I’m not done with the Kallus headcanons because he is my blorbo and I will make shit up about him if I want to
He’s an only child. While he wasn’t an accident, per se, his existence made his parents realise that actually they weren’t that into having children after all, and they never got any more.
After they parted ways when graduating the Royal Imperial Academy, he occasionally visited Jovan when he was on Garel for a job. These were short, uncomfortable visits.
He hides it well, but he’s a bit of a control freak. If he can’t oversee a situation, he gets panicked. With the Empire this rarely happened, because with his rank and capabilities he was often the one in command, and if not, he knew exactly what the command structure was and what protocols would be followed. When he joins the much more free and chaotic Rebellion, however, this becomes much more of a struggle for him.
Though born and raised there, he has no real affection for Coruscant, and wouldn’t care in the slightest if he would never return there.
He loves rain; loves hearing it slam against the windows of wherever he is staying now, loves standing outside and letting it fall on his face. Realising that most people around him hate rain, he has never shared this feeling with anyone and hardly ever acts on it either, contenting himself with soldiering on through rainy missions when most of his squad is groaning about it.
He is fluent in multiple languages (and proficient in a lot more). Because he is self-taught, learning from datapads or occasionally droids, he tends to have a rather thick accent, but his grammar and vocabulary are always flawless.
This is actually very unusual for an Imperial; in general everybody was expected to speak Basic, and they’d leave the lesser languages to translator droids. Knowing very well that droids can be unreliable — they can be tampered with, or simply malfunction —, preferring to stay in control himself, and having seen the effect not needing to rely on translation has on people (citizens tend to trust people who speak their own language more easily, and he has read up enough on Thrawn to have found out about his peculiar connection to his translator Eli Vanto) Kallus opted to ignore convention on this.
In the midst of the chaos of the Rebellion, sometimes he finds himself missing the Empire — at least things were organised and understandable there. He is terrified to admit this to anyone, afraid to have it be seen as wavering loyalty.
Much though he pretends otherwise, from the moment he joined the Rebellion the highlight of his day has been whenever Zeb visits him. Zeb always knows when he’s spiralling again, and how to pull him out of it. He’s the only person with whom Kallus feels truly safe, which is a completely alien feeling to him.

Talked to Cookie today. Wanted to find out how he got the potatoes.
He said the locals discovered he was actually a fantastic chef when he could get his hands on the right ingredients, so they made a deal with him: He helps cater community events and, in exchange, Jovan and a few other local farmers will donate a portion of their crops to the Academy every season.
Amazing.
I am STOKED for next week. Cookie says we'll be getting REAL WHEAT to make FLOUR. And you know what that means:
🎶 No sawdust in the bread rolls 🎶

Headcanon: if Jovan and Kallus were lovers in the past, Jovan used to call him “Kal-ico” (like calico cat) because of the different color bruises and hickies he’d leave on him.

I think sometimes people forget just how old Alexsandr Kallus is.
Star Wars Rebels: The Visual Guide, which came out during season one, refers to him as “late 30s.” Season one of Rebels is set 5 BBY; if Kallus is 36-39 then, that puts his birthdate at 41-44 BBY, and makes him about a decade older than Kanan.
The Republic fell in 19 BBY. Kallus would have been 22-25 years old. The Clone Wars started in 22 BBY. Kallus would have been 19-23 years old. Academy service starts at age 16. Unless Kallus was a very late bloomer, it is extremely likely his recruitment and training happened not under the Empire but under the Republic.
I know Wookieepedia says “Kallus attended the Royal Imperial Academy on Coruscant, the main campus of the new regime's military training program,” but its source for that is the comic “Kallus’s Hunt,” and I have the comic right here and it never says that. Kallus talks a lot in the comic about what it means to serve the Empire and Imperial justice, but when he’s discussing his backstory with Jovan, it’s “We arrived on Coruscant and graduated from the main academy at the same time.”
Not “the Royal Imperial Academy”; “the main academy.” We know from the High Republic books that there has been an academy on Coruscant since at least the High Republic era. There is no particular reason to believe from this comic that the academy was under Imperial control at the time Kallus attended it, and in fact his backstory with Jovan (they were friends at the academy, then had a philosophical difference later in life about what it meant to serve the Empire) makes a lot more sense if the “serving the Empire” part comes after their time at the academy together.
The other time Kallus references his academy days is in “Through Imperial Eyes,” when he asks Yularen if he remembers him “from the academy,” and Yularen says “Of course… I keep tabs on all my star pupils.” Again: “the academy.” Not “the Imperial Academy.” And we know from Clone Wars that Yularen’s career starts as a Republic Navy officer; why assume he was teaching Kallus under the Empire? Given how busy Yularen was in the early days of the Empire, it makes a lot more sense if his time teaching at the academy predates the Clone Wars. You know: back when Kallus was the right age to be at the academy.
Tl;dr: like Yularen and Tarkin, Kallus is probably a former Republic officer who stayed to become an Imperial officer after the change of regime. His intensely pro-Imperial feelings in early Rebels don't come from being indoctrinated from childhood; they come from having served under both the Republic and the Empire and concluding (or convincing himself) that the Empire is better. And I find that much more interesting as character backstory.

Aayla Secura: Radiant Beacon of Galactic Hope by Jade Gretz
The jungle of Jovan Prime was alive with the buzzing of insects, the distant calls of strange creatures, and the rhythmic hum of a planet untamed. Beneath the massive trees that towered high above, casting deep shadows over the land, Aayla Secura moved silently, her keen senses heightened by the Force. The cool blue of her skin contrasted with the emerald-green leaves around her, blending in only by the sheer stealth she practiced. Her lekku twitched slightly as she felt a disturbance ripple through the air, a faint flicker of the dark side that made her hand instinctively tighten around her lightsaber hilt.
Beside her, two other Jedi, Masters Plo Koon and Kit Fisto, advanced cautiously. They, too, sensed the encroaching danger. Jovan Prime was a remote world, far from the galactic core and hidden from most star maps. It had once been peaceful, a planet of mystery and beauty, its vast forests filled with ancient ruins that whispered of long-lost civilizations. But now, it had become a key target for the Separatists, who sought to claim its resources for their war efforts.
"Do you feel that?" Kit Fisto asked quietly, his large, black eyes scanning the dense undergrowth. His normally upbeat demeanor was now grim, knowing the situation they faced was far from the ordinary battlefields of the Clone Wars.
Aayla nodded, her voice barely a whisper. "The darkness here is growing. I can feel it moving, like a predator stalking its prey."
Plo Koon, with his deep, mechanical voice, added, "This is no ordinary invasion. Something far worse is at play here. We must be cautious."
The Jedi had received a distress signal from a scouting team, sent to investigate strange anomalies near the planet's core. The signal had been cut short, a single chilling transmission replaying in Aayla’s mind: "They… they aren’t just droids… they’re… something else… "
They had landed in the midst of a Separatist invasion, but the army they expected to face—the typical droid battalions and tanks—were nowhere to be seen. Instead, there were signs of something more insidious. Somethi …(see the rest of the story at deviantart.com/jadegretzAI). TOP 10 FILMS OF 2022
In a year full of huge blockbusters, record-breaking indies and a sequel for just about every movie ever made, here are my top 10 films of 2022.
“Aftersun” (dir. Charlotte Wells): An incredibly personal, poignant and heartbreaking directorial debut with performances for the ages from Frankie Corio and Paul Mescal. Following a father and daughter on holiday, the film’s editing and sound design also stand out in this 96 minute emotional masterwork. I’d type more but I’d start crying. Seriously.
“Babylon” (dir. Damien Chazelle): A three hour spectacle of filmmaking and the perils of transitioning through one’s career as the environment around you shifts uncontrollably. Chazelle goes back to his “Whiplash” roots, with tension dialed up to 10 for most of the film, especially the final hour. Diego Calva leads the film perfectly, Margot Robbie gives one of the best performances of the year, and the entire supporting cast (especially Jovan Adepo) are phenomenal. Brilliant crafts and one of my favorite endings in recent memory. Definitely worth the big-screen experience.
“The Banshees of Inisherin” (dir. Martin McDonough): The perfect encapsulation of the deterioration of a friendship that should not go to the levels it does. The entire cast is superb, with all four stars (Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Kerry Condon, and Barry Keoghan) deserving of awards recognition and will likely be huge threats in their respective acting categories. It’s a gorgeous film that is absolutely hilarious and heartbreaking at the same time, with a thesis that leaves you questioning everything but also never once lets you pick sides in the central battle. And it only gets better and funnier on each rewatch.
“EO” (dir. Jerry Skolimowski): One of the most immersive cinematic experiences I have ever had. The film, Poland’s submission for Best International Feature, places you directly in the eyes of a donkey named EO as he ventures across Europe and the many types of people and perils the world requires you to face, should you be brave enough to venture outside into them. Despite never saying a word, the film uses its breathtaking cinematography and sensory-inducing editing to allow you to understand everything EO does on an incredibly emotional level unlike anything I have ever witnessed.
“Everything Everywhere All at Once” (dirs. Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert): The best and most original film I’ve seen in years. I’ve spoken so much about my absolute love for this film. I saw it 8 times in theaters in 2022, including one screening in IMAX at the TCL Chinese Theatre (which was life-altering). The multiverse masterpiece follows Michelle Yeoh playing a woman who just wants to do her taxes, but finds herself trapped in an inter-dimensional war that affects her current universe all too much. Stephanie Hsu and Ke Huy Quan deserve Oscars for the heart and soul they are able to bring to the film, and Yeoh is my pick for Best Actress, brilliantly balancing every version of her character within a film that changes genres so quickly and dramatically. A brilliant feat of filmmaking.
“Living” (dir. Oliver Hermanus): Based on the 1952 Akira Kurosawa film “Ikiru”, “Living” centers on a man (Bill Nighy) who is coming to terms with his impending death and understanding what it means to be alive and live. Nighy is brilliant and leads the film with impeccably perfect acting, and the film ponders and allows for many questions about life. It’s simply beautiful and never goes where you think, despite being given a road map at the start of the film. If I left the film with anything, it’s that what we choose to do with the time we have matters.
“Marcel the Shell with Shoes On” (dir. Dean Fleischer-Camp): A feature length film based on the YouTube short films, Fleischer-Camp returns to the world of Marcel with star Jenny Slate back as the voice of the a tiny shell you will instantly fall in love with. It’s a stop-motion animation marvel that is able to beautifully combine genres together and never once feels like the bit is going on too long. You’ll want to stay with Marcel for a very long time, and he, once you see the film, will stay with you.
“Nope” (dir. Jordan Peele): Yep. Peele leads Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Steven Yeun and Brandon Perea, among others, in this beautifully complex and terrifying thriller that never once goes where you think it will. Peele gives all the puzzle pieces to us in the first watch, but repeated viewings continue to make the puzzle more complete. With some of the best crafts and scenes of the year, especially the score, “Nope” proves that Jordan Peele isn’t running out of brilliant ideas anytime soon.
“TÁR” (dir. Todd Field): Cate Blanchette is terrifying and brilliant as Lydia Tár, a conductor preparing for one of the biggest career achievements of her life while also dealing with the consequences of her previous actions. The film asks some incredibly difficult questions and, even with a daunting 158 minute runtime, doesn’t leave anything unanswered. The film at times feels like a horror film, and is incredibly tense and filled with flashes and visions of the past. Repeated viewings will reward with hidden ghosts and a greater understanding of Todd Field’s vision as a writer and Blanchette’s performance, both of which cannot be praised highly enough and will be huge and deserved contenders during awards season.
“Women Talking” (dir. Sarah Polley): The ensemble of the year, the film follows a group of Mennonite women who are discussing the best course of action to take after an incredibly dark discovery. Polley bakes in the questions of what it means to have a voice and how it can be silenced without realization. The entire cast is absolutely astounding (Claire Foy, in particular, gives a stellar performance), and the score and cinematography are simply stunning. It’s a film that asks hard questions and deals with even harder subject matters, but still remains hopeful even in the darkest of moments.
Score: “정훈희” (Jeong Hun Hi or Jeong Hoon-hee) (안개(Fog) 1967)” from “Decision to Leave” (dir. Park Chan-wook)

I Care About You/Cared For
Come Back Home
Heart Of A Rebel
Yessss thank you, here we go!
I Care About You / Cared For
Set quite soon in my Kalluzeb series (according to the current chronology there are only two parts in between this and the last one I published), this story features Zeb falling ill and Kallus, noticing his absence, looking him up and looking after him. It has two titles because it's gonna be two parts: I started it from Kallus's perspective but then found myself figuring out Zeb's so often that I ended up mapping that into a full companion story as well.
I don't have any of the prose written yet, so here is a snippet of the scripts of each:
Tumblr media
.

Come Back Home
A little further down the line, this takes place shortly after the events of A New Hope and has Kallus decide to re-infiltrate the Empire as Fulcrum because he was most useful to the Rebellion like that. He does well, shooting through the ranks of the Imperial military and in the meantime securing amazing feats for the Rebellion, but he finds out that he isn't as Imperial as he thought anymore, the way the Empire works deeply sickening him.
Once again here is part of the script for lack of actual prose:
Tumblr media
Heart Of A Rebel
This is my Kallus prequel, detailing his life from when he was sent to the Republic Children's Military Academy at the age of four up to his adventure on Bahryn with Zeb that changed everything. The first chapter of this, set in the time of the Republic, is already published, but I have three more mapped out, about his time at the Imperial Academy and mission to Onderon, the mission to Lasan, and his work at the ISB.
Here's a snippet from the second chapter:

And that's them!

Considered tempting the Force adepts to start a food fight today. Just to test a theory.
But I had to abort the mission.
Cookie made these things called HASH BROWNS. And I have no idea how he did it, but he managed to get some REAL POTATOES from Farmer Jovan. They were AMAZING.
I was NOT about to let a single one of those beautiful lumps of shredded and fried goodness go to waste. I was busy stuffing my face with them. And when my face got too full, they went in my pockets for later.
I'mma go hug Cookie as soon as I stop crying.

She thinks she is something on a stick when she would not see me, I don’t see her, and I have no inspiration, just to see her and have inspiration. So, some woman is watching me wondering why I don’t have anything to talk about.. just for me to see her and now I can display. They, she, people like her, take the time to pay attention to me and let me know about it, but concerning this garden that isn’t for me.. I am to keep troubleshooting and consider that guy I can get along with. As I have that which is fit for royal courts, there are idiots who want me to say, “stupid niggers” just to not personify a sandy foundation that is supported by ragtime/coon songs. I’m not doing that, instead I am going to personify myself and see a black man I want to talk to - and set the standard. I don’t want to talk if he is going to be “Jovan” the porn star. I am against that! It’s fun at first, until you pop a pill and a bitch with no arm, like she is a casualty in the civil war, is sucking your dick!

Welcome Home
Notes: All of Kallus’s family members are OCs. This is inspired by a few of my headcanons. Fixed some typos.
Alexsandr Kallus was fully aware of the glare the CMO of Yavin 4′s base was giving him, he had been on the receiving end of that judging glare on numerous occasions since he was a mere child of six standard years trying to assist one of his mother’s handmaidens in feeding a stubborn eight-month-old infant.
“I see you stopped dying your hair, Dmitri.” Alex says in a rather raspy voice which started the younger man who’s glare was replaced by a wary look. It had been roughly a decade since they had actually had a....peaceful interaction like this; it had been six years since Alex had attempted to arrest the man for treachery and conspiracy, which resulted in Alex ending up in a trench with Dmitri telling him that he knew his brother was still alive, just buried under the monster that had take over.
“Well, I doubt anybody gives a damn nowadays about me having dark hair like Grandfather instead of light like Mother’s or Father’s.” Dmitri responds with a slight smirk as he ran a hand back through the dark brown locks. “Oh! And I haven’t told Dad you’re here so you’ll just have to deal with me. Family wise, that is.”.
“Iakov will likely try to kill me.”.
“Please, you’re confusing Dad for Silas. They may look alike, but Dad actually has a soul.” Alex shuddered at the name of their elder brother, who had retired from his career as a pilot and went into a career in the Imperial Intelligence after the Clone Wars. He was not a forgiving man and far more ruthless then Alex. “Lasan was what caused Dad to switch sides. I say we surprise him.”.
“Why exactly are you acting like this?” Alex asks warily which caused Dmitri to shrug as he finished his work.
“Because you’re not Silas, you’re not a monster. Agent Kallus is.” Dmitri points out thoughtfully as his honey-colored eyes met Alex’s amber brown, a gentle smile formed as the younger man reached over to bop his nose. “Plus, I have an oath after all.”.
“You kicked my arse last time we saw each other.” Alex points as he smirked at his baby brother who simply raised an eyebrow.
“Oh, so it’s my fault that you went off the deep end and you underestimated me?  Remember what Dad used to tell us: Never underestimate the enemy, the moment you do is the moment you lose.”  Dmitri counters as he walked over to a desk to retrieve a datapad then walked towards the door, pausing to turn and look at him. “I’ll let your boyfriend know you’re recovering alright.”.
“Garazeb is not my boyfriend.” Alex says in a rather defensive tone which caused his younger brother to stare at him in shock. Legitimate shock as he backtracked to stand in front of the bed.
“I was referring to Jovan.” Dmitri points out as he stared at Alex. “You and a Lasat....Wow. I...Well, you defiantly inherited Dad’s masochistic tendencies. .”.
“Shut up.”.
Dmitri just continued to stare at him. “But....”.
“Shut up.”.
“You....” And there was the awkward baby brother that Alex recalled, it had been Dmitri and their elder sister Narineh who had always known about Alex’s preferences for men over women. A well-kept secret in trio, since such information could have ruined Mother’s reputation and career.
“Don’t you have a report to file?”.Alex asks irritably, which resulted in his brother to look at the datapad then up at him before smirking and running out. Well, he knew where that was heading. What had he unleashed on Zeb?
Dmitri suddenly reappeared. “Oh! Welcome home!” And he was gone again.
Dmitri may be older now, but he still that hyperactive brat he’s always been.
