my favorite dumb personal headcanon is that finn tidestrider and specifically the elder triton have beef. none of the elders like him very much-- he's one of the most intelligent and widely recognized/respected names in the entire undersea, and he:

isn't religious in any way, shape, or form (alongside the rest of his family)

never married, but had a son later in life, that many people believe was the result of some kind of affair (of course, nothing was ever PROVEN)

had a blatant disregard for not only societal norms, but all the supposed "dangers" life outside of the capital had-- and frequently poked holes in their logic, especially in regards to the oversea

AND finn and his bastard son are the grandfather and father of the fucking chosen one. because of course they are. so yeah. the elders don't like him. but finn and the elder triton, for whatever fucking reason, have BEEF. why? no one knows. they hate finn's autistic swag.

I think Gillion struggles with food, a lot. He wasn’t fed properly in the undersea because they wanted to keep him “peak training weight” and he often snuck bits of that food to pretzel. He’s adapted to eating very little, but he crashes really hard.

It’s not always an intentional choice he makes, somethinges he just forgets that he’s allowed to take food from the pantry on the Albatross and he’ll go full training days without eating any snacks and in the middle of a sparring round turn too fast and hit the deck knees first, world spinning, violently nauseous and it just didn’t occur to him that skipping dinner and breakfast would have consequences on his body :(

I just learned what a kelpie was today thanks to someone in a discord server I’m in sharing art of one, and then I remembered when he used that grass electricity trick thing in the Onawa country arc, and when bebo asked how he knew that he said “raising kelpies” and then I started thinking and you all know something is gonna happen when I think

also in retrospect it makes the whole gillion curse arc like a bazillion times worse. because the entire time he denied there was a problem, acting as if nothing was wrong until he physically couldnt hide it anymore, which is bad enough by itself, but this tells us why. that it was a learned behaviour. he didnt want to worry anyone because it had been drilled into him that being sick wasnt something that should happen. that it was a weakness, one that he shouldnt have. he was supposed to be better than this.

so he pretended he was okay.

thinking about the undersea again. can't wait for gillion "don't practice what you preach" tidestrider to see the elders again ESPECIALLY after being factory reset in the navy stronghold. can't wait for chip and jay, who KNOW what they did to him to some extent, to bring up everything he's told them (about being good enough for yourself, about standing up to authority figures, about doing what YOU think is right) only for him to keep making excuses for the elders. to keep defending them when they really, truly do not deserve it. can't wait for jay and chip to finally see him acting like the soldier the elders raised in full. to see him stonefaced and rigid, always at attention, hesitant to speak to the elders unless spoken to. to look in his eyes when the elders address him, and seeing only fear. can't wait fo-- *gets shot*
