arm go as the pain shot through him and he bent over.
“What do you think I am? A toy?” You growled, marching back towards Adam. “You need me to teach you this? Fine. The only reason Adam let go was because he realized it was hurting me. You were hurting me. You were about to tear me into half Andrew. But you don’t care, do you? You’ve been like that since we were five.”
Andrew opened his mouth to argue but no words came out.
“Adam’s not the problem here. You are. You don’t care if I’m happy, or if I’m uncomfortable. You just want what you want.” You snapped.
Adam glanced at you, taking your hand once again with a small smile. "Thank god.” He whispered.
You smiled, watching as the insecurity dropped off his face now that Adam knew you wouldn't misunderstand the gesture.
“I know you.” You whispered back.
You turned back towards Andrew now. “Try this again Andrew. I’ll get a restraining order so fast, you won’t know what hit you.”
Finally, there was defeat in Andrew’s eyes as he stepped aside.
Adam glanced down at you where you were squashed into his side as the both of you walked back down the street.
You looked up as well, meeting his eyes and Adam pressed a kiss to your temple, both of you knowing that no words needed to be exchanged.
You knew.

Anniversary
Pairing: Adam Ruzek x reader
Summary: It's Y/n and Adam's first wedding anniversary, and they want nothing more than to spend the night with the team
Requested: Yes, by anonymous
Warnings: slight swearing and hints at sex
Word Count: 1,367 Words
The smell of breakfast was what woke me up. The bedroom door was cracked open, and the delicious scent of blueberry pancakes wafted in from the kitchen. I stretched my arms above my head before climbing out of bed to see what Adam was up to. My husband was standing in front of the stove, humming to himself as he flipped the pancake that was in the pan in front of him. I made my way over to Adam and wrapped my arms around his waist, squeezing him softly.
"Good morning," I greet. "You're up awfully early."
"I wanted to bring you breakfast in bed," Adam countered. "But now you're out of bed, so I guess that idea is out the window."
"I appreciate the thought though, Adam. And you made my favorite," I notice.
"Of course I did," Adam confirmed and turned around to face me, pushing me back against the island that was right behind me. I was now trapped between Adam and the island, but I didn't mind. Adam then leaned down and pressed his lips to mine for a quick kiss. "Happy Anniverary, darling."
"Happy Anniversary," I return and pull him back down for another kiss. This one lasted longer than the last one, neither of us wanting to pull away. Suddenly, Adam slipped his hands under my thighs and lifted me up to situate me on the island. I smiled against my husband's lips, moving my own hands up to cup Adam's face. The feeling of his body pressed against my own and the way his hands grasped at my sides made me never want to pull away. But the scent of something burning hit my nostrils, and I distanced my lips from Adam's. "Adam? Do you smell that?"
"It's just the pancake cooking. Everything's good," Adam assured me as he kissed at my neck. It was then that I saw the smoke beginning to rise up from the pan on the stove, and the burning smell got even stronger.
"Adam, the pancake!" I shriek. Adam frowned, but when he turned around, he saw that the pancake in the pan was indeed burning. Quickly, he turned off the stove, and using a nearby rag, he lifted up the pan and set it in the sink, waving away the smoke.
"Okay, so this pancake is a goner," Adam admitted. "But the good news is I already made like eight, so we're all good."
"Imagine if you would've burned our apartment down on our anniversary," I joke.
"Ha ha. Very funny. That never would've happened," Adam claimed, and wrapped one arm around my waist to bring me off of the island and back to the ground. "So, what do you want to do tonight? Go out to dinner? Walk around downtown? Stay in and watch cheesy rom-coms? The choice is yours."
"What if we go out for lunch to your favorite sandwich place?" I pose. "Then we can spend some time downtown, maybe sit by the lake? And then later we can invite the team over for pizza and beers. I don't think any of them have seen the new apartment yet. That sound okay to you?"
"As long as I can get you in bed with me at the end of the night, I'm fine with that," Adam professed.
"Adam!" I laugh and smack his chest playfully.
"What? It's our anniversary," Adam defended. "If you think I'm not gonna get a little lovin' later...."
"Don't worry. You'll get plenty," I assure him. "Now come on. I'm starving. And the pancakes that you didn't burn smell amazing!"
....................................................
"I've got those," Adam spoke and grabbed the pizza boxes from the backseat of his Jeep before I could.
"Okay, then I'll get the beers," I say and head for the trunk.
"I can get those too," Adam insisted.
"Adam, you're not gonna carry the pizzas and the beers," I lecture him. "I've got it. Seriously."
"You shouldn't be doing any work on your anniversary," Adam said.
"It's your anniversary too," I remind him. "So we're gonna split the work."
"Babe!" Adam whined. "Why can't I just do one thing for you?"
"Babe, why can't I just do one thing for you?" I mock back as the two of us headed towards the apartment entrance.
Later that night, our friends shows up to the apartment one by one. Kim was the first person to arrive, which was no surprise. She was on time to everything. Then Jay and Hailey showed up, the two of them claiming they hadn't had a relaxing night off in a while. And shortly after them, Kevin came, giving me a bear hug and Adam a fist bump. So now us and all of our co-workers from Intelligence were sitting around the living room eating greasy pizza and drinking beer.
"Man, I cannot believe that you guys have been married for a year already," Kim commented.
"I know," Kevin agreed. "It feels like just yesterday Adam was having a nervous breakdown in the locker room over proposing to you."
"Hey man! It's terrifying, okay? Probably the scariest thing I've ever done in my life," Adam justified. "And until you've had to do it, I don't want to hear shit from you."
"You shouldn't have been scared though, Adam. I mean, we had been together for three years at that point, and we already lived together. I was gonna say yes no matter how or when you asked me," I tell him.
"I just remember the two of you walking into work the next morning, and just based off how the two of you were acting, I knew it had happened. I didn't even need to see the ring," Hailey claimed.
"And that was the moment I knew I had lost my best friend forever," Jay joked and took a sip of his beer.
I scoffed playfully. "Oh please, Jay. You could never lose me. I mean, sure, we haven't been partners at work in ages, but we manage to joke around every chance we get. Changing the subject, what do you guys think of the new apartment? I don't think any of you have seen it yet."
"It's amazing," Hailey remarked. "Seriously."
"And for only being here a month, you guys are all moved in. That's impressive, considering how lazy Adam is with that type of stuff," Kim pointed out.
"Hey! I am not lazy! I'm just slow to get things done," Adam corrected.
"Speaking of the new place, all of us decided to bring you guys something," Kevin announced and grabbed a bag from behind the chair he was sitting in.
"What! Guys, you didn't have to get us anything!" I exclaim and take the bag from him.
"We know, but we wanted to. Now open it," Jay instructed.
From where Adam and I were sitting together on the chair, we carefully pulled the tissue paper out of the bag. Pulling out the large item from the bag, I realized it was a frame. And inside of that frame was a picture from our wedding. Adam and I were front and center, and surrounding us were our friends and family. All of the Intelligence Unit was there, including Voight, and so was Adam's dad, Bob, and his sister and nephew. Then there was my mom and dad, plus my two brothers and niece. Intelligence was my second family, so seeing them standing alongside both me and Adam's real family was amazing.
"We know you guys have been wanting to get this picture framed for a while now but just haven't had the time, so we figured we'd get it done for you," Kim declared.
"This is awesome, guys. Thank you!" I chirp. "I can't wait to hang it up!"
"And I think I know the perfect place for it," Adam affirmed and stood up, taking the frame with him. He then walked over to the wall that the tv stand was on and held it against the large open space. "What do we think?"
"Looks perfect," Hailey piped up.
"It really does," I concur and stand up. "Adam and I really appreciate it, guys. You're all amazing. Now, who wants another beer?"

-
You approach Trudy Platt’s desk with a pep in your step, you felt like you were hitting your stride lately and being at the 21st was a good fit for you.
“Good morning, Sarge.” You offer to the desk sergeant, watching her remain engrossed in what was no doubt a mountain of paperwork that seldom grew any smaller.
Eventually, she pulls her eyes away and looks up, “Mornin’, Y/L/N. What’s got you all chipper today?” She eyes you curiously, but still with a slight smile on her face.
You play up your mood, “Oh nothing, just happy to be here, Sarge, under your tutelage.”
Even though you were hamming it up, the sentiment was indeed true. Trudy Platt was one of the most revered and respected of her generation, and you could understand why. It’s why the 21st was such a coveted placement.
She shakes her head, giving you a dubious look as she checks her list of squad cars available.
On the cusp of making a decision, Trudy spots Alvin Olinsky coming through the door with one Adam Ruzek. She leaves you waiting patiently in exchange for calling the older Detective over.
You give Olinsky a polite and distracted smile, watching briefly as Ruzek heads towards the gated stairs that lead to Intelligence’s bullpen, silently watching someone you used to be so connected with pass through like a stranger.
It irked you that he hadn’t gotten back to the messages you’d sent him since he got picked from the academy to join Intelligence; it felt like a small ‘fuck you’ from Adam - for him to just forget his classmates, to forget you.
You two had been inseparable; forging a true understanding and appreciation of how the other worked. Sometimes it felt like you were soulmates. Whether it was platonic or romantic, you’d never had the chance to figure that part out.
You sigh, glancing at Trudy’s desk to find she’s still talking to Olinsky. The conversation isn’t exactly scintillating, something about non-suit reports, so you take a glance around at the hubbub of the precinct for a distraction from your irritation.
People are coming and going every second, keeping the district ticking over and running as smoothly as Chicago would ever allow.
Passing by are Burgess and Atwater, whom you wave goodbye to as they head out for their day on patrol, they had become good friends and you really liked having them around.
As you’re about to turn your attention back to the desk, you hear the familiar voice of Adam once again. He had apparently stopped to talk to some of your fellow patrolmen, also classmates from the academy.
You watched the three men converse, the patrolmen were fascinated with Adam’s sunglasses and he appeared to be enjoying the awe his very presence seemed to inspire.
You roll your eyes, glancing at Platt and Olinsky, realising that their conversation had come to an end. Now, they were looking at you curiously. Before you can question their staring you see Olinsky divert his attention to Adam and the patrolmen, just as you had.
Tuning into the conversation not even a few metres away, Adam’s words are just about audible as he talks to the guys in uniform, “Yeah I don’t know how it is for the patrolmen here. I mean, I skipped that part.”
Olinsky looks on, his expression changing to one of a disappointed parent, and you find yourself smothering a smirk. Clearly, the senior officer wasn’t too impressed with Adam’s lack of modesty.
You gawk in amazement as Adam continues, glancing at Platt who waves you off so as to let her keep eavesdropping too.
“Yeah, put in your time boys. That’s my advice. Then maybe you too can join us upstairs, right?”
Before you know it Olinksy is on the move towards Adam and you’re giddy at the prospect of Ruzek possibly getting chewed out by his superior.
You can’t hear what Olinksy says next but suddenly the patrolmen are saying their goodbyes and Adam is being ushered in your direction, towards the sergeant’s desk.
Finally, Adam spots you and immediately avoids eye contact, having the good grace to look sheepish as he does everything he can not to acknowledge you standing there.
You internally scoff, cowardice wasn’t a good look on him and you were ready to tell him as such.
You don’t let it sour your mood too much, watching in sheer anticipation as Olinsky has a wry smile on his face, “Say, Sergeant Platt. Ruzek here needs to better appreciate the, uh, the journey, that he, uh, got to bypass.”
You wanted to cackle like a maniac, seeing how Adam looks at Platt in shock, watching your sergeant’s face turn gleeful as she responds, “Oh I’ve been waiting for this day.”
–
From there Ruzek is ushered upstairs to put on some uniform, and you decide to use that moment to try and get your keys. You were ready to get your day started, and you didn’t want to be saddled with babysitting Adam on patrol.
Yet, you fear it’s already too late when you notice your keys still haven’t materialised. Trudy was clearly slow-rolling you, waiting for something, and it didn’t take a genius to figure out what or who that was.
The look Platt gives you makes you groan, yet you’re unable to protest too much as the sergeant preemptively holds up a shushing finger.
“Don’t. Ruzek needs a partner and you’re free, and one of my best. So don’t make me change my opinion of you, alright?” Her eyebrows go up in a pointed expression, daring you to protest further. You sigh in defeat, watching Platt nod and smile satisfied with your acceptance.
You weren’t one to want to disappoint Sergeant Platt, and it didn’t really feel like you had much choice. Besides, you did know Adam and you knew he was good police, you would just have to put aside your misgivings about his attitude for the day.
-
You're standing waiting for your 'partner' when you hear the gate open again, turning to see Adam in his patrol blues.
It’s a weird sight given he never got to have this moment when you did, and your whole body fizzles with goosebumps when he catches your gaze again.
“Ruzek.” You greet him, nodding with a smile, emotions imperceptible in your eyes.
“Y/L/N.” Adam smiles, somewhat cautiously, “Good to see you.” He offers.
“And you.” You manage to squeeze the pleasantry out, your swelling wave of feelings not yet washing you out to sea, but close to it.
Your new partner gives Sergeant Platt a small salute, “Catch you later, Sarge. Do you need anything?”
“Nah, I’m all good, unless you see Portillo’s on your travels! Now go ahead, you kids have a good time serving the community.!” She says with a smug smile, all too happy to watch Adam get a taste of patrol life.
“Oh, I’m sure we will,” He answers facetiously, slinging his arm around your shoulder. With that, Trudy shoos you off, and you turn towards the door as you almost immediately start extricating yourself from Adam, walking ahead of him to the parking lot.
He takes a deep breath, knowing he had a lot of explaining to do. So he braces himself for impact, hot on your trail to the car.
-
You slot yourself into the driver’s side of the patrol car, turning on the radio immediately to check in with dispatch and update your status.
Adam climbs into the passenger side and shuts the door behind him. He desperately wants to be excited about patrol and ask you how it’s going, but there was a walk of fire that stood in his way.
He clears his throat, ready to make a speech, "Y/N, I'm-" But the very notion of him explaining his actions somehow sets you off, you'd been waiting for this moment.
"Sorry? Is that what you were going to say, Adam? Sorry that you left without a word, sorry that you blanked me when I asked if you were okay and if you needed anything? Sorry that you said nothing when I congratulated you and asked if you wanted to celebrate. Is that what you're sorry about?"
You swallow, realising that your outburst was out there now, permeating the air as your heart thundered in your chest. You didn’t realise just how upset it had made you until you were ranting in Adam’s face.
He doesn't flinch, accepting your hurt with a guilty expression.
“Yes, exactly that. I totally ghosted you, and that wasn’t fair or right… There is no good excuse or explanation, other than I got caught up in the excitement of it all, not stopping to think about the people…the person I’d left behind. And I’m sorry that you’re stuck on patrol with me today, I know it’s probably the last thing you want.”
You sigh. Actually, being on patrol with Adam was all you’d thought about at the academy, it was something that you’d ached for when you were finally given your placement but without your right-hand man to accompany you.
Not all the wrongs had been righted, but just knowing Adam felt remorse, knowing that he hadn’t suddenly changed his mind about you… you could feel the storm clouds getting lighter.
“It’s fine… You’ve got some learning to do, and lord knows you need all the help you can get, Mr Intelligence. Being stuck with you is not the worst punishment ever, so long as you’re not expecting me to fawn over those sunglasses and the fact that you work with Voight’s team.” Your mouth upturns into a smug smile as Adam goes quiet, sitting obediently as you pull out of the lot and begin your patrol route.
Adam is sincere the next time he speaks, nodding in agreement with your words. “I definitely could learn from you, Y/N, and I wouldn’t expect you to feed any kind of ego, that’s not your style.”
Your smirk, glancing at your partner, “Definitely not my style.”
There’s another pause between you, and you sigh. You didn’t have it in your heart to maintain that venom. You knew Adam wasn’t inherently selfish or careless, you and he were both young and starting out, so it was partially understandable that he’d gotten caught up in the excitement of everything. “It’s good to be riding with you, Ruze. Let’s just make the most of it, alright? I can chew you out some more and patrol at the same time.”
“Yes ma’am, that sounds like a fair compromise.” Adam smiles genuinely, and your small smile is just as genuine in return. He holds out a fist for you to bump with yours, and you roll your eyes with a shake of your head. It was unreal how easily he could melt you down from being in an icy mood.
You bump your fist with his.
-
A large portion of your morning is uneventful, between some petty theft incidents and helping CFD on some of their scenes, you and Adam decide to call it time for lunch. It certainly wasn’t the most action you’d seen on patrol, and it definitely wasn’t shaping up to be Adam’s biggest day on the job. You’d even taken to responding to several cases of helping the elderly with their shopping, much to their gratitude.
Adam shrugs off his jacket and tosses it into the back of the patrol car, “Man, it’s October in Chicago, why the hell is it still so warm.”
“The earth is not our biggest fan right now, Ruze.” You huff as the sun beat through the windshield, agreeing with the fact that even the slightest motion in your jacket caused you to overheat at the moment. You decide to join Adam and take off your windbreaker, launching it into the back as you settle into your seat.
Both of you sit in comfortable silence as you listen to the radio chatter coming in, tucking into the grilled sandwiches and shared fries you’d got from the Deli down the street, sipping happily at some iced tea. This felt like old times to you, and it settled the disquiet in your stomach from this morning’s confrontation.
You hoped that you and Adam could actually rekindle the connection you’d forged, that he wouldn’t forget you a second time.
The last bite of your sandwich is taken when the radio crackles to life once more,
“Units on the citywide, reports of a 10-67 and 10-68 at 1655 West Cortez, nearby units please respond.”
You instantly put your wrappers in the door compartment, Adam picking up the radio as you pull the squad car out of the parking spot. “Dispatch, 2113 put us as responding to that call on West Cortez”.
The dispatcher responds once again as you hit your sirens, heading to your new location, “Copy 2113, holding you down as responding.”
Adam adjusts his position in the seat, more upright and ready to prepare himself for whatever you come upon at the scene.
-
10-67 Person calling for help.
10-68 Call for police made via telephone.
-
As you pull up to the row of houses on West Cortez, you take note of the uniform build, each house virtually identical to the next, save for some outside embellishments from the residents. The house next to the responding address is for sale.
You pick up your radio as you step out of the patrol car, Adam doing the same as he looks around for any immediate signs of distress.
“2113 to dispatch, we’re a 10-97, please standby.”
“Copy 2113, standing by.”
-
10-97 Arrived at the scene.
-
As you approach the front door of 1655 West Cortez to knock and announce your office, one of the construction workers from across the street approaches.
“You here about the screaming, officers?” The older man asks.
“Screaming?” Adam asks, and the man nods.
“Richard Barnes, I’m the foreman on this job." He gestures his thumb behind him to the bustle of men working along scaffolding.
You nod for him to continue.
"I heard it a few nights ago, as I was locking up, it sounded like a big fight at 1655. I headed over there since the old gal that lives there made me and the guys coffee a few times. Sylvia is her name. She answered the door and said it was her and her granddaughter just having a little misunderstanding, I’ve seen the granddaughter a handful of times too - seemed nice enough though. Sylvia apologised for the disturbance and that was that. I didn’t have any other way to prove something was wrong, so I left her to it, teenagers can get stressed out, right? Didn’t seem too weird. Everything seemed alright beyond the arguing. This morning I could hear Sylvia yelling again, only her voice though, and now nobody is answering the door. That’s why I called it in for you guys to take a look.”
“You sure the granddaughter hasn’t left at all?” Adam queries,
“No, sir, I don’t think she has. I have security cameras for the site and equipment, she hasn’t shown up at all the last few footage cycles.”
That revelation makes you wonder. You nod at Barnes, “Thank you for calling us, you did the right thing, we’ll take a look.”
He waves your thanks away, “Of course, holler if you need anything else.”
“We will, thanks again. We might ask you to make another statement once we’re done here, alright?” Adam checks and Richard nods, “Not a problem, officers. We’re gonna be going to lunch soon, but we’ll be back this afternoon, maybe an hour or so.” He gives a small smile goodbye, heading back towards the work site and his crew.
You turn back to the property and to Adam, “Okay, let’s find out what’s up with grandma and granddaughter.”
Adam nods, picking up his radio, “2113 to dispatch, we’ve just had a 10-62A, we’re going to do a knock and talk.”
“Copy 2113, standing by.”
-
10-62A Take a report from a citizen.
-
You knock heavily on the pristine white door, glancing around the mostly empty street for signs of anybody who could give extra information. Adam takes a step back to look up at the large windows on the 1st and 2nd floors.
Nothing happens, you both wait. Moving to knock again, your voice loud and clear, “Chicago PD, anybody home? Sylvia?”
In the background, you hear the low chatter of Richard’s workmen and their various trucks starting up as they move off the site to head to lunch.
You look at Adam and he gives a knowing nod back. Calls like this could be nothing, but they also could be something, and it was always better to make sure it wasn’t the latter.
Adam knocks this time, not much louder than you had but you knew he liked to feel like he’d had a go too. With a sigh, Adam’s on the cusp of hammering on the door when you catch a faint shadow of movement on the first floor, the definition of a ‘curtain twitch’.
“Ruze, movement on the first floor.” You announce, keeping your eyes fixed on the window as Adam does try the door a third time. “CHICAGO PD, this is Officer Ruzek and Officer Y/L/N, we would just like a word.”
There’s a lingering moment, then the sound of locks and chains being undone, the door opening a crack to reveal an older woman.
“Can I help you?” The woman’s hair is greying, she is round in the face, a slight blush to her cheeks, shuffling from foot to foot in navy slippers.
“Ma’am we’re with the police department, we’ve had a report of distress being heard at this address. Is your name Sylvia?” Adam asks politely, offering a friendly smile.
If the woman doesn’t like his question she doesn’t show it, offering a small smile back. “Yes, I’m Sylvia Lupp. This is my home, and I told that nice man across the street that there was nothing to worry about, I do hope we haven’t wasted too much of your time.”
Most people would offer a more detailed explanation and some kind of reassurance, but the woman is quick to try and shut the door again, only stopped by Adam’s quick palm at the centre of the door.
The gesture is assertive but not aggressive, just enough to give Adam some extra talking time. You see the woman’s face sour for just a moment before putting back up the kindly expression.
In the motion of the door trying to shut, it had created a draft of air that carried a smell with it. It smelt simultaneously like bleach and off-meat, with a slight odour of faeces. You share a look with your partner, you already knew this wasn’t a call you’d be putting down as “nothing”. So you step forward too, letting her know that you and Adam wouldn’t be dismissed that easily.
“Uh, ma’am, please, it would really ease our minds if we could just check the house out, make sure everything’s as it should be and that both of you are okay. If it’s just a normal family dispute, then we’ll be on our way. Do you mind if we come in?”
At worst this was about to be a crime scene, at best it was going to be a severe case of hoarding and neglect of the property, you steeled your stomach for both. You rest a quick hand on Adam’s shoulder, silently conveying you had his back as the woman reluctantly stepped aside to let you in.
You start looking around at the peeling wallpaper and the damp spots on the walls and ceilings. The smell was much stronger even a metre into the house. You swallow hard, trying to not breathe in too much.
“I have been working on the house, we’ve had some…sanitary issues lately as I’m sure you can see. I don’t move as fast as I used to, but I am working on it. My granddaughter isn’t fond of contributing to the home, that was the reason for our argument.” She didn’t seem nervous, but she did seem like a car salesman trying to convince you of her pitch.
You let Adam take the lead, watching as he followed her into the first room on the ground floor. You used the time to radio dispatch as quickly and as quietly as you could manage.
“2213 to dispatch, we have entered the premises 1655 West Cortez, speaking with Sylvia Lupp. We are now investigating a 10-29h. Be on standby for a Code 8. There is concern for a 10-54 or 10-91D. Might have cause for CFD assistance.”
-
10-29h Caution - severe hazard potential.
Code 8 Request cover/backup.
10-54 Possible dead body
10-91D Animal, dead
-
A voice crackles through, “Copy, 2213, on standby for your Code 8, 10-54 and 10-91D. CFD are aware of the call.” You spot Adam and Sylvia coming out of the room again, Adam’s face tells you everything. Sylvia looks from you to the radio in your hand, turning on her heels as she beckons Adam to keep following, you make sure to stay in tow.
You were starting to worry about what you’d find beyond the stacks of yellowed and moulding newspapers, uneven piles of miscellaneous goods, the strewn cans of food, and the almost constant thrum of flies buzzing.
Eventually, you decide to broach the topic, “Sylvia, we’re not here to judge, but we are worried about your safety on the property right now, and your granddaughter’s safety.”
Her head snaps to you, looking affronted, “The house needs some love, that’s all. I wouldn’t pry into how you keep your home, officer.” Adam gives you a terse look, subtly shaking his head, encouraging Sylvia to continue the tour.
You hold your hands up by way of apology, deciding you’d try again once you’d seen more of the house. This would already constitute a hazardous environment by the city’s standards, you wouldn’t be surprised to find complaints from neighbours if you checked the city’s sanitation records.
By the time you make it to the kitchen, you can’t understand how you’ve managed to not lose your lunch all over the floor, the smell had only gotten stronger and one scent, in particular, had you covered in goosebumps.
The smell of death.
-
Sylvia stops at a door, unlocking it with a gold key she produces from the pocket of her cardigan. The door in front of you is older than the others, wooden and pale from losing its paint finish, scuffs and scratches litter the wood. She gestures to the rickety stairs dimly lit by an overhead orange glow of a lamp on its last legs. “My Luzie lives down here in the basement, spoilt girl gets her own space. She’s not home right now, out at college.”
For the umpteenth time today, you find yourself sharing a sceptical look with Adam, close to suggesting you both turn back and regroup outside.
It played on your mind that Sylvia’s granddaughter, according to Richard from across the street, should absolutely be in the home.
The older woman looked as if she was about to close the door again, but once again Adam stops the motion.
“Ma’am, we really need to inspect the entire property, if you don’t mind.”
Sylvia’s nostrils flare in what you sense is anger and frustration, but she steps aside and gestures dismissively downwards.
You let Adam go downstairs with Sylvia, keeping an eye on her from the top of the stairs, making sure you still had a view down the hall to the front door, just in case anything else or anyone else were to appear.
Then, there’s a crash and several loud thuds.
“Oh, officer, quick! He’s fallen!” Sylvia cries out, sounding frail for the first time since you met her.
Your feet carry you as fast they can down the rickety steps, coming upon the scene of Sylvia crouched over a motionless Adam. You fall to your knees on the cold concrete floor, assessing Adam quickly and methodically.
Adam was out cold but breathing. You take off your CPD gaiter to press to the wound on the side of his head, eliciting a soft groan from him.
“It’s alright, Ruze. I got you, we’ll get an ambo here.” You reassure, only receiving another moan in response. Picking up your radio, “Dispatch, 2213 in need of backup and an ambo to our last location, an officer is injured. A head wound.”
You wait, static is the only answer to your request. So you repeat it again, and again. Your stomach begins to sink with each passing moment. The basement was stopping you from calling for help, and you were stuck down there with someone you didn’t trust.
“What happened?” You ask Sylvia, noting that though she had her hand over her mouth in ‘shock’, her actual face showed no expression at all.
“I-...he just fell, I don’t know, he hit his head on the unit there.” She points to a scuffed, faded, display unit full of old china. However, as you look at the unit you can’t see any blood or any signs that it had been disturbed by the weight of Adam hitting it.
What you do notice is a golden bronze eagle statue laying a few feet across the basement floor from Adam. It was darker in spots, darker as though it had blood on it.
You couldn’t prove anything without taking a closer look, but you also couldn’t afford to let Sylvia know that you were beyond suspicious. You quickly avert your gaze, focusing on your partner once more, his eyes had half opened now.
“Hey, buddy.” You murmur, giving his arm a squeeze. “I need you to keep pressure on that wound for a sec, alright?” You ask, waiting for his confirmation of understanding.
“M’kay… Y/N, she-” He grumbles, you fix him with a look so as to stop him from talking, you figured he was about try and warn you about Sylvia, but you were already there. Instead, your partner returns to lifting a shaking hand to press to his own head with a small hiss. “Good, real good, Ruze. Just gimme a minute, I’ll be right back.”
There were too many variables. You had to make a decision. That decision was to detain Sylvia so you could leave the basement and radio for help.
You push up to full height, “Sylvia, I’m going to need you to stand-” As you turn to face Sylvia you’re cut off by the sound you knew all too well, the cocking of a gun. A gun that was now pointed at you.
Fuck, Y/L/N, you didn’t check for Adam’s weapon.
You stare at Sylvia, all your suspicions were now a reality and you were mad at yourself for not being harder on her, her age had well and truly stalled what would have been immediate caution and apprehension if it had been someone younger.
Your jaw clenches, shifting ever so slightly to stand directly in front of Adam, shielding his prone form on the floor. “Sylvia, I think you and I both know that pointing that gun at me is a big mistake. My partner is injured, and this house is now in our system and flagged, anything you try to do will only make things worse.”
Sylvia waves the gun gesturing downward, “I think you’ll do as you’re told, I’m sure you can guess by now what happens to people in my home who don’t obey the rules and give this house the love it needs. Sit down, officer, by your partner. There’s a good girl.”
You grit your teeth together, deciding you couldn’t risk trying to draw your weapon and giving Sylvia a motive to shoot. So you slowly sit on the cold floor of the basement, glaring as the old woman pushes forward, the gun never leaving the target of your head or your partner’s. Almost instantaneously the concrete makes your muscles tense and shiver, and you hear Adam’s chattering breaths on the ground beside you.
Satisfied you weren’t going to do anything, Sylvia bends awkwardly with her hip to pull your weapon out of its holster. You consider taking your chance to tackle her to the floor. You easily had muscle and speed on her, yet your surroundings did not give you ample opportunity to move or get help if something were to go wrong. You weren’t a fan of the decision, but you couldn’t risk Adam’s life like that.
You choose to instead trust that dispatch would try to check in, then they would contact Platt who would ultimately be pissed you hadn’t returned one of her patrol cars on time and come hunt you down. That, or somebody from Intelligence would notice Adam’s prolonged absence and come looking for him.
For the moment you’re resigned to watching Sylvia totter back up the creaking stairs with both weapons and the key to the door at the top.
Unsurprisingly you hear the door slam, and the clicking of a lock and bolt follow.
-
The first thing you do once you’re sure Sylvia isn’t coming back down those stairs is turn to Adam who offers you a sheepish smile, still pressing the gaiter firmly to his wound.
You sigh, checking him over as he chuckles with a pained wince, you couldn’t believe how calm he was - maybe he had several brain cells knocked loose.“Seriously, I’ve got us trapped down here and you’re giving me those doe eyes?”
Adams frowns, “Last I checked it was that old gal that got us locked in here. She saw me bending down for this…” Adam fishes in his trousers pocket, producing a gold chain with a pendant attached. “That’s how she got the drop on me.”
Your eyes widen at the revelation, the pendant was marked with an engraved “L”, it seemed a given that the L would stand for “Luzie”, Sylvia’s granddaughter.
You’re about to open your mouth again, but Adam knows what you’re about to ask, “I guess in the excitement of holding officers at gunpoint she forgot why she knocked my peanut loose in the first place.”
Frustration leaves you, kicking the dirt beneath your feet, “I should have been less patient with her, I should have knocked her on her ass. I shouldn’t have let you go down here alone with her.”
Adam scoots closer to you as best he can without letting go of his head, you reach out a hand to steady him, helping him lean against the wall. “Listen to me, you stayed up there where you should have to make sure nobody was coming in or out without our notice, you didn’t hand her that eagle, and you couldn’t have known she’d be so brazen… She already had me before you were even down the stairs, Y/N, so I don’t wanna hear anymore about it being your fault. Alright?”
There’s a pause as the realisation sinks in for Adam, feeling sorry for himself for getting caught off-guard, watching with some amusement as he groans again, “Man, she really got me good.”
You squeeze your arm around him gently, “I think she would have found a way no matter what, Ruze, don’t take it to heart, alright? How’re you feeling?”
“Like I got whacked in the head.” Adam retorts, meeting your unimpressed face he relents with an apologetic look, he knew you were worried for him.
“Sorry, it smarts but nothin’ I can’t handle.” The warmth of Adam’s hand on your arm makes your stomach flip, his reassuring hold burns through your shirt sleeve before he lets go again.
You try not to draw attention to your surprise at the contact, pushing yourself up to stand. “Well, for as long as you’re able to make your smart comments, I’m gonna see if there’s a way to get our radios to reach out of this godforsaken basement, or a way for me to go and get us help. Stay put.”
Adam wants to laugh at your lack of a request but rather an order, except laughing would hurt his brain, so he settles for a wry smile. “Yes, officer.” He quips, tickled by the roll of your eyes as you turn to start checking the walls of the basement for a window or alternate access point.
-
Adam’s starting to really feel the chill of the basement as he watches you move boxes and old bits of furniture away from the walls, he studies you with a pained expression, wishing he would stop feeling so dizzy so he could get up and help too.
“You okay over there?” Adam asks, trying to shimmy on his ass to not let his back and shoulders go to sleep, his butt already well past numb from the cold of the concrete.
You sigh, trying to not be annoyed by his concern, it was sweet and you know it was hard for him to keep still, “For the 4th time, I am absolutely fine, Ruze.”
He sighs, “Right.” Simmering in his own soup of thoughts until he feels compelled to open his mouth some more, “Y/N, I’m really sorry for everything, you know that right? I got so caught up with Intelligence, then I felt like I’d abandoned you, I didn’t know what to do with that, more time passed, and it just became this whole awkward thing.”
You stop your rummaging and periodical checking of your radio, something you were also surprised that Sylvia had forgotten to take - then again, people didn’t always consider everything when they were acting in a moment of rash behaviour.
With hands on your hips, you face your partner with an incredulous expression, “Adam, I have been trying to talk to you about this for weeks, and being trapped in a basement is the time you choose to circle back to it?”
Adam shrugs, “No time like the present, figured before we freeze or starve to death, I’d let you know that I know I’ve been a jerk.”
You pinch the bridge of your nose, searching for the calm to not whack Adam yourself. “Please, pretty please can you just save for this for when we’re out? We’re not going to starve or freeze down here… God, even when you’re hurt you still find a way to be a little shit.”
Adam does smile now, gesturing nonchalantly with his free hand, “It’s why you love me, Y/N. Let’s not pretend it doesn’t charm you.”
You sigh, “Oh yeah, I love you because it’s really fun when you make things more difficult.”
Adam snorts, ignoring the stab of pain in his skull, “Ah, so you do love me then, didn’t deny that bit.”
The statement goes without an answer in return, falling back into ‘comfortable’ silence as you resume your hopeful task of finding something that will get you and Adam out of this. Finally settling at a tall storage unit, one that was somehow producing a particularly cold draught from behind it.
You brush your fingers behind the heavy mahogany, feeling the cold bite at your fingertips your heart picks up the pace. It certainly felt like something was concealed by the display unit, an open space to be precise.
“Adam, I think there’s something behind here.” You say it almost to yourself, afraid to declare it to the room should it lead nowhere.
“You need me to…?” Adam gestures in your direction, already trying to get to his feet with a slight grunt of surprise at just how unsteady he was.
“Will you please sit back down before you fall?” You chastise, taking quick strides to slip your arms around Adam and put him back on the ground.
“I know you want to help, but the best thing you can do is stay here and let me just worry about one thing at a time, alright?” Your voice loses its irritation, face softening as you can see the frustration on Adam’s face. Granted your irritation was because you were worried about him but you didn’t need to give him the attitude.
Your partner lets out a slight huff, “Okay, Y/N, yeah, I can do that. Sorry.”
“Don’t be sorry, man. I know it’s not a great situation, I’d be pissed off too.”
Adam hums in acknowledgement, letting you wander back toward the display unit. It takes you a second to get your stance right, putting your weight into the side of the heavy wood as you push. Your boots crunch bits of concrete and gravel underfoot as you force the unit to one side with a noise of upheaval, revealing a blue door, metallic and rusting - the stench of death was stronger now.

𝐍𝐨 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐓𝐨 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞
*Gif not mine credits to the owner*
• Pairing: Adam Ruzek x Fem!Reader.
• Requested by @rsquared31: She and Adam are either still in the stages of flirting or early on in a new relationship together. Something happens to her and Adam rushes to get to her, but then internally struggles between going after the attacker or running directly to her - not wanting the asshole to get away, wanting to tackle him and make him pay for daring to hurt her, but also wanting to see if she was ok and be the one to help her. She’s taken to the hospital, where the injury was bad enough for her to be out/unconscious for a while? Adam stays with her and refuses to leave. He makes some admissions when she wakes up.
• Warnings: mention of blood, injury, drug, throwing up, tiny bit of swearing.
• Word count: 4456.
• A/N: this is the first time writing for someone who isn’t Jay and I’m so nervous 😭 it’s ugly as fuck but are we even surprised? I hope you like it anyway. please let me know what do you think and feel free to give me any advice or send me ideas for new stories! Likes, comments and reblogs are highly appreciated ❤️ thank you so much for the amazing support you showed me and for encouraging me to challenge myself and write for other characters, I love you all xx
“Good morning darling,” a voice caught your attention.
You were in the break room pouring some coffee – which you already knew would be awful – into your cup. Before you even turned around a smile appeared on your lips, having recognized who that voice belonged to. You would’ve recognized it among another million people.
You turned your face to a smiling and impossibly handsome Adam who didn't even try to hide the cheeky way his eyes studied every inch of your body.
“Good morning to you handsome,” you returned his greeting trying not to stammer and blush in front of his intense and provocative gaze. But you couldn't hide the way your heart whirled in your chest, almost skipping a beat, or the way every cell in your body woke up from the excitement.
Excitement of what? He hadn't done anything but look at you and you were already a complete mess.
The power this man had over you.
“Indeed it's a really good morning,” he replied, hands in his pockets as his eyes looked you up and down your body without shame and restraint, stopping on your ass. His tongue wet his lips as he tried to suppress the ever-growing urge to get his hands anywhere on your body.
He confidently walked over you, your cheeks burning as he leaned against the edge of the kitchen right next to you. The way he looked at you, his head tilted slightly to the side, a winky smile on his lips, his light-brown eyes looking up at you so intently they seemed to want to read into you. God, you'd drop everything and get down on your knees.
“You know Adam, I'm not just a piece of meat,” you pretended to be offended, as if it really didn’t flatter you to know he was attracted to you, as if you didn’t crave his eyes on you every minute, every second of the day. You took a sip of your coffee, trying to mask your disgust.
Adam chuckled. “It's not my fault, I can't help it if you're so beautiful,” he replied flirtatiously exploding every ounce of self-control you possessed, “This is for me isn't it?” he pointed the coffee.
He smiled as he noticed the blush on your cheeks and the way you tried to hide it. God, that was one of the things he most loved about you. How could you be so beautiful? So hot and sexy but so cute at the same time?
Adam stopped trying to explain to himself what he felt about you long time ago, the way you drove him crazy, the way he was always thinking about you, continuously, always, constantly.
“Oh yeah it's all yours,” you said, handing him the cup of coffee without hesitation. His fingers brushed yours as you did so and a shiver ran down your spine, giving you goosebumps. You tried to stop yourself from giggling like a little schoolgirl, not wanting to show him the effect he had on you.
But he knew it all right, because that was exactly what happened to him.
“And by the way, you're not so bad either, Ruzek,” you looked him up and down and this simple sentence was enough for Adam to lose his head and feel his dick twitch in his pants.
Adam took a deep breath, looking at the ceiling for a moment as if trying to regain control of himself. “Y/N, Y/N…” he murmured your name like a prayer before returning his eyes to you. “What am I going to do with you?”.
“What are you talking about? What did I do?”, you asked in a dumb tone. He didn't answer you, but kept looking at you, studying every millimeter of your beautiful face, feeling his hands tingle from trying to repress the desire to touch you. The sexual tension between you two was so high it could fuel the entire city of Chicago, the air so tense anyone within miles would notice the way you looked at each other, how you were drawn to each other like magnets.
He set the cup of now-cold coffee in the sink before caressing your face, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear. You stopped breathing for a second as your subconscious kept hoping he'd kiss you until he took your breath away.
“Make me lose my goddamn mind.”
Oh God.
“I'm not doing anything,” you whispered, your eyes always fixed on his so lively and brilliant eyes. They were so bright, so full of life and joy that just looking at them was able to calm you when everything seemed to fall apart.
His eyes kept alternating between your eyes and lips. His mind raced as he tried to think of all the reasons why he shouldn't press his lips to yours, but right now he could only think of a thousand reasons why he should do it instead.
“We shouldn't be that close,” you muttered, your voice so low, not convinced by your own words. “I know, we shouldn't,” he whispered back but remaining in that position. His thumb caressed your cheeks softly, his touch so light and delicate that made you forget everything around you, “But I can't help it.”
A sudden noise immediately pulled you away from each other and you prayed with every fiber of your being it wasn't Voight.
“Finished playing lovebirds?” Kevin's amused voice broke that magical moment between you and Adam.
“Oh… Uhm… H-he was pulling an eyelash out of my eye,” you blurted out the first excuse that crossed your mind, ignoring Kevin's gaze. Adam was trying to suppress the smile that threatened to come across his lips as you stuttered embarrassedly. He had to resist the urge to pull you to him and hug you.
“Sure like you weren’t about to tear your clothes off,” Kevin laughed back.
“I… I have to go to the bathroom…” you stammered and then started walking away from the break room to finally be able to breathe.
“Not so fast honey, we have a new case, I came here to call you guys.”
Adam tried to suppress the annoyance that just hearing Kevin call you 'honey' gave him.
Fuck's sake get a grip.
How had he gotten to the point he even felt jealous of his friend calling you ‘honey’?
You and Adam had always had this kind of relationship, ever since you started working in the Intelligence. From the first moment there had been a feeling between you, a feeling you had few times in your life and that brought you closer to the point every occasion was good for you two to flirt and tease each other.
But over time, your relationship deepened and soon what was a simple flirting became something more, from both of you. Neither of you came forward with the fear of rejection from the other and that's how you ended up in this state of limbo, in which you both desired each other from afar, in which every time you found yourself close the tension skyrocketed.
You didn’t say anything, exited the break room at light speed while Adam obviously followed you with his gaze, watching you carefully. When you were out of sight of him, he glanced at Kevin who laughed at the sudden change of his facial expression. He had gone from a beaten and hopelessly in love puppy to a furious hyena.
“Thank you so much Kev,” he nudged him lightly.
“Hey! What did I do? I just came to call you, we happen to be at work in case you forgot. I know you are so madly in love with each other and bla bla bla but I want to remind you we are in the district, in our unit, with Voight.”
Adam rolled his eyes. “I'm not in love and… Fuck’s sake just mind your business.”
Now that was a good lie, he was very much in love with you, and a lot too.
“So you don't mind if I ask her out do you?” Kevin asked with mock seriousness just to test his friend’s patience and from the way he looked at him as if he was ready to knock him down, he knew he had managed to do it.
“Say it one more time and I'll punch you in the fucking face,” Adam said and for some strange reason Kevin figured he was serious.
He laughed and threw his hands up in surrender. “I was just joking man, I would never do it.”
The case concerned a large exchange of drugs that would’ve been made that same day and which an Antonio’s informant had told him about. With the whole team, you opted for a silent flash attack, in order to surprise the traffickers in the middle of the exchange and arrest them all.
You were all armed with shotguns and bulletproof vests and once you arrived at the place where the drug trade was about to take place, you split up as agreed: Kim went with Antonio and Voight, Jay with Hailey and finally you with Adam.
“Hey, be careful okay?” Adam had whispered in your ear just before entering. You turned to him and smiled. “Be careful too,” you replied.
The building where the drug trade would take place was abandoned and from the dust and the amount of junk it had been in disuse for many years. It was the perfect place for a drug trade, it was spacious, disused, isolated, no one would ever suspect the illegal activities that took place there.
After the team split up, you and Adam headed into the back entrance of the massive building, stepping in silently and fingers close to the trigger ready to fire whenever necessary. The traffickers worked on kilos of drugs and judging by the quantity present, it must’ve been worth a lot of money.
Your heart was pounding, so hard you could almost hear it in your ears. It didn't matter how many missions like these you had done, how many drug exchange attempts you had thwarted, the anxiety in those moments of suspense would always be present.
That was the perfect time to intervene, those men never expected the police to be there. You waited for Voight's signal from the headset transceiver connected to your ear, at which point you all exclaimed.
“Chicago PD! Everyone down and hands up!”
At that point chaos ensued.
The men wasted no time and immediately started to shoot, beginning a firefight that forced all of you to hide. You and Adam hid behind a wrecked car, firing your rifles. The sound of gunfire echoed in that establishment, bullet shells flew here and there on the dirty and dusty floor, and those traffickers had no intention of giving up. You hated to admit it, but they were giving you a hard time.
After unloading a full loader, you sat down to protect yourself and put a new one into the rifle. Adam glanced at you with the corner of his eyes before returning his gaze in front of him and firing a few shots and then bending down to shelter from the shots.
“Holy shit,” he cursed and you couldn't help but agree with him. It was a horrible situation.
You peeked out with your head and shot a trafficker who was about to shoot in your direction at the same time, whose body fell lifeless to the ground.
As you were about to take cover at that very moment your gaze fell causally next to Adam and with horror you noticed a weapon aimed at him, a man ready to shoot him.
“Adam! Get down!” you screamed and instinct prevailed. Before he could even figure out what was happening, you lunged at him, pushing him to the ground and shooting the man at the same time but not before he too fired a few shots as he fell to the ground.
Time stopped for an instant and everything went in slow motion. You didn't immediately understand what happened only when a throbbing pain went through your abdomen. You didn't immediately realize you'd been hit by a bullet.
Adam lifted himself off the ground only then realizing you were lying on the floor.
“Y/N!” he exclaimed in horror feeling his heart nearly stop in his chest. He knelt down next to you. “It's okay, it's okay baby, you’re gonna be okay.”
Out of the corner of your eye you noticed the criminal you shoot get up and run away.
“Fuck,” you hissed in pain “Adam he is running away…”
“Like hell I'm leaving you alone,” he urged, pulling off your bulletproof vest and heaving a sigh of relief when he saw the bullet had been stopped by the vest. You pushed his hand away, trying to breathe deeply. “Adam go! I am fine just go!” you exclaimed aloud, making your pain increase.
Adam found himself conflicted, for the first time in his life unable to decide what to do. He didn't want to leave you alone, not when you were suffering like that and unable to defend yourself, but at the same time he wanted to take that son of a bitch, not because he was a criminal, but for daring to hurt you.
“Baby, it’s okay, I'm fine I promise,” you continued, patting his hand encouragingly noting his hesitation. “Go.”
Adam reluctantly got up and started chasing after the criminal – who wounded, didn't run very far – not before alerting your teammates you had been hit and were on the ground unprotected while he was doing the chase.
“Chicago PD! Stop!” yelled Adam as he ran after the man. He tried to increase his pace but the bullet that had hit him had weakened him a lot since, unlike you, there was no bulletproof vest to protect him.
It wasn't long before Adam caught up with the criminal. He threw himself on him causing him to crash to the ground and before he could even defend himself, Adam had punched him in the face.
Then another one.
And one more time.
He was blinded by rage, the image of you lying on the ground in pain as you struggled to breathe etched perfectly into his memory with every punch he landed.
“Son of a bitch!” he yelled in his face as another punch collided with the smuggler's face.
“Adam! Stop for fuck's sake or you'll kill him!” Jay exclaimed, running towards him and pushing Adam away from the man lying on the ground almost unconscious.
“Let me go!” Adam tried to escape from Jay's grip as he pushed him away from the man before breaking free and running to you, showing no remorse for beating the criminal.
He found you in the same spot, this time leaning against the car while Hailey was next to you. During the firefight almost all of the traffickers were killed, while some were handcuffed and arrested.
“It's okay, help is on the way,” she tried to reassure you even though the only person you needed was Adam. “Take small breaths, everything will be fine.”
“Y/N! Hey, hey, I'm here,” you breathed a sigh of relief if it wasn't so painful. She immediately knelt beside you, cupping her face in her hands, her heart in a vise as she saw you in so much pain.
“You'll be fine okay? Everything will be fine. How are you feeling?”.
“It hurts like hell,” you cursed. Damn it, you almost forgot how much it hurt a bullet hit.
Hailey at that moment said she’d walk away to help the others, leaving you and Adam alone.
“I know, I know it hurts, baby I'm so sorry” he stroked your face “Can I take a look?”.
You nodded and, trying to be as delicate as possible, he lifted your shirt, almost blanching when he saw the extent of the damage and the huge bruise caused by the bullet.
“It's that bad huh?”.
Adam had to swallow the lump in his throat, the guilt wearing him down because he knew that bullet was meant for him. God, he would’ve taken ten bullets rather than see you suffer even one second of your life. He hated seeing you like that, he hated not protecting you, he hated you took that bullet instead of him.
“I'm so sorry sweetheart…”
“Is this a way of saying 'thank you for saving my life'?” you tried to joke but the serious and destroyed expression on Adam's face suggested he wasn't in mood for jokes.
“It was meant for me, it should’ve been me,” he sighed and you took his hand with yours, stroking the back of it.
“It’s not your fault, I’d do it again thousand times.”
At that moment the paramedics arrived and after many oppositions you had yourself examined, under the inquiring gaze of Adam who never left your side.
Once you arrived at Med's it was Will who visited you. “How much does it hurt from one to ten?”.
“Four,” you answered but flinced when he gently patted your abdomen.
“Y/N.” he admonished you.
“Fine, shit,” you hissed in pain “Eleven.”
“Why are you cops so stubborn? I swear, you're all the same, always thinking you're superheroes.”
“I just want to go home Will, please give me a couple of painkillers and let me go,” you begged.
You began to feel dizzy and a wave of nausea washed over you as the pain gradually became more and more intense and unbearable.
“You're not going anywhere miss,” Will stated “Judging by the abdominal distension I'd say there's internal bleeding but I'll do an ultrasound just to make sure.”
“Will...” you muttered feeling the need to vomit “I have to... I have to throw-...” you couldn't finish the sentence you lifted up slightly and started throwing up, but the nurse present was quick enough to take a basin nearby and place it in front of you.
“It's definitely internal bleeding,” Will said after doing the abdominal ultrasound.
Your vision started to get blurry and your heart pounding so fast, you felt like it was about to stop.
“I can't... I can't breathe...”
Adam – who meanwhile was in the waiting room – had almost dug a trail in the floor due to his continuous back and forth, feeling anxious like never before.
He hated waiting, having to sit there with folded hands and not being able to do anything to help you while you were in the operating room and Rhodes was operating on you to contain the internal bleeding. The guilt was wearing him down even though rationally he knew it wasn't his fault.
He felt guilty because he had always promised himself he’d protect you from everything and everyone, he’d kill rather than risk someone hurting you, he felt guilty because he was the one who was supposed to be on the operating table.
The moment you threw yourself at him to protect him kept playing in his mind over and over again, like a videotape playing over and over again. Why had you risked your life like that to protect him?
He couldn't blame you, God he would’ve done the exact same thing, but he couldn't help but be mad at you for doing such a stupid thing. Why did you do it?
-
The surgery lasted about an hour and when you woke up the first thing – or rather person – your eyes rested on was Adam, whose arm was around your waist, his head resting on your belly as he embraced you, his eyes closed.
He wasn't really sleeping, in fact as he felt your fingers in his hair, he jerked up, his eyes widening when he saw you were finally awake.
“Y/N, baby, oh my god thank god you're awake,” he gushed, leaning down and hugging you. “I missed you so much, thank God you're okay.”
You smiled, returning that hug with all the strength you had in your body. “I missed you too.”
“How are you? Are you okay now? Does it hurt?” he peppered you with questions once you broke away from the hug. He sat back on the chair again, but entwined his fingers with yours, never letting go. Your heart almost exploded as he brought your hand to his lips leaving a small kiss on the back.
“I feel a little numb but overall I'm fine,” you replied. “Were you always here?”.
“Of course, I’d never leave you alone baby.”
It must’ve been the stun caused by the surgery but only then you noticed the scratches and small lesions on Adam's knuckles.
“My god Adam, what happened to your hands?”.
“Oh baby you realized it a little too late,” Adam chuckled.
“Adam.”
He shrugged nonchalantly. “I may have landed a few punches.”
“Adam!” you exclaimed raising your voice, a painful expression appeared on your face.
“Hey, hey, take it easy,” he spoke concerned “Y/N…” he sighed, “That son of a bitch hurt you, I… I completely lost control.
“Adam, you could get yourself into serious trouble.”
“Honestly? I don't give a fuck. If anything happened to you he wouldn't have to worry about just some punches.”
“Always acting like a macho huh?” You tried not to smile even though his protective side was one of the things you loved most about him.
“Don't even joke Y/N. When it comes to you I lose my mind,” he softly spoke “When I saw you lying on the ground, I feared for a second I lost you and I don’t want to feel like that ever again.”
You let go of his hand only to rest it on his cheek, gently stroking his cheeks and beard. “If something happened to you I would never have forgiven myself. Really Adam… When I saw that guy pointing the gun at you… I didn't understand anything anymore, I didn't want something to happen to you.”
“What you did is very stupid,” he scolded, his eyes watering as he leaned against your touch and you chuckled.
“You would’ve done the same.”
“Absolutely”
“So why shouldn't I?”.
“Because I need you Y/N, I can't think of being without you.”
This little confession cut the breath out of your lungs and the way he looked at you, God, it was so intense you could hardly maintain eye contact but something had bewitched you. There were so many things you wanted to tell him though, so many things you wanted to confess but your brain had shut down and not a single coherent, rational thought crossed your mind.
“Baby…” Adam whispered and that simple word sent a flock of butterflies into your stomach. “I can’t take this anymore…”
“W-what?”.
“Now I’m looking at you and… And you're so fucking beautiful even though you're on a goddamn bed and wearing a hospital gown and you… You’re looking at me like that… You make me lose my mind,” he blathered, not even knowing if whether or not what he was saying made sense but god he couldn't even think straight anymore, he felt so out of control and that was the effect you had on him. It didn't matter how or why, but you were capable of sending every single neuron of his brain into a tailspin, you were capable of giving him tachycardia when you even just looked at him, you were capable of making him forget the whole world.
“How am I looking at you?” you whispered.
“And when you play dumb like that, like you don't even know the effect you have on me, how you drive me crazy,” he went on “How you made me fall so madly in love with you.”
You widened your eyes and your mouth in shock, hardly believing what you had just heard.
You were speechless.
Completely speechless, and it was a rather rare occurrence.
You had dreamed of that moment for so long, you almost couldn't believe it. For a moment you even thought you were still under the influence of anesthesia and everything was happening was just a figment of your imagination.
“I'm sorry to say it like that, I know it must’ve been unexpected for you but after what happened today… I didn't want to waste any more time, life is so short and… Fuck… I know I probably screwed it all…-” he began talking again noticing your silence but you stopped him by placing your index finger on his lips.
“Kiss Me.”
Adam nearly had a heart attack, for a moment fearing he needed a hospital bed. Did he hear it right? Or was it just a hallucination?
You were about to speak again when he leaned towards you, pressing his lips against yours in a longed-for and much-desired kiss.
His hands cupped your face as he completely took your breath away. His lips were warm and soft against yours, just as you had imagined so many times. Your fingers were in his hair and it didn't take long because everything else disappeared, making you forget you were in a hospital room.
You bit his lip and he almost moaned at that sensation, this gesture further increasing the visceral need and desire he felt for you.
“Fuck don't do that again,” he murmured against your lips, finding it hard to control and stop himself. You didn't answer instead you kissed him again. You were so bewitched by Adam and as his scent flooded your nostrils, a thousand butterflies danced in your stomach.
All the pain you felt went in the background, only he existed at that moment, only his lips that continued to devour you in an intense kiss. Your head was spinning, your heart was pounding, your hands tingling, shivers ran down your spine.
“Stop, stop, Jesus Christ, we have to stop or I won’t control myself,” he whispered, pulling away from the kiss for a moment as both of your chests rose and fell as you caught your breath. “You drive me so damn crazy baby, I don't know what to do with you.”
Your eyes were fixed on his even if they alternated on his little swollen lips, red from the kiss. You were overwhelmed by the feeling you had for that man and you knew in that precise moment that a new chapter in your life had just opened, a chapter you couldn't wait to live. Your nose continued to slightly touch his, your lips brushing his, your thumbs stroking his cheeks.
“I'm so madly in love with you too Adam Ruzek,” were the first words you said after the kiss and just for the way he looked at you, you’d take hundred of those bullet and relieve the pain all over again, to see the expression of pure joy and the smile on his beautiful face.
