#just watched the anime and needed to ramble

There’s something about how the lightness and darkness was framed in The Girl From the Other Side.

First how the colours feel muted but Shiva, the little girl is portrayed in all white and the Teacher, who’s a curse of sorts is black, making them stand out. But it seems to go deeper than the visuals of the protagonists.

There’s the cursed creatures of the outside who are “dark” But then there’s the teacher who’s supposedly one of the monsters who curse. But he finds Shiva and decides to help and protect her. He supposedly lost his humanity but stil has it in him to help the girl he found.

Then there’s Shiva and how she’s not scared of the teacher and trusts him to teach her things even though they’re supposed to be from separate worlds. But there’s her dreams ans how she seems to be stuck in a darkness, a fear of being alone…

Just watching Shiva and the teacher’s interactions of seemingly mundane things and how they’re bonding as the journey and learn together is so sweet. But there’s something a little harrowing in how the story is told/shown…

Something about how the two are shown visually to be light/dark, but their internal goals and struggles seem to convey differently. How they’re interlocked and connected to both light and dark in their own ways.

And the soldiers in the beginning, seeming to have killed anyone who they think has become cursed.

Then “mother”… who is mother? Who are the cursed creatures, what are they after? But if they’re cursed, why does she sing a melody that seemingly guides(?) teacher to stay by Shiva?

It’s so shrouded in mystery but the way the story shows light being in the teacher, and there’s darkness in the people. The way they’re interconnected feels so raw and has this gentle allure. Maybe about how light and dark can’t exist without each other… maybe also something about embracing both for connections?

I’m not really sure, but it was so raw and something about the allure of the mystery and the underlying tone of the story made it really captivating while leaving an ache behind.

can i just say. and this is probably a niche hill to die on. that i am so gobsmacked every time someone vaguely hints at the idea that jotaro doesn't care meaningfully for the other crusaders, usually particularly kakyoin and joseph, when those two actually tend to be the ones he reacts to being hurt the hardest

like he cares for his loved ones!!!! that literally plays into his character motives in every single part he shows up in!!! stop lying to me!!!!!!!

actually shout out to the croods 1 for female character design im so serious. i can't speak on the sequel cause i haven't seen it but women with broad shoulders women with frizzy wild hair women with crooked teeth women covered in dirt women who can throw boulders and are loud and violence-prone and short-tempered. women who are feral and not in the quirky way but like actually allowed to be offputting. the scene where eep wolfs down a turkey leg bigger than her entire body in like 4 seconds was revolutionary to me idc

The urge to watch W*A*L*T*E*R and rewrite it so that Radar becomes a Zoo Keeper instead of a cop. I've read the plot summary of the pilot and a review and I have thoughts.

My hatred for cops aside, I just physically cant see him being a police officer?? Hes too big hearted and soft.

Let him be a clerk for a zoo while hes studying to be a proper keeper. You can keep the part about him not being able to be a farmer cause he cant bring himself to sell the animals that's fine. Let him be a zoo keeper!! Please please please he'd love it I'm sure!

Me when the anime has the average protagonist and the popular love interest, the beach episode, the holiday episode, the school trip, the summer festival, sports carnival, swimming episode, eccentric best friends, the one character who's english VA is in another anime and that's all you can hear them as, the dramatic/traumatic backstory, the sibling/parent rivalry, and the fandom isn't problematic and doesn't argue about "characters interfering with ships".

So I saw on MyFigureCollection that October 13 was maybe possibly Yusaku's birthday, although I couldn't find any reliable source for this. I'd have loved to do something nice and light-hearted for the occasion, but I'm still feeling too strongly about it all. So here you are instead: Happy (maybe) Birthday, Yusaku! Please have some trauma to go with your trauma. Here's to another year of fending off expectations and looking for your own life and its non-answers with eyes wide open and always filled with hope.

the school arc to me is so good because it drags ciel out of his position as a powerful figure and literally places him in the shoes of the person he could have been. the circus arc ALSO drags him out of his position as big bad queens watch dog/head of the phantomhive estate but the school arc feels like a mockery of a future that never was. this is what he could have been had his parents not died. and even then its NOT because he will never be that kid.
